I saw the stars

I saw the stars from whence you came Beyond the lines of rule and frame Where roams the soul in freedom's flight, Delivered from each wrong, or right, That lauds or smites a human name.

Beyond the anger, fear, and shame, That choke a rising, reaching flame; Homebound, where all is stripped to light, I saw the stars.

In our eternal lover's game, You stripped my soul bare, all the same, And urged my flame to reignite; That one recurring darling night That man nor deity could claim, I saw the stars.
