Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Criminal Minds. All credit goes to their respective owners. If there are any warnings that exceed the normal death/kills from the show, I will list them.

"One need not be a chamber to be haunted, one need not to be a house. The brain has corridors surpassing material place." - Emily Dickinson
Spencer isn't used to not being able to do things on his own so helping him get ready for work is a challenge.
"Will you stay still?" you say and grab his pants.
"I can do it. Give it to me."
"Spencer Walter Reid. Stop moving and let me help you."
He freezes at the mention of his middle name. No one knows it but you, apparently.
"How did you...?"
"I've seen your driver's license. Now sit down and give me your leg."
Spencer sits on the edge of the bed and stretches his bad leg out to you so you can pull his pants on. It's been a month of recovering from both Hotch and Spencer. This is going to be his first day back since getting out of the hospital, and you're not sure how this is gonna go. It could either go horribly wrong and he'll need to take more time off or he'll be back on his feet. Emily wanted to pick Hotch up and drive him to the airport even though he'd been cleared to drive on his own.
With no unit chief in the office, you have a few minutes to yourself so you and Spencer head to Penelope's office to hang with her until Hotch comes in. Spencer hobbles into her office and she pulls up a chair for him.
"Thank you."
"Does it hurt?"
"It really only hurts when I think about it, which is pretty much all the time."
You place your hands on his shoulders from behind and massage his muscles gently.
"Don't worry, I've been very good at distracting him." Penelope laughs as Spencer looks at you with a smile on his face. You lean down and kiss him Spiderman-style. It's becoming one of your favorite positions to kiss him. When you pull away, you rake your fingers through his hair. "When are you gonna let me braid your hair?"
"Never," he says playfully and pushes you off him. Penelope has a box of cookies on the table, and he reaches to grab one but she slaps his hand away and slaps the lid on it. "Hey!"
"These are for Hotch," she says and puts a bucket of lollipops on top of them.
"I get shot in the leg and I don't get any cookies? You know he's gonna hate the attention," Spencer says and grabs a lollipop.
"It's cookies, not cake."
"He's probably gonna pretend like nothing happened," you state.
"Well, it doesn't mean we have to."
"I think maybe we should."
"I don't roll that way."
"I've been thinking about the entire time I've known Hotch, I don't think I've ever seen him blink," Spencer says.
"I know. It's weird."
"It's classic alpha male behavior."
"Do you think he stared down Foyet?" Penelope asks fearfully.
"Yes. I saw it. He didn't go down without a fight, that's for sure."
"Do you think he stared the whole time, like with each stab?"
"Yes."
"Is he okay?"
"I wouldn't be, but I'm a blinker," Spencer says, and you kiss the top of his head.
The door opens and JJ walks in with files in her hands.
"Spence, Y/N, there you two are. Grab your go bag."
"What's going on?"
"Turn on the news."
Penelope turns on one of the news channels that's talking about the most recent crime your team is going to investigate.
"Just after eight this morning, forty-year-old Darrin Call, a lifelong resident of Louisville, assaulted customers at the pharmacy on the corner of Main and Truxton Avenue. Eyewitnesses saw him walking east on Main Street minutes after the attack. He has not been seen since then. He was wearing a blue shirt, jeans, and a light-gray jacket. Within the hour, the Governor has called in all sources for a manhunt. Despite these statewide efforts, the suspect has eluded law enforcement. The body count is rising. Three are confirmed dead including an armed bank guard whose gun was used in the attack. Another two remain in critical condition. The assailant is still out there. We are going back to Eric Jennings who's been talking to residents of Louisville residents."
"We're going to Louisville."
"Alright. Bye, Pen."
You get up and escort Spencer out of her office over to his desk. You grab both yours and his bag since he can't carry his own and use his crutches, and you two head out with the team to the airplane. Spencer takes the couch to rest his leg while you take one of the chairs surrounding the small table.
"Our point person in Louisville is Lieutenant Kevin Mitchell," JJ says.
Just then, Hotch and Emily walk onto the plane, and you immediately feel anger coming off Hotch in waves. He has a stoic look on his face like always but the anger is stewing deep down inside him. It's a calm anger and it's all for Foyet.
"Good morning," Hotch greets.
"You look well, sir," Penelope says over video chat.
"Thank you. How long do you have that?" Hotch asks Spencer about his crutches.
"I'm not really sure. Welcome back."
"Thanks. Any other attacks?"
"No, not yet. Call's proven hard to track. He's never had a driver's license, so he's most likely still on foot or public transportation."
"No, he's not gonna take the bus. His face is everywhere," you shake your head.
"Has anyone found a stressor?"
"He just lost his job," Penelope explains. "He's worked at a factory since 1990 making appliances and not a single promotion."
"That's a long time to be bitter."
"Yeah, he's of the hermit variety. As far as I can tell, he's got no one. No wife, no kids, and no parents."
"Nothing to live for. Why hasn't he killed himself yet? Sprees usually end in suicide. If he's got nothing to live for, why hasn't he ended it?"
"He's not finished yet," Spencer answers Hotch. "We know he has displaced anger. He took it out on the first victim."
"The stock boy represents someone. We need to know who. Is he military?"
"No."
"He's lashing out for a reason. This guy's got anger, endless targets, and a gun. He's just getting started."
When the plane lands, you go off with Derek and Hotch to the crime scene at the pharmacy while Spencer and JJ head to the police station to get set up. Lieutenant Kevin Mitchell is waiting for them as soon as they walk in, and he's eager to get started. Before your team landed in Louisville, he created checkpoints on the state's lines at both the I-64 and I-65 and within a twenty-mile radius downtown. They think he's still on foot.
Take into consideration the average walking speed of two and a half miles per hour, and it's been just under three hours, then that adds up to an approximate eight-mile radius. First responders started a hard-target search of businesses and residences within that eight miles, and you're going to join them.
The lieutenant dug up all he could on Darrin Call but didn't find much. Me and Rossi are at his apartment so they might be able to find something the police couldn't. The strategy in all of this is to determine where he's headed next in order to stop him. Most spree killers are outwardly aggressive, and Darrin isn't that. He's defensive even if the video doesn't immediately show it.
You watch the video of Darrin over and over again until you see it. Darrin isn't aggressive until someone touches him. That's what set him off. It happens before he stabs someone. He hates being touched which is a trigger for him.
He never meant to hurt these people, and he never went in there with a weapon. JJ is working with the media to inform them as soon as she possibly can. Darrin's apartment is a five-minute walking distance from the pharmacy but there is no sign at his apartment that he came back to wash off the blood, which means he's still bloody and walking around town like that.
Penelope says he doesn't have any family, so where is he going to go looking like that? He might be messy in the head and in his everyday life, but his apartment is really neat or maybe he's military or hospitalized which means he has the same routine every day.
However, today is different. He killed three people. Why did it change?
The energy left at the pharmacy is astounding. The energy is breaking off into different streams as if it's panicking. Darrin isn't right in the head and he is definitely going to hurt himself sooner rather than later. He's going to piss off the wrong person and get hurt.
"Hotch, he's losing his mind. His mind is tearing itself into pieces. This energy is being pulled apart." Hotch stares straight ahead without giving you any indication that he heard you. "Hotch, did you hear me?"
"Yeah," he nods and walks off.
Hotch isn't okay. Who would be after what he went through?
"Mr. Call was always so quiet. He's been coming here for years," a woman talking to Derek says.
She is the pharmacist responsible for giving out medications to people.
"Has he ever had a run-in with the stock boy?"
"I can't see why he would. John was new here. I waved him over. I didn't know what else to do. No one else was helping."
"He didn't turn violent until you gave him his prescription?" you ask.
"It wasn't his. It was somebody else's. I just wanted him to calm down."
"JJ's press conference is in five minutes," Hotch says when he joins the group.
"Hotch, we might have something else here. Why didn't you give him his own medication?" Derek asks the woman.
"He didn't have any refills left."
"For what?"
"Alprazolam, but he used to be on Thiothixene."
"He was on an antipsychotic?" Hotch asks.
"That's why I wanted him to calm down. He's been off his medications for about a month now."
"When were you gonna tell us this? He's armed and delusional. Who's his doctor?" Hotch asks angrily.
"I don't remember. My computer..."
You turn to see her computer had been damaged in the fight.
"Great," Hotch scoffs and walks off.
"I'm sorry."
You and Derek look at each other because Hotch is completely out of line for this.
"He's not listening to us. I've seen this kind of behavior before. He's not going to want to listen. Not until he catches Foyet." You two walk over to Hotch. "Hotch."
"Call JJ and tell her about the meds."
"This is not her fault and you know it."
"Morgan, he's in a psychotic break. It changes everything."
"Do you want to talk about this?"
"No! I want to find him!" Hotch sighs in frustration and pulls out his phone to call Penelope. "Garcia, he's been off his antipsychotic for a month. What else did you miss?"
"I'm sorry, sir. I didn't get his medical records yet, so--"
"Find them. Find everything."
"Yes, sir."

HOW TO FAKE IT 2
part i.
summary: when jack and yours management team come together to create a perfect pr relationship you and jack must do your best to keep it as professional as possible... but when you have to spend a year together the lines between real and fake can become a little blurry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
STAGE TWO:  A Little Bit Of Water
It had been maybe three weeks since your trip to Louisville with Jack, where you got to spend some time with his family and friends. You were glad everyone in his circle loved him and that he trusted them because for the entirety of the time that you were with him there beside the random fan picture there was really nothing else that tied the two of you together.
But now it was game time, because the two of you were back to the real world.
“And you're wearing Tommy?” You asked wrapping your arms around Jack as the two of you walked into the hotel the both of you were staying at, noticing all the lingering people who were not subtle with their secret picture taking.
He nodded, looking down at you stealing a sip from your Starbucks. “Mm that’s too sweet Y/N.”
You shrugged, “I like it sweet.”
“I know you do.” He winked at you, making you laugh.
“I’ll drink some Phocus next time.”
“Okay actual question, do you actually like it?” Jack asks you as he presses up for the elevator.
You’re silent for a moment before you shake your head earning a dramatic look from him. “It’s not that it’s not good, it's just that I don't like energy drinks.”
“Oh but you’ll drink a twelve pack of coke in like a day?”
You frowned, “Leave my caffeine addiction alone.”
The elevator opened up letting the two of you walk in and just as it was about to close for the two of you another person walked in pressing another floor. You politely smiled at the person.
It was quiet before the lady turned to the both of you before smiling again, “Do you mind if I get a picture with you? I mean my daughter would kill me if I didn't. She loves your latest EP, what's it called, Honeymoon Avenue?”
You smile, nodding your head excitedly. “Of course baby, can you take the picture?” You ask Jack.
He nods, “I got y'all with a good picture.”
Jack gently takes the phone from the lady’s hand taking as many pictures of you two, smiling, hugging and laughing. You even record a video for her daughter who you learned is named Jasmine.
The two of you say goodbye as she gets off on her floor leaving you two alone for a minute longer before getting off on your floor.
“You’re so kind and gentle with all of them, you put me to shame.” Jack smiles at you as you enter the two bedroom suite the two of you are sharing to get ready.
“I try to be as kind as I can be, I know what it’s like to be awkward and stuff and just say things at the wrong time.” I laugh, “I was homeschooled so…”
“That makes sense.” Jack laughs along.
You push him gently, “Jerk.”
Jack pulls you into him on the small couch, shaking his head. “I’m just messing with you sunshine.”
You can’t help but notice all the freckles on Jack’s face as he speaks closely to you and you feel woozy at how blue his eyes are and you can see all the crinkles near his eyes. You stand up fast almost falling over, “Hair and makeup is here I have to take a shower.”
Jack gives you a confusing look before nodding. “Okay, I’ll let them in when they knock. Neelam and Iris should be here any minute anyways.”
You can’t even respond to him, all you can do is throw a thumbs up and shut the door behind you.
“Oh fuck no, this can’t be happening.” You mumble.
Jack actually has no idea what just happened and can’t even think too much about it because a whole glam team is entering the room as soon as you shut the door behind you.
You and Jack ride separately to the VMA’s since he has to be there earlier since he’s performing and presenting. You’re excited to see him bring out Fergie.
You get out of the car and are immediately led to the carpet where fans are lined up behind barriers and cameras flashed every second. You waved at the loud crowd to your left, immediately backing up to take pictures.
“Y/N, I knew you were going to be here!” A girl screams and you laugh.
“You look so good!”
“I love you all so much!” You practically scream giving as many people as you can hugs, and taking selfies.
“Where’s the new music girl? And tour?”
You bring your index fingers to your lips, “Patience is key!”
You pose for several pictures before being led to a few people for short interviews.
“Hello gorgeous, you look stunning.” A random interview compliments you as you walk up to them.
“Thank you, you look absolutely gorgeous as well.”
“Your outfit is seriously so simple but stunning, very classic.”
You nod, “I had to take some inspo from Mimi, the queen, her VMA look from 1997 has always been etched into my brain so I had to pull that inspiration from her.”
“Well you are pulling it off. What about music should we be looking out for that?”
You shrug, “Maybeeeee.”
You move on getting mostly the same questions.
“And Jack Harlow?”
You know that they want you to slip up but you just give them a cheeky grin, “He’s performing today isn't he? I like his song First Class, so I’m excited to hear that.”
You’re getting escorted away before she can even respond to you.
“Good?” You ask Iris.
“Just enough.” She winks back leading you to your seat that’s right next to Jack who’s opening up the show.
Right before it’s about to begin though Neelma rushes through pulling you up, whispering something in Iris’ ear and before you know it you’re being dragged away backstage to fake airplane set.
“First Class set, makes sense.” You giggle as you walk up to Jack who's getting mic’d up.
You see everyone else, random models who are seat filling and several celebrities.
Fuck it, let’s put on a show.
You place a soft kiss on his lips, “Kill it baby.”
Jack looks taken back for a second before pulling you back onto him and placing another kiss on your lips, “Two times for good luck.”
They lead you to your seat right across from Becky G and when you know he can’t see you touch your lips a bit.
“You two are so cute.” You hear the familiar voice of Becky G, “You both compliment each other really well.”
You smile shyly, “Thank you.”
Just as you thought the performance is a hit and goes ever so smoothly except for when you can’t keep a straight face as Jack wraps his famous pineapple juice line to you.
And when he wins his award your heart soars with pride and you’re the loudest in the room.
“I have the most amazing support system, and the sunshine in my life right now is very bright… Thank you.”
You know the cameras are on you but the smile on your face is not for them.

Cowboytober Day 12- Blowjob
Paring: Agent Whiskey x Female Reader
Word counting: 1.8k
Rating: 18+
Warning: Semi-public sex (most precisely on Jack's office), hair pulling, SoftDom!Jack (nothing new under the light of the sun), cum swallowing.
Masterlist
A/N: I've wrote a good part of this listening to "That's what I like" by Bruno Mars, so it can be a good soundtrack during the reading. For geographical purposes, I've considered the Statesman's office being in the place where is the MetLife Building, once it's the building they used in the movie.
Part two: Cowboytober Day 18
Tumblr media
Jack hated to be in New York. He was aware that it was necessary and inevitable in his position as Statesman’s CEO, but if he had the chance to schedule the meeting in Louisville or do it remotely, he would. Everything was a better option than NYC, but, at least, since you two got married he could take you with him, forgetting about all of his problems when he remembered that at the end of the day, he would have you in his arms. And you didn’t disapprove of that. Even with Jack spending all his day on Statesman, you could go anywhere you wanted while having his credit card as your company or you could just relax all day on that 1394 square feet condo on the Rose Hill Building, which conveniently was just a twenty-minute walk away from Statesman; it wasn’t for no reason, Jack refused to spent hours on the traffic just to attend a meeting, if he couldn’t escape from New York, at least he would have the best of it.
When you got out of the bath, you checked the clock and noticed that it wouldn’t be long until Jack was back home. Once you were dressed, you decided to go meet him, you used to do this a lot, sometimes meeting him halfway or getting out of Statesman. After leaving the building, you followed through Park Avenue, walking the most calmly it was possible at that hour in Manhattan.
Safe to say that you find pretty odd the fact that you were already entering the Statesman building and hadn’t seen Jack yet; there was no chance that you two could have mismatched on the way, he never walked home through Madison Ave exactly because he knew you never used that street to go to meet him. When you spoke with the sympathetic lady in the reception, she confirmed that Jack was still in his office.
After a reasonable time on the elevator, you were finally on the 39th floor. You walked calmly through the corridor, greeting a few people you knew on your way, till you finally stopped in front of the right door, unable to hold back a smile while looking at the golden nameplate with the writing “Jack Daniels Chief Executive Officer”. You knocked on the door, opening it after hearing his warm voice on the other side telling you to get in, and at the moment you entered his office, you already knew that he wasn’t on a very pleasant day; a crease between his eyebrows, his tie loosened, his Stetson lying on top of the desk, and his hair slightly ruffled due to the number of times Jack had passed his hand on it.
You closed the door and calmly approached his desk, waiting silently for him to move his attention off his paperwork. When he looked up, he was expecting to see someone from the marketing team bringing something for him to give the final approval, or his secretary bringing another problem for him to solve, but when Jack saw you, his first reaction was to smile widely, already forgetting all the stress he had been through.
“I wasn’t expecting to see you here, sugar.” His smile was still pretty noticeable.
“Well, I was planning to meet you halfway home, to be honest.” You answered with a soft tone, smiling a bit. Jack frowned slightly and checked his watch, just then realizing the hours.
“I didn’t see the time passing.” He leaned back on his chair and looked at you “But c’mere.” He said while tapping his thigh. You promptly walked around his desk and sat sideways on his lap, resting your hands on his shoulders.
“Let me guess, my cowboy is having a hard day.” You said while starting to softly massage his shoulders, making him let out a heavy sigh while leaning forward to rest his face against your breasts.
“You ain’t kidding, I don’t remember the last time I had such an awful day.” Jack passed his arms around your waist, keeping his face buried against you.
“Think about the good part, it’ll get a bit better when you get home.” Your hands remained on his shoulders.
“I don’t think there’s anything that could make this day better.” He answered softly and your mind immediately started to work.
“I’ll have to disagree with you on this.” Before he could question, your hand already was moving down his body, going straight to his fly, making him moan quietly at the very moment you groped him “Do you still think that your day can’t get better?”
“You’re starting to convince me that it can.” He answered while tightening his grip on your waist.
“Don’t worry, I’ll show you that it can.” Right after finishing the sentence you moved to the floor, kneeling between his legs while looking into his eyes.
“Honey, there’s a lot of people in the office.” Jack sounded slightly worried but didn’t prevent you from undoing his belt and opening his zipper.
“I know that, but I assume that people knock on the CEO’s door before entering.” You said while moving your hand inside his jeans, taking his cock in your hand “Or are you afraid of your coworkers hearing you whimpering?” you teased while freeing his erection from his pants, observing his mischievous smirk.
“Well then, sugar.” Jack leaned back comfortably on his chair and held your chin “Letting aside teasing, let’s see what this pretty mouth of yours can do.” He let go of your chin and relaxed, waiting for your next move.
You smiled sideways and didn’t hesitate before moving forward, running your tongue all over his length before taking him into your mouth slowly, slightly sucking the tip of his cock, just to tease him.
“Fuck…” Jack couldn’t hold back a quiet moan while moving one hand straight to your hair, you sighed satisfied and slid your mouth on him, savoring every inch you could take, and it was enough to make Jack contort slightly on the chair. You kept your eyes on his face, enjoying the vision of his mouth slightly opened and his chest starting to move quickly up and down as you kept the constant pace.
One of your hands remained on the base of his cock while the other moved along his thigh, squeezing it softly, and, even though you were enjoying the eye contact, you couldn’t help but close your eyes, loving every single part of that; the way his grip was getting tighter on your hair, how he seemed to have forgotten that most of the workers were still on the office and would listen to him if his groans got louder, and for sure you couldn’t ignore how hard he was on your mouth.
Jack was struggling harder than he ever had in his life, not even the most complicated missions he had been involved on his time as an agent were so difficult as keep his moans under control while he had you so beautifully kneeled in front of him, sucking his cock as if it was the most tasteful thing you ever had on your mouth. It was becoming too much for him.
“Sugar?” he called quietly with his breath considerably irregular, making you look up at him “Can I guide you?” Jack could see the sparkling in your eyes at the very moment he asked the question and you didn’t flinch before nodding your affirmation without pulling him out of your mouth “That’s my naughty little lady.” He caressed your scalp then grabbed a handful of your hair, starting to push and pull your head at the precise pace he wanted, not too fast to end the fun too soon and not too slow because he couldn’t trust his capacity of being quiet if that lasted for too long.
You kept both of your hands on his thighs, letting him take the lead while you could feel your body reacting to all of that, especially your panties getting wet and your clit throbbing at every move of your head. It became more noticeable for you how close to the edge Jack was when his hand clenched on the armrest of his chair, making his knuckles white.
Calmly, Jack pulled your head back, till he was out of your mouth, looking carefully at you with a lascivious look, loving the view of your reddish lips with a shining string of saliva connecting your mouth to his cock. He smirked and pushed you slowly back, moaning louder as he felt the warmth of your mouth moving on him once more, finally starting to lose the remaining crumbs of his composure.
“Be a good girl and suck it, darling’.” If you were wet before, after that you were unquestionably soaked, and of course, you obeyed, sucking his cock with all the desire you had on your body at that moment, realizing how much you had messed up with him when his other hand moved to your head too, now making you move faster, and you couldn’t control your moans as you felt him going deeper on your mouth, not bothering about the couple of times you had gagged on him.
Feeling his body getting to its limits, Jack grabbed your hair even tighter, biting his lips to try to suppress a loud moan as he reached his orgasm, filling your mouth with his sperm as his body started to relax. He let go of your hair, leaning his head back for a moment while wiping a few drops of sweat from his forehead, then turning his attention back to you, cupping your cheek and caressing it. You parted your lips a bit more, so he could see his seed puddled on your tongue, Jack smirked and held your chin between his thumb and index finger, appreciating that incredible view for a moment before cupping your cheek again and caressing your bottom lip with his thumb.
“Proceed as you want, sweetheart.” He said softly, aware that his high consumption of alcohol and red meat didn’t make his sperm so good flavored, barely did he know that you liked it anyway, but the message was probably well transmitted when you swallowed every drop of it with a smile on your face, resulting on him chuckling and shaking his head. “I can’t with you sometimes, honeybee. Now c’mere.” He pulled you up, kissing you slowly and caressing your back.
“Is your day improved enough for you to go home?” you asked softly against his lips.
“Our twenty-minute walk ‘till home will be very useful, ‘cause I have a lot of plans for you for the rest of the night.” He winked at you with a playful smile and kissed you once more.

"Many early works of American lesbian and gay history read like a roster of the United States' most populous cities. Initially an East-Coast--West Coast phenomenon, the bicoastal bias prevalent in many modes of cultural production is in this case now a simple matter of mass: recent community studies examine lesbian or gay life in Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago, Detroit, Flint, Louisville, Memphis, and New Orleans. Where many are gathered there is the historian.
The history [emphasis is mine] of gay people has often mirrored the history of the city. As currently crafted , the predominant theoretical model of American lesbian and gay historiography scripts gay identity and culture formation as linked to capitalist industrialization and urbanization, as most convincingly put forward by John D'Emilio. The four primary areas of focus--desire, identity, community or culture, and political movement--are arrayed in chronological fashion, such that the history of the group becomes an analogue for the individual. That is, as historian Allan Berube scrutinizes it, our history is a "coming-out" narrative writ large: Persons of ambiguous sexuality, experiencing inchoate emotions (desire) out there in the hinterlands, move to the city for economic reasons. There they find themselves (identity) and each other (community). They become aware of their collective oppression and act to resist it (movement). This linear, modernist trajectory--at least partially at work in Fitz Spencer's narrative--proves highly descriptive of any number of lives over time, but it also effects a number of exclusions.
...
While various factors overlap and figure prominently in this work, the regional bias--specifically, the exclusion of rural people from much American lesbian and gay history--is what I most hope to redress. I don't want to examine individuals who 'remained behind' in the 'great gay migration.' Rather, I attempt to look at persons who chose or found it necessary to make their homes on farms, in the woods, on rivers, in small communities and towns in Mississippi. Recognizing that those lives are never completely 'isolated,' as Fitz Spencer refers to it, that those with means often move into and again out of cities, I look at densely populated spaces in relationship to sparsely populated ones. Circulation is as important as congregation, avenues as important as venues.
While I document the spell, sway, and influence of Jackson (and New Orleans, Memphis, and other cities) on many Mississippians, I argue for an understanding of urban centers not only as centripetal, but also as centrifugal forces--locations from which emanate any number of forays and journeys, many of which are short term, leading to a variety of opportunities for encounters, meetings, and rendezvous. Of course, such spatial movements and interpersonal connections need never involve cities at all.
Indeed, the historiographical concern with identity and culture formation, as tied to cities, must remain a secondary but underlying focus of this study. Though [interviewee] Fitz Spencer valued, as many historians have, the freedom from parents, church, and local community allowed by mobility, other stories emerge if we listen and look closely. By examining desire, not only can we hear the words of those who utilized privilege to craft a gay life away from home, but we also can see the interactions between men who experienced and acted on queer desire within a small, localized realm, men who never took on a gay identity or became part of a gay community or culture. I resist essentialist notions that would find a certain percentage of gay people--a presentist category--among all peoples, across vast expanses of time and place. Instead, I would argue that homosexual desire is possible, to varying degrees, in all persons in all places. I attempt to chronicle the expression of that desire in [Mississippi] across a narrow historical period. And I hope to enhance a theoretical model that at times has denied agency to rural folk, that has assumed that non-urban dwellers can't attach meanings to, can't find useful ways of framing, their nonconforming attractions and behaviors.
For my purposes, human interactions are conceptualized and described less in terms of community or culture, than in terms of networks--often organic and incohesive, but sometimes consciously well structured. For example, a narrowly place-based, sustained, urban gay enclave--in which gay men regularly interacted with other self-identified gay men, mostly patronized gay establishments, and frequently participated in gay community rituals--did not pertain in Mississippi. Instead queer networks stretched across broader expanses of terrain, overcome at times by car or other transport; queer men with stealth and cunning moved in, across, and out of these spaces, local and long distance, usually retaining normative personae in work and leisure routines.
In Mississippi, spatial configurations--the unique characteristics of a rural landscape--forged distinct human interactions, movements, and sites. Gay community, thus, is not simply a phenomenon lacking at this place and time. Rather, it is a concept lacking in explanatory power, a notion that incompletely and inadequately gets at the shape and scope of queer life."

Soy biodiesel byproduct could enhance 3D printing industry
In a development that could advance the 3D printing industry, researchers at the University of Louisville have discovered a way to transform a significant waste output from soy biodiesel plants into a valuable resource. The team, led by Dr. Jagannadh Satyavolu, has developed a process to convert matter organic non-glycerol (MONG), a byproduct of biodiesel production, into copolymers suitable for 3D printing filaments. This innovative approach not only offers an environmentally friendly solution to waste management but also presents a new avenue for value addition within the biodiesel industry. The global demand for renewable energy sources has led to an increase in biodiesel production, resulting in a significant amount of waste byproducts such as MONG. Traditionally, MONG has been landfilled, posing environmental challenges and economic inefficiencies. However, the study presents a two-fold solution: a method to stabilize MONG for use in 3D printing and a reduction in the synthetic polymer content of natural fiber composites (NFC).

Police in Louisville have released bodycam footage showing the dramatic rescue of a woman who was found chained to the floor of a house after neighbors heard her screams for help.
Footage from officer-worn bodycams on Aug. 16 shows two officers circling the two-story house in the 1700 block of Bolling Avenue to find a way inside. The officers, however, quickly learned that all doors and windows on the first floor were completely barricaded, Louisville Metro Police Department said.
Neighbors lent the officers a ladder, which they used to climb to a window on the second floor that had been shattered.
Officers climbed inside, where they discovered a disturbing scene.
The woman who had been crying for help had a chain wrapped around her neck and secured with a padlock. The other end of the chain was bolted to the floor, police said.
Officers found a hatchet in the room and could be seen on video chopping the end of the chain bolted to the floor. After freeing the woman, the officers safely brought her outside the home, where firefighters used bolt cutters to remove the chain from around the woman’s neck.
Police said a suspect was arrested in connection with the case two days after the woman’s rescue.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Moises May, was charged with kidnapping, two counts of assault, and terroristic threatening, according to WDRB. He was also charged with intimidating a participant in the legal process, wanton endangerment and harassment.
The victim, Joanna Wilson, spoke to the station about the ordeal, alleging that May, her estranged boyfriend and father of her child, had made her strip her clothes off, used a machete to cut her hair and threatened to kill her.
"He made me strip naked, he put the chain around my neck. He called his friend and said, 'I've got to take this equipment back to Lowe's. When I come back, I'm going to kill you,'" Wilson told the outlet. "I only had a few minutes to get out."
Wilson said she was chained up in the house for about five hours before police arrived. She said she used to share the home with May.
She told the station that her child is staying with family.

Stella Star at Biscayne, Part 1 of 2
I'm at the Biscayne Motel, deep in Wildwood Crest! Join me!
Spring is in full swing here in Wildwood, and the motels are opening, one by one, and accepting guests. In the springtime last year, I visited one of our summer guests’ favorite locations: Biscayne Family Resort! I recommend this place. These photos were taken on April 26th, 1966. (…Or, was that 2022?) Well, it was a windy day, as April tends to be here in Doo Wop City, so my hair will be…

WHERE: Sons of Silence Clubhouse WITH: @sawyerdecker
Needless to say, since the exposé published in the Tribune, Rowan had been fucking fuming. Ordinarily, she didn’t even read the fucking paper, she left that shit to Jensen, but after hearing that her father’s name had been printed in it without her family’s knowledge or consent, it was safe to say she’d lost her shit in record time. It was times like this when she really fucking adored Sawyer for going into law, because while her natural inclination was to march up to the Tribune, her Louisville slugger in her right hand, she didn’t exactly fancy the idea of getting arrested a time when her family really needed her. So, she’d rather try a different avenue. Spotting the blonde as she stepped out of Cole’s office, Rowan flagged her down, a cigarette hanging limply from the corner of her mouth, “Hey,” she started, waving her over, “You got a minute?” Her features were frantic, far more so than she usually let on, which really was just a testament to how fucking pissed she was– if the chainsmoking and dark circles around her eyes weren’t enough, “Just wonderin’ how easy it is to nail someone to a fuckin’ wall for publishin’ shit about my family without consent?”

2015 Sing-Off tour
Tumblr media
The first Sing-Off national tour in 2014 was a rousing success. So, even though the show's fifth "season" was reduced to a one-night holiday special, the second tour was expanded. The schedule was nearly twice as long, packing in 56 cities over the course of 9 weeks.
.
Rehearsals
The singers didn't document their rehearsals for the second tour the way they did the year before. Why? Because the VoicePlay guys lost most of the first of their two allotted practice days to weather related flight troubles. Once they finally made it to upstate New York, it was crunch time on the group numbers with their new compatriots to be ready for opening night.
.
Performances
Not only did the second tour visit more cities, for one night it was also livestreamed through Live Nation. Thanks to the forethought of an Exchange fan, the full Louisville concert from March 25th — including season 5 winners the Vanderbilt Melodores — has been archived in one convenient place.
(But because more is better, I've also provided links to audience recordings of individual songs from other stops on the tour.)

Award-winning barbershop quartet Forefront weren't included in the streamed video, but they did a great job warming up the crowd at the Louisville show.
Although they didn't perform it for the streamed concert, VoicePlay and Street Corner Symphony's cover of "Don't" by Ed Sheeran that had served as the tour announcement was included in at least some of the shows during the tour. There is a video of it from Red Bank, NJ.
Because they'd used most of their songs from the competition during the previous tour, VoicePlay's set was comprised of numbers from their established stage rotation, a recent addition to their "Aca Top 10" series, and one medley exclusive to the tour that featured video clips from some of their season 4 compatriots.
At the Seattle show, The Exchange slipped a version of "Can't Hold Us" by local boy Macklemore into their set.
The eldest Lister brother, Richie, was on the tour with Street Corner Symphony for the first few weeks, then handed his microphone off to Kaleb Jones for the rest of the run.
While Layne was away for one weekend to be in his sister's wedding, first Richie Steighner from The Exchange, and then VoicePlay's hometown pal Antonio Fernandez stepped in to cover percussion.

Shenanigans & reunions

Press coverage
There were several nice write-ups about the show in various outlets, both before and during its run, as well as a few television appearances.
A pre-tour interview with Geoff covered the a cappella scene in general and gave hints of the tour to come. The resulting article by Alan Sculley appeared in both The Sun Chronicle (Attleboro, MA) and the Detroit Free Press.
A very nice recap of the Providence, RI show by Jathan Fink was published on the website for the New Bedford, MA talk radio station and on his personal blog.
When the tour passed back through NYC, VoicePlay stopped in to visit with Nick Lachey at his new gig on VH1's Big Morning Buzz. The guys also got to meet actress Jane Lynch and social media darling ToastMeetsWorld while they were there. The video doesn't seem to be available anywhere anymore, but there are still a few pictures.

Alix Jansma of Boston University's Daily Free Press had nothing but praise for music director Deke Sharon — an alumnus of both Tufts University and Berklee College of Music — and the tour itself, particularly VoicePlay's set.
Local outlets in Florida were, of course, proud to have VoicePlay bringing the show back to their home state. The Broward Palm Beach New Times had a nice preview interview with Geoff by Natalya Jones for the Coral Springs stop, and Boca Raton Magazine published a lovely recap.
Crew member Jacklyn Krol provided a backstage peek on the Stage Right Secrets blog.
The VoicePlay boys had an early morning appearance on the local NBC affiliate in Kansas City to promote the tour, show off their talents, and give the hosts an impromptu a cappella lesson:

Price Hill’s Wilder Avenue Memorializes A Wealthy Family With One Wild Child
Tumblr media
It has often been said that the best way to make a small fortune is to start out with a large fortune, and that was certainly the philosophy of Horace K. Wilder.
Today, the Wilder name is hardly remembered in Cincinnati. There is a minor street in Price Hill marking the boundary between East Price Hill and Lower Price Hill named for the Wilder family, but that’s about it. At one time the Wilders owned more than 60 acres of land, a significant portion of the hilltop and eastern slopes of Price Hill.
Horace Wilder, in other words, grew up in comfort if not outright luxury. His family had money, even if they were not inclined to spend it ostentatiously. There was no Wilder mansion up on Price Hill, unlike the substantial residences of their neighbors Reese Price and Peter Neff. Still, Horace knew the value of money. That knowledge even got him into trouble.
As a young man, just starting out in the world, Horace lived with his uncle William Wilder. Horace’s mother died when he was quite young and his father not much later. Horace and Uncle William spent the summer of 1892 in Florida and returned home at the end of August. Horace took the family carriage out to visit friends and Uncle William discovered that his pocket book, containing $115, was missing. He contacted the police and had Horace arrested. As court testimony revealed, Horace was innocent. As he left the house, he realized that his uncle, sitting on the lawn, was quite inebriated and might easily be robbed by any passer-by. Horace put the pocket book in the house and let Uncle William sleep it off.
On achieving the age of 21 in 1893, Horace came into a substantial inheritance and immediately launched a campaign to spend it all as soon as possible. Horace quickly earned a reputation in Cincinnati as an easy mark, but his revels extended to Hamilton and Louisville. One day, Horace hired a cab to take himself, a boxer named Charles Slusher and an artist named Henry Niemeyer on an expedition to paint the town red. According to the Cincinnati Post [5 December 1893]:
He ”bought Slusher a pair of gloves, Niemeyer a hat, gave the latter $2 on two different occasions, and allowed him to pick up the change when he broke a bill and bought champagne and beer for a gang of ‘cadgers’ who followed them about.”
When Horace awoke the next morning, he was convinced he had been robbed and had saloonist Jack Page arrested on suspicion. Page provided sufficient evidence to have the charges dropped, the evidence being that Horace was too drunk to remember that he had spent the supposedly stolen money. Page turned around and sued Horace for slander and Horace had to shell out a thousand dollars to soothe Page’s temper.
With Page mollified, Horace moved his base of operations uptown to Kissel’s beer garden in Over-The-Rhine. There, he beheld the comely chanteuse Ida Reynolds and declared his intent to marry the young lady immediately. After delivering a veritable greenhouse of flowers to Miss Reynolds’ dressing room, followed up with cases of bubbly, he popped the question, but she turned him down.
Horace next caught sight of Bessie Miller, a woman of alluring countenance but mysterious circumstances. It turned out that she was a kept woman, the mistress of a caterer serving a prison term for embezzling from the Phoenix Club. Horace’s ardor cooled.
Tumblr media
With his exploits filling the newspapers almost every day, Horace’s family grew concerned. Word got around that one of his uncles wanted to have the court put Horace in a guardianship. Horace took the hint and departed for the Oklahoma Territory to stay with one of his brothers until things cooled down in Cincinnati.
Three months later, Horace was back in town, announcing plans to open a gambling joint in Northern Kentucky, financed by yet another sale of his inherited Price Hill property. Not mentioned in any of the stories about Horace’s shenanigans on this trip through Cincinnati is the fact that he was now a married man. While in Oklahoma, Horace married Zula Belle Shaffer on 7 February 1894. By all accounts, Miss Shaffer was a beautiful and accomplished young lady well established in the social register of the western territory. She was 18 and had been born in Ohio.
Married or not, Horace continued his wastrel ways. By April he was in Hot Springs, Arkansas and word got back to Cincinnati that he was broke and reduced to pawning a diamond stick pin to pay his hotel bill.
Horace came close to getting himself killed in Cincinnati that autumn. At the Grand Saloon, an establishment smack in the middle of Cincinnati’s red-light district, Horace got into an argument with a sporting man named Billy Finlaw. Witnesses said they were arguing about an actress named Florence Miller. Words were said and Finlaw pushed Horace to the floor. Finlaw told his companions that, if he had a gun, he would blow Horace’s head off. One of his pals took him up on the threat and handed him a pistol, having first removed all the ammunition. Finlaw ran outside, confronted Horace and pulled the trigger a half-dozen times with the gun just inches from his face. Horace got the message and split.
But not for long. A month later, the papers reported that Horace had purchased a carriage and a fine horse and transported his friends around to all the resorts in the Tenderloin. That purchase was reported almost simultaneously with the sale of Horace’s last remaining lot in Price Hill.
Maybe he ran out of steam. He certainly appeared to run out of money, For whatever reason, Cincinnati heard nothing from Horace for almost three years, and then learned that he was dead. Word came from Oklahoma that Horace had overdosed on morphine, presumably a suicide.
The report was wrong. Horace’s brother, Charles Rollin “Roll” Wilder had received an identical share of inheritance as Horace. He took his money west and invested in Oklahoma land, holding down a position as an executive at one of the territorial banks. Horace stayed with him whenever Cincinnati got too hot for comfort. Horace did overdose on morphine, but pulled through, a much chastened man.
He moved back to Cincinnati. This time he brought his wife along. They rented a little house on Neff Avenue in Price Hill, one of his family’s former properties. Horace worked as a bookkeeper, a police officer and a carriage salesman. It was not a happy home. Horace moved out and took rooms on Garfield Place. Zula sued his sister and brother-in-law for encouraging Horace to abandon her.
The feuding in-laws were still airing the family’s dirty laundry in court when Horace died, this time for real. He was only 32. Burial was in the family plot at Spring Grove Cemetery.
