Thinking about a world where Háma isn't captured and instead just manages to escape into the wild. Maybe he tries to get to the Hornburg but can't get through the siege lines and doesn't know about the caverns, everyone just assumes he's dead (whether Wulf like finds some of Háma's torn clothing and shows it off to Helm and Héra like "Yeah he's totally dead") ideally he wants to go to Fréaláf but there's a lot of patrolling groups looking for him to actually properly kill him so he spends a while wandering, moving from place to place trying to survive through the winter. He gets little bits of information that trickles from the various raiding groups who comment on the siege. He doesn't know it's all over until he sees people returning to some of the ruined villages he's been hiding in, so he finally can make it back to Edoras.
Everyone is naturally very surprised to see him alive, especially because they've already declared Fréaláf as the new king. I can't see Háma actually minding too much, his brother was set to be king, he doesn't really want it, the visual guide mentions him being jealous of the freedom Héra enjoys so I can imagine him instead just, accepting Fréaláf as the new king and joining Héra on her journey or heading off on one of his own, to find himself now
TLDR: I am in denial about Háma's death and want to think of nice AUs where he gets to live and be happy and free

War of the Rohirrim spoilers:
I understand that Hama had to die. I do. I understand that he absolutely had to die in the specific the way that he did, because Hama as a character represents the valor and honor of the people of Rohan (exemplified in his mastery of song, which is how those values are upheld in the community and passed along to the next generation), and Wulf, who rejects these values, had to kill him in a dishonorable way to represent his attempt to destroy the values of the Eorlingas and prove that valor and honor are worthless. And I understand that Hama’s instrument being passed to others represents that that valor and honor did not die with him, and could not be destroyed by Wulf. I understand this! I do! But also, have you considered: it made me sad

started off as me redrawing some of my initial mairon designs and ended up going on an rpg tangent 😭 i really wish i could have done the portraits in a pixel art style to better fit the aesthetic but my canvas wasnt the right size!!! i ended up changing annatar completely (im still contemplating how much i prefer this one compared to his old one however...!) and adjusting post-numenor sauron a bit when compared to their old 2022 sketches! im probably gonna do more redraws in the months to come cause of all the stuff i wanna change when i look back to some of my old designs haha 😳
bonus: void delusions (nebula background designed by Freepik)
i like to think each 'form' sauron takes eventually has different mannerisms and likes/dislikes the longer he stays in them without shapeshifting into something else, but one thing they all have in common is being predisposed to nagging melkor 😎
#silmarillion#mairon#sauron#annatar#tar mairon#melkor#silm#maybe i had a little too much fun with the rpg stuff.... ONE DAY... one day i will learn to program....!#i like to think his go-to look is the blonde one from when he was in the mairon and sauron-gorthaur era#which is why tar-mairon looks so similar to those two eras hehe#i wanna try and make annatar a bit more distinct from them next time....#anyways im in a bit of a lotr nostalgia phase bc i saw war of the rohirrim and surprisingly i liked it!!#mostly because of hama.... he reminded me of maglor quite a bit 🥹#i was apprehensive going into it but ended up enjoying it haha... tho its prob bc i dont know any of the 3rd age rohan lore#i should probably brush up on everything else that doesnt concern the elves...!! forgive my ignorance professor tolkien#the silmarillion#silm art#third age#second age#silmart#morgoth#khamul#nazgul#irmo#maiar#valar#lotr#tolkien fanart

It’s so sad not more people in the LOTR fandom are talking about WOTR. Even ROP was trending on here at one point and I liked that way less than WOTR.
But it is to be expected. So many purists are so boring and critical. The reviews I’ve seen make my eyes roll. Must be sad living in a way where you can’t find joy in a fun little movie. I for one will see it again because Rohan Royal line are magnificent and all hot. Helm is METAL. Haleth is Metal. Hama is metal. Hera is metal. And Frealaf is Metal. And they’re metal for all different reasons, which I love.

If you'll excuse me a moment, I have to go cry at the way Aragorn takes a moment in the preparation of a battle to comfort a child who is facing down terror and death and the way he holds his shoulder like he does to his friends and looks him in the eye and says so softly but so firmly "there is always hope"

Y’all, I am being forced back onto my LOTR Háma soapbox because people have now tagged me in several posts that I consider to be Háma slander!
Forget the movies for a minute and look at the books. Háma is NOT a dummy. He knows who Gandalf is, and he knows what a wizard can do with a staff. That’s why he flags that the staff should be considered a violation of Meduseld’s weapon ban in the first place. But the fact that he subsequently allows Gandalf to bring the staff in does NOT mean that he suddenly and inexplicably changed his mind about the status of the staff or was tricked into doing so. Look at what he says:
“The staff in the hand of a wizard may be more than a prop for age,” said Háma. He looked hard at the ash-staff on which Gandalf leaned. “Yet in doubt a man of worth will trust to his own wisdom. I believe you are friends and folk worthy of honour, who have no evil purpose. You may go in.”
He says very clearly that 1) he knows the staff can be dangerous; 2) in this situation, he’s going to use his own judgment rather than worrying about what the rules say; and 3) his judgment tells him that Gandalf is a good person who won’t do anything evil. Nowhere in there does he say that he’s decided the staff itself isn’t a potential danger. He’s decided that Gandalf with the staff isn’t a danger. He trusts Gandalf not to use the staff to hurt anyone or harm anyone’s interests. And he was right!!!
So this is just a reminder that literally every single thing Háma says or does in the books is right and righteous:
✅ (Politely) calling Aragorn on his BS about refusing to leave his sword outside because Háma is no pushover
✅ Trusting Gandalf to bring the staff in because he’s an excellent judge of character and knows that good will come of that choice
✅ Giving Éomer his sword back even though he hasn’t been ordered to do so because, again, he knows who is good and who is bad and always wants to help those who are on the side of good
✅ Nominating Éowyn to be leader of the Eorlingas because he isn’t afraid to challenge antiquated ideas about gender roles
✅ Telling other skeptical Rohirrim to trust in Gandalf’s leadership because Háma is wise enough to see past the elements of Gandalf’s behavior that others find unsettling
✅ Giving his life in the effort to protect and defend others
In summary: Háma, Captain of the Guard and Doorward of Meduseld, 10/10 no notes. He is perfect.

Unpopular opinion: Hama isn't a twink. He's average sized. His dad and brother are just fucking huge.
#WOTR#war of the rohirrim#just your average sized pretty boi#Hama#Haleth#seriously tho#watch the movie again#Hama has some pretty good-sized shoulders#poor cinnamonroll is just doomed to look like a 16 year old twink forever by comparison#my precious Hama also has baby face syndrome#which doesn’t help#lotr#helm hammerhand

book!Aragorn is much more fun if you embrace him and enjoy him as the diva princess; who, despite being a hero of Man and the one true king, somehow still manages to have a way too good opinion of himself, that he is.
For a guy with such an impressive track record, it'd be quite a feat to be too full of himself, to give himself too much credit, but book!Aragorn manages it.
This is a PSA: brought to you by Hama the Door Warden.
#Hey we've all got duties and constraints on our freewill it's totally not a sexism thing that all your duties are picked for you#and are the ones that never get any credit or renown!#You just stay behind and if everything fails then you'll get to fight at the end when all hope is lost#and there's nothing but for you and your people to be destroyed in a futile last stand!#like calling the Lady of the Shield Arm a fair “thing” to be given away!??!#Eowyn#you dodged a bullet there#and he's got form#when he first met#Arwen#he asked her if she was a treasure her father had hoarded away#LOTR#Lord of the Rings#Aragorn#and when he tried to mansplain away sexism to Eowyn at Dunharrow#“Like why is that a problem for you sweetpea?”#And serious credit to Eowyn like she's hot for Aragorn but she doesn't let that fly#Hama the Door Warden taught her well

Prince Hàma is about as useful as Lord Celeborn or TROP's High King Gil-Galad in a fight
I love him
A man should be TWO THINGS
Pretty and unconscious. We've outlived the need for good warriors we already have Eowyn, Galadriel and Hèra for that
Men, start fainting

Genuinely surprised that's there's literally…nothing of him yet, nothing on AO3, barely any art (I mean I made some of it) and I mean…let's be real, there's nothing R18 of him either yet. Are the viewing figures that low? Where's the fanboys and fangirls coming out to make the fix-it AUs, pretty art and reader inserts. Damn…do I have to do it myself again?
