I’ll say this right now. I don’t think the world should try me. I am not God’s strongest soldier. Sometimes I watch a piece of media and see the way a character experiences trauma after trauma, falling down an irreversible path of evil and possibly even straight up insanity and think… wow they’re handling this way better than I would.

Like I’m not saying I would jump to murder or anything but I think I would become the most unhinged version of not okay you’ve ever seen.

(This post is about Lex Luthor from Smallville. Literally it’s season one and this guy is just out here, living his life, trying to improve the lives of everyone around him with charity and kindness and the entire town just fucking hates him. Not even because of anything he did but because of his father. Like everyone is allowed to be an A-grade asshole because they’ve been personally victimized by Lionel Luthor but when Lex tries to do anything he’s “a manipulative son of a bitch” and “just like his father”. Like god forbid a child try to escape the shadow of their abusive parent. I mean does no one in this town have any sense of compassion? He feels like a more tragic version of Candice from Phineas and Ferb. Forced to never be believed in and slowly driven insane bc of it.)

I can’t believe I’ve never seen anyone mention that Fords college counselor told him multiple times, point blank, to ‘seek therapy’ OH MY GOSH. This man 😭😭 his issues have issues and keep ignoring the help that the people around him try to give him bc he believes he needs to do stuff on his own. The foreshadowing is wild. Stanley, the college counselor, and Fiddleford, all of them trying to reach this man and tell him it’s okay to ask for help.

I hope he and Stanley both got the therapy they needed post-Weirdmaggedon. Or at least talked through their issues like function (semi functional) people

it's so many concepts that appeal to me. a little unassuming creature. the idea of mirages being the dreams of a creature at the bottom of the sea. the nebulousness of the concept of a "dragon". mirages and illusions in general

im not a writer so i dont have a lot of plot or lore for him or anything but he IS entirely based off the concept of "deserts have mirages. oceans have mirages. the desert conjures up a mirage of the ocean"

Me seeing that we’re getting 141 as a new fire crew in weewoo world and my brain immediately thinks about psalm 141 and sonnet 141 (Shakespeare)

Bearing in mind the fact that 911 loves to play on religious theming and has been know to play into some Shakespearean themes before as well, I think it’s v era much worth paying note to both the palm and the sonnet!

Sonnet 141 is about the conflict of senses and desire - the pain of desire and love is equally soothing.

In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes,

For they in thee a thousand errors note;

But ’tis my heart that loves what they despise,

Who, in despite of view, is pleas’d to dote;

Nor are mine ears with thy tongue’s tune delighted;

Nor tender feeling, to base touches prone,

Who leaves unsway’d the likeness of a man,

Part of the sonnet hints at the ladies unfaithfulness and at her being displeasing sexually and that should be enough for him to leave, but his heart hasn’t caught up with (essentially) his brain!

It’s one of the dark lady sonnets Shakespeare wrote which was the sequence of sonnets that followed the fair youth sonnets sequence.

There is thought among Shakespeare scholars that the dark lady sonnets, because they display a distaste for women, are meant as a counterpoint and juxtaposition to the fair youth sonnets which are homoerotic in their nature and therefore this sonnet is meant to play into the idea of love and desire overcoming sense and societal expectations!!

Psalm 141 to all intents and purposes plays to a similar theme, albeit one of asking god to protect one from enemies but also from the temptation to sin - to resist the enticements of the wicked.

Can’t wait to see if these themes play out in anyway across this season

When you understand who your OC is in a quiet room. When you hear their voice for the first time and can't hear your own reflected back at you. When you understand all the ways their trauma does not define your OC and yet is an indelible part of them all the same. When you write a joke that you hate just because you know your OC would make it, the same way they wear that awful shirt. When you realize what a dustrag they are. When you see the side of them that is a sopping wet cat. When you see them in their complexity, unconstrained by simple words like cool or smart or edgy and see how these myriad facets are shown to and picked up by other characters in the story.

Do you hear me? Do you understand? Have you seen what I am so normal about right now? I am being so normal about the little people in my brain right now.
