DSMP X TAZ BALANCE

When registering to Balance I remembered this drawing. I swear I posted this years ago, but couldn’t find it! So I’ll just do it again lol. Which is a shame cause I wrote so much about symbolism and what not…

Tommy as Taako: it’s about change! Tommy’s hands always reaching out taking stuff, breaking and mending and transforming. Transmutation feels deeply tied into Tommy’s character to me. And Tommy and Tubbo can’t be anything other than the twins, joined at the hip, and the way Tommy is utterly a husk without his Tubbo. Also both Tommy and Taako getting framed for horrible events that they aren’t entirely culpable, always running from it. Plus turning the umbrastaff and wizard hat into discs was too good to pass up!

Tubbo as Lup: Instead of fire, it’s more along the lines of explosions. Tubbo doesn’t have any clothing that don’t have burn holes and scorch marks (which does mean Tommy doesn’t either!). He was clumsy in the early days too, ending up with facial scaring from it. Raw power dancing at his fingertips, Tubbo doubling down on it as the cycles go on, desperately trying to build up power until he cracks it and becomes the first wizard to figure out nuclear fission. It’s the power of nukes that Tubbo uses to fuel his ascent to Lichdom and, of course, the bonds with his friends.

Anyway….. the liches! In this au Techno (Magnus) also becomes a Lich because hello??? Blood for the Blood God!!

aight here’s the updated dsmp/mcyt taz amnesty au bc now i’m hyperfixated

before y’all say anything: yes i know that some of this doesn’t follow canon. basically what happened was i thought about techno and duck similarities which led me to thinking about other characters and now i’m hyperfixated and have a 7 page google doc of information about a fucking hypothetical au (because lord knows i can’t write for shit). also note that all relationships in taz amnesty do NOT carry over to their mcyt counterparts (ex. aubrey and dani are dating, tommy and tubbo are NOT). oh yeah also this really won’t make any sense if you haven’t listened to the adventure zone: amnesty. if you want more info about it lmk!!

Description of the items:

Hat of Fox's Cunning:

While user is attuned to this hat and wears it, they have advantage on arcana and nature checks.

Bag of Holding:

This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents

Dagger of Returning:

It's a +1 dagger. It does 1d4 points of damage. This weapon automatically returns when thrown.

Amulet of Planes:

While wearing this Amulet, you can use an action to name a location that you are familiar with on another plane of existence. Then make a DC 15 Intelligence check. On a successful check, you cast the Plane Shift spell. On a failure, you and each creature and object within 15 feet of you Travel to a random destination. Roll a d100. On a 1-60, you Travel to a random location on the plane you named. On a 61-100, you Travel to a randomly determined plane of existence.

Ohhh my goodness these similarities have been rolling in my head without me fully realising it and you put it to words, that's amazing!!! I completely agree with you on all of this 👀👀

Also, psps, if ya wanna join me in brainstorming about a mcyt in the taz balance universe au... 👉👈 absolutely no pressure, tho!!!

dream smp & the adventure zone

ok this idea has been rolling around in my head for a while so: dream smp and the adventure zone comparisons! this is in terms of development/theme/etc

first, and most obvious, roleplay and the way it changes over time! they both started as a funny thing that was not intended to have a legitimate storyline. because of this, the characters weren’t originally meant to be “sympathetic”–they were meant to be entertaining. in taz, they spend the first two or three arcs stealing, murdering, and ruthlessly making fun of every npc griffin introduces. in the dream smp, wilbur literally starts l'manburg to sell drugs. so, humor over morals.

however. they both gained followings and plots, and the creators realized they could take it a bit more seriously. of course, they still joked around a lot (mostly) but they had moments of genuine character development and drama. those humorous things that they did originally became morally gray, creating a story where the protagonists weren’t perfect, or even good.

then, of course, there’s wilbur and griffin: for the first season, they both play the role of the dm, the author. even apart from the rp, there are some parallels to be drawn here (unhinged chaos, musical talent, etc) but they both put so so much effort into the storyline and are super supportive of the fans and i appreciate them both immensely

we’ve got that sweet, sweet lgbtq+ representation!! in taz, there’s taako, kravitz, lup, carey, killian, and that’s only some of the characters in just the first season. in the dream smp, not only are there people like eret and nihachu, but also in the storyline itself, though it’s mostly played for laughs (marriages and such). the way that fundy’s character is technically trans if it’s considered good rep really reminded me of lup: it’s just an aspect of the character. it isn’t important to the plot or their character, it’s just who they are. it can be mentioned once and then never again!

rapid fire round: found family, wilbur and sally reminds me a bit of merle and those vines, ghostbur is experiencing memory problems, found family, self-aware (mentioning animatics, fan-artists, and beach episodes), can make you laugh and cry within the same episode, found family

that’s all i can think of; feel free to add on if you have any more ideas!
