Conservatives are fringe outliers - and leftists could learn from them

The Republican Party, a coalition between Big Business farmers and turkeys who’ll vote for Christmas (Red Scare obsessed cowards, apocalyptic white nationalists, religious fanatics, etc) has fallen to its bizarre, violent, noisy radical wing, who are obsessed with policies that are completely irrelevant to the majority of Americans.

As Oliver Willis writes, the views of the radical right — which are also the policies of the GOP — are wildly out of step with the US political view:

The press likes to frame American politics as “narrowly divided,” but the reality is that Republicans’ electoral victories are due to voter suppression and antimajoritarian institutions (the Senate and Electoral College, etc), not popularity. Democrats consistently outperform the GOP in national races. Dems won majorities in 1992/6, and beat the GOP in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. The only presidential race the GOP won on popular votes since 1988 was 2004, when GW Bush eked out a plurality (not a majority).

But, as Willis says, Dems “act like it is 1984 and that they are outliers in a nation of Reagan voters,” echoing a stilted media narrative. The GOP’s platform just isn’t popular. Take the groomer panic: 71% of Americans approve of same-sex marriage. The people losing their shit about queer people are a strange, tiny minority.

Every one of the GOP’s tentpole issues is wildly unpopular: expanding access to assault rifles, banning immigration, lowering taxes on the rich, cutting social programs, forcing pregnant people to bear unwanted children, etc. This is true all the way up to the GOP’s coalescing support for Trump as their 2024 candidate. Trump has lost every popular vote he’s ever stood for, and owes his term in the Oval Office to the antimajoritarian Electoral College system, gerrymandering, and massive voter suppression.

Willis correctly points out that Dem leaders are basically “normal” center-right politicians, not radicals. And, unlike their GOP counterparts, politicians like Clinton, Obama and Biden don’t hide their disdain for the radical wing of their party. Even never-Trumper Republicans are afraid of their base. Romney declared himself “severely conservative” and McCain “put scare quotes around ‘health of the mother’ provisions for abortion rights.”

The GOP fringe imposes incredible discipline on their leaders. Take all the nonsense about “woke capitalism”: on the one hand, it’s absurd to call union-busting, tax-dodging, worker-screwing companies “woke” (even if they sell Pride flags for a couple of weeks every year).

But on the other hand? The GOP leadership have actually declared war on the biggest corporations in America, to the point that the WSJ says that “Republicans and Big Business broke up”:

But America is a two-party system and there are plenty of people who’ll pull the lever for any Republican. This means that when the GOP comes under the control of its swivel-eyed loon wing, the swivel-eyed loons wield power far beyond the number of people who agree with them.

There’s an important lesson there for Dems, whose establishment is volubly proud of its independence from its voters. The Biden administration is a weirdly perfect illustration of this “independence.” The Biden admin is a kind of referee, doling out policies and appointments to its competing wings, without any coherence or consistency.

That’s how you get incredible appointments like Lina Khan at the FTC and Jonathan Kanter at the DoJ Antitrust Division and Rohit Chopra at the Consumer Finance Protection Bureat — the progressive wing of the party bargained for these key appointments and then played their cards very well, getting incredible, hard-charging, hyper-competent fighters in those roles.

Likewise, Jared Bernstein, finally confirmed as Council of Economic Advisers chair after an interminable wrangle:

And Julie Su, acting labor secretary, who just delivered a six-year contract to west coast dockworkers with 8–10% raises in the first year, paid retroactively for the year they worked without a contract:

But the Biden admin’s unwillingness to side with one wing of the party also produces catastrophic failures, like the martyrdom of Gigi Sohn, who was subjected to years of vicious personal attacks while awaiting confirmation to the FCC, undefended by the Biden admin, left to twist in the wind until she gave it up as a bad job:

It’s how we get key roles filled by do-nothing seatwarmers like Pete Buttigieg, who has the same sweeping powers that Lina Khan is wielding so deftly at the FTC, but who lacks either the will or the skill to wield those same powers at the Department of Transport:

By refusing to stand for anything except a fair division of powers among different Democratic Party blocs, the Biden admin ends up undercutting itself. Take right to repair, a centerpiece of the administration’s agenda, subject of a historic executive order and FTC regulation:

Right to Repair fights have been carried out at the state level for years, with the biggest victory coming in Massachusetts, where an automotive R2R ballot initiative won overwhelming support in 2020:

But despite the massive support for automotive right to repair in the Bay State, Big Car has managed to delay the implementation of the new law for years, tying up the state in expensive, time-consuming litigation:

But eventually, even the most expensive delaying tactic fails. Car manufacturers were set to come under the state right to repair rule this month, but they got a last minute reprieve, from Biden’s own National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, who sent urgent letters to every major car manufacturer, telling them to ignore the Massachusetts repair law:

The NHTSA repeats the car lobby’s own scare stories about “cybersecurity” that they blitzed to Massachusetts voters in the runup to the ballot initiative:

The idea that cybersecurity is best maintained by letting powerful corporations gouge you on service and parts is belied by independent experts, like SecuRepairs, who do important work countering the FUD thrown off by the industry (and parroted by Biden’s NHTSA):

But here we are: the Biden admin is sabotaging the Biden admin, because the Biden admin isn’t an administration, it’s a system for ensuring proportional representation of different parts of the Democratic Party coalition.

This isn’t just bad for policy, it’s bad politics, too. It presumes that if some Democratic voters want pizza, and others want hamburgers, that you can please everyone by serving up pizzaburgers. No one wants a pizzaburger:

The failure to deliver a coherent, muscular vision for a climate-ready, anti-Gilded Age America has left the Democrats vulnerable. Because while the radical proposals of the GOP fringe may not enjoy much support, there are large majorities of Americans who have lost faith in the status quo and are totally uninterested in the Pizzaburger Party.

Nowhere is this better explained than in Naomi Klein’s superb long-form article on RFK Jr’s presidential bid in The Guardian:

Don’t get me wrong, RFK Jr is a Very Bad Politician, for all the reasons that Klein lays out. He’s an anti-vaxxer, a conspiracist, and his support for ending American military aggression, defending human rights, and addressing the climate emergency is laughably thin.

But as Klein points out, RFK Jr is not peddling pizzaburgers. He is tapping into a legitimate rage:

a great many voters are hurting and rightfully angry: about powerful corporations controlling their democracy and profiting off disease and poverty. About endless wars draining national coffers and maiming their kids. About stagnating wages and soaring costs. This is the world — inflamed on every level — that the two-party duopoly has knowingly created.

RFK Jr is campaigning against “the corrupt merger between state and corporate power,” against drug monopolies setting our national health agenda, and polluters capturing environmental regulators.

As Klein says, despite RFK Jr’s willing to say the unsayable, and tap into the yearning among the majority of American voters for something different, he’s not running a campaign rooted in finally telling the American public “the truth.” Rather, “public discourse filled with unsayable and unspeakable subjects is fertile territory for all manner of hucksters positioning themselves as uniquely courageous truth tellers.”

We’ve been here before. Remember Trump campaigning against a “rigged system” and promising to “make America great again?” Remember Clinton’s rejoinder that “America was already great?” It’s hard to imagine a worse response to legitimate outrage — over corporate capture, declining wages and living conditions; and spiraling health, education and shelter costs.

Sure, it was obvious that Trump was a beneficiary of the rigged system, and that he would rig it further, but at least he admitted it was rigged, not “already great.”

The Democratic Party is not in thrall to labor unions, or racial equality activists, or people who care about gender justice or the climate emergency. Unlike the GOP, the Dem establishment has figured out how to keep a grip on power within their own party — at the expense of exercising power in America, even when they hold office.

But unlike culture war nonsense, shared prosperity, fairness, care, and sound environmental policies are very popular in America. Some people have been poisoned against politics altogether and sunk into nihilism, while others have been duped into thinking that America can’t afford to look after its people.

In this regard, winning the American electorate is a macrocosm for the way labor activists win union majorities in the workplaces they organize. In her memoir A Collective Bargain, Jane McAlevey describes how union organizers contend with everything that progressive politicians must overcome. A union drive takes place in the teeth of unfair laws, on a tilted playing field that allows bosses to gerrymander some workers’ votes and suppress others’ altogether. These bosses have far more resources than the workers, and they spend millions on disinformation campaigns, forcing workers to attend long propaganda sessions on pain of dismissal.

But despite all this, labor organizers win union elections and strike votes, and they do so with stupendous majorities — 95% or higher. This is how the most important labor victories of our day were won: the 2019 LA teachers’ strike won everything. Not just higher wages, but consellors in schools, mandatory greenspace for every school in LA, an end to ICE shakedowns of immigrant parents at the school-gate, and immigration law help for students and their families. What’s more, the teachers used their unity, their connection to the community, and their numbers to get out the vote in the next election, winning the marginal seats that delivered 2020’s Democratic Congressional majority.

As I wrote in my review of MacAlevey’s book:

For McAlevey, saving America is just a scaled up version of the union organizer’s day-job. First, we fix the corrupt union, firing its sellout leaders and replacing them with fighters. Then, we organize supermajorities, person-to-person, in a methodical, organized fashion. Then we win votes, using those supermajorities to overpower the dirty tricks that rig the elections against us. Then we stay activated, because winning the vote is just the start of the fight.

It’s a far cry from the Democratic Party consultant’s “data-driven” microtargeting strategy based on eking out tiny, fragile majorities with Facebook ads. That’s a strategy that fails in the face of even a small and disorganized voter-suppression campaign — it it’s doomed in today’s all-out assault on fair elections.

What’s more, the consultants’ microtargeting strategy treats people as if the only thing they have to contribute is casting a ballot every couple years. A sleeping electorate will never win the fights that matter — the fight to save our planet, and to abolish billionaires.

If only the Democratic Party was as scared of its base as the Republicans are of their own.

I hope life has been treating you all well enough. The song from one direction popped into my head when I sat down and asked spirit what I should pull. This wasn’t really planned but I’m happy to deliver a message for some who needs it. What is it in the world that makes you beautiful? We need to know beauty can be dark and light, and acceptance of what is and what can be done is what we have the power to always do.

If you can visualize, close your eyes and imagine these cards in your mind (if the picture is not to your likening I provided others photos of what the cards are). See if one is dark and heavy or light and rising towards your heart. You can choose either or and if all of them feel as if they have significance go ahead and take these messages to remind you of your beauty.

The beauty you hold is from your wild spirit, I also think from the wings of a butterfly you may have a delicate beauty and energy to you. Others may call this a free spirit and I see wings upon you for you are always in the clouds. You enjoy your own company and see the beauty in the littlest things. Though I see you as a free spirit I see you also walking your own path alone. With the wings, you see things from a higher perspective than most, looking to the bright side of things. You understand peoples woes because you have been through them or have seen through others lives how hard it can be. There is wisdom here and never leaving things unsaid, but knowing when to back off from a situation if it gets to hot. I can see you try and help people see things in a new ways, but that lands you in difficult places. I see a pile two, what makes you beautiful is that you are a healer. Naturally, you have this need to give to the people you love and to others even undeserving but you still try and that is beautiful. There is this fear that you give too much or too little and so the balance is hard to pin down. Spirit wants to tell you that you give so much beauty and so much kindness to the ones who need it that you may unintentionally be the best medicine everyone needs. Your faith in spirit and yourself are powerful and majestic even when you may doubt. The stars shine within you and you are so willing to share that stardust. You try your best to stay emotionally balanced within most situations that require it. You know that many people need that energy, you are an emotionally mature person who can have spare time and room for other souls. You see the hope and beauty of people working together as one and your knowledge and wisdom guide others in the right direction. Do not burden yourself all the time with every tragedy that is brought to your attention but to use that deep pain to move forward a new grateful wave for what you have, and to love your anger and power for it is a tool that serves you well. Pile four you provide an energy of stability and out of all four piles. You are the most grounded giver but provider and I’m not saying you give it freely but even to yourself. Though I see you struggle with creativity at times and to make certain decisions that are sudden or offhanded when you make a choice you stick to it and that is something a lot of people need. You know that actions speak louder than words , and that sometimes words cannot describe what needs to be said, for you provide a stable sense of hope, knowing that not all things will come with sudden action so you are very wise like other piles. With every step, you are grateful and with every choice you consider the other carefully especially when it comes to others and your likely hood. You are a sight for sore eyes for a person who has met great hardship, you will not abandon the ones you have committed to, loyal people like you are so precious I just want to hide you away and keep you safe. C'mon people. I want to believe that Lauren Boebert was working as an escort, met Ted Cruz through clients, and was groomed by the far-right machine as much as anyone does - but don't publish until you have actual proof, and don't make shit up.

We know she was an aspiring "Explore Talent" model...

We know she is a loon who believes the church should direct the government...

We know her landlord is revoking her lease, but it is only rumors that it is because of moral reasons...

We know her husband was convicted of exposing his penis to a teenage girl...

But we can only guess at whether she was recruited by the GOP while working as a prostitute. Total conjecture.

You've mentioned you have some experience in politics. Do you have any insight on what the purpose of campaign contributions is? Are they used to keep items off the agenda of campaigning politicians? There are a bunch of studies now showing more campaign contributions doesn't necessarily make a politician more likely to win, but do they have a "gatekeeping" effect where you need a certain amount of money to have a chance in a race at all?

Your last sentence is entirely correct. No one knows what, if any, spending affects the race. However “being taken seriously” by the establishment (newspapers, the parties, debates, etc) changes you from a loon who gets 17% of the vote, to a real challenger who might get 45% of the vote (or more!) All the ways campaigns have of signaling seriousness (online petitions! policy papers! endorsements) are worthless because they are so easy. The only two ways of demonstrating this quality of “serious” are: a good poll showing the race close (which you can’t control), or getting people to part with their own hard earned money. If you can say “people have given me $2 million to kick out the incumbent” well the establishment takes notice. (Note: this is why a self funder can pump in seven figures of their own money and still be treated as a loon.)

Also recall that for most candidates, especially challengers, most donations come from unaffiliated individuals. Corporate PAC checks are rare unless you’re so established that they’re unlikely to really change any of your commitments.

Does a $5000 check convince a politician with decades of incumbency to vote the other way on a bill? Of course not. They don’t sway a politician anymore than a nasty reblog from a friend will push you off your principles.

But politicians, like all of us, still hate being yelled at. And they exist within a network of interest groups. If all of them at once get upset at the politician - if all of your mutuals hate-reblog you - there becomes a ton of psychic pressure to fold, or at least find a way to change your mind with dignity.

So mostly, once they are elected, office-holders are engaged in a constant struggle to get no one yelling at them. Like you and me. “Cut off contributions” are only one manifestation of that sort of yelling, and are responded in proportion to that.

via Barb's Place I have a whole list of things I would like to do to fix up the back yard now that the block fence is complete: put up a patio over the back porch, plant a couple of bushes or perhaps even a tree, put up a rain gutter on the portion of the roof over the tiki bar, go over to the place that sells scrap iron and see if there are any pieces suitable for bolting to the fence as decorative trellises, etc. And it's too damned hot to do any of it. At least the 110+ heat has broken for awhile – hopefully for good. I was able to take Bo out for his whole walk this evening for the first time in a couple of weeks, much to his delight. It was still hot and muggy, but not unbearably so. I took Bo in to the vet for his heartworm shot Monday; he's doing pretty well for an old-ish guy. No sign of hip problems so far, and no sign of any suspicious lumps. He's still very alert and energetic. Hard to believe he's almost ten. Out of curiosity, I've been trying to track down the various superpacs sponsoring political ads in AZ. There are three candidates fighting for the Republican nomination for Jeff Flake's seat, and there have been some reeeeeally odd ads as each tries to paint the others as wild-eyed liberals. Generally, if an ad against a Republican candidate is sponsored by a Democratic-aligned PAC, it will go something like this: SERIOUS MUSIC plays. MIDDLE AGED WHITE COUPLE looks sadly at the camera. WOMAN: I just don't know how we're going to survive if [Candidate] takes away our health care. MAN: (Nods solemnly, holds up ADORABLE GRANDCHILD) And think of the children! College Football 2020 Season Week 4 TV Watch Em Ups: Rivalry Week!

There’s still a whole lot of magic missing from the first COVID college football season but at least the B1G and Pac-12 will be playing weird schedules and we’ll have the worst bowl season ever. I’m not being sarcastic, I’m actually happy about those things.

It’s hard to look at this all and not feel the pull of regret that the season is even happening. I said on twitter a few days ago that I wish every athlete in the country would just go on strike right now and I stand by that. The plague isn’t getting better and the poxes are piling up. Oh, well, what the hell. Let’s just keep on playing.

The gambling info is from the same place as always and the scheduling info is from the other same place as always. Times are Eastern, the worst of all possible time zones for sports watching.

It’s only worth saying that if he’s in Starkville because if he’s at Faulkner’s alma mater I always want them to lose by 60+ every week.

Okie State looked horrible last week and so did WFV. Don’t put too much stock in week one, especially with a ton of roster churn. Pound that over at 51.5, in my humbly offered opinion. Which is only for entertainment purposes even in a gambling is mostly legal environment.

Texas at #8 looks fucking stupid but Texas Tech might be as bad as they’ve been since before Spike Dykes showed up in Lubbock. So the Horns -17.5 seems very reasonable to me.

Georgia is pretty talent-heavy and Arkansas is very much not but Kirby Smart and crew aren’t the kind of bloodthirsty loons that make my heart go pitty-pat. O/u of 53 and a 28-point line make sense but I’ll be plenty surprised if the score is actually in the realm of UGA 41-Ark 12. I’m thinking more like 24-6 or some boring shit like that.

Wa-HOO-wa! The line is tilting very heavily in Duke’s favor but the Cavaliers are still at -4. Hopefully that holds and the Hoos strangle the Devils in the crib to honor the blue lean of voters in the commonwealth.

I’ve got a feeling the answer is no, no and no but I’m openly pessimistic.

Levidromes

A levidrome is a word that when spelled backwards makes another word. Well, at least not yet. It is not in the Oxford English Dictionary. Levi Budd is a six-year-old boy from British Columbia in Canada who has coined the term 'levidrome' after spotting that the word 'STOP' spells 'POTS' backwards. After realising that there is no such word in English for this phenomena, a social media campaign has started to get this word in popular usage (hence this post). I wrote a short Python script this morning that will pull all of the levidromes from a dictionary file. The full list is copied below.

It is interesting to note that some levidromes are also palindromes. I wonder whether we need a new word to describe this phenomenon also?  Furthermore, there is no word in English for "a word that you make up in order to make another word make sense". I suggest: "emordivel" ?

Before the Lakers game Monday, I asked Klay Thompson about the good things the Warriors were putting together on the court, resulting in a seven-game win streak at the time. Klay said: "Let's get double digits. Haven't done that all year."

The Warriors have their sights on making this win streak a big one. After beating the Wizards on Thursday, they have a chance to get the win streak up to 10 games -- double digits! -- against the Celtics on Saturday.

The energy was improving leading up to the win streak because the Warriors were healthy and finding their rhythm on offense. Those two simple things steer so much of the outcome. There's another simple factor: Winning is fun!

The vibe around the team is great right now, but truthfully, there have been only a few moments when the vibe wasn't great. The Warriors do a good job keeping an even keel.

The players love having DeMarcus Cousins in the mix. He's hilarious, honest, talented and determined to have a strong season after going through one of the longest rehabs in the game. His teammates are rooting for him.

Draymond Green mentioned at practice that the timing of Boogie's return was advantageous. He explained: "To come back at a time when we were rolling allows him to come back to get his legs under him. He can get his feel back for the game after a year off, as opposed to trying to come back to be that piece to right the ship."

The Warriors are like the rest of the NBA looking at this roster and thinking ... whoa. They have every reason to dominate, and following through on that domination is the goal for a three-peat.

@NYBORN2009 How much playing time will Looney have with Cousins in the line up now??

Kevon Looney still is a valuable piece in the rotation. He is a reliable center who does his job well every night, and Steve Kerr praised Looney as the ultimate professional. While Boogie's minutes likely will stay around the 15- to 20-minute mark as he continues to ramp up his comfort level, Looney is right there as the next man up with about 20 minutes of his own. More if Boogie gets in foul trouble.

I asked Looney about his role changing now that Boogie is the starter. Loon told me: "I'm cool coming off the bench. It won't take me long. My role is pretty much the same ... gotta come in, bring the energy, play hard defense and rebound."

Looney noted he was coming off the bench when Damian Jones was starting, so changes don't bother him. He continued: "Boogie's a former All-Star. He's supposed to start, so I'll help our team any way."

@JTMyersNV99 Will the Warriors make any trade deadline deals, or just stand pat where they're at? Seems they could use some more depth with some of the injuries they've had this year.

@Cukoo4u Do they still have an open roster spot and what will they do with it?

There's a reason the Warriors have kept the 15th roster spot open. They want to examine options to make them even stronger heading into playoffs. They are evaluating their needs, primarily at center and wing, and exploring who's out there.

That said ... remember how many centers the Warriors carried last season and how strongly JaVale McGee's name was out there on the trading block? That doesn't mean it wasn't true, but nothing came of those talks. Trade talks can be a flurry of conversations that are serious but ultimately yield nothing.

Keep in mind the Warriors want to three-peat AND make wise decisions for future seasons, potentially strengthening a youth movement that has stumbled with DJ injured, Patrick McCaw leaving, Jacob Evans needing room to grow and Jordan Bell getting sporadic minutes.

If you click the link above, Warriors insider Monte Poole wrote about the dust-up in detail. There are a few things I'd like to add.

First, I don't know exactly what Kerr and Bell said to each other. But I do know being in L.A. is special for Bell. He's from Long Beach. He went to high school about 25 miles from Staples Center. He grew up a Lakers fan. Anytime there's a homecoming game, a player wants to perform well. Bell didn't check in until the fourth quarter. He played seven minutes and went 1 of 5 on field-goal attempts.

I remember a conversation I had with Bell last season. The Warriors were about to play the Bulls, and Lauri Markkanen was leading all rookies in minutes. Bell and Markkanen were both Pac-12 guys and in the same NBA draft class. I asked Bell if he'd rather play more minutes on a struggling team or get fewer minutes on a great team like the Warriors. He said he'd rather be with the Warriors. I wonder if Bell was thinking about this during the championship parade.

Bell sees the big picture. Part of that big picture is recognizing where he is in the pecking order.

@evevsworld Hi Kerith! Can you tell us what the "booster" chairs do for the players physically? More players seem to be using them on the bench. Thanks from Concord, MA!

The boosters are big foam blocks that some of the players sit on while they're on the bench. The bench seats are low, so the players sit on the blocks to be more comfortable and get better alignment for their ankles, knees and backs. One of the Warriors' trainers described it as a yoga block for NBA players. Without it, tall guys might sit awkwardly with their knees up to their elbows.

@dartcatcher What is the favorite travel time-eater on road trips?#askKerith

For me, the routine is regular because it's a work trip. It typically goes get off the plane, bus to practice, bus to the hotel, workout, eat, study game notes, sleep. Wake up, shoot-around, eat, game. We might have 36 to 48 hours in a city. I might disappoint people with this boring answer, but that doesn't leave much time for sight-seeing or visiting friends.

When I do get a moment, I like to go to museums or walk around the cities. Most of the downtown areas we see have historic landmarks.

As far as what the players do, they often stick to a routine that adds in massages or other treatments. Some have business meetings or charity events they do on the road. They might golf or hit up their favorite local restaurants. They also take time with their families when they can. The L.A. trip was a big one for families.

In one of the most foolish “conservative” gambits we’ve seen since the final days of the 2016 Republican primaries, four hack Republicans have joined forces to defeat “an empty faith led by a bogus prophet.”

George Conway (husband of Kellyanne), Steve Schmidt (an MSNBC hack who has been railing against Trump from day one), John Weaver (a Kasich campaign alum), and Rick Wilson (same bio as Schmidt) wrote an op-ed in The New York Times on Tuesday to announce their big plans.

“Patriotism and the survival of our nation in the face of the crimes, corruption and corrosive nature of Donald Trump are a higher calling than mere politics,” they wrote, adopting the apocalyptic tone that has worked so well for Democrats. “As Americans, we must stem the damage he and his followers are doing to the rule of law, the Constitution and the American character.

“That’s why we are announcing the Lincoln Project, an effort to highlight our country’s story and values, and its people’s sacrifices and obligations. This effort transcends partisanship and is dedicated to nothing less than preservation of the principles that so many have fought for, on battlefields far from home and within their own communities,” they continued.

Oh, yes, you can already taste the freedom of nonpartisanship wafting off their collective efforts, can’t you? Why, it was obvious just from their opening statement, when they warned us that the defeat of Trump is essential for the “survival of our nation.” Can you even imagine what would have happened to the United States if Ukraine had never gotten their $300 million?

Oh, nothing? Nothing at all?

“Over these next 11 months, our efforts will be dedicated to defeating President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box and to elect those patriots who will hold the line. We do not undertake this task lightly, nor from ideological preference. We have been, and remain, broadly conservative (or classically liberal) in our politics and outlooks. Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain, but our shared fidelity to the Constitution dictates a common effort,” they wrote.

Sorry, but you cannot claim to be even “broadly” conservative and support anything the national Democrats are up to these days. Even Joe Biden, the candidate everyone points to when they want to assure us that the Democratic Party hasn’t gone completely off the rails, would be the most liberal president this country has had in half a century. What damage could Trump do in the next four years that could even compare to letting these jokers back into power?

To the extent that these loons can be taken seriously, they are a poison to our politics and they are traitors to conservatism. Hopefully, they put a lot of their own money into this PAC. Financial bankruptcy would perfectly match their intellectual states.
