what r ur thoughts about mel in general

Honestly, I was always under the impression that Vander parented them "indirectly", if that makes sense. Like, Vander parented Vi, and Vi took those lessons and parented the others with them, because Vander simply didn't have the time to do so himself, and Vi was basically his mini-me.

Even prior to season 2, when I saw how the previous League bio for Warwick, implied his only memory of his past life was Powder (it says all he remembers is a little girl screaming a name- aka Powder screaming for Vi), that kind of confused me. Because on one hand, yes they're both his daughters and it's his final on-screen moment in season 1, but on the other, it felt thematically odd.

Like, he's supposed to be "dead"/unconscious by then. So wouldn't it make more sense if his final memory is of Vi screaming and crying over him? Also, considering Powder wasn't even crying over Vander- it's weird to me that his final memory is about an experience he isn't really a part of. It's Vi and Powder's scene, not Vander's and Powder's or Vander's and Vi's, so why would we want that to be his only memory?

Safe to say, as much as I thought it was sweet that they had a moment of recognition in season 2 (though I do have to wonder why seeing him like that didn't trigger Jinx at all), it definitely felt off to me. Especially since we never got to see Powder/Jinx have any real positive relationships with anyone other than Vi (before Silco), seeing her and Vander being so connected after his transformation didn't feel earned. Any affection she might've had for her previous family (and them for her) prior to Warwick nearly killing her is left entirely up to the audience to infer, which isn't really a good choice for a scene that you want to be emotional for EVERYONE. If his return is supposed to be inarguably a good thing, why leave the context behind it entirely ambiguous?

Especially when they already have a character set up for this exact kind of bittersweet moment: Vi. The focus on Jinx in the Dad Rescue Arc would make way more sense to me if Silco was the one being brought back. It really should've been Vi taking the lead on this one, which would've perfectly handled the "we don't know what to do with her anymore LMAO" thing Linke was talking about. (Honestly, I'm personally of the opinion that we shouldn't have had a Vander-Returns-Arc at all, considering the lack of time and simultaneous lack of substance both this arc and this entire season had, but I'd do anything to give Vi something to fucking do). OP is 100% correct, Vi should've been the one to grab Jinx and hit her with the "he was your dad too" line. Could've especially been potent if Jinx was all, "why couldn't it have been Silco?" about the whole thing, maybe even making digs at Vi at first when she tells her Vander's back (doing a "looks like crazy runs in the family" line or something), leading to some conflict between them at first, before Vi dishes out that line and perhaps a heartfelt "trust me just this once, just one last time" (or something to that affect). Which would work on Jinx IMO, because as we've established, as angry as she is with Vi, her willpower might as well be wet paper when it comes to trying to "hate" her sister.

If anything, this arc probably should've centered more around how the sisters still love each other, rather than their dads tbh. Vi obviously loves Vander, just as Jinx loves Silco, but I feel it's pretty clear they BOTH prioritize each other over everyone else, even still. Yeah yeah, Vi hit Powder, Yada yada- but think about it for a second. If all of this still happened, but this time it was, say, Mylo that did all this, blowing up their family etc. Etc.- do you seriously think Vi would have forgiven him for it? Do you think she'd desperately chase after him the way she chases Jinx, if Mylo ignored her orders and gotten Powder killed? This would be entirely different story, because Vi would've probably beaten Mylo to death, actually. She wouldn't have held back and walked away the way she did for Jinx in act 1 of season 2. She wouldn't be crying and bargaining with Mylo at that dinner party- she'd be straining against the ropes so she could strangle him with them. I'd say the same goes for anyone that isn't Jinx. Even Vander- even if she couldn't kill him, she'd never forgive him. He'd be dead to her in all the ways that matter.

Hence, this arc (imo) should've looked more like the sisters lowkey using Vander as a vehicle/excuse for their reunion. Like, Vi being so eager and happy to have Vander back because yes, she loves him and missed him, but also, it's one less reason for her to be mad at Jinx. One less reason her sense of duty would have to pit them against each other. If Vi could wave her hand and bring them all back, I'm convinced her first thought would be, "now we can move on, now I'm not obligated to oppose her." Because I genuinely believe the only thing really holding her back at this point is this idea of "I have to do what's 'right'." She was ready to move past this even before Vander came back as a furry, now she just has an excuse to show up unannounced at Jinx's door. And Jinx, too, being as obsessed with Vi's affection as she still is, would probably make some jabs and generally be distrustful, but the entire time she's still going along. The opportunity is too good to pass up. The chance to have Vi back is too tantalizing, is quite literally exactly what she's always wanted, even now, even after all this time. She'd take it, and as soon as she got a taste of that affection again, the soft smiles and the fond gazes, maybe even an instinctual pat on the shoulder, done before Vi even has time to consider if she should do that or not- it's a done deal. She'll still be insecure, in need of constant reassurance- but she'd be too eager to really be cautious, desperately seeking more and more of it.

As would Vi, who'd be over the moon to be able to hold a conversation with her sister again that wasn't laced with constant insults and hostility. It'd be almost like they're kids again, before everything went to hell in a handbasket, just them (and their dad) in a dingy old bar. As long as they ignored all the fur, of course.

TLDR basically I hijacked this to say I agree 100% with OP and think this arc was emotionally/thematically dodgy in several ways, which I explore a little in this reblog.

Jinx just never really liked Vander that much.

One of the things that, to me, seemed like a main theme in Jinx's arc in season 1 was the contrast between her two families, and how her switch from Vander's daughter to Silco's drastically changes the way her personality takes shape.

And I hate that the fandom, and now the show, too, has reduced Silco to an unhealthy influence in Jinx's life, pushing her towards her "bad" side (being Jinx) when, for all his flaws... he gives her a better childhood than she ever had with Vander. The first three episodes of the first season, to me, when I watched them, illustrate quite clearly that Powder feels unhappy in her family life. She is the most mal-adjusted of Vander's kids. Her older brother constantly berates her, and it's quite clearly having a big effect on her self-image. She later takes up the Jinx name and persona once she feels like she has become irredeemable as a person. Her other brother never defends her. Vi is the only one who is there for her, and they care for each other, but at the same time you can see there's still a little insecurity in their relationship. Vi is worried that maybe Powder is indeed too weak, and Powder worries that maybe Vi does indeed see her as a Jinx like her brother does.

And when it comes to Vander... he's just not really all that present in her life. And I don't blame him, the man has four kids to take care of, on top of keeping things running in the Undercity. It's clearly not his intention. But it doesn't change the fact that he's not there for Powder, not as much as she needs. To me, when I watched the first season, it seemed like Vander was a figure that felt far away to Powder, someone that she admired but also feared being completely herself around, and someone that she ultimately wished to be closer to than she actually was. It's worth mentioning that Jinx never says his name post time skip, and he is not a hallucination for her, not until Vi brings him up in the finale. Hell, Claggor is somehow a hallucination for her and he never even speaks. Vander was just not an influential figure in Jinx's life.

I always found the scene at the end of ep3 of s1 fascinating, because Powder never once mourns Vander. She never once cries for him and never once says his name. When she sees his dead body, she becomes shocked and starts crying, but it's not actually what breaks her. What breaks her is Vi's rejection. Had it just been that she accidentally caused the deaths of her brothers and adoptive father, she would not have crumbled mentally. It's Vi's rejection that destroys her. Now, of course, a little girl that cares more about her sister's affection towards her than the lives of her family members is kinda messed up, but that's what makes her character interesting. And we can see that that little girl doesn't go anywhere, as Jinx displays the exact same one-mindness about her sister. Because Jinx and Powder were never really that different, after all.

She is quite clearly placed with her back to Vander's body, that she never turns to, barely looks at, only enough to recognize him and see he's dead, and never says the name of. She's turned towards Vi, calling for Vi, crying because of Vi, and no one else. Heck, Vi had just been crying over his body a few moment ago. Vi is clearly distraught over his death. Vi is devastated, she literally punches her sister and curses her in the exact worst possible way she can, in the way she know it will hurt her sister the most. But Powder... she just honestly dgaf.

So to then hear Jinx say this line in season 2...

...is just straight up jarring. I was pulled out of the story when I heard this. This is Jinx saying this to Vi. This kinda makes it seem like it was Jinx who was most attached to Vander, or at least that she was just as attached to him as Vi was. Which is just not how things seemed in the story at literally any point until this one. And then season 2 continues this way, and somehow makes Jinx seem like the closest daughter to Vander. Flipping Warwick literally acts more attached to Jinx than Vander ever did to Powder. Like literally. Season 1 clearly sets up that Vi is the favorite daughter, and then they just... flip it?? Warwick cares more for Jinx and responds better to her than to Vi. It's actually insane. It's true they sanitized Jinx's character to hell and back this season, but this is a straight-up rewrite. I can't wrap my mind around why they did this. Plus, the entirety of act 2 they set up this weird and pointless arc of Jinx rekindling her relationship with Vander or something... and like literally her story was genuinely never about that.

(This COULD have been Vi's story. And that might have actually been cool, and made sense. Maybe Vi is the one who finds him, and she is the one who helps him calm down. And then she brings Jinx, and maybe Jinx is terrified because she was never that close to Vander, and then she literally killed him, so seeing him again is the last thing she wants. Maybe VI is the one who tells Jinx that "he was your dad, too", which would make A LOT more sense, and maybe that's the first time that Jinx thinks that oh, yeah, he was... And then maybe they have a cute moment where Vander forgives her. Or maybe she sees the state he's in right now and loses it completely. Or maybe they look at each other and they both see the monster each of them has become. And then maybe Vi looks down at the enforcer uniform she's wearing, and, privately, sees it too. Idk. The things we could have had.)

Silco was actually a good dad to Jinx, in all the ways that Vander wasn't. He gives her all the attention that she never had before. He not only listens to her, but actively asks for her side of the story. He never insults her, and he defends her against Sevika. He trusts her and gives her opportunities to prove she's capable. She goes from being one of four siblings, and getting lost in the shuffle and often ending up feeling forgotten and alone, to being the most important child, always taken into consideration and almost put on a pedestal by her dad (this, like, has to have cured some inner wounds, i think).

Silco understands Jinx better than any other character in the show, and I'm genuinely sad that we didn't get to see any flashback of Jinx growing up with him. Because their relationship was so unique, and so integral to Jinx's character and to the rest of the story, that the fact that we never get to see any other glimpse into their bond is just...

As a final note, I'd also like to add that I dislike when people say that Silco "groomed" Jinx. I think a much more realistic analysis is that he enabled her. And as for all the times he tells Jinx that Vi "betrayed her", that's just a reflection of his own trauma, and also because he fears that if Jinx knew Vi was alive, she would go back to her and leave him (which, considering what goes down in the s1 finale, not an unfounded fear). It's wrong that he does that, but it's not out of malicious intent (also tbh Jinx never really seems to believe him anyway).

And for all the people who say that Silco "turned Jinx into a terrorist" (dumbest people in this fandom fr, im sorry), that's just straight up not true. Powder was already like that. That is quite literally why Silco adopts her. Because he sees that she's like him. Silco would not have taken Powder in if he thought she was just a cute, innocent kid who was orphaned (to, what, raise her for years so that, MAYBE when she's older, she MIGHT be useful to him? when they meet he doesn't know she's the one that caused the explosion, he just knows that she's been abandoned by Vi). This is the kid who thought playing around with explosives was a fun hobby. This is the kid who giggled at the thought of hurting others. This is the kid who already suffered from explosive emotions. This is the kid who saw her father and her brothers dead, because of her, and all she cared about was whether her sister was mad at her because of it. This is the kid who throws herself at the first person she sees, someone who her sister hates, who is the cause of all this destruction, and with an anger that shocks most viewers, declares that Vi is not her sister anymore. She is livid in that one moment.

Powder already had it in her from the beginning. And it's also ok to like a character (and to write one) even if they are not 100% morally pure in every single way under the sun, cause that is quite literally what stories are for.

5. do you have any episodes that you just didn't care for that much? honestly, not really. overall i prefer act two to the other acts but i wholeheartedly love each episode. like i've seen this show 197 times, and there really hasnt been an episode that i didn't care for.

7. what character first caught your eye? the first character i ever saw was viktor. he was the reason i even watched the show. it was like three in the morning and i was scrolling aimlessly on instagram and i stumbled upon someones viktor fanart and decided immediately that i had to watch the show.

11. which character design is your favorite? as a jinx girlie, i'm contractually obligated to say jinx. but aside from her, my favorites are mel and sevika. jinx appeals to the part of my brain that loves messy, imperfect characters. her nails are chipped and she has these big, vulnerable eyes that draw you in. she has this like, smudged eyeliner and these little bits of hair that used to be in her braids but have since migrated to her face. i like how messy she looks particularly in act three. and the way she looks as a child speaks to me, from her fucked up hair that she obviously cut herself to the clothes that look like they used to belong to someone else. she reminds me of myself. also i have blue hair and she has blue hair and omg she's just like me fr. mel and sevika are different, in that i don't even remotely see myself in them. i just sincerely think that mel is beautiful, and that sevika is hot. im a very shallow person.

14. which relationship was your favorite? honestly, i know i should say jinx and vi, but jinx and silco really hit me full force in the chest. the fucked up, manipulative relationship between a child and their parent. i cried when silco died, and i cried when silco held her at the end of the first act. he was horrible and evil and he loved her in the fucked up way that someone loves their favorite weapon, their specialist tool. but he also looked at the worst parts of jinx and saw the worst parts of himself and he loved her for that and- its probably very telling that this is my favorite. i also really liked ambessa and mel. bet you cant guess what kind of a childhood i had.

18. what was your favorite emotional scene? the scene where vi leaves powder at the last drop and she has the meltdown. idk it just resonated with me. the fear, the terror at the thought of being abandoned is something i deal with on a semi-frequent basis, and honestly i have a similar reaction to powder. like watching it, hurt me. it was just so visceral and raw.

22. any characters you thought deserved more screen time? singed!! i'm confident that he's going to play a more prominent role in season two, and im glad because i need to know more. tell me about his experiments and his past and his DAUGHTER!!! i mean, i have my theories, but i need to know more! i just know that he has an absolutely juicy backstory, you know. also i think his ideas and philosophies were super interesting and i was a little sad that we didn't get to see more of him and rio. i dont think we saw too little, but it would have pleased me to see more of him. i do think we saw too little of the chem barons, but i care less about them than i do singed.

24. what side characters were your favorite? oh baby i love you forever for asking me this question! my favorite side character is undoubtedly elora, mel's assistant. she's of minimal relevance to the plot but i love her all the same. i don't have a real reason for my attachment to her, i just think she's neat.

26. what are your favorite parallels? im an absolute whore for the parallels between vi and jinx and vander and silco. i think its so interesting to see their similarities, but also how they differ. are they doomed to repeat the sins of their fathers? part of me kind of hopes so.

28. favorite vi scene? the first fight between vi and sevika i think is so interesting. vi sees this woman, who she was so like at one point in time. pre time skip, they both had very similar ideology, in that they both believed in an independent zaun. she sees how much has changed. sevika is a physical representation of the shift that's happened in the lanes whilst vi was in prison. straight away, sevika is presented as arrogant and uncaring, a far cry from the united zaun she wanted in act one. even physically, she has a prosthetic arm powered by shimmer (they weren't exactly subtle about it) a clear sign of her loyalty to silco and vi just loses it. and then at the end where caitlyn saves her and she sees her for who she really is. she's not malicious, she's just some sheltered rich kid. cait cares fiercely about bringing about real, actual justice. yeah i just really like it.

32. were there any moments that really shocked you? the tea party scene in episode nine. maybe a bit basic, i know but the whole scene had this tense, horror movie-esque feel to it. and it wasn't even just the implication of cait's head being on the tray when jinx says "i made her a snack", but the sort of way that she proclaims herself to be "not that crazy" that immediately makes us think the opposite. everything from the scribbles on vi's gauntlets, to the candles and the dummies, to the fact that it's in the last place that vander, claggor and milo were ever alive. and then of course she kills silco and fires a bomb at the council.

39. do you think anything should have played out differently? all in all, i have very few complaints about how the show played out. i think its a masterpiece. i would however have liked to know the fucking name of ambessa medarda's boytoy twink. sorry, it just irks me that i don't know.

51. do you have any characters that you would like to see have a heart to heart? yesss! i would love for viktor and jinx to have a heart to heart about their similar experiences and particularly, i think it would be very fun to see them do science together, particularly after viktor loses his last lab partner to piltover (and his last assistant to being a pile of dust) and i swear i have more articulate thoughts but im writing this and its like 2:15 in the morning. ask me again when im closer to coherence.

52. do you have any characters that you hope take a more serious role? i would love for ekko to have a more serious role, but if it means that i have to suffer through more heimerdinger then its just. i don't want it. i need for the chem barons to be a more active part of the story, and i think they will be, given the power vacuum left after silco's death. i doubt sevika will rise to power, as she's always presented herself as being a independent, but a follower. she followed vander, and when it was convenient to her, she followed silco. she's loyal to her idea of a free zaun, but not enough that i think she would take up that role. sevika knows her strengths, and they don't lie in leadership. i could be wrong tho, but either way i would like her to become more central to the story. i hope that singed takes on a more active role in the plot, for the reasons i said earlier. i just want to sink my teeth into his backstory. and finally i would love for ambessa's twink to take on enough of a role that i would know his name. certainly, he was on an airship.. airship fight.. maybe?? (please)

You know what always, ALWAYS, breaks my heart.

The fact that Jinx truly doesn’t believe she is loved; yet she is one of the most loved people in this entire show. It’s just so fucking tragic that she can’t see that.

Silco and Vi love her so goddamn much.

The climax of season 1, boils down to these two fighting for Jinx to pick them over the other, to stay with with them, be their family. 

Jinx has literally just kidnapped them and shown herself to clearly be a danger to their lives and general safety, and yet….

The thought of losing her is unbearable to both Silco and Vi.

Silco would never have given her up. Never!

This is a man who less than a decade ago, would’ve sacrificed anything and anyone for his cause; but now…

He would burn everything and everyone for his daughter. For her to remain at his side.

She killed him and the most important thing to Silco, in his last moments, was making sure she knew he would have never given her up, that nothing was worth her, to comfort her, and tell her she was perfect.

And Vi. My other poor, tragic and beautiful daughter.

I don’t know how anyone can say Vi doesn’t love her sister. Did you even watch the show?

I think it’s such a misjudgment of Vi’s character that people say because she freezes up and doesn’t try “harder” to reach out to Jinx that she doesn’t love her. 

Because think about that for a second -

Vi who is this seemingly unstoppable force of nature, completely freezes when it comes to Jinx.

She is so scared of losing her sister, of saying or doing the wrong thing, of hurting her again.

Vi blames herself so goddamn much to the point that Vi, VI, who is absolutely defined by her fighter response, just freezes when it comes to Jinx.

These two love Jinx so goddamn much and it breaks my heart how Jinx can’t see that; or at least not until it’s too late.

Then you have Ekko. Forget romantic feelings or crushes; this boy loved his best friend so goddamn much and had so much respect for her; that despite her (from his POV) choosing to be ‘evil,’ still put her on his mural of those he’s lost.

Jinx has killed people on that mural; and yet there is Powder in the center of everyone that Ekko lost that one awful night. She is one of three largest portraits up there. That’s an insane amount of love and respect to give to her; especially considering how their relationship devolved.

And then you get to their fight and Ekko who has been fighting Jinx and Silco for years; who has lost many of his people to them. Who is so angry and filled with pain and hates Jinx...

God, the look on his face when he realizes who he’s hurting, who is underneath him. This poor, beautiful boy goes through like several different stages of shock, pain, and longing in a matter of seconds, when he actually sees Jinx.

Then you have Vander. I know we don’t have much between him and Powder, but I am baffled by the idea that people think Vander didn’t love her.

His last words to Vi were - “Take care of Powder.”

In his dying moments, Vander thought of Powder; she was that important to him.

Now, if he has a few more sentences I’m sure he would’ve also told Vi to not seek revenge on Silco, because he wasn’t worth Vi and Powder’s lives and their safety, as well as reaffirm his love and pride for Vi.

But he didn’t get more time; so he said what was most important to him in that moment - “Take care of Powder.”

Don’t even try to say that Vander didn’t love Powder.

And while we don’t see much of them; you cannot tell me that Claggor and Mylo didn’t love Powder. Yes, even Mylo.

Mylo was an insecure, young boy who took out his anger and frustrations on his younger sister; because she was even more of a weak link than he was and he wanted to feel better about himself.

But, I can’t imagine he would’ve ever wanted to be such a source of pain and torment for her, that Jinx’s Demon!Mylo has become.

And, while we only see a few interactions between them, just the way Claggor looked at Powder tells me that he loved and cared for her.

This girl is so beyond loved (and has been loved) but yet, she can’t see it. Likely because she doesn’t love herself; she has a hard time imagining that someone could love her.

Which again, is just heartbreakingly tragic.

This woman fell like a bag of bricks for you within “a concerningly short amount of time”.

She looks at you like you hung the damn stars in the sky, and if someone told her you did, she would agree…then integrate them for thinking those thoughts about what's hers.

She’s a bit possessive, but understands that you need your freedom, but inside she hopes and prays that you come back to her each night.

She can be self conscious inside, but never tells, so if you can somehow manage to find out about her internal problems and offer help? It’s over for her heart; it just can’t take the kindness anymore.

When no one’s around: give this woman some forehead kisses. When everyone’s around: She’s pulling you into her lap like it’s a throne for you.

Seriously this woman is down bad for you, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you had a passion for the arts, you bet your ass that he would offer to let you design bottle ideas for Shimmer if you felt up for it.

He is a quiet man, and usually only speaks when he deems it relevant or necessary, so I think non verbal signs of love would be a common thing in a relationship with him (Small touches when passing by, hugs at night, saving up to buy your favorite snacks while he makes supply runs in the lanes, and more).

After the explosion leaving him disfigured, I feel like he might be the tiniest bit self conscious, so if you like to give reassuring words, he would melt for you inside even more than he already does. 

This man is willing to take small breaks for you he fucking loves you that much, dude.

He gives me “I eat the same oatmeal for breakfast every morning” and I can easily just imagine him leaving you a small bowl with whatever you like to add to it off to the side so you can dress yours however you like <3

Silco:

This man is working 24/7;  he’s building an empire and a country from scraps, so you are going to have to work with his schedule, not against it.

Don’t get me wrong- he loves you with all of his dark little scarred heart- but he canonically craves loyalty above all else in his affairs (both business and otherwise), so loyalty is going to be a heavy factor in y’alls relationship. 

If you happen to have a more analytical personality, I feel like he would possibly go to you for a second opinion on some of his business choices once you’ve established yourself to be a trusted person in his eyes.

Are you chaotic? No problem, he just plops you with Jinx while he works.

He says that it is because it is easier for him to manage (which isn’t completely untrue) but it’s also because he likes to see his daughter and partner get along. 

Would easily refer to you as his partner in front of others once he’s decided that you should stay, but when you’re both alone the softer pet names come out (“my lovely”,”darling”, “dearest”)

I saw somewhere on here that he would give his partner darker themed nicknames like Belladonna which I completely adore and agree with! (especially that one).

Viktor:

He’s another one who works all the time, but I feel like he would be a bit softer about admitting that he, yet again, has to work on his newest invention late tonight, but he would feel worse about having to stay away from you.

Once you offered to join him in the lab as a compromise so you could see each other, however this resulted in two minor fires, an explosion, and the hex claw getting stuck under the Mercury Hammer that neither of you could lift off of it…

Afterwards it was deemed to be too much of a distraction to Viktor for you to be in his working area for a prolonged period of time because he’s too busy focusing on spending time with you. 

Please bring this man some food every now and then; he legit forgets that he needs to eat to live, and sweetmilk is not a cure all to dehydration.

Speaking of sweet milk, I can picture you during one of your visits to the lab making him laugh so hard that sweetmilk came out of his nose and you and Jayce haven’t let him live it down ;)

Jayce:

Even though most view him as a Himbo, he loves when you remind him of all of his accomplishments every now and again. 

With his seat on the council, this man will spoil the absolute shit out of you. Fine silks? Done. Wine and dined once a week? He’ll find a way to make that happen. And most importantly: financial debts like student loans? Gone bye bye. 

This man is so encouraging of your passions that he will take any chance he can to gush about how talented and amazing you are to him in his eyes.

He genuinely and purely loves you with every fiber of his being, and loves to tell you so any chance he can.

I can also see him as someone who has brunch with you each sunday so you can be up to date with each other no matter how busy your schedules may be.

After finishing two bottles of cheap liquor, you were plastered beside your girlfriend. Who was much better at handling her alcohol, and was only tipsy compared to your inebriated state. Your legs draped over her lap as you laid your head back against the sofa with a sigh.

She was still sipping on her glass, running a hand up and down your leg. You smiled, "Hey, Sev?"

Her brown eyes shifted to meet your e/c ones, "Yes, doll?"

"Do you remember the night we first met?" You asked, sitting up a bit.

It was just another typical day in the fissures. It was filled with trading, getting into a few fights with brawlers that lingered on the streets, and with you on your way to get a drink at the last drop before you headed in for the night.

Sevika chuckled as she played with her glass, "I remember saving your ass."

You were sitting at the bar, a drink in hand as you made small talk with Thieram. Music was blaring throughout the small building, the bass shook the stool you were sitting on. People were dancing on the floor drunkenly, playing their card games at the round tables, enjoying drinks with their friends and partners. Smoke could been seen throughout the whole place from the cigars and shimmer.

Some dude, probably twice your age, came up to you. He begged you to come with him. You said you weren't interested in men before telling him to get lost. That only enraged the man, and resulted him in your face as he started to scream at you. Calling you names. He was close to hitting you before he was suddenly thrown across the bar. The entire bar fell silent as they gathered around him with weapons drawn.

"You did." You smiled, "Everyone always said you were scary, but that night.. It made me see you differently."

Sevika looked down at you, with a very subtle look of concern. It was shocking that to see someone who was so tough, soften towards you. Especially that person being known as the scariest woman in Zaun. Before then, you believed the rumors. That she was not someone to fuck with. But there she was, standing above you with worried eyes. It changed how you saw her. No longer scary, but a protector.

"That never changed. You're lucky you managed to make me go soft on you, I don't let anyone see me the way you do." She told you before slowly taking a sip from her cup.

She ended up having a few drinks with you to make sure no one bothered you for the rest of the night. The two of you hit it off immediately. You spent hours talking to her, telling her about how you grew up on the streets. How your parents had passed away when you were ten so you had been on your own for a long time. That you often snuck up into the upper city to steal items to trade for coins and items. She told you about her as well, how she grew up. Opened up about Vander, and why she made the decision to side with Silco. Even went on a little rant about her annoyance for his daughter, Jinx.

"Oh, please. You're just a giant, sometimes aggressive and murderous teddy bear." You teased with a giggle.

She gave you a look with a raised eyebrow. "And you're lucky I love you because if anyone else called me a teddy bear, my blade would be in their chest."

[OK so I have a ridiculous amount of Arcane AU ideas thought up. So I'm gonna start posting them.]

AU where the Vander v Silco fight/attempted homiecide/messy divorce happens like a week before the bridge incident. Silco isn't even fully healed when he hears of the peaceful bridge protest going horribly wrong, but he rushes off to see if everyone (cough, Vander, cough) was okay.

And on that bridge he stumbles upon two recently orphaned kids about to be shot by an enforcer. He saves these kids by killing the enforcer with like a scalpel or whatever that he stole off Singed. He then notices the two dead people nearby who look like these kids and despite how cold-hearted he tries to be, his heart wrenches at the sight of the eldest kid just completely breaking down (so much like Vander had all those years ago-)

So he takes these two kids back to Singed's lab, his home-base at the moment. As he walks plans form in his mind, and he notes uncomfortably that most of them centre around manipulating the shit out of these kids.

And yeah he'll do it, but like it takes him maybe six months to get irrevocably attached to these two little demon spawn, and most of those plans are thrown right tf out.

Silco at first manipulates them to hate Piltover with a passion, but he ends up caring for them like his daughters. He's not a good man or father, but he tries his best. The three trauma bond and form a codependency on each other.

They love each other, don't get me wrong, but it's toxic. Their entire relationship is hella unhealthy.

Silco projects himself and the Vander he loved on them a lot, leading to them being different from their canon selves.

Well, Powder ends up much the same just with less psychosis as she doesn't accidentally kill her entire family.

Vi however is different, and not in a good way. Silco twists her good heart into pure hatred for the topside and for Vander + his supporters, and exacerbates her battlelust.

So you have Powder, Silco's youngest daughter and demolitions expert, and Vi, Silco's eldest daughter and right hand. Both can and will fuck you up, and if they fail Silco will not. Everyone in Zaun knows them, and knows to stay out of their way.

Anyway TL;DR it's an AU where instead of Vander taking Vi and Powder from the bridge that day, it's Silco.

Bonus:

lmao just imagine sevika defects from vander, expecting to do something worthwhile at silco's side, and the first thing the man orders her to do is teach Vi how to fight properly.

so sevika is forced to teach this 14 year old how not to fight like a drunken brawler.

but then powder also wants to join in so now sevika has to show a 9 year old how to punch without breaking her fingers.

all while silco watches.

“Jinx, for the last time, it doesn’t concern you.” Silco sat with his head in his hand, leaning away from the desk. Jinx had her feet on his chair and her head rested on his shoulder.

“Come on! You’ve been such a hard ass lately and they’ve been mopey and jumpy. It’s obvious you did something.” Jinx played with the eye injection in her hand, twirling it between her fingers.

“Me? Why would you assume it’s my fault?” He reminded himself that he loved having a clever, observing daughter, even if she stuck her nose in his business.

“Do you think the naïve, sweet as frosting lockpick could do anything wrong? Plus, you’re just acting guilty. If they fucked up, you’d have them killed.”

Silco stopped himself before saying anything, choosing to sigh instead. “How are they doing?”

“Why don’t you just ask them?”

“Jinx, would you just—”

“They’re fine. I mean, as fine as they can be. Functioning. The kitchen staff has been grateful since they clean the dishes instead of sleeping. Also changed the locks two or three times and fixed almost every squeaky door hinge. The filing room has never been cleaner, you can actually see the flo—”

“Thank you, Jinx.” Silco laid back in the chair and placed a light kiss on the crown of the blue haired girl. Jinx sat up and placed the injection in his eye, helping him through the pain.

“Well, I have a magic show to plan for and a lockpick I need to interrogate for answers.” She slid off the desk and skipped out.

It was quiet for a few moments before Silco let out a sigh.

The Industrialist could not care at all for the meeting at hand.

Chem Barons discussing what they wanted, what they felt they deserved, and what they felt they didn’t owe.

These meetings had been much more bearable with you here, Silco thought. It was entertaining to watch you try and pay attention, fighting off sleep as Finn droned on and on. Now it felt like a punishment as he wrestled with keeping himself awake.

Sevika had made a point that you would be too anxious to fix whatever happened, not even fully understanding what you did wrong. It’s not even that you did anything wrong, it’s that Silco is emotionally inert as the golden armed criminal put. Silco would have to offer an olive branch first in some way, no matter how small, to get you to bite.

While considering what options he had, Sevika burst through the door with paper in her hand. Everything came to a halt, Finn shutting his stupid golden jaw. Had she forgotten that the meeting was happening? Not that it mattered, it was going nowhere fast. She looked apprehensive as she hastily made her way to Silco’s desk. The note in her hand had terrible handwriting but clearly had your name on it so the Kingpin picked it up and read it as fast as he could.

“Silco,

I have your special lockpick. I am going to make them suffer for how you ruined my operation.”

The note went on but Silco could only see red. “Everyone out!” The Chem Barons scattered, no one daring to challenge Silco when he was this pissed. “Where did you get this?”

“Hand delivered by a street rat. Didn’t give a name.”

“I have no doubt in my mind that it’s Hank or whatever his name is. He was especially pissed after I stopped him from scamming us and I believe he blamed the lockpick. Hank isn’t entirely unwise, producing a plan that would affect me.” Silco crumpled up the paper in his hand, unable to hold back his wrath. “Foolish enough to start a war with me, though.”

Jinx strolled in. “What’s all the commotion? Also, have you seen—”

“They’ve been taken.”

She blinked, surprised at how quickly Silco had answered her. “What?”

Silco handed her the note, not bothering to smooth it out. “Do you know Hank’s warehouse location? I know he only has one. It must be where he took them.”

“Yeah, it’s not too far from the market… shit, that’s where they took them. They were headed there not too long ago.”

“Sevika, gather some men. We have work to do.”

Sevika nodded in response and headed for the door.

When they were close to the warehouse, Silco got Sevika’s attention. “Kill Hank once we have my lockpick. Should have done it before but…”

“Yeah, yeah, you’ve gone soft. Leave it to me.”

Silco rolled his eyes before watching as his men moved forward, taking down the poor security Hank had set up.

Normally, he would enjoy watching his power at work, taking over what was rightfully his. This time, though, it was not a show of strength but a lesson to be taught. The uncertainty of your condition left him hesitant, unable to keep his emotions off his face without effort.

When one of his men alerted him that it was all clear, Silco sprinted inside, following the direction to where they had found you. The henchmen didn’t look Silco in the face which only made him more worried.

When Silco got to your body, lying helplessly on the ground, he wasn’t sure he could breathe anymore. You had been beaten up in the face and were pale. He gently put a hand on your forehead before he slid it to support your head from the ground. Silco called your name a few times before your eyes actually opened.

“Good, stay with me, stay with me. What hurts? Did they give you poison?” When you didn’t register anything, he panicked harder but attempted to stay calm. Silco switched tactics, asking simpler questions. “What did they do?”

Your voice was rough, like you were talking through molasses. “They gave… me something like a truth serum… but with shimmer. I didn’t… I don’t think I gave anything away. It really only made me say what came to my head first before I could think of it.”

“So, not much change from normal,” he quipped before he realized this was not the time. Silco was elated to hear your voice.

“I was a little bit more of a dick, I think.”

He undid the restraints and stood. “We’re going to get you out of here, don’t worry. Can you walk? You barely seem coherent enough to know I’m even talking to you.” He watched as you struggled to stand, knowing the answer to his question.

 “I… I want to say that I can walk out of here on my own and show how strong I am, but I can’t get my legs to work so I’ll need help to leave quickly.” You looked at him sheepishly and it almost hurt him. Even now you fought against the idea that you could ask for help, that you could rely on him. Silco quickly let you lean on him before lifting you up, bridal style. He recalled an earlier time when you had requested Sevika carry you like this, so Silco hoped he would do in this situation. Sevika was busy.

Silco gave orders to raid the place to some of the other men, though it didn’t look like it had many resources, and to rally back at The Last Drop. He was on a mission to bring you home as soon as possible.

When you placed your nose in the crook of his neck, his footsteps slowed a bit and he chastised himself for it. How can you be so distracting? Silco almost missed the small “… always wears nice clothes…” you mumbled because of his thoughts. He chuckled, unable to help himself. The effect you had on him.

Oh, what he wouldn’t give to capture the moment you realized you had said it out loud.

“Do you know how unfair this is?” You pathetically punched his chest, Silco almost telling you to not waste your energy but you continued. “I barely have a filter to stop my thoughts but now I don’t even have that. Nothing to stop me from saying how badly I want you to notice me. How I want to be near you all the time. How handsome you are. Scars are thought of as ugly, makes you scary but there is beauty in danger. I lose myself to the all-consuming chaos in your eyes. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I’m rewarded with a smile from you, especially the ones you hope no one sees. I’m so happy you came but I also feel crushed because I failed you again. Hurts so much. Or that’s the shimmer.” You stopped to take in a few breaths, feeling winded. Silco had absolutely nothing to say, no words came to his mind. No one had ever said anything so sweet, so close to a love confession to him since he was younger. If he wasn’t already emotionally fried, he would have short circuited right then and there. “Maybe both but likely the drug. I’ve never felt so strongly about anyone… before…”

“No no no no no! Stay with me! Stay awake! Damn it!” He moved his feet as fast as he could.

i finished arcane here are some thoughts

things i liked:

not an original thought but the art and animation ruled... easily the best part of the show. i think if you have any passing interest in animation it's worth watching just for that

tons of the character designs are very sexy thank you video games

i took some time to settle into the cast and world building but by the end was fairly attached to and/or compelled by most of our major players. vi, cait, viktor, ekko and silco were the standouts for me. i also like sevika but wish she got more to do? what's ur deal sevika. i have questions. also you're super hot

i was prepared (thank you twitter) for vi and cait to not be the centre stage of the whole show but i do wish we'd seen more of them and had more episode with them together, to make it pay off better

i only started paying attention after i saw that "men or women?" gifset and i gotta say vi and cait... like... are they my new favourite OTP? no. did i have fun watching all of their scenes? yes

viktor is one of those obvious fan favourite characters from the second he appears on screen but i am a fan and he was a favourite

i liked silco a lot, i thought he was very compelling and i really liked his fucked up relationship with jinx. great. sometimes you're a ruthless slum kingpin and also you love your violent adopted daughter a lot

the viktor/jayce/mel storyline works sooo much better as (and is clearly... portrayed as...) a bisexual love triangle. wish the show had leaned into that instead of no homoing it with that "like a brother" line flhghg hello?? mid-seasons we were just like jayce now you're being a bad boyfriend to two people :/

everything needs more bisexual drama tho so i was here for it

the crazy dinner scene with jinx and co was fun. i liked the juxtaposition being like... not clear cut? i mean obviously silco is a terrible person in general and vi has done nothing wrong ever in her life, but to jinx specifically it was just... two family members who genuinely care about her. (and cait who does not want to marry into this family.) she instantly regrets killing silco but would've instantly regretted killing vi. you played yourself jinx

things i did not like:

it was not lost on me as a veteran of fandom that the show kind of... set mel up for failure by giving her the role it did. i mean i haven't looked at the tag yet so maybe fandom will pleasantly surprise me but uh, i doubt it, lmao

it was also not lost on me that the no-name lovesick girl who gets obliterated by viktor was also black

i thought it was out of character for vi to be pretty callous about that kid jayce killed... would street orphan vi really be that ambivalent to killing a street orphan just because he """worked for""" silco? hello...? hes like five? aren't you trying to save your terrorist sister? ??

caitlin's police outfit w the tight skirt etc sucks lmfao thank you video games

i mentioned it earlier when i was watching but most of this felt like familiar stuff remixed a little. this isn't necessarily bad, but sometimes it fell flat when a character or situation invoked something else that i like better. for eg jinx and harley quinn

heimerdinger bored me i would like to excise all of his screentime and give it to someone else. when jayce in the council meeting was like "you've been president or whatever for 500 years and shit sucks" like. yeah honestly dude !!!

i couldn't decide what category to put jinx in. i didn't... like her, exactly; i found her writing and some of the performance a bit tedious. i guess i liked her function in the narrative though

i think part of it was the show's quandary over whether powder is still "alive" or not and whether vi was "responsible" or not etc... i can buy that vi feels responsible for what happened but vi truly did nothing wrong LMAO sorry she lost her temper for 20 seconds after her sister killed their whole family ...

again i don't really hold it against jinx specifically but sometimes i found the narrative a bit muddy on that when i feel uh. very clear that it was not remotely vi's fault.

jinx played the villain route of telltale batman episode 5 and was like I Can Do That

I wish you hadn't hidden this behind a reading break, because everyone needs to read it, and you'd catch more people with the gifs and all... This needs to be read, and said, and heard...

I've been baffled, personally, by people who have called Silco abusive. I come from a family that was abusive. I ran away, have been no contact for over 10 years now. I never got enough money to get any form of therapy.

Watching Arcane I saw nothing but love. Often sad love, because it's indeed twisted by circumstances. It's sad that Silco's first reaction upon hearing Vi is in town isn't to talk to her but to kill her. She's too much like Vander, and Jinx is still raw from someone who *looked* like her, let alone be her. His protective papa mode is just... that of the violent extremist he is.

People must have had seriously blessed childhood to see this much love and care and not feel borderline envious. Gee I wish I'd have such a loving relationship with my dad that I could tell him about being badly triggered, be listened to, tolerated without rebuff through an episode of whatever the "eccentricity" she displays is... and given loving advice.

Even when Silco is deeply upset, when Jinx killed enough people that none of the puritains hating on Silco ought to like her anymore either (because IRL killing 6 people in a bombing is pretty fucking vile, isn't it??), potentially tanking decades of zealous work... His only violent gesture is to grab the pen from Jinx's hands.

She doesn't shirk away. Doesn't flinch. This man has never hit or hurt her in any shape or form she doesn't even know to expect it. She doesn't justify herself or look sheepish. She waits for him to be done to surprise him...

Y'all don't know what an abusive relationship looks like if you think this is what a kid behaves like when their abusive father screams at them (for committing mass murder, kek)

I'm pretty sure that if therapy were a thing, Silco would send Jinx to it. She's his darling. He clearly hates seeing her being in pain. There's nothing in his character on screen that shows he'd do anything to keep Jinx the way she is if he had a better alternative. The "baptism" scene is explicitly a home made attempt at a therapy session.

Also, regarding the weapon...

A father asking his daughter and most trusted confident and ally in a struggle that governed his entire life... Is not abusive?

You know what's abusive? A father keeping you locked in the living room day after day during your holiday until you know your multiplication tables by heart.

Silco needs a weapon like a small country/rebel cell might need nukes to be respected by a much larger enemy. He's close to a tipping point that could ruin everything or get the freedom he's dreamt of and worked for his entire life. Pushing Jinx a little isn't being abusive, especially not in the scale of things. You have to consider in Silco's mind a free Zaun is also a gift to Jinx.

Vi wanted the same for her. She also wanted Powder to have a "better world". As Silco puts it, she deserves better than "Piltover's runoff."

But she's also an adult. Trusted with guns and dangerous missions and left to act on her own devices, at her own discretion. Sure, Zaunite children grow up too fast. Take it to the Piltover Council. jinx WANTS to help and be useful, and perceived as strong. Silco needs her and lets her do it. It's a win/win to them, and they're working together on a goal that will be neat benefit for Jinx, as far as Silco sees it.

Let’s talk about Silco’s parenting.

An essay. Because the internet is stupid. The meta is going to touch on the question of manipulation (a commonly raised but moot point), the concept of “good” parenting versus “perfect” parenting, his relationship with Vander, as well as a double standard I see with traumatized people both in fiction and in real life.
