This may be an unpopular opinion, but...
As much as I love BarclayPierce, I don't necessarily want them to be canon in the franchise.
Don't get me wrong, I am desperate for them to interact more in the show. Teaming up and becoming friends after they knew about each other for so long and never got to meet but I would rather see them interact as friends and then read into the performances.
This is because after looking back on the entire franchise I have come to a conclusion:
Don Mancini can not write a healthy romantic relationship to save his life.
Think about it:
Chiffany speaks for itself.
Andy's foster parents in CP2 weren't too bad if it wasn't for the fact that Phil was an asshole (at least in my opinion).
Andy and Kristen in CP3 were sweet, but realistically, it was a teenage crush, and we know for a fact didn't last for whatever reason.
Jesse and Jade seemed cute on the surface but then instantly started accusing the other of murder with no evidence.
Barb and Ian's marriage was obviously awful, and by extension, so was Barb and Jill's since Barb was cheating, and they both knew it.
Both Lexy and Junior's parents' relationship was toxic in a way, with Michelle and Logan being narcissists and constantly ignoring or shutting down their sposes opinions.
Lexy and Junior's relationship was pretty similar, too, with Junior even admitting that he was afraid of Lexy.
Jake and Devon started off cute, but as I've said before, with all the conflict in Season 2, it seems that they are more in love with their idea of the other person rather than the person themselves. Even in season 3, we haven't really seen them emotionally connect, it just keeps being overly sexualized scenes (which is a whole other conversation)
Grant and Lexy (if they count) it is basically all manipulation since Lexy apparently can't stand Grant and is only pretending to like him to get to Chucky, with it only hinting that her opinion may have changed on him after he opened up about losing his brother. (Let's not even start about the fact that Jackson was 22 and Alyvia was 15 when they filmed that kiss scene.)
And finally, James and Charlotte Collins, where it has been revealed that James has previously cheated on Charlotte and she is still with him even after finding out.
I'm not even counting Niffany as a relationship since it is purely Tiffany abusing Nica.
So, yeah. Personally, I don't trust Don to not mess BarclayPierce up if he did decide to make them canon so I would rather get excited about their little friendly interactions and see what Alex and Fiona would do with their performances.

James to Cordelia, Circa 1904
Daisy, my Daisy,
When I was a boy, I recall asking my father whether love was supposed to hurt. He said yes, said that we suffered for love because love was worth it.
I misunderstood. Angel, I misunderstood.
Because while love is supposed to be the most exquisite pain that breaks down your walls and sands your edges down to smoothness, it also is intended to rebuild. To create. To inspire. And what I feel for you makes me feel like a new man each say. When I see you, your red hair loose before a fire that cannot hope to burn as brightly as the passion you ignite within me, I feel myself being reshaped into something better, kinder, fiercer.
When I see myself reflected in your stubborn and brave eyes, I am more than simply James Herondale, the boy who has eternally felt like a lesser version of my father's shining star. I feel like a proud man, the sort that could inspire hope in the heart of the bravest and most ferocious warrior I have ever known.
Love doesn't hurt. Not truly. Love helps you to reshape yourself, to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix when you break. Love only hurts insofar as it subsumes all other things, makes you its servant. As you have made me yours.
Daisy. You once said that the nickname made you sound as though you were a pretty little girl in pigtails, but that is not what I think of when I hear it. I think of a brave girl who once saved a life in a field of flowers, and of the stunning woman that she grew into. I have spent my life thinking that I ought to be the star, but in reality, I realise nw that I was put here to help you burn, to help you smolder, to help you light the match that saved the world. And there is no purpose I would rather serve. I love you, Cordelia Katayoun Carstairs. More than I have ever loved anything.
The idea that I once called you nothing more than a friend is laughable. Though you are a friend to me - the best I have ever known - my feelings go beyond the feasible boundaries of what friendship could be. For you, I am undone. For you, I am remade. And for you, I would gladly be rebuilt over and over.
Every day. For the rest of my life. With you by my side, I look forward to each one.
With the most profound, painless, perfect love,
Your James

I'm assuming (again pls correct me if i'm wrong! :D<3) that ur fav shadowhunter character is Jem!
Would you mind indulging me as to why u love him and his character arc throughout the series? 😊
I am finally attacking this question. I took some time answering it because I wanted to give it justice. Now, bear in mind, that it’s been a while since my last read of TID/GotSM, and I forgot a lot about the series. I will try to give my best answer (and probably come back to this when I will do my huge reread of the whole series before TWP).
First, I want to clarify that Jem is one of my favourite characters in the series, but not the only one. I could write the same about Will and Tessa. Like, I’m a real herongraystairs trash and the main reason why I continue with the series. I don’t know why, but they stuck with me. I think it’s assumed that Jem is my only fav because of my username, but no, the username was a joke that stuck, and I don’t mind, because I am his bitch, and it made CC giggle when I told her, and according to her, aren’t we all😭
Now, before going to the essay, I would like to say contrary to a lot of the fandom (who like Jem or dislike him), I do not think we have a lot of him. I think he is the most present character, yet, we still know so little of him.
Hear me out, he is the only protagonist with zero POV, in his series, (we got Cecy’s POV in CP2, and she arrived in the epilogue of book 2). Even in GotSM, which is supposed to be a book about Zachariah, and his mission to find the lost Herondale, he still gets sidelined to follow the stories of other characters (Matthew, Anna, Tessa, Celine, Jace, Alec, Livvy and Janus). Zachariah is used as a vehicle to tell us about the other characters' stories, and sometimes we get a glimpse of what he thinks and feels. I would argue that the only real story where we dive into his head, and get to know him is Learn About Loss. Add to the fact that in TID we only see him through the eyes of Will and Tessa, yeah, he’s the character with the most cameos with Magnus, yet what do we know about Jem, other than he is the 3rd person in a love triangle, Will’s parabatai, and Tessa’s second love interest, AND that he is the kindest, selfless character in the series? Practically nothing.
Like I said above, in TID, we only see him through the eyes of Will and Tessa, who literally see him as this perfect, angelic person. Tessa because she arrives at the institute after 6 weeks of torture, and is in need of kindness and friendship, and eventually falls in love with him. And then we have Will, who sees Jem as his opposite, everything that is pure and kind, and everything that he is not. And because of the inevitable death of Jem and his curse, this bond is what keeps him alive, and he will cherish it like hell (one day I will write an essay on the terms and conditions Will put on his “curse” when he was a kid). So yeah, we have a series written through two protagonists, who see the third as this precious thing, that needs the utmost protection against the world, but also against themselves; see Tessa once she arrived, she started talking about finding cures and defending him against Will, in CP1:
- “You should,” Tessa said softly, “think about the way the things you do affect Jem.”
Will rolled his head back against the leather of the chair and regarded her. He looked drowsy and tired and beautiful. He could have been some Pre-Raphaelite Apollo. “Is this a serious conversation now, Tess?” His voice still held humor but was edged, like a gold blade edged in razored steel.
Tessa came and sat down in the armchair across from his. “Aren’t you worried that he’s cross with you? He’s your parabatai. And he’s Jem. He’s never cross.
“Perhaps it’s better that he’s cross with me,” said Will. “So much saintlike patience cannot be good for anyone.”
“Do not mock him.” Tessa’s tone was sharp.
“Nothing is beyond mockery, Tess.”
“Jem is. He has always been good to you. He is nothing but goodness. That he hit you last night, that only shows how capable you are of driving even saints to madness.”
“Jem hit me?” Will, fingering his cheek, looked amazed. “I must confess, I remember very little of last night. Only that the two of you woke me, though I very much wanted to stay asleep. I remember Jem shouting at me, and you holding me. I knew it was you. You always smell of lavender.”
Tessa ignored this. “Well, Jem hit you. And you deserved it.” […]
“No, you don’t,” Tessa cried in frustration. “Do you think he cares about the danger? Do you? His whole life has been destroyed by this drug, this yin fen, and there you go off to a warlock den and drug yourself up as if it doesn’t even matter, as if it’s just a game to you. He has to take this foul stuff every day just so he can live, but in the meantime, it’s killing him. He hates to be dependent on it. He can’t even bring himself to buy it; he has you do that.” Will made a sound of protest, but Tessa held up a hand. “And then you swan down to Whitechapel and throw your money at the people who make these drugs and addict other people to them, as if it were some sort of holiday on the Continent for you. What were you thinking?”
“But it had nothing to do with Jem at all—”
“You didn’t think about him,” said Tessa. “But perhaps you should have. Don’t you understand he thinks you made a mockery out of what’s killing him? And you’re supposed to be his brother.”
Will had whitened. “He can’t think that”
“ He does,” she said. “He understands you don’t care what other people think about you. But I believe he always expected you’d care what he thought. What he felt.”
That is just an example, but the whole series is like that when it comes to Jem. Them defending him to each other when they fuck up, or defending him against the world, because for them he is that almost angelic person. And that’s cool and all, but what about him as a person? As a whole entity, and not an addition to the other two. (but then I read TLH, and TDA, and I think CC does not know/or doesn’t want to write the three separated from each other, but that is for another discussion, because these three always come in a package deal, and can’t be separated, I guess)
Now, that this is out in the clear, let’s get to the question, why is he one of fav characters? Well, for everything we don’t see, and know about him. And from the little we can get of him in the books. The minimum info on him is so freaking interesting, it just pushes us to read between the lines and do a lot of character study, (academic style) to get to his head.
Even though the surface-level reading of the character is that he is very kind, empathic, helpful and selfless. Now, that’s normal because Jem is a very discreet character, and in contrast, we have Will, who is very loud, very look at me (because of his curse). At some point, Tessa observes that Jem is like the owner of a very annoying dog. So, in a way, on a first read, he is kind of overshadowed by funny/clown Will. However, the man is funny as hell:
- “Jem gave her a wistful look. “Must you go? I was rather hoping you’d stay and be a ministering angel, but if you must go, you must.”
“I’ll stay,” Will said a bit crossly, and threw himself down in the armchair Tessa had just vacated. “I can minister angelically.”
“None too convincingly. And you’re not as pretty to look at as Tessa is,” Jem said, closing his eyes as he leaned back against the pillow.
“How rude. Many who have gazed upon me have compared the experience to gazing at the radiance of the sun.”
Jem still had his eyes closed. “If they mean it gives you a headache, they aren’t wrong.”
- “A demonic worm,” said Jem, pausing to peer cautiously around a hedgerow. “A great serpent. Would that help your inappropriate humor?”
He is also very eloquent when he wants to be (see Lily in GotSM), in his proposal, his apology to Tessa in CP2, him comforting Charlotte in CP2, etc…
And we also see his flaws, in the series, but there is no emphasis on them. His selfishness. Now, I know, he is a teenage boy, who knows that he is dying, but in that scene in CP2 when he threw Yin Fen in the fire, with no regard for the other members of his family, and how they do not want to lose him. We can also read that he is a very scared person. One because of the trauma he went through, but also because he will not live for a long time. Ex: his rushed engagement to Tessa.
This leads to one flaw we rarely talk about when it comes to Jem, which is his insecurities. His insecurity over his body, hell, even in After the Bridge, which is 100 years later, he was still insecure about his scared body. His insecurity about not being enough to Tessa, and that she deserves the best like his crazy consumption of Yin Fen to be perfect for her in CP2.
And all of this could have been explored if we had his POV. It would have added depth to his character. In TID, he is a teenage boy who is trying to survive in a country so far from his own. I would have loved to see his feelings over his trauma. I mean he saw his parents die, was tortured, and is still being tortured by what is keeping him alive. I would have loved to see his feelings about being in a way abandoned by his family (Elias) in a foreign country. Being alone at twelve, with no support system. Navigating his new life as a child, the mental and physical toll of having to take the Yin Fen in order to survive, but also how it will eventually kill him. The mental toll of believing and defending his only best friend who was fucking it big during that time, (same for Will, and how mentally draining it must have been to know your only best friend is dying as a child, especially after witnessing the death of his sister but that is for another post). I wanted to see his insecurities regarding his body, in contrast with the body of Will, especially because they are living in a very able-body culture, and how being a Shadowhunter is all they have, and their noble cause. I wanted to see his feelings of how limited he is physically compared to the other Shadowhunters of his age, and how he felt about the critics and remarks the other said about him. And when he was engaged, his feelings about not living for a long time with Tessa, and only giving her little.
And later in GotSM, I wanted to see how he felt about his life as a silent brother, and how he was cheated of his death. How he was present in the life of his loved ones, yet not very. I wanted to know how he felt when Elias said that he did not want him to be part of his family.
Anyway, this is getting too long. But, yeah, my love for Jem is for all that is not written, and what we can deduct from the multiple rereads of the series. I will probably come back to this post when I reread everything, and add stuff to it.

We’re calling on President Biden and the Department of Energy to stop the biggest build out of fossil fuels in US history: the construction of over 20 new LNG export facilities that could add the equivalent emissions of 675 coal-fired power plants.
Just one of these facilities, CP2, would cause 20 TIMES as much carbon pollution as the Willow Project in Alaska.
To help, sign this petition calling on DOE to to stop CP2 and all new LNG permit approvals until they look at the impact of these facilities on our communities, the climate, and US consumers.

LOVE TO SEE GABRIEL LIGHTWOOD APPRECIATION!!
WHO DARES TO SAY HE'S A NEGLECTFUL FATHER/HUSBAND?
Controversial opinion:
The other tid men wish to be half the man Gabriel is
End of controversial opinion
Also Gabriel is not sexist, he literally married the girl who told him in his face that she wanted to be a fighter and not the typical wife of the era, and after this is when he kisses her and begins their relationship, he knew what he was getting into and he wouldnt consent either Cecily became a trophy and a caretaker.
Let's take a walk through canon, and the parts they might be taking into account to say he's neglectful.
Shall we?
-Alexander is always with his mother or looking for her
Maybe Alex is a momma's boy? Maybe, but this doesn't mean the father isn't implied in his raising
-but Alex is always in Cecily's arms
True, because CC forgot Gabriel existed, he has ZERO lines in chot (please justify how when Tatiana was about to murder his toddler he stayed silent and it was Will and Gideon who talked, try to)
-But Cecily is always at home in canon with Alex, in EET it's her who goes to take care of him when he cries or when Ari come to the house she's holding him
True, but let's talk about some biology basic lessons, Alex was months old at EET, he was probably being breastfeeded so it's normal Cecily goes to him when he cries because 50% chance he's hungry, and babies during first months don't identify their mother as a different person than them, so he seeks comfort, it's n o r m a l.
This doesn't mean Gabriel isn't helping or taking care of him.
Also EET is about the mother-daughter bond Anna and Cecily have, Gabriel literally in one scene appears to be so tired (probably due to raising a baby and having to be awake at night for him) that he fell asleep in the carriage while Kit cuddled with him, do they think if Gabriel was truly absent Kit at 14 yo would cuddle to his father?
-But Gabriel doesn't want to be a father or a husband
Gabriel literally in CP2 says he finds cruel to marry a girl to leave her a widow, do they think someone who says this would be neglectful or abbandon his family?
-But Gabriel is afraid he becomes his father
This is never seen in canon or referenced, he is lost because he loved his father and he is worried he cant mourn him because he wasnt a great person, he never says or thinks he will become him.
P E R I O D.
Anon, you basically say what I think and if people still see Gabriel as a borderline toxic partner and father probably they've read a different version of TID and EET (TLH doesn’t count since it ruined both him and Cecily).
I found some posts where Gabriel was basically described as the stereotypical absent father/husband who stays at the bar watching football instead of helping his wife with the household or parenting his kids.
Both Anna and Kit love him canonically, I doubt they would do so if Gabriel was a neglectful father.
And I agree with your controversial opinion: Gabriel is at least twice the man than every other male character in TID.
He would never let Cecily be just the wife and mother, unlike CC in TLH, and even if he did he would help her and not let her do most of the work.

I'm done with Chain of Thorns, people! FINALLY. I have been holding my breath until the end. I feared that something unexpected would happen in the epilogue and ruin our happy ending, but I was wrong.
I mean, there were loose ends, like Jordelia's honeymoon, Matthew's trip (which I believe is the character CC will write short stories about), or Malcom approaching Lucie for her promise and telling her he went to faerie to understand how to raise Annabel. We know from TDA that he got that poem from the king about Blackthorn blood, and he was eyeing Jesse warily. I can see a future story where Malcom tries to harm Lucie and Jesse's children for his necromancy purposes, but then again, it would repeat some of the story we've already seen in TDA with the modern Blackthorn, so I'm not sure.
This could, however, still open a new story if CC decides to write about the kids of the TLH characters... which I'm so upset we know nothing about??? I thought that we would get a sort of glimpse into the future like we did in TID, but maybe it's better this way, so we can conjure up our plots about the descendants. Anyway, I must say, I was scared for this book because I thought it would be brutal. I thought more people would suffer a terrible fate (did CC say that someone would turn into a vampire? or that someone would have their marks stripped?
Thankfully it didn't happen, but I still feared it would). While this book was frustrating to read (James/Cordelia/Math triangle, I'm looking at you), I really liked it and it made me happy. I had expectations, and most of them were met in this book. Things I had written in my theories, my fan fictions --- things I wished would not be only in my mind, have turned into canon, and made me very, very, happy and warm and fuzzy all over. There were some moments where I smiled and laughed and had tears in my eyes because my heart was so happy to read some scenes, and I don't care if you think I'm silly.
I think that compared to other series like TID (which is still my favorite, TLH comes second) the epilogue felt a little underwhelming because it didn't leave that pang of bitterness and sadness the TID one did, but it's still a satisfying epilogue to me. And I'm thankful that tonight, when I go to bed, I will not cry about the ending (although I'm still bitter about Kit's death) and I will dream nice dreams.
It is like the ending of an era. I've been waiting for this book ever since I've finished CP2 and craved more content with the TID characters and their children. Needless to say, I will not shut up about TSC, now that this series is over. On the other hand, the ending makes me want to write more fan fictions and stuff about it, and make edits. So, be assured that I won't leave this fandom, and you can always send me asks or DM me about it, I'd love to discuss TSC with you.
We made it, guys! 💙🥲

Triangle Tuesday 11: The Gergonne point, circles, traces, and a new kind of conjugation
A couple of weeks ago, we found a point by drawing lines from the vertices to the points where the excircles tough the triangle (the extouch points). Those three points coincide, and that's the Nagel point, numbered as X(8) in the Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers.
This week we'll do the same, but different. Given a triangle, draw lines from its vertices to the points where the incircle touches the sides (the intouch points). These three lines coincide at the Gergonne point, X(7). Let's prove it exists.
Theorem: lines drawn from the vertices of a triangle to the intouch points of the opposite sides coincide.
Proof: let the intouch points be Ia, Ib, and Ic. The segments AIb and AIc (in red) are tangent to the incircle drawn from the same point, and therefore equal. Similarly BIa = BIc (blue) and Cia = CIb (green).
Let these three lengths be d, e, and f respectively. Then
d/e * e/f * f/d = 1
and therefore by Ceva's theorem, the lines AIa, BIb, and CIc coincide.
Very simple, and similar to the proof of regarding splitters that we looked at with the Nagel point. Too simple! The incircle and excircles are closely related, so these two points that are based on intouch and extouch points should be closely related as well, right?
Here they are together. The Nagel point is defined by the orange lines, and the Gergonne point by the green lines. The lines are in turn defined by the extouch and intouch points. What can we say about their arrangement?
Let's define a certain relationship here. Take a point P and draw its three cevians (blue lines). Call the places that the cevians intercept the sidelines the traces of P, in this case P1, P2, and P3. (This is not exactly standard terminology for these points, but I have seen at least a couple authors use it.) Reflect the traces of P across the midpoints of the sides M1, M2, M3 to produce Q1, Q2, Q3. Then the lines AQ1, BQ2, CQ3 intersect at Q. We say that P and Q are isotomic conjugates.
We can also express the idea of reflecting, for instance P3 across M3 to produce Q3 by saying the segments M3P3 and M3Q3 are equal, or that AQ3 and BP3 are equal.
Will this procedure always produce three lines that coincide at Q? Yes, and we can prove this with Ceva's theorem. Since P1, P2, and P3 are defined by cevians of P, they cut the sides of triangle ABC in ratios that multiply to 1:
AP3/P3B * BP1/P1C * CP2/P2A = 1.
If we go the same way around the triangle but look at the ratios made by the points Q1, Q2, Q3, we get the reciprocals of the three ratios for point P, which must also multiply to 1. Therefore Q1, Q2, and Q3, serving as endpoints of cevians, define the point Q.
And, just as we do with isogonal conjugates, we have a formula in trinlinear coordinates for converting a point to its isotomic conjugate. if a point P has trilinears coordinates
d : e : f
then its isotomic conjugate has trilinears
1/(d * a^2) : 1/(e * b^2) : 1/(f * c^2).
Now we can get back to looking for a connection between the Nagel and Gergonne points.
Theorem: the Nagel and Gergonne points are isotomic conjugates.
Recall from our discussion of the Nagel point that the orange lines are splitters, meaning they cut the triangle's perimeter in half. If we let a, b, and c be the lengths of the sides opposite vertices A, B, and C, then the length AC + ATc is half the perimeter, or (a + b + c)/2. Then the blue segment on the left is
ATc = (a + b + c)/2 - b = (a + c - b)/2.
Referring to the drawing above where we defined segments d, e, and f, we have
a = e + f -> e = a - f
b = d + f
c = d + e -> e = c - d.
Adding the two equations for e, we have
2 * e = a + c - d - f
and then substituting from the second equation, we have
2 * e = a + c - b
e = (a + c - b)/2
for the length of the blue segment on the right, and we have proved that the two blue segments are equal. Thus, Tc is the reflection of Ic across the midpoint of side c, and the same for the intouch and extouch points on the other sides.
Isotomic conjugates (from Greek iso meaning "same" and tomos meaning "cut" -- same root as in tomography) don't come up as often as isogonal conjugates. The isotomic conjugate of a well-known point is not that often interesting in itself. But I thought this relationship between the Nagel and Gergonne points was worth pointing out because they are defined similarly from the extouch and intouch points, which makes them my favorite isotomic conjugate pair.
If you found this interesting, please try drawing some of this stuff for yourself! You can use a compass and straightedge, or software such as Geogebra, which I used to make all my drawings. You can try it on the web here or download apps to run on your own computer here.

cp2 thoughts!
-i’m stressed!!!!! theres no chain of gold audiobook available at any of the 3 libraries i’m a member of and it’s gonna take me too long to read during the week. i want to read CoT when it comes out, i am so bad about staying offline when i know there are spoilers but i want to give myself time to process my re-read. tlh books are so fucking long! thankful but i’m stressed!
- again listened to the audiobook and forgot it’s daniel sharman of teen wolf fame lol but he’s very good! was he another will fancast of the time? does not sing the irish ballads but he has a very nice voice and does all the accents well. does will with a welsh accent, you gotta love it
-this book this book this book. it’s gut punch after gut punch
“though i am the consul and lead the clave, it seems very much to me that this will go down as the time as charlotte branwell, and my legacy will be lost.” WELL!
-consul wayland’s turn is still very abrupt to me, at least how it escalates from clockwork prince. he really turns to comically evil and i feel like we’re getting that with bridgestock. bridgestock has been much more straightforwardly a dick and but still. god will she ever catch a break
-curse-less will is so heartbreaking and wonderful to see. makes me love dad!will even more. he’s just a goofy guy
-‘that is what it means to be consul, charlotte’ i really think chain of thorns is going to put charlotte into more duty over family/loved ones whether that’s lucie being charged w something for necromancy or the inquisitor learning about matthew’s secret and forcing her hand in front of everyone to have him punished and to hurt her. i don’t think she’d punish either of them but i do think it’s going to be put in front of her. she will always bend the law for the ones she loves but how long/to what degree is she able to do that and still be consul. i’m scared!!!!!!!
-‘even his tufts of ginger hair radiating anxiety and love’ charlotte and henry showing small little affection towards each other makes any onlooker have to look away from them almost every time. their power
-can’t believe cecily is only in one book and is still such a big presence. gabrily forever! they fucking rock. charlotte gave gabriel one comforting hug and he said ok actually, i would die for you queen
-i love these siblings and i love that tlh is even more about siblings and families
-charlotte interrupting literally every couple’s tender moments by abruptly swinging the library door open. i can’t imagine the institute after clockwork princess, too many couples, everyone had to be secretly making out in corridors constantly
-gewgaws!! gideon writing these letters to the consul about charlottes fake spending habits is soooo funny. lucie needs to ask her uncle gideon to be her editor
-mortmain is a fun villain. it’s almost scarier that he’s just a mortal human man who has twisted technology and dark magic and created something more sinister than a supernatural villain would and his motivations are all very tragic. i like exploring more of the downworlder tension/ shadowhunter relations and how that’s always an undercurrent of all these series
-bridget daly what the hell are you, sister
-the cadair idris battle scene kills me every time every time! “i am not mad! he is alive! he is alive and i will not leave him!” henry and charles both have been brought back from the brink of death by warlock magic and if charlotte has to also hold matthew while he’s injured and dying, i’ll lose it. no more gravely injured fairchilds!
-it does feel like this book has about 6 different endings but i kind of always love that about tsc books. the big climax/battle is almost in the middle of the book and there’s plenty of fallout. like as much as there will always be angst and people we love dying, cc will always give us so many small sweet scenes as a balm. not that CoT will end happy per say but that’s a long fucking book. christmas at the institute is so so beautiful and i am dreading this christmas party at the institute where ‘terrible things happens”
-do you think callida fairchild died at the clockwork attack at the council meeting
-the god damn epilogue....nothing has messed me up quite the same way since. traumatizing truly. herongreystairs really is something else. tessa leaving really makes me cry cry cry. i know will’s death scene is not to be referenced for any tlh outcome anymore but “fairchild sons and daughters with curling red hair like henry’s had once been” i choose to believe this not referencing henry being dead but actually henry’s hair is just grey at that point
#what a series!!!!!!#having an entirely new series with their children really is an insane gift huh#ok gonna go start chain of gold now wish me luck bye bye#i want to post my chain of thorns theories before the book comes out#i have thoughts i have feelings#gewgaws#meg re-reads#thoughts etc

Ok so I'm gonna join in on this family tree discussion because I'm very confused about where the modern day Lightwoods come from.
****Spoilers Ahead****
I'm looking at the original CP2 family tree as I'm typing this, and it says that Christopher Lightwood and Grace Blackthorn have a son named Isidore who was born in 1908, and this line creates the modern day Lightwoods (Alec and Isabelle). But apparently in TLH Christopher dies at the end, so which Lightwood has Isidore?? I've seen some people say it's Alexander, but he's way too young. Are we to believe that Isidore never existed?

Tessa Gray 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 33, 48, 50 🤍
Tessa's kind of hard for me because I like her in a starkly different way than the canon seems to want me to, so I'm basically tugging at her arm and attempting to pull her out of literally everything written post-TID, lol. I love her but also. Yeah. That being said:
2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on -> Will wrote her a series of 100 letters while he was alive, one to open every year on her birthday for 100 years after he died. She loves this and looks forward to it annually.
3. Obscure headcanon -> She and Ragnor have absolutely taken a beachside vacation together, just the two of them. Probably pretty shortly after Will died, and it's there that they became more comfortable with each other.
10. Best moment on screen (or in the book) -> Turning into the angel in CP2, like I could not adore her more. (Also, the drawing room scene, but I'd consider that more a Will moment than a Tessa one.)
11. Faceclaim for the role -> Adelaide Kane!
12. Crack headcanon -> She and Catarina kissed once while they were drunk. Neither of them remember it.
14. Most heroic moment -> Turning into the angel in CP2 yet again.
16. Deepest darkest secret they won’t even admit to themselves -> Oh God okay well Tessa is 100% absolutely terrified of living forever and doesn't think she wants to live past Jem's death.
33. Something guaranteed to make them cry -> Dog movies. For sure.
48. Scariest moment of their life -> Probably when she was kidnapped by the Dark Sisters and forced to change. She was just a kid and had 0 knowledge of the Shadow World, so anything supernatural that happened after it would automatically have been easier.
50. A memory they’ve blocked out -> Nate dying in her arms. She 100% has just Repressed That Shit.

ask game:
tsc (i’m sorry i always ask about them, my brainrot is strong and i love hearing your thoughts)
and community
don’t apologize pls lol I also am brain rotting hard and have few people to talk about it with so it’s appreciated :)
The Shadowhunter Chronicles
M/F OTP: there are others I really like or love in a more normal way, but Emma/Julian Will/Tessa and Jem/Tessa are the ones that hit on another level for me emotionally, I’m clinically insane about them. Also it’s a bit hilarious to think about, since this was formative media for me (I first read TID in late elementary/middle school and TDA as they were coming out in high school) how my taste in ships generally speaking was shaped… like if you look at pairings I gravitate towards in other fandoms since there are def patterns xd. The impact!
Other M/F ships I have love for (including this category because ik i don’t talk about them as much and in another fandom where I had less dynamics I’m super fond of to choose from I could have placed them in that first category think of them as like second tier Otp’s for me ): Mark/Cristina, James/Cordelia, Simon/Isabelle (last one also was formative they were thee hot girl/soft boy nerd ship to me in middle school. But it has been a while so unsure if they’d hit the same on reread, they are the tmi couple I would most like to see in the better in black collection though!)
M/M OTP: Jem/Will! And then follow up Kit/Ty Surefire ways to get me invested in a ship: they do necromancy together, meet cute with a knife to the throat, they break up without ever dating. Triple check.
F/F OTP: along those lines it’s Lucie x Grace literally the main reason I want to reread TLH (well I do also just want to see how it reads back to back and not broken up and I have other reasons but like. Those are less important) is to be able to properly write fic about them, like it genuinely pisses me off this fandom is so boring and tasteless I can’t believe I actually miss the legacies fandom they were annoying as hell but at least they understood that when women do dark magic together it’s polite to write detailed analysis of how gay they are 😭. The way I know cc has seen Buffy too like flop. Also it just fits archetypes of antagonistic femslash I tend to love in general see: Julia/Marina Aria/Alison Elena/Rebekah and more
OT3: Herongraystairs and then Kierarktina
Friendship OTP: Tessa & Magnus + Will & Magnus! And for familial relationships I adore all The Blackthorn siblings in TDA and their dynamics but especially Julian and Mark’s relationship is v compelling to me and I also love Cordelia and Alastair’s relationship v much it was my favorite overall development in TLH. And then for psuedo familial dynamics I Love Charlotte’s relationships with Tessa Jem Will and Jessamine. her relationship with Jem might be my softest spot overall especially because they have moments in CP2 that make me go 🥺 but as a documented Tessa lover I adore how having Charlotte as a mentor figure effects her arc. So those are my favorites Ik I failed at picking just one. Oh I also adore Emma and Cristina’s friendship although I also sometimes ship them romantically
Canon OTP: Blackstairs Wessa Jessa like I said
Crackship OTP: what even counts as crackship? I will admit that during my CP reread I did look up how many Will/Magnus fics there are on ao3 although I did not read them (there are 12 for inquiring minds).
Anti-OTP: The worst ship to me is Jordan/Maia but it’s been a long time so the vitriol has worn off and I don’t have another solid notp besides them but the other canon pairings I’m #unimpressed with are Clace Ghostwriter and Gracetopher … Lucie/Jesse probably irks me the most these days because I actually want to like them because the concept is so good but the execution falls flat for me and I really like Lucie and want someone more interesting for her (like Grace lol.)
Community
M/F OTP: ultimately when I’m actually watching the show it’s Jeff/Britta love their emmaxknightleycore vibes. But I did get really into Abed x Annie at one point and even wrote some fic about it over quarantine (when I first got into Comm) so I have a soft spot for that concept too
M/M OTP: Troy/Abed. They of course are The otp of the show.
F/F OTP: not really otp status but well I did write this Annie x Britta Carmilla Au: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27728689?view_adult=true
(I orphaned that account post quarantine)
OT3: Troy/Abed/Annie
Friendship OTP: I mean all the study group dynamics but I especially have soft spots for Annie and Troy + Abed and Britta moments
Canon OTP: Jeff/Britta
Crackship OTP: what even counts as crack …
Anti-OTP: I just don’t like Jeff/Annie I used to viscerally hate it these days I’m just like. It’s not for me lol.
