🌼 I'm not even sure What I want anymore. Some days I feel , I would be Happier If i loose weight. On others, I feel like my body is a temple And I should worship it. Some days I feel, I would be happier if I talked more. Or others I realise The people who really care, Understand your silence. On somedays I wanna conquer the world. On others, I feel like I don't even belong. So when I think about, what I want? I want to be everything And nothing at all. I want to be dust in a dessert. But I also want be the universe, infinite in every direction. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #longreads #quotes #longquotes #pintrest #poetsofinstagram #booklover #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CAp4xMUhjnW/?igshid=rdi795oeofvr

Hua Cheng said softly, “If I was ugly.”
“Huh?” Xie Lian gaped.
Hua Cheng finally turned his head slightly. “If my real face is ugly, would you still want to see it?” Xie Lian was taken aback.
“Is it? Although there’s no real reason, but I think your real face mustn’t be that bad.”
“Who knows,” Hua Cheng said, half-jokingly. “What if I’m discoloured, disfigured, ugly, monstrous and horrible; what will you do?”
At first, Xie Lian thought this line of inquiry was rather fascinating. So the number one ghost king of the ages, feared by the heavens, would care about his looks? But when he thought about it deeply, he didn’t think it was very funny anymore.
If he remembered correctly, in the many rumored backstories of Hua Cheng, one had said he was a disfigured child from birth, or something along those lines. If that was the case, then he must’ve grown up discriminated against by others. Maybe it was because of this reason that he was particularly sensitive about his looks.
Thus, Xie Lian chewed on his words.
“Well…” He used his warmest, most sincere tone. “To be honest, the reason I want to see your real face is only because, you see, we’re already like this…”
“Hm?” Hua Cheng piped up. “Like what?”
“...Well, now we’re sort of friends, right? So, if we’re friends, then we should be honest with each other. So me wanting to see your real face has nothing to do with how you look. You ask what I will do, of course I won’t do anything. Don’t worry, as long as it’s your real face, I’m sure I’ll…why are you laughing? I’m being serious.”
When Xie Lian reached the last part, he could feel the boy next to him shaking. At first, for a moment, he had thought “are my words so moving that he’s touched like this?”, and was too embarrassed to turn around to see. But after a while, the soft laughter from next to him very obviously leaked out. Xie Lian felt rather bummed, and placed a hand on his shoulder to give it a little push.
“San Lang…why are you laughing so much? Did I say something wrong?”
Hua Cheng immediately stopped shaking and turned around. “No, you’re very right.”
Xie Lian felt even more bummed at those words. “You’re so insincere…”
“I promise, you won’t find another person more sincere than me in this world,” Hua Cheng replied.

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.” - Stephen King

I would like to believe this is a story I’m telling. I need to believe it. I must believe it. Those who can believe that such stories are only stories have a better chance. If it’s a story I’m telling, then I have control over the ending. Then there will be an ending, to the story, and real life will come after it. I can pick up where I left off. It’s also a story I’m telling, in my head, as I go along. Tell, rather than write, because I have nothing to write with and writing is in any case forbidden. But if it’s a story, even in my head, I must be telling it to someone. You don’t tell a story only to yourself. There’s always someone else. Even when there is no one. A story is like a letter. Dear You, I’ll say. Just you, without a name. Attaching a name attaches you to the world of fact, which is riskier, more hazardous: who knows what the chances are out there, of survival, yours? I will say you, you, like an old love song. You can mean more than one. You can mean thousands.

The bind that liberalism has put itself in is very simple. It promises a level playing field, but when you actually play the game, it keeps resulting in unequal outcomes between different groups "Reasonable people" should conclude that something is fundamentally wrong with it Wokeness buys liberalism's basic promise—all groups are equal in ability, and we will treat them fairly—then watches as the system keeps spitting out "unfair" disparities From this perspective, it is perfectly reasonable and logical to then say "Well this system is just a lie" There's no escape hatch here. If you're a liberal, and you keep seeing big disparities in outcome between races or genders or etc, logic insists you should become Woke to correct this You're only quibbling about the best Woke policies. Not that Wokeness is itself wrong The only alternative aside from Wokeness is to reject the core premise that all groups are equal And if you're willing to do that, to say "All right, but what if we did *racist and sexist* liberalism" Then congratulations, you're 80% of the way to reinventing neoreaction, James

Something that always bothered me about Aladdin-
It could be argued that Jasmine was too grief-striken to realize at the time, and "Ali" showed up too soon afterward to give her time to think about it, but Jafar's lie to Jasmine about Aladdin's arrest made no logical sense.
Assuming Jafar was not a scheming villain with ulterior motives and was telling the truth about having him arrested for "kidnapping the princess", the order he would have given the guards would likely be along the lines of "find who kidnapped her, and arrest him". Yet the guards were zeroing in on Aladdin without first realizing he had a woman with him, let alone any knowledge that she was the princess. Further, her defense of him probably would've reached Jafar after his capture (and probably did anyway) for the peculiarity of it if nothing else. At which point a non-evil Jafar might confront Jasmine about it.
Lastly, if Jasmine believed Jafar "sentenced him to death" and he showed up the next day as a suitor, who was it she though he actually killed?? Someone completely random? As princess, shouldn't she be more outraged at that possibility? Aladdin is fine, who cares if someone else was executed for nothing? And, she SAW them arrest Aladdin specifically! Only the day before! She doesn't question how that went?? Actually her probable assumption that he revealed himself as Ali to drop all charges makes the most sense in all of this.

Things work definitely different now. Throughout the long 20th century people derived their social status from their economic status. Thus politics – which is all about status competition – centered around economic policy and structure, from communism to capitalism, was all the rage. There was even this weird chimera term “socio-economic status”. It would have made no sense to a penniless medieval knight who obviously had higher social status than a rich merchant. And it makes no sense now when driving a Prius or riding a bicycle is higher status than driving a BMW. People gain more status now by signalling leftist values like environmentalism than by signalling wealth. And even that is changing. Now WSJ is saying even climate change alarmism descended into social justice identity politics: https://archive.li/NcW8x which amounts to admitting it was a hoax as an extinction-level threat just cannot be compared to transgender toilets in importance. So this is CURRENT_YEAR. The culture war is everything. Today a straight white male at college will either apply lipstick and say straight white males suck, or keep his head down in simmering anger and post nazi frogs on the chans. This is what we have today. Economic political debates, the whole socialism-capitalism debate is on the backburner because it is currently less relevant to social status. And this is the same thing actually. While many libs were against guns for a long time, today guns also have a culture war aspect in the US. They are associated with the kind of people whom the left in the UK today calls gammons: https://unherd.com/2018/05/friday-tragedy-gammons A gammon is a middle-aged or old white man with an ugly face red from arguing vehemently against a leftist idea. He is at the same time a powerful oppressor of marginalized people and a ridiculously low status prole. He is a Trumpist, a Brexiter, a redneck, but this term is now wider, a redneck used to be rural, now a gammon is nearly every older white male, suburban, urban, anyone except strong Progressive allies and they could be called gammons any time if someone wants take them a notch. For example, today hunting is uncool because it is associated with gammons. Remember the outrage about that dentist and a lion he took. And in the US guns are associated culturally with them. Hating guns is a way to hate straight white men. And capitalism, libertarianism associated with them. Of course organizations like Pink Pistols are making the picture more complicated. Today it is a very dynamic shitstorm of who hates whom, changing weekly, not the old, stable, predictable socialists vs. capitalists camps.

But the thing about remembering is that you don't forget. You take your material where you find it, which is in your life, at the intersection of past and present. The memory-traffic feds into a rotary up in your head, where it goes in circles for a while, then pretty soon imagination flows in and the traffic merges and shoots off down a thousand different streets. As a writer, all you can do is pick a street and go for the ride, putting things down as they come at you. That's the real obsession. All these stories.
