More Kungsleden watercolours! 1) View from the highest point of the Kungsleden: The Tjätkja pass. Seeing the expanse of this landscape, the beautiful colours, all those textures and its remoteness was very moving and it feels so special to me that I got the opportunity to paint and thus spend a little longer in this place, feasting my eyes and filling my heart. 2) Saying Goodbye to the trail by having lunch in the harbour with perfect views of Njulla. 3) Murky afternoon at Alesjaure. We walked a bit further past the hiking cabins and found a good spot for wild camping halfway down the lake. Alesjaure greeted us in the wildest shade of turquoise next morning. 4) Lunch break up at Tarfala, looking at one of the glaciers. I cooled down so much from sitting still and painting, that it took me 1,5 h walking downhill again, before my fingers weren't numb anymore. You can find Kungsleden part 1 here: https://chintzmann.tumblr.com/post/725753382562840576/i-spent-my-holidays-hiking-the-kungsleden-in

an edek themed collage 🪲
#not me posting this just to have an excuse to talk about him more aaahahhhah#i've created edek approx 4 years ago and since then he went through little to no design changes#he is jus flawless. perfect#his personality however.. oof#i mean !!! he's not a bad guy#as i mentioned before he's very friendly and open to new people and opportunities#its just. he was based on my (now) ex best friend#me and that friend were close during primary school and despite me moving cities we managed to keep this friendship going#but you know. it wasnt the same. it became long distance#and i think i manifested my longing by creating an oc that was based on his aesthetics and personality#it took me some time to realise that i've been viewing this friend through lens of this oc. that of course lead to idealisation#because he wasn't physically there with me i created an imaginary version of him in my head#it was also because at this point we were getting older and slowly growing apart#and i think i wanted to grasp a little part of him that would still understand me#edek's relationship with ryba was also heavily influenced by this relationship#and. well. the things that my ex friend and edek have in common are short temper (despite acting chill) and trouble showing affection#he also tends to say things faster than he can even think them through#oh and he enjoys long walks through the woods and mountain hiking and bicycling and bugs and mushrooms and. yeah#and the other traits!!!!#he is suuuuuuper protective of his loved ones especially his younger sister irenka#his interest include everything thats fantasy and with folklore themes#hes also a stoner lol#aaand a funfact - he and zbyszek (of dycha za zbycha!!!!) used to be friends in childhood but they aren't friends as of now#why you might ask? from edek's pov zbyszek and his family just randomly disappeared#and edek was the only one that wasn't in on the fact that they have moved to the usa#edek wondered why his best friend at that time didn't tell him such important news#and often thought that there mustve been something wrong with him or zbyszek didn't actually like him that much#this incident heeeavily influenced his perception of relationships in the future#OH AND ALSOO hes an artist he graduated art hs with a degree in graphic design and is in college for the same thing#original character

Most people who follow me these days don't know that from 2018 to 2020 I had a webcomic.
It was a memoir following the events of my first long-distance backpacking trip with my husband. One hundred miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon, from Sisters, OR to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood.
It focused a lot on my insecurities as a new backpacker as compared to the thru-hikers we encountered on that adventure... and the difficulties present in my marriage at the time.
Honestly, the longer I worked on it the more beautiful the pages became, and the faster I got at making them! I learned so much working on this project.
Each day on that trip was formatted as a chapter in the 'story' I was telling. Thus, the longer I worked on it, the longer each day became. Chapter 1 was only 29 pages, while Chapter 2 (above) was 37.
What ended up going online was only chapter 1 and 2. I intended on completing all of chapter 3 before posting it two pages per week so I'd have ample buffer to work on subsequent chapters. But... life kind of happened and production slowed down.
And, well, I realized in the end I was airing my dirty laundry for the world to see and painting my husband in a really shitty light.
The first nine pages of chapter 3 were finished, with a few more after that flatted and inked. The whole chapter was penciled save for a handful at the very end that I at least got roughed out. I loved how this chapter was looking and reading. I got creative with panels and compositions and felt so confident in my ability to make a good graphic memoir.
It was hard for me to let it go, but as the chapter progressed and the story got into the nitty gritty of it all, it was just too much. What had started as a desire to make a comic about a dramatic backpacking trip that left me with a sprained ankle and a newfound appreciation for my body had become... one-sided couples therapy.
This is the first time a lot of these pages have ever seen the Internet.
There's "doing the work" and then there's "Doing the WORK", and that's what this comic became. Seeing my actual faults. Not just my insecurities and anxieties, but how I saw myself in relation to my own partner and how I saw him. It was thoughtless to paint him in that light for other people to see and make their own assumptions.
So, a strong note to be made now: This comic is, technically, fictitious. Characterizations were exaggerated so much that the characters I made of myself and my husband didn't resemble us anymore.
I took the whole thing off the internet when came to these uncomfortable realizations. There are far, far worse pages already drawn that will never see the light of day.
Memoirs are tricky things. They can be healing, but they can also be harmful. The people in your memories are still people, and that has to be understood throughout the entire process. No matter what kind of imagined 'redemption arc' you create in your narrative to make up for it.
Anyway, if you got this far, thanks for reading about my experience making a webcomic/graphic memoir.

Hello! My friend and I adore you fic and were curious if Scar had any sort of disabled equipment such as a wheelchair or cane?
Hi!! If you're sending me this ask then I assume you've read Chapter 8, which is where we go into some more detail about Scar's backstory. I don't make any mention of mobility aids in that chapter though, so thanks for the question!
No, Scar does not use a wheelchair in Firewatch AU. Fire lookouts and mountain hiking trails are in general not very accessible, unfortunately. As for a cane, I have not decided, but he would certainly make use of dual hiking (trekking) poles when going to and from his lookout and other places. It's my understanding that while hiking poles may not be a good permanent replacement for a cane year-round, that they would still fulfill the same need pretty well. As in, I find it unlikely he would carry an extra cane to his lookout when he already has dual hiking sticks. So the answer to that question is a...maybe???
I have a few ideas for associated works in this AU, and one of them is a short Scar-centric fic. I can definitely expand a lot more on his character there, since in the main fic we only get the details Scar tells Grian. Overall though, in this AU Scar has chronic pain (and indeed some mobility issues) associated with the accident he was in. I have not pinned down exactly what all his injuries were, though. I did a lot of research looking at stories from other people's experiences, but ultimately the healing process is very individual so I didn't come up with any "blueprints" for everything. It's something I plan to research more when I get to a place where I need to be specific.
#he def has to save spoons though; idk if i mentioned it in the story or not but at the beginning of the seasons#he normally hikes in a little before he needs to so he has some time to rest before he has to work#his lookout is also like a. normal distance from the road. grian's is a pretty long hike#quara asks#hc_firewatch_au#also re:hiking sticks#there's different types of canes ofc so a hiking pole wouldnt match every type. similarly a hiking pole is more likely to have a sharp base#(though my family has ones with a normal base too)#but i think in this setting with its heavy focus on camping/hiking/backpacking that it would serve the same purpose

Holiday paintings from the Kungsleden, part 3:
Abisko National Park offers splendid views of the surrounding hills. This painting was slightly cheated since I didn't get to paint it in situ, but instead had to paint it on the train with the help of a photo reference. I feel like it looks a little less spontaneous due to that, but there was no helping it since I really wanted that memory on paper.
This bright blue lake surprised us so much after coming up the mountain at the end of Kårsavagge. Add that reddish rock and the brilliantly white patches of snow and I already had my work cut out for me as an artist.
Evening light on our train ride down south. The compositon is – admittedly – crap. A really wide format would have been much more suited than DIN A6, here. But I like the colours.
Singi, view towards Kebnekaise. I loved how the clouds kept catching on that one single mountain that looked like a giant cruiser.
