Greywacke and loam with a slope of 45%. Sexy and captivating nose of ripe red raspberries, cherries and vanilla. Concentrated and ripe palate, very focused and bright with singed cherry, and the barest warmth of the wood. Excellent. ****

Your Life Is The Truman Show
Tumblr media
This place, our "current reality", the Upside Down which is definitely a Stranger Thing, isnt a fit for me.
Its not like it was before.
I noticed it as soon as I started high school, my first day as a freshman at Bishop Ahr in September 1995.
Everything felt so motherfucking fake, forced and contrived.
The stupid mandatory pep rallies I was forced to attend in the gymnasium and having to pretend that I gave a shit that we were playing our rivals, Colonia.
I didnt.
Being forced fo sit in the cafeteria every day for an hour when I would finish my Lunchables, Sour Gushers & Hi-C in ten minutes.
Attempts to hide in the bathroom stall and the school library were met with threats of detention and an insistence that I stay in the cafeteria every day for my full lunch hour per my schedule.
Extracurricular activities were n e v a h a social fit at all, neither in junior high or high school.
I wasnt talking and I was socially isolated due to my social anxiety but I could never shake that forced and contrived feeling I already mentioned.
Everything was artifice.
Marching band playing the fluit in junior high, wind ensemble playing the flute in 4th through 8th grade. I'm front row, second from the right.
Tumblr media
Softball for a decade for St .Peters (3rd through 8th grade) & Franklin Township Little League (2nd grade through 10th grade). Im in the middle holding the bat.
Tumblr media
Girl scouts - junior high, French club & Students Against Drunk Driving - high school.
Spring & winter track - varsity lettered sophomore year - high school.
Tumblr media
Youth choir - church - 11 to 13 years old, Counselor in training - Inman Park - Summer 7th grade, Theater program - Villagers Theater - Summer 7th grade, Candy striper - St. Peters Hospital - freshman & sophmore years - high school, Intervarsity For Christ - freshman year - UDel, Talent Competition - junior year - high school; Talent Show - 8th grade; Vacation bible school - church - 11 to 13 yeara old.
Additional clues this place has nevah been a fit:
•During my 15 year career in corporate which spanned from 2007 to 2022, I worked twenty mostly jobs which were mostly contract assignments with only a few permanent jobs with all of my tenures being a year or less with the absolute max tenure for any one job being two years, additionally I worked over a dozen temporary jobs during that same 15 year tenure in corporate, that ranged from a few days to a few weeks to a month or possibly two at most.
•I left four jobs in six years with no job lined up (Bank of America - 2015; International SOS - 2017; Dow Jones - 2019; Amazon - 2021).
•I left Amazon (6 month contract, $55/hr) after seven days.
•College (University of Delaware) was a thousand times worse than high school and even less of a fit because now I was living in a dorm on campus surrounded by people pledging sororities, partying, driking, doing LSD and hooking up left and right and I was interested in exactly none of that.
•Corporate exposed an extremely clear pattern that had emerged where seemingly nothing was a fit for me in terms of established accepted societal structures (sports teams, marching bands, girl scouts, church choir, summer camp, high school, 4 year college, corporate America).
•Ego death and self awakening in 2023 that included my third eye opening, kundalini awakening, ego death, self ascension, self actualization, aligning & activating all seven chakras.
Tumblr media
•Receiving regular esoteric downloads from the Akashic Library and posting them to my tumblr and TikTok.
•Daily trips to the dreamscape at night when Im "dreaming" where I put the current days version of myself to sleep in the dreamscape and download "the next days" version of myself then I "wake up", temporarily leaving the dreamscape and traveling back to our current reality, the Upside Down, when in reality when I am asleep and dreaming I am awake in the dreamscape and when I "wake up" from my "dream" I am actually asleep in the false reality of our virtual reality simulation of what we call "life", where Im typing this, the Upside Down.
•Esoteric realization after opening my thirf eye that our "reality" is nothing but a simulated virtual reality videogame version of the dreamscape, which is actual reality.
Where we are now, where Im typing this and youre reading this, is nothing but a dream.
Limited 3 dimensional bullshit.
Car notes, mortgages, doctors appointments, electricity bills, fear of death, ridiculously extending life with insane interventions which make no logical sense as we can only delay and not stop death so it is better to self awaken accept death and realize that it is a beautiful transformation and it is nothing to fear or avoid or fight or struggle against as it is your final metamorphosis back to the beautiful ascended limitless energetic eternal butterfly you are as death is nothing but shedding the temporary cocoon of your physical manifesration of a human evolving beyond your current 3D caterpillar self back to the butterfly you are and were before your extremely temporary manifestation as a physical human being, loans, debt, credit cards, 9 to 5s, jobs, emails, Slack, Outlook, team meetings, agendas, mandated schedules, time, alarm clocks, schools, politics, duopoly, elections, propaganda, diets, gyms, fads, trends, crash diets, master cleanses, 24 hour news cycles, cultural zeitgeists, streaming services, Black Friday sales, Prime 1 Day sales, 1 hour deliveries, stock market, derivatives, stock options, investment portfolios, RSUs, promotions, mid-year reviews, performance reviews, year end reviews, cross-lateral moves, layoffs, redundancies, reductions in force, firings, hirings, sign-on bonuses, ESOPs, EBITDA, CEOs, ExCo, board members, shareholders, slave wage, labor, contracts, exploitation, gaslighting, manipulation, lies, sabotage, character assassination, false narratives, agendas, misinformation campaigns, ruthlessness, mercilessness, torture, phosphorous, chemical warfare, misogynoir, war crimes, maas graves, rape rooms, death squads, false imprisonment, guilty till proven innocent, driving while black, unknown & undetermined cause of death, unlicensed medical examiners office, its just another dead black guy, the case is suspended until further notice because were not investigating it, black people dont own homes they rent, all black baggy jeans black shirt black shoes black skin black car dead nigger, theyre all the same, theres a ton like him in newark, dump him in the hallway and ill try to do the autopsy in a month, false memories, false narratives, false cause of death, patriarchal dick, fake ass head of the family sociopath, convicted felon, state prison in georgia, first degree forgery, paper brother alpha phi alpha legacy brother only got in because his brothers actually got hazed, 3M offer letter in the file cabinet in the basement, parole officers, daughter printed out and kept in files, possessive jealous controlling hebephile obsession fixation predilection predation...

•Dreamscape is unlimited 10 dimensional, walk through walls, walk on water, fall through the sky endlessly without dying, kaleidoscopic explosion of light color supernovas lucid lush lurid visceral acid dreams. The dreamscape is limitless because its your mind and imagination. We all intrinsically know that noone and nothing can limit our imagination and we can literally think of and dream of and imagine anything. Thats all the dreamscape is.
Tumblr media
Where we currently reside and what we currently inhabit is a fake bastardization Upside Down version of the Dreamscape with false limits, rules, ordinances, laws, mandates, requirements, obligations, taboos, shibboleths, electrified third rails, shoulds, have tos, cants, shouldnts, donts, not allowed, need permission, need authorization, need a permit, need notarization, need a seal of approval, need a stamp of approval, need a license, need to be certified, need a degree, need letters after your name, need the clout, need the zeros in your bank account, need the wealth, need the prestige, need the status, need the company brand name, need the job title, need the red heeled shoes, need the louboutins, need the louis vuittons, need the SRTs, need the birkin bag, need the fendi, need the knockoffs, need the couture, need the flex, need the luxury, need the validation, need the approval, need the attention, need the distraction, need the gloss, need the shine, need the airbrushing, need the photoshop, need the CCs, need the BBL, need the lip filler, need the cheek implants, need the nose job, need the augmentation, need the lipo, need to inject your stomach fat into your butt cheeks, need the laser sculpting, need the brow lift, need the face lift, need the botox, need the fillers, need skims, need spanx, need a tinier waist, need abs, need muscles, need butt gains, need a thigh gap, need a 20 to 22 inch waist, need to look like the girls in the kpop industry, need hip dips, need v lines, need curves, need to be thicc, need to be thin, need to be skinny, need bigger boobs and a bigger ass...
I constantly see the Truman Show all around me.
I see Bryan Cranston stepping on set like Asteroid City at a family members streamed funeral to narrate the scene.
I see the boom mic and lightbox crash onto the set of my cousin giving birth to her first child.
I hear the director yelling "Cut!" because one of the Marine officers wasnt standing on the black X and didnt hit his mark at a family members burial.
I hear the director asking for a 25th take when a family member falls and injures herself after a work event.
I see the Black Friday Walmart ad that has a dozen items in squares and when the squares are flipped over two sets of prices are revealed: "Was $XYZ" & "Now $XYZ", however, many of the before and after prices are the exact same and many of the "now" prices are actually MORE expensive than the "was" prices.
During Amazons Black Friday Football game, I see a Dolphins defensive player lower his helmet to deliver a hit then crumple and collapse to the turf.
After the game, the same Dolphins player is interviewed for his remarkable 99 yard pick 6 earlier in the game.
Laughably, the Dolphins list the player's injury after the game as a "knee injury".
I pulled up the player, Jevon Holland's (#8) injury history, and he had a very hard collision with a fellow Dolphins defensive player last month during a game on 10/23/23.
Holland laid motionless on the turf for several minutes after the collision. He was then taken to the lockerroom and the Dolphins reported he "cleared concussion protocol" and he was put back in the game.
The very next morning, on Monday (10/24/23), when Holland reported to the Dolphins team facility, he reported concussion symptoms.
Holland was placed into concussion protocol and he was then cleared to play exactly a week later on 11/1/23.
3 weeks later, as I already mentioned, during Amazons Black Friday Football game, Holland lowered his helmet to deliver a hit, collapsed to the turf, was never checked on the sidelines or in the medical tent for a concussion and the Dolphins later reported his injury after the game as a "knee injury".
On the broadcast, Al Michaels said after Holland collpased to the turf that the NFL was trying to remove this play from the game because players lowering their head to deliver a hit is unsafe especially to the player delivering the hit.
After Holland collapsed to the turf, Amazons Black Friday Football broadcast stepped away for an injury timeout and, after commercials, once the broadcast resumed there was a graphic shown onscreen of the current AFC playoff picture.
The viewer could see that Holland was no longer on the turf so he had clearly left the field during commercials, however, Al Michaels and Kirk Hebstreit, Amazons play by play and announcement team, never updated the fans on Holland.
As I stated earlier, after the game ended, Holland was interviewed by the sideline reporter about his incredible 99 yard pick 6 and the Dolphins win.
Holland was in very high spirits.
What concussion?
Did Jevon Holland, as he did last month, report concussion-like symptoms to the Dolphins trainer today when be reported in to the team's facility after sustaining yet another collision in-game that he wasnt properly tested and diagnosed for by the teams unaffiliated neurological consultant (UNC)?
Does anyone even care?
Did anyone even notice?
After Al Michaels mentioned that the NFL legislated helmet to helmet hits out of the game to protect both the defensive and offensive players when Holland lowered his helmet to deliver the hit then collapsed to the turf, the injury timeout happened, the broadcast went to commercials then once the broadcast resumed Al Michaels & Kirk Hebstreit never mentioned Hollands injury again.
As the viewer, we saw Holland lower his helmet, deliver the hit, collapse to the turf, injury timeout, commercials, back to the broadcast, Holland had left the field during the commercials but instead of at least an update from Al Michaels saying that the Dolphins hadnt provided an update or at least state that Holland was able to get up under his own power something, we were instead as the viewer shown a graphic of the current AFC playoff standings and Al & Kirk discussed how the Dolphins were currently dominating in their division and conference.
Jevon Holland had scored a 99 yard pick 6 earlier in the game so all discussions about Holland focused on this both after he collpased on the turf in the 4th quarter of the remainder of the game as well as the post-game broadcast.
The broadcast team (Al Michaels & Kirk Hebstreit) as well as the post-game team (Carissa, Fitz, Sherm, Whit and Tony G) only discussed the pick 6 when discussing Holland. Same with the sideline reporter who interviewed Holland after the game.
The broadcast was acting like Holland was never shown, including in a slow motion replay, lowering his helmet to deliver a hit that immediately resulted in him colllapsing to the turf.
Holland also seemed perfectly fine during his post-game interview and he was extremely high-spirited about his 99 yard pick 6 as well as the Dolphins winning.
On the commentary, Al Michaels didnt identify Holland by name, only stating that a Dolphins defensive player was down.
If you didnt notice the number on his jersey (#8), you wouldnt have connected that this was the same Dolphins player who had scored the 99 yard pick 6 earlier in the game.
Since Michaels & Hebstreit never mentioned Holland's collapse to the turf and/or injury again (it had occurred in the 4th quarter) and neither did Amazons post-game show, most viewers wouldnt have known who the player who had collapsed on the turf was and would have never connected that it was the same Dolphins player who scored the 99 yard pick 6 who was interviewed after the game.

Life is a reality TV show.
Theres boom mics, lightboxes, cameras, grips and dollies all around you every single moment of your life.
Theres a black X made out of black masking tape on the ground underneath you every time you stand and speak.
Theres a sign that flashes "Laughter" on stage behind you any time you tell a joke and people laugh.
When you crossed the stage at your college graduation to receive your diploma, there was a sign behind you in red letters that said "APPLAUSE" when the audience clapped.
The people weeping over you at your funeral are actually SAG-AFTRA actors hired as paid mourners.
The Mandela effect is real.
Deaths are faked, there are false news reports, green screens, hired actors, paid shills, fake journalists, sound stages, sets and Cigarette Smoking Mans.
Berenstein Bears, Berenstain Bears.
We are the champions my friend. We keep on fighting till the end.
We are the champions...of the world.
But now the song no longer ends with "of the world".

Al-Rawi, A. (2024). The Development of Video Game Representations of the Middle East. Games and Culture, 0(0). https://doi.org/10.1177/15554120241255425 [Accessed 30 November 2024].
The article explores the stereotypical and negative representation of Arabs and Muslims in video games both pre and post 2002. The author explores how the representation of Arab and Muslim cultures developed in the west, fueled primarily by the connection and relationship between the western military complex and the entertainment industry. The article showcases the many stereotypical tropes assigned to Muslims in video games tend to associate them with mysticism and terrorism which, then, require the intervention of the western protagonist to resolve.
As a Muslim from an underdeveloped country, this article resonates profoundly as I have personally observed the misrepresentation of my religion and culture in media for decades. Through this article the author makes a sound argument against this form of blatant stereotyping and urges all the creators to peer past the political lens and instead focus on representing the culture in its holistic form.

Atkinson, P., & Parsayi, F. (2024). Institutionalized Aesthetics: Video Games and the Contemporary Art Gallery. Games and Culture, 0(0). https://doi.org/10.1177/15554120241246839 [Accessed 31 November 2024].
The article challenges the contemporary beliefs of art museums and galleries, in their definition of what is considered as art and what qualifies to be showcased within their walls. By analyzing the conditions of cinema and interactive art in modern art institutions and examining several notable works, the authors investigate the role of museums in defining art.  The article sheds light on the role of higher authorities in defining the position of video games in our society and thus proposes potential solutions for incorporating video games into modern art galleries, acknowledging the medium's artistic and cultural significance.
As an artist who aspires to evoke a genuine sense of awe and spectacle in the audience, I found this article both enlightening and worrisome. This article brought to light the notion of medium specificity that is still prevalent in modern art and one that requires significant effort to be broken down.

Chalmers, D.J., 2022. Reality+: Virtual Worlds and the Problems of Philosophy. W. W. Norton & Company, New York, pp. 20-36.
In the book, Chalmer explores the nature of reality by addressing the complex philosophical questions that arise in the context of virtual worlds. This section draws on historical myths, including the tales of Zhuangzi’s butterfly dream, Plato’s cave, and Nadara’s simulated life to discuss whether virtual worlds, and the lives we lead within them, can be considered 'real'. This part of the book not only raises intriguing questions but also attempts to offer insights into these deep philosophical dilemmas.
The book highlights the potential impact of a player’s decision and actions within the virtual world resonating into their daily lives and potentially changing their perspectives and values. As creators who strive to create thought provoking narratives, this book highlighted our responsibility, not only as entertainers but as teachers who can shape a player’s perception of reality and, perhaps, even touch their moral compass.

Denning, A. (2021). Deep Play? Video Games and the Historical Imaginary. The American Historical Review, 126(1), pp.180–198. https://doi.org/10.1093/ahr/rhab002. [Accessed 11 November 2024].
Andrew Denning examines the importance of video games in teaching the younger generation about history in a fun and interactive manner, enabling the exploration of complex ideas and events that would otherwise be difficult to comprehend. The article analyzes games like the Wolfenstein series in their role in popularizing Germany’ history and shedding light on the atrocities committed by the Nazis during World War II. By allowing players to experience historical events from a first-person perspective, these games not only educate but also immerse players in the emotional and moral dimensions of history.
As a developer, this article is a fascinating look into the potential of video games in educating students without sacrificing entertainment. As suggested by the article, potentially, more students can experience history through video games than any other form of media, making video games not only financially lucrative but also culturally and academically impactful.

This article illustrates the importance of holistic research and iterative workflow in the process of creating games that strive to achieve emotional realism through morality-based gameplay. Through reflective interviews, the author carefully dissected the creative process behind the development of This War of Mine and its complex emotional dilemmas, emphasizing the importance of extensive research based on both the emotional narrative and the historical context that influenced the development process.
As one of my primary sources of inspiration, This War of Mine, has played a key role in my understanding of morality and realism in video games. Through the interviews the authors reveal the tremendous amount of responsibility on video game designers to not only conduct holistic research but to also recognize their responsibility in the design of the morally rich games narratives that not only aim to be emotionally educative but ones that ensure commercial success.

In this article the authors conduct a comparative analysis of video game rating systems in Europe and United States which includes the pan-European PEGI, the U.S. ESRB, and Germany's USK. The study examines each system's effectiveness in restricting access to age-appropriate content by utilizing three comparative tests in order to determine how each rating board handles specific game genres itself. For instance, the study finds that Germany’s USK tends to be more lenient with violent first-person shooters, compared to ESRB which adopts a stricter approach to such content.
As someone familiar with the level of graphic violence and sexual content in certain games, I find this 2013 analysis of rating boards' effectiveness both fascinating and essential even today. Understanding each board's tolerance for specific content not only informs my perspective on age-appropriate restrictions but also offers valuable insights for adapting my design style to align with different regional rating systems.

Through this article, Dorman and Neuvians explore the potential of video games to engage the audience’s attitudes, values and emotions through affective gameplay. To do so, the authors first identify video game design patterns that may be used to achieve emotional engagement and learning. For this, specific games were selected and analyzed based on their ability to simulate emotional and social response in players. Through this analysis, the article aims to enlighten the video game industry to the potential of emotionally educative games that can address societal issues like conflict management and combating stereotypes.
As a developer who aims to create impactful experiences, this article provided me with valuable insight into the creative potential of video game designing based on affective learning. Understanding the design patterns of affective games would not only enable us to craft compelling narratives but also help to foster empathy and emotional growth amongst the players, especially in contemporary times.

This article examines the significance of video games as a form of digital cultural heritage and highlights the pressing need for their preservation. Harkai discusses the difficulties in preserving video games which encompass software, graphics, music and other interactive elements subject to both technical and legal hurdles. The article underscores the importance of recognizing video games as cultural artifacts and advocates for both legal frameworks and collaborative efforts in order to safeguard them for future generations.
As both a developer and consumer of video games, I have always admired the medium’s ability to share and preserve diverse cultures. The article offers crucial insight into the role of video games as a tool for preserving digital heritage. By understanding the challenges faced in the process of video game preservation, we can thus develop games to not only entertain but also serve as enduring cultural artifacts.

BACHELOR'S ROSE COCKTAIL (1910)
To celebrate the first sunny day in a while, I brought the ingredients for the next Tasting History (or rather, Drinking History) creation - the Bachelor's Rose cocktail from 1910 - to my friend's garden. The recipe for the Bachelor's Rose cocktail was published in 'Jack’s Manual', a book of cocktail recipes by J.A. Grohusko, an American bartender. Max chose this specific cocktail in order to embody the spirit of a Valentine-themed cocktail. In the late Victorian and early 20th century era, valentines were sent not only from admirers to their crush or love, but to their enemies in the form of 'vinegar valentines', which would mock the receiver - their appearance, personality, or bad traits. These were not done in jest, either! Luckily, this cocktail would more likely be prepared for a true, sweet valentine as a sign of love, as it does not taste like vinegar! I chose to make this recipe because I love a gin-based cocktail, I'd never tried sloe gin before (sloe is a berry which flavours the gin), and Max seemed to enjoy it. See Max’s video on how to make it here or see the ingredients and process at the end of this post, sourced from his website.
My experience making it:
The gin I used for this cocktail was Kehl's Sloe Gin, a German sloe gin from the town of Niederkassel, near Cologne. Unfortunately, I didn't have any fancy coupe cocktail glasses, so we used our beloved SolidAHRität wine glasses (wine glasses we bought to support the rebuilding of the Ahr valley wine area in Germany, which experienced devastating floods in 2021 and is still rebuilding - I definitely recommend a visit to the area!).
The process to make a Bachelor's Rose was very easy. I was a bit worried about using egg whites for the cocktail, since I'd never done that before, but the process was a lot simpler than expected! For our first cocktails, I followed the recipe exactly. My friend juiced the lemon, lime, and orange while I added the egg white, gin, raspberry syrup, and ice to the cocktail shaker. We then added the citrus juice, and I gave it a good shake. I strained it out into the glass, and watched as the egg whites did their work to create a lovely separated foam on top. The colour of the cocktail was really lovely, a kind of cloudy rose pink colour. We were so excited to taste the cocktail that I forgot to add a garnish! For our second round of cocktails, we added more gin than raspberry syrup in order to taste the sloe a little better, and we harvested our own little wildflowers from the garden for a garnish - the cherry on top.
My experience tasting it:
The first round of cocktails were really delicious. Fairly sweet, and some forward sour notes from the citrus. I was kind of surprised this cocktail recipe was from 1910; when I imagine older cocktails, I somehow usually assume that alcohol will be the main flavour, as a lot of older cocktail recipes that we still enjoy today, like an Old-Fashioned, a Sazerac, or a Manhattan are all fairly alcohol-forward. The Bachelor's Rose, however, tasted like something I could find on a happy hour menu - it had so much sweet and sour flavour, that the taste of gin was almost hard to detect. Very delicious, but because I like the taste of gin, I was hoping to taste the sloe gin a little more in this cocktail. While we both very much enjoyed the first cocktail, we decided that in the second, we would add a little less raspberry syrup, and a little more sloe gin. When we tried the second round of cocktails, we were happy to discover that our change had, in fact, made the cocktail taste even more complex than before - less like a sweet and sour berry candy and more like it may have some wild-foraged fresh berries in it. You could taste the sloe gin a bit more in this one, but it was still balanced nicely by the citrus. Because the Bachelor's Rose cocktail is easy to make and tastes delicious, I would definitely recommend making it on a summery day for some friends. I surely will again! If you end up making it, if you liked it, or if you changed anything from the original recipe, do let me know!

Weingut Paul Schumacher Spätburgunder Blanc de Noir Ahr 2021
11.5% alc. Nice collection of important vineyards and old vines at this estate located in Marienthal. Light brassy color with ripe, even bruised golden apple on the nose. Rounded on the palate, almost creamy, with relatively soft Meyer lemon-like acidity. Assuming the vinification is in stainless steel. Straightforward and pleasing. **

I thought I'd demonstrate what my Wikipedia rabbit holes tend to look like, using my currently open tabs.
First thing first: In January, I realised I didn't have any firm, or even shaky, knowledge of Russian history, talking middle ages up to, say, Peter the Great (my knowledge does not improve after Peter the Great, but I am currently disinterested in anything post-1700). So, I decided to fix this.
When I want to learn the fundamentals of a topic, I always go with Wikipedia instead of books. Why? Books are a larger investment. What if I don't find the topic interesting in the long run? Wikipedia articles are me dipping my toe in the water, improving my allmänbildning without having to complicate things with in depth knowledge. I feel like this is completely normal.
Okay!
So, um. I never go to the obvious Wikipedia article right from the start when I'm about to head down a rabbit hole. I have to get to the topic I'm after via link hopping from the Wikipedia article I already have open (and I usually have one open, because I like learning and I'm always looking stuff up). I don't need to end on the specific "History of Russia" article, or whatever. I count it as a win when I reach a page that's related to the actual topic. Iirc, in my Russian history rabbit hole, I'm pretty sure it was the article on the Volga.
Success! I start reading and following links. Then I start opening new tabs to a group when I begin hitting divergence points. That's when I start finding multiple links on a new page that interests me, and it's going to get too complicated for me to mentally keep track of where I was, what I wanted to read, where I started. That's normal.
At no specific point, I go "whoops, that's too many tabs, I better start chewing through them" and hopefully not open new new tabs from the new tabs. And I start reading articles from least to most relevant on the principle that this is least likely to cause more tabs to my Goal Topic so I can close tabs.
So! This is what my Russian history tab group currently looks like.
Saqilaba
Volga trade route
Jüz
Jarlig
Ivan the Terrible
Alexander Nevsky
Collector of Russian lands
Rus' people
That's a decent collection of links!
But okay, sometimes I misclick and open a link as a new tab outside the group. Annoying. I try to read rid of these pages first. Except...
Sometimes the topic of that article ends up being really interesting. And then I accidentally start a new rabbit hole.
At some point in the Russian history rabbit hole, I opened an article related to the Middle East. Can't remember what the original one was, but one way or another I ended up reading about the Phoenicians. Whoops. That's a new rabbit hole.
Currently, it's more of a Carthaginian tab group. It looks like this:
Tartessos (via Cadiz, via Carthage, which is the ~actual~ tab. I'm just accidentally on a brief several week break from Carthage)
William Martin (Royal Marines officer) - This is a fake persona created for a dead body for the Allied Operation Mincemeat during WWII. It's linked from the article on Huelva, which I've already read and closed.
Medellín, Spain
Girsu - This is an ancient Sumerian city, still hanging around from when this group was about Phoenicians.
Abydos, Egypt - Similarly as Girsu. This is still hanging around because the article looks really interesting, and I want to savour it.
Short and sweet! Except...
I accidentally opened a tab about Mount Cameroon (which is because of Carthage, I swear). Well, no problem. Just read and close it quickly. It's a depressingly short article.
There's just one thing. I am fascinated by volcanoes. Oh no. Some link hopping later, I have another tag group. It's the one I'm currently trying to read away. It looks like this:
2021 European floods - via Eifel, a mountain range in Germany, which is volcanically active (yes, really! I'm fascinated/horrified).
Khyber Pass
Matronae Aufaniae
Ahr Valley
At least this is definitely not long and I'm definitely not going to be allowed to open tabs, this is not relevant to any rabbit hole I'm currently in, it's just my vulcanophobia and river obsession misbehaving.
And that's it. I have to finish reading these articles (but not necessarily closely) because I'm trying to stay accountable to myself and actually complete things.
This is a cry for help.

The Academic Blog: 7
In this blog, we are going to talk about politics, diversity, inclusion, and theories of race and gender.
Politics and Race in Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry
Introduction:
The main game, "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag," has an expansion (DLC) called "Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry." Adewale, a character first seen in "Black Flag," is the main focus of this DLC, which offers a unique story that examines racial, political, and social themes—particularly those related to slavery and freedom. Players are invited to navigate the stormy waters of the Caribbean in the 18th century, where the story sensitively combines concepts of politics and race. We set out on a journey to investigate how "Freedom Cry" carefully addresses the complicated intersections of politics and race within the boundaries of its immersing gameplay and the story. "Video games such as the successful Assassin's Creed series allow consumers to engage with various historical contexts and explore in the most engaging and influential ways." (Burgess and Jones, 2021)
Tumblr media
The Journey of Adewale: The Story of Racial Identity
The protagonist of "Freedom Cry" is an African-American character named Adewale, who was born into slavery. As players lead Adéwalé through the dangerous seas of the Caribbean, the game explores his racial identity problems. The realistic portrayal of the ethnic landscape and the immersive storytelling convey the spirit of a time when a person's cultural background often determined their fate.
“You have the brand of a slave, the eloquence of a scholar, the hands of a sailor, and an assassin’s hood."
The protagonist of the game is described in this way, addressing past issues that add interest to Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry. The game offers players the opportunity to participate in a story about masters and slaves, victims and heroes, tools and agents, situated somewhere between the worlds of fictional creation and historical reference. (Bazile, 2021)
Tumblr media
Resisting the Chains: Political Activism Amidst Oppression
The narrative of the game centers on Adewale's transformation from a slave to an assassin. His battle evolves into a wider-ranging political rebellion against the slavery system. By completing missions meant to free other slaves and overthrow plantations, players actively participated in the fight against the institutional racism that shaped the political climate of the day.
Tumblr media
Colonial Power Dynamics: Exposing Past Truths"
The game allows for an open discussion of the political dynamics of the Caribbean as a colonial space. European attempts to take advantage of the people and resources of the region cultivated racial hierarchy and injustice in society. Adéwalé questions the established political order of the colonial powers by upending these power dynamics.
The Political Act of Liberation: The Pursuit of Social Justice
Adewale's mission has expanded to encompass political liberation and the protection of rights for those who experience systematic, racism-based oppression, going beyond just surviving. Players are encouraged to reflect on historical injustices and draw parallels between them and contemporary struggles through the game's poignant commentary on social justice issues.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
One of the best examples of how video games can tell stories and critique society is "Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry." By carefully combining themes of politics and race, the game invites players to engage with historical reality while helping to develop an awareness of the complexity inherent in the intersections of these two areas. In doing so, "Freedom Cry" entertains and enlightens viewers at the same time, leaving a lasting effect on those who accompany Adewale on his journey across the rough waters of the Caribbean.
