Ludwig having Othello got me thinking about the other koopalings’ kids. This is what I think it’d be(I 100% agree with Othello, btw. Best baby):
Larry- he’d end up a (amicably) divorced dad of a little Koopa that he named Lucy(she’d probably be a literal mini-him).
Morton- I can see him adopting multiple Toads(6 girls and 1 boy, opposite gender to him and the other Koopalings, but same personalities). We’d have Laura, Marlow, Winston, Ivy, Renée, Lolly, and Linda.
Wendy- happily married(I’d say to Pom Pom or another member of the Koopa kingdom) but no kids. They’d probably have a pet Yoshi or something though.
Iggy- single, kid less, and happy! He’d probably have A BUNCH of Chain Chomps. He’s a Chain Chomp dad!
Roy- most likely, him and his boyfriend would adopt four kids(three boys(one Toad named Thomas, one Monty Mole named Ricky, and one human kid named Mikey) and one girl(I hatched Paratroopa). They literally just, like, found these four and said “we’re fathers now”….Like Bowser probably did with him and his siblings.
Lemmy- I can see him going one of two ways. Staying single like Iggy or finding someone and having twins(one boy and one girl named Rhythm & Blues in reference to Hip & Hop).
And then theres Othello who’s probably gonna be the coolest cousin ever.
I haven't thought about many of the future kids, but I love these ideas! Just a few changes I'd make in this au:
Lemmy is aroace like Iggy, so he's more likely to also become a chomp dad as well.
Pom Pom and Hariet are already dating, but I might have Wendy and Vivian be a trans lesbean couple when I introduce Vivian :3
I have actually thought of future Roy × Rango quite a bit, and decided that Rango would likely birth their children!
Idk about AGABs or names yet for anything quite yet, but I love your thoughts on how Othello's future cousins (and just the future of the Koopalings in general) might turn out! :3

Little Book Review: Just Like You
Author: Nick Hornby.
Publication Date: 2020.
Genre: General fiction.
Premise: In 2016 London, Lucy, a white forty-something divorced teacher with two young kids, strikes up an unexpected romance with Joseph, a twenty-something black man juggling various childcare/coaching/retail jobs with his songwriting/DJ ambitions. Also, the Brexit vote is happening.
Thoughts: Nick Hornby was one of the first non-YA authors I regularly read as a kid; maybe he was the very first whose books weren’t assigned for school and/or pilfered from my mom’s collection. His novels were ideal for a girl who loved romantic comedies, had a decent working knowledge of pop music history, and enjoyed chick lit at the more down-to-earth end of the scale (more Jennifer Weiner than Plum Sykes). In fact, his novels were basically chick lit, regardless of the gender of his protagonists. They were funny, relatively light-hearted stories of contemporary life, written in a conversational style, and if they sometimes strayed into heavy territory, so did the works of Jennifer Weiner and Lolly Winston and Anna Maxted.
Now chick lit has fallen out of favor as a term, and those kinds of stories seem to live on primarily in the type of contemporary romance novel that comes with Corporate Memphis cover art. As a fan of historical romance and a once-avid reader of chick lit, I have not found this trend particularly enjoyable, although I fully admit I haven’t given the genre much of a chance. Just Like You has a Corporate Memphis-ish cover, and from the Goodreads reviews it seems like it captured a decent percentage of today’s contemporary romance market. This was probably good for sales, but only to a point, because on the whole these readers seem disappointed. It’s not really that kind of book. Oh, it meets the formal requirements: it’s focused on a romance, and the couple ends it happy and together. It’s just not presented as a given that the reader should want the romance to come about, which is something that a reader generally does look for in a romance. I personally came away thinking that Joseph and Lucy’s relationship was a positive thing for both of them; however, the narrative invites a lot of questions about whether and why they should get together. This isn’t better or worse than what most romance novels do, but it is different.
So, is it good? I actually really liked the romance parts. The initial flirtation between them is especially well-done, light and funny and sexy. I also enjoyed the exploration of the shortcuts people use to make political decisions. Joseph, a curious and open-minded young man, has people with various strong opinions (idealistic, pragmatic, xenophobic, etc.) about the Brexit vote in his life, but very few of them can explain the ramifications. Even Lucy, strongly Remain, admits that she initially made up her mind because the Leave people seemed like assholes. She’s not wrong, but she’s not especially well-informed. The exploration of race and class, in contrast, is a little rote. Nick Hornby is neither black nor a woman, and it feels like he’s playing it safe.
Hot Goodreads Take: “In Joseph and Lucy he has created two characters that are as unlikable, as stupid, as worthless, as unambitious as any two characters you could ever think to encounter,” opines one reviewer, who makes liberal use of “Woke” as a pejorative. Surely he has encountered characters less ambitious, at least? One time I heard of a movie where a guy doesn’t leave his couch even to go to the bathroom.

"The GRIEF was already up. It is an early riser, waiting with its gummy arms wrapped around my neck, its hot, sour breath in my ear. Now it follows me down the hall to the bathroom, tapping my shoulder the whole way. Try to pick up your toothbrush, it says." ~from GOOD GRIEF, a novel by Lolly Winston. ~igustav7272 on Tumblr

Me for You by Lolly Winston
Bee wouldn’t be there when he got home. It wouldn’t be as though one of them had merely gone on a business trip and now they each brimmed with stories to share. Bee was never coming back. Rudy was a widower. He wasn’t sure what other definitions applied to him now.
As the anniversary of Bee’s death approaches Rudy suddenly can’t seem to manage. He spends days in bed, calls in sick to work and can’t make himself eat. His daughter suggest a stay in the hospital under doctors care might make him feel better. This novel was a sweet, sad and yet uplifting look at how death and grief affects us all differently.
Lolly Winstons books are always about grief in one form or another. Good Grief was her first novel and one of the few books I reread this year. It was sad and funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. I loved both of them.

Alex Rider tag game
favourite book: Snakehead if RR doesn't count because otherwise it would absolutely be RR
favourite short story: White Carnation
books or TV series: I started with the TV series and that's where my heart will always lie despite the many many things I love about the books (namely the whump)
favorite character: Yassen obviously. I love Alex but I am always unwell for assassins/snipers
favourite villain: Winston Yu, for being such an anglophile it weirded Alex out, and for being the only villain who didn't just decide to kill Alex because he was a nuisance but also tried to profit from his very slow and rather disturbing death.
Tagging: @beretta--92, @known-concepts, @turtlesnails, @strangesoulmates, and @lolli-says-stuff and anyone else who'd like to do this!

So-
I had my sister (who has not yet read the series) rate, name and describe a few of the characters based off fan art alone (100% credit to the artists, I got all the art off google so I don’t know all who made what I’m so sorry) anyway here’s her verdict:
Jude
Solid 9/10
Here name is like... Marissa, or...Daphne, like a strong feminine name.
She is strong-willed, but lovable, um...Feisty but unwilling to listen to a man.
Taryn
(Without missing a beat:) 3. That’s a solid 3. I hate her eyes- I hate her face, not to the artist, artist did an AMAZING job, she’s just...horrible, the whole person.
Her name is like...something tiny like...like tiny and feminine like Annete.
She’s a wuss. She’s a wimp like a man tells her what to do she’s like “ok daddy”. Like no backbone whatsoever. She stands to the side of the throne and just stands there looking pretty like that’s her job. Yeah.
Vivi
10/10.
Her name is like Ingrid. Or Astrid. Something cool.
She’s a boss. She don’t take no crap from no man. She’s like a seductress like “ooh, come hither~” you know? But when she gets them there, she chops off their heads. I like her!
Cardan
Ugh a sissy. He is a...7. He looks like a 7, I feel like that feels right.
His name is...(she’d heard his name once before) it starts with a C right? Conrad? Like Dom...Domitri? Conrick? Sedrick?
He’s basic. He’s like...he does his duty, but is kinda like...meh. He got no ~flavor~ like, he’s just like a normal character I guess? He has pretty piercing eyes, he’s like...staring into my soul, turn the photo away, ok? I’m scared, next!
Locke
Is that a dude or a woman?? Oh my- don’t tell me!...(I told her) oh it’s a guy ok, well then he.. is a 2. He’s very ~pretty~ if we are doing feminine pretty, he’s a 9, if we are doing like masculine then he’s a 2, 1 1/2.
His name is something faerie-like...like- HE’S the Sedrick! Or like...Winston. I don’t know!
He’s a Lolly-jolly kinda guy, he like hops around like “ooh-hoo, what-ith with you?” He’s chill, he hangs out in his bungalow all day. He eats his pizza- no he doesn’t eat pizza, he eats like shellfish (oh. My. God.) and drinks Mike’s hard lemonade... I don’t know, he’s confusing me- he’s sexually confused.
Nicasia
Oh wow. The hair- GAH! This is the queen- however the blonde one (Vivi) should have been queen. She is a 7. She’s very pretty but her attitude- that back arch? Takes her down like three notches.
Her name...I’m running out of names, her name is Lucinda. That’s good.
She’s just a b*tch. Don’t really like her. She’s snobby like...*cue various gagging noises* but also like...respect to the woman, power to her. Do the job a man couldn’t do.
The Bomb
Solid 11/10! Absolutely love her, the best kind of person.
I don’t even have a name for her, she’s too cool. I couldn’t even dare guess her name. I love her. Her name is like, Maze. She’s giving off solid Maze vibes. Does she- are those butterfly wings? Oh I thought they were knives ok not as metal- butterflies are metal though, they can eat dead bodies so she’s metal. Love the hair.
She takes orders but isn’t afraid to stand up ya know, like when she’s on the job and faced with conflict, she’ll do what she thinks is right. And she has the armor so she’s giving off warrior vibes. Like head solider. Dope.
So that was her take- I am SO ready for her to read this series good lord.

Past Lives of Old Books And Other Essays, by R.B. Russell, Tartarus Press, 2020. Cover image by Joseph Simpson, info: tartaruspress.com.
R.B. Russell’s collected essays range from a discussion of authors from Arthur Machen to Donna Tartt, from Robert Aickman to Alain-Fournier, and from Denton Welch to Katherine Burdekin, taking in classic supernatural fiction, erotic decadence, biographical and dystopian fiction, though to poetry, bibliography and reference books. Russell also deals with books themselves—as physical objects to be collected and whose individual histories may be speculated upon. There are essays on book collecting, book-shops, bookdealers and bibliographers, through to the tiny booksellers’ labels that can often be found stuck in the front of older books. Past Lives of Old Books is an evocative exploration of books and book collecting, with occasional forays into authors and characters who may not exist, music and films.

Since it seems as though Everything Is Happening Right Now then I suppose I’m back on here and doing something I was tagged in what seems like eons ago (thanks @ilwinsgarden !)
Pick 5 shows - rather than going for the usual suspects, I’m going to pick 5 things I’ve watched recently:
Peep Show
New Girl
Spaced
Ghosts
Fresh Meat
And yes I am very aware that these are all in varying places on the spectrum of comedy show about housemate shenanigans but moving past that...
Who is your favourite character in 2? Winnie the Bish!
Who is your least favourite character in 1? I mean...surely part of the appeal is that they’re all terrible
What is your favourite episode of 4? I’ll pick a fave from series 2 since that’s what I was watching, so I think I’ll go for the one with the burglars since it was nice seeing the ghosts interact with Mike for a change (and I know I said s2 but the one looking at Pat’s past in s1 was also great)
What is your favourite season of 5? I think series 2? you properly know the characters, Sabine arrives, but tbh I enjoyed all 4!
Who is your favourite couple in 3? are there any couples? oh wait yeah there’s not-Jim the artist and the friend (I’m realising now I can’t remember a single name from the show) but I think I’ll have to go for *checks imdb* Tim and Daisy, even though they’re only a fake couple
Who is your favourite couple in 2? idk, they’re all pretty wholesome but rn I’m enjoying Cece and Schmidt, and Winston and Ally
What is your favourite episode of 1? oh man there’s a lot but I’ll probably go with the wedding one, at least so far
What is your favourite episode of 5? I thought the one with Vod’s mum was heartbreaking as really well done
What is your favourite season of 2? I think I’ll go with 2 or 3 but I’m finding them pretty consistent tbh
How long have you watched 1? I started watching a few episodes every week with my housemates a few months ago when they were shocked to find out I had never seen any lol
How did you become interested in 3? It was a show I knew about and thought I would probably enjoy but just never got round to watching it until recently! I did know it was Edgar Wright but I had forgotten when I started watching (and was then reminded by...everything about the first episode)
Who is your favourite actor in 4? ooooh tricky, they’re all so brilliant as their characters but I think I’ll go for either Jim Howick or Lolly Adefope
Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? oh they’re all quite different (when it comes to comedy shows about housemate shenanigans at least) - I think Fresh Meat? it’s tricky because there’s so much more of the other two, especially New Girl, but I think Fresh Meat edges slightly ahead of the other two
Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3? Peep Show, simply because it is an anomaly and in more typical britcom style, Spaced has a whopping total of 14 episodes
If you could be anyone from 4, who would you like to be? Well I’d like to be alive so that narrows it down somewhat lol - it’s a tricky decision between Mike (knowing there are ghosts there and not being able to keep track of them, but also not being pestered by them) and Alison (being pestered near-constantly but being able to talk to the ghosts and help/use them)....I think I’ll go with Mike, I’d be fine with just seeing the ghosts in the house but Alison has to deal with them everywhere
Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? Spaced except Daisy can see the gaggle of ghosts living in their flat? oh absolutely!
Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? oh I would’t inflict any of them on each other lol
Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? neither really has a storyline since they’re both fairly episodic sitcoms, but I guess Fresh Meat does follow them on the journey through uni so I’ll give this one to them
Which has better theme music, 2 or 4? New Girl gets credit for (originally at least) having an actual theme song but this one has to go to Ghosts
I don’t know who’s already done this so if you fancy it then consider yourself tagged!
