More art today because I actually got a tiny backlog to get through. Also new character, Xion, the (non-canon) child of Xezbeth and Iolanthe who once again belong to my pal @ulqlume. Io and Xez are Very Aesthetic(tm) together and have uhhhhhh a lot going on lol. In short I love them and I love shipping them even though Io’s toxic ass would make it a really bad relationship. In canon they are “best friends”, more like frienemies with poor Xez just trying to navigate n figure out life and his own toxic behavior stemming from trauma and an ass upbringing (or more the lack of it), while Io is just a horrible enabler making it worse due to his own broken mind and selfish mentality. So yea, it’s bad and they eventually split because of it. But, love me some AUs so at least there is one version of the story where they’re married and that dumbass butterfly had therapy, and so they got their lil baby Xion. Can’t believe me joking about em having pretty babies resulted in a wholearse character eventually, but I love them, Xion is very precious and just trying to do their best. Lil genderfluid scorpio-butterfly w moff genes sprimkled on top. Hopefully I get to do a full ref, just got way too many ideas to juggle atm.

Hi madam owl! Hope you're having a wonderful day!

I saw the ask about Luke pining for din while din is getting married to someone else for the sake of Mandalore/the republic, and couldn't help but think "what about the opposite?"

Let's say this is a slight variation of the Luke from your "hope" story where he is an imperial prince or heir. Maybe palps forced Luke to marry a moff or another high ranking official for political purposes. Luke's husband isn't at all in love with Luke, more like just possessive/obsessed with him because of his beauty, and while he's not a complete asshole to Luke, he isn't a great husband overall and Luke is miserable.

At this point maybe din is already Mand'alor, and somehow Luke is captured by some Mandos and taken before din so that Luke will be a hostage. Of course din has an instant love at first sight moment when he sees Luke, and while Luke also develops feeling for the Mand'alor, he feels like he's not allowed to be happy with din since he's practically a prisoner of the empire and unfortunately already married (even if he is not in love with his husband). Cue soft but kinda dark din trying to convince Luke to marry him, a whole "Helen of Troy" plot happening in the background as Luke's husband is enraged that someone else has Luke, and Luke just being stuck in the middle lol. Any further thoughts?

(also, while Vader is similar here to the Vader in "hope", he did not want Luke to be married off; he couldn't stop the wedding however and has been secretly planning to have Luke's husband killed bc of how miserable he makes Luke)

oooh that is such a fun idea! I love the idea of them falling in love at first sight but Luke is so broken and small and just tries to just be a good boy of a prisoner, cause he doesn't know how else to function, and yet this king is just wanting to marry him and make things better for him.

This massive galactic war is happening because Din is not about to let Luke go...Luke will be the consort of the Mand'alor. A queen of Mandalore, if you will.

Vader starts to work a bit more in the shadows to support Din...but mostly himself and Luke. He has Luke'a actual husband assassinated and makes it look like it was the Mandalorians that did it.

The Mandalorian Chapter 12 Reactions: Mando goes on a self care sidequest with friends and now the Razor Crest can fly again

- before we talk about ANYTHING else I have to mention once again:

- that opening scene was Everything; I have had exactly this type of conversation with my dad so many times when I was a kid and he was fixing up our about-to-fall-apart house (though he’s an electrician so he wouldn’t have let me within fifteen kilometers of anything electrical that was still powered lol. it’s okay tho let’s just assume that star wars tech has extra fail safes for these things that we don’t, the baby is clearly fine)  

callout post for Din Djarin: does not own furniture, literally sits on a crate in the middle of the cargo hold to eat dinner, has presumably been living like this for decades, help him

I’m emotional over how casually protective he is with things like this, and that he showed signs of it even before meeting the baby (he’s also the last one to stay behind on the platform to make sure the rest of them make it out safely before they start running.... your honor im love this man more than anything he is Dad)

- I am entranced by the difference between din’s fighting style in the last episode -- when he was continually on the back foot and out of sync with the people he fought with -- and in this episode, where he’s back in one man army mode. (he does take on sort of a protective role when he fights with friends -- he’s not quite fighting with them all the time he’s more like a shepherding dog circling them and making sure they’re okay lol) turns out he fights much better with -- for! -- people he actually trusts and knows and likes and who aren’t manipulating him huh :)   

- the mythrol dude says in the first episode that he’s a ‘fledgling’, and it makes everything about him so much funnier when you assume he’s his species equivalent of a teenager/twentysomething fsdfsdjkfhsd (he oh so 100% sold din out at the beginning there tho :( the most charitable interpretation is that he didn’t quite know the scope of it -- he did seem just as surprised as the rest of them that gideon isn’t dead, so maybe he thought that weird alien mechanic dude wanted to know about the crest for more mundanely nefarious reasons?)

they are kind of shitty towards him tho I feel a bit bad for him haha 

- at least din knows moff gideon is still alive now and can take appropriate precautions as far as possible? on the other hand he doesn’t know about the tracker and I am so scared help  

- man I wish gina carano wasn’t such a godawful person so I could appreciate cara dune’s overarms and interesting character development in peace but as it stands... yeah 

- @ all the people whining about when we get to ahsoka... meet me in the ring for dishonorable combat I am smol and sort of skinny these days but I have decades of pent up rage and no compunctions about fighting dirty on my side lol 

listen... I love ahsoka as much as the next person, but we already have two shows’ worth of content for her. just let me have my thirty minutes a week of slice of life dad and baby nonsense without it being overshadowed by Plot and more established characters okay (and also if the rumours are right about who is going to play her... double  y e a h  that’s going to be fun to navigate emotionally :/)    

- I actually really liked that they went back to nevarro to answer some old questions (where did those empire dudes even come from?? what’s going on with pershing and why am I so weirdly happy to see him again when clearly he is bad news??? what do they need the baby for exactly? how are cara and greef but mostly greef now sadly doing?) and update that whole storyline a bit, while opening even more questions. also stop midichlorian-counting yodito’s blood you fucking creeps

the (likely) midichlorian mention didn’t bother me that much because this show already thrives on the tension between the mythic and mystical and the weirdly mundane and realistic, it’s the one star wars thing I trust to handle the Force the same way without losing the magic of it

- seeing the armorer’s forge like that was honestly upsetting to me haha, I know the forge isn’t what makes her what she is but still

greef karga is a huge bitch and I like him so much

I do like greef’s character growth, though -- it feels a bit like some older and more idealistic (well comparatively) part of him has finally gotten out from under the empire’s boot and restored itself, it’s sweet. he’s doing administrative things that have the whole town blooming! there are plants and living things thriving there now! he wants to establish a safe trading hub!

- f for this poor harried new republic officer, captain carson teva, who along with trapper wolf is apparently responsible for policing the entire outer rim haha

I like the complicated tension between him and the other characters here -- both sides have very good reasons to hold the points of view they do and it’s easy to see why it’s so hard for them to work together but at least this guy is trying to be fair about it     

- the way they all immediately agreed when din went straight into ‘get. baby. NOW everything else is secondary’ dad mode and let him go off on his own even tho he would probably have been real useful to have around T______T friendshipppp

the way he was like ‘free cookies! (everything’s free if you steal it #baby yoda life hacks) helping dad with stuff! high speed dog fights! BEST! DAY! EVER!’ through the whole scene right up until he was finally sick but it’s okay because dad is here and will fix it even while he’s driving... don’t even look at me I can’t

Amazing how this episode was just 5 minutes long of Din and Grogu on the Razor Crest together. A bold narrative choice, but an excellent one. And absolutely nothing bad happened to any of them!

The Mandalorian: Chapter 16

Okay here goes because I CANNOT FUCKING CONTAIN MY EMOTIONS RIGHT NOW. tHIS FINAL EPISODE OF THE SEASON WAS EVERYTHING AND I AM STILL SCREAMING. 

Screaming spoilers beyond the line.

Okay so it’s going to be just about the last 10 minutes because honestly this is why I am screaming about. The whole fucking episode was aMAZING and omg how did they do it in just 40 minutes wTF it felt like one of the original movies like it does feel like it takes place there but with better vfx if that’s even possible because the original trilogy was aces for being in the late 70s and 80s but that’s another subject. 

This is not at all an objective review or post because I cannot stop thinking about how fucking gOOD THIS IS

AN ALL GIRL TEAM LEADING THE CHARGE AND TAKING THE WHOLE SHIP BY THEMSELVES?! OMFG BRILLIANT!!!!! THE WHOLE THING WITH THE SABER??? Haven’t caught up with Rebels or Clone Wars but I saw enough seasons to understand what Bo-Katan’s mission was and why her obsession with it and poor Din just being like “Take it” and not understanding a thing about how it works and Moff just taunting her, it surprises me how she didn’t kill him right there and then and omg it has so many potential for the next season I get so excited just thinking about it. 

But what really started this whole post is the last 10 minutes... The structure of that moment was so fucking spectacular *chef’s kiss* it’s so overdone but it gets me everytime because that is motherfuckin good storytelling. I know I give Jon Favreau a lot of shit but that man has it nail down. He’s slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite screenwriters (And director even tho he didn’t directed this one that was all the brilliance of Peyton Reed which wOW! ant man anyone????)  The overdone beautiful perfect storytelling im talking about is the “All seems lost” or “The Darkest Hour” memory serves me so bad right now but I’ve studied it in film school and I’ve seen it in enough films to know what’s coming. Now it may seem that what happens next its an ex-machina but it isn’t at least this doesn’t feel like this to me! 

We’ve made theories since the episode with Ahsoka when she says “There aren’t many Jedi left” we knew, we felt, we prayed and we hoped. Every indication was pointing towards him and still the minute it as announced the ship approaching was an X-Wing I knew. I’ve been let down so many times with endings of tv-shows and movies that I no longer held hope that he would show up but they said X-Wing and I knew it!!! 

Then the black cape, the green lightsaber! (though the first time the light saber appeared on screen it was white I knew that once the shot followed him it was going to be green) the black glove on the right hand, and the skills!! I never doubted for a second that it was Luke the one that came to save them. 

bUT THE WHOLE SEQUENCE OF LUKE DESTROYING THE DARK TROOPERS!! Was it just me or did it look like Darth Vader killing off every rebel in that last shot in Rogue One? Because it fucking looked like that, black cape and all and oh mY FUCKING GOD IT WAS BRILLIANT!! I can’t wait to see the gifs and the comparisons. 

AND THE WHOLE ENDING FUCKING DESTROYED ME! GROGU ASKING PERMISSION FROM HIS DAD!!! SOFT DIN TAKING OFF HIS HELMET AND FUCKING CRYING!!!!! THE BEBE BEING SO FUCKING CUTE WHEN HE FINALLY SAW HIS DAD’S FACE AND CARESSED IT SO SOFTLY??? MAN!! And just to make sure I was dead they show R2!!! COME ONN!!!! YOU KNOW HOW SOFT THAT LOOKED?!?!?!?! Luke (and Moff) recognizing the bond Grogu and Din have towards each other gives me feelings that I cannot write comprehensibly. It was just so goddamn beautiful. 

Now here comes a controversial opinion... 

I wouldn’t mind if the child doesn’t appear anymore... I LOVE HIM, I started watching because of the bebe but hear me out. I know it’s not going to be the last we see of him but I wouldn’t be bothered if we don’t see him again, because their story has been told. DIN FUCKING FULFILLED HIS PROMISE! He was charged with returning the child with his own kind and Luke is that, Luke can train him and we know how that can go. (And how it ended unfortunately) I might change my mind later and I am sad to see them apart of course I am sad, but right now, half an hour after I stopped crying watching the last episode I can tell you, I wouldn’t mind if the child never shows up in an episode again. Now, you take Din out of the show then that’s a big fucking mistake buddy. We saw Din changing so much through these last two seasons and it was because of Grogu. He’ll be forever thankful for that and like the absolute best father that he is he won’t let anyone stand in the way of him visiting his son, alright? Not even Luke Skywalker. akjsdfa

Okay I’m soft, I feel like I’ve got a lot to say still but this is all I can write right now. For me, I doubt anyone would read this lol but I’ve got no one to talk about this brilliant A+ show, it was just perfect!

I’ve never been much of a chihuahua lover (they scare me sometimes), but I have to say Moffe is growing on me lol. Is she mean to strangers? I have to say she’s kinda cute.

No, she’s kinda scared of strangers. Here in the garden she will bark at them but that’s just because this is her territory. When she’s on a leash she never ever barks at anyone. So no, she’s never mean. Just scared poor thing 😔 And she’s considered a ‘big’ (longer and taller) chihuahua, which everyone laughs at cus she’s not exactly big 😜 So happy to hear moffe is growing on you! I’ve heard this from a lot of ppl actually. That they don’t really like chihuahuas but they like moffe 😄 it’s so cool that moffe can have ppl start to change their opinions on chihuahuas. See them in a different light. Now that makes me happy! ♡

Niki Blethers About The Mandalorian S2: ep6:

Spoilers below the cut!

My cat woke me up at 6:30 because she wanted a cuddle and then after fruitlessly trying to go back to sleep for an hour and a half, I gave up and decided to go into this episode on only 5 hours of sleep. I have since had a nap and am drinking coffee as I write this, but if it looks like I completely missed Something Important about this episode....it’s because I probably did haha.😅  

The opening scene was the best part, hands-down. We got to see Din being relaxed and playful, but were also reminded of how he’s starting to feel about this quest--namely that he doesn’t want to see it through. My heart twisted a tiny bit at “DANK FERRIK!” I just really love the way they let Din visibly and audibly soften around Grogu. Already said this before somewhere, but it adds such a nice element of depth to his personality.

That being said, I felt that the rest of the episode was very...clumsy, for lack of a better word, especially in regards to directing. Granted, I haven’t seen any of Robert Rodriguez’ films all the way through since the first Spy Kids when I was an Itty Bitty Lil’ Niki, but from what I have seen, I probably would’ve suggested they give him an episode with fewer emotional beats, since he really seems to mostly shine when it comes to action/movement. 

I really loved the location of this episode. Reminded me of the road trips to Colorado and New Mexico that I used to go on with my family when I was a kid. And I really needed a nice space after the dump where last week’s episode took place. 🥴

I uh....still haven’t really figured out how I feel about Boba Fett. In theory, I was never averse to the idea of him and Din meeting each other, but I was also aware that there was a significant chance that if that happened, Din’s story would be sidelined in favor of fanservice. And uh....yeah this was basically just Fanservice: The Episode. 

What I don’t understand is why this episode needed to be so rushed? Like, I swear there was an entire scene cut out of the middle and like...why? You guys have flexible timestamps here, you couldn’t give us an extra five minutes to show Boba Fett and Din actually forming their alliance? 

Also apparently Boba Fett is an expert in cybernetic implants and replaced Fennec’s damaged internal organs on the fly? I’m sorry, WHAT??? I’m assuming Fennec means Boba Fett found her and brought her to the nearest med center, but it was communicated really poorly, so it made it sound like he just whipped a doctor’s bag and some tubes out of his pocket and performed the transplant surgery himself right there in the middle of the desert. 

Also Fennec’s alive. Probably should’ve seen that one coming. 

The fight choreography was really good. I think I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if they had taken the time to show why these characters are now working together, but whatever. Din shielding Fennec with his Beskar while she sniped over his shoulder was actually really cool to watch. And I did get a certain amount of glee from watching Boba Fett go to town on those Stormtroopers with nothing more than a Pointy Stick. 

I like how nasty and worn they made Boba Fett look. Poor guy reeeeeally looks like he got chewed up and spit out by that Sarlacc, but he owns it. 

I really love that, although the Fetts do not follow the Creed, Din still acknowledges them as Mandalorians for the simple fact that Jango was a Foundling. Adoption and family are such integral parts of Mandalorian culture that they even outweigh the other tenets of the Creed. It’s painting Din’s entire Way in a very positive light, which I massively appreciate. Could we please normalize religious people being very loyal to their codes of honor while still acknowledging the validity of people who don’t and having positive interactions with them? That would be fantastic. 👌

“Okay, I’m gonna protect you!” *snort!* Why does this line sound like it’d be more at home in an awkwardly localized Japanese video game than in a Star Wars production...? Also Din telling Boba Fett not to engage with the Dark Troopers because they have the child in the same tone of voice as you might say “Oh don’t bother with sunscreen, there’s tons of cloud cover out there.” Again, this episode stumbled a lot in terms of direction.

I am one of those people who can get really desensitized to heartache if I’m sleep deprived, so while I wish I could just turn on capslock and keyspam over all the horribleness that went down in this episode, it would not be an accurate representation of my live reactions. That being said, I was pretty Shook when the Razor Crest exploded. I remember thinking “Wait, no...! That’s...that’s our home!” I will probably cry about it for hours once I’ve had a proper night’s sleep lol.

I hope Din punches Moff Gideon right in his stupid smug face.

My initial thought was to rate this about a 7/10, but then I realized that that’s the rating I gave to “The Marshal,” which had much better direction and a tighter plot, so...I guess, maybe bump that one up to a 7.5, and then we’ll say this episode was a 7. 

I’m really sad to admit it, but this season has been struggling to hold on to my attention. I think part of it could just be that I am somehow still in my Tales of Arcadia hyperfixation (yes, I’m as surprised as anyone else about that, normally I can’t last this long without another fandom swooping in to claim my soul). But also I have noticed that this season just doesn’t feel as tight and polished as the first one. Maybe they were given less time to develop it, or maybe studio execs started breathing down Jon and Dave’s necks once they realized the show was profitable, idk. I still really enjoy it, but I’m not as passionate about it as I once was. Such is the nature of fandom life, though.
