More on the power of resurrection as the "apple of discord": Chuck vs Billie.

In Chuck's mind Death is not a problem because he controls space and time... he's actually right. I mean, he's definitely shitting his pants at this point but he has never respected Death enough to be worried about her (and his narrative shows just that since Death dies four times in SPN lol).

Chuck manipulates space and time and he's clearly pro resurrection. In his world people can resurrect either through demon deals or magic. Or if he says so, obvs. There always seems to be a price to pay for this, though, because Chuck is obviously the type of god that likes human suffering "for the plot".

Amara in all her "evillness" has a different point of view on the matter, for her resurrection is a gift. Which is still problematic ("what you are regarding as a gift is a problem for you to solve") but offers a new perspective: no deal, no magic, you need it? You get it.

Then there's Jack whose command of the power is still wobbly but shows all the potential to disrupt Chuck's narrative. His take on resurrection is closer to Amara: he doesn't know it but it's his desire to see Dean getting what he wants that sparkled life back into Castiel. You want it? You get it. Dangerous.

Billie, on the other hand, is NOT part of Chuck's family, so to speak. She's very ambivalent about rules: she doesn't like it when others bend them but she really enjoys being the one who bends them. Her initial affiliation and perhaps romantic connection with Crowley while many reapers "sided" with Castiel in s9 tells us that she has her own specific ideas about basically everything.

When she becomes Death, she doesn't want humans performing resurrection spells because she wants to be the one who decides who lives and who dies, thus taking on a role that is not hers to take.

S14 shows us her hypocrisy brillantly: Dean wants to die but she says that he will live; Rowena wants Crowley back (to which she should have, perhaps, been amenable as per above) but she says NO. She drapes herself behind the "death books" or whatever they're called and the "natural order" for whatever it means in SPN but Rowena calls her out: it isn't fair.

And she's right. Billie ignores Rowena, doesn't care about reapers dying (she even kills one herself) and only shows up because Rowena held Sam hostage and planned on killing him.

What Billie wants, though, is very much in tune with her role as Death: she wants things "as they were", heaven and hell, humans back on the "normal" timeline, "everything in its place and a place for everything" type of mentality. She wants something she can't have in a world where God, who controls time and space, keeps changing the plot.

A mentality that clearly contrasts with her s11 rebellious streak where she would have loved to toss a Winchester into the Empty, reap God and ultimately fucking harvest the Veil for souls! THAT girl had 99 problems but being conservative was not one of them.

So why does she change? Well, becoming Death would do that to a girl but I don't think that's it. I think she kinda likes it, to be honest.

No, my conclusion is based on what she can't stop repeating at least once per season: Castiel stabbed her in the back. Billie is holding a massive grudge that she very wrongly takes on Dean. Well, maybe not so "wrongly" per se since we know why Cas acts like he does, but when she blames Dean for being chaos incarnate and a disruptor of order she's sooo off target.

If there is one character who wants order and "everything in its place and a place for everything" is Dean Winchester.

No, there is one disruptor in SPN and it's Castiel. And HE stabbed her in the back.

And his resurrection (via Jack) is what should have tipped Chuck off (as I've been trying to demonstrate with all these yappings about cas and resurrection).

Basically Chuck's mortal enemy is Jack who bestows or revokes resurrections as he pleases. But he doesn't see him. Billie's mortal enemy is Castiel, creator of cosmic consequences that dismantle the coveted "balance". And she doesn't see him. Like snakes in the grass.

Dawn

She owns a car that she unironically calls Babygirl and that she loves more than anything.

She's also a bit of a reckless driver.

Dawn can't cook.

She's in her mid-twenties and was practically raised by her sibling Vex.

Most of their modifications prior to becoming a law enforcer/cop were taken care of by Dawn.

Her distaste for divinity is a bit spoilery but it isn't exactly new.

Dawn is a bit of a scaredly cat but she's also really good at forcing herself to do things that terrify her kfkskf

A's relationship with VR is really weird lol they use it from time to time and enjoy drawing whatever they see.

They're really good at drawing! It's not a major passion of theirs but it's something they enjoy and it relaxes them.

A loves cutesy things and tends to paint over the very cold and 'boring' designs of technology devices.

Dawn just calls it vandalism.

Vex

Vex and Dawn were never the richest people.

Their parents weren't really in the picture either so it's always been up to V to take care of their sibling.

Vex embodies the spirit of a mother and a father at the same time lol.

But they really give me tired dad™ energy tbh.

Vex loves taking care of their body (they don't enjoy making Dawn take care of herself that much tho).

Because of their many many body modifications, V is considered a cyborg.

Some of these modifications were a necessity. Others were V's choice^^

Eris

Eris became famous through her music when she was 16-17.

It's been a little more than ten years ever since.

And she's still a major example of a contemporary musician everyone knows and loves.

Eris also acts and models. She's beyond busy all the time.

Most don't recognize her when she's wearing one of her wigs tho lol

She's also a bit addicted to VR.

Seth

What fandoms do you write for? Hogwarts Legacy but I'm more currently writing for a different fandom.

Do you respond to comments? Yes. I sometimes forget I have ao3 ngl but 99% of the time I respond to comments on wattpad if I can remember.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Usually I try to give happy endings to stories because I'm that kind of person. So towards the end I'll have something angsty but the very end will usually end on a better note. But In The Shadow of Her has a decently angsty towards the end because it follows along with the game and In The Shadow of Magic has is angstier towards the end for several reasons lol.

What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Honestly--outside of my full fics, my one shot "Moving in" probably has the happiest ending.

Do you get hate on fics? Perhaps??? I'm not really sure. I've gotten a few off-handed comments that make me go "???" and any hate comments have been very rare.

Do you write smut? Lol nope and I never will. I'm okay with writing stories without it.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes. Many times. Me and my old fandom buddies from a long time ago would do it.

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My old fanfics from old fandoms that have just been sitting on my computer for four years LOL.

What are your writing strengths? Fluff, usually. I'm good at Angst too. Romance eehhh kinda?? I've never been in a relationship so I don't really know how it works but I've written several relationships that I think were good.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I used to do this a lot actually. But I doubt 100% of it was correct. Now that I'm older, I definitely hesitate more with it. But I think it's super cool and I planned on doing it for my fics but my MC's first language is Irish (Gaeilge, Irish Gaelic whatever you wanna call it lol) and in the 1800's it was even harder than it is today SOOOO in order to avoid mess ups, I just used one-word expressions most of the time.

First fandom you wrote in? Oh gosh, I can't even remember. Maybe it was Merlin??? Spirit Animals?? I don't even remember cuz it was so long ago.

Favorite fic you've written? My favorite fic is probably not even and HL one LOL. But to keep it HL, all of my books have a special place in my heart and I really can't choose. Some of them have strengths over others and that much is clear but idk if I'd ever be able to choose.

Favorite thing about them: Everything isn't really an answer, is it LOL. Uh! I don't know, I just love his personality a lot. I like how conflicted he is, I like how resigned he is to his fate to the point of willing to sacrifice himself for a scrap of assurance that his family will be safe even if he's dead and gone, I like his stubbornness and how smug he is, I just like his complexity. I also love his animations, they're very fun and charming and I like how many pertain to him messing with his prayer beads-- validating when I like headcanoning that he has OCD and uses the prayer beads a lot in compulsions. Least favorite thing about them: Nothing. Except that he probably will not return in AA7 and I have to live with that knowledge. Favorite line: "In all this time, not once did I reflect on my own conduct-- for I had believed it was my fate. Lost in my resignation, I was unable to wake from my despair." Just, UGH. So good, dude. I love him realizing he's wasted all this time destroying himself and harming others without thinking there was any other way to live or to protect his family and finally recognizing that it's time to start fighting back again. Mannnn. He's the best. brOTP: Barring all his family (including Datz and Apollo) because I love his potential dynamic with Rayfa, I like a potential friendship with him and Simon. They still bully the fuck out of each other but they have an understanding of each other. I like imagining that they just weren't friends one day, then were the next and they never discussed what changed. They just got along and continue to chat every once in a while. I also had a fun idea for post-SOJ after Yuty gets all his old cases overturned or gone over, resigning and becoming a defense attorney, but asking Blackquill to help with the prosecutor's office because thyey still hadn't replaced all the people that resigned, went to jail, or fled the country. I think that's fun. They would have a great rivalry, don't you think? OTP: Ema and Nahyuta like Skyemadhi is IT for me. I love them. I think they have a great dynamic, and Nahyuta clearly really loves and respects her during SOJ. I can't help but think he's got a crush on her and doesn't know how to express it initially, or maybe doesn't even know that's what it is because God forbid he FEELS things. Ema helps him open up and he wants to be a better person because of her, and he'll give her fucking Anything in return. Mainly opportunities for her to expand her scientific knowledge or getting higher positions.

Also when they get married I think they probably sprung for a double-barrelled surname (so Skye-Sahdmadhi) which, since Yuta has been restored to the royal family and she's marrying into it, their full surname is probably like Skye-Sahdmadhi Khura'in, but for ease, people just started calling them Prosecutor or Detective Skyemadhi for short 😭 nOTP: I don't get Apollo/Nahyuta at all. I know in the Japanese version they aren't described as brothers at all, so it's kind of a weird thing because in English they're explicitly read as brothers, but not in the original text, but it's like. I mean, I think it's fine I guess. Regardless of it, to me they have no chemistry romantically. At all. Their dynamic is so extremely platonic that I couldn't read it any other way lol. And I still view them as family myself, even though they may not exactly do so themselves.

I also admit I become less fond of Blackquill and Nahyuta romantically as time goes on, but it's not bad. I just don't particularly like it. Random headcanon: I've talked about this one before, but I imagine that if things got so dangerous that Dhurke had to send Apollo away, that he eventually sent Nahyuta away too. Like I think he probably initially kept Yuty because he couldn't possibly put his blood son away, his only family in the whole wide world, but after Ga'ran steals Amara and Rayfa back a year or so after the Apollo thing, Dhurke finally caves and sends Nahyuta to live at a monastery for safety.

I like imagining that this was before Tahrust Inmee became the high priest, but he was still rebel sympathetic and allowed Nahyuta to stay safely at his little remote monastery. Then, around the time Nahyuta finished his ascetic training at 18, Inmee became high priest and had to move to the capital for his job, so Nahyuta was sent home because they didn't know if the next head monk would be so sympathetic to them, thus leading to Nahyuta pivoting and joining the Dragons for real and then starting his lawyer journey. Unpopular opinion: Not only is Nahyuta overhated, he is a great character. Apparently that's controversial among AA fans KRKFN but like, other than that? I dunno. I don't think he's boring at all, though he's a bit underwritten and doesn't talk enough during some of the trials. Song I associate with them: I made a whole playlist for him, but I should pick out one or two. I think Looking Glass by The Birthday Massacre and Empty Page by The Crane Wives are two great songs that reflect how he's bending himself to be whatever everyone else wants him to be, and that's nothing of him left, if there was any of him to begin with.

I also like What If by Emilie Autumn for the "escaping my abusive situation and changing" vibes for him.

Neil really succinctly summed up the slippery slope of any abusive relationship. How they draw you in, and slowly change you and isolate you from everyone and they start asking things of you and at first you think it's fine, but it becomes more and more and at a certain point you think you might not want to do it but you alrwady did so much else and you don't want them to leave/hurt you so you keep doing it because it feels like there is no other choice.

ooooo ok so my WIP (There'll Be Peace When You Are Done)(TBPWYAD) is currently written/published in past tense BUT i also have future chapters I'm working on that are in present tense (I do have a writer reason for it in my head but that's not what this question is for lol) so let me see if I can get you a two-for-one deal here.

With "blinked": There was a buzzing. Dean blinked, how long had he been sitting here, staring at nothing? Staring at where Cas had been. He lifted the phone he had forgotten in his hand. The screen lit up, showing Sam was calling.

With "blinks" (a little treat from the yet-to-be-published): Dean blinks and opens his mouth, but no sound comes out. He looks to the ground then up at Amara, visibly connecting the dots. “So all that ‘Hero’s Luck’ crap…” he trails off, unsure how to finish that statement.

29. What's your revision or editing process like?

oh boy that is a tough one. I do a lot of revising/editing as I write (which I know I shouldn't do but it happens) which ofc means I write a lot fucking slower. But when I finish writing a chapter/section/one off that will mean going back and reading it all again to make sure everything makes sense, look for foreshadowing I've put in, see if I've made any plotholes, and mainly any grammar/spelling. Then I'll send it to my lovely-god-i-love-them-they-put-up-with-so-much betas and get their feedback then go through it again, see what I agree with, what I don't, what I have questions on. Then double check with them on those revisions (if it's like adding something to make sense or go more in depth) then rush off to publish it to ao3 before it sits in my over-thinking box forever.

41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

Not to sound like the disaster bisexual that I am, but a little bit of both. There are fics I treasure close to my heart that I will absolutely go back and reread over and over, and there's other fics that I love but I let them go to the archive of my brain. 1. Marenol

Her design is.....definitely a lot more heavily influenced by the girl in the bga of the song. She experiences nightmares where she Literally Die In Different Ways. Get it now? The lines underneath her eyes are supposed to be eyebags because honestly, I can imagine her staying up late at night on purpose just so that she doesn't get those nightmares again and again, but of course, these attempts always fail lmao. Poor girl needs a break :(

2. Conflict

This is more of a concept for a redesign of her, because I'm Not a big fan of her current design. I've considered not making her a God anymore, but again, I'm considering it. So we'll see.

3. Integral

I think that's how you type the name in english. Anyways if you don't know what song Integral is supposed to be, she's a Project Sekai song. Yeah. You read that right. I've considered Tondemo Wonderz, IDSMILE, and even Amara, but NO. INTEGRAL BECAUSE I LOVE LEO/NEED RRRRAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH. Also the World Link songs' (idk what to really call them honestly) designs are definitely going to be heavily inspired by the actual World Link event's card sets. So yeah lol. I'm in love with L/n's WL set <3

4. Halcyon

Bird. Idk what else to say other than the fact that I felt like recycling Pandora's old design for Halcyon because I think it'd fit her more better.

5. Ruin

AWAKEN IN RUIN AAAAAAAAAAAAA. Yeah this is another Paradigm Reboot song. You can never escape P:R when I'm around :) her design is very heavily inspired by Para's design, even though her personality....doesn't really line up with Para's personality. But anyways yeah lol.

I feel like I should be posting more original content. I’ve been here for so long, posting original content analyzing every detail of this show, and posting literally millions of words on the subject, and the show has gone and done exactly the thing I’ve been writing about, confirmed in text that the story I’ve been watching in the subtext is really the story they were telling all along.

And I could be posting gleefully about the beauty of the most intense metanarrative, the absolute bananapants layers of meta in any piece of media I’ve ever consumed in my 46 years. From the self-referential and universe-bending plotlines to just how deeply embedded ALL of this has become as the central core narrative of the final season, as the characters grapple with what is even real when they’ve been characters in a story beyond their control or understanding for so long only to come so close to earning their freedom and “becoming real” by using their OWN words and declaring for themselves their truth and their happiness and their love.

It’s... mind boggling that everything I’ve ever written about this show is coming back around in a final grand swoop of the narrative arcs that I honestly don’t know what else I can do aside from waving one hand at canon and inviting everyone to just read the entirety of this stupid blog while looking smugly satisfied with myself.

It’s about love. The whole story is, was, and always will be about love. And not just destiel, but the whole damn show. The character of Dean Winchester, for all the jokes about being emotionally constipated, is essentially the embodiment of selfless love and has been since the start of the show. But because of the story itself, he had to become hardened to it, to accept that it wasn’t something he could have for himself if he lived the life he did. And yet he never let that destroy him, despite now understanding that that’s exactly what Chuck spent the last 15 years (and really the entirety of Dean’s life) attempting to do-- to break him for the sake of the story.

Cas’s confession in 15.18 wasn’t just about how Cas loves Dean, but why. Cas, the only version of Castiel in any of Chuck’s infinite universes who broke free of Heaven’s command, did so because of the love he saw in this selfless but self-hating man. Years of crack posts about Dean breaking angels cannot even begin to touch how deep this goes.

One line in Cas’s monologue about Dean thinking of himself as “daddy’s blunt instrument” was a line from season THREE, before Cas ever even MET Dean Winchester and began to know him. It was a phrase that had never been spoken aloud in reality. It happened literally inside Dean’s dream, where he knew he was doomed to go to hell and was confronted by the demon version of himself. Dean said this line TO HIMSELF, IN A DREAM, TWELVE SEASONS AGO. And then yelled down that demon-dream version of himself with this:

DREAM DEAN: Dad knew who you really were. A good soldier and nothing else. Daddy's blunt little instrument. Your own father didn't care whether you lived or died. Why should you?

DEAN: Son of a bitch!

DEAN pushes DREAM DEAN hard, knocking him into the wall above the desk.

DEAN: (screaming angrily) My father was an obsessed bastard!

DREAM DEAN tries to get up and DEAN kicks him down on the desk again. DEAN holds the weapon as a bat and hits DREAM DEAN once and then pins him to the wall with it.

DEAN: All that crap he dumped on me, about protecting Sam! That was his crap. He's the one who couldn't protect his family. He-

DEAN steps back and swings the weapon again, hitting DREAM DEAN twice.

DEAN: He's the one who let Mom die. who wasn't there for Sam. I always was! He wasn't fair! I didn't deserve what he put on me. And I don't deserve to go to Hell!

DEAN shoots DREAM DEAN twice in the chest. As he lowers the weapon and looking at DREAM DEAN, we see the latter is dead. Blood is splattered on DREAM DEAN's face and his eyes are closed.

And then after that, spoiler alert, he went to hell and Cas pulled him out.

Dean: Right. And why would an angel rescue me from Hell?  Castiel: Good things do happen, Dean. Dean: Not in my experience. Castiel: What's the matter? You don't think you deserve to be saved?

It took him YEARS to truly get past this. He didn’t really get to confront his own father until season 14, in a sort of “It’s A Wonderful Life” sort of episode where he could see what his life might’ve been like if things had turned out differently. And oh, Cas isn’t in his life. But he gets to confront John with his own self-acceptance, his own confidence in the life he’s made for himself and the people (including Cas) who have become his family. He gets to hear from John that he never wanted that life for Dean, and Dean gets to say, well I would choose this life anyway.

Until Chuck’s revelation pulled that rug out from under him. Dean had been-- if not deliriously happy, at least content with his life. Because it was HIS. And then he found out it wasn’t, that Chuck had always been writing the broad strokes of his life, had always been the one throwing catastrophe after apocalypse after cosmic crisis directly in his path because he wanted to watch Dean struggle to save the world yet again, and finally give him the ending to the story that Chuck wanted-- a broken and devastated Dean who’d sacrificed everything for the story yet again. And suddenly NOTHING about anything made sense to Dean anymore, and even Cas showing up in his life and then weirdly sticking around all these years was suspect to him. He trusted nothing, not his choices or his feelings or his own happiness.

But now? We know (and Dean knows) that Cas was one thing Chuck just couldn’t control. That he was never supposed to think for himself and rebel and fall in love with Dean. And Dean knows that too. He knows all of it. And ALL of that just went wooshing through Dean’s central processing unit in the span of two minutes and came up error messages, because it was too late now and Cas was gone again, and there might not be any getting him back this time.

So unless Dabb era has been entirely about destroying everything that was ever good about this show, and about their own storytelling, and the metanarrative and the subtext and the character arcs, making Dean and Cas’s relationship the main emotional arc of the entire season demands that Dean get a chance to answer to this.

If love is truly the ultimate weapon of their salvation, as the show has been screaming since s11, then Dean gets to keep Cas. Because anything less is failure at this point.

I’m sorry I haven’t been replying to many people in my inbox, but honestly I’m too tired to deal with anxiety over how the story will end. I only care about the story, and I’ve written more about it in the last howeverlong I’ve been at this than I can possibly reiterate before the next episode airs. All I can do is point and gawp at the fact that the story is what I have always thought it was, and be content.

So Purgatory Dean/Benny and Summer of Love/Demon!Dean Dean/Crowley stories are structurally very similar and I would even go as far as saying that they are the fundamentally the same but I can't because Dean/Crowley is a deterioration of Dean/Benny in the sense that while Benny did indeed help Dean, even though he had an ulterior motive, their relationship was based on more or less equal footing (Dean had more power in their dynamic) and respect of the terms of agreement.

Both stories have two more characters in them, i.e. Sam and Cas but their function is not the same. While Sam's is a sort of wake-up call for Dean to go back to reality, Cas is the one who bookends these two stories. Both Purgatory arc and Demon!Dean arc are closed when Dean and Cas reunite.

Now.

These two arcs are basically about Dean escaping reality. Which means he doesn't like his reality and probably needs/wants something more, different or for the first time out of it. Purgatory is pure and easy, Crowley's summer of love is fun and free. And yet they both REALLY end when Cas is back into the picture.

Mmmmm.

The fact that Dean wants/needs more and that his heart desires something he can't or doesn't want to admit is not something I'm making up. This is literally the core theme of both s10 and 11. S8 Purgatory is about the realization that there is indeed something that Dean needs and perhaps even wants (he's very adamant about it in Purgatory where he could feel "pure" and where purity means black and white mentality and free killing) but s9 tells him that he can't have that. Not having all of his wants and needs met dangerously leads Dean to a dark path from s9 onwards when he tries to symbolically go back to Purgatory via Mark of Cain (black and white mentality, more black than white lol, free killings without guilt, fake and consuming feeling of being in control of your life if you only have that ONE thing.... ((the blade, the imaginary lover, the stripper etc))). Of course it doesn't work because Purgatory was real but it was also a different place than the everyday world where its rules don't apply (no free killing for you here, Dean. Well, more or less, only your usual).

S11 pointedly ends with Amara telling Dean she gave him something that he needs, his mother. Which is true for all human beings: maternal love is indeed the primary need to be nurtured and cared for. So Amara did learn one thing or two about humans after all. And since we're here, she presumably didn't have to give Dean what he wanted because he could get it himself.

Because if his stints in Purgatory and demonhood were Dean looking for something he needed and wanted that ended when Dean reunited with Cas... and now Dean got what he needed because Amara didn't have to give Dean what he wanted because he could get it by himself... Would that mean?! Yeah, it does.

We're back again to "the one thing I want I know I can't have". It's always about desire, not limited to the physical sense but desire for that something or someone that you want. And maybe even get.

Which made me think of this beautiful poem by Fyodor Tyutchev (ACTUALLY, thinking about this poem made me think of the rest, so this post should be read end to beginning lol):

I would love for you to talk more indepth about the montage. To me it feels so off and weird. Almost like a parody? So many scenes in it are "funny" moments that just don't make sense in the context of an emotional overview of the road so far... (Like all the scenes where Dean is eating, Donna with donut dust on her face, Sam getting hit during the game show.) I don't know. Isn't the montage supposed to make me nostalgic, teary-eyed? This one definitely doesn't do it for me!

Here I am! Yes, I absolutely agree. The montage is Weird(TM). It’s kind of a tone rollercoaster. It’s very full of funny/silly moments, with some serious moments smacked in. And it definitely looks like... there’s something about it.

[Gif 1] It starts pretty much like I’d expect a Supernatural goodbye montage to start. The two brothers meeting for the first time in the pilot, a reminder of their childhood with John, their banter still from the pilot, a couple moments of them driving in the car in the first seasons, Dean saving Lucas in 1x03 which is the first Dean-heavy episode and also an extremely symbolic moment for Dean’s entire journey - just think at how Lucas as a mirror was still relevent during the “drowning” Michael possession arc. Everything feels normal so far. We’re starting from the beginning! Now--

[Gif 2] Interesting and weird choices start here. Them pretending to be high school teachers from After School Special 4x13 - actually a very iconic moment for the fandom, remember that post of Dean in shorts from that episode that you had to reblog when it came on your dash? (Actually I’m not sure if I ever reblogged it lol.) Dean celebrating getting young again from The Curious Case of Dean Winchester 5x07 (and Jensen showing off his agility). The two of them showing their FBI badges to Jesse Turner’s biological mother in 5x06. Dean mowing the lawn of Mary’s house in the Djinn dream and immediately after Jess and Sam kissing also in the Djinn dream, from What Is And What Should Never Be 2x20. Then Dean after killing the witch when he was under the memory loss spell, in Regarding Dean 12x11. Sam happy when they celebrate Christmas in A Very Supernatural Christmas 3x08. Them being “lucky” under the effect of the rabbit’s foot in Bad Day At Black Rock 3x03. Sam also happy in Baby 11x04.

Again the present, then the montage starts again with the water-related ghost from Red Sky At Morning 3x06, a Bela episode, and then Bela herself from her first episode, 3x03 again.

What do these moments have in common? Not all of them, but for many of them I’d say reality being manipulated. The Djinn dream, the rabbit foot, Dean’s aging, the Antichrist... and it’s not over yet. Also, them pretending to be teachers, agents etc - not “real”.

[Gif 3] The tone suddenly gets more serious and relevant to current events: Chuck in The Monster at the End of This Book 4x18 (eh). Death in Two Minutes to Midnight 5x21 (the first appearance of Death, while now we’ve had Billie’s last and a very short-lived new one), and then two major moments from Lazarus Rising - Dean emerging from the grave and finding the handprint on his shoulder. Crowley’s first episode, Abandon All Hope 5x10. Zachariah’s death in Point Of No Return 5x18. Anna from The Song Remains The Same 5x13, where she is the antagonist having been brainwashed successfully by heaven. Michael burning and Sam jumping in the cage with Michael in 5x22, then another moment from 4x01 (the brothers hugging after reuniting). A moment from The French Mistake 6x15 (reality fuckery again!). Sam in Frontierland 6x18.

[Gif 4] Reality fuckery continues with Becky marrying Sam in 7x08. Funnily enough, this is the peak of Becky’s obsessive behavior which she went to therapy for and grew away of - it definitely emphasizes how far Becky has come. Donna’s first appeance in 9x13. That iconic shot of Dean in Bloodlust 2x03 because he’s pretty. Charlie’s first appearance in 7x20 while she dances to Walking On Sunshine (relevant?), Kevin’s first appearance in 7x21 when he becomes a prophet (lots of firsts). Abaddon’s first appearance in As Time Goes By 8x12. Then there’s the first appearance of the bunker, in the next episode, a couple shots in fact. Then more 4x01, Ruby pretending to mistake Dean for the pizza man (eh). Then more present...

This section seems to be mostly “first appearances” - including Ruby’s s4 meatsuit, i.e. Genevieve’s first appearance.

[Gif 5] We suddenly jump to more recent events with Kelly and Jack in heaven in Byzanthium 4x08. Jack’s iconic hello from 4x16 Don’t Go In The Woods. Dean teaching Jack how to drive in 14x07 Unhuman Nature. But then we suddenly go from Jack things to something completely different on the surface: two consecutive moments from Changing Channels 5x08, including the iconic Nutcracker scene, and Sully from Just My Imagination. We are actually back to the previous theme: reality fuckery. Gabriel’s episode was about placing them in “television shows”, Sully, while real, is literally a child’s “imaginary friend”. And then... a moment from the cartoon part of Scoobynatural! It doesn’t get more reality fuckery than that. Oh, wait! Charlie and Dorothy going to Oz in 9x04. That’s a pretty strong contender. Dean being hit in the face by a fairy in 6x09 - also about a realm Dean briefly went to. And, in case we felt like we hadn’t gotten enough 4x01 yet, Pamela’s first appearance (her last, albeit a hallucination, was about the whole “How come you only want what you can't have?” thing).

[Gif 6] We continue again with a mixture of firsts and weird things. Ellen’s first appearance in 2x02, Dean and Cas in 4x18 (we saw Chuck from that episode earlier), Jody’s first appearance in 5x15 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Rufus in 6x04 Weekend At Bobby’s (not his first but a good episode...), Garth in 9x12 Sharp Teeth (not his first but the first in which he is a werewolf and is married... relevant to recent lamp events??), Missouri in 1x09 (her first appearance).

Then Gabriel from 13x21 Beat The Devil (an episode where he plays a trick on Lucifer) and Rowena from the same scene (in fact a scene where they’re flirting).  Then Eileen coming back to life in 15x06 and smiling at Sam. Jo flirting with Dean in 2x02 - her first appearance, again. Funnily enough, she had been introduced as a love interest, but ended up being repurposed as a sisterly figure. Tempted to say it’s relevant in an ironic way. Mary in 14x11 Damaged Goods, when Dean has a goodbye mother-son moment with her. Amara in 11x09 Oh Brother Where Art Thou when she was looking for her brother. Then Lucifer in two different vessels (12x07 Rock Never Dies and 12x21, when Lucifer regains control over the vessel).

Then Metatron doing the find a wife make babies speech to Cas in 8x23! Relevant??? Dun dun dun. Then Ketch for some reason (the first episode where we see his face, 12x08 LOTUS).

Sandwiched between two shots from the present, Dean Sam Mary and John having dinner together in 14x13 Lebanon.

Then we start again with Dean riding Larry in 12x11, Dean and Cas dressed as cowboys in 13x06 (mini pattern here...), Asmodeus with the archangel blade in 13x13 (insert meta about Asmodeus in Christian lore here), and the really intriguing “Intermission” shot from the play in 10x05.

[Gif 8] To continue a certain pattern we might be tempted to see, Dean eating piecake from 14x06 Optimism (an episode about a distorted version of romantic love), then Dean eating noodles from 10x13 Halt & Catch Fire (the ghost is a husband that passes on thanks to his wife). Dean after his dentistry session with Garth in 15x10. Meg from 6x10 Caged Heat (the episode with the pizza man porn). Dean and Sam investigating in 4x12 Criss Angel Is a Douchebag (an episode about growing old poorly). Crowley in 10x16 Paint It Black (that episode). Dean playing that game in 14x17 Game Night (the episode Cas calls for God, and when Mary dies - the one playing the game was God...). Sam and Dean getting out of the car in 13x05 when they visit the traumatized kid (peak mourning Dean episode...). Then we go into reality fuckery territory again with 14x15 Peace of Mind, Sam under the psychic’s control and Cas disgruntled about it.

[Gif 9] Mick Davies from 12x16 Ladies Drink Free, when he learnt a lesson about monsters. Dean geeking out about the Hatchet Man - so heavy with mirror significances - in 14x04 Mint Condition. Belphegor - Jack’s dark mirror - in 15x03 The Rupture, the break-up episode. Donna’s first episode again, this time Dean and she eating donuts. Dean, Sam and Mary hugging in 12x22 after the confrontation in Mary’s head. Kaia in 13x09 The Bad Place, when Jack uses her to find the way to where Mary is (Mary pattern?). Claire&co rescuing Jody and Donna in 13x10 Wayward Sisters. Dean in 1944 dresses as a sailor in 11x14 The Vessel. Baby nyooming in 15x11 The Gamblers...

Aaand more Changing Channels, the genital herpes ad. It’s almost like reality fuckery is a theme. Followed by Sam drinking the anti-cold concoction at Garth’s in 15x10 and the two of them outside the monster fighting pit in the same episode. Then Cas, Dean, Sam and Jack on a video call with Ketch in 14x09 The Spear when they talk about the egg to trap Michael.

[Gif 10] We stay in the same episode with the four of them heading to Michael. Then the four of them celebrating Jack’s return to life (after Cas’ deal with the Empty). More present, and then the iconic “we’ve got work to do” [trunk closes] moment from the pilot.

So: some of these moments seem like genuine moments you’ll want to put in a montage, but there’s a weird predominance of characters smiling and looking happy or goofy. It’s kind of... not exactly representative of the show as a whole, you know? There are moments that fit as, you know, iconic steps in the story, but surprisingly few, and many moments you’d expect to be in a “final” montage are blatantly not there. Several moments with, let’s put it like this, suspicious meta connotations. Moments that, well, we don’t know what happens in the finale yet, but smell like they might be relevant to future developments. (Metatron’s speech to newly human Cas anyone?)

What really strikes me is the amount of moments connected to reality being manipulated or distorted in some way. Lots of Changing Channels, fantasy elements of various kinds (the Djinn dream, Scoobynatural, Oz, the imaginary friend Becky’s wedding to Sam, the fairy, ...), them acquiring luck (s3) or losing it (s15), and so on. It’s almost like the sequence is telling us something...

I do in fact have some Amara and Chuck headcanons, well really just one and it deals with the empty.

Before the siblings and many universes were created, it was only nothingness. It was empty. It was THE Empty. One day, a day that science refers to as the big bang, light and darkness were created, and in that, Amara and Chuck. They exist inside a portion of the empty they they claimed for their own. Chuck decided to use his sandbox to create universes, and used one to trap his own sister after she disliked his first autonomous creation, Angels. He created worlds weaker than him so that he'd always have the most power. It's also why he doesn't have any power over the empty. Its because his power is an illusion in comparison to the empty. When angels and demons are killed, their beings get pushed outside of God's sandbox because they are made of light and dark that is "multidimentional". This isn't quite the case as it is closer to existing between God's universes than in multiple at once. That gap between them is still the empty, so that's where they get pulled.

On the idea of universes, I'd like to think that all of chuck's creations have multiple phases more so than universes. Examples would be every world has it's own heaven, hell, purgatory, and ether (where Angels keep their wings). All these phases are part of what we perceive as a universe.

Hope this all makes sense and helps you with some metaphysics! In regards to that I am also working on a research paper-based thing that goes over headcanon lore on Angels. Don't know if that is something you could use for the project or not. Let me know if you want to see it when I've finished it.

Bro... Ace, (can I call you Ace?)... my good buddy... my best friend. THIS WAS SO HELPFUL THANK YOU. Like it actually makes a ton of sense and is a really good place for us to start working. The Empty is such a disaster. Like Chuck doesn’t have power in the Empty obviously, but he manages to resurrect Cas multiple times, and even Lucifer in 15x19? And Jack being able to break through because he has the power of both souls and grace makes a lot of sense, but... Chuck shouldn’t be able to???!?!?! And then don’t get me started on the mess that is Purgatory/Hell/Heaven endgame. Even the “fixed” version of Heaven from you-know-what episode, (*shudders), doesn’t make a lot of logical sense if you actually start thinking about it. But you’ve provided us with a really interesting Beginning™ ideas, which can lay the foundation for more exciting stuff to come! And yes! We would honestly really, really like to see it when you’re done! (If you’re comfortable with sharing it of course.)

Ok so this might seem super random but I simply don't know who else to share this theory with, your blog was the first that came to mind. Anyway, my mind keeps going back to Cas' conversation with Ruby earlier this season, how he would try to get all the angels and demons trapped in their regrets out and then how, after Jack went boom, the Empty said "you made it loud" and then how I think (I'm not sure though) Uriel, Balthazar and Lucifer were said to briefly come back for s15 and still haven't? (Maybe they're all awake now??) I think we might still have the chance to get a showdown between the last cosmic entity standing (once Chuck is off the board) and Cas, the one that started the Empty storyline in the first place. At least that would make sense to me storywise and given the foreshadowing but I have no clue if that's what the spn writers would do. What do you think?

Hello!  Thank you for bringing me your speculations, they are DELICIOUS!  I’ve been pretty certain we’d get Destiel all season, but the one thing I could never picture is how they might defeat Chuck lol. 

Now that we’re so close, some pictures are forming in my mind and they’re similar to yours.  I believe that Chuck is going to be defeated by using the Empty.  Chuck and Amara came into existence from nothing, right?  Well, if that’s The Empty, then what if they’re absorbed back into it?  And then all that’s left is to Find The Angel (oh gods, can you imagine if we hear Dean say WHERE’S THE ANGEL again?? I may not survive lol), and get him out of there, probably by fighting through all his bad memories as a mirror to the episode where they found Dean in his own head to save him from AU!Michael. 

And I think since we met Ruby in the empty and learned that it’s not just a long sleep, they’re going to have to defeat it as the last Big Bad, and by doing so, all the angels and demons that are stuck there get to go back to their previous realms, whether heaven or hell.  And we all know how hard it is to keep them there, so Cas walking in and out of the Gates of Heaven any time he wants to would be super awesome.

(Although I’d really like to see him give up his grace and live as a human with the Winchesters, but it’s not in my top five things I need for catharsis.)

I don’t know about Uriel being there... the actor who plays him is in a show called Helstrom (cool show, check it out, it’s on Hulu) which films close by, and the clothes he’s wearing in that selfie Misha took looks like what he’d wear on that other show.  But I would love love love love to see him as one of Castiel’s bad memories that needs to be fought through to rescue him :D

Anyway, this is all wild speculation, based on the episodes I’ve seen so far and what other meta writers have posted about.

Hdbdjsvsu i grinned like an idiot at ur response lolol. Like that made me so happy (*/ω＼) Also I very much agree that having someone fiesty instead of mellow is definitely a fun change. She was actually the first grumpy/fiesty main character i created and im IN LOVE with it lolol

Ah, yes, Rigby and Saeyoung having a bit of Genius Rivalry. Luckily for them, they don't overlap entirely. He seems to gear more towards robotics and whatnot, which she does not. She likes making gadgets and weapons and techy suits and some seriously sci-fi stuff lmao.

Oh, she's also a hacker, a very good one at that, although it's not her primary job so I'd say she's probably just below Saeyoung in skill level.

Here's the first thing I didn't mention, the thing that caused her parents to keep her home most of the time: She has powers. It's not too much of a rarity in her universe, but its still the minority of the population, and it's best to keep the fact that you have powers on the down-low as much as possible. Her powers are reactive adaptation, coupled with enhanced strength. Her primary active adaptation is "steel" appendages such as wings. The steel-like organic material is her go-to.

Ever since she was 14, almost 15, she's been a vigilante hero, with her best (and first) friend Ryder, whom she met that same year. He also has powers, and eventually she revealed her powers to him because he was already doing the superhero stuff. And she was bored. Wanted in on it.

Deviant, she goes by, and it's where her cocky side comes out. Overconfident, cocky, witty, along with her usual demeanor. She loves pissing off her opponent, just like she loves pissing off her cousin, who takes care of her at that age.

Ah, right. Her parents, who are actually v good people and helped train her the best they could even without powers of their own, disappeared when she was 12. First her dad, called into work at HQ in Europe (they live in the U.S.), then her mom a month later, same deal, cos her dad couldnt handle the task on his own.

And then another month, and all communications stopped.

From there, it was practically Rigby's life goal to find them. She refused to believe they were dead. Long story short, they had no choice but to disappear, but were finally able to reunite when she was almost 19 years old. 7 years. She was just glad to have her parents back.

Nevertheless, though she would never admit it, she definitely has separation anxiety, and when she was still under her cousin's care, whenever he would leave on a business trip, it showed, though she tries to suppress it.

With her parents, came 2 new family members to be adopted into the family: Vasyl (m12) and Amara (f16). The reasoning behind this leads into an explanation on Rigby's work (and her parents' work), so I'll save that for later.

Rigby was a little upset at first, and it took her a while to get comfortable with not only the new siblings, but her parents themselves. However, she got close to Vasyl pretty fast, and now, at 22, she would put her life on the line without hesitation if it meant his safety and survival. She's stated that he's her favourite person lol.

Okay, one last thing: the whole fam is multilingual. Russian is her parents' first language, but her mom is like 1/4 american. Rigby considers both english and russian her first language, but would say english if she had to choose. By 22, she knows i think... 20 languages? Her powers affect the mind too -- quick learning and such (i did my research lol). So she knows so many damn languages lol.

You immediately sold it to me the minute that you said superpowers. You said wings and I said I'm simping.

She also seems too smart for her own good and sometimes that can be a tedious thing as well as a bad thing but it doesn't seem like it's that bad for her in that regard anyway. It sounds like she has a little too much fun with what she's doing out there. But, who hasn't been a little cocky and in over their head? Especially when you know you're smart and can whoop some ass like that? You shouldn't expect less from a teenager, I mean we've all read the comics, we know how that works.

I definitely find that character arc intriguing so it would be fun to see her pushed to her limits and how long she can hold up that feisty and brazen mask. Because, I know that we all can appreciate a character that's willing to go absolutely Wild, it can also be interesting to see how far they can be pushed before they absolutely lose it for real. That is to say, you don't really know someone until you know... circumstances put your back to the wall.

It's probably a good thing that she and Seven have different fixations because I imagine if they were working on the same thing that they would probably go mad with power. Because when you stick two people that know too much of the same thing together, well, neither can really figure out when to call it quits so they just keep working until they've invented, I don't know, time travel. When in reality they were supposed to be working on making popcorn or something. Nerds are impossibly incorrigible.
