Me trying to figure out what people were expecting from Nintendo beyond "the Switch with hardware improvements"

Maybe they can get funky with it, but their handheld market has always surpassed their home console market, to the point that their sales figures for every home console was worse than their predecessor save for two exceptions, the Wii, which was a flash in the pan, and the original Switch. The Hybird functionality has been proven, and most people over the years adore the concept with the largest criticism being a pile of minor tweaks, namely the uphill battle modern devs fought against power wise and flaws like joycon drift. Not everything thing needs to be revolutionary.

The only thing I personally would have wanted was the introduction of reverse grip buttons like the Steam Deck, Steam Controller, and XBox Elite controller, but that's hardly anywhere near required. Maybe better Bluetooth functionality as well, but once again, that's minor hardware tweaks rather than the revolutionary new console some were clamoring for.

As for the naming, they got burned badly with the Wii U, and I can't even remember the name of the newest XBox. Numbering is tried and tested and less likely to confuse parents. 2 is a new one. Pretty simple.
