i find it so interesting that the slugcats have titles instead of names. instead of being a concrete person with an individual name, they're a role to fill, someone the player can inhabit to experience being an animal in a certain way. also they conveniently sound like mythological archetypes, which i think is neat
#in love with the idea that arti and gourm are mythological figures in stone age scug culture...#arti is a cautionary tale about letting your rage and grief consume and immolate you obv#and gourm is a baller folk hero and subject of tall tales who might even just be a local figure of myth to the band of scugs we see in OE#i think the idea of other scugs claiming to be descended from them for clout very funny#sage screams incoherently#rain world

“you should get all your patches from local bands and live shows!” Honey, I’m poor and I live in arkansas, how am I supposed to do that?
#should I just get blue grass patches from the state fair or something?#what local bands are even making cool patches?#I don’t even know any local bands#and I haven’t really seen any advertised online that look like something I’d jam to#I’m picky!#not many of the current bands I listen to even make patches#and maybe I don’t want to go to live shows! maybe I’m shy! ever think of that!?#and I don’t want to drive an hour just to see some shitty band#I’m a poser. I just want to look cool. I have minimal interest in seeing some crust punk band play in a small hot room#I did my time already! I did the teenage hardcore scene! I paid my dues! now just let me do my own thing#just let me make my silly little jacket in peace#not that anyone is really bothering me… just kinda complaining about nothing#not a lot of electronic or goth bands playing in arkansas that also make patches… that I know of#who knows. maybe there are and I just haven’t heard about them 🤷🏻♂️#just always seems like I dunno metalcore or folk punk whatever bands. not that there’s anything wrong with that.#I dunno. I don’t know genres anymore.#it’s a lot of metal bands I can’t differentiate or college kids with acoustic guitars. lots of yelling from both.#which… cool. I can dig that. just not really what I listen to in my downtime#….. yup…. that’s… I dunno what else to put here#I love you#this isn’t important#you can ignore this#text

sometimes i want to tongue-in-cheek post like "you all need to listen to shitty music" in reference to like finding random bandcamp albums and listening to artists w two dozen monthly listeners and appreciating them and adding them to your playlists and enjoying them but i cannot make myself call these artists i listen to shit or bad because i genuinly think theyre good despite sometimes low audio quality/cliche lyrics/undistinguished vocals/etc like. i am a serial low monthly listener artist enjoyer have found some of the best music construction and lyrics in these albums yknow. even putting aside calls to support local scenes and indie music or we loose subcultures and venues and artists these are still skilled people make genuinly good art and i feel bad reducing them to indie playlist titled shitty emo indie or whatever 👍like obvi youre not hurting them by saying such things but it feels redactive.
#idk how to word this better and like. yr not a bad person for calling x local folk punk band shitty whiny emo if your still supporting them#lol and i do like those posters and call to actions that say 'support shit art' 'support bad bands' but personally when its done constantly#it feels as though they arent being taken seriously as artists when they are discounted in such a way. lol#uhm anyways stream kvyle. new music this summer.#fully acknoleging this is a non issue like. dont think this is where my energy is going haha

📍PINNED POST📍
My name is Brianna Carmel. I am a 25-year old DIY musician + show promoter from Sacramento, CA who is in a few different projects.
I'd consider my main project to be my sadcore indie pop band, @bloomingheads.
We're in the middle of recording our debut album, but we've been around for a couple years, technically since late 2018. In the two years that we played shows nonstop before our current recording hiatus, we've opened for bands like Walter Etc., Crywank, and Hoity-Toity.
Here is our song Axis Access, which we submitted to NPR's Tiny Desk Contest.
youtube
I also recently joined my bandmate Josiah's main project, @little-tiny-knife. This band is very much their brainchild, a chiptune folk punk act whose music has touched my heart since I met them in 2016.
As you can see in a couple of these photos, LTK is technically a 3-piece; our bassist Jim is currently away doing Real Adult Things™️, but we're hoping for him to join us for our next show on April 2nd--we'll be opening for Local News Legend, with our friend Ash Bricky, at Golden Bear (21+).
Our debut single, Tired of Driving, is available now on spotify + bandcamp, and our next upcoming single, Roll Up Your Sleeves, is, quite frankly, a banger. Here's proof:
youtube
I'm also a solo artist in my spare time, I have been writing by myself since I was 16 and releasing my own music since I was 20.
I consider myself a singer-songwriter with a folk punk soul. My most recent solo release, the Building Blocks EP, has been described by @musicshelfwithmustard as "deeply personal and vulnerable ... as each track builds up and escalates into situations that should make a human feel uncomfortable."
In addition to all of this, I book + promote DIY shows in the Sacramento-area, under the moniker 916 Growth Gigs. I imagine this info is useless to anyone who isn't a DIY band touring through Sacramento, but, under this moniker, I am in the process of curating a compilation album of Paramore covers by queer DIY bands, to be released on bandcamp during pride month this year. All proceeds will benefit the HRC Foundation.
Currently, 16 tracks have been claimed, and it's looking to be a badass tracklist so far!
Here's a list of things I mainly post about // corresponding tags (may be updated as time goes on)...
@bloomingheads // #blooming heads
@little-tiny-knife // #little tiny knife
my solo project // #solo
my face/life stuff/thoughts I shoot into the void // #personal?
QUEERMORE comp album updates // #queermore updates
I also reblog posts about bands + media that I enjoy; Paramore is my special interest, I really enjoy nerdy shit like Doctor Who, Star Trek, various anime series, etc.
If you enjoy my content and would like to support me directly, consider supporting me on patreon for a mere $2/mo.?

the two-out symbol always reminds me of the horns + work stress has made me realize that i only listen to heavier metal when i need to chill out so. little abe-kun in his low-effort getup going out to a show. maybe in his uni years.
#kelsey liveblogs oofuri#abe takaya#the jacket should be bigger but i was on autopilot and just drew my own. smh#anyway maybe he is at some local knockoff S.I.G.H. cover band or some students playing chthonic covers#i like my black/death metal to have folk or symphonic elements but i feel like he'd just go for the straight unadulterated material#i just don't know the bands that play that!#i don't think abe as we know him knows what metal is but i think if he did he'd absolutely come home after a long day and just plug in#if you can feel the drumbeats in your chest it calms the heart#why is there nobody else at the show? well it's a local metal band playing a five dollar show

Me finishing up a long talk about labor politics and how airport 🛩️ workers should strike next -> logging on to girlblog about my favorite jet setting pop star Taylor Swift ✨🦄🎆💖⚡️ because having a fandom tumblr account or not isn’t actually praxis 🌹💪🏻👩🌾
#this post brought to you by a conversation with my touring musician partner#he tours the us with a relatively well known bluegrass band and they rely a lot on airplanes#travel has been making some of his friends miss entire gigs#so we were thinking about how to feasibly tour and make money and see family and not rely on airplanes and airport laborers#also talking about where to try and buy land at some point and the ethics of that vs trying to convince my parents to leave me their house#it’s in a really unique spot wrt local government and I am finding myself becoming involved in local politics about ADUs#and if I want to be able to one day turn this block into a commune I would like the right to build one!#but our conservative HOA has locked in on me as an ally in their fight against Additional Dwelling Units bc I am pushing for the environment#and someone brought up that the neighborhood is an old growth forest at the last meeting apparently!#anyways!! point is- it’s all fun and games to talk politics and Taylor but at the end of the day you can girl blog and not have that#reflect on your actual lived values and actions#plus! there’s definitely something worth while about using gossip as a way to understand what your values are!#me and my partner (a folk musician dedicated to labor movements through his working class ancestors/family) have talked a lot about Taylor#bc it’s fun! and she’s someone in his field! but also we can fine tune our beliefs about touring ethics by studying the worlds biggest tour#it’s fascinating!#c#Sam spam#hiding this deep in tags bc I’m scared:#let’s not eat Taylor when the time comes but maybe she can redistribute her land and properties to feed and house the homeless?#and pay climate reparations to families living within 1 mile of airports she uses#read something horrifying about lead in jet fuel and low income homes near airports….

I went to see the transhumance last week and it was an experience! I've lived here for five years and I'd never been to this event despite it being advertised in the library & town hall every year because I thought, it's just cows crossing a town on their way to their summer pastures, it's not that interesting—but I didn't realise that people turned it into a whole party, as people tend to do. When I arrived in town I found that a nearby field had been (temporarily) turned into a car park to accommodate the many, many visitors who came to see the spectacle—and I was like, maybe I've been missing out on something.
The town was festooned with tassels and garlands (some of the cows were also festooned, with big pompons on their horns) (festoon is a really great English word.) When I arrived there was a thriving little market with several cheese stands, because of course people would take this opportunity to sell their cheeses. They also sold bread, fruit, and cow milk-based desserts including ice-cream, so you were covered if you wanted lunch. (Unless you're lactose intolerant. I'm sorry.)
There were also folk dancers, and a contest going on where you had to guess the weight of an absolutely massive bull (see above). (My guess was way off, he weighed 1 200 kg!) There was a stand with a guy selling beautiful, framed photos of his cows. In one photo a cow was whispering something in her friend's ear. Nearby some prize cows were waiting to be paraded around and one of them was wearing a halter with a little heart <3
(I was invited for apéritif at a neighbour's house a few months ago, he's a retired farmer and he had old Kodak photos of his cows from the 1980s and 90s all over his house. He remembered their names and personalities.)
There was also a stand selling a dizzying variety of cow bells, and I've been resisting the temptation to buy a cow bell for five years now because, well, it's such a cliché tourist thing to buy, but I will probably end up buying one someday. It's hard to resist their allure. I'm not sure which of my animals will have to deal with the humiliation of wearing a bell for a few hours and being photographed cosplaying as a cow against his will.
(Definitely Pirlouit.)
I was buying an ice-cream and asking the vendor if the cows were fashionably late when finally, the herds started arriving. One herd would cross the town, with onlookers clapping and cheering (including from their balconies), then people went back to buying cheese and watching the dancers or the brass band, and commenting on the prize cows strutting on the plaza, then another herd would arrive half an hour later and children would run ahead to warn everyone "They're coming!" (kids love being sentinels) and people would eagerly gather again to clap and cheer as they walked past, and it went on like this all day. You'd think you might get tired of eating ice-cream and clapping for cows but no, people were still enthusiastic when the last herd came.
Imagine being a local cow, and every year when your owners take you to your summer pastures in the mountain you cross a town where people are eating cow milk ice-cream and clapping for you gratefully as you walk past, and buying cow merch (like bells) and admiring an exhibit of framed photos of you and your friends, and watching cow supermodels walking the catwalk on the plaza, and just as you think you've reached maximum levels of appreciation you reach the entrance of town and there's a lifesized statue in your honour in the middle of the roundabout. These cows must have such solid self-esteem.
