The words in the stars say: Shawtys, don’t yell at me for recommending another Omegaverse fic, it’s so good though, and I’m just goin down my list of favs and they were right under each other. Anyways, I love this fic. This story persistently describes the pinning on both sides perfectly. You can clearly see the turning point when Oikawa’s goal changes as the bond further affects his and Iwa’s lives, both positively and negatively. This is one of my favorite IwaOi Omegaverse fics. This story gives the understanding of being connected to the one you love, no matter how it came about, a completely different meaning.

I rate this fic 10 aliens out of 10, please read and if you do talk to me about the convenience store scene, it’s my favorite part :).

The words in the stars say: I really loved this AU. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it at first but as I kept reading I enjoyed it more and more. In this fic Hinata having Tourette's made so much sense. I love how the author used actual habits Hinata has in the anime, explained them in the story, and how they work with Tourette’s. The difference between who Kageyama was in the beginning, compared to how he was at the end made me so happy. He clearly learned how he should be treating Hinata with or without feelings and Hinata’s Tourette’s. Such a sweet read for my Kagehina stans.

The words in the stars say: I’m a sucker for figure skater x hockey player au’s and man, WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS INCOMPLETE. *SLAMMING ON DESK NOISES* I love them so much, lmk if yall find any others. This fic was just *kiss*. I loved it. It represented Akaashi so well and his mental state as a figure skater. I got the whole experience, I finished it and then went ice skating (unplanned, surprisingly). Bokuto is such a sweet heart and every time he forgave Akaashi while he was struggling, warmed my heart (unlike my fingers while I type this sheesh). I adored the IwaOi, DaiSuga, and KuroKen in the background. 

10/10 completely. I love this fic so much even with it being abandoned. </3

I don’t even know how many times I cried (happy ending dw dw) while reading this. I love the childhood friends AU for SakuAtsu plus Osamu and Suna’s drama that pulls you into a heartbreaking story. Lettersinpetals blows me away every damn time I read a fic of theirs. PLEASE PLEASE, read this fic.

Your matchup is: Komori Motoya

How you met: At an MSBY fan meet. You’re a pretty big volleyball fan and enjoy playing the sport regularly. Somehow, you were lucky enough to score a ticket to the fanmeet for one of your favorite teams in the league (You’re torn between EJP Raijin and MSBY Black Jackals). The line for the event is pretty long, and while you’re waiting you strike up conversation with your line neighbor, talking about different players in the league He seems oddly familiar and you can’t really put your finger on where you recognize him from, since he’s wearing a facemask. It isn’t until you’re at the table shaking hands with Hinata Shoyo and you hear your neighbor go “Kiyoomi!” only for Sakusa to respond with “Keep it down Motoya.” Wait. Motoya..? AS IN KOMORI MOTOYA? Anyways, Komori sees your eyes widen as you stare at him in shock and sheepishly comments “Ah, you caught me.” At the end of the event you don’t expect Komori to ask you for your number, but the two of you exchange contact info. What can he say, Komori enjoyed your laid back personality + passion for volleyball. 

Your first date: The two of you text back and forth for a couple days. His teammates and his cousins warn him to be cautious, but you’re always polite over text, and never pry into anything he feels uncomfortable sharing. He’s finding that he’s enjoying your company over text and calls, and feels that going on at least one date with you won’t do anyone any harm (if anything he’d be ecstatic if you agreed to go on said date). He asks if you want to have lunch at Onigiri Miya and you agree. You’re not really sure what to expect, but Komori surprises you by keeping the lunch super chill. He kind of forgot to tell you it was a date, so you don’t really realize until he’s like, “where do you want to go for our second date?” really casually and you both have a freakout moment where you realize none of you ever established this was a date? (You’ll laugh about this later.) Anyways, you settle your plans with him, with promises for an at home movie marathon next week.

Your first kiss: Very casual and spontaneous. Komori invites you over to his place, of course telling you to go through the back door of the dorms since he doesn’t want you to get caught up with any lurking fans or have your picture taken by the media (he doesn’t want to scare you off 🥺). But he gets really excited just waiting for you to come over so the minute he hears the doorbell ring he’s flinging his front door open and it kinda just happens? He’s on autopilot because he’s so happy to see you again so he doesn’t really think before he’s leaning towards your lips for a kiss. No tongue, but definitely longer than a peck, and it’s really sweet because he has an arm around your waist while his other hand cups your cheek. 

Anniversary: If you’re okay with it, he’d like to go public with your relationship. While people have been aware for a while that he’s dating, he’s been careful not to reveal your identity before you’re ready, especially since volleyball fans can get really intense. The most he’ll do is include your silhouette or hands in some of his photos on social media, but for the most part you two enjoy your lives outside of the limelight. Of course, sometimes having to plan routes and bend over backwards to avoid the press + fans can get exhausting, so he asks if he can post a photo on your anniversary. It’s a very simple caption ‘thank you for 2 years’ and a selfie of you two grinning at the camera while holding up your favorite boba orders from a date a few months ago. Anyways after that all your phones/devices are on mute and the two of you enjoy a fun video game night with face masks and TLC. Of course the night is not complete without boba, snacks and some takeout. He takes way more selfies that are for his and your eyes only, because he loves having photos to remind him of all the happiness you’ve brought into his life. 

How they propose: After a game, in the private waiting room/outside the locker rooms. Everyone who is important to you and him are there - his teammates, Kiyoomi (He invited Sakusa to the game and his cousin obliged bc he knew that this was an important moment), your friends and family (he’d sneakily given them all tickets + post-game special access passes to the game). You thought you were just doing the usual and heading towards the locker rooms to congratulate your boyfriend on his win before heading out for dinner. But instead when you reach the hallway, all your loved ones are standing there, and they are all holding up little posters that have photos from all your dates/anniversaries/years together with Komori on them. Once you’re close enough, they part like the Red Sea, revealing Komori, kneeling in front of you with a ring and looking at you with so much adoration in his eyes. He doesn’t even have to say anything, you’re already sobbing yes and tackling him into a hug. 

What your wedding looks like: I feel like you two are both really nonchalant about the guest list/how many people come - like whoever can make it can make it. Of course, between the two of you being super friendly and keeping in contact with literally everyone, you send out a bunch of invitations (you swear Komori invites half of the V-league and then some) but it ends up being a really fun wedding! I feel like you guys would definitely be a summer wedding with a sunflower aesthetic - either there’s a field of sunflowers nearby or sunflowers are the centerpiece of your decorations. It’s a cheerful flower that represents your happy and shiny relationship :) Both of you would insist on having people play party games at the reception because you want to have fun at your wedding. 

Newlywed/domestic hc: You and Komori become THAT brunch/party couple - you guys love hosting parties/gatherings for the EJP Raijin team, and also small get-togethers with high school classmates/teammates, family etc. You have a big house (courtesy of that V-league pay + your own job) and have multiple guest rooms + pull out couches for people to stay on. After your house clears out - the two of you will be cleanin out a guest room when he just says “Imagine when we can turn this into a playroom” or “imagine when this will be a little one’s bedroom” and you two just spend the afternoon imagining your future family together.

Give or take 18mos ago, my bestie @copias-cape sent me a Ghost video. She thought I'd be into them. (She wasn't wrong.) Not too long after that, I saw that they'd be playing in my city and I hemmed and hawed about buying a ticket. I mean: I'd just heard of them! Surely others—real fans—would be more deserving of the ticket (plus I was soon to be unemployed and surely my $$ was best spent on my mortgage). Eventually, I was convinced TO GO—way close to the actual date, and so I got a really shitty seat.

To be fair, I attended my first Ritual in an actual theater—not a show venue—so there was no floor space, no dancing; and I was way in the back. I had been told that Ritual was Life Altering, and—while I had fun—I was pretty meh about it.

I'm going to wildly digress here and tell you all about a time I went to see Billy Joel. See, I grew up listening to Billy Joel, and—as a piano player—his songs played an important part of my formative years. I've seen him 3x. One of those was right out of college and a birthday gift from a former bff. It started off as a disaster��she thought she got ok tickets, but she misread the seating chart and actually got us nosebleed seats 1 row from the ceiling and behind the stage. It wasn't ideal, but I was just happy for the thought and, I mean, it's a music show. If we can hear it, that's good enough.

We struck up a conversation with the middle-aged couple behind us and their disaffected daughter + guest. The teens were not enthused in the slightest and kept going and coming back to their seats. Suddenly! They come back! Why? What's up? Well, apparently, Joel's roadie's go to the nosebleed seats and give FRONT ROW tickets to unfortunate people (read: cute girls) in the nosebleed seats. And the roadies were keen on getting these 2 nubile, young girls up front. Being 16 however, required parental permission. Permission they did. Not. Get. My bestie and I sat there feeling pity for these 2 girls who were being denied something amazing as the parents said, "This is something you do in your 20s, not when you're 16."

At which point a light went off, they turned to us, and said, "Hey: you girls wouldn't like these front row tickets would you?" We did. We really did. We kept solemnly quiet as these 2 teens beat their chests and rent their garments begging her parents not to be so cruel. But the couple would not budge. Reluctantly, the teens took us down to the roadie and introduced us as their replacements. The roadie gave my friend and me a blatant, scrutinizing once over, before shrugging his shoulders, nodding, and telling us to follow him. We did not look back on what would become a defining moment in 2 teens lives on how Not Fair life was.

We, however, were taken not only to the floor, not to the first row, but to a set of folding chairs between the stage and first row. We were instructed to be enthusiastic—to dance—bc this was being taped. And you know what? It was a blast! It was a rock show! We could see the pores on his face. An overall 15/10 experience.

So seeing Ghost from the theater back? Meh.

Upon hearing of my ambivalence to my 1st Ritual, @copias-cape insisted that next tour, we would go together. She would show me how to Ritual correctly. Little did we know how soon—not even a year!—that would be. When Ghost announced their next tour dates, we scrutinized the poster, trying to figure out where all the landmarks would be.

When dates were announced we agonized over who would go were and when. Locations and venues were bandied about. A location had been settled on, only to change due to class and work conflicts. Bus tickets were exchanged. Days were taken off. This wasn't going to be a Ritual, this was going to be a Weekend.

It had been 7mos since I last saw her shining face, but finally the Ritual Weekend was here, we were together, and we became a chaotic force to be reckoned with. We became those 2 girls you hate at a party. The whole trip just gelled together and the next thing we know, there we are in line waiting to meet the Rat Daddy himself. Special guest star appearance by @moonlightbewitched who somehow randomly was right behind us in line. (Apologies if I seemed distant, but I was nervous AF.) We met some other awesome ppl—while we waited in line for 3.5hrs—who I regret not exchanging info with, but: Rat Daddy.

I already have my meet & greet post, but I will add here how woefully unprepared I was. I was nervous, sure—but in the way one is nervous about meeting their fav. I had this mistaken impression that it'd basically be a point & click situation. They've been touring for nearly 2yrs. He's done hundreds of photo ops. Sure: he's a rockstar, but he's also just a man. Probably an exhausted, tired man. I wasn't expecting to be seduced and manhandled by buttery gloves. Whoever that girl was in the bathroom trying to eavesdrop on our post-op conversation I'm either sorry we were such hot messes or you're welcome you got a scoop on the sheer presence of the Rat Daddy.

ANYWAY, the point is: Ritual #2. Riding high off the feel of Copia's leathered fingers on our skin and the inordinate kindness of strangers letting us maneuver our way up front, we had a transcendent Ritual. We were so close! HIS THIGHS WERE RIGHT THERE! The music reverberated through our very cores and had us at times clutching at each other in stunned rapture.

This. THIS is how Ritual should always and ever be.

One weekend. Two women. A helluva performance by Rat Daddy + the Ghouls.

In the upcoming days I will be posting my various forms of footage, but I felt remiss in not including the sheer magnetism of my friend and cohort, who has been nothing but patient and supportive of my gradual easement into the Rabbit Hole of this fandom. And I thank her for encouraging me to experience Ritual the right way.

You are correct.

It's life-changing. It's transcendent.

1. If you could pick any three bands (doesn’t matter if they’re still together) to play at a festival, what would be your dream line-up?Metallica, Pantera and Iron Maiden.

2. If you could pick any guitarist to teach you to play guitar, who would you pick? James Hetfield or Dimebag Darrell.

3. Do you have/want any tattoos? I don’t currently have any. I would like to get a Metallica related one at some point.

4. Do you play/want to play any instrument? I play a little guitar (badly).

5. If you could visit any place, where would you go first? Ooh difficult question! I’d like to go to Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

6. What would you do if you randomly met your favorite band member on the street? Scream internally and have a battle in my head about whether i go up and disturb them or not (i’m way too polite lol).

7. Is there an album or song that changed your life? If so which is it?Well i suppose TBA changed my life in a way, it introduced me to Metallica and the joy i get from being a fan of this damn band in a way no other band ever has as well as introducing me to metal. 

8. Fav era James? Oh no, this is so hard as there is something i love about each era James! Ok, it is probably MOP era James, but i would also add Justice era James, Load era James and current James. 

9. Fav drink? Non alcoholic - Hot Chocolate. Alcoholic - Jack Daniels Honey or Baileys. 

10. What was the best concert you went to? Metallica at the 02, London, October 2017. That wasn’t even just because i met them, it was honestly one of the best nights i’ve had. Even when i listen to the gig now i get a huge smile on my face. 

11. If you had a time machine what time would you go to and what would you do? Not gonna lie, i would go back to the 80s and see Metallica live with Cliff on the Damage Inc. tour.

4. If so, why?/If not, why not? Why do i play guitar? I always wanted to, but my parents never had the spare cash to buy me one or send me for lessons. I finally decided to teach myself back in 2014, but it is a struggle with my short stubby fingers i admit and i should practice more but i waste my time on the internet instead. I keep looking at my guitar and thinking i should get back into it as it’s a nice stress reliever to just jam along to songs. I just wish i had learnt earlier. 

5. Who is your idol in life? I wouldn’t say i have an idol as such. James is a pretty big inspiration though. 

6. Who is your favorite bass player? The amazing Cliff Burton. 

7. If you could go and see any concert from the past, who would you wanna see? Again as above, i would go back to 1986 and see Metallica with Cliff on the Damage Inc. tour. 

8. What got you into the music you love? My husband is totally to blame! It was him who turned me on to Metallica and then Metal in general. I’ve always had a love for rock and 80s music though thanks to my Mum and Step Dad. 

9. What is your favorite guitar solo? Oh my, there are so many to choose from! Ok as it’s something i’m considering having as a tattoo, i’m going to say James’s beauitful solo from To Live is To Die. I tear up every time. 

10. Classic rock or current rock? Classic rock.

11. If you could be in a band, would you be? Yes. Although i get terrible anxiety about talking to a crowd of people letting alone playing in front of a huge crowd!

Stuart, the guitar player of one of my fav bands, answered about 10 things that was a life changing for him. I think its a nice meme to follow, specially working as a mtfckr from home and  stopping just to sleep as I am since December. Ahhhh...

So lets go (I think it will be much more than 10).

1. Discovering skate rock and surf music when I was 13. Offspring, NOFX, Bad Religion... It was a sort of freedom in the shithole where I was born. Me and my best friend at the time, Vandre, use to smoke weed and listen to skate punk inside the trees. It was very funny and we use to feel the whole freedom in this pathetic situation. 7. Mogwai and John Frusciante. Mogwai is a great, accessible band that manages to mix classical and popular elements without pretension, always in tune with the zeitgeist and that took me to visit the Highlands. In addition, we have a love story that lasts more than 20 years. Through Mogwai I got in touch with a completely new world and even moved to Europe. Mogwai is one of my biggest life changings. I wrote a thesis about music inspired by my experiences with Mogwai.

John Frusciante is a very special guy (piscies!)  whom I have a very big identity. His way to look at art and his commitment with it touches my so so deeply. He is a very sensitive and romantic guy and never cheesy.  I never feel alone when I’m reading about him, his thoughts or listening his work. Besides, I love his sense of humor. He is a sort of soul mate. There was a time I use to dream I was chatting with him everyday. One day I asked in my dream: “Hey, but we dont even know each other and will never on awaken world”. Then he answered: “No matter, this world (dream world) is the one that really matters”. I think it is a funny dream, specially knowing a bit about his thoughts. But if I had to highlight an episode relating Frusciante it would be the launch of Empyrean in 2009. This album really changed my life.

8. Live Concerts and raves. In the post-industrial societies that we live in, shamanic trance rituals took another form, neither better nor worse, but corresponding to their context. The energy of being among unknown people attuned to them through sound is one of the most beautiful things I know, something very tribal, that puts us back in touch with some sense of existence.

9. Literature and Writting. Another fucking way to free the mind. I write and read all the time.

10. Skating and surfing. Even though I was born on the biggest (and ugliest) beach in the world, I was always afraid to surf, because I’ve lost a professional surfer friend to the sea when I was a teenager and that left me traumatized. Moving to a wild beach in Portugal was also a life-changing episode, being in touch with the strenght of the sea is one of the most strong aesthetic experiences I already had. I feel so small and so helpless in the face of the magnitude of the sea. In 2020, I lost my fear of surfing and finally entered the water with my surfboard at sunset  and it was one of the most remarkable and horny experiences of my life. I'm still an apprentice, but surfing has turned into an endless lust. Skating is the same thing. I have a lonboard for dancing and I wanna change it for a cruiser and get faster. All this things about movement and speed always turned me on.

I think it's always all about freeing your mind. Each step is a life changing. This post was written while listening Bad Religion - Infected to remember old times.

- i think otome and koharu win by default, tho io’s brief scene w/her mother and the background we get on her relationship w/her parents is v heart-wrenching.  i love the way otome’s single mom status is depicted–it feels very nuanced and sympathetic, without shying away from the way having parenthood thrust upon her would realistically impact otome’s life and koharu’s.  when otome mentions in tri arc that she misses being koharu’s mother, despite how selfish that would be (as it would come in exchange for her cousins’ lives), i teared up, ngl.  koharu herself is also really precious, tho i wish we had a consistent appearance for her–it seems to change between vanilla desu 2, ds2a, and tri arc?  

runner-up goes to airi and her dad, despite the fact that she thinks he’s dead.  the dera-deka sub-arc is well-worth doing at least once, imo.  it made me bawl, and it’s also necessary for 100% compendium completion.

My favorite sibling relationship

- can i say saiduq and the other septentriones?  yamato and miyako are the only sibs we see onscreen (tho airi mentions having a little brother), but tbh, i’m more interested in miyako’s side than i am in yamato’s.  what goes on in the septentriones’ minds–if they even have “minds” as people would perceive the concept–is fascinating to me, and i really wonder what saiduq thinks abt his former “siblings”.  does he simultaneously pity and envy them for lacking his autonomy?  does he see them as extensions of polaris’ will that deserve to be beaten down by humans?  the denizens of the akasha stratum are one of my fav aspects of desu 2′s worldbuilding, so i’m always hungry for meta on them.

My favorite family relationship (other)

- airi and ronaldo in a found family situation………  i love the way their dynamic develops, w/neither one aware of how strong a connection they really share.  i do wish we’d had more of them bonding over their memories of airi’s dad (which i’ve always hc’d as happening at least on egalitarian route), but seeing how similar the two of them really are is always cute.  airi loves her gay uncle 2k17

My favorite friendship between two people

- uffff this is so hard b/c i like a lot of my ships b/c of their friendships……..  ig i’d make it a tie between hibiki + daichi and jp’s trio’s dynamic as a whole?  even tho jp’s trio isn’t two people, haha.  one thing i really like abt hibiki in comparison to like, every male protag ever, is that it’s p heavily implied that he’s not popular at all.  the one thing ds2a did right was hibiki’s backstory, which i think still fits in w/gameverse!hibiki’s description as someone w/a “blank” past.  his friendship w/daichi and the relationships he forms w/the main cast mean a lot more in the context of daichi really being his only close friend at the start of the game, imo.  s/t i love abt hibiki + both daichi and io is that their friendships are based on equity, abt hibiki supporting the others and working w/them as equals to help them realize what wonderful ppl they are in their own right, rather than him being the ultra-charismatic authority who’s always Cool and in control.  like, this is the guy who has such Serious dialogue options as “RAINBOOOOOOW!!” and “tell everyone yr gay for yamato”.  hibiki being really isolated from most ppl aside from daichi feeding into his decision to pursue the human admin end of br is a meta for another time, ig.

jp’s trio’s various relationships are all v interesting, in terms of the spokes of the triangle and all three of them together.  it’s really refreshing to see that kind of dynamic between adult women who are professionals–their bond feels a lot less??  transient than it might between yet another group of high schoolers.  you get the sense that all three of them being adults is what lets their friendships bloom and be so important to them, as the people they were in high school are hardly the same people they are now.  the event in tri arc where fumi and makoto take care of a fatigued otome and tell her that she can lean on them, too, really made an impact on me.  all three of them play off of each other so well in a variety of settings, and it lends a v mature, multifaceted air to their dynamic.  otome taking a different faction than fumi and makoto, and how different fumi and makoto’s own reasons for joining yamato are, is also worth mentioning in that the three of them aren’t always in agreement, and that’s a part of friendship, too.  

My favorite friendship between a group

- team nagoya………  i’ll be the first to say that i dislike both the extremist routes.  whether or not the writers intended to make the player feel that way is subjective, and may well depend on where a player falls on the smt alignment continuum, or even on desu 2′s version of that continuum.  either way, i at least liked egalitarian better than meritorious b/c team nagoya has such a strong rapport w/one another, compared to the cognitive dissonance-riddled mess that is team osaka.  based on their dialogue from any daichi route, the members of team nagoya definitely know they’re not necessarily vying for the best solution to their very legitimate concerns.  they’re a lot easier to sympathize with b/c their grievances are very real–as joe says in “dream’s end”, while society may be growing less prejudiced over time, for many people, there is no time to “wait for things to get better”.  the problem lies much more in going thru polaris to make a change, as the ending p clearly (and horrifyingly) demonstrates that polaris just uses team nagoya’s passion for its own ends.  

at any rate, the interactions between the four of them are great, from ronaldo and airi’s aforementioned dynamic, to joe and otome’s complimentary playful attitudes, to how airi represents the future that all three adults are fighting for.  it’s really telling that team nagoya consists of three adults and one teenager–otome puts it most clearly in her post-defeat dialogue on daichi routes when she says that she was fighting desperately (yet short-sightedly) for the future of the world’s children.  imo, airi really represents that future to the three adults, as a teenager who has already had so many doors closed in her face due to inequity.  airi’s own stubbornness, selective self-flagellation, and issues w/moving on aside, schooling in particular really is s/t that can shape a child’s entire life, and i’m sure ronaldo, joe, and otome realize that.  so seeing how well all four of them interact w/each other and how airi represents both the best and the worst of team nagoya’s ideals def makes them my fav faction.

My favorite mentorship

- speaking of airi’s interactions w/the adult cast, makoto + airi is so good…..  i love how constructive makoto is w/airi, giving her the tools she needs to move forward in life w/o telling her to get over it, or denying that airi’s been screwed over by forces well beyond her control.  makoto’s not a perfect mentor, but (as her name suggests), she’s honest w/airi, and owns up to it when she reacts too harshly.  i think it’s great to see makoto helping someone in a way she knows for sure is right, in contrast to how uncertain her cognitive dissonance abt other issues in sep arc must be making her feel.  on the flipside, airi gets to begin moving forward w/life again, which in turn contributes to helping her reconsider her own alienating abrasiveness (can you tell i like airi b/c she and severa are so similar……).  the moral of airi and makoto’s mentorship isn’t “never ever give up on yr dreams b/c you can only ever have one True goal in life”, nor is it “there’s no need to challenge injustices done unto you b/c if you don’t rock the boat, life will move on eventually”.  airi’s sub-arc comes to a more nuanced conclusion, and i don’t think she could’ve gotten there w/o makoto’s influence.

My favorite rivalry

- does hinako and yamato count?  i love how often she calls him out, and how she’s not afraid of him in the least.  while i doubt yamato sees hinako as much of consequence, she makes her beef w/him plain, w/o going “DIE HOUTSUIN MY JUSTICE IS SCREAMING” ala ronaldo www  her voice is much-needed in a lot of situations, too.  her confrontation w/yamato over whether or not he cherrypicked the results of the medium compatibility tests to get rid of io is really well-done, esp if you infer that hinako knows abt io’s own disastrous confrontation w/yamato earlier on friday.

My favorite hatred/antipathy

- while i know miyako and yamato don’t straight-up hate each other, their dynamic as enemies (or at least in opposition to one another) is great.  i’m not just saying this b/c i love seeing yamato get dragged, i promise–there really is just s/t satisfying abt miyako not taking his shit at all, despite her own cognitive dissonance and his valid points abt the futility of her plan.  yamato -> saiduq is also fairly interesting, tho ds2a bloated itself so much w/a tepid exploration of how their dynamic could potentially be explored that i’m not too keen on meta-ing it more.  yamato is kind of a hate sink amongst the cast, tbh www  saiduq’s own rebel angel-turned-usurper dynamic w/polaris is p unambiguous hatred, but it’s v interesting, given how saiduq feels he has no choice but to die as polaris’ sword on every other route.  really seeing him shuck that alcor designation (ppl who call saiduq by that name when he explicitly says he dislikes it still drive me bonkers in 2017) and take up heaven’s throne is v satisfying.

My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon

- do u have a moment to talk abt how we were robbed of more io-joe interactions………  if anyone’s actually read this far, you probably do lmao  in any event, i think this is mostly a limitation of how the fate system is constructed, and you can see the writers stretching and experimenting w/it in tri arc.  if future desu games expand into s/t like fe’s support system, where you can see the fate system-equivalents between all characters, sometimes w/o the protag even present, i think that’d be a great step forward.  i bring this up for one area in particular where i really wanted to see more joe-io interactions: on tuesday, after io’s parents die.  joe has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it line in his own fate system w/hibiki abt how his own parents are dead, but it’s not framed in a more genre-typical “tragic orphan backstory” way.  it really raises the question about when someone whose parents have died is too old to be called an orphan, given that joe is only 25.  

this dialogue suggests that the losses are then fairly recent, tho joe writes them off w/his patent-pending brand of escape-avoidance.  for all his flakiness (his term), tho, joe really does try to fill a big brother role for tokyo trio, and this is where i think he and io could have some v fruitful interactions.  i think that most of the cast isn’t really faced w/the immediacy of the high likelihood that their families are dead, w/the exception of chars like joe, jungo, airi, and keita, who all lose parents prior to the game.  io, on the other hand, watches her mother die in her arms.  she displays astounding resilience and focus in how quickly she draws herself back together after the loss, despite her r5 confirming that she had pretty constant suicidal ideation throughout the rest of the week (and quite possibly before the game, too).  as joe is the closest to io out of the four aforementioned characters at that point in the game, i really, really would’ve loved to see his take on providing her comfort and guidance in the wake of her sudden loss.  i think it would’ve been a good set of conversations for both of them, especially if you buy into the reading that both joe and io let themselves die should the player fail to prevent their death clips.  in this respect, i’m interested in the similarities between joe and io, and i think a good heart-to-heart between them early on in the game would’ve led to a variety of other interactions.
