What I want for all of the characters on the show right now (A mostly comprehensive list)
Aaron - Post spiral, give him Seb. Let him be a single dad. Give him a new friend (a new character, Billy, Vic/Matty/Amy) Have him either get a new partner at the scrapyard or get rid of it altogether and buy into the garage so he can interact with people again from time to time. Also...overalls.Ā
Liv - Get her away from Aaron. Let her mix with the teens again. Especially the Gabby/Leanna/Jacob crowd. Explore her epilepsy in that setting. Explore her asexuality more. Iā€™d love to see her realize she might have a thing for a girl.Ā
Chas - Cheat on Paddy. Get out of that character suffocating relationship. Get her spark back.Ā
Paddy - Break up with Chas. Take a holiday? Stick to scenes with Marlon?
Bear - LEAVE - He serves no purpose. Even less so now that Faith has gone too. Heā€™s just dead weight and his and Paddyā€™s relationship is not interesting in any way.Ā
Eric - Iā€™d like to see the B&B more. I miss when we used to see him there with Val all the time.Ā
David - Iā€™d like to see him stay single for a while. Take more of an interest in Jacob and keep being a dad to Theo. Could have new parent stories with Vic or Chaddy (**shudder I know).
Leyla - Iā€™d like to see her get to do more at Take a Vow, get to plan Sam and Lydiaā€™s big village wedding and more. I would definitely be up for her and Liam if they want to go there.Ā
Jacob - Iā€™d like to see him actually continue to mention that heā€™s getting counseling and see some of the effects of that. If they donā€™t go with Liam and Leyla, I think he and Leanna properly together could be nice.Ā
Liam - Keep being the amazingly fabulous person that he is. Iā€™m sad we lost Bernice, but I do think he and Leyla really could work if they wanted to go there.Ā
Leanna - Iā€™d like to see her keep up her friendship with Gabby even though their parents arenā€™t together anymore. Iā€™d be open to seeing her and Jacob actually date if their parents arenā€™t going to.
Gabby - Iā€™d love to see Gabby get a bigger story. Let her start being a bit more adult. Iā€™d like to see her get a job in the village. She could go back to working at the B&B but we actually see it. Iā€™d love to see her get a real love interest or a big issue story. Rosie has proven she can handle bigger material with the Ashley stuff, so Iā€™d like to see her get to do that again.Ā
Diane - Iā€™d love to see more of the B&B again in general. I miss it. Iā€™d keep her to the comedy stuff. Let her interact with Eric more and Liam too. Maybe a few heart to hearts with Aaron since sheā€™s the only one who will listen to him apparently.Ā
Wendy - LEAVE - I really donā€™t know what purpose she serves once she eventually realizes Lee was a rapist and Vic wasnā€™t lying. I just want Vic to be free of these people and I donā€™t see what Wendy brings to the village and Vic shouldnā€™t have to forgive her for all of the harassment and the stalking and she shouldnā€™t have to accept her into Harryā€™s life. Just let Wendy go Emma Barton and babynap Harry and be done with it.Ā
Luke - LEAVE - I donā€™t really have a problem with Luke but Iā€™d rather Vic just get a fresh start away from all of Leeā€™s family. If he did stay though, I guess he could be a candidate for being Aaronā€™s friend as long as they built that up in a more natural way rather than him just happening to be there when heā€™s getting chucked out of clubs.Ā
Victoria - Needs a fresh start for her and Harry. I think Vic is a character that needs to be rested for a while. She had a big year last year and I think she could just enjoy being a mum and juggling that with work and supporting her friends. I think in the second half of the year, perhaps they could explore her trying to date again. I just wouldnā€™t have it be Luke.
Matty - I know he just moved back to the farm, but I need him to move right back out again. Matty needs to have his own story, not just be stuck on Moira duty. I really really want to see them explore a relationship story for Matty again.Ā
Amy - Since theyā€™re obviously never going to give her any consequences for Frankā€™s death, Iā€™d sort of just like to see her keep being a supportive friend for the time being. I think sheā€™s good in that role. Or, and weā€™d have to see how it worked out chemistry wise, they could have Amy try and help Matty find a girlfriend and end up falling for him instead.Ā
Kerry - Keep using her in small doses only. Her and Mandy make a fun comedy duo in the salon but they need to be kept at a minimum to appreciate them.Ā
Cain - Iā€™d like to see him have a thing with Cara again perhaps. If heā€™s ever going to get back with Moira, they need to take their time with it and really properly build it back up and make it stick this time.Ā
Moira - Let her lose the farm for the love of god so a new family can move in. She needs a massive shake up as a character because sheā€™s just going in circles. She needs off the farm and back in the mix of the village. I have considered the idea of her buying Charity out of the pub with the farm sale money. She could fight with Chas as they work out how to run the pub together. Give them both their spark back and that could pave the way for her and Cain to work things out if they want to go that way. Sheā€™d just have to learn to not drink the place dry first.Ā
Nate - LEAVE - I want Cara to stay but Nate still seems pretty useless to me. I just donā€™t think Cain ever needed another kid in the picture. I donā€™t see what it does for him as a character. I donā€™t see why he should have to forgive Nate for what he did. So...whatā€™s the point. Plus Pete is leaving so he wonā€™t have him to help on the farm anyway. Mostly, I want him to facilitate Cara staying and then get run over by his own tractor or something.Ā
Cara - Iā€™ve liked her so far in the three episodes weā€™ve gotten of her. Iā€™d be up for her staying for a bit and sorting Nate out or pushing him in front of that tractor and maybe having a thing with Cain or anyone else she wants to.Ā
Charity - Iā€™d love to see her get out of the pub and get back to using her business skills. Iā€™d love to see some real conflict between her and Vanessa that lasts more than a week and a half. But if theyā€™re going to ever get married, just let them get married and then let them have conflict or something. Iā€™d love to see her continue to pay attention to Noah.Ā
Vanessa - Again, conflict for her and Charity. Could be interesting to finally get her mum to come to the village. She could come for the wedding, cause some friction between her and Charity. Iā€™d like them to continue her friendships with Rhona and Moira. Sheā€™s good in friend mode.Ā
Noah - I think theyā€™ve been doing well with Noah lately. I would like to see him and Charity work on their relationship more. Iā€™d like to maybe see him mixing it up with the older teens again too. Maybe a crush on a girl.Ā
Sarah - Same as Noah, Iā€™ve liked what theyā€™ve been doing with her lately. And Iā€™d just keep her hanging out with the rest of the teens.Ā
Ryan - LEAVE?? - I hate to say that because obviously having a disable character on the show is a good thing but he just never should have been Charityā€™s son. She didnā€™t need another kid and they havenā€™t done nearly enough with that relationship to make it worthwhile. They barely let him interact with his siblings. All he does is show up for occasional tech help. And heā€™s only up at Home Farm to facilitate Graham murder stuff so just like...do something with him or let him go.Ā
Kim - Keep her interacting with the rest of the village. Itā€™s the best version of her. Iā€™d love to see her properly fall for someone and have real feelings rather than it all feeling like a manipulation.Ā
Jamie - Keep him and Andrea separated. Let him keep this backbone heā€™s developed. Iā€™d like to see him repair his relationship with Rhona post Graham because I did like it at the start. I think he and Belle could be good together.Ā
Andrea - LEAVE??? - Sheā€™s another one who they either need to do something with or let her go. She might be the one to kill Graham and leave that way, who knows. If sheā€™s going to stay, she needs to move into the village and get out of Home Farm and away from Jamie and make her own life. Get a proper friend, find someone new etc.Ā
Rhona - Rhona probably needs a post Graham break. Then Iā€™d just like to see her repair all of her relationships with everyone sheā€™s hurt. As far a romance for her goes, I did consider her and Marlon getting back together. Although as things currently stand...thatā€™s gonna take awhile.Ā
Al - If theyā€™re going to put him with Kim, I want real feelings. Mostly, I want them to let him be a real villain. The show needs a villain and the Al that first showed up in the village had that potential.Ā
Ellis - LEAVE - Damnit Asan! I loved Ellis but New!Ellis just doesnā€™t work. I donā€™t know if he could if they actually gave him screen time and his own story but as it is now, I just want to ship him back to Dubai.Ā
Billy - I really like Billy right now. I love that theyā€™re keeping his relationship with Marlon going. I like him and Dawn. They could probably use some real conflict at some point too but so far, I like them as they are. If Al was going to go full villain, that could also provide some good material for him. He is a candidate for a friend for Aaron too. I know how he was introduced and that they never really resolved that between them but thereā€™s always the chance for them to have a proper conversation about it and move on. I think they could be good for each other in the long run. Aaron is lost without Robert and Billy no longer has a proper Ellis, so it could work potentially.Ā
Dawn - As I said, I like her and Billy together. I think they need to make a decision with Lucas once and for all. If sheā€™s going to get him back, I think it could provide good material for her and Billy, dealing with having a little kid to parent.Ā
Harriet - Zzzzzzzzzzzz - Is it time for a new vicar yet? Mostly, I think she needs to stick to the village events and the background snark because whenever she gets a real story, itā€™s just so dull.Ā
Will - much the same as Harriet. He could stay or go, I wouldnā€™t care. Heā€™s fine as village color I guess.Ā
Marlon - Heā€™s great as he is, serving up snark and food from the Woolpack kitchen. I love him playing support to everyone, he always elevates whatever scene heā€™s in. Iā€™d love to see him get a love interest that is going to stick around for a while. Both he and April need that stability. If they can get past the Graham of it all, he and Rhona have always worked well together. So...maybe?
Zak - I assume Zak is off because of the actor needing the break. I hope Steve Halliwell is doing okay. Before Lisa got killed off, I always thought it would have been an interesting story for Zak to get killed off but for now he can just be if he ends up coming back.Ā
Belle - Iā€™d like to see her get more to do at the vets and Iā€™d be up for her and Jamie.Ā
Sam and Lydia - LET THEM GET MARRIED!!!! A big, crazy Sam and Lydia wedding is all I want. Also would like to see Lydia continue to deal with the Huntingtons stuff and her family.
Mandy - Like Kerry, sheā€™s best in small doses. I like her up with the rest of the Dingles though. She is fun. I wouldnā€™t mind it if she stuck around a bit longer.Ā
Vinny - I still donā€™t have a clue whatā€™s going on with Vinny and who his parents are and if that will ever be relevant. If itā€™s going to be, I wish theyā€™d just get it over with already. Other than that, if heā€™s staying, Iā€™d like to see him actually leave Wishing Well and make friends with some of the other teens in the village.Ā
Bob - Stick to bar work and stay the hell away from Wendy.Ā
Brenda - Keep being you. Iā€™d like to see them properly do something with her and Doug though because I forget theyā€™re actually supposed to be together most of the time.Ā
Doug - Let him plan a garden show or something insane like that.Ā
Rodney - SMALL DOSES
Nicola and Jimmy - Keep being the legends you are. I want to see Jimmy get properly absolved for all of the Arthur/Archie stuff. I want to see so much more of Councilor Nicola. Iā€™d like to see Jimmy take someone new on at the Haulage firm and maybe just sigh all the time that theyā€™re not Robert because he was better.Ā
Laurel and Jai - I want to see them stay together. I think they work well together. They just need to get through this Graham mess in tact and sort out their kidsā€™ problems. Iā€™d like to see them continue to blend their families though, maybe living together eventually. Iā€™d also like to see Jai have some success in business. Either at the outdoor pursuits place or starting his own thing again.Ā
Priya - LET HER BE A SHARMA AGAIN. Letā€™s forget Rakesh ever existed. GET HER A STORYLINE!!! GIVE HER A NEW LOVE INTEREST! Literally anything.Ā
Rishi and Manpreet - I want to see his chocolate business grow some more. And for them to just keep being as they are.Ā
Pearl - I MISS PEARL! I hope sheā€™s okay. Any Pearl we can get is good.Ā
Dan - Small Doses, stick to the background.Ā
Pete - Please need to leave to go tend to your one remaining brother because his girlfriend got hit by a busā€¦
Tracy - Let Tracy find some business success again. I really liked her trying to start her own business. Or if Andrea goes, let her go work at Take a Vow with Leyla. Let her find love again too.Ā
New Characters I want
A new family at Butlerā€™s Farm - let them be a big family with multiple generations. They decimated the Bartons and the show needs another bigger family coming in all together to balance out all of the Dingles.Ā
A new gay male character in his 20s to take the pressure off of Aaron needing to be in a relationship. I think it would be nice if they were friends though. Let the new guy have some crazy relationships of his own. Could be part of the new family.
Teen lesbian. Could be part of the new family too. I think itā€™d be nice to explore coming out or already being out for the younger generation. Also could be an interesting potential love interest for Liv.Ā

A Love Letter to Liv
My name is Amy and I identify as asexual/aromantic. Iā€™ve spent the last few years of my life coming to terms with what these labels mean and how I relate to them. During this process, Iā€™ve browsed through shows, movies and books, trying to find some stories that were representative of what I was feelingā€”how I experienced the world.
It turns out, there are so few asexual characters that I can practically count them on one hand.
Iā€™m not surprised, just disappointed.
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
One cold and weary February day, I was on YouTube. I typed ā€˜asexual charactersā€™ into the search bar and saw the same handful of examples that I had seen before. Todd Chavez (BoJack Horseman), Voodoo (Sirens), Raphael Santiago (Shadowhunters), Jughead Jones (comics, not Riverdale šŸ˜’). Werenā€™t there any others?
After falling down a rabbit hole, something new finally caught my attention: Liv Opens Up about her Sexuality to Aaron.
Immediately, a few questions emerged in my consciousness.
Whoā€™s Liv?
Whoā€™s Aaron?
What show is this scene from?
Is the character actually asexual?
After watching the clip, I realized its groundbreaking nature. A mainstream show (Emmerdale) was portraying the coming out story of an asexual teenager.
I would have given anything to have seen Livā€™s storyline when I was younger.
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
It took me a long time to come out to myself. I dated my firstā€”and onlyā€”boyfriend when I was 14. My best friend and his best friend were also dating, so it made logistical sense that we should date as well. I didnā€™t feel attracted towards him but I figured those feelings would develop.
As the months went by, my feelings didnā€™t change.
My friends started asking questions. Have you made out? Have you gone to second base?
I stumbled over my answers. I didnā€™t want to admit that I had not initiated anything more than a chaste kiss.
Whatā€™s your favourite thing about him?
His eyes. Thatā€™s what people found attractive, right?
Or maybe his body? I wasnā€™t sure.
Eventually, my boyfriend started to think my behaviour was strange, too. I was afraid of exploring my feelingsā€”or lack thereofā€” and so, I pretended to be interested in him.
And I put on one hell of a performance. I started initiating kisses, making sexual advances; exploring his body, while he explored mine.
It never went that far but it went further than I was comfortable with.
And you canā€™t live a lie forever. After nine months it had become too much and I broke up with him.
However, this action came with its own set of consequences. Our friends were mad at me. They didnā€™t understand why I would dump someone who was kind and supportive and intelligent. I was ostracized from our friend group.
I didnā€™t have the language to explain how I was feeling and therefore, I couldnā€™t communicate this properly. I looked like an utter asshole.
It was then when I decided that I would stay away from dating and focus on school.
And thatā€™s exactly what I did.
From the age of fifteen to eighteen, I refused to date. When two of my male friends asked me out I politely declined, even though I could see that it hurt them.
After many years of ignoring my feelings and ā€˜focusing on schoolā€™ I came to the realization that I wasnā€™t straight.
And if I wasnā€™t straight, there was only one other explanation. I must be gay.
When one of my friends came out as gay at a party, I took a risk and came out as well. However, when the word lesbian exited my mouth, it left behind a bitter taste. I didnā€™t feel comfortable with that label. I assumed it was just coming out jitters and I would eventually feel proud of my identity.
So, once again, years passed and I continued to ignore what I was feeling.
By this time, I was almost 21. Most of my friends were dating and having sex. I was out of excuses. I couldnā€™t continue ignoring my feelings. I needed to find a word that accurately described my identity.
So, I headed to the internet.
I donā€™t remember how I found out about asexuality. I think I heard the term years ago, while I was a teenager, I had just never applied it to myself.
It took me a long time to accept that I was asexual and it took me even longer to accept that I was aromantic.
Once I was comfortable with these labels, I began to search out media that contained asexual or aromatic characters.
Which leads me back to Liv Flaherty.
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
Liv is one of my favourite characters on TV. Sheā€™s smart and sarcastic and headstrong and caring. She loves her family, especially her ā€œweird, gay, brother dads.ā€
Although Livā€™s asexual storyline was what originally drew me to Emmerdale, Iā€™ve subsequently fallen in love with the entire village (except Nate šŸ¤¢).
I will always be grateful for the amazing representation Emmerdale has provided for the asexual community. In a genre where storylines are so often driven by sexual attraction, itā€™s refreshing to have a character who actively rejects these tropes.
It makes me so proud to be aceā€”and thatā€™s something I never thought I would say.

A friend asked me about the sexual orientations and experiences of my characters annd I felt like posting them on here too so here we go:
Arria
Pansexual. Her eyes tended to lay on women more than on men when she was a teenager, but soon discovered before her twenties, that she didn't care much about the gender of the people that attracted her. She had few sexual partners (3 maybe 5 or 6 at max) and even though she is quite flirty and teasing at times, she is rarely seeking sexual acts. Not to say that she doesn't enjoy it or doesn't have cravings, quite the opposite. She just has them and truly enjoys it with people she actually likes, loves even.
Aaron
Bisexual. He discovered his attraction to his own gender during his highschool years, where he shared one with a teammate of his. He truly has no gender preference. The thing tipping off the balance being the intelectual connection he manages to establish or not with his partner. He had his fair share of sexual relationships. More than his sister for sure but not an astronomical amount either. He struggles though, to actually fall for someone. He often genuinly likes his partners and enjoy their company but never manage to truly open up and thus actually build lasting relationships. He also sadly stumbled upon shallow people maybe too often. Leaving him bore of the "relationship" sometimes really fast.
Liv
Asexual. She understood she was after her first time with a man she felt confortable with and was more than respectful with her. Though at first a little curious about it, (Because of the hype around it, the way she felt about her body and how society depicts it) she felt pressured in a way to try it and it was a terrible experience that left its scars in the end. That being said he didn't force her to do anything and she doesn't hold grudges against him to this day. She felt her heart flutter at times with very few people (that she quickly dismissed for nothing much *cough*Theodora&Aaron*cough*) and tends to find women more attractive but never in a sexual way. She had so far never been in a "real" relationship and doesn't particulary seek one.
Tisha
Bisexual. And a raging one at that. She discovered her sexuality quite early, easily befriending people of many ages and backgrounds that helped, with a truly openminded mother, in her upbringing. She enjoys exploring her sexuality and is open to many things, though she actually falls in love quite rarely but hard in every sense of the term. Her first real relationship was with a woman that she was with for a few years. It is arguably possible that she is actually Polyamorous/sexual. Fact that funnily wouldn't surprise her much but baffles her as well, in the sense that she would have bet that some of her friends were but not her.
Damjan
Aromantic. Gender, just as many things in life, is to him of near to none important when he is seeking a sexual partner. And once again, just as with many things in life, he is quite picky with who he decides to share his bed with. Making on an outsider viewpoint his sexual life somehow tame, adding to the fact that he doesn't like nor do talk about it with others. Though he would take offense if called a prude, which he isn't from far judging his pronounced tastes, he as well isn't one to feel a strong need to this kind of things in general especially since he takes great care in chosing his "lovers". He has never been in a relationship because he knows he can't give to his partner things they'd come to want in time and thus doesn't seek one. Perfectly content with his very few but strong friendships and his occasional flings.
Theodora
Lesbian. Tricky subject with her. So far in her life, she had experiences with both genders though not often sexual ones. She actually rarely feels that kind of attraction, but does when she truly bonds intellectually and emotionally with someone. Intellectually being the major point for her to begin to feel some sort of sexual attraction. It doesn't mean that she doesn't know what she likes in that matter. On the contrary. But comming back on her orientation, and even if she didn't mind being with men thus far, she actually is truly attracted romantically to women only. Maybe qualyfing her as a closeted lesbian though she always acknowledged her attraction to her own gender.
Minjun
Pansexual. His sexuality and upbringing is actually one of the biggest factor in the turn his mental health took when he was younger. Minjun understood quite early and to his dread that he wasn't heterosexual and was, during his highschool years and two years beyond, in a sort of denial. Or to be more exact, living with the knowledge that he was something that didn't conform to the norm of the asian family and culture he grew up into, not acting nor ushing a word about it. It was only around his late-twenties that he came to term with it and understood that he actually was pansexual. Accepting it didn't come easily. And the struggle his family (still) had with it being what fueled his uneasyness with his profound love for them, hardly went away until recently, where all that matters now is the person and not the gender he falls for.
Noah
Polyamorous Homosexual. (I can hear him sigh for putting him in a "case" lmao) Noah never really fretted on his sexuality. Being a firm believer that it was fluid from his teens to this day and being quite evasive when asked about it. To him, sexuality is like colors and tastes. Everyone has different ones, and they could even change with time passing by. In his case, he liked every colors and shapes. Or more precisely, could grow to love them all, and even more than one at the same time. But when it comes to a more physical approach, the model can't deny his attraction to men and men only. He isn't ashamed of it and never was. He just knew for a fact that he could fall in love with a woman's mind and personnality too even if he couldn't share more than hugs or kisses with her. He had his share of experiences and even enlightened some of the others about their sexuality, since he always was at ease with his own.
Saengdao
Lesbian. It was like an evidence when she realised she was with the help of Arria. Saengdao always found girls so very pretty when she was younger. More then men. And even if she tried to date a boy when she was around fourteen, it didn't go really far and didn't lasted too long either. Boys used to make her laugh and shake her head where girls made her blush and giggle. And so did Arria, when she first met her under the coaching of Hyejin. Her initial admiration growing tenfold as the first signs of a crush started to squeeze her heart. And if it scared her at first, it went away with the help of the one that made her realize who she was. Her sexuality is somehow taboo to her family which pains her. But they're comming around with it. She had a few girlfriends so far. But they didn't compare to the unrequited love that she has yet to get over for a certain florist and painter.

7 reasons why Emmerdale killing off Gerry Roberts was a big mistake Gone too soonā€¦ Noooooo, Emmerdale! The ITV soap just aired some of its darkest scenes of the year so far, as twisted teen Lachlan White officially became a murderer for the first time by killing his best mate Gerry Roberts. The disturbing moment marked an end to young actor Shaun Thomas's time in the Dales after more than a year in the role of Gerry. But despite being on a roll with their run of strong storylines in 2018, have the show's bosses just lost one of their rising stars way too soon? We say yes, and we're rounding up seven reasons why we reckon getting rid of Gerry was a rare mistake from Team Emmerdale. 1. He brought the fun factor to the village The most obvious reason, but also one of the most important. While zany characters in Soapland can often be more annoying than humorous, Gerry genuinely provided laugh-out-loud moments in his scenes thanks to Shaun Thomas's great comic timing. As much as we love watching Emmerdale's regular mix of punch-ups, kidnappings and shootings, we do also like a laugh every now and again. And sorry guys, Rodney and Misty's amorous antics don't count. 2. The writers were just scratching the surface with Gerry While Gerry was best known for freeloading and falling head over heels for any woman over 40, he also shone in more serious scenes too. Was there anyone who didn't feel awful for him last week when grumpy Doug wrongly accused him of stealing those war medals? Gerry had also just started to open up about his family life and how his father walked out when he was little. While this could have been the chance to delve much deeper with Gerry, it turns out that it was all just a cunning ploy to make us feel even sadder when he died. Boo! 3. There's no shock factor Emmerdale, guess who, silhouette generic The Emmerdale gods are usually masters of surprise ā€“ from Ross Barton's resurrection to Holly Barton's tragic death. And who can forget the annual October disaster weeks, which always leave us on the edge of our seats as we anxiously wait to see who the victims will be? In Gerry's case though, his death was signposted so heavily over the past few days that Emmerdale were only really one step away from putting his demise in the official spoilers. With the show promising a "shock death" and an on-screen trailer showing Lachlan looking murderous with Gerry, it didn't take a genius to figure out what might happen, right? This story really needed an extra twist to pull the rug from under our feet at the final moment. 4. He's a fan favourite Some soap characters are pushed so heavily by the writers that it's almost inevitable they'll become popular through having so many stories and scenes. But Gerry was a perfect example of a villager who built up popularity really naturally, without being particularly favoured by the producers. Originally only introduced for a couple of episodes as Lachlan's cellmate, Gerry later made his way to the village and kept being unexpectedly brought back thanks to his success on screen. And it's not just us saying it ā€“ Digital Spy readers even voted in their thousands to name him as their Best Soap Newcomer of 2017. 5. He'll miss the Robron wedding Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle on Emmerdale's Valentine Special (Febrary 14) With Adam Thomas now out of the Dales, Shaun Thomas taking centre stage as best man at Robron's second wedding always seemed like the next best thing in our eyes. Fans had often speculated over whether Gerry could play a role in the big day after being welcomed in as part of the family by Robron and Liv. Now we'll never get to see the drama of Gerry losing the rings and trying to woo Chas at the wedding reception ā€“ sob! 6. Liv needs a friend Aaron's little sister won't be locked up for long, and we reckon she'll need all the friends she can get when she's back in the village. Not only has Liv finally admitted she has a drinking problem, there's also loads more to explore with her character ā€“ including the early hints of her asexuality. We're sure Gabby will be there for Liv when she's out, but let's not forget that she's hardly been a great influence so far. We reckon Liv also needed Gerry around as a friendly face, or even just someone to play computer games with when times get tough. And isn't it sad that they didn't get a proper final scene together? 7. The Lachlan story is treading a familiar path. We all love a killer storyline, but with unhinged Emma Barton still fresh in the memory and Corrie's Pat Phelan story finally reaching its climax, did we really need Lachlan's murderous moment in the Soapland mix so quickly? There's a danger of us ending up on an all-too-familiar path with Lachlan, as the spur-of-the-moment deaths of Lawrence and Chrissie have now paved the way for a more cruel and callous murder. Thomas Atkinson has said that Lachlan isn't leaving anytime soon, but if it drags out for many more months and conveniently comes to a head in October's Super Soap Week, it'll feel very Groundhog Day. And no, not in the wacky Robert Sugden coma dream wayā€¦ Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays

to @dingleminyard, love from your secret santa!
ā€œOh, come on Aaron! Please?ā€ Liv begged down the phone. ā€œYou know you want toā€¦ā€ She added in sing-song voice.
In actual fact, there was nothing Aaron could think of that he wanted to do less right now. The scrapyard had been mental all week, he had hardly seen his husband, he had a million and one things he needed to do and helping Liv paint her and Gabbyā€™s new love-nest was not at the top of his list.
He looked down at the mountain of paperwork currently littering his desk and scrunched his face up before pressing his fingers to the bridge of his nose. He hadnā€™t got the chance to check out his sisterā€™s new house in Hotten yet, aside from a few blurry photos on her phone hastily waved before his face (for a recently graduated Art student, Liv really needed to work on her photography skills).
He blew out a breath and ran a hand through his hair. ā€œOkay, fine. Give me an hour and Iā€™ll be right over.ā€ He could help the smile spreading on his face when he heard the excited squeal at the other end of the phone. ā€œBut you better have all the edges taped up before I get there, and I refuse to paint any ceilings.ā€
ā€œDeal. Youā€™re the best, big bro.ā€
When he pulled into the driveway, he wasnā€™t surprised to see Robertā€™s car already parked there. If Liv had been able to talk Aaron into helping, it was safe to assume she did the exact same thing with her brother-in-law.
It had been a rough few months after he and Robert got back together, with Liv taking longer to accept it than even Chas. Robert knew heā€™d hurt her, nearly as much as he knew heā€™d hurt Aaron. He spent months walking on egg shells around her, never quite settling into the Mill again. If he wasnā€™t getting the cold shoulder it was a snarky one liner that cut just a bit too close to the bone; comments about Seb and Rebecca, even a few about Alex thrown in for good measure. It was driving Aaron mad and although he kept insisting he deserved it, Aaron could tell it was hurting Robert more than heā€™d admit.
That was until Livā€™s big ā€˜coming out.ā€™ Ā
Aaron thought there was something more bothering her than just the normal ā€˜hating Robertā€™ routine. Sheā€™d been moodier than usual for a solid week, with even the standard attitude towards Rob dying off to a sullen silence. Aaron was worried but every time he tried to talk to her, all he got was an eye roll and a slammed door in the face. He knew Belle was involved or at least knew something, but she was keeping tight lipped too.
Then Liv got drunk, obviously, and came staggering into the pub announcing it for the world to hear. Thankfully it had been near to closing on a Wednesday night, so the only people to hear her big announcement was him, Robert, Chas and a passed-out Sandy in the corner.
Asexual. Thatā€™s what sheā€™d been shouting about. And to be honest, Aaron wasnā€™t quite sure how to handle that.
Heā€™d gotten the whole story from Belle later. Apparently, it wasnā€™t just Gabby that had picked up on her lack of interest in ā€˜all thatā€™ at school. Some boys (Aaron could think of a few better words to describe them than that) had started a betting pool; first one to get a snog (or more) off Liv won. Thatā€™s why sheā€™d been in a bad mood all week, Jacob had got wind of it and had warned her. It made Aaron sick just thinking about it. Ā
After him and Robert had taken her home and sobered her up, she still wouldnā€™t talk to him about it. She just felt embarrassed and Aaron didnā€™t really know what to do. He knew what it felt like to be ashamed of who you are, but heā€™d felt ashamed of who he was attracted to, not for a lack of it altogether. He didnā€™t want to say anything to make it worse, so he hadnā€™t really said anything at all. It was Robert who came to the rescue. Heā€™d always had an inkling apparently, and had done some research. After a heart to heart with Liv, which Aaron wasnā€™t privy to but he figured Rob must have done something right, he filled Aaron in on everything Asexual and helped him understand.
After that it was like everything fell into place. Robert and Liv finally settled back into each otherā€™s company meaning Aaron could breathe easy and just enjoy having his husband back.
For a first home, the little semi-detached Liv and Gabby had found themselves wasnā€™t bad. It was a small two up two down, just on the right side of Hotten that didnā€™t break the bank. It was far enough away that they had their own space, but not so far that a quick car ride over was out of the question. When Aaron had suggested they take the still empty upstairs flat in the Mill (she had paid for it after all) Liv looked at him like heā€™d grown another head.
ā€œMaybe someday, but Iā€™ve spent the last six years hearing your sex life through my bedroom wall, I donā€™t need to hear it through my Kitchen floor as well, thanks.ā€
Aaron had turned beetroot red, as Robert snorted behind him and Gabby tried to avoid eye contact with both of them.
He walked up the steps to the newly painted blue door and knocked. He could hear music blasting from an open window upstairs (Little Mix, so Gabbyā€™s choice by the sounds of it) so knocked again, harder.
ā€œItā€™s open!ā€ he heard yelled from upstairs. He rolled his eyes before turning the handle and following the music to the bedroom.
ā€œLiv, are you sure itā€™s a good idea to leave the door lying unlocked in a neighbourhood you just- WHAT THE HELL?ā€
Every wall in the room had been painted in a different variety of striped colours. The wall directly in front of him had been painted every colour of the rainbow, quite literally. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet all stiped horizontally across. The wall to the right of that was striped in black, grey, white and purple, with the wall to the left striped pink, purple and blue. Gabby and Liv stood in the middle of the room, paintbrushes in hand and covered in every colour imaginable.
ā€œWhat dā€™ya think?ā€ asked Liv, a massive grin on her face.
His jaw was almost on the floor and he was at a loss of words. ā€œWha- why- are you serious?ā€
ā€œAbsolutely,ā€ Liv answered, the grin never wavering.
He was still struggling to form a coherent sentence when he heard a shuffling on the other side of the door behind him. He turned to face his husband as he came in, eager to hear what he had to say about the monstrosity of colours currently assaulting his eyes.
ā€œOkay girls, time for a tea break I think- Oh, hi Aaron!ā€
Robert had obviously been helping, but it would appear only on one wall. He had pink streaks of paint in his dishevelled hair, with a mishmash of blue and purple staining his shirt and trousers. The grin on his face almost matched Livā€™s as he held out a tray of mugs of tea.
ā€œWell? Do you like it?ā€
It started slowly, but soon the smile was touching both ears as he took in the sight of his husband, a man once so ashamed of who he was, who would go to any lengths to keep it hidden, covered head to toe in the colours of the Bisexual pride flag with a massive shit-eating grin on his face.
He pulled him in for a kiss over the top of the tray, taking Robert by surprise and nearly spilling the tea.
ā€œI love it,ā€ he said as they pulled apart. ā€œSomeone hand me a paintbrush.ā€

My worry is that they've put all the labelled LGBT+ rep in one house. They refuse to label Vanity, which means its in one house. I've got a homophobic relative, who loves ED, but "Can't be doing with the weird ones in that house." Meaning Aaron and Robert. I wish a different character had been given this asexuality story, because it doesn't help when bigoted people already think something like sexuality is a thing that you can "catch." I do hope this goes well for you though, its important.
My mum is very liberal and wonderful and she made comments about a bisexual person who came into my cousinā€™s life that were really crass aka ā€œIā€™m just waiting for him to cheat on herā€. Ugh. My mum didnā€™t realise that her words were really not great. I explained to her and we had a chat and she realised. So I get it, people are uneducated still and thereā€™s no need to be cruel back or snappy or dismissive but having a discussion is the best way but there will ALWAYS be bigoted, homophobic, dismissive people. Sometimes they canā€™t be talked to and thatā€™s a shame. Iā€™m sorry you have to put up with those comments.
I donā€™t see anything at all wrong with Aaron being gay, Rob being bi and Liv being ace and them all living together. Tbh I kind of adore it but Hahahaha catching? If anyone even attempts to make such a ridiculous argument then theyā€™re just beyond logical discussion. Aaron and Liv have been separated for years, Rob has made it clear heā€™s been bi his whole life but denied himself etc. If people make such silly arguments then well, I donā€™t know what to tell them.
Vanity are in their infancy. Vanessa has very SPECIFICALLY said she doesnā€™t know how she identifies and thatā€™s wonderful and sheā€™s having a great time working it out! She has had some EXCELLENT discussions and wonderful moments of real self discovery and she doesnā€™t have a label for herself but thatā€™s fine! The show have very clearly shown this and thatā€™s not a bad thing. Some people donā€™t want to pick a word that they think sums them up, some donā€™t know yet and so donā€™t label themselves. I think if a show is going to go down the route of exploring sexuality then they need to make it clearā€¦ and Vanessa has! She has made it clear sheā€™s questioning and doesnā€™t know but is experimenting to find out. If theyā€™d said nothing then that would be a different matter.
Charity is an odd one and I agree that theyā€™d perhaps do well to explore that more but they might! Charity is a very specific character though. She doesnā€™t define a lot of her lifeā€¦ sheā€™s a law unto herself so, to me, it isnā€™t a shock that they are taking their time with that. I do agree that there is a fine line because it isnā€™t useful to use tactics in writing like ā€œIā€™m not gay I just like youā€ā€¦ etc. I think with those two, itā€™s so new! I think Charity has made it very clear that she fancies the pants of Vanessa, that she likes her and wants her in many ways. Thatā€™s a great thing and a really fabulous step in the right direction. Vanessa isnā€™t an exception or isnā€™t torturing Charity etcā€¦ Charity is blatant in her ways, isnā€™t shying away from it and the whole thing is refreshingly open and fun and light. I really love it and donā€™t feel it has fallen into the kind of tropey mess it could haveā€¦.!
I hope this makes sense, anon. Iā€™d advise you to ignore comments like those you mentioned!

Just wanted to say I really love your writing style!! If you have chance I was wondering if you could write something about Liv coming out as asexual to Aaron and her asking what it was like for him coming out? Thank you ā˜ŗļø
Aaron had been treading carefully around Liv for days now.Sheā€™d been acting very differently around him. When she wasnā€™t avoiding him, she was snapping at him, in general she had a very short fuse when it came to him. Around others sheā€™d been unusual quiet.
He knew something was bothering he, but he had no idea what it could be.Heā€™d been keeping the mill clean, tidy and in good condition. He even cooked more and they ordered way less junk food.
Liv had gone straight to her room when she had come home from school.Aaron had knocked on her door, tried to get her to talk to him. He even sat down on the floor outside her room for almost an hour. She never opened her door to him.
Aaron was sitting in front of the tv watching top gear. He heard Liv coming down the stairs. If she had thought that he would just let it go, she had thought very wrong.ā€œLivā€¦ tell me whatā€™s going on.ā€ She stopped on the staircase and was almost turning to go back up. ā€œDonā€™t.. please donā€™t.ā€ Aaron was looking at her with sadness and worry in his eyes. ā€œIf Iā€™ve done something wrong, something to upset you, anything at all, please tell me, so I can make it up for you.ā€Liv took a deep breath. It hurt her to know that Aaron Automatically thought that heā€™d done something wrong. It hurt her to know that Sheā€™d made him think that.Aaron made room for her on the sofa.Liv reluctantly got all the way down the stairs and sat on the sofa.ā€œYouā€™re my sister Liv, what ever is wrongā€¦ you can tell meā€¦. Whatā€™s going on in this head of yours?ā€ā€œJust been thinking.ā€ She said, just above a whisper. She took one of the pillows and held it tight. Like a hug.ā€œAbout?ā€ā€œHow.. how was it when you came out?ā€Aaron hadnā€™t expected that question.ā€œUhmā€¦ā€ heā€™d been caught a bit off guard, but quickly managed to get himself together.ā€œIt was horrible to be honest.ā€ ā€œOh.ā€ Liv said looking down.ā€œI mean, paddy was the first one in the village to find outā€¦ he pushed, you know like paddy does and he got me to admit it.. i didnā€™t want to be gay, so I thanked him by beating him up.ā€ ā€œOh.. yeah, Iā€™ve heard a little bit about that.ā€ Liv held the pillow even tighter.ā€œI was in denial, I was scared. I somehow thought that it would ruin my life.ā€ He looked cautious at Liv,she didnā€™t meet his eyes.ā€œAnd when I found out that marlon knew and that Chas knew, I made a choice.ā€ Liv was now looking at him. ā€œWhat choice?ā€ā€œI locked myself in the garage and I started the engine and waited to die.ā€ Aaron could see the tears in her eyes and he felt a lump in his throat.ā€œLuckily I survived.ā€ Aaron smiled. ā€œIt took me a long time to come to terms with itā€¦ and I had a lot of help and support.ā€ He smiled a barely there thoughtful smile, thinking back at the support that Jackson had given him.ā€œIt wasnā€™t a choice, so there was no point in trying to change it, change me.ā€Liv looked at her brother, tears streaming down her face.ā€œIā€™m asexual.ā€ She held her breath longer than normal.ā€œSorry..i..ā€ā€œForget it..ā€ she said and got up, but Aaron took a gentle hold of her arm and guided her back down.ā€œNo Liv, I mean I donā€™t.. really think I know what that is.ā€ā€œIt meansā€¦ that I donā€™t feel the same way for men like you doā€¦ I donā€™t feel like that for anyone really.ā€She was scared, Aaron could see that.ā€œOh.. okay.ā€ It was like a little light bulb had turned on inside his head.ā€œThank you.ā€ He said pulling her in for a hug, She returned it while saying ā€œwhy are you thanking me, Iā€™ve not exactly been easy to around.ā€ Aaron pulled away from the hug, smiling his special smile, just for her. ā€œFor telling me.. Iā€™m here for you, I donā€™t want you to think you canā€™t tell me things.. I donā€™t want you feeling the way I did.ā€ Liv nudged against him, to get him to hug her again, he did and she rested her head on his shoulder.ā€œI promise.ā€ Liv smiled and closed her eyes, enjoying the feeling.

Why Emmerdale's Liv Flaherty is a rising star for the future.
Isobel Steele as Liv Flaherty in EmmerdaleITV
When Emmerdale's Liv Flaherty arrived on our screens three years ago, on first impressions she seemed every bit your troublesome teenager. From kicking Robert Sugden in the crown jewels, to causing chaos with new best mate Gabby Thomas, Liv was quite a handful.
But she didn't have an easy start to life in Emmerdale, and it became clear there was a lot more to Liv's character than just a typical teen. Now that she has stepped forward as a key player in the Maya and Jacob storyline, we think she's one to watch as a star of the future.
Introduced as Aaron Dingle's estranged little sister, Liv was immediately thrown into one of Emmerdale's most powerful storylines and managed to hold her own alongside huge fan-favourite characters. As Liv struggled knowing Aaron had been sexually abused as a child by their dad Gordon, viewers saw the impact of Gordon's grooming on Liv too.
From the start Liv was multi-layered and conflicted, and actress Isobel Steele impressed us straight away with emotionally charged performances. It even earned her a British Soap Award nomination within months of her debut, and a win two years later.
You might think being the little sister of a popular character like Aaron Dingle, and moving in with supercouple Robron, Liv might have struggled for her own slice of the limelight. At first Liv was mostly used as an antagonist or matchmaker between the tumultuous couple, and the tight-knit family unit we know now was a long way off.
It seemed too as if writers were set on moulding Liv into a mini-Aaron ā€“ complete with his scowls and angst ā€“ but three years on, Liv has forged her own personality.
Liv hasn't been short of challenging storylines since she arrived. After Gordon's trial and subsequent suicide, Liv regularly turned to alcohol to cope. To begin with, her drunken misbehaviour and bunking school were dismissed as adolescent rebellion, but it was last year when things got serious and the drinking became a real problem. After spiking Lisa's drink, Liv faced a spell in youth offenders and we saw another showcase of Isobel's vulnerable performances.
Emmerdale has also covered new ground with Liv's character by exploring issues of identity and asexuality. Refreshingly Liv has been shown to explore this at her own pace, revealing in heartfelt scenes to Aaron that she has read up on her identity online. Liv is yet to put a name on her identity but her openness and sensitivity is something that seems to strike a poignant note with viewers.
As Liv has grown up, we've seen her storylines and her attitude mature with her and her versatility as a character has manifested through her many close relationships. From her sweet mentorship with grandfatherly figure Doug, to her enduring and supportive friendship with Gabby. We've even seen her relationships with Aaron and Robert evolve, as the trio present a united front and tackle arising problems as a family.
Liv's not afraid to make a few enemies either. Last year she got on the wrong side of Lachlan White ā€“ and would have exposed him if she'd been listened to. This year, however, we've seen Liv become embroiled in the complex Maya and Jacob storyline, as she has attempted to blackmail the pair for her silence.
We've loved Liv's role in this story, from her tentative and relatable teenage worries about dating, to her massive moral dilemma, this has been a surprising direction for her character. While viewers have debated what Liv should do, she has been troubled with the same concerns herself.
Torn between a naĆÆve heartbreak that made her want to seek revenge, and in turn help raise funds for Aaron and Robert's surrogacy, she's also aware of how dangerous Maya is. As Liv faced up to twisted Maya, we were gripped by the scenes, proving once and for all that Liv's more than capable of leading a storyline and bringing down a villain.
As the Maya plot reaches its climax, we've recently watched Liv discover that Leyla, Tracy and Priya are hiding some dark secrets about Maya's fate. This was another unexpected twist to the story, but allowed Liv to continue to play a crucial role alongside big characters she wouldn't usually interact with.
We were impressed by the tension in these dramatic scenes and how prominent and pivotal Liv continues to be. This story has set a precedent for her involvement in Emmerdale's biggest storylines and we hope paves the way for her long future in the show.
We think Liv has established herself as a real star, capable of leading important and gripping storylines, and we can't wait to see what the future holds.
Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Jennyā€™s Belated Live Blogging - 6th February 2019
- Hooray for Jai getting screen time. Although I really wanted him to relate Manpreetā€™s spending addiction to his own addiction experience but oh well. Still nice to see him actually get to be a part of a story again. Also, his reaction to Manpreet and Rishi trying to say goodbye forever was priceless.Ā
- Go Nicola trying to get her job back even though I know itā€™s not going to work out. #TeamCockroach
- Dawn breaks my heart but she did the right thing and Iā€™m very proud of her. I wouldnā€™t have minded Ryan relating things to his own adoption but really, the scenes with that story were great today.Ā
- Iā€™m glad Kerry conceded that Cain could see Kyle at least a bit. His little smile when she mentioned he needed his dad was super sweet. Can we just wrap up all of this murder nonsense and ship Debbie off soon please?Ā
- Poor Doug. No one ever appreciates him enough. Not Diane, not Brenda. Can he meet someone new at a gardening convention?Ā
- God I hate Maya. She really does just make my skin crawl. Iā€™m always so on edge during her scenes. Which means theyā€™re doing a great job. But I feel so bad for Jacob. I just want him to be okay and get out of this traumatic mess and get some support. I was happy that he told her off again at the end even though Iā€™m concerned about what sheā€™s going to do next and how thatā€™s going to affect his relationship with Liv.Ā
- He does continue to be lovely with Liv though and vice versa. I hope Maya doesnā€™t destroy them so much that she canā€™t be there for him when this all comes out. I think itā€™d be really great for her to support him as much as heā€™s been there for her the past few days.Ā
- I was very happy to see Aaron give Liv a chance to explain herself. Heā€™s not totally wrong. If she doesnā€™t let him know whatā€™s going on, how is he supposed to know things have changed. Doesnā€™t make his overreaction right yesterday because he could have listened to her then. Still, itā€™s good he got her to open up. And I like that he just stood/sat there and listened and let her explain and gave her a smile and his infamous arm touch to let her know heā€™s there for her.Ā
- I was also happy to see him go over and apologize to Jacob. Especially since the spoilers kept describing it asĀ ā€˜Aaron goes to have another pop at Jacobā€™ which is completely not what the scene was. Haha. Also, Livā€™sĀ ā€˜cave manā€™ line was a nice touch.Ā
- On the subject of Liv, I think itā€™s great that theyā€™re allowing her the screen time to explain herself and work out how she feels by talking it out. Iā€™m glad they mentioned that she did her research and tried to find other people similar to her. It all feels very authentic and hits very close to home. Iā€™m fine with her not actually saying the wordĀ ā€˜asexualā€™ yet. I mean, I thought we might get there today when she said sheā€™d done her research because I imagine that would be the word she would have found, but I still think she was very explicit about the specifics of how she feels even if she didnā€™t say the word. And thereā€™s absolutely still time for her to say it. That doesnā€™t mean they will have her say it because they do have a sometimes questionable track record with these things, especially with female characters. That said, Iā€™m certainly not ready to call it a failure yet. Iā€™m very happy to see someone on screen expressing things Iā€™ve felt even if at that age I had no clue. Haha. Iā€™m just glad theyā€™re attempting it.Ā
- Also, Aaronā€™s facial expressions were great.Ā
