Week 49.2/52: December 4th - December 10th 2023 | Liuyishou AYCE 🍲
Dinner & bbt with KT!! My taobao order arrived, hence the new outfit. Bought plenty of cute tops and sets this time. We went to take photobooth photos first before dinner. Always so fun. I am slowly starting a big collection and I am loving it. I am Life4Cut biggest client right now. We went to eat Liuyishou hot pot AYCE after. I haven't eaten any hot pot for 2 months since my Dolar Shop AYCE because I just CANNOT. Ate so many meats both times. And this one broke me too!!!! I don't want any more hot pots for a long time... food was decent but I got so full once again. Ended off the day with Coconut water drink with coconut jelly and coconut meal from Cocobay 🥥 YUM YUM YUM! They also had cute decorations 🌴
First day with G7x2 and I love it!

black friday
life has been easier the last two weeks (knock on wood) post covid. we went to montreal for 5 days. i would say it was the best couples trip that we’ve had. prior to residency, my time for traveling was limited because of the working in office situation. during residency, there was a LOT of rushing/exhaustion/feelings of anxiety in general and not enough headspace to really enjoy and relax during our trips (also in addition to covid worries and extra protocols). i’m making it a point to do more slow traveling and relaxation instead of checking things off in the destination whenever we/i travel.
montreal summary:
it’s only a 1.5 hour flight but we felt transported to a whole new world the moment we got into uber and the dude spoke french/french music was playing
stayed in a sonder for the first time and got ourselves a nice studio apartment in downtown montreal (just like home, but in montreal!). i really liked the extra space/home feeling as opposed to a hotel. loved having en suite laundry, a dishwasher and sunlight in our room! it was walking distance to about half of the things we wanted to do which made it super convenient to just go out, come back home, go out, come back etc. instead of being out the entire day like how we used to do travels
i got credited back $150 for the sonder because i asked for an extra blanket and they could not provide one due to availability
utilized the sonder’s gym and dry and wet sauna
ate very very well: bar george, joe beef, liuyishou, mon lapin (our favorite), poutineville, boustan and was thoroughly impressed by montreal’s food scene and talent
enjoyed the snow and festive feelings of the city. the cold weather over there is much more enjoyable than NYC to me because the city is no where as dense
checked out the pier and went on a lovely ferris wheel ride
mount royal was an amazing “hike”/stair stepping through the snow
got a couples massage at spa diva. the ambiance is the nicest we’ve been to (got to relax in their wellness area and got complimentary tea and chocolate covered strawberries). the massage was just OK - my lady went too hard and my massage was quite painful that i wanted to punch her
watched wakanda forever (cheaper to do so in montreal than NYC lol)
found out that they have yin ji chang fen (our fav chang fen/HK milk tea spot) - got HK milk tea twice
went grocery shopping/pharmacy shopping in person for essentials (this is something we rarely do in NYC because of all the apps available here) and also got local quebec barista milk to drink!
being in downtown montreal, i was pleasantly reminded of how quiet life is outside of NYC haha. no honking, no yelling, people walking at a normal pace. uber drivers were nice, people in the city there were generally nicer/friendlier.
matt is on his day shifts this week and it’s been the easiest/best schedule wise since he started work. there hasn’t been working past 7pm, and he has left at 4pm on multiple occasions so far. this week is his birthday week as well as thanksgiving.
birthday: celebration at bobo nyc. happy hour oysters $1/piece and french food. montreal ruined us with elevating our standards for french food that this meal didn’t taste as amazing haha
thanksgiving: i planned a hangout with T so that we both wouldn’t be alone on thanksgiving day. we initially met at central park, then walked to rockefeller and then to bryant park. the macy’s day parade had just happened. this city is wayyyy too crowded on thanksgiving day and i was happy to retreat back to my studio afterwards. i picked up YJCF for our thanksgiving dinner. we got delicious holiday pies from cafe d’avignon. i got a little bit of holiday blues (i’ll also be spending majority of xmas eve and xmas alone this year) but it was way easier to manage knowing we have “vacation” again soon.
money: we’ve only had 1.5 of matt’s paychecks as of now, the next one is coming in a week. our combined monthly income has doubled since october. i can already see how easy it is to inflate our lifestyle with increased travels/spendings and end up living paycheck to paycheck again. it’s getting easier and easier to spend money and we’re walking that fine line between having fun/enjoying fruits of labor, and almost being irresponsible. it is also compensating for being deprived and having lost time to live during residency. i did say i wanted us to enjoy the first few paychecks but it is also a scary feeling for me as i was never comfortable spending money. it’s time to buckle down and take care of our personal finances and start using spreadsheets again. but, for the first time in my life, i finally felt “fuck, we’re quite rich now” LOL

Californian Asian food is LEGENDARY.
Houston has a very large Asian population and it was WONDERFUL. My boyfriend and I used to go to Dun Huang Plaza all the time for this wonderful Malaysian restaurant called Banana Leaf, and then get mochi at a delightful little dessert place that closed shortly before we moved. There was also a hot pot restaurant, Liuyishou--only got in once, because it was always packed! Absolutely delicious.
Our last year there we lived near the Koreatown, so we were spoiled for options. Both an H-mart and a 99 Ranch nearby! 85 Degrees, a Taiwanese bakery chain, also had a store just two streets down, I put on so much weight because of those guys. Bought my first mooncakes there, they were selling boxes for Mid-Autumn Festival and I couldn't resist.
My current location is much smaller and less diverse, so I came in with lower expectations about the international eating scene. I can't tell you how happy I am to be wrong! I've eaten some of the best Indian food in my life here, honest to God. Three words: SPICED. SWEET. TEA. It will blow your damn mind.
the best part of being an American is how people will move here from other countries and build restaurants where you can eat their delicious food and there's always more people moving in and there's always more delicious food to discover. like. why do people not like immigrants. do you not want FOOD. you have never known the ecstasy of walking into a tiny hole in the wall and an iraqi mom comes out and feeds you iraqi mom food, and it shows.

Week 3.4/52: January 16th - January 22nd 2023 | Liuyishou 🌶️🥥
Reunited with Shelly! Few weeks ago she randomly texted me asking to eat together because it’s been awhile (I haven’t seen her since my birthday actually)... I was so thrilled LOL. We went to eat at Liuyishou Richmond and tried their spicy & coconut chicken soup bases. We definitely ordered a bit too much but it was yum regardless. Meat in spicy broth was AMAZING and meat just went down so smoothly. Coconut water in the coconut chicken broth was quite sweet but I love the strong juice flavour - also the real coconut meat was yyds literally so god tier so yummy I love coconuts. Also got free plum juice with the meal because I had a coupon hehehe. A successful meal! LEFT SUPER FULL.

Hello everyone, I just went to Oregon-Seattle so I want to share a little. Thank you to my team for knowing the places to hang out in these two states
📌 We bought a plane ticket from LAX through Oregon. Then I rented a car from Oregon to Seattle (about 3 hours). From Seattle, we flew back to LAX, and the fare was $215.
📌 From LAX we flew 2.5 hours to PDX in Portland and then we took an Uber to the Park Lane Suite & Inn. I have a reference that in downtown Portland especially china town in the evening is not safe so I book the hotel a little far away.
*Note: There is an Uber reservation at the airport, so you just go straight to the door and stand in the lane for Uber, Lift,... Because I did not know, I should follow the airport bus to the parking, so I stood all day waiting for that bus to take back to the airport to catch Uber 😭😭😭
📌Aug the next day we booked Uber to rent a car near the airport (Thrifty). We choose a small car to travel for convenience and buy insurance with the filling part (recommend this section because when I add on this part I do not need to fill the tank when returning the car). At the time of receiving the car was 462miles that we went 3 days when we paid for still hehe gasoline 😉 the rental price was $ 300.
Tumblr media
📌 The first place we went was to Munomah waterfall. This place is highly rated because just after parking the car, I saw the beautiful waterfall right in front of me without much walking hehehe. Parking is scarce and if you can't find it you'll have to walk further because there are many small waterfalls around that place.
Tumblr media
📌 The Queen is colder than Cali so I wore extra warm clothes and remembered to bring them in the rain room as well. Luckily, it didn't rain in Oregon 😄. Then I went shopping at Pioneer Square and Washington Square, everything is tax free in Oregon so everyone took the opportunity to shop.
Tumblr media
📌 I tried the ramen at Boxer Ramen near my house, the store is quite small but beautiful and cozy. Addicted to milk tea, I also tried to find a restaurant to drink it at. Younique was quite quiet, beautifully decorated and lovely, closed for the night in Oregon - a gentle city.
Tumblr media
📌 The next morning, we bought breakfast at Good Taste China town, the restaurant was a bit cold because we came early and bought all the food in the car because the restaurant didn't offer dining yet. Then we drove through Seattle (about 3 hours).
Tumblr media
📌I check in at the Bell Town Inn right in downtown Seattle because it's convenient to get somewhere nearby.
In Seattle, it was hard to find parking, so I bought a $30 hotel parking garage in the hotel's garage.
The reason is that when checking in ngta will ask me whether to park in public parking or garage price is the same but the garage is safer.
Then we went to Pike Public market, Gum wall, Starbucks Reserve, Space Needles, Amazon Spheres,...
Tumblr media
📌 That night the rain fell, so we chose to eat hot pot to heat the 🤣 in LiuYiShou Hot pot about 15' from downtown. We wanted to eat at swish swish, which our friend recommended that they closed early, so we had the opportunity to try hihi.
📌 The next day we went to Gene Coulon Memorial Park to see the gold leaf, which was really picturesque. Then we picked up the car and took a shuttle to Seattle airport back to LAX (2.5 hours) for the end of a trip.
Tumblr media
This time the Seattle executive hope to help you like to travel!
