the svsss extras are actually so insane, one moment you're reading about the heartbreaking past between shen jiu and qi yue and about trauma and cycles of abuse, about luo binghe mourning shen yuan and staying with his body every day for years, about shang qinghua being offered the chance to go home and not taking it because he was miserable and lonely, and then the next tianlang-jun is trying to set zhuzhi-lang up with shen yuan and encouraging him to bride-steal?? and then shang qinghua is ordering mobei-jun to make him noodles while fantasizing about writing a danmei peak lord orgy?? cottagecore bingqiu?? everyone thinking shen qingqiu got pregnant with luo binghe's child??? og pidw fans apparently being qijiu and binggejiu shippers?? hello what??

It's another family reunion and I was sitting in the corner watching over my cousing, just reading a fic.

Suddenly, one of them spawned just behind me and asked what i'm reading.

Oh, my sweet summer child. I'll talk about it with you in a few years when you can swear to not snich to your parents and actually not break that promise. And when I'm not afraid you read something you shouldn't.

I told him i'm reading an article about birds bc i know things about birds. Then i had to spend half an hour telling him about birds, when they were just about to to kiss.

Although to be fair at his age I already wrote my own fanfiction even if at the time I wasn't aware that's what it is. God. He's at the age I already...

I came up with this because I enjoy torturing myself and others with tragic plots. Based on the line “Somebody told me, that you had a boyfriend that looked like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year.”

Probably best suited to a modern AU, LBH spots LQG at some kind of gathering. He’d heard that LQG had a new boyfriend, but something about the man beside him looks familiar. He doesn’t usually like interacting with LQG if he can help it, but he’s curious about this stranger. It’s not until he’s upon them that he recognizes the person and realizes his mistake.

Maybe someone in the circle tries to introduce them, but it’s with a shuttered look that Shen Yuan interrupts and says, “Binghe and I already know each other.  I go by Shen Yuan now.” And he holds out a hand to shake like he and LBH weren’t INTIMITELY acquainted before last year. I think LBH would still be in too much shock, faced with the love of his life dating someone else (AND BOY IF LBH HADN���T THOUGHT IT SUSPICIOUS WHEN HE HEARD THAT LQG WAS DATING WHEN THE MAN HAD BEEN AFTER HIS PARTNER FOR YEARS). When LBH doesn’t take SY’s hand, he retracts it and tries to explain that he had realized he was a man and he couldn’t pretend he wasn’t. He says he knew LBH was straight and so that’s what led to him breaking up with LBH last year. He did it before Valentine’s day, because he thought LBH deserved better than to go through a romantic holiday he loved when SY knew they would have to break up soon.

Now for the tragedy. LBH sees this man in front of him, and he’s still in love. It’s not that LBH was “straight” so much as it was that he was in love with SY. He was in love, and our dear maiden-hearted, romantic Bing-mei was planning to PROPOSE on that Valentine’s day. He was absolutely broken hearted when SY dumped him before he could, and barely gave any explanation. Worse than that was that SY more or less disappeared from all social media, so it was like the love of his life disappeared entirely. It would be one thing if he met SY again now as a single man, but he’s here as LQG’s BOYFRIEND which means LBH has no chance. He lost the love of his life and he wasn’t given the opportunity to do anything about it.

I finished svsss

I quite liked it. I didn't cry as i expected but i did feel extremely bad at some scenes to the point that i get teary when i think of them

But while reading I was very unbothered

I have a few points to make

Luo Binghe is an interesting character and he's so well written. All of them are really well written i have no complaints about that. Sadly even if I enjoyed his character i didn't get very attached to him. Both Luo Binghe And Shen Qingqiu have some issues and they misunderstand each other so much! Reading tgcf changed me- XL and HC are so understanding with each other and then we have these two.

Really a 180° from the "even if you must keep secrets from me I understand" couple to the "I don't trust you because im pretty sure you hate me" couple.

My favourite character that didn't even appear except for flashbacks was Shen Jiu. I wish there was more of him i love characters who are sad and bitter and jealous and mean. I'd say I have an "I can fix him mentality" but its really more of an "I want him as he is" one.

And he was always on my mind while reading cause Shen Yuan really came and took over just like that and we aren't told what happened to my man. And if he saw what was happening to his body he'd be horrified too.

Wahhh and the relationship he had with Liu Qingge! I actually don't remember them interacting more than once? And its Liu Qingge reminding him he didn't get to start cultivation at the age he was supposedly to (so mean!!). I really wish they had the chance to make up. Do i ship them?? Idk possibly but i mainly just want them to get along.

Not only his relationship with Liu Qingge but also Yue Qingyuan! I know what happened between them but i don't think it was from the main story? I believe i saw some posts about it since I don't remember much being said of them in the actual book other that Yue Qingyuan seems to favour him. Perhaps it's in one of the extras. They're so sad anyway! Yue Qingyuan is so understanding and good to Shen Jiu! Obviously its partly cause he feels bad but did he really even have the chance to save Shen Jiu? Im sure he would have if he really had the means.

Idk if you can tell I go crazy for tragic bitter-sweet character relationships...

What im realising is that i really just wanted a book from the perspective of Shen Jiu (T°T)

I know the whole fandom says Shen Qingqiu is a cat but the way he acts with Qingge is totally a ferret🤭

JIUYUAN AND LIUSHEN TRUTHERS RISE UP!!

I've said before that one of the things that make Shen Yuan so loveable is how complex he is. That well-roundedness makes him easily compliment many different characters.

Liushen is simple and has a classic charm. A modern, playful young man teasing his easily flustered, old fashioned shidi. Liu Qingge protecting Shen Yuan like a knight in shining armour every chance he gets. The way they're both oblivious to their feelings, but care for each other. It's very cute and pure in a way. It's like a story book yearning romance.

Now as for Jiuyuan... it might be my favourite svsss ship after Bingqiu/Binggeyuan.

One thing I really love about svsss is how it critiques kindness with circumstance. For example, people forget that the only reason Shen Jiu was ever captured by Qiu Jianluo was because he saved another beggar child.

This combined with him trying to save Liu Qingge and being accused of his murder means Shen Jiu has been proven the same lesson over and over and over: being kind and helping people will always be his downfall. No one has ever appreciated any of his efforts to be a good person.

Then we have Shen Yuan, who is the exact opposite: while Liu Qingge was Shen Jiu's downfall, Shen Yuan's attempt to save him earned him Qingge's loyalty and he got someone who would always defend him.

Now imagine, someone like Shen Jiu who's hated by everyone for being selfish and cruel, hiding how badly he wants to be selfless and good, meeting Shen Yuan, someone who is universally beloved.

Shen Jiu would HATE Shen Yuan. If he thought he hated Binghe for having everything he never did, imagine his reaction to someone like this. Someone who had a big family he was close with, someone who never had any worries because he was born rich, someone who can be kind and be rewarded for it. He would want Shen Yuan DEAD.

But Shen Yuan is the type of person who can't hate anyone. Oh, he'll pretend to. He'll yell at Shang Qinghua all day, then let him into his home to have dinner together. He even felt bad for Zhuzhi-Lang's passing after all the shit he put Shen Yuan through. He'd see Shen Jiu's hatred and just go, "Yikes! I better steer clear! But also, I'm kind of curious as to what his deal is... you know, mending plot holes..."

Shen Yuan thought Bingmei wanted to rip his limbs off, but managed to look at his actions and realize Binghe just wanted to be loved. As oblivious as he is, he is the only person who will give people a second chance and try to help them. If there is anyone who could care about Shen Jiu and see past the cold appearance and into the hurt boy, it would be him.

TLDR: to answer your question, yes. I like Liushen and Jiuyuan very much.
