HEY!! Remember Nathalie Mcray? aka the woman who made the lipstick lesbian flag? Right you might think about how she got ousted from the communty because of her biphobic, racist and transphobic blog posts people unearthed after which she promptly just left the internet and deleted her blog. What you might NOT know is that she ripped off the lipstick lesbian flag from a drag queen.

As you might notice it seems like the left side is oddly similar. The drag queen who made the Cougar flag is named Férnos Faustós.

When researching i was left with questions so i reached out to Faustos over instagram dms. I asked him if the flag was based on the “bear brotherhood” flag, due to both having seven stripes,a similar placement of the light to dark colors and the lipstick mark being placed in the same spot as the bear paw. He told me “To answer your question the lipstick* lesbian flag was definitely a parody of the bear pride flag.” he continues “I think queer women have a wonderful sense of humor and I think they see the humor in the design.” He reiterated that the flag is “a celebration of the feminine and intended for all lovers of the feminine and of lipstick” after he says he never intended for it to become an actual flag but is delighted to see people modify it and make it their own. He also stated his frustration with how corporations help themselves to the hard work all these designers made while not crediting or compensating them for their hard work, despite many who as he puts it “gave us the visual language to express our beautiful identities.” On a medium post i will link at the end he talked about how the flag was also created to combat ageism and sexism in the community

So i hear you "shes already terrible we KNOW" but did you even know of how Férnos Fausto was a KEY part of queer history and had a few podcasts and was one of the first queer podcasts back when podcasting was a new medium? the current lesbian flag is a mix of the lipstick flag and a butchflag made by @butchspace mod Q on there to be specific. That never wouldve played out that way if not for his involvement, so all im trying to do here is have atleast one person read this and remember his name.

the seperation of lesbians and gay men is a travesty. "why are there so many historic gay bars and only like a handful of lesbian bars in the whole country" why are being gay and lesbian not the same thing in this context. you dont need to fuck everyone at the bar and it is a problem that needs to be addressed if these spaces arent mutually hospitable. and this applies to most gay/lesbian spaces imo

So the modern lesbian flag was made by combining the lipstick lesbian flag and the butch lesbian flag, yeah?

I've always felt SO SOUR that the top half of the lipstick lesbian flag was chosen, because if you do the bottom instead (and darken the light pink a bit to make it more even):
