March 30: Mist Pt. 3

Mist: The stunning conclusion. I might mess around with the ending some more, and probably make some other edits etc. before I combined all three parts and post to AO3, but basically, this is it. Is this a conceit that needed 3k words to tell? Probably not, but here we are.

The fog becomes thicker, impenetrable. There is no more talk of scouting missions, nor of venturing beyond the safety of the camp wall.

Even navigating between the tents, or back and forth from the Dropship, becomes nearly impossible, when every step is shrouded by heavy, thick, slow-shifting whirls of white and gray. Only the vaguest hints of familiar landmarks loom out of the mist, and only sometimes, and in the new quiet that has overtaken the camp, it is now possible to stand at the center of it, very still, and forget for a moment that any last remnants of civilization, or any slow-struggling outgrowths of new life, could yet exist.

Some delinquents have taken to lighting their way with torches, even at noon. At a middle-distance, these grotesque smudges of orange light resemble demonic fire or the outtakes of dragon's breath. Apparitions from bedtime stories and ancient fairy tales.

The fog seeps in around the soft edges of the tents and makes everything damp, brings on a cloying feeling in the lungs. Small groups set up camp in the Dropship, huddle in their sleeping bags and blankets on the top floor, try to wait out the siege.

Octavia feels, as they do, the unease awash all along her skin, the sticky taste of it on her mouth, but she does not abandon home. She will not shut herself up in yet a smaller space. Sometimes, she stands in the stillness, listening for sounds to ground her in the dirt again, feels only the breathless thick, soft mist, and she wonders if this is what it is like at sea. She was, for a time, obsessed with the sea—this was right after Bellamy told her that they too lived on a ship—but even now she's never seen water any wider or deeper than a lake that she can stand in. Imagining an ocean vast beyond limits is like trying to truly fathom the end point of the stars. But she imagines great fog must roll in off such waters, and that the solitude in the middle of the ocean, past the last sight of land, must give a person a similar sense of vertigo as this.

The sense of being unmoored, drifting without anchor. Reaching out blind, trying to discern the shapes of things.

She wonders if this world is perhaps but a dream.

Only Lincoln does not complain about the weather, or express unease, or ask when it will end. He says little at all. Octavia follows his habits, tries to discern habits, but sees only that he is adrift, too. Searching without seeing. Some days he eats not at all, and others he is ravenous, and she gives him her rations and faces hardly any argument in return. He stays up late, tossing and turning and restless, throwing his weight against the cot with creaks and whines; the next day he sleeps, deeper than the dead sleep. Wakes from dreams clutching at his chest, as if his heart were pounding. Holds his hands up to the campfire at night, so close his palms should burn, watches them with flickers of firelight reflecting in his eyes. His mouth parted and awed. Stalks the perimeter, impossibly quiet, nearly invisible amid thick clouds of fog. Flickers of an outline of his solid, familiar body appear for a moment and then disappear again, as insubstantial now as puffs of smoke.

One day, he sits hunched over on the cot in their tent and flips through the pages of his sketchbook, eyes narrowed with fascination, as if he were viewing his own work for the first time. He runs his fingers over the lines of graphite, across the rough-cut paper-edges, traces the curves and angles of the Dropship, reproduced, or the image of Octavia's face.

She suggests, after a while, that he might want to sketch something again, but he throws the suggestion roughly away.

"What's gotten into you?" she snaps. But he looks up at her and through her and says nothing.

She exhales a sharp breath, feeling her nostrils flare. She could ask him just who he is, and what he did with her Lincoln, the man that she knows—she could ask him what happened to him out there, which is what she really means—but there's no point in wasting breath on such things. He'd never say. He never does.

Instead, she breaks his stare, and instead climbs up and slots herself behind him, in the narrow space between his back and the wall of the tent. There is no morning or noon or evening now, only cycles of darkness and gray, and now it is gray, and they are sitting without light in the persistent dampness and the shadow. She rests her hands gently on his shoulders first.

"Why don't you tell me a story?" And, when he does not push her away, "Like you used to. Stories about your clan or about the woods or about growing up—"

"Stories."

He says the word like a curse, and she pauses in her movements, her hands working to unknot the kinks along his shoulders, her fingers just about to gently graze against his neck. She cranes her own neck forward to try to look at him. He throws the sketchbook across the tent so that it hits the opposite wall and then falls to the ground, and she almost jerks herself forward to try to save it—but if damage was done, it's been done. She doesn't want to take her hands from him.

"You don't," he tries again, through gritted teeth, "understand—"

"Because you won't explain it to me!"

An ugly instinct tells her to push him away, but instead, she wraps her arms around his neck and clings to him, her chin digging into his shoulder, tries to wrap her whole self around him like this could secure him, not just to her, but to himself, to the earth, to life—give him tether and make him feel real. She's breathing hard as if from exertion. Harsh outtakes of breath hit against the shell of Lincoln's ear.

Slowly, he raises his hands and grabs at her arms, clinging to her, too.

She sinks into him, eyelids fluttering closed, and she does not so much kiss the side of his face as press her open mouth against his skin, cold and clammy skin to skin, and now that she is here, she takes to pressing kisses next to his ear, against his cheek, down along his jaw. She slides around him, and he pulls at her, until she settles on his lap. His arms circle around her tightly. They are scrambling for each other. She kisses him breathlessly. Something is rising, rising, and she is sinking beneath it. When she pulls back to look at his face, she sees a near-familiar spark across it, as if he has found something still-familiar to him too.

Slowly, still locking eyes with him, she pushes off his jacket, and then, despite the shiver in the air, she grabs the hem of his shirt and pulls it off him, too. Still he only looks at her. She passes her palms down his chest.

Stops, and frowns, at an unfamiliar rise, like a small ridge, across the skin.

When she glances down, she sees that her fingers have found an ugly, flared red gash just over his heart, like an unhealed scar, or a wound that has only barely stopped its bleeding. She reels back. "What—did—did you tell Clarke—"

His gaze still hasn't left her face, his eyes wide and unblinking. But in his answer, she feels a rush as if of held-breath released, of relief. "Why would I?" he asks. "There's nothing she can do.”

Her own lungs hitch. She pulls her hand away, only half an inch, and then on the exhales, presses her palm flat against the blazing red gash again. She feels nothing underneath it. No heartbeat, and only a mechanical, rote working of lungs.

Nothing she can do.

Nothing—because it's already over. It's done. Something has been taken, and, from out there beyond the fog, on the other side of the river, beneath the Mountain, something has been returned. Like Lincoln himself, she is powerless to understand what.

Clarke bought a little cabin in the woods so that she could get out of the city. She just can’t do all of the people and all of the constant going anymore. Everything is going well until she gets bit by a wolf and then on the next full moon, she turns into a wolf herself. She’s scared and confused—not to mention lost—when the black wolf finds her. She immediately knows that he’s like her—a werewolf. He helps her through the night until they fall asleep under the stars. When they wake up naked, she finds out that the black wolf is a very hot guy named Bellamy who has a proposition for her. Bellamy was born a werewolf, a gene passed down by his mom. He was raised as part of the pack and Marcus, the pack leader, was training him to take over when the time came. But then another pack came and killed most of their pack. Those that they didn’t kill they took prisoner—his sister being one of them. The only reason he’s alive is that Marcus had sent him out of state to meet with another pack. He knows that the wolf that bit Clarke is in this pack because he’d been watching her when she got bit—he just hadn’t been fast enough to stop it. Bellamy tells Clarke that he can help her get revenge on the man that turned her into a werewolf as long as she helps him get his people back. She doesn’t hesitate, her thirst for revenge and blood running too deep.

It's either both or neither of them. Reluctantly they get to know one another and realize that maybe the other isn't so bad.

Clarke vs. The Email

Clarke trudged through the front door of her apartment, kicked off her Chucks near the mat, tossed her messenger bag onto the chair, and gave a brief nod to the cuddled-up pile of Octavia and Lincoln on the couch. The pair gave a quick wave before returning to their recently engaged cuddle bliss. Clarke didn’t even need the greeting; she was just happy they weren’t naked this time.

She padded through the living room into the kitchen, rummaged through the freezer for a hot pocket, and tossed it into the microwave. While she waited, she dug the pocket protector and ID badge out of the left breast pocket of her short-sleeved white button up, and pondered how her life had led her to this point.  Working at a glorified electronics Walmart. Living with an engaged couple. No romantic prospects. And worst of all, wearing a pocket protector unironically.

Octavia and Clarke had been friends since they could walk. They lived next door to each other and an spent equal amount of time in the other’s house as they did in their own. They spent every holiday, birthday, and available moment with each other as kids. After Clarke’s mom abandoned her and her father when she was 9, Octavia’s mom pretty much fully adopted her into the family. Clarke’s mother’s absence uprooted the entire Griffin household. Clarke’s father was always an oddball, but after her mother left, he became even more of a crazy recluse. Constantly tinkering with machines. Wild government conspiracy theories. He would often get so absorbed in his work that he would forget to eat or keep normal hours. While Clarke always knew she was loved and cared for, she was forced to take care of herself for much of her childhood.

By the time Clarke left for college, she had pretty much raised herself. Octavia and her mother helped her move into her dorm, as Clarke’s own father refused to leave the house, convinced the CIA would take him out if he did. When Clarke returned for Thanksgiving break during her freshman year, she arrived to an empty house with nothing but a single gift-wrapped box on the kitchen table with the note “Clarke, Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again”. Inside the box was a necklace with a small infinity symbol charm. That was the last thing Clarke heard from her father.

Clarke thrived in college. She decided to earn her degree in computer science. Much like her father, she had a knack for the work. Coding came easy. Building and debugging were fun challenges. Things were going great for college Clarke. Her grades were good, she had a steady boyfriend, and a solid group of friends. Then one day senior year, she’s called into the Dean’s office and being told she’s been expelled for academic dishonesty. Apparently they found some tests and answer keys in her room and accused her of cheating. One semester shy of a degree, and she’s kicked out with no opportunity for rebuttal. Her roommate and best friend at the time, Costia Daniels, just watched her pack her stuff and leave with no further comment. Clarke is still convinced it was Costia who framed her for the tests. Finn dating Costia not long after the scandal certainly didn’t assuage that bubbling feeling.

So now, two years later, Clarke works at a Buy-More in the Nerd Herd department. She fixes broken computers, helps old people log in to their fully functioning computers despite their yelling that it doesn’t work, and on occasion, gets to go to homes for installations. The work is well beneath her, but Clarke hasn’t been able to bring herself to try for anything since getting kicked out of school.

–BEEP—–BEEP—–BEEP—–BEEP—

Clarke is pulled out of her reminiscent daydream by the alarm of her hot pockets.

Somewhat disheartened by the tragic turn of her life, Clarke grabs her hot pocket and heads to her room, taking a bite of the pocket, immediately burning every surface in her mouth, and letting the mouthful fall back onto her plate.

Once alone in her room, Clarke takes another bite of her hot pocket. This time it’s ice cold and she wonders how science hasn’t figured out how to prevent this yet. As she goes for her third bite of hot pocket roulette (molten lava or iceberg?), she hears a rhythmic thumping and the beginnings of Octavia moaning. She grabs her noise cancelling headphones and shoves them over her ears. She owes Octavia for her lifetime of supportive friendship, but no amount of childhood loyalty can make Clarke willingly subject herself to listening to Linctavia’s acrobatic sex on the opposite side of the apartment.

Clarke dusts the crumbs off her hands on her pants and is about to open League of Legends on her computer when she hears the *ding* that indicates a new e-mail.

She opens her e-mail to find one unread message from none other than Costia Daniels. For a moment, Clarke is convinced she summoned her by thinking over the abrupt ending of her college career only minutes ago. They haven’t spoken since Costia stood there and did nothing while Clarke’s life fell apart around her.

 “What the fuck could she possibly want?” Clarke thinks. As far as she knew, Costia stole Clarke’s boyfriend and her dream job developing video games. Clarke sees the subject line: BETA TEST: OVERWATCH. Late nights in the Stanford’s dorm rooms flash through her mind. She and Costia used to waste hours playing video games in their room. It’s half the reason they became friends in the first place.

Maybe this is supposed to be an olive branch? Sorry I ruined your life, but at least you can get early access to new video games? Whatever the reasoning, Clarke decides that a trip down video game memory lane will, at the very least, keep her occupied until the sex marathon is over, and she can safely sleep without the need for earplugs.

She double clicks the file and waits for it to launch.

A popup with “Security Required” takes up her screen. Given it’s an early release of a game, it seems reasonable.

The sentence “What was our old dorm room number?” slowly types out before her eyes.

Clarke types “307” into the box.

“PASSWORD ACCEPTED. Begin download.” Flashes across the screen

What follows is not at all what should happen when a game is downloaded. The screen begins to flash with images. Ten images per second. Way too fast for Clarke to get a good look at any of them. She sees photos, documents, names, nonsense words that might be mission titles, military movements and bases, weapons designs. Flash. Flash. Flash. The images change so rapidly it’s almost like staring at a strobe light. Clarke briefly thinks that maybe this is a new CIA-themed game.

The stream of images continues, and Clarke can’t seem to blink. Files upon files flash on the screen. Heat seeking bullet. White nationalist terrorists. Cuban missile crisis. Trump’s tax information. Russian intelligence operatives. More documents. Blueprints. Prototypes. Even though she doesn’t have time to absorb any of the information she’s seeing—it’s all changing too quickly to read or process– Clarke knows this isn’t something she should be seeing. Her eyes begin to water.  After 90 full seconds, the constant stream of images stops, and her screen goes blank.

DOWNLOAD COMPLETE scrolls past her monitor, followed by a quick zapping noise from inside the hard drive. A thin wisp of white smoke begins to rise out of her computer.

Clarke continues to stare blankly at the screen for a second or two, then promptly falls to the ground with a thud.

an interview with @changingthefairy-tale​

What are you working on right now? Right now, I’m focused on BellarkeFic-for-BLM (I just got an amazing canon prompt I’m really excited to finish). I’ve also been participating in this round of the Chopped Challenge, which has been fun and challenging. In between prompts, I’ve got two WIPs that I’m slowly cranking through. Shoutout to every single reader who’s been incredibly patient while I’ve been so slow on those updates — though, reminder that you can donate to a BLM organization (even a $3 donation works) and request an update to get those higher on my prio list while I’m focused on that initiative.

What’s something you’d like to write one day? My absolute dream job and the ultimate goal is to become a showrunner for a prime time TV show. I love TV shows — I love the way actors and directors and crew take a script and breath life into it, I love how you take a general idea for a story and mold it into something amazing as you go, I love how a series gives a story more time to be fleshed out and explored, I love the concept of a writers room and collaborating on a story. It’s a different ballgame from fic writing (which I do for fun) and travel writing (which I do for a living), but I’m determined to make it happen. JRoth, I’m coming for your job, babe. 😉

What is the fanwork you’re most proud of? I’m still really new to fic writing, especially compared to some of the powerhouse writers in this fandom. And I’m sure one of my WIPs (when finished) will probably supersede this. BUT, my one-shot about Madi calling Bellamy on The Ring (She called you for 2,199 days) is something I’m really proud of. I’m a long-winded writer, so one-shots have never come naturally to me. This one just…clicked. It’s got some good lines in there that I’m proud of, and based on the feedback I’ve gotten, it really made readers feel something and connect to the story. It’s not my longest story or my most thought-out. But it shows my growth as a writer these past few months, and I’m proud of that.

Why did you first start writing fic? I started writing fic as a creative outlet for my writing. My day job is writing about travel and credit cards. And while I enjoy that, it’s just not as creative. My dream is to write for a TV show though, and I was craving a way to flex my creative writing muscles in a low-stress way. I started watching The 100 when it first came out, but I didn’t really get into the fandom until I came back to the show during the S5/6 hiatus. That’s when I started reading fics and reblogging stuff about the show on Tumblr. During the S6/7 hiatus, I had this idea for a Greys Anatomy AU, and my sister (who is also a major fan of the show) was like, “You literally write things for a living. If you want to write a Grey’s AU for t100, there is absolutely nothing stopping you.” I published my first chapter on that The Choices We Make in Dec. 2019, and the rest is history.

What frustrates you most about fic writing? For me, I think that the most frustrating thing isn’t even about fic writing itself; it’s the fact that it’s a side-hobby and not something I can dedicate my full attention to. When you write all day for your day job, then do some for your freelance gig, and then turn around and try to write for a few hours every night for fic… that gets hard sometimes — especially since starting quarantine where I’m not traveling, going out with friends, getting a break from it, etc. Fic writing is a creative release for me, and I absolutely love crafting and writing these stories that involve some of my favorite fictional characters. And I love interacting with other writers and fic readers, I love talking about ideas and exchanging headcanons and fangirling over my favorite writers’ works. But (because there’s always a but), sometimes I just don’t have the mental energy or capacity to write at the end of the day when I’ve turned in 3 deadlines for work. I’ve got all these ideas floating in my head, but only so much time and mental energy I can dedicate to it.

What are your top five songs right now? Oh boy. So I live alone, which means I’ve got either music or Netflix on in the background 24/7 because ya girl doesn’t like silence. I have a different playlist for different moods. I’ll share my fav song from each of those playlists. What are your inspirations (books, songs, other fic, really good cake)? All of the above, except I like pie more than cake. lol But really, I kind of use everything around me for inspiration. “The Choices We Make” is inspired by my love of Grey’s Anatomy. “Intertwining your soul (with somebody else)” is inspired my the first draft of my YA novel (though the setting was adapted to a grounder canonverse AU). “The Day He Shut That Rocket Door” and “She called you for 2,199 days” were inspired by @historyofbellarke‘s headcanons that were brought up in S7 speccing conversations (shoutout to her for enabling my angsty ass). My most recent WIP “There are some things written in the stars” that I started as part of Chopped (but will continue because I’m obsessed with the idea) is inspired by my love of Timeless. And I have an entire Notion database filled with fic ideas — some one-shots and some multi-chapter fics — that are inspired by quotes, songs, conversations with friends, books I love, shows I adore, random HCs that pop into my head while I watch, my own life experiences, etc. I take inspiration in any form it decides to come in. 💕

What first attracted you to Bellarke? What attracts you now? I’m a ho for enemies to lovers — the idea that you can put your worst foot forward and show someone all the ugly parts of you… and that they’ll see that and somehow look past it to see the good stuff too, falling in love with your whole self instead of just the pretty parts. Yeah, it’s my favorite romance trope. And that tension is what originally drew me to Bellarke. Now, it’s a combination of things. I love each of these characters in their own right. I relate to Clarke in a lot of ways, and I aspire to be her level of badass. I straight adore Bellamy Blake (flaws, stupid decisions, and all) and would marry him in a heartbeat if he were real — I’m not even kidding. lol But I also love their dynamic. They are partners, best friends, perfect compliments to the other. They see each other in a way no one else does, and they are the one person the other constantly risks everything for. They are both so driven by their responsibilities to their people, yet that all typically goes out the window the moment the other is at risk. I don’t believe in soulmates in real life, but it’s nice to get to believe in this fictional world that they are just made for each other.

BESIDES Bellarke, what character or pairing do you like best on t100? My favorite character besides Bellarke is John Murphy. His arc has been BY FAR the best on this show, going from that little shit in S1 to this “asshole we love” in the middle to now a true hero in this final season. And through it all Richard Harmon has been amazing to watch on screen.

My favorite pairing besides Bellarke is Linctavia. Yes, that ship is problematic in a lot of ways, but I still loved their dynamic. Lincoln helped Octavia navigate this new world that she was so desperate to be apart of while being mindful of her safety. And I thought they were a good match — he helped tame her fire without putting it out, and she helped challenge the way he was raised. Given time, I think they could have become one of the most stable and loving relationships on t100. Of course, that couldn’t happen because Jason needed Bell’s actions in 3A to have heartbreaking consequences, O to spiral for her own character journey, and whatever mess happened off-screen between Ricky and him. But they still remain my favorite ship aside from Bellarke.

Why did you decide to start writing for bellarkefic-for-blm? The second I saw that Sam was planning on doing this, I reached out to ask how I could help/write/be involved. The BLM movement is so important, and this is an amazing way for me to contribute while pursuing my passions. It’s a way for the fandom to get involved and do something good. And ultimately, this helps organizations that need donations. Shameless plug for everyone to please go check out the Bellarke Fic for BLM page — check out the many amazing writers and artists we have participating, and send in prompts. Most of us are allowing WIP chapter update requests, and there are a number of us (myself included) who are matching donations made! No donation is too small, and you’ll be supporting a movement that is a necessity in the U.S. and beyond.

What’s your writing process like? My mind is literal chaos, so I plan and outline like hell in order to make sense of everything. When I get an idea for a fic, it goes on my Notion database. Within Notion, I write down my inspiration for the idea, and a pretty in-depth summary of where I want the fic to go — dialogue ideas, any feelings/emotions I want to invoke, literally just a brain dump of all my ideas. From there, I’ll arrange that brain dumb into an outline. If it’s a one-shot, I’ll generally write the whole thing in the Notion doc. But multi-chapter fics will get a checklist within Notion for me to keep track of progress, and I’ll actually write the fic in Google Docs. I generally start writing from the beginning of a story, but if I get stuck or have an idea for a later scene, the fact that I’ve outlined heavily allows me to jump around as ideas come to me. I’ll read each one-shot or chapter after I��m done to make sure it flows before publishing. I post chapters for my WIPs as I write them, which I should really stop doing. lol For my readers’ sakes, I should work ahead and publish on a schedule rather than making them wait for my slow ass to finish chapter to chapter. But right now, that’s my process!

What are some things you’d like to recommend? Oh goodness, too many fics to possibly name. Instead, I’ll link to my AO3 rec bookmarks (which isn’t all-inclusive of the amazing fics I’ve read in this fandom, but it’s got some good favs in there) and shout out all of our awesome Bellarke Fic for BLM writers. Y’all should check out their work (and send in prompts)!

the 100 Songs for fan fictions Part 1

so when I listen to certain songs (almost all of the songs on my phone) I get ideas for mostly Bellarke prompts (sometimes for other ships as well), so I thought I would write them down and post them. Don’t know if I should tag writers (maybe later). Here’s the first part. 

1. “A-N-N-A” by Max Herre Bellarke, AU: Bellamy sees a girl at the bus stop everyday and finally asks her out. Clarke kisses him in the rain and disappears.

1. Maybe people want all of the kiss/confess of the media the producer’s done to shut down romantic Bellarke. I’m not in fandom and agree with your Bellarke analysis, but before I learned to stay away from his interviews, I did hear him say things like, “We like to call Clarke and Bellamy platonic soulmates,” and it’s stayed with me.

2. It makes me wonder if, despite what I SEE on screen, he’s trying to give them romantic tropes, but as besties, to be “different.” To show besties can have soulmate love without being IN love. Which if he was trying to do that, for the record, there’s a way to convey that, and Bellarke is not it. Admittedly stupidly, listening to that crap has made me not always trust what I see and analyze on screen. I love the idea of them being like P&P, but what if I’m wrong?

3/4. I’m so invested in this beautiful story within a story that’s been building for six seasons, and (not as much anymore) I do have moments where I have GoT flashbacks, and I’m like, “But what if the story I see and love never bears fruit?” It’s like I see the romance, but I fear a open end, if that makes sense? Like no resolution, maybe? It’s hard to explain. But, yes, I do let fear get me every now and then. And then tell myself to stfu because I love this show regardless. 🙂

This is why I stick to the text and only consider extra-textual comments to be interpretations... something to take into consideration, but if it doesn’t fit with canon, to discard.

Whether fans, reviewers or cast and crew are making commentary. I recognize that I cannot know their entire context or agenda for making their commentary, so if it doesn’t work? It’s set aside. JR has said a LOT of things, from “I see what you see” and “the road is long,” and “we’ll give romantic bellarke to you eventually,” and “the 100 is about Clarke and her relationship with Bellamy.”  to they are non romantic partners and soulmates.” I’m not actually sure he’s EVER said they were platonic. Non romantic and platonic are two different things. But fandom keeps saying he said platonic. I wouldn’t trust fandom on that. JR has however refused to spoil the Bellarke story, which means he couldn’t possibly tell anyone that it wasn’t happening.  Because that would be a spoiler. He’s done everything he can to make us wonder “will they or won’t they.” And most of it comes from social media, not canon.

I mean, do I trust JR?  Not 100%. I won’t ever trust a tv show or movie franchise 100% because hollywood is a bitch. And it disappoints sometimes. And with tv shows, it almost never keeps the same excellence until the end. It almost always loses something you know? And that’s assuming that your OTP stays the center of the story. I mean. listen. There are a lot of shippers who are SUPER pissed at this show for NOT making their ship the center of the show. CL, Linctavia, Kabby is the most recent. At this point, we have Bellarke, Memori and Marper who have kind of won shipping. B/E is up in the air. But if I were them, I wouldn’t be happy with it since all Bellamy’s attention seems to be goign to clarke... which I’m NOT unhappy about. 

How do you know when your interpretation of the show is the story they are telling???? Honestly, you just have to keep checking back with canon. And asking yourself honestly, “Does my interpretation still work? Is it following through? Is this the story they are telling?” and then when it fits, you keep going and when it doesn’t you let go and find a new focus. And then you also have to LET GO and give the creators some freedom to tell their own story, because a lot of bellarke fans are disappointed with the way it turned out in s5 and 6 despite it being SO bellarke focused? I’m not. I like it. I LOVE it. It’s gotten even better, and I like what they’re doing SO MUCH MORE than I would if it were just a simple “get together” kind of story. 

TBH, I don’t think that the audience really got GOT wrong. I think D&D pulled that dumbass PLOT TWIST! trick and threw unearned story at us, because they got so full of themselves and let their success get to their heads and forgot that story was important. Also, I think they didn’t really UNDERSTAND the deeper level of GRRM’s story about what it was all ABOUT. So to them, it didn’t have the same meaning it did to much of the audience. I mean, too many people from far flung interpretations were appalled at how it turned out.

I don’t think JR will pull a D&D. The 100 is HIS story and he has intentions with it and has since the beginning. I think they’re working on an ending more like Mad Men, if you watched it. Not the particular MEANING of that story ending, but the craftedness of it. That it was all this kind of circular tale about the characters and the time and place, and it rounded everything out in a satisfying, if not particularly explicit ending. Open ended doesn’t mean unsatisfying. 

With the addition of c/b/e and very romantic overtones, Bellarke has already entered the romantic zone, not platonic, I don’t think JR will leave BELLARKE open ended, as in, we’ll know that they are romantic and so will they, but I don’t know how life will be for them?

But what happens if, after all of this, we ARE wrong about the ending?

Not a damn thing. 

If we’re wrong? We’re wrong. It doesn’t mean anything. There’s nothing wrong with being wrong. Certainly not about an interpretation of a tv show. It doesn’t ACTUALLY affect our lives or anyone’s lives. If we want to keep shipping Bellarke, we can do that. Fanfiction is great. Or rewatching. Or maybe we just find another show that hits our buttons better. Maybe we’re more careful in the future with how invested we get in tv shows.

It’s just a tv show. They aren’t real people. They’re fictional. Our attachment to them is what we make of it. If we are too torn apart by the story, then I honestly suggest we find something else to give our hearts to.

Listen.  I love fiction. Movies, Books, tv shows. It has made my life richer in many ways. But if fiction hurts or damages you in any way, rather than making your life richer, then it’s time for a different way of engaging with it. It’s supposed to be SAFE. A safe way to engage with the world and emotions and thoughts. 

i think i’m starting to babble now. i guess essentially the key is to stick to the text, keep checking on your interpretations to make sure they fit and adjust accordingly, don’t be so worried about being right, ignore the nonsense, don’t get too attached because no matter what Hollywood is a bitch, and maybe just enjoy the ride and relax into s7.

1. What are your primary topics?

Bellarke is my primary topic, probably with Clarke at the top and Bellamy very closely following. I’m an avid Clarke stan and will not tolerate any Clarke/Bellarke/Bellamy hate, so if it, it’s kind of an immediate unfollow. My secondary focus is the delinquents, though there are so few left, so broaden that to Skaikru and Skaikru affiliates like Jordan, Madi, etc.

I multiship pretty heavily when it comes to secondary ships like Murven, Zaven, Memori, Niytavia, Linctavia, Marper, Jonty, you get the gist, so you can expect to find content for all of that on my blog. I’m not a multishipper when it comes to Bellarke, though I do reblog a bit of Princess Mech/Clurphy/Murphamy/Millamy when they come along on my dash.

I don’t make/reblog many anti posts, but when I do (and they’re usually crack posts, lbr) all anti posts are tagged with “Anti X,” in case you want to sort it out.

3. What do you love about the 100?

From the first season, as cheesy as it could get at points, I loved joviality of it combined with real and interesting plot. I’ve had my ups and downs with the show over the years, especially since it’s lost a lot of it’s fun side recently (though I think that could be making a comeback this season!), but what kept me around is Clarke. 

I don’t think I’ve ever related so heavily to a protagonist as I do to her, and despite being a fictional character, she’s so important to me.

4. What do you hate/what frustrates you about the 100?

I mean, this is kind of a fandom influencing show thing, but the emphasis on how scared they are to give Clarke any love interest since Lexa, especially a male one. I’d really like her to have that male love interest again just to remind the biphobes that Clarke Griffin IS a bisexual woman.

The treatment of Clarke recently, of course, has been extremely frustrating. I think it’s being hypocritcally juxtaposed with S/pacekru, where they have the same motivation (family), but Clarke is the one in the “wrong.” However, with this season’s plot line, I’m hoping that it’s addressed that that’s not really the case because there are no good guys, only different motivations.

6. What else should people know?

I’m a pretty positive person, so that’s most of what you’re going to get on this blog. Fandom has a way of tearing apart the things you love, and I’m trying not to let that get to me this season like it did in Season 5.

That being said, I’m keeping who I follow very tailored to my interests for that reason. So, like super huge S/pacekru stans who shit on Clarke, or even fans of Clarke and Spacekru who see both sides, but put a lot of B/E on my dash, I probably won’t follow. This is purely for my own mental health and tailoring my dash to me and I highly recommend it for anyone else having trouble or getting frustrated by fandom.

All-Time Favourite Ships!

From books, movies, Broadway, and TV shows!

(list not in any particular order and may contain spoilers).

1. Bellarke: Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffen from The 100 (TV)

Okay, I know I said that the list is in no particular order, but this ship is my all time OTP since I started watching The 100. And I can’t sleep at night knowing that they are not officially canon yet, even if it was pretty clear in Praimfiya that it will be endgame! So exited for their reunion in Season 5. I spend hours on end reading Bellarke fan fiction all day, every day. And Bellamy is my baby and I love his so much. And I can’t wait to see how he is after the six-year time jump on the show. Sometimes, I think that I watch the show just for these two.

2. Haleb: Hanna Marin and Caleb Rivers from Pretty Little Liars (TV)

Again, like I said that this list is in no particular order, this ship would defiantly be in my top 5. Anyway, I still have to properly sit down and watch Season 7B of Pretty Little Liars so don’t spoil anything for me. Haleb in my opinion, is the best ship on this show, but I think towards the early seasons I used to ship Ezria more but when Caleb showed up with his long hair, I died. And therefore, they became my favourite ship. I remember, I put watching the show on break after Caleb left to do his own show is either season 3 or 4, I don’t remember exactly. But yeah, these two are pretty cute together and I hope it stays that way.

3. Stydia: Stiles Stilinksi and Lydia Martin from Teen Wolf (TV)

Okay, again, probably in my top 7. So, the thing with Stydia is that they dragged it out for so long that the anticipation killed me. But I love them still so much. And Dylan O’Brian is just on a different level of awesomeness (and cuteness). And Lydia, even though she used to annoy me at first, and Teen Wolf is probably not my favourite TV show, but it’s still good, and Lydia’s character started to grow on me and I need to catch up on Season 6, (don’t judge me guys, the past few moths for me have been really busy) and I just recently started to watch this show, like maybe two years ago, but still, love love love.

4. Linctavia: Lincoln and Octavia Blake from The 100 (TV)

Okay, so another The 100 ship, but oh my lord I scream every time someone mentions them! They are so adorably cute and the flyest of power couples who don’t give a damn about what people think. And every time I think of Lincoln, I just might well cry because he didn’t deserve what he got. Fucking Pike. I’m glad Octavia killed him. And the song to which Lincoln dies to, and the one where Octavia’s scream and cries are kinda muffled, it’s called Cloud by Elias, and it’s in my playlist and then I have a mini breakdown when it comes on and think of Lincoln falling on his knees in the tiny puddle and Octavia and I just cry a little more on the inside. Anyway, probably the best couple to ever exist on the show and maybe even ever in this whole damn world. They were so fucking badass together, I loved every minute of it.

5. Sciles: Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf (TV)

Okay, so this is like my favourite BROTP of all eternity. I just think that their relationship is so cute and how much they care about each other, and the hug in season 3 is my everything, ahhh, I just love them so much it hurts. And throughout the show we can see their friendship grow even though they have been friends since they were little. Damn, I wish I had a friendship like that. 

6. Chair: Charles “Chuck” Bass and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl (TV)

Ahhh, Blair and Chuck, Chuck and Blair! I don’t think anyone will ever know how happy I was when the endgame for their endgame actually happened. Honestly, I was rooting for them since Blair’s birthday episode in the first season, even when everyone was after Nate and Blair, but no, not gonna happen. I just thought that Nate was very innocent and nice for Blair. Blair needed someone like Chuck and I don’t think anyone ever loved anyone else as much as Chuck loves Blair. I love them, they are so perfect for each other, with their games. I wish I had a Chuck. Blair’s lucky. Haha.

7. Literati: Jess Mariano and Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls (TV)

I wanted them to be endgame so bad. I remember I stopped watching Gilmore Girls after Jess leaves to go to the West Coast, and I wanted to punch his so bad, but I didn’t want to destroy his pretty face like the Swan did (if you know what I’m talking about HMU). And I low-key hated Logan, I don’t know exactly why, but I just did, but I think I’m over it now. But still I wanted these two to be together forever, cause they are just so perfect for each other and so balanced I loved it while it happened. But they can’t be together, and I shall be forever sad. 

8. Percabeth: Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase from The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, and The Heroes of Olympus Series (Books)

Okay, so the kiss underwater made my 4th grade self go absolutely crazy with happiness. But I guess, my favourite moment from (both) of the series is probably at the start of Mark of Athena when they run towards each other and fall into each others arms and kiss when they reunite after eight long years, and everyone knows that they were endgame except when Percy had that thing with Rachel, but I was glad when that ended. Anyway, I just re-read the Heroes of Olympus series and I fell in love with all the characters again. 

9. Jasiper: Jason Grace and Piper McLean from The Heroes of Olympus Series (Books)

Ahh, absolutely love these two. Too cute! Okay, I don’t have much to say for them besides that they are completely badass together. I mean, I was really sad for Piper when she realised that her memories pre The Lost Hero were not real. But the whole “look at that comet from the rooftop when it’s just us” would have been too cute it it was real. 

10. Dramione: Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series (Books)

Okay, so I read a lot of fan fiction, and this is the one that I fully support no matter what the circumstances. I really really did wish that this could be possible but it’s not, it was never even canon! But yeah, I think that they would make an amazing couple together, and would be so cute, even if it is a very unlikely pair. But still, I do think that love sparks between them still. 

11. Drarry: Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter from the Harry Potter Series (Books)

Oh, my god the amount of fan fiction I read for this is incomparable. I just love this pairing so much I can’t handle myself sometimes. Anyway, maybe in another world this is true and the people are happier there. 

12. Aridante: Aristotle Mendoza and Dante Quintana from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Books)

Okay, I don’t know how this ship name makes sense but whatever. I love love love this book so much, and I think these two, in whatever kind of relationship, make so much sense together. If anyone has not read this yet, what are you doing with your life? Anyway, this book is amazing and Benjamin Alire Saenz is an amazing author.

13. Adlock: Irene Adler and Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock (TV)

Okay, it was hard to chose between Johnlock, Sherlolly, and Adlock. But then A Scandal In Belgravia will forever be one of my favourite episodes, and honestly, their relationship just excites me and that message tone in the last episode got me all excited and happy again. Anyway, I wish they were canon but I respect whatever Sherlock is and how he does not want a relationship.

14. Triles: Tristan Milligan and Miles Hollingsworth III from Degrassi: Next Class (TV)

Anyway, I was getting so mad when I could not find a gif that fit the aesthetic of this post, but then I finally did and that’s all that matters. Anyway, I’m so glad that this is cannon and hopefully endgame, but Miles little slip with Lola in Season 3 got me so mad! Like, how could he, his boyfriend was in a coma and he’s cheating on him! That’s totally unacceptable! But then I guess I came to terms with why he did what he did. And I’m glad that Tristan (kinda) forgave him. Yay.

15. Bughead: Betty Copper and Jughead Jones from Riverdale (TV)

Okay, so I haven't read enough fan fiction to say that this is my absolute favourite yet, and since this is a newer ship than most others mentioned on here, it’s kinda hard for me to feel for them what I feel for the others. But I still really like this pairing, it’s kinda unique, and a little different from the normal TV shows, so yeah.

16. Lams: John Laurens and Alexander Hamilton from Hamilton: An American Musical (Theatre)

This is my favourite theatre ship, but somewhere in my heart, I think Jefferson and Hamilton secretly love each other. No, but seriously, I think John and Alex are just the cutest friends, and the fact that their friendship existed so heavily in real life makes me so happy.

Okay, so that was the list but I have a few honourable mentions that did not make it on here and they are:

Commenting on Fan Fiction

A friend of mine received this comment today on AO3: “Clexa has turned into bizzaro upside down world. Why can't I have one story with the Character I love? R.I.P original recipe Lexa. No other fandom works as hard as this one does to erase a strong female warrior from existence. Turning the Commander of the twelve clans into a weak weepy damsel in distress is disgraceful. But the constant trend of making Clarke and the Delinquents into super badasses seems to be a huge factor.” This is going to be my reply: (sorry for the essay!) Let me first start by saying your comments are somewhat correct. Yes this fandom does like to portray Lexa in a different light to that of The 100 TV show although there are a huge amount of stories where she is not. On the other side of that there are a huge amount of stories where Clarke is the "weak weepy damsel in distress" and as far as The 100 goes Clarke isn't that either. The 100 writers have never written either of these fictional characters as such. They have been written as equals both with strengths and weaknesses but within different but overlapping circumstances. However this is a fan FICTION site. People have loved these characters so much that it has INSPIRED them to write all types of VARIATIONS of these 2 FICTIONAL people. They have let their imaginations run wild and turn these characters into a multitude of wonderful different versions of themselves. After a very quick look at the quantity of The 100 stories I estimate there to be well over 50,000 Clarke & Lexa works. That doesn't include the Bellarke, Ranya, Linctavia etc. etc. etc. fandoms in which both Clarke and Lexa are included. 

How boring would it be if we had 50,000 stories all of similar themes? All telling, in essence, the same story. The other thing you haven't considered is the effort, time, and love these talented people have put in to these stories for us. Yes that “us” includes you. I'm sure they all enjoy writing their fictions, and they can be a labour of love at times, but they don't write these things just for themselves. They write them for others to enjoy too. Do you think that that means they want to be criticised for an idea that they've put down on proverbial paper? Do you think that the few sentences you've written here aren't hurtful or insulting? You may not be blaming this author, or others directly, but you accuse none the less. What would this world be like if we all conformed to what one person thinks? To what THEY WANT? (Do any dictators spring to mind? Because they should!) Scary thought isn't it? Yes I understand that you are entitled to your opinion, as am I, but perhaps before you share that opinion you should consider how your words may effect the people reading them. I did a search and noticed that you haven’t written anything on AO3? Perhaps you should consider writing a Clexa story and see what response you get? Then perhaps YOU can "have one story with the character you love" in it.

I for one am grateful for these people who spend precious time out of their days writing so that WE may get to laugh, cry, get horny, scream, get anxious along with all the other emotions, feelings and thoughts that these stories may induce in us. All for free I might add! I may not always like the way characters are portrayed or how the story is written but I still appreciate these people and the effort they make for anyone who wishes to read what they have written. Perhaps you should pause before commenting next time and think about what it is you want to say and ask yourself is it appropriate?

P.S. Maybe it might be worth you doing a better search on AO3 for the fics you are obviously going to enjoy. Their search tools are pretty good and I’m sure you can find enough to occupy yourself with, without feeling the need to make unnecessary comments on those stories that you won’t. Oh and just a thought... perhaps other fandoms haven’t diversified their characters so much because they aren’t as passionate about, or maybe obsessed with or as infatuated as we Clexa/Bellarke/The 100 fans are? Just something to ponder on... P.P.S. Yes I know I have replied anonymously but I have some input in to some stories (which I do not write, only help out with) and my name is linked to them and I will not have anyone upset, angered or discouraged because people choose to comment without thinking about the consequences of their actions.

You Came Back

Ficlet.Takes place at the end of Season 2, after Lincoln and Octavia walk through the gates.

Most of Trikru think the Sky People are weak; even those who came to respect them during their brief, doomed alliance value them for their intelligence and their curiosity, not any kind of power.

But they have a kind of strength his people can’t see because they never learned to look for it. On the ground, life is transient. You’re born, you live, and then you die. You love hard; you fight harder. You accept death the same way you accept the rub of fabric against your shoulders as you pass through a crowd, the current of a moving throng; ever-present, familiar and close; thick with the promise it’ll swallow you whole if you ever stop walking. You don’t fear it. Death smells fear - comes for the frightened first. You just walk for as long as you can.

The Sky People clung to life aboard a dying space ship, stuck in the dark and the cold without any possibility of escape. Meant to be a transitional generation; insignificant but for the link they provided in the ongoing march of humanity towards the ground. They hate death with a fury Lincoln’s people were never taught. They utter no greetings, no acceptance; they clench life in their fists like a stolen precious thing, and when their fingers are pried open they say only ‘May we meet again’. Hoping against hope that death will give them back to the world one day, or the world will meet them after; either option robbing death of its power to end and separate. Trikru says ‘Yu gonplei ste odon’; the Sky People plead for the fight to continue. Call it stubborn or childish – many of his people do. But it is incredibly hopeful, and in a world as harsh as this, to be hopeful is to be incredibly brave.

It is the first thing he tries to make himself, now that he is among them. Hopeful.

For a while, Camp Jaha looks like an infirmary, spilling out of structures and onto the dirt. It bears all the markings of one; the quiet, tentative movements of the healthy, who are too afraid to move lest they hurt their friends more, stepping gingerly around stretchers. The blood and the bandages; the smell of sweat and vomit. Abby’s panicked yelling when she hears that Clarke is gone holds the same kind of grief he’s heard a thousand times after battle. Soon it’s joined by more; two of the kids from the mountain are too badly injured to survive. When the first one dies, her parents scream. The second has no parents, but one of his friends sits and holds his hand until someone else covers him with a sheet and takes him away to be buried. Then there are the kids who have held out hope for all this time, only to find out their families never made it to the ground.

Lincoln wants to help, but there are enough people tending the wounded already, and Octavia is fine. He doesn’t know what to do. For the first time in his life, he’s ashamed to be Trikru, who left these people to die. He watches them in pain and feels himself shrink.

Octavia’s hand squeezes his and he looks down to see her gazing at him with so much affection he can feel it in his bones.

‘You came back,’ she says, as though she read his mind. ‘You have nothing to be ashamed of.’

He gives her a shaky smile and squeezes her hand back, trying to believe her.

Clarke bought a little cabin in the woods so that she could get out of the city. She just can’t do all of the people and all of the constant going anymore. Everything is going well until she gets bit by a wolf and then on the next full moon, she turns into a wolf herself. She’s scared and confused—not to mention lost—when the black wolf finds her. She immediately knows that he’s like her—a werewolf. He helps her through the night until they fall asleep under the stars. When they wake up naked, she finds out that the black wolf is a very hot guy named Bellamy who has a proposition for her. Bellamy was born a werewolf, a gene passed down by his mom. He was raised as part of the pack and Marcus, the pack leader, was training him to take over when the time came. But then another pack came and killed most of their pack. Those that they didn’t kill they took prisoner—his sister being one of them. The only reason he’s alive is that Marcus had sent him out of state to meet with another pack. He knows that the wolf that bit Clarke is in this pack because he’d been watching her when she got bit—he just hadn’t been fast enough to stop it. Bellamy tells Clarke that he can help her get revenge on the man that turned her into a werewolf as long as she helps him get his people back. She doesn’t hesitate, her thirst for revenge and blood running too deep.

Tired of the pair's fighting she tricks them both into coming over at the same time and tells them that she will not choose. If they cannot get along then they can both leave. It's either both or neither of them. Reluctantly they get to know one another and realize that maybe the other isn't so bad.
