#limbo spider

Hello!! As you may or may not know, I've recently been designing a lot of fun characters based on real life spider species, and other arachnids as well! It's been a minute since I've shared any of these designs, so I figured I'd show off some more of them today! I also had my wonderful biologist friend @aphid-kirby help me identify some of these real life spider species, since I usually just search "cool spider photos" on google images for inspiration without caring what I'm actually looking at. So let's check out some more characters based on these real life spider species!

Here's Jambo and J.J., based on the Chirotheca telaincola and Ambulorbis psychedelia, respectively. In real life, these two species, despite not being very closely related, are both commonly referred to as "Scuttlebugs", causing some confusion for which one is actually being referred to. For that reason, I thought it would be fun to make them siblings! Jambo is the rowdy but protective big brother, and J.J. is the cute but also strange little sister.

This is Giacomo, based on the Triplumoculus spissumembrum. The real life species is known for it's three equally sized eyeballs, as well as it's floating limbs. Nature is crazy! Giacomo seems laidback on the surface, but he actually thinks quite highly of himself. If you were to have the right "Ability", so to say, you might be able to "cut" him down to your level. Or something.

Craftwell here is based on the Araneacaudex luxtranquilium, a tarantula known for it's strange blocky-like appearance. Similar to the real species, Craftwell is quite polite during the day, as he's quite the social butterfly, despite his bookish appearance. During the night, however, he gets VERY sucked into his hobbies of reading and writing, and it would be a grave error to disrupt him at this time of day. He drops String and Spider Eyes.

Dash is based on the Celericaecilia rubrumacula, a very tiny red spider capable of running quite quickly, and is known for being much more aggressive their blue-colored relatives. Dash is just a little guy :) In his design, I made sure to reference the many defining features of his real life counterpart, such as

This is Goldie, based on the Cephalospica retropoda, a spider with very distinct coloration that is also known for it's horn-like protrusion and strange placement of it's back pair of legs. Scientists still don't know why this species Evolved like this, but according to the Pokede- I mean, uh, scientific reports, they can't even tell it's front from it's back, so whose to say. Oh, and, uh, Goldie is, uh... cool... and red :)

My good friend Mr. Glove is based on the Myriachirotheca manususpendium, a spider with very strange behavior, in which it weaves it's web into glove-like accessories, despite spiders not having fingers! How weird! But it makes for a good anthro design, so that worked out huh! Mr. Glove is sort of an eccentric salesman, who would be happy to weave you your own pair of gloves. For a Price.

Stabitha is based on the Confodiopoda homophagus, a terrifying spider known for hiding in the shadows due to it's almost entirely silhouetted coloration, waiting to strike at it's prey. This spider doesn't just bite it's prey however, but it'll actually stab it with it's sharp legs! Yowch! A spider that sits and waits... hunting it's prey... such a violent and aggressive method of attack... so of course I turned it into a Hot Woman.

you need to understand limbo is a sakura so in every way shape form seimei must in essence either be an emiyaface (unfailing hero who saves even the evil) or (more likely to me) a kireiface (obsessed with human evils beyond human virtues). nagiko who is implied to be ashiya doumans student who so unfailingly treats him like hes a human before the beast that he is and murasaki the student of seimei who does not deliver seimeis message to douman and despite the hatred there is also empathy. seimei once saved the human ashiya douman but would there be the same mercy for the alter ego limbo? even worse than mercilessness, there might even be fascination with such an empty curse. murasakis narrator spell having been called a prank by seimei but also existing as something that derives the meaning behind peoples actions and words and then setting her up next to limbo in chaldea, letting her borrow the tsuchigumo, the fascination with horror movies that reveal grotesque sides of humanity, seimei who also once exposed and led tamamo to her death when tamamo was also someone never accepted by humans.

nagiko as a parallel to limbo in being so unfailingly human and full of life -> the fascination with "evil" characters like mephistopheles and the desire to see the humanity within them that they are so clearly crying out to understand-> limbo the programming code/grudge who is so empty and devoid of meaning he cant yet understand but is capable of wanting to take that step even if it would be futile

murasaki who is gloomy and isolated yet holds a genuine love for stories and humans -> reference with holmes who is an arbiter of justice that would sacrifice anything to defeat a great evil like moriarty, someone capable of discerning any truth presented but cannot share it -> seimei the jovial man who may appear bright and happy and human but is far more mechanical and empty than even the grudge which follows him, a fascination with evil born entirely to dismantle it

murasaki who does not have it in her to reveal the truth that while lord seimei may have once save the human ashiya douman, there is no such understanding with the empty curse that yearns not for love but for understanding. a limbo which cannot truly revel in human evils because it does not understand human love.

What vindication was there in the skull that limbo presents you. There was no glory in having killed this animal.

moriarty who was the greatest evil holmes had ever faced not because he was inherently so, but because moriarty determined that in order to complete his work he Has to become evil -> ashiya douman who had become evil not because of a desire for evil but because it was the step needed to possibly surpass seimei. an evil force out of its depth. a butterfly longing for humanity caught in the web of an all knowing spider.

Dark Web: X-Men highlights 1

Magik, having recently passed the crown of Limbo to Maddie Pryor, lays out the situation. 'Whenever Limbo changes hands, it throws hands.' She's quite right, and looks amazing in her Christmas sweater and Santa hat.

A third person flashback of key Maddie moments and a real time statement of purpose - Maddie wants the memories Jean has of raising Cable. The fact that her pain is real and valid is never downplayed.

One of her strategies to achieve this is using magic and her mutant gifts together to trap Jean and Ilyana in a simulation - as cute little kids! Yana is especially adorable.

Pulling the wool over Jean's eyes is quite the feat, and Magik is no slouch either. Then again, they don't know they're mutants here. I love that little Magik has a stick, I don't love Sinister's big creepy eye.

Ilyana is a headstrong little kid, but she's still a kid. Although, who doesn't want ice cream? She didn't get to have much of a childhood outside of Limbo, I suspect she's subconsciously enjoying it. Jean's childhood was different but rough in different ways.

Here's an abridged retelling of said childhood, leading all the way up to present day. That 'a lot of stuff happened' is doing some heavy lifting. Is that a musical with demons in Limbo?

Meanwhile, Scott and Alex are prisoners of a different sort. Scott has no visor and Maddie has strung up puppies so he can't open his eyes without killing them. I suspect Alex knows exactly what his 'Goblin gown' is. For once he's the sensible one, trying to reach Maddie through empathy - treating her as a person to be helped instead of an enemy to be defeated.

Iceman, Firestar and Spider-Man AKA Amazing Friends reunion work together to defeat an anthropomorphic Christmas tree and rescue a dog. Their victory is... bittersweet at best.

Aaand the Summers brothers are fighting. I think Alex is being a little unfair to Scott - he definitely knows what that's like. Scott could certainly be showing more empathy and listening to his failbro, though they are in a dungeon in hell. Like many family arguments, right and wrong doesn't come into it.

Look how proud little Yana is of her stick. Good for her. Makes sense that Apocalypse would show up at some point - he's been a massive pest for a long time. It's nice to see that in another time and place these two could have been friends with uncomplicated lives.

In part 2, will Havok prevail against a bunch of possessed shopping trolleys? Will the Summers brothers find some common ground? Maddie gets what she wants, but what will it cost? Also, we'll check in on Forge and the gadgets he's got for Inferno redux.
