I have never agreed with a Bridgerton post more. 😭 I will never understand why they don’t make the most of the cast they have and build up to their canon romances to create anticipation for each of their seasons, and instead throw random crap at us no one likes. I mean, NO ONE liked Cousin Jack, I can’t believed they thought anyone would. It’s like they created that storyline for the sole purpose of using up space rather than just giving us Bridgerton storylines or sibling moments or ya know, anything we could have enjoyed!

Still watching (mostly for Kathony crumbs) but so many of the showrunner’s & writers choices are ridiculous. I don’t get it.

YES! I so agree! I'll keep watching the series because there aren't a lot of other options for historical romance adaptations, tbh, but it's just ... annoying. I want the couple I came to watch, damnit!

That bridgerton sneak peak had some good chemistry they might make me tune in idk, I usually agree with you on most things ship related but I have a problem with this specific ship, Colin is the least interesting of the siblings so far but that's okay I didn't care for anthony either before his season, my bigger problem is Penelope, I think they tried to go for the drama and the twists too much and made her seem kind of awful? They're trying to pretend racism doesn't exist in that era but the way she outed Marina in s1 ( who was not doing a good thing at all but I don't she had much of a choice given her other option was abject poverty) and the way she talks about her friends in her column and outs everyone's shit, things that have really serious consequences on people's lives. The writers literally called her a villain which???? They're doing something I feel a lot of shows have a problem with lately, trying to girlboss women doing shitty things, same with their brand of white feminism for Eloise who spends all her scenes lamenting her fate and being "quirky" with no actual depth or confronting her privilege or trying to help other women or really anything at all, all she does is talk like a "not like other girls" girlie circa Tumblr 2012 and they're thinking omg we're being such feminists right now 🤣😅🤣

Girllll you better tune in anyway so we can get more seasons and other ships you might like better! PRESERVE OUR LIMITED ROMANCE GENRE.

In all seriousness, I totally get where you’re coming from! I personally love polin and I’m very excited for them, but I don’t think the writing has always been the best. Obviously a lot of polin fans don’t agree with me, but I still think this season not being Benedict’s is so strange and a mistake. The general audience adores him and I think both Colin and Penelope could’ve done with another season of personal growth (and slow burn) to help them win over the rest of the audience more. I like Colin and I think he’s actually really funny when they give him a chance, but he’s done nothing to scream leading man like Benedict has yet. I guess S3 will tell us how much is on the writing so far vs Luke Newton. I want him to be so amazing, but I get the doubts because I still have some nerves about it too. I think the sneak peek looked great and is a great start so I’m gonna go in with optimism and positive thoughts!

Gotta defend Eloise because I think her thinking she’s ranting and valid but actually being more out of touch than she realizes is mostly purposeful! I like that as a character flaw and I think it’s realistic for someone in her position. Or maybe I just love Eloise lol. Penelope is a bit of a more… complex case. I see why people hate her, although I personally mostly like her even though I think she sucks for what she did to the Bridgertons. She’s just treated so polarizing one way or the other by the fandom and the producers are obsessed with her and I think that’s part of the problem.

I have doubts any of the Bridgerton ships will beat kathony for me but overall this fandom is so weird! I don’t get the ship wars amongst the ships because they are all canon and they’re all meant to have their spotlight and be enjoyed. I don’t mean you anon when I say this btw, I mean more the hardcore Bridgerton fandom. It’s why I don’t engage with them a lot lol. I just want to enjoy a cute ship every season.

what do you think of the queen charlotte show

well.

to state the obvious: i think that no one in the bridgerton fandom would have minded this show if it weren't for the shitty treatment of the bridgerton series by shondaland. some may have loved it, some may have passed on it but in either case there would have been no hard feelings.

the problem is that at this point shonda is using a show that's supposed to be about the bridgerton family for her own OG characters, while screwing over the canonical protagonists.

it's one thing to make a spin-off about an OC. it's been done before. as a matter of fact when i first watched s1 (before i read the books and waaay before the disaster of s2) i remember being intrigued by the charlotte/george scenes. but combined with what's become of the main show? where instead of focusing on the bridgerton fam (spouses included obv) and expanding on them half the screen time is about trashy plotlines of the featheringtons and queen charlotte obsessing over some gossip rag writer? where the most beloved couple received #that treatment in s2 and kate was little better than a supporting character in anthony's story? well.

plus the whole social media thing is just the production provoking fans atp. what spin-off doesn't get its own accounts for promo?! why do they call it a bridgerton story when it has nothing to do with the bridgertons and there's not even a bridgerton character in it?

with that out of the way: my honest opinion after seeing the trailers is that it's gonna be a bingeable show. unlike s3, which i honestly believe is gonna be a snoozefest outside the 5 minutes kathony, frannie and benedict get, QC has a very strong female lead in india, the chemistry with the male lead is there and arsema’s lady d and young violet will probably steal the show too. the story looks compelling enough for it to be a big success.

there's the issue of the shitty plotline of king george marrying a black woman and “uniting two societies” but ig we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. at least im glad that from what we've seen so far it seems that black people have been an established part of the aristocracy way before the george/charlotte marriage (charlotte’s brother makes a comment about them coming from a european aristocratic bloodline or something and lady danbury is a lady) so at least it won't be like. king george marrying a woman from a socially ostracized minority and that magically bringing equality to the realm. then again i may be underestimating shondaland’s ability to fuck up and i’ll be eating my words. it's happened before when it comes to bridgerton predictions and will probably happen again.

but entertainment wise it shows that it'll be good.

So, this has popped up in my feed several times within the last few days, so I thought, why not give it a go and expose my fic writing persona. So....

103.282, which I know for some writers is like one story, but for me is quite a lot.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently only Bridgerton. I used to write for other fandoms waaaaay back in the day, specifically Buffy and Harry Potter. But looking at when the former wrapped up, you can see that I do mean way back when I say way back.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I usually do not, because I feel extremely embarrassed about what to say without sounding stupid and not being able to show my appreciation properly. Which I know is doing exactly the opposite, and I really, really want to change that, but unfortunately old habits die hard.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

All of my fics have a HEA, but I think the angstiest thing I have written so far is “Year of Hell” since the angst goes all the way until the last few paragraphs.  

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

As above, everything I write is HEA in the end.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully no. There were some weird comments that did not make much sense in the context of what I have written, but no hate.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Ehm... I try? I still feel quite embarrassed writing smut, but I am doing my best to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and include more M or E rated content in the future. I'm a very vanilla kind of girl though, so don't expect anything other than that.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not anymore, but the very first fic I have ever written was a Harry Potter/Discworld crossover (which was pure comedy) and there is an abandoned Harry Potter/Buffy story probably still buried somewhere on fanfiction.net that I never finished. You get the picture. .

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I did write a few fics in German. Needles to say, all have been abandoned.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

I have to say Bridgeton’s Kathony (Kanthony?), but there was a time when my heart belonged to How I met your Mother’s Barney and Robin. I shipped these two even before they became canon and still remember the discussion if they should be called Robarn or BRo (It's BRo btw. Robarn just sounds so wrong).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I really would like to finish that Buffy/HP crossover, but a) I am so way out of these fandoms by now that don’t think I could come up with a proper plot (and I forgot most of my initial outline) and b) I  have lost my password to all of my old fanfiction accounts as well as access to any email addresses that I used for them.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I can write an entire story without any dialogue. Does that count?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Finding the right words after dialogue in order to not repeatedly write he said/she said or a variation thereof. Not repeating myself, including not using the same words multiple times in a sentence or paragraph, is in general something I struggle with.

Courtesy of my lawyer brain, I also get stuck on details a lot and over think things far too much. It’s hard for me to sometimes just say “screw it” and not go down the rabbit hole of research because I want to get each and every fact right.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Only if it serves a purpose, and at least in my stories it never would. I exclude terms of endearment from that though. In my opinion these do not count as full dialogue.   

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter (and Discworld, since my very first fic was a crossover).

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Surprisingly Year of Hell. Which has a very similar structure to another one shot I am very proud of that I wrote for HIMYM like 15 years ago and found earlier this year on one of my old hard drives. I think it is still somewhere on fanfiction.net, but I really don’t remember under which nick I posted it, especially since I don’t even remember what nicks I used to go by back then to be honest

i know why you all are so against polin and its because you cant stand a midsize girl getting the happy ending. You always praise simone beauty and model body but she is an empty package, she is a bad person, with family, fans, friends coworkers and everyone really excepto her YT boyfriend and his rich white skinny friends. She spread unhealthy stereotypes for woman and thats okey for you all fatphobics

Honey, I DNF'ed Polin's book because it was boring. My favorite characters in their book were Felicity and Hyacinth. Felicity doesn't exist, and Hyacinth can't have the same role she had in the book because of them moving the time-frame way up. I actually shipped Polin more than Saphne during season 1, and was really excited to find out they were canon in the books. Then I tried to read their book and... just couldn't bring myself to care about them. There were just no real stakes. (A problem that admittedly WOULD be solved on the show by the fact that the Queen wants Lady Whistledown - except they probably won't actully unmask her to the ton this season because of not wanting to lose that narrative device.) Plus, Colin is one of those characters that I love in every other book, but kind of hated in his own. I do not care about the characters. Full fucking stop.

I love Simone because she is an amazing actress who did an incredible job of bringing my favorite Bridgerton character to life despite how little the writers gave her to work with. Kate is such a compelling character to me. And after the way Simone acted her fucking heart out with her, yeah. I'm excited to see what else she can do.

As for her looks, and the "unhealthy stereotype" she spreads... how DARE she be comfortable in her own skin? Only bigger women are allowed that, right? She's not unhealthily skinny for her frame size. What do you want her to do? Overeat to get pudgy because you think her natural body shape and size is somehow wrong?

Nicola is also obviously very comfortable in her body, and as someone who is NOT, I love that for her. I envy Nicola's confidence far more than I envy Simone's body. Because confidence is attainable, I will never look like Simone because I don't have her bone structure. But, hey! Maybe you ARE jealous of her and that's your real problem.

TL/DR I loved Kate and Kathony before Simone was ever cast. And I loved Polin until I tried to read their book (and until Penelope got two subplots in season 2 and her family took up so much screen time that would have been better served by fleshing out the Sharma family and giving THEM a proper subplot). It has nothing to do with the actresses.

Hmm I just don’t accept their show relationship as canon I guess.

They had the chance to do some really vulnerable moments with Mary and Kate and they just… didn’t. Like open that door, let us see how much Mary is truly still grieving her husband. Let us see her trying to connect back with reality. Because I honestly think that wedding was a huge wake up call for her. And we see the very second she realises that she’s missed Kate’s true feelings. She says earlier that Kate’s always longed for independence and when Anthony knees in front of her I think Mary realises that she fell for the mask. And she missed the girl underneath who was so desperate for love. And it could have been such a strong moment for them.

Stop focusing on Violet and Lady Danbury not knowing what to do because their hairbrained matchmaking scheme didn’t pay off. And show me Mary knowing exactly where to find Kate. Kneeling beside her in the closet and letting her cry against her chest.

OK but why am I suddenly a Portia apologist if she was Gothic!Portia. Oh she did something morally grey that leans more dark? She must have had her reasons. Maybe because it feels like her daughters are more in the know maybe even willingly participating. Makes it feel like The Featheringtons are as bonded as Bridgertons just darker.

That might be my fault. I actually love and am really enjoying Portia Featherington and the shows' direction of making her Violet's foil, especially when it comes to motherhood. So, some of my head canons leak into my writing.

Now don't get me wrong I love busybody Book!Portia too. I find her funny, and she's partly the reason Kathony finally got married. Yeah, her and Penelope still have their differences, but honestly what mother and daughter don't. It's also not if Portia doesn't love her daughters, she says she does herself. She's just got a little bit of tunnel vision sometimes when her mind is set on something.

Gothic!Portia still has the slight obliviousness to her that regular Portia has but this time it is directed at the ton instead of her daughters. She wants the rest of the ton to like her family of course and for her daughters to marry well. But she gets confused when Violet and Mary pull her aside and tell her that no Felicity does not need a shotgun for husband hunting, and Penelope absolutely should not wander around at night, especially during the witching hour.

Portia will just sigh. Honestly the ton was so weird sometimes. Once in a while Portia will wonder if they should try a season in Spain where her mother and mother's family lives. They would agree about how weird the ton is too.

It's such textbook virtue signaling and I'm tired of it. Just a lot of shit happened on this blog and then when you sent this in I was trying to keep my blog ‘neutral’ because some people took offence to my post calling you-know-whos after a old timey disease and decided that we wouldn’t be impartial with our poll results which btw I apologise to everyone who is still waiting for it - I’ve been depressed (I’m fine don’t worry it just be like that sometimes) and my friends all have started school/work so life has happened we’re going to try to compile everything starting this weekend hopefully! Let’s get into your ask, shall we! I don’t have more points to add to be honest - you said it all! 

Sophie saved their book!! And also we have Luke T to thank for making Ben even more likeable! Ben has his charming moments in the books but we all - even those of us who love him - gotta admit he was so creepy at times being so pushy. I think its good for us Benophines to accept that part of him in Book Canon and engage critically with that aspect of him. 

However that being said, you’re absolutely right about the way other subfandom fans can be so annoying about our ships by acting all high and mighty about their ship both being virgins. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that inherently and it can be romantic - but to act like that somehow makes their racist faves a morally better couple??? Do they realise they sound super puritan and like Church Pastors and Nuns who scared us former Christian kids into not having sex cos it was supposedly a sin?? 

It’s funny when you realise now most of them are trying to their couple out to be Kathony 2.0 in order to generate the hype for S3 its pretty sad that they don’t even believe in their own ship to let them be their own people.

To end this ask off I do wanna reiterate two very poignant points you made in your ask: 

I'm disinterested in half the bridgerton ships but I don't go around pretending to have a good reason why.  

They're already getting their season a year early, just leave us to our misery and they enjoy the content you get instead of constantly rubbing it in our faces. Every single ship is annoying but *god* their egos have inflated to the size of a bounce house lately. 

I have no idea why That Subfandom is so hellbent on everyone liking them and their ship so damn much. Like just accept that the show version have shitty versions of those characters and that majority of your fandom are racist assholes so the rest of us want nothing to do with you!! Be secure in yourselves and accept that you don’t need anyone else’s validation - yall have shown yourselves that you’re are deluded enough anyway. 

[I always say this but just a reminder: the only valid ones are most of the time Book Polins who hate the show version and are upset their fave chars have been character assassinated - I actually have a Polin who sent me an ask about this! We are not trivializing queerness.

To ship two non-canon characters is not inherently disrespectful of a canon ship. To reimagine a canonically straight character as queer is not disrespectful. Fandom and fanfiction exists for a reason, and I am exhausted with people attempting to police it. Here's a thought: how about we live and let live?

It doesn't "pain" me to see eight straight couples in Bridgerton- it bores me. I quite frankly won't give too much of a damn if that is what it ends up being in the show as well- I'll just be less entertained, and continue to imagine all the other possibilities and maybe write them if I feel particularly inspired.

And here's the thing: the people shipping canon ships "longer than I've been on earth" don't need to give a damn about who I ship either!

"If you don't respect the other ships then don't expect them to respect yours." What is "respecting" a ship, I ask? Does it mean suppressing your imagination, your views, and your words online, so that other people don't feel triggered by queerness?

(And don't bother equating this with how some people feel about the Siena x Anthony ship. That's not the same and you know it- besides, even if we do ship Santhony, why should Kathony shippers give a damn?).

That is not how fandom works.

I'm an equal opportunity shipper. I enjoy reading multiple pairings with the same characters and as long as it's well written, I'm honestly down to read anything. And I have never torn down others for who they ship if they do ship exclusively canon couples- in fact, it's these other people who have repeatedly come into my inbox on Tumblr and attempted to police my thoughts and views on couples such as Eloise and Marina, Siena and Anthony, potential queerness in Bridgerton, and racism in Bridgerton.

Whether my ship is "portrayed justly" should not hinge on how other ships "deserve" to be portrayed. Again, live and let live. Let me ship in peace, and I won't give a shit about who you ship.

As for the divergence from canon not being possible where it concerns potentially queer main couples, I don't think it's out of the question. It is very much possible based on the radical changes the Bridgerton writers have already created within the universe. But whether it happens or not is a different story, and honestly, I won't be too cut up if the characters end up with exactly who they do in the Bridgerton book series. Again, I'll just be mildly less entertained. Besides, the possibility of otherwise will always exist in our minds, fueled by our imagination, our loves, and real history because queer people exist and have always existed.

And sure, we can call for more shows focused on queer characters, maybe even more queer historical romances, but it is not an either/or situation here: We can also reimagine canon straight characters as queer, and perhaps even hope for it where a show like Bridgerton is concerned, because that's what fandom is for.

We are not trivializing queerness. You are, in fact the ones erasing it, delegitimizing it, and dehumanizing it within the fandom space under the guise of "adhering to canon".

2. Newton gets an arc!!! Pls let it be known that, in terms of things I am excited about, priority goes Kathony kiss, mr finch cheese content, then Newton arc. Fight me!!! 

3. Kate is “outside the ton and deliberately put herself in there.” EW author also called her a ‘spinster,’ which should be taken with a grain of salt would def explain her non-dance card laden wrists. I am very excited about this prospect, an improvement from canon for me.

4. The sharmas grew up in India (No comment).

5. Queen uses Edwina AS A PAWN to unmask whistledown??? Will she tell Edwina to cause more drama/advise her poorly on situations to lure LW into spotlight so Charlotte can nail to her to a time/place/person?? Eloise wants to find LW too but is protective over her. Will Edwina and Eloise be rivals in that? Will they team up and be friends like in the book? Will they and Pen have a little nerd girl squad??? This crum can only lead to great shit imo.

6. Jonny’s comment about Anthony being most “honest, fatigued and exhausted” in quiet moments in his study and in women’s beds. I wanna see him fuck someone else and then be emo about it, hope this confirms this.

7. KATE IS IN TOUCH WITH HER DESIRES !!! She’s been to a farm for sure lol, has maybe gotten herself off and potential for raunchy dreams from her AND him. They should splice the dreams together in editing, just for me to enjoy.

8. Colin is a biscuit king. Love the physical comedy and cartoonish aspect when it’s put in the show. Sibling stuff and fun moments were best part of S1. Lets hope we get a lot of this.

9. Daphne is considered ‘the rock’ of the siblings now, ‘the adult’ and someone to guide Anthony on his journey to love lol, but also she ‘lets her hair down’ at Aubrey hall and is v competitive at Pall Mall. This was the only thing they could really do with her, so I just hope the shift seems natural for her character. 

10. Simone said that Kathony “TEACH EACH OTHER HOW TO LOVE, TO LET LOVE IN, GIVE LOVE, AND ACCEPT THE SCARY PARTS” this. THIS. is why I don’t think they’ll fuck up the romance or even that much of the backstory (or at least Anthony’s :/)

11. Polin wrote while he was away?? Cute. 

12. Kate and Anthony are ‘anti-gossipers’ in Simone’s words. Makes sense for Anthony, and for both after marriage, but Kate not being into whistledown is a deviation from the book. Not mad at it, not a big deal to me either?

13. Edwina is ‘optimistic to a fault’ and looking for a LOVE match. But has a ‘wild streak’. She wants to be sensible but her true nature is to be starry-eyed idealist. it also said “She lets others speak for her bc she can’t express herself.” While i personally hope she makes out with some girls and also think she will have a classism subplot thing along with queen stuff, we know she will get a happy ending. we just don’t know what it is. What we do know is that ppl will hurt her/take advantage of her along the way, and she will hurt in return. 

14. They still won’t admit Jack is the featherington heir. Which fine, I guess but I see no other way. Maybe he’s a solicitor. But he’s involved with the featheringtons for sure and idk i want him to fuck portia there i said it.

15. Pen has money she could use to help her family but doesn’t. That deviated from canon a bit but it’s interesting for sure. I think we’ll see her make as poor of decisions as last season but also show remorse. Her arc is a little too big to nail down.

16. Colin’s “not focused on romance” but “other pursuits and ventures” that dont end in heartbreak. So what you’re saying is that he’s a whore. Good. Maybe he’ll gain his interest in writing. 

17. Kate’s “outside the rules” but also has “a lot to work out” this alludes to her backstory, i think. And it’s confirmed her and Ed are half sisters so we have that too.

18. The video said EW released like an hour or two ago said shit about fooling around “in the library. you never know who could be in the stacks.” Who. WHO. WHOO.

my heart kind of says Katniss but honestly neither are that strict in my opinion.

Katniss is much more of a worry wort than Peeta so her. without a doubt. he’s the one tossing the babies too high in the air and showing them how to play wrestle.

Katniss does however take them to the woods though, even as infants, like her father did with her and that scares Peeta since he’s never been fully comfortable in the woods (it reminds him too much of their first arena) so the idea of his babies out there gives him heart palpitations.

- Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)?

Peeta, their baker daddy. although remembers isn’t the right word. it’s just the task he chose to take on when he and Katniss were delegating duties.

- Who is the more loved parent?

their kids love them infinitely. I always imagine their daughter really idolizes both of them, but in completely different ways. their son is a bit more quiet and introspective than his sister, less likely to tell them how much he loves them, but he feels similarly. but overall I wouldn’t say either of them are more loved than the other by the toast babies.

- Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings?

God, imagine Katniss or Peeta at a PTA meeting 🤣🤣🤣.

- Who cried the most at graduation?

both. especially because their children’s graduation won’t signify the same thing it did in their day. when their kids graduate, it won’t be a celebration of them making it through six reapings without being chosen and it won’t mean it’s time for their babies to go off to the mines or take over the family business. it’ll just mean they’re done with school and onto the next phase of their lives. for the toastbabies, it’ll seem like less of a big deal to them than it is to their parents but they try to be understanding of their mom and dad and their emotions.

- Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law?

both. and honestly I don’t see either Katniss or Peeta being too angry at them for breaking the law tbh. rebellious streaks can be genetic and we know they both had a tendency to rebel/break the law for survival or the greater good, so as long as the toasts don’t commit murder or a heinous crime, they probably wouldn’t be too put out about it imo.

Peeta. Katniss canonically can’t cook very well. As she told us near the beginning of either The Hunger Games or Catching Fire.

Neither really?

- Who does the grocery shopping?

Katniss. I can’t really conjure up a real solid career for her post-canon so she’s the one, in my mind, who goes to town to pick up all their necessities besides bread and treats.

- How often do they bake desserts?

all the time, since Peeta is a literal baker 😂. although I can imagine he’d get sick of it and need a break every so often. even bakers have burn outs. great pun, samantha. great pun.

- Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater?

meat, for sure. Katniss still likes to hunt, not even out of necessity but because the act genuinely brings her peace and salads would just remind her of times when she was starving and had to eat grass/leaves/dandelions to survive.

Peeta. For sure.

- Who is more likely to suggest going out?

To eat? I don’t imagine either of them being too into going out to eat.

I feel like Peeta gets real into the holidays after the war and if Katniss wants to make him happy, which she usually does unless she’s put out with him, she’ll help.

Katniss. but that’s rare.

hmmm, it would have to be a pretty soft prank since I don’t think they’d find like jumpscares too funny after all they’ve been through. With that said, Katniss did a jump scare on him in the middle of the Quarter Quell with Finnick’s help so I guess the obvious answer here is her. But Peeta is so sassy I wouldn’t be surprised if he got her back.

Today on Bella Talks Writing I'm going to talk about a fic I have started writing, but I'm still writing chapter 1, so haven't posted anything yet. It's called What Might Have Been, and it's my Edmund doesn't die fic. How would things be different for Kathony if Anthony doesn't have that particular trauma hanging over his head?

Well, for starters, Anthony would 100% pursue Kate from the get-go. Of course, there's still Kate's trauma to deal with. Plus the fact that even without his trauma, Anthony is still an idiot. It's going to be a weird conglomerate of book and show canons with obviously several things different from either.

The set-up is pretty much the show. Kate and Anthony meet during a dawn horseback ride, and have the conversation they have in their show meeting. I've just added some of Anthony's thoughts. Anthony goes to Bridgerton House and talks to Edmund and ends up telling him about the girl he met in the park. I am honestly loving writing Edmund. He is a total deadpan snarker, who enjoys teasing his children. I guess that my Muse decided that he's where the Bridgerton gang gets their biting wit from. So, Anthony tells Edmund about meeting this lady in the park, and it takes Edmund about 2 seconds to realize that his son has managed to fall in love with a woman whose name he doesn't even know. Fast forward to Lady Danbury's ball. Apparently Violet questioned why Anthony seemed so eager to attend the ball, and Edmund tells her that Anthony is looking to get married this season. But, since he promised not to say anything about the girl in the park, he doesn't elaborate that it's because he's already found the woman he wants to marry. So, Anthony ends up still roped into that whole dancing with a bunch of hopeless women mess. And then the conversation with Fife and Cho happens. What poor Kate doesn't know when she overhears it, is that Anthony is literally just describing her in terms that his idiot friends would understand. (We also leave out the bit about him not looking for a love match. Anthony might twist things to avoid conversations he doesn't want to have, but he's not going to flat-out lie.) She tells him off like she does in the show, but it's Anthony that leaves early out of dejection because the girl he likes hates him.

Edwina is named the Diamond of the season, and Queen Charlotte chooses Anthony to be Edwina's first dance after the announcement. They have very little to talk about, because Anthony isn't remotely interested in her. But, Kate doesn't realize that. Her pulling Edwina away after the dance is how Anthony finds out who she is. And now he has a name to go with the face. Except, she still hates him. He has his work cut out for him.

And then we start to bring in things from the book. Namely the Smythe-Smith musicale and Edwina's pronouncement about needing Kate's permission to marry. It occurs to Edmund that if the Sharma sisters are close enough that Edwina wants Kate's blessing to marry, that perhaps the way to Kate's heart might be to get Edwina's blessing. At the next ball, while most of the men looking to marry that season are clamoring to sign Kate's dance card, hoping to make a good impression and earn the right to court Edwina, Anthony goes straight to Edwina and asks for her first dance. At first she thinks he's being bold by bypassing Kate, though she's a bit confused because he didn't seem all that interested during their first dance together. Then he sets her straight and explains that he is actually doing exactly what all the men signing Kate's dance card are doing - dancing with one sister in the hopes of getting her to help him win the other. She finds the situation hilarious, because the whole reason she made that announcement was in the hopes that at least one man who spent time with Kate to try to get close to Edwina would end up falling for Kate, instead. And now here's this man who is already falling for Kate. So, she offers to do her best to help.

Edmund and Edwina are the biggest Kathony shippers, with the Bridgerton siblings not far behind. Though, there are times when Edwina questions Anthony's sincerity. And at least one instance where Edmund questions his son's honor. As mentioned, I'll be pulling things from both book and show and exploring how those scenes would play out differently if Anthony wasn't quite as screwed up as he is in canon. Plus adding Edmund himself to many of them. The one iconic scene that obviously will not be in this is the bee. Without Edmund's death, there's no reason for Anthony's phobia. But, we'll have pall mall (with Edmund joining in), the library scene, and I might switch up the carriage/horseback riding accident scene to have Anthony be the one injured since Kate is the one with conflicted feelings in this, and Anthony never once questions his feelings for her.

I'm probably about halfway done with chapter 1. So, I should start posting soon. Hoping before the end of the month.

cvd's comment about how good tv is "putting characters in the worst situation imaginable and seeing how they get themselves out of it" is like...what the fuck? what a cheap writing tactic! i want to see characters with consistent motivations full arcs, not gratuitous angst! this GoT-esque tactic does explain why s2 though 😔. this is long winded way to say that your fics are more canon to me than s2 because they are simply much better quality writing. thank you for your gifts to fandom 💖

Hi anon! I wasn't aware he said that but yeah, no. Kate and Anthony were already in the worst situation possible. They had both gone through their worst and they were stuck there. They were going through hell, deeply traumatized at the beginning of TVWLM and they just kept going. They were in survival mode. Things change when they meet each other, and it takes a while to get there, but they are each other's catalysts for facing their demons.

Putting them in the worst situation possible is such a weak reason to make them end up together and out of every worst situation possible, he chose to make Anthony not only propose (I will NEVER get over Kate's face when he does that) but go as far as to the altar and as a consequence of all this, pit Kate and Edwina against each other and have the Bridgertons ? Yeah, no.

I really think they thought TVWLM was too similar to S1 and it wouldn't sell to the audiences if they did it again and that's why they went so off course. Also that K&A are such a strong couple, they would be so lovable and do even better than Daphne and Simon who were so loved, they could do whatever with them and change it up and it would still do brilliantly. It's been so successful and it's great people enjoy it but at the cost of Kate and Anthony's trauma and essence.

I've permanently blocked the final GOT season out of my mind. I can be positive about Bridgerton S2 in ways, mainly about the Kathony content we did get and how phenomenal Simone and Johnny were, but I'll never be able to with GOT's finale lol.

We got S2 and I don’t want to be negative about it, even if some of my opinions are negative, it is what it is and I’m focusing on the parts and J&A which I did love!
