I'm thinking about an AU where like...Ody picks up a feral kid from an island who stows away on the ship. It'd be good to get some whimsy on that ship and maybe things go better. Hope Penelope doesn't mind an extra kid + Telemachus having a wild child of a little sibling now. Very overly enthusiastic, half the crew is terrified, other half is like "yeah the kid has good survival technique ideas." Ody is like, "please stop gleefully mopping the bloodied castle" after kid decides to be helpful. Proceeds to kick a suitors head out of the hallway so OdyPen can walk around together peacefully.

excuse you, that child is helping!!! Ody, Telemachus, and Penelope are reuniting and tired and this child, out of the goodness of their heart is cleaning the palace (with aid of course) 😤

they don’t need to bc by that point their an official ward of the palace, but it the thought that counts (they totally loot the suitor’s stuff in the process)

#but yeah Ody and his men having a child along for their trip would be so fun!#(and why i still daydream about what if Ody didn’t throw the infant from the wall of Troy)#you’d have Polites spoiling them while Eurylochus is now calculating rations for 600 men + child. what to entertain them bc space is small #Ody daydreaming about Telemachus (imma say he projects some of his desires of being the dad he wanted to be sans Troy on the kid)#and i am already team big brother Telemachus so when Ody arrives with a kid Telemachus is so onboard bc now HE gets to tell #the kiddo tales and play with them and educate them about Ithaca (they have been given a rundown by the crew but the kid indulges)#Penelope is apprehensive at first bc it’s definitely not HER kid but it does not look like Ody #and she knows her husband inside and out #so after the apprehension is appeased Penelope is onboard for a new kid #she knows how lonely her son was I. Those years they waited for their missing family to return #(and sure we can speculate over whether or not the kid can get past Zeus’s Lightning bolt but imma ignore that for now)#(we will all assume the kid just survives it all and is there with Ody even if other crew members aren’t)#asks #epic the musical #the odyssey #(actually wait what if the kid was from Calypso’s island? 👀 washed ashore long ago and stayed bc Calypso refused to let them go)#(she projects her dreams of caring for another at the corner of the child ever growing/aging. they have been a child for so long)#(a blessing and curse. they do not envy Calypso’s difference of affection for Ody. but they do not refuse when offered a chance to leave)

Lukewarm take but, even if Penelope wasn't legendarily faithful to her husband....she didn't exactly have a lot of attractive choices did she? I mean, what did the suitos do to convince anyone they would be decent at ruling? Park themselves in her halls and literally eat the kingdom out of house and home and openly plot to murder her son?

Even if I was in the market for a new (young) husband, with these options I would also lock myself up in my chambers and see how long these idiots think it takes to weave a burial shroud.

#i might be biased since liane moriarty is one of my favorite authors of all time and i made a special trip to get this book the day it #came out #(miss moriarty PLS give details abt ur tenth novel!!)#but it all comes together soooo well in the book #and while i understand stuff like polly perkins or stan's mom being cut #i dont understand replacing an entire character (christina khoury) or leaving out major shit like joy texting her kids #savannah's anger at the delaneys #or the way they rewrote huge stuff like harry leaving the delaneys or where joy was etc etc #or adding in shit like troy's affair or the hope circle or whatever #the book is so good and i feel like they missed out by changing so much #apples never fall #books

my friends and i have been watching the star trek movies and i have soooo many thoughts about first contact but its been like 3 years since i watched the borg episodes in tng and im like. fuck do i need to rewatch those rq to figure out if my faint gripe with first contact is valid or not? shit, man

#star trek blogging #cause the movie deliberately reframes picard's locutus incident because it needs to retcon in the borg queen #and nothing it says about the incident as a physical event is. incorrect per se. theyve been pretty careful #but IIRC they've changed the motivations for the borg to have handled it like they did #they didnt pick picard because he was like. specialist boy in the world. its because hes a negotiator and available #hes a respected human face they can use to ease their conquest. he'll be assimilated once earth is finished #hes only augmented superficially because they need him to appear human #they want humanity to see locutus and see a face they trust. its all a lie. a facade. an image plastered atop the borg framework #and the movie makes it about picard being an intellectual equal to the borg queen and this whole dynamic and its like ? uhuh #sort of points towards the mythologising of picard that leads us to Star Trek Picard #which i havent seen but am conceptually against because star trek shouldnt be about Great Men. about singular figures #its about The Enterprise. its about the ideals the ship upholds. the crew who work in service to it #the different people who transport into its hold and the impact they make together on the world #its not about one man! humanity didnt defeat the borg because picards special. they beat the borg because the enterprise fought together #because the crew looked at the situation and said 'we will not leave a man behind' and bent all odds to make it so #its about teamwork! its not about one bald guy!#and because picard and kirk in particular are the ~stars~ of probably the more well regarded series' overall #they just. are elevated and its like my man #kirk couldnt have done shit without scotty in engineering 'giving her all shes got'#picard couldnt do shit without riker's support or data's knowledge or troi's empathy #like you know what i mean? its not about the one guy.#blargle blargle #i mean tng has a general problem with giving picard and data too much sotlight because theyre exceptionally good actors #and thats a whole other proble and im not getting into it. aaarugh

my thoughts on this finale are so mixed but. skidmark & alicia comeback, victor fully redeemed and happy with his family AND gets to go on knowing that madison is alive, sherry & dwight survived and back together, daniel survived... yeah it could have been worse

#im not even a huge troy otto fan and i was really annoyed to see him brought back but i was starting to get really interested in what they #were doing with him this season and that sudden death felt like really wasted potential #i wouldnt have minded him getting killed off i dont think hes deserving of full redemption at all but id rather they at least cleared #everything up with him and didnt just leave it hanging in the air like that #but yeah its ftwd my standards for this show have never been super high #its fun and i dont take it too seriously #i enjoyed it overall im upset abt some deaths along the way but im happy with where all the surviving characters ended up #ftwd #fear the walking dead #madison clark #alicia clark #tracy otto #troy otto #daniel salazar #ftwd dwight #ftwd sherry

A Brief Rundown of the IRL Ithaca Saga (to the best of my memory, in probably not chronological order)

jorge (creator, odysseus) decided it'll be cool to celebrate the ithaca saga with the epic cast via a trip to ithaca, greece

surely nothing can go wrong

mico (telemachus) seemingly found out about the trip with the rest of the fandom. he proceeded to plot a trip to ithaca

the epic cast dealt with multiple broken vans and missed a ferry by one minute. they had to cancel a stream because they were too exhausted

mico made it onto a plane

ithaca got hit by a typhoon, forcing them to move another stream indoors

mico got banned from tiktok. it was reversed

mason (tireseas) asked luke (zeus) to stop the rain. luke refused

the crew hiked up to odysseus' palace. they ran into a roadblock. mason looked into the future and did not see a way around it. (they found a way around it)

the crew found a well and sang their epic songs into it. except jp (crew) who just sang happy birthday

janani (aphrodite) also sang "royal we" into the well

anna (penelope) made it onto the plane to fly out to ithaca

hermes (troy) decided to take a plane to ithaca like a normal human instead of teleporting. he got side-eyed by a woman at the airport as he slept sprawled out in a chair. this quickly became a meme

hermes arrived in ithaca to the delight of everyone except jorge. mico also appeared in his videos. mico still had not updated anything after getting on the plane

anna's connecting flight got cancelled, leaving her stranded in a fancy hotel. she struggled to find the toilet in her hotel room

mico finally updated, claiming he was stuck in munich. mason appears in the video and gives him a water bottle, proving he is lying

the fandom believes mico anyway

mico is forced to post another video revealing he had been gaslighting us basically the entire time and was just delayed in getting to ithaca, that was all

troy and talya (circe), in character, talk about tea. troy says the tea tastes like her father's approval. earle (ares) then asks for 1000 cups and breaks down crying as luke cuts the camera

jorge posts a video apologizing for mico's absence, encouraging him to fly to ithaca, new york. mico appears in the background of this video

mico posts a video saying that he's finally in ithaca, but the crew is in ithaca, new york. jorge appears in the background of this video

jp films a behind the scenes video, calling out "some random guy" who just showed up asking if anyone knows jorge. it's mico

janani sings "royal we" again, but after she says "troy was breached" troy comes out screaming in pain. mico appears in the background of this, filming the video from two points above

it's time for the ithaca saga livestream... except it gets cancelled because the connection is bad and jorge's devices are dying

TL;DR: the gods saw the epic crew in ithaca and went "do you guys think it'll be really funny if we just. recreated the odyssey"
