I was reading cartledge's book on thebes and every now and then the spartan focuses wrt to the pantheon of gods comes up. sparta has nothing to do with this except for where it does, but apollo karneios was discussed and that got my attention, which circled back to paris, and then I started thinking about the paris + apollo link

I also started thinking about narrative rejections bc paris has a funky absence in the iliad that's giving a kind of...a vibe. your parents shouldn't have had you, the story doesn't want you around, but oh boy are you there anyway, manifested into existence. no matter what, doom must manifest in flesh form. it's a narrative necessity, the actual incident (the judgement) is secondary.

Honestly a bit ridiculous that the Titans split up when eating at a restaurant because they didn't want to draw as much attention to themselves. Like I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference when you've got someone with golden skin and fiery red hair at one table while a green dude and a cyborg sit at a table diagonal to her.

If anything, it seems more suspicious that the Titans aren't eating together. I feel like it would just start rumors that the Titans don't get along with each other, or they're only friendly with certain members.

I'm thinking about an AU where like...Ody picks up a feral kid from an island who stows away on the ship. It'd be good to get some whimsy on that ship and maybe things go better. Hope Penelope doesn't mind an extra kid + Telemachus having a wild child of a little sibling now. Very overly enthusiastic, half the crew is terrified, other half is like "yeah the kid has good survival technique ideas." Ody is like, "please stop gleefully mopping the bloodied castle" after kid decides to be helpful. Proceeds to kick a suitors head out of the hallway so OdyPen can walk around together peacefully.

excuse you, that child is helping!!! Ody, Telemachus, and Penelope are reuniting and tired and this child, out of the goodness of their heart is cleaning the palace (with aid of course) 😤

Lukewarm take but, even if Penelope wasn't legendarily faithful to her husband....she didn't exactly have a lot of attractive choices did she? I mean, what did the suitos do to convince anyone they would be decent at ruling? Park themselves in her halls and literally eat the kingdom out of house and home and openly plot to murder her son?

Even if I was in the market for a new (young) husband, with these options I would also lock myself up in my chambers and see how long these idiots think it takes to weave a burial shroud.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

The voice I write with for him is based heavily on Hades game, so my favorite thing about writing him is the sarcasm and depression he speaks with. It's very fun to write from the perspective of someone so bitter.

Least favorite thing at the moment is that I've written soooo much Patroclus, recently I feel like everything I do is repetitive. I am treading the same ground again and again. Stale.

My other least favorite thing about him is how people get so pissy about the various adaptations. He's a beast! He's a soft boi! He's an unreliable narrator! blah blah. I just don't think it's worth getting territorial over.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I first meaningfully encountered Achilles and Patroclus in Hades game, and weirdly they left almost no impression on me on my first playthrough. I specifically remember a friend asking me if I wanted to write fic about them, and I was like, I never think about them at all. I fell deep into a ThanZag hole and barely even noticed Achilles was there, much less the sexy eeyore up in Elysium.

It wasn't until I wrote Void a couple months into my Hades obsession (and I would have finished reading tsoa at that point and started the Iliad) that I really warmed up to Patroclus. Void has like 15 POVs in it, and his was one of my favorites to write, which surprised me at the time. I became absolutely addicted to his POV after that.
