I'm not sure if I'm ever gonna include them in any way if I ever get around to my AU!Links meet AU, but I wanted to do my take on the CDi duo! (Wall of text with my thought process under the cut)

I haven't played those games myself, but I did watch playthroughs of the remastered versions of Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil. And as hilariously cursed those games are (in gameplay, animations, plot, as well as dialogues), the thing that bothers me the most about those games is that if we look at only the plot, the stories had the potential to be really good. And they just. Botched it. (I have also started to look at a playthrough of Zelda's Adventure, since I kinda want this Zelda to be the Heroine of Tolemac too because it would be fun if she could light-heartedly tease Link for having saved him more often than him saving her, but I don't yet know how to incorporate those details.)

Anyway, this is how I would tweak Zelda and Link if I was put in charge to remake those games today with as little as possible change of the things that are there already.

Personality-wise, rather than Link trying to flirt with Zelda every time he gets the chance, they're besties and Link's flirting is actually an in-joke between them where Link is mocking all the nobles trying to woo her. He is not romantically inclined at all (aroace af to put it frankly) and gets really flustered ans awkward when people are flirting with him or touchy when it's somebody he doesn't know well. The reason he was imprisoned in the mirror by that Noble Lady Alma in WoG was because he wouldn't kiss her. And rather than just brushing it off like in canon (which is just really weird and a missed opportunity imo), Zelda's "oh nothing happened" was to sooth a groggy and injured Link while the Lady Alma was escorted to a holding cell. So he has some scars from the mirror breaking and his memories of being trapped are mostly somewhat hazy but there. The scars-from-the-mirror idea was shamelessly stolen from the Koridai from @linked-maze (highly recommend y'all check it out, it's currently on hiatus but it's really good ❤), though my version's scar looks more like broken glass then glass cuts, because I want him to match (and share some trauma) with the Shadow Link (aka Flint) from my AU Four Wild Ones. Other than that he's still a hungry goof-ball who is always up for eating like a like-like and bombing dodongos.

Zelda on the other hand is as helpful to commoners and sassy to enemies as hinted in her cutscenes, and whichever of her many suitors she will eventually select one of her (not vocalized) requirement (other than being kind and competent) is that the suitor must not only be okay with Link being a third wheel, they must actually enjoy it and preferably partake in the shenanigans she and Link will cause. This is also why Ganon had her placed under a sleeping spell when he kidnapped her in FoE: The first thing she did when he took her to Koridai was to cause trouble at his fort and nearly escape.

When it comes to their designs, I wanted them to have some similarities in the silhouette, and also stand out a bit from my normal go-to options, but still contain something from the CDi designs. In Link's case, his canon design is pretty much the same as in the other early canon games, but I felt that poofy sleeves and collar would suit him. I might even make the sleeves even poofier in the future. I did plan on making his hair brown, because it was more brown in some of his cutscenes, but I settled on a darker blond that can look blond or brown depending on the light. It's also kind of a mullet cut, though his cap normally hides that detail.

And as I wanted Zelda's silhouette match Link's a bit rather than being so very 90's in style, her vest got turned into a poofy-sleeved bolero-thingy. I also find crop tops to be very uncomfortable and not quite matching my version of her, so I turned that into a short dress with shorts underneath. I also decided that early on while on her first adventure she grew sick of not only things getting stuck in her hair but also monsters trying to grab it, so she found herself a villager who was willing to cut it for her, so she sports an undercut (kinda like Colin in TP I suppose, but less of a bowl cut). As I was colouring her outfit I realized I accidentally made her clothes kinda the same shape as Purah's outfit in TotK, but that's fine, that outfit is ✨amazing✨ anyway imo lol

Not sure where in the LoZ Universe Timeline I think they fit, but among the CDi games my order of them is Faces of Evil -> Wand of Gamelon -> Zelda's Adventure

Game Night: CHAIN ATTACK!!!

i WAS going to put time in a turtleneck, but had an epiphany and started digging for the most obnoxious hawaiian shirts i could find,,, ft. a sea flower (wind waker) and a saturation boosted plumm (twilight princess)!

yeah so warriors got the sweater instead of the skintight shirt, sorry gang

speaking of if i ever say im going to draw a cableknit sweater again, somebody PLEASE shake some sense into me- warriors sweater was a NIGHTMARE since my art program has an astonishing lack of good brushes (and yet here i am still using it)

MOST of the text has been modified using the twilight princess cipher because yeah. i was procrastinating shading. also the other ciphers were in japanese- times shirt is cropped, but reads "its 5 oclock somewhere"

hyrule :D embroidery on his sweatpants because i was struck by whimsy- also i 100% thought his shield was purple tinted for weeks while drawing this because the page i used as reference was set at night, and i was originally basing his sweater on his shield- scrapped the cross pattern after several failed attempts but kept the color ^^

the chips are bbq because im biased (reads "crisps" in twilight princess cipher for no real reason except whimsy)

bless my dearest homie for game reccs because the og plan was to have them all be loz games! titles include wii sports resort, elebits, super mario party, smash bros ultimate, just dance 2016 (its box art is colorful ok), and myth makers orbs of doom (I HATE THIS GAME WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING, as i should, anyways i should play it again). four is suggesting orbs of doom, buddy aint even playing,,,

kinda was hoping to play around with hair colors and skin tones a bit more, but again, see the hour count- ill get em next time surely,,, also blue vs violet eyes for legend already had me in decision paralysis

Nobody seems to understand Legend’s way of caring for others and i’m here to talk about it.

Legend “bickers” with his brothers…a lot..

But on a deeper level he only “bickers” with them because that’s how he shows that he cares for them.

When Twilight was on the verge of dying Legend was very prickly, he kept on arguing with others like Four and Wind for example. But we know that tensions were high during that time, he cares for Twilight, everyone does, but Legend just shows it differently.

When Legend points out to Twilight that Sky will “fall asleep on him” he’s saying he’s worried about him. He knows Sky is competent but that scare with Twilight still left its marks on the others. Legend just wants to make sure that no matter what Twilight will be okay during this dungeon crawl.

When they first enter the dungeon Legend starts to argue with Wild, Wild’s never been in a proper dungeon before and Legends only looking out for him in his own way. But in a way that people see as “petty disputes”

Time seems to think that these are all petty disputes, but in reality it’s just Legend looking out for the others in his own way. He has trouble expressing his emotions properly but with this method he’s able to get his point across quick, with some setbacks of course.

Which brings me to talk about how Hyrule knows how to handle Legend, Time puts them both together for a reason. And Hyrule is WELL aware of this reason as well,

Hyrule knows he’s paired with Legend because 1) he’s just as experienced as Legend is and won’t need to be reprimanded as much, and 2) Hyrule is closest to Legend, therefore he knows how to read him in a sense.

That’s HIS predecessor and he knows that Legend won’t pick fights with him as easily. Hyrule’s a meditator when needed, he’s probably well aware as well that this is Legends way of caring for everyone else. It might be poorly executed sure, but he knows that he means it with all the kindness in his heart.

Sky knows Legend doesn’t hardly mean any of the stuff that he says and Twilight is slowly getting there as well,

Sky KNOWS bullies, Twilight knows bullies as well, they BOTH know Legend isn’t a bully, Twilight is still coming to terms with that because he’s a protector, he takes care of those younger than him and hates to see others get bullied.

Legend by definition isn’t a bully, he just has a different way of caring for others and someday the others will see that as well.

I wanted to do a scar chart for my boys, not only to know where scars are, but also to figure out body types! I struggle a lot with unique body types so this is a challenge, but that’s fine! Challenges are good.

With Sky, I wanted him to have a more softer but strong look to him. He’s very strong in the game, so his arms are pretty toned. But he has some tummy cuz he just doesn’t care about looking toned or anything. He does what he wants. He has a lot of various scars here and there, but the biggest one is from his battle with demise.

Minish is a blacksmith and is very strong with his arms and chest. He’s short but he’s very toned. A lot of his major scars come from Vaati.

Time is the strongest on the team. He’s tall, he’s buff, he’s done farm and ranch work for the past 10 years, he’s terrifying. Idk what happened to his head but pls ignore how small it is. The sketch made his head really big so I shrunk it so he’d still look tall and now he looks ridiculous 😔 [EDIT: I can’t take it anymore. I had to change his head size. It looks normal now] he doesn’t have a lot of scars from his actual adventures. His body traveled back in time but his mind stayed in place, so a lot of injuries that would scar didn’t. The only scars he has is from his final battle with Majora. All other scars are from his time at lon lon and other scars he got as a kid. Also I gave him my issue with super itchy legs. I have them scars myself UwU

Legend has powerful legs, so they’re much stronger than the rest of his body, but he’s well toned thanks to his sword fighting abilities. I… haven’t played or am familiar with his games save for la so his scars are kinda lame, but let’s just say that he did a good job at keeping big scars from scarring. (This is a half joke but he has a burn scar from Aganhim on his butt. For obvious reasons you can’t see it)

Totem has very strong shoulders and arms thanks for all the totem times he did. So he has a strong upper body. He should probably work on leg day tho. He has two injuries from accidents regarding totem time (falling on his face while being the guy on top and having someone’s boots scuff his shoulder) but he’s a totem master now!

Rift only has rift-shaped markings on his body, and he’s a very lanky kid. He’s a bit toned in his arms and chest thanks to sword fighting but that’s about it. He doesn’t focus that much on his body anyways.

Hyrule is a very small and skinny kid, with some muscle showing on his arms thanks to swords fighting. But generally he’s small, which is good for him cuz that makes hiding easier. A lot of scars from his first adventure.
