The Miley Cyrus / Flowers lawsuit is such a testament to why intellectual property for music should not be bought and sold like some kind of stock market or real estate investment. The literal writers of Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man, including Bruno Mars, do not care and do not feel like they were stolen from. They haven’t felt that way for the 3 entire years the song has been out.
So tell me why the fuck this random ass multi billion dollar media conglomerate that’s now acquired the song is trying to sue Miley and get her to never perform her biggest hit and greatest career achievement ever again, to pull it from streaming, etc, when the writers themselves DO NOT CARE??? Art is not some kind of trading card esque asset for corporations to rip each other apart over. It’s art, made by people. Art pays homage to other art (if it is referencing When I Was Your Man, that’s what it’s doing, for transformative artistic reasons). The dangers of art being bought and sold like this will become more apparent over the years as this keeps going on and honestly it’s scary and makes me SO fearful of the negative impacts it will inevitably have on music and creativity, especially because as powerful as we think artists are, they are literally nothing compared to billion dollar shareholder corporations.

Very rarely I'll (accidentally) find someone who's blocked me on pokemon tumblr, and realistically I know that they probably saw one of my posts too many times and just got sick of seeing it or I simply annoy them or whatever. But part of me really wants to believe that my pokemon anime opinions were just too much for someone. I want to believe that someone saw me say 'The absol scene needed better build-up to justify Drew talking to one of his pokemon like that, it goes against everything we've seen of him imo' or whatever and they just put a hand over their heart, wounded, and clicked the block button while cursing my family for several generations, past and future. I really want to think that I had a lukewarm enough drew opinion that someone blocked me about it

Friend & Friend
kami Tama (MALICE MIZER) (CASCADE)
— You went to the beach, right? On the MALICE MIZER boat, right? — Tama
Tama: And then we stayed at some weird kind of pension.
kami: Yeah, it was like a strange pension-type place.
— Has it been a long time since you last saw Tama?
kami: It's been a while. We used to meet up often.
Tama: Yeah, it’s not like we planned it, but we used to run into each other a lot.
kami: We used to do nothing but bad things (laughs).
Tama: Right? (laughs)
— What kind of bad things?
kami: I can't say (laughs).
Tama: Can't say (laughs).
— It’s fine, the statute of limitations is up by now (laughs)!
Tama: We smoked incense (laughs).
kami: Yeah, we smoked incense (laughs).
— Incense!?
Tama: There was some kind of incense from India or somewhere...
— Real incense?
Tama: Yeah. We were like, "If we smoke this, we can trip, right?!" and we all smoked it (laughs).
kami: Yeah, yeah (laughs).
Tama: But all it did was make our throats hurt, we couldn’t trip at all (laughs).
— That’s obvious (laughs)!
Tama: And then we went to the beach, right?
kami: We did!
— Who did you go with?
kami: With Tama-chan, közi, me, and Kou...
Tama: Back then, we had a friend named Kou.
— Did you suddenly decide to go after drinking?
kami: No, Tama-chan arranged everything for us.
Tama: Yeah, we went on the MALICE MIZER boat.
kami: And we stayed at some weird pension-type place.
Tama: It was more like a lodge than a pension, though (laughs). But the dinner was delicious, right?
kami: It was great!
Tama: We ate until we were stuffed. And back then, I still had long hair, so I coolly jumped into the ocean and played beach volleyball with some gals.
kami: Yeah, you did! And then Kou, that friend of ours, was doing this thing called the “Kou-bar Head Kick!” It was hilarious (laughs).
Tama: I don’t think the people around us thought it was funny at all (laughs). But it was a good memory. At one point, when everyone was partying and making noise at night, I went outside and disappeared for about two hours.
— What were you doing?
Tama: What was I doing? I was probably staring at the sea. It was around the time I had just left my previous band, so I was probably caught up in self-loathing, thinking, “What am I doing with my life?” But since my hair was long, I kept getting hit on by all kinds of people (laughs).
kami: We should go again!
Tama: We were saying, "Let’s go again next year!" and making plans.
— Let’s make it happen this summer! Vicious can cover the cost (laughs).
(Vicious: Sure! By Vicious)
kami: Oh yeah, remember we drank at Shinjuku West Gate Park? It was me, the members of CASCADE, and közi.
Tama: Oh yeah, we did!
— Why were you drinking in the park?
Tama: Back when CASCADE still didn’t have much of an audience, kami and közi came to one of our shows, and we had the afterparty in Shinjuku West Gate Park. That’s when I handed over our demo tape.
kami: And that's when I learned the song "KILL ME STOP."
Tama: That song's pretty good, right?
kami: Yeah. I thought it was really interesting.
— Did you have a feeling back then that "this band is going to make it"?
kami: There were two songs on the demo tape, and while it was different from Tama-chan's previous band, I definitely had a feeling about it.
Tama: Come on (laughs)!
kami: It’s true! I was happy when I saw you doing well on "Ebisu Onsen" (a music show that served as a stepping stone for new bands; CASCADE made their debut thanks to it).
— Hold on! The conversation is starting to get serious (laughs)!
kami: What’s wrong with that?
— This isn't that kind of corner (laughs). So, how are things with the ladies lately?
kami: Ahahahaha (laughs).
Tama: Kami is pretty proactive, isn’t he?
kami: You think so?
Tama: More like animalistic than proactive (laughs). But that’s what I like about you (laughs).
— That’s not what you said during your previous interview with SHUSE (laughs)!
kami: Well, going major made me a bit more negative.
Tama: So you’ve been thinking negatively about a lot of things?
kami: Yeah, recently.
Tama: When you debut as a major artist, you tend to become mentally unstable. I went through that too.
kami: It’s not so much instability. When you're indie, the band feels like home, but when it turns into a job, it becomes something different.
— I see.
kami: I started thinking, "Where is my home now?"
— Well, it’s obviously in a girl's chest (laughs)!
Tama: Speaking of that, how's your relationship with your high school girlfriend?
— We broke up! And two days before Valentine’s Day, no less!
Tama: That’s because you were cheating all the time (laughs)!
— Shut up (laughs)! Tama-chan, are you the type who gets dumped?
Tama: I haven’t been dumped much.
— So are you the one who does the dumping?
Tama: Not really that either. It’s more like things just naturally fizzle out.
kami: Same here!
Tama: It sounds terrible to say you’re just waiting for the right time, but you can kind of tell, right?
— You both start feeling like, "It’s probably about time"?
Tama: Yeah, you wait for that moment.
— That’s awful (laughs)!
Tama: Yeah, I guess I’m awful (laughs)! But in my school days, I used to get dumped all the time.
— Were you always going after girls who were out of your league?
Tama: Not at all, I’ve always had a really wide strike zone.
kami: Ahahahaha (laughs)!
Tama: My first experience was with someone quite a bit older.
kami: Really?
Tama: Really.
— How old were you?
Tama: I was 17.
— And the other person?
Tama: She was quite a bit older.
— In a way, that’s kind of enviable!
Tama: When was your first time, kami?
kami: I was 17 too. But mine was with a girl a year younger than me.
— I was also 17, and she was a year younger than me.
kami: We’re the same then!
— Want to hear about it?
kami: What is it?
— I used to commute by train, and one day, this girl suddenly gave me a love letter.
kami: That’s great!
Tama: Was she cute?
— She was super cute!
kami: That’s really great!
— So we started dating, and I gave her my virginity. But after a while, she suddenly said, “I’m getting married,” and when I told her, “I’m not ready for that yet,” she said, “It’s not you. I’ve been seeing someone else too.” I was like, "Gah!"
kami: Oh no!
— Turns out she had been dating a 23-year-old guy, and about a week later, she quit school and really got married.
kami: Oh no!
— I want my virginity back!
kami: Ahahahaha (laughs)!
Tama: That must’ve been a shock, right?
— It was a huge shock!
Tama: The first girl I dated also cheated on me. Her name was Miki. You can write that down!
kami: Ahahahaha (laughs)!
Tama: Miki cheated on me. We started dating when I was in the second year of middle school, and she was my first kiss, but she’d also been dating this guy since the fourth grade. His name was Tanabe!
kami: Ahahahaha (laughs)!
Tama: You know how, in middle school, when you start dating someone, rumors spread fast? So my friends started saying, “Hey, I heard she has a boyfriend. They’ve been dating since the fourth grade!” So I asked her directly.
— You asked Miki (laughs)?
Tama: Yeah, I asked her, “Miki, do you like me?” “I do.” “Do you like Tanabe?” “I do.” “So, who do you like more, me or Tanabe?” “Tanabe.” (laughs).
kami: Gya-hahaha (laughs)!
Tama: Right after that, we went on a school trip, but for me, it was a heartbroken trip.
kami: Gya-hahaha (laughs)!
— When was your first kiss, kami?
kami: I was really focused on my band until my first year of high school. I didn’t even look at girls; I was just drumming all the time. But in my second year, I started paying attention to the opposite sex and ended up dating someone.
— What was her name?
kami: Maki (laughs).
Tama: Was she cute?
kami: Yeah, she was cute. But, to be honest, she was kind of a delinquent. She had a lot of guy friends, and I couldn’t trust her, so we broke up.
Tama: You seem to like delinquent girls, right? The ones with brown hair and a bit rebellious?
kami: I like Nanase Aikawa (laughs). I once dated a full-on delinquent girl. A friend of mine brought her to one of our live shows, and I guess she liked me because she called me up and asked, “Would you go out with me?” I couldn’t say no, so I said, “Sure!” (laughs). Then I went to her house, and there were all these gang flags and tons of pictures of motorcycles. I thought, “Nope, this isn’t for me!” and broke up with her right away (laughs).

House of The Dragon Incorrect Quotes (w/. Reader) - Roast Edition (slightly NSFW)
YN: Aegon they could never make me hate you.
Aegon: Awe baby thank you.
YN: I mean I probably should hate you. And Gods they've tried. But they won't make me hate you.
Aegon: ? Thank you? As tears roll down his face.
Aemond: I adore everything about you.
YN: Aww love, that's so kind.
Aemond: Yeah I just needed you to know that so I can tell you all the ways you irritate me.
YN: Oh.
Helaena: Daeron you're my favorite brother.
Aemond: I get Aegon being below Daeron but about me?
Helaena: You were number one until you went all psycho killer now you're at a comfy number two.
Rhaenyra: This is my sweet sister Helaena. She is perfect and amazing and I love her angelic self.
Helaena: Love you Nyra.
Rhaenyra: And these are the three monsters that are my father's sons. I only tolerate them on holidays after a large bottle of wine.
Aemond, Aegon, and Daeron: All they wanted to know was how your trip was Rhaenyra damn.
YN: You're totally hot, you could so get women if you had more confidence. Forget that you are a dragon obsessed freak with no understanding of the concept of "statute of limitations" some girls like trying to fix men.
Aemond: I asked you to marry me.
YN: You would make such a great himbo. Be my himbo, Jacey.
Jace: I'll be your anything. He says as he looks at YN with literal heart eyes.
Aemond: He gets himbos are seen as stupid, right?
Jacaerys: Do you think YN would like this on me?
Aemond: No, which prepares one well for the disappointment under your clothes.
Jacaerys: Unless you're going on this date, or YN thinks six is bigger than nine, I doubt there will be much room for disappointment.

Thanks so much for your writeup of the 2 Stupid 2 Sanction case. OMG.
As a reference librarian in a special library (i.e. not an academic or public library), the database access of this case has been -fascinating- to me. I regularly struggle with the challenge of how to provide access to materials to my patrons, when we have limited access and an even more limited budget. This case is an absolutely TEXTBOOK in what NOT to do.
Regarding the apparently wonky access to different categories of cases in Fastcase, I can provide a little professional insight, as I have spent FAR too many hours trying to decipher database providers' pricing guidelines. (But, DISCLAIMER: I am not a law librarian and hold my colleagues who are in absolute awe. So I don't have any direct experience with the database in question, just 15+ years of trying to wrangle these kinds of databases in general.)
It is conceivable that Fastcase could be setup in such a way that Schwartz et al. had access to ALL of the 2nd Circuit cases and some of the 5th Circuit cases. Research databases are nearly always broken out into "collections" and you can often pick and choose which collections you have access to, depending on how much money you fork over. I have absolutely seen instances where content I expected to be in one such collection was actually found in another (looking at you, Oxford Scholarly Editions…). This can happen for a variety of reasons: when the content was acquired by the database provider, what kind of distribution rights they were able to secure, or even who was doing the ingesting of that content.
None of which are relevant for Fastcase.
Acquisition and distribution rights are a non-issue for case law (particularly US Federal case law), and the inherent nature of the structure of the court system creates pre-made "collections" for the database to be organized into.
This is supported by Fastcase's own website. On their "Coverage" page, they helpfully break out the different content that they can provide access to into exactly the manner that you would expect. Each Court has its own "bucket" of content, starting from the Supreme Court and working our way down through more and more specialized courts.
So the idea that Schwartz would have access to some of the 5th Circuit cases, but not all? Pretty laughable. They should all be in the same "collection", where you'd either have access to ALL or NONE. It's hard to conceive of it as anything other a binary setup.
It gets even more laughable when you look at Fastcase's helpful Pricing Plans page.
They helpfully breakdown the content that each subscription plan would have access to. Their "Appellate Plan" (the cheapest) provides access to US Supreme Court, US Court of Appeals, and State Supreme & Appellate Court decisions and to "Nationwide Statutes, Regulations, Court Rules & More". Their "Premium Plan" and "Enterprise Plan" both provide access to all of this, PLUS US District and Bankruptcy Court decisions.
(Side note: As database pricing goes, this really is Not Bad. They seem to be making good on their claim to try to provide broader access and tools for legal research.)
Now, the scope of access for a subscriber level probably isn't set in stone; database providers can be remarkably flexible about what they provide access to if it means making a sale vs not. So despite the fact that on their public-facing information page, they give the appearance that a subscriber would get access to ALL Federal Appeals cases, it is certainly conceivable that the Firm negotiated access to ONLY 2nd Circuit cases.
But then how would they have access to ANY 5th Circuit cases?
No, it's far more likely that they had access to everything. And again, it's hard to comprehend how an "error in billing" would lead to partial access. It's generally a binary setup: either you have access to everything in your subscription, or you have access to none of it.
I'm gonna call shenanigans on the "billing error" argument as well.
And all of this is completely aside from the fact that, as you've noted several times, YOU CAN JUST GOOGLE FEDERAL CASES WTIH A REASONABLE EXPECTATION OF SOMETHING USEFUL COMING UP. (There's a whole other discussion of why these cases exist in subscription databases at all, having to do with metadata and search frameworks and site functionality, but that's another whole long thing and this is already far too long as is.)
(As as side note, whoever has written the training documentation (https://go.fastcase.com/teachingfastcase) for Fastcase deserves a goddamned medal. The line "Parentheses are the Marie Kondo of Boolean Operators: Here to bring you joy and sort similar things in similar locations." made me laugh for 5 minutes straight. I'm still giggling about it.)
Thank you for this fantastic writeup of this issue!
This was so much good information (and dam, yes, that documentation is delightful), and I don't have anything substantive to add.
If I may indulge in some brief speculation, if I had to bet on what actually happened, here is what I suspect: the Firm didn't have access to the federal Fastcase database at all (I think this because it would be such a stupid and pointless thing for the Firm representative to lie about, otherwise). But it may have been less of "billing error" and more of a, "we're not going to bother to pay for that, we are never in federal court." However, once he got the Court's order to annex the cases, he got access somehow - maybe someone else at the firm had access, or he had a friend with access, or he did actually go to a bar association library, or whatever. And that's how he downloaded the real opinions. (I think this because it seems like the simplest explanation, and it explains why he/they are so cagey about how he actually go the opinions. Because if had full access, it shatters his excuse that he thought the "opinions" were real because he couldn't check them in another source "because he didn't have a database with access to the federal reporters available.")
(But I want to know! Especially with what you've just laid out, I want to shake everyone involved until the truth falls out!)

I love how much effort you put into researching for each of your fics. You have talked a little about this before, but could you share some fun facts about your fic researching?
Sure! Let's see...
So I mentioned the ketchup research, but for the Lady's Liaison I spent more time looking up Regency facts than I did creative writing. For instance, I was originally going to have them run for the coast in a private carriage the whole way, but then I was like, "No, I'd better check." So I spent probably an hour or more reading up on Regency modes of travel, and then also to see whether there would be possible boat routes to get to Scotland, because I wanted it to be plausible for Jean to believe that they might sail there instead of going over land. I also looked up Regency outerwear and undergarments to ensure that they were undressing each other in the most historically accurate way possible.
For Little Mice, besides reading the book on the topic, I searched old newspaper articles on the Boston Molasses flood, read up on racism against Asians (and Italians) during the early 20th century, miscegenation laws, Italian anarchists, typical courtship and honeymoon traditions, etc. I also found a website with a transcript of an old document by a social worker of the period going over what a typical Italian immigrant family ate in a day. For that little bit at the end when Eren and Mikasa are talking about what to get at the lunch counter, I looked up old restaurant menus of the time period to see what kinds of meals they could order.
For my cabin fic that I don't like to talk about I watched several videos about traditional salt production.
For Clueless Teens I watched several videos about how to use a Ouija board to commune with spirits and did some reading on runes and rune magic (although I forgot most of what I learned).
For Anamnesis... Oh boy. I was looking up how to destroy DNA evidence, what kind of bullets could cause the kind of injuries I was picturing for the characters who got shot (it's hollow points. If you want the bullet to be doing significant, explosive damage, you want a hollow point or one of those illegal butterfly bullets). I also looked up the statute of limitations for different crimes, whether you could survive a slit throat, what kinds of injuries would necessitate stitches (to make sure it was reasonable for Mikasa to have gotten stitches on her hands without having any significant damage to her muscles that would require PT), different kinds of scarring, gubernatorial term limits... I tried reading up on quantum theory but the scientific articles I found were all a bit over my head, so I figured I'd just have to go on vibes for that one. I've read plenty of fiction books featuring quantum universes so I was just like, "I won't stray too far from the typical rules and won't get into the theory. I should be fine."
Let's see if I can think of any other research I've done. I don't know, I am often popping over to google to look something up when I write, so it just kind of blends together. I've been looking up developmental milestones a lot for the single parents au to make sure what I'm describing is accurate, such as Eren's daughter being bad at jumping and how many words she should use in sentence lol. Of course, some of that info is based on my own parenting experiences, but it's been a while since my kid was 3.
I'm not sure those are fun facts, actually. So, here we go:
Historically, there are multiple types of ketchup. Mushroom, walnut, tomato, anchovy (I believe), and sometimes you can still find the lesser known versions. In the Philippines (?) they have, I want to say, banana ketchup. It was originally a fermented fish sauce from China and ketchup or catsup is the anglicized version of the original name (which I cannot remember). Ketchup was a popular condiment in Regency England.
You can "make" your own salt by collecting sea water and boiling it in a pot until all the water is gone, leaving just the sediment behind.
Keloid scars are not the only type of protruding scars. Hypertrophic scars also heal incorrectly so that they kind of bubble from the skin, however unlike with keloids these scars are soft, typically fade from pink to blend in better with your skin, and often will flatten out somewhat over time. Some people are gentically disposed towards keloid scarring and I want to say it is more common on certain parts of the body but I can't remember what exactly those parts are.
In the late 1800s and the early 1900s, the newer, Western states were the ones that had laws against interracial marriage because they included them when they took on statehood. In the East, despite being equally racist, they did not tend to have laws against interracial marriage because the original state founders did not anticipate it would become a "problem". I just find that interesting, since the West Coast is supposed to be so liberal, but look at how they started.
There are only three Japantowns left in the US and they are all located in California.
Regency men's shirts did not have buttons all the way down. They were more like tunics, so a solid panel over the belly and then perhaps buttons at the top over the chest. I can't entirely remember, but I know because of it I nixed a scene I'd been thinking of where Mikasa rips Eren's shirt off and the buttons fly everywhere, then later we see her sewing them back on lol.

look i think they should just say it if they want to but also if it's something so unserious like the cuck manifesto maybe it's good they shut it up but why even bring it up? as fun as punz siting on the cuck chair was, no one wants the sequel if it's not serious or an actual crime
exactly my point here. if it's unserious enough to get all of twitter clowning on you then it's not worth bringing up imo.
"Oh Dream stole my last cupcake once!" is not appropriate things to bring up in this context, neither is other shit that just kind of makes the dteam look like trash friends. Genuinely I don't gaf if the dteam are all bad friends with one another or whatever the fuck, I'm concerned about someone being dangerous.
And in the case that it's an actual crime, go to the law. Get legal shit involved. Twitter is not the place to talk about whether or no someone is guilty of a crime when that needs to be taken up with authorities. The justice system sucks and ACAB but TWITTER is not the space to try and serve justice.
If it IS serious and IS NOT a crime (or it's passed the statute of limitations for the crime or it can't be prosecuted as a crime but is considered one (ie, how women can't be prosecuted for rape in some countries)) then yeah, sure, share stories or whatever. Talk about it, build community, whatever.

i hate times up me and all my homies hate times up
also gonna throw the janitor always mops twice in here cuz i wanna hear u talk abt it. disappointment central right there
Oh boy. Disagree. I like BOTH those episodes. Sorry, I know you wanted hate but I can only give love.
I will explain myself.
Times Up: I actually in my drafts have a huge essay about Times Up half finished that I hope to finish some day soon because I have so many thoughts about it but for this post I will try and keep it brief. Key word being TRY as I could talk for days about Times Up haha.
I get a lot of people hate it for shipping reasons but if you take a step back from that it's a really good episode about sexual assault imo. (tw for discussions about fictional sexual assault and how the episode comments on real assault ahead)
The fact that the episode takes place in a sexual assault seminar about workplace sexual harassment highlights the fact that the gang are all coworkers, reminding the audience that that adds a specific dynamic to the ways the gang treat one another, even as lifelong friends. Now, I will talk about the shipping more in that essay I'm writing, but for now I want to talk about the episode outside of that. Each character represents a different version of sexual harassment/assault.
Mac is careless, doing things like lifting Dee into the air by her crotch or trying to kiss Dennis not because he wants to harm either of them, but because he does things without thinking a lot of the time and is very impulsive (which is very in character for him imo!). But regardless of his motivation, those two things are still both sexual harassment.
Charlie thinks he stalked (is it actually canon that he stopped stalking her after they slept together or does he still do it? that was always unclear to me) The Waitress as a sign of love, as a lot of stalkers do. Again, something that's been very consistent with his character. But just like with Mac, his motivation doesn't matter, his actions do.
Frank is of course our stereotypical Quid Pro Quo case, more obviously in your face about the way he harmed women who worked under him at his old company. I get why some wouldn't find the way they use that for comic relief funny, but I personally like the way they handle it--there's never a doubt in anyone's mind that Frank hurt those women, and the joke is always on Frank finally feeling the heat he deserves for what he did to them and not on the victims. It doesn't matter that that was "what the times were like back that", Frank deserves to at the very least feel shitty for what he did. His part also highlights exactly why some states want to get rid of statute of limitation laws--which yeah! They should get rid of them! Because of the exact reason the episode shows--just because it happened years ago doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Dee spends the whole episode on her high horse because she sees the issue as a women vs men issue (as a lot of people do!) and doesn't think that she could ever possibly be persecuted since she's a woman. But that doesn't matter--she's still canonically assaulted multiple men! And I know some people don't like that they had it be that she raped Charlie specifically but I think it was a good writing decision. Here me out. The vast majority of rape is perpetrated by family members or close friends, because those are most often the people who are close enough to us to cause that kind of harm and manipulate victims into staying quiet. The reveal that Dee raped Charlie is another hard hitting point the episode is making about SA--that you can be friends with someone, even have romantic chemistry with them, but that doesn't excuse raping them. Even if, as in Dee's case, she didn't really think about what she was doing or conceptualize it as rape until it was pointed out to her. The point is that none of the characters THINK they are perpetrators, that they all have reasons and excuses that justify the things they do (just like real life perpetrators always have some sort of internal reason justifying their actions), but that doesn't change the facts of what they did. If the fact that all the characters are perpetrators to some degree makes you comfortable--good! It should! It's trying to challenge perceptions about assault, challenge the idea of what a victim looks like, what a perpetrator looks like, how the same person can be both a victim and a perpetrator, and to show how normalized assault is in the gang's lives and in society in general.
Now, savvy readers may have noticed I haven't mentioned Dennis yet. And that's because I think a lot of people misunderstand the way Dennis is being used in this episode, so I wanted to lay the groundwork for his section first. A lot of people dislike that Dennis is the one to point out the flaws of the others and the fact that Dennis is the one who set up the seminar when he's the worst of them all but--that's kind of the point. Dennis commits serial sexual assault and is able to get away with it because he cloaks himself in the progressive language of the MeToo movement and falsifies evidence. Dennis is the most dangerous of all because unlike the others, he DOES understand consent, he is FULLY AWARE that what he's doing is assault and therefor knows exactly what he needs to do to legally hide it. Dennis is NOT supposed to be in the right here. Like the audience surrogates (the people hired to teach the seminar), we are supposed to think Dennis is an idiot and kind of terrifying, not agree with everything he says just because he knows which words to use.
A lot of people call this episode "wildly out of character" but I don't understand that at all--it follows up on things which have been previously established with each character. The whole point is that the world is changing, they can't keep treating people and each other the way they do and keep expecting to get away with it. Even for someone like Dennis who has a whole system of manipulation and all these practiced ways not to get caught Time. Is. UP! The point is that, while Dennis may be better at getting away with shit than the others, that doesn't mean he's safe and that's a good thing. It feels very hopeful to me. And yeah I think it's funny. I know that's very subjective so I don't really know how to explain beyond "it makes me hahaha".
Mops Twice: I'm not sure why this episode would be considered "disappointing" (I'd love to know why you describe it that way!) because I think it's super fun. I love the references to the way old films were edited and shot, I love the whole grey-scale with red thing the episode has going on--it gives it a very unique flavor. I love the costumes, I love the way Charlie's narration is written like he's a detective in an old serial. I love the twist that The Waitress is running things and poisoning people It's so girlboss of her and one of the most fun things they've done with her character imo. I know people don't like that The Waitress is flirty with Charlie, but that's because the episode is from Charlie's perspective, it's how he interprets their probably not at all actually flirty interactions. Plus this episode is just really funny to me. My wife and I quote "bleach, the universal poison antidote" at each other all the time. I love Charlie focused episodes and this is no exception. And I love when they do new and more out there things like this too. I think it's part of what gives the series it's personality and I love it.

talking about stuff with my dad below
I wish I knew more details about what happened to make him be investigated now. I only know that my mom told bri that she got a call from the cops and that she told them what happened to me. I talked to my brother yesterday and he told me that when I was a teenager he talked to a therapist about what happened to me and that the therapist said that they would have to make a report but I don't know if this is from that because that had to have been a decade ago. it feels like I don't have any closure until I know the full story and I don't know if I'm gonna get that.
if he really did abuse other kids I have no idea who it could be and that scares me...he did music lessons for older kids when I was younger but the most obvious victims I can think of are my brothers daughters. I do know that my brother isn't allowed to see their mom anymore so I was hoping that happened long enough ago that my dad wouldn't be involved but...I just don't know...its really scary. I'm trying to be strong but how am I supposed to do anything normal? its like as soon as I'm not getting active stimuli my brain goes immediately to this, like there's a high chance that I'm gonna be contacted to give testimony and I just...ow...
people are telling me that it's not my fault but it feels so much like my fault...I was so scared of everything and I didn't want to make a report. I just wanted him to go away so bad. I didn't know that you can make CSA reports against people up till your 40s I genuinely thought the statute of limitations was well over. I keep imagining his other victims hating me for not doing anything to stop him...it hurts so much in my heart and I don't know how I'm supposed to go on.
I loved my dad so much when I was a kid. between him and my mom I was much more deeply connected to him and the majority of any positive childhood memories I have are with him. my favorite games, toys, places, everything involves him. Its so hard for me to imagine him as evil still, it's hard not to see what happened in that child's view of the world...and I keep being like, well I wasn't scared or upset when it happened so why should I feel so bad? and thinking that just makes it worse.
I just want some kind of closure on whats going on...

i get what a lot of them mean because looking at and commenting on boobs could be seen as sexual harassment, but i don't think it's on the scale that people are implying. it's certainly an uncomfortable experience, but i think considering the times and everything that we should be able to be rightfully mad at the past behaviour, but also allow him to change and grow. it's fucking annoying sometimes that twitter doesn't have any statutes of limitations, because some of this stuff that they dig up should really be re-evaluated in a light that allows the person to change and grow rather than punishing them regardless of what happens. like when i was a kid, there were a lot of things that i didn't understand, so i didn't like it. for a brief period when i was too young to fully understand, i acted homophobic. by twitter logic, i'm a horrible person but hey it turns out i am queer. growing and changing is a part of human nature, and while there are things that you shouldn't be able to recover from, i think that we should be more realistic with it and remain neutral in situations like this until a court case. i saw a post a while ago where basically it went "blog 1: cops shouldn't be allowed to shoot a person when arresting them; blog 2: unless they're rapists or pedos; blog 1: no! regardless of the crime, they deserve due process of law". twitter is not due process of law.
sorry. i get heated about this shit.
Obviously that kind of behavior can make someone uncomfortable, but it does really upset me that people liken it to sexual assault. That kind of rhetoric is problematic and possibly even dangerous. I do think that Jack’s ~character~ back in the beginning was the goofy, horny doofus and he felt like he had to embody that character. He’s really grown from that and while I don’t condone commenting on peoples’ bodies, I do think he was playing a character. I think Twitter is just a fucking hellscape of hive minded, faceless and nameless people and I try to avoid it for actual ~news~ especially bandom stuff.

Jesus Christ, this fucking old-ass pile of horseshit post. Rape is usually not a "stranger-danger" kind of crime, you're more likely to know your rapist, so how does this 20 year old fucking post help with that? When you divorce your partner and they decide to come to your house and rape and kill you and your kids and then themselves because they can't stand that they don't have the power and control in the relationship anymore? I got this email in the early aughts and SURPRISE! The email hasn't changed and rapes haven't stopped. Didn't stop Brock Turner, didn't stop Johnny Depp, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, D. Trump or any of the others. Just like active shooter drills in schools don't stop children from having their insides splattered all over school walls because one person who wanted to feel powerful and in control went out and decided to shoot them all that day doesn't stop it from happening. Putting it on the victims doesn't work. Marginalized communties already know to be aware of their surroundings, to be careful, to be aware, etc. That's part of the socialization of children. Why don't we try putting it on the perpertrators for once? Increase the statute of limitations on rape, work to incorporate the understanding of coercive control and abusive relationships into our justice system; especially family courts so people don't have to stay in contact with their abuser just because they have a kid together. Strengthen gun laws so that it makes it harder for abusers to get them. That also requires fully funding the ATF so they can actually stop bad buyers and sellers from selling guns to people they shouldn't. Repeal the law that George W. signed that makes it harder to sue gun manufacters. Make a new law that bans automatic weapons for public purchase. Stop dignifying the people who commit mass atrocities with having their name and face everywhere, they don't deserve to be remembered or recognized. Focus the stories on the victims. Reform the prison system. Stop the school to prison pipeline. Work to provide education programs without caps on them in jails to lower violence and stop offenders from becoming more violent in prison and then released back onto the streets with no support system and expected to become a functioning member of society again. Legalize abortion so people aren't forced into carrying a child they don't want because an abuser sabotaged the birth control to try and trap their victim and make it harder to leave. Teach comprehensive sex ed and not abstinence. Teach kids about consent from an early age. If they don't wanna hug a family member don't make them. Teach them to ask before hugging someone else. It's as simple and age-appropriate as that. Stop banning books so people can learn about all this stuff, and leave Drag Queens and Queers alone, we're not that obsessed with your kids, but you should teach them to question authority because you know who gravitates to those positions of power, trust, and authority? Abusers. Cops. Doctors. Priests. Teachers. So what good does this fucking post do me or anyone else who gets pulled over on some shitty pretext and gets raped by a genuine cop? Get them arrested for "resisting arrest" or "assaulting an officer" after I elbow their face for shoving their hand down my pants? Defund the police and focus on community outreach programs that help people in the community and de-escalate situations before violence can result. This isn't a victim's problem, this is society's problem. So let's get to work on fixing these problems so we can stop fear-mongering with useless boogeyman rape creepypastas and start living in a better world we're working to create. And in the meantime, you know, actually help people.
THROUGH A RAPIST’S EYES” (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. It may save a life, It may save your life.)
An Article from Neena Susan Thomas
“Through a rapist’s eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interview…ed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.
3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.
6] Number three is public restrooms.
7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.
8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.
10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.
POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.
2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh – HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.
5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.
6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ….
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.
If u have compassion reblog this post. ‘Helping hands are better than Praying Lips’ – give us your helping hand.

Okokokokok- my vote goes to my boi Phoenix bc... why not???
If you have seen anything related to Ace Attorney, you would know that the cases he handles are on most ocasions INSANE and take WILD ASS TURNS when they seem to be straight forward and simple. Now, he could probably tackle this in like three days, if we consider the in-game statute of limitations (aka why you as the player have to defend your client ASAP). This guy could absolutely find the truth in that time at max, but in case the statute of limitations doesn't apply in the courts of the Death Note universe*, the whole investigation could end up extending to around six months to a whole year. I say this because every game, individually, takes place in less than a year. Which is the amount of time in which the over-arching plot of each game gets to be resolved, meaning that it escalates over every individual case until all the relevant info is out.
I've seen some of the reblogs point out that, given his status as a defense attorney, he would have to defend someone accussed wrongly of the murders to actually get involved in all of this. BUT!!! That's not strictly necessary, bc on ocasions he wanders into these kinds of situations and becomes involved either way. ALSO, maybe, just maybe, he could end up defending the actual culprit or an acomplice or someone who's covering up for the people directly involved in the crimes. If so, Phoenix would find out eventually and do EVERYTHING in his power to make sure they're found guilty of the string of murders (given that his hands aren't tied for the sake of protecting his friends and loved ones, on which case he would have to stall for time and wait for an opening to reveal the truth).
Another argument pointed out is that Phoenix Wright is a well known name, at least in the legal world, which would INMEDIATLY endanger his life (see: getting his name written on the damn notebook). While that is true, I have to point out that he's kinda inmune to injury. To mention one hell of an example, this is the guy who FELL down a bridge that was ON FIRE and onto a river with a CURRENT SO STRONG that should have both killed him and made the recovery of his body from the water an imposibility, AND YET not only HE SURVIVED, but he also only got a cold from it. ONLY. A FUCKING. COLD. FROM IT. Like, that's the most prominent example of the few injuries per se that he received through the games. So yeah, he kinda relies on dumb luck not only to win cases (something very important to note), but also to avoid severe damage to his physical health to an extremely bad estate.
*Red from OSP voice* So... yeah!
*Also, I'd like to mention that I know very little about what the show's about, so take this analysis with a grain of salt. I just came across this poll and went "hmmmm... I don't really know any of the options except for the funny lawyer, so I think he could take a shot at this and win!"
Please reblog to increase data size. Please also add how long you think it would take and why.

Not that it was okay and not that I said it (my friends were black and would have kicked my ass) but especially with scene kids for a long time the n-word was just treated like a swear word not a slur, even in like scene kid music white artists were saying the N-word like it was normal and saying "its okay if it ends with and 'a'". Im also from an area where people use it colloquially a lot even ones who shouldn't so until I took some sociology and black studies classes in college I really didn't see it as any different than any other swear word but still knew better than to use it because it upset my friends. But we also used to joke around racially, my black friend would call me a "cracker prag" and tell me to hold her pocket in the hallways as a joke and id tell her she only got 3/5ths of a vote when we were trying to decide on a movie like 15 year olds joking around with each other should not be held to the same standards as somebody making a speech to get into office.
Also there needs to be a statute of limitations on this kind of shit, anything farther back than 2 years and it should be assumed that the person learned better and corrected themselves. I don't stand by everything i believed 2 years ago. Ive had this blog for over half a decade, the person posting in 2020 is not the same person who is posting in 2024, im sure ive said plenty of fucked up shit and cold takes that people are going to love digging up if my writing ever gets big but like I also have BPD my opinion on subjects can change drastically and quickly based on the conversation and setting.
I also have OSDD and not all my alters believe the same about things (ash is a bleeding heart who cries for the state of the world, syd is an edgy cunt who is sickly fascinated with it, sarah is a cold narcissist who wants people to suffer the way she did) like at any given time of day you can ask me my opinion on something and in an hour i might feel completely differently.
Entertainers are not politicians and we need to stop expecting them to be.

Well... I fell down a rabbit hole and It kind of vaguely looks like House Representative Jim Jordan (R - Ohio), may have maybe broken Ohio state law... but it's all kind of bleh. And I'm fairly certain it is past the statute of limitations... if it was even a crime because it matters a lot when he said what. And I can't find it. I can only find conflicting statements, not when they were made so... waste of time really.
I wish I wouldn't hyperfocus, task lock.
I also wish our media would do their job. Because I feel like it is one of those things that should actually be addressed, given everything. Like it should be easy to find something saying, yeah, this looks wrong but we checked, and it's either NOT an issue or isn't an issue anyone can do anything about.
Because turns out he did, at least at some point, claim to be a lawyer in private practice in Ohio. But he was absolutely NOT a lawyer in Ohio. By his own admission he did not meet the legal definition of being a lawyer allowed to practice law in the state of Ohio. AND it is illegal to claim to be a lawyer in Ohio when you're not.
The question is did he ever claim, in the present tense, I AM a lawyer. Which is illegal. Or did he just say later I WAS a lawyer, which I don't think is particularly addressed anywhere.
And I don't particularly know why I care... except that it is a decent explanation for why he seems to not actually know how the law works.
Especially since, as far as I can tell, he got his legal degree through part time night school while he was a state representative in Ohio. Which isn't illegal but also would suggest he maybe didn't do the greatest job in one or the other of those endeavors since that would be a profound amount of work.
