Yeah, that's right, I caved in.

Basically the exact same show except its established lore and setting is more largely inspired by archive compilations of popular vintage arcade games of the 80s and 90s such as Pac-Man’s Arcade Party, as well as the different takes within the sci-fi / fantasy genre by the likes of Wreck-It Ralph, Tron: Legacy, and Infinity Train.

= BACKGROUND (in a nutshell) 💿 =

In an attempt to save their dying business, C&A developed and manufactured the first hybrid arcade game of its own kind that combined other popular arcade games and home console games with virtual reality. However, just as the company’s luck was turning around, numerous lawsuits from game companies by the likes of Nintendo and families were filed against the company for their product, from apparently “ripping-off” Super Mario Bros. in its entirety to causing many children to either inexplicably fall unconscious or suffer from amnesia after the cabinet’s headset was put on. Just then, as C&A announced they’ll be temporarily recalling the product to fix its issues, a shocking discovery was already made by investigators that would soon bring the company to its demise: the game’s AI had gone rogue, and once a human mind dies from losing one of the games in any way, they are either permanently reincarnated as a personified cartoon character of themselves or just straight up die in real-life depending on the outcome.

"Are there any plans to make a full webcomic out of this?" - Uhhhh, mayyybe? I'm not entirely sure, honestly. While there may be a few side comics and artwork from my head I want to get out sometime, I don't really have much plans for this AU that'll be worth telling a full story right now since I feel there is plenty of things that I've yet to figure out and develop in a matter of time, particularly the setting and characters (especially considering the OG show itself has only 2 episodes out as of writing and I only have mobile apps like ibisPaint X to make this all possible at the moment).

"Can I make fanfics and OCs for this AU?" - Of course! I've seen a lot of incredible things from the community, especially in regards to alternate universes, so you're absolutely more than welcome to share whatever's on your mind as long as your heart's in the right place. I can't really guarantee I'll see every bit of it since I do have some personal biz of mine to take care of at any moment, but I'll be happy to reblog them whenever I get the chance. "Are there any canon ships in this AU?" - Yes. Yes, there are. Well, only BunnyDoll (Jax x Ragatha) to be specific. HOWEVER, you are free to ship whoever you want here! PIN TUTORIAL.

So. You want pins of your favorite band/cartoon/oc/funny thing to put on backpacks/jackets/pants BUT you're broke and/or have no means to Acquire Pins. You find yourself thinking must Man do i need to make these???? And the answer is yes. Sadly, one either needs to purchase items to have items or make items to have items. I know, i know. It's unfair. It'll be alright, though. Fear not, beloved internet user, for i have The Easy Solution to Your Problem. For thee. Let me hold your hand passionately.

What you'll need is:

Safety Pins - you can buy them for hella cheap in packages with Many Of Them. I'm probably not from your country so you'll have to look for them yourself online or in a store) Pair of Scissors - for cuttin' Plastic - Any kind as long as it's thick enough. reutilize something that would go to the trash, if you can. I'm using an old fanta bottle i stole from dad's pepper pot from the garden. you could also used those hard ish plastics from boxes too or packages. It doesn't have to be transparent, but that's recommended. Some sort of Glue - I recommend hot glue. I did not, however, have hot glue, so I used a two-part resin for fixing pipes instead. If it works it works. You can use anything as long as it secures the safety pin to the plastic. The Pin Content - I'm using STICKERS. i bought 200 6 months ago and have many left overs. You could also use a drawing you made or a cutout from a magazine and tape it to the plastic with transparent packaging tape.

That's all you need. However, if you'd like to make your life a bit easier, it'd be nice to have in hand:

tape - for tapin' razorblade - for scrapin' pen - for Penin'

See. easy. doesn't need a lot. I must say that since i'm a craftsperson i have More Materials laying about than the average arguably human population, but that's pretty much it.

TLDR: glue Pin Content onto the plastic, glue the safety pin to that next. Pic IDs added.

STEP 1.

Stick the thing you want to pin on the plastic. I'm using stickers, but you can use the non adhesive stuff. You can tape a piece of paper to the plastic with transparent duct tape. Just make sure to leave a margin on all sides.

STEP 2.

turn the plastic sheet around. Mark where the Up part of the sticker is and where you want the safety pins to go. This part is optional, but it helps making sure you're not going to put the pins in the wrong position. I didn't do it on my last batch and they turned out fine.

STEP 3.

Secure the plastic to your work surface using tape to keep it still while you work. Again, optional, but it'll help keep the thing straight if your plastic is bent like mine.

STEP 4.

Scratch the surface of the plastic so whatever gluing method you use actually works. The surface shouldn't be smooth or else it'll be hard to glue. You can use anything to scratch it. I did a criss cross pattern as shown in the picture.

STEP 5.

Glue the pins to the scratched surface.

In my case it was done in two steps since the resin needed time to dry. I made a hard base to secure the pin and waited for two hours for that to dry. Then i put a small layer of resin over the part of the safety pin that doesn't open and waited for it to dry again.

This would be miles easier if you used hot glue. Just hot glue the pin to the plastic, making sure to keep the movable part free.

STEP 6.

Cut the pins! If you taped them to the plastic instead of using premade stickers then make sure to leave more plastic to the sides. so it doesn't fall off. They're done. You now have pins.

If you want to go above and beyond, you can cover the pin with a thin layer of clear nail polish to make it impermeable and more durable, but i'm all out of clear nail polish, so i didn't do it.

Originally Acianne was a boy, but i decided I wanted to have more female characters 2. Heartbreaker had a perfectly good family wife, he only became like this after his wife died trying to save him from a superhero while he was on the job, she was a hero herself, and originally had love based powers, these were passed onto him and strengthened by her spirits love for him, and they were also passed onto Ciero! 3. Heartbreaker had a thing for Aciannes mother as she was very kind and polite to him and reminded him of his late wife, but understandably she had no interest in the man-

4. Cendre's conflict with his parents has been going on MUCH longer than he ever admits in the story and that's why during the spinosaurus thing he was glad he could blame those bruises on the spino 5. Hearts actually used to work at a zoo and was a very important figure in hyena conservation and they've always been his favorite animal! 6. The reason the younger siblings are a bunny, a kitten, and a puppy respectively, is because they're meant to represent the idea of "a future where things are more peaceful and calm" to contrast with their older siblings who are "the hare" (though shes actually just a bunny like her little brother- a tiger and a wolf!

7. Originally Cendre was going to get his powers saving a girl on a merry-go-round that caught on fire in a mall, and the girl he saved became a dear friend of his who went on to get into a fistfight with his parents in the hospital and she had to flee to not get arrested and she was the first person acianne didint kill for comitting a crime in front of her originally 8. Originally Ciero was actually an Ensemble stars oc and he wasn't supposed to go into halcyon at all but i loved his design so much i replaced the oc with another guy and made Ciero his own character : ) 9. Originally Acianne was the only main character, Ciero straight up just took over the entire story honestly, and im glad he did, he really was the heart of it- hehe- pun intended

10. Diamonds sibling group comprises of elemental vibes, her being earth, and her brothers being water, fire, and air. It was the fire sibling that died, and the only one i havent drawn a design for is air! He was killed by acianne while he was frankly, on an utter rampage, he's always had a LOT more energy and a lot less empathy than his siblings and Diamonds always was worried he was going to die.

11. Ciero has been banned from at least one craft store for "musical antics" and "unconsensually ballroom dancing with a mannequin" And one person was so angry about it they called the cops about it, Acianne wound up showing up instead because she listens to police radio calls and she had to drag him out by the ear for his poor behavior. He learned nothing from this incident.

1 – How did you discover the show in the first place? Did it inspire you to create an OC right away, or later on?

Was aware of the show since childhood of course, but while some of my friends watched episodes when I was in primary school, I didn't have the chance to (only basic channels + no internet). Then comes middle school, I got the internet and quickly became interested in watching shows and movies I didn't have access to before. I couldn't tell you what possessed me to finally check out the Simpsons but I found myself a very handy french website dedicated to streaming all of the episodes ('homer tv' i think it was called? I still remember the layout. RIP my old friend you are remembered and missed) and that is when I started my original binge... Good times ♥ I did watch some more later on, most notably a bunch of years ago when I was living with a friend, maybe circa 2018?.. iirc it had been either rumoured or announced the newest season then was to be the last (which i believed cuz the last ep was kind of a nice sendoff) but I'm very glad we've been shown wrong and the show still goes on :]

I got inspired to make my OC because my friends and I all fell into the show approximately at the same time, and one day in VC they started talking like they were actual citizens from Springfield, started talking about the characters like they were neighbours and bickering over things, and ultimately from that came the idea of making Housewife OCs for the show. Of course I jumped into that straight ahead cuz what better fun than engaging with media by making a lil guy to go with it? ♥

I guess both overlap! Her catchphrases are "I can fix him/it" and "this time it's different" which are both basically her way of thinking. She'll keep convincing herself she'll manage to improve the circumstances and people (often men) in her life, and that I promise this time it'll be different and sooo much better and this guy is good I swearrrr

13 – BONUS: Tell us a fun fact about your OC!

Her name is a complicated attempt from me to make it sound similarish to Ardate LMAO. All my friends and I tried to make something similar to our names/usernames but mine was the trickiest,,

'Ann Dale' is the best thing I could come up with that 1) sounds similarish to Ardate 2) sounds like a real name 3) is fun to say (important!)

The addition of 'Doreen' was really just because of point 3), i thought it sounded more fun to say/hear, and it also adds something to her... Something about 'Ann-Doreen' has a vibe that fits her kind of trashy struggling worker archetype, kind of in the similar vein as the names Cletus and Brandine give their kids

So 2~3 of these kitties are connected to Devil's Moon characters but probably won't show up (or at least, will only be mentioned), and two arent related to it at all.

Viviana Carmina Holst - Slyvester's wife, who Ive thought so much about but may not even show up "on camera" LOL. A calico with auburn hair she keeps in a fairly old-fashioned style, to match her more modest dress. She's thin and has big, bright green-brown eyes.

She's quite sociable, observant, easygoing and a terrible cardshark. She loves company and doesn't get it nearly as much as she'd like; they live in a modest yet well-decorated home outside St. Louis city limits. Carmina comes from a large Italian family. She was the first of her siblings to be born in America. She's always been known as Carmina to them (there were already three Vivianas in the extended family), and Vivi to her husband.

Because she and Slyvester could not have children, they adopted three nephews after the boys' parents passed (Carmina's side). The boys are now grown and the two oldest are quite successful. The youngest still lives with them to help his mother, as Carmina is disabled and Slyvester works a lot, and they've yet to find a live-in nurse that suits them.

Carmina and Slyvester grew up together in the same Italian-majority neighborhood; his family is Danish and was one of the few non Italians on the block. Carmina's parents approved of him bc he agreed to convert, they knew he wasn't a drinker, and they were relieved their sickly daughter was able to get married and have someone take care of her for the rest of her life.

Flynn's Family - I've thought a lot about them but I don't think they'll be super relevant or come up, alas. His older brother Seamus is fairly important to the business, but rarely makes himself known. He has some pretty bad physical and mental damage from the war, so tends to be anti-social, plus years of Flynn's emotional manipulation have taken their toll. Tomas was the youngest and the golden child, died in the war. Flynn couldn't stand him. Sorcha was older than Tomas but younger than Flynn, I'm still unsure what happened exactly, but she's not around her parents anymore. They didn't really dote on her like they did the boys, or Tomas.

Their mother was tall and slender, while the father was more stout and broad, and a little shorter - only Seamus had his build and coloring, the rest of the children were looked and were built like their mama. All of them had orange and black markings but the Flynn we know is the only chimera.

I keep wanting to think of more for the family - their history, and appearances and whatnot, but then I pull back because it "won't be relevant" in Devil's Moon ... well, might do it anyway bc I just like writing family dynamics and drama, lol. I already wrote a ton about Carmina so might as well.

Okay these two are 100% not UTDM related and from an Arkham Horror board game/kinda tabletop bc we rp'd it a ton. The setting is 1920s anyway, and I forced my friends to play and make lackadaisy OCs (it was my birthday damn it 😂). These two characters rotted a crater in my brain for 2 weeks straight and I still like em a ton. Sister Marguerite was mine and Father Elijah was initially my partner's but I have since stolen him haha.

Sister Marguerite, formerly Adelaide Whitaker. Wheeww... so much to say here but I'll condense it. Originally from a wealthy East Coast family, she was forcefully sent to a "wellness and manners" sort of school for "esteemed ladies" that was really just a ruse to hide her pregnancy. It wasn't a Magdalene asylum/laundry, though. She lost the child, but a handful of nuns showed her such kindness (and she'd had religious-fixated OCD for years that her family actively made worse anyway) that she converted to Catholicism and began the process of becoming a nun once she was old enough. She's happy with her current life, enough that her OCD has lessened somewhat, but ofc there are still bad days. She often fixates on physical purity, baptism and "healing water"; most of her sisters chalk her "peculiarities" up to her extreme devotion and are willing to overlook her bad, spiraling days bc shes v dear to them. She's a good-hearted woman, quiet, and doesn't scare easily. Puts others before herself again and again.

As a cat, she's white with unsettling sectorial heterochromia, big slender ears, and an odd face. Lackadaisy cats are generally pretty cute but she's meant to be more "homely". Her eyes are more unnerving than striking. This is the photo that was the first inspiration for her, though this kitty is very cute, haha. If she were human I think she'd have bright eyes and a very plain face. I've drawn her but my art is pretty oof! I need to keep practicing bc her face and headshape in particular are kinda different.

Actually considered reworking her backstory to be one of Jack's many siblings; he did have a sister who ran off, but thats kinda irrelevant in UTDM rn. If anything itd be mentioned in an epilogue.

Father Elijah - A handsome man from a good Midwestern family. They were disappointed when Elijah joined the church, feeling like he was wasting his potential. He's always felt close to God and wanted to help others, but he's also a deeply scholarly person and loves theology, even if some things he studies would be considered heretical. This doesn't necessarily mean he's open minded, especially to those he considers "irredeemable", but he's always polite, protective of his flock and usually a pretty affable guy.

Elijah certainly has some kind of mental stuff rolling around in his noggin; I don't want to call it disorder or illness, especially since he doesn't really have a name for it at the time period (like Marguerite with her OCD). In the tabletop, they came to Arkham together as allies and quickly became rather ... obsessed with each other. He's very fixated with Marguerite, believing her to be a pinnacle of what a godly person should be, and later believing she can actually speak to angels (or is one??). He wants so much of her attention, to hear her opinions and interpretations of faith. To say he puts her on a pedestal is an understatement. Calling it "romantic" interest isnt the whole picture, and too simple for... whatever the hell he's got going on. Marguerite admires him deeply but in a more "inspired" way. Platonic is also too simple for what she's feeling, but her attachment certainly isn't as deep as his.

As a cat he's an orange tabby with pretty blue eyes. Meant to be a really tall good looking dude, a contrast to Sister Margy. Maaany women in the church have admired him but he's never considered or indulged in feelings like that until Marguerite; he doesn't even consider his appearance much. Just tries to keep tidy. I also terribly drew him real quick for the tabletop. I think his ears should have kind of a cute shape and he's got extra fur around his face :3 Still not sure on what sort of tail he'd have, though.

Shoutout to tabletop!Father Elijah who dual wielded a pistol and giant crucifix on the regular, constantly threw himself into danger to save Margie and slowly became twisted by the dark powers he was trying so hard to stop 👍🏽 One of my favorite scenes was both of them jumping into a portal together, then getting separated bc we rolled poorly and they both got HP/Sanity down to 0. Elijah woke up in the hospital in extreme pain, left without fully restoring HP and ran all the way back to the church to find Marguerite. They held each other at the altar for a while and she gave him her rosary bc he lost his crucifix in the void. and they promised to never leave each other again and stayed attached at the hip in spite of the usual eldritch horrors. normal arkham horror things. I'd love to make Arkham LCG cards for them; theyve already got custom cards for the 2nd edition board game (but now my other fixations and nerdness is showing so ill stop here).

(shoutout to that poor eldritch-corrupted NPC who sister marguerite believed needed a baptism to restore him, so father elijah held the dude down while he almost drowned and margeurte prayed over him and one party member witnessed all this and told the others so EVERYONE avoided "those catholic freaks" for the whole session sdkdskfs)

3 OCs Let´s gooooo!!!!

These guys are called Sakura, Efraín and Inferno!! And they´re all part of a band called Devil´s Cadence. There´s four people in this band, these three guys and Hell (Also an OC of mine), wich plays on vocals and guitar. They may look like Sanses, but they´re not, they´re actually demons that come from the Multiverse´s Hell. I still haven´t made their demoniac forms, when I make them, I´ll update this.

Sakura is a demon girl who goes by she/her and is Bisexual.

In the band she plays the drums, but she is also able to play the harmonica and flute.

She´s very good at fighting because of her unpredictable attacks and great reflexes, both of wich are enhanced by her right eye, which has the ability to predict the opponent’s movements and consequently where to attack him.

Her skull crack was made in a fight with her family, wich she hates (except her brother) because of the mistreatment she suffered from her parents, even getting to the point of losing her brother, or at least that´s what she thinks, in reality, her brother, who is called Rock, is still alive. Will they ever meet again?

Efraín is a guy who goes by he/him and is Asexual.

In the band he plays the bass and some vocals, and will always try to add a bass solo in all concerts, and he´ll usually get that try rejected by the team, but when they let him do it, the next 2 minutes are automatically going to be some of the best parts of the entire concert. Even though, he is able to play piano, but he doesn´t play it often, he mainly uses it when he´s trying compose a new song for the band.

This guy likes to act like he´s tough, but he´s actually a sweetheart with people he has confidence with.

He, unlike the other demons that look like Sanses, doesn´t like to hide his horns and doesn´t actually do it, this causes confusion to people in the multiverse because it´s weird to see a "Sans" with horns.

Fun fact: His blood is yellow, and that thing next to his right eye is a wound that has not healed.

What he has down in his skull ain´t blood, it´s actually a tatoo with a lot of meaning to him, you´ll see, Hell isn´t a nice place to live, there´s a lot of violence everywhere and people are agressive, well, when he was a child he used to hang out with his best friend, but one day Efraín saw him crying with blood in the exact same place that he has the tatoo, that was the last time he ever saw his best friend. He doesn´t know what happened to him, and even knowing that most probably he is dead, he refuses to accept that idea, and to remember him, he got that tatoo. When he lost hope of finding him, he felt like he needed to do something to distract himself, and that´s when he started to learn how to play bass. Now, he´s doing great by rejecting the idea that his friend is dead, because he isn´t. Here will be a link to his design when a publish him. Who is that guy, and most importantly, will they meet again after a lot of years??

Inferno is a guy who goes by he/him and is Straight.

In the band he plays the guitar and some vocals too.

He is such a chill guy that likes to relax and sleep. He´s very kind and gentle. Even though he hasn´t always been like that...

He used to be very active and really enjoyed doing sport, running and exploring caverns with Hell, his best friend, but one day, they were exploring a huge cavern that didn´t seem to end, they eventually found a lost treasure, but when Inferno opened it, a weird creature jumped into him and bit him. That creature, who seemed to have hurted Inferno, actually made him more powerful by giving him a third form where he is like a shadow and can seriously hurt people with no effort.

Even though that sounds cool, the problem was that he automatically transformed into that shadow state each time he got angry, and that was potentially dangerous, that´s why he started to live a much more calmed life.

Now, he can perfectly control his shadow form, but he still likes to be chill, but if he wants to, he can be perfectly active, and that´s exactly what happens when him and the rest of the band are practicing or playing, he gets to excited and start to move a lot, so in concerts he really has a lot of fun, and so does the spectators with their music.

The Harriet Pinup Art Project

Session 0- goals and preparation

Out of the sessions this one will probably be the wordiest- my apologies that I can't break it apart with more images! Hopefully the future sessions will have more show and less tell.

Goal for this project-

To make a good enough quality artpiece that it could be printed as a poster or print. I won’t end up making it an actual print since it entails some considerations I’d rather not mess with, but I’d like to at least push my art to that quality. This is my loftiest of my goals but a goal nonetheless.

To finish this piece within the month of September. It’d be nice to get it done sooner, and its equally possible that I may end up finishing it later than that, but I want to take my time with this piece for longer than I normally would for an art piece. I rarely work on my pieces for longer than a week on average.

What is the planned setting/composition for the pinup?

A candid of Harriet sitting on the edge of the deck of her ship (or off of a dock) all chill albeit possibly mischievous. She will likely be holding/eating a grilled fish on a skewer, giving lowkey implication that she snatched/stole it out from the ship’s kitchen/BBQ before mealtime.

The outfit will preferably have shorts/daisy dukes, a top of some sorts, draconian features out (so her lil penguin wings and her long flippered tail, maybe also feathered webbed hands/feet) in her human form for added interest, with a shirtless/tits-out as an additional outfit variant (I hope to come out of this project with at least 2 different versions- a sfw and more nsfw version). Her happy trail must be in view as well as her chest to add to the pinup-ness.

I may also give a canon-compliant colour pallete (so the teal/red/white) for her outfit as well as a non-compliant variant (the colour those clothes would be normally in the real world) depending on how well the colours compliment her.

Inspiration-

Of all things, the one that finally motivated me to think of taking a crack at it, it was the Brazillian Miku art trend. Created by ErinArtista (artpiece link X).

Tanned skin, teal hair, tomboyish energy, the parallels to Harriet are very similar which made it hard not to think about her when seeing the trend spread in full force.

The version that really got me thinking of Harriet in such an outfit was by irreligiositat (artpiece link X) which gave the interpretation of Miku having a big teal happy trail. Being Harriet has a blue-green happy trail herself, it caused the final mental click.

Before this I had previously thought about drawing Harriet in “sexy” outfits- especially Mordred’s shorts/coat outfit (no surprise since I credit Mordred for being some of the inspiration for Harriet).

Although other OCs in a pinup artpiece have crossed my mind before, Harriet has always been the easiest to imagine; she canonically sometimes straight-up walks around shirtless or nude out on the deck of her own ship simply cause she’s the carefree type to do so! No other OC of mine is that bold (barring some WIP NSFW OCs that are still baking in the brain oven).

As I’ve been feeling more comfortable/bolder I have grown more motivated to explore this kind of art.

Preparations

Inspiration/reference board/folder

Collect images to assist in compiling/understanding the art being created. I don’t do this too often unless I’m very uncertain about certain details for the art piece. Also being I don’t draw often enough the references help give some guidelines for the brain to follow.

While the number of folders/images may grow as this project progresses, I am currently starting with 4 folders with 49 different images total; A folder for backgrounds, cooked/skewered fish, outfits (particularly daisy dukes- cause I had some confusion on certain art depictions of them that I had to get clarified on), and various sitting poses that come close to what I’m after. Also Harriet’s reference sheet so we can keep more inline with the iconography of her design (and also help when we get to including her draconic features since I’m not used to drawing a transitional form).

Canvas preparation and tutorials

I’m starting this on Clip Studio Paint with A4 paper dimensions (albiet with a stupidly large canvas size to avoid accidentally drawing too small) with 300 resolution.

For tutorials I am currently starting with only one- how to use 3D models in CSP, since I have never used this feature before, and I feel this could be extremely helpful on quickly getting an idea of what will look best for this composition.

Pretty cut and dry overview, even if it’s a lot of new information to take in. In the future I may use the fancier features of it such as making specific body types (meaning I have help with grasping Demauria and Riivar’s absurd height differences) but for this project we will start/stick to the default body even though it’s not quite accurate

With the new information I imported a female 3D model from the materials section, and selected one of the sitting presets to get started with.

I also imported the top poses from my inspo board onto the canvas so that I can quickly reference from them while working on messing with the 3D model.

Depending on how well I can mess with the poses I may even do more than one 3D’d pose so that I can compare/contrast which I’d prefer for this piece.

Part 2

Part 1 and summary here⬇️

       "Look what you've done. We could be dead right now all because why? You couldn't keep your stupid mouth shut!" I heard his voice echoing in the inside of my skull as I woke up. He was always so noisy when I was trying to sleep. I wiggle my hands and feet making sure I could move them before I opened my eyes. I was somewhere dark, damp, and cold. I let out a murmur as I try to get my eyes to focus. I wasn't in Arkham unless they decided to add a cave wing. That's what it was. I was in a cave but how? 

         I shook my head trying to shake off this fog my head was in. "Run run! Someone is watching. They are gonna-"

       "Stop yelling! I hear you!" I shouted back at my noisy friend. When I yelled I heard bats out of sight flap their wings and squeak. It's then I realized I was on a cot of some kind. I sit up quickly. I was still In my sweatsuit that was handed out at Arkham but my sleeve was rolled up and I had a small bandage in the crease of my arm. 

        "It was the lunatic in the bat pajamas. I saw him. He took your blood Margaret, he's up to something."

        "Just relax Felix. You're sounding crazy." I say as I use the cot to help me to my feet. 

         "Who's Felix?" I almost jumped out of my skin when he spoke. I looked around and finally saw a tall figure step out of the shadows. It was Batman. 

         "A friend. Where am I?" I ask as  I manage to stand straight but as soon as I let go of the cot I wobble and fall right back on it. 

        "Just relax. You fell asleep in the car. Do you want to tell me why you were in Arkham? Or more importantly why that man was so desperate to keep you there?" He asked as he came a bit closer. He was lying I didn't fall asleep. He put something in the mask. I wasn't about to argue with the Dark Knight though. I know he's human but that doesn't make me any less afraid of him.

        "If I tell you, you have to promise not to take me back. I'm gonna sound crazy but I'm not, I'm really not. Just pinky promise me." I say looking up at him. He stands there for what feels like forever before he sticks out his gloved pinky to me. I hook mine around his quickly and let go. "Okay my friend who I mentioned earlier told me the director was performing experiments on patients at Arkham. A-and my friend is really good at stopping bad stuff from happening if I let him so I took him to the directors office and asked him to stop what he was doing or something really bad would happen to him." I spoke as quickly and clearly as I possibly could. Even though I wasn't in Arkham I still felt like he could hear me. Batman stood there for a while. Motionless, his face never changed. 

       "Where is your friend now? How do I get a hold of them?" He asked in an even tone. How calm he was almost made me want to relax a little.

I shook my head. 

          "That's the part you won't believe. He's not really a person… Well that sounds bad. He's a person but-" batman cut me off

        "But I can't see or hear him." 

        "Yes yes! You totally don't believe me do you? Okay look I can prove it." I say almost frantically. Batman still didn't move, his face still had the same expression. "Felix, can you show Batman you are real? It doesn't have to be anything huge, just something." I ask as I look around. 

        "You can't see him either? How do you know he's even here?" Batman asked. 

         "Oh trust me I can just tell. He's here somewhere." I say still searching the top of the cave in hopes I'll catch a glimpse of something. After a few moments I sigh. "He's messing with me. Sometimes he likes to-" as I spoke I saw the pillow on the cot lift up slowly before being tossed at Batman who catches it in one hand. He seemed unphased. The blanket slowly pulls itself off the cot and seems to fling itself over Batman's head. He takes it off of himself and looks at me. 

        "How did he know the director was performing experiments?" Batman asked as if nothing just happened. I was shocked for a second but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He probably sees all kinds of stuff on the streets of Gotham. 

        "Well he just hears things. Like secrets, stuff people shouldn't hear. Then he tells me and they have to know about them. Normally he tells me things and I don't say anything but this was serious. People were getting hurt. I wanted to help and Felix said he could help. But I knew better than to believe him so I told him we should give the director a chance to stop before I let Felix handle it." I stop to take a deep breath. He nodded for me to continue like he could tell there was more I wasn't saying. "Felix wanted to kill him. I wouldn't let him so he got mad and tried to teach me a lesson." As I say this the pillow still in Batman's hand gets yanked loose and thrown across the room and again Batman doesn't even bat an eye at Felix's antics.

          "So your friend let you get admitted into Arkham to show you, you should have let him kill the man?" I nod sheepishly as a crash is heard somewhere In the cave. I jumped but I knew it was Felix. 

          "They were giving me a lot of drugs. I think one of them weakened him. By the time things got really dangerous Felix wasn't able to help all that much. A broken glass, or a shove here or there was really all he could do."

          "And now?" Batman asked as he finally pulled his eyes from me to slowly scan the darkness behind me. 

         "Now he's normal old Felix again." I say softly.

        "No one looked for you? How long were you there?"

         "No idea. A while I think. And no, no one was looking for me. I'm not from Gotham. I was in a few foster homes but it's hard with someone like Felix around. He can be a little aggressive." I say, shuffling on the cott. I pulled my sleeve down then remembered he took my blood. "And why did you need my blood?" I ask looking up at him. He didn't answer. He turned and walked down some stairs as he walked more of the cave was lit up. I saw a giant penny and a few different kinds of batman suits. He walked over to a big computer looking thing and sat down. I tried to stand again this time gaining more ground. I slowly walked my way down the stairs and stood behind him. 

         "The gas the Scarecrow dosed you with causes delirium and hallucinations. It can give his victims a heart attack if not treated quickly. At first I thought maybe you didn't inhale enough to be affected but the blood work shows you got 3 times a normal dose. You shouldn't be standing let alone speaking right now." He says as he pulled up a bunch of numbers and graphs I didn't understand. I shrug my shoulders. 

           "I don't know, maybe I got lucky. Could it have been a bad batch?" I say as I grab the back of his chair to take some weight off my legs. He didn't seem satisfied with the answer. He typed and read for a while as I stood there. I looked around for a seat, still feeling weak and tired. I see the cott and started to walk my way back to it. Climbing the stairs was a much bigger task than going down them. I sit at the base of the stairs and huff. 

        "Don't go far. " He says over his shoulder. I don't think me wondering around is a very realistic fear right now. I lay down on the step and put my head on my hand as a cushion. The pillow Felix threw started to slowly drag itself back to me. I take it and put it under my head. 

         "Thanks" I whisper as I close my eyes. I could have fallen asleep if it wasn't for the coldness of the stone step I was laying on. Felix started to speak to me about something involving a rich man living a double life. I do my best not to listen to his ramblings. 

         "He doesn't plan to let us go." This made my eyes pop open. It was a silly thing to worry about. I mean he was Batman he had to let me go at some point. I sat up and looked at him still working. 

         "If you don't mind, can you drop me off outside of city limits? If I never see Gotham again it will be too soon." I joke. 

        "You can't leave yet. The director knows your name, your face. No telling what a desperate man would do to keep his secrets. It's best if you stay here for a little longer." He says not looking back at me. It was reasonable enough but I was getting antsy just sitting and Felix wasn't helping. 

       "If there is one thing Felix is good at, it's keeping me alive. He won't make the same mistake twice. We will leave town. I want to leave, please?" I say as I stand up. He didn't seem to react.

        "Go and lay down on the cott I'll wake you up when I'm all set." He says still not moving from his seat. I look at the cott and sigh. I could use a nap. I start my very slow climb. I could feel Felix keeping me up right as I walked. I made it to the cott and as soon as I layed down I shut my eyes. I felt a blanket be pulled over me which was all I needed to fall asleep again. 

    

          — Bruce didn't know what to make of this strange girl. She seems harmless one minute then she says something that makes him wonder. He used some connections and asked around about a girl matching her description going missing from the system. Only one girl matched. Margaret Arthur. Parents died in a fire when she was an infant and was placed with a family who kept her for almost 10 years before relinquishing guardianship without explanation. Since then she has been in 5 homes in the past 3 years all ended the fostering period early never giving a reason. 

          Bruce made a few calls asking around. He knew what he had to do. He could tell she was good just needed some help. He had all the resources in the world to give her. He knew once he explained it to Dick and Jason they would be on board. He had to adopt her. She left for a few more hours which gave him some time to call his lawyers and the adoption agency. He has the story all worked out and who wouldn't believe Bruce Wayne. —

       I woke up again this time with a headache and a growling stomach. I sat up and looked around. I stood up without issue now and walked to the stairs. The lights lit up the lower floor but I couldn't see Batman anywhere.

        "Hello? Anyone here?" I say as I walk a little deeper. He has alot of souvenirs it seemed. I saw a mask that looked just like Scarecrows. I thought it was odd he kept these things. It made me wonder if Batman was scared of anything. He keeps all these freaky things in a poorly lit cave how does he not get creeped out. 

        "I'll look for an exit" I agreed and continued my stroll in this dank cave until I came to a much longer staircase. "Up here I found a way out" I walked up them carefully. I couldn't see an exit just more steps till finally I heard a creaking sound and a hatch opened slowly. Light flooded the steps as the door opened wider. Once my eyes adjusted I saw a fancy looking officer. The windows were as tall as the walls and the desk was huge. "I think I broke the lock. Think he'll be mad?" I looked back at the spot I came from. It was a grandfather clock that was mounted to the wall to hide the entrance. Part of the wall was cracked around the deadbolts. "We are in his house I think." I say as I carefully close the door. I could hear voices speaking down the hall coming this way. I panicked and ran behind the desk and hid under it. Once the coast was clear I planned to look for a way out. The voices came closer till I could tell they were in the room with me.

Trick Or Treat: Albert DaSilva x OC *Halloween Special* 🎃

Set in 1900 after the strike, the Newsies take Les trick or treating and run into a new friend from Queens, one that seems to stick with Albert. Sorry it's a bit short. :)

Albert’s POV

“Come on, Davey! It’s already 7:30 and we’ve only gone down 2 blocks!”

I hold back a laugh as Les drags Davey through the crowd-a knee-high kids. It’s Halloween, my kind-a holiday when you can stay up late and scare people to death! And right now it’s time to score some sugar.

“He’s right, Davey.” Jack walks up wearing his usual cowboy attire. “He ain’t get’n any younger.”

“Nonsense!” Race grins. “The night is young! We sold all our papes today so it's time for celebrating! Now let’s pick up the pace- I want Necco Wafers now!”

We all run down the sidewalk with Les leading the pack, hitting one apartment after anodda. A half hour goes by and soon we’s already at the edge of town.

“Well well well, if it ain’t the ‘Hattan boys,” a voice calls from behind us.

We all groan. “Hi Spot.”

Spot Colon, AKA the ‘King of Brooklyn,’ struts up along with more Brooklyn newsies.

“You’s trick-or-treating? What are ya, 5?” Before we argue he holds up his hands and chuckles. “Relax, relax. I’s just joking. In fact that’s what we’s doing here too. You know, for the little ones.” He looks over his shoulder and seems to get a gleam in his eye. “I want you’s to meet Annie.” He steps aside and a cute goil in overalls hops outta the dark. “She’s an old friend-a mine, so no mess’n around. Understand, Race?”

But Race don’t seem too interested, however Spot’s woids go right over my head. 

“Hey doll, you’s ain’t from around here are ya?” I hold out a hand. “Name’s Albert.”

Annie’s POV

When Spot told me about how fun Halloween in ‘Hattan is I was so excited! There ain’t much to do in Queens, so I normally find somewhere else to party. What I didn’t expect was to meet Spot’s friends, rather good-looking ones if I do say so myself. Especially the ginger who’s shaking my hand.

“Hiya, Albert!” I say with a bright smile.

He gets a glazed look in his eyes and tilts his head. “I’s never seen you around Brooklyn before.”

“No, I’m from Queens.” I nudge Spot’s shoulder and he groans in annoyment. “I just hang with Spot when I’m bored. You fellas got anything exciting in ‘Hattan?”

Albert bites his lip and a part-a me’s hoping he invites me over, but to do that I can tell we godda get away from Colon.

“Say Spot, I think I’m gonna go check out the rich folks’ party down the block. I’ll catch up later!”

Spot seems reluctant, but he knows he can’t control me. He gives me a stiff nod and goes back to talk’n with the odda ‘Hattan boys, cueing me to give Albert a quick gesture to follow me. He bounds after me down the street and once we’s in a noisy spot away from the oddas Albert’s laugh’n like crazy.

“You’s just as daring as I am, doll!”

“Darn straight!” I grin and turn to face him. “Now we can chat without Colon give’n us the death stare.”

He gets a funny look and part-a me thinks he’s too chicken to go against Spot. “Why does Colon keep such a close eye on ya? You two close or someth’n?”

His noivousness makes me suppress a chuckle and I put a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. “Relax. Spot just worries ‘cause I don’t got too many street smarts as the rest-a yous.”

Albert nods in understanding. “He’s right to look out for ya. Makes me wonder how a pretty thing like yourself’s gone this long without get’n a normal life.”

His comment makes my smile fade and I put my hands on my hips. “And what’s that mean?”

Albert sees he’s slipped up his wording and holds up his hands. “Just say’n that you’s a very luvely goil and I’s surprised you’s ain’t married yet. You don’t seem like you’s should be hang’n around guys like me.”

He’s a lot more observant than I thought. Albert’s guessed I ain’t lower class, and he ain’t completely wrong. My folks have a decent income, but money can still be tight sometimes.

“I ain’t poor, but I ain’t rich eidda. And I don’t let someth’n as cliché as social class get in the way of my life.” I push past him and start walk’n away. “And if you’s think I’s just a pretty goil who should get married then take a hike, pal.”

Albert rushes up from behind. “I don’t mean it like that, honest-!”

“Oh sure, ‘cause I’s just an innocent, weak, pretty goil who shouldn’t be seen with lower class- you’s start’n to sound like my modda-!”

But I don’t get to finish my outburst because Albert pushes me against the cold brick wall and leans in. It comes outta nowhere and at foist I’m shocked, but then anodda feel'n grows throughout me that acts as anodda reason for my racing heartbeat.

“You like it dangerous, don’t ya doll? No wonder Colon has to watch over ya, never know when you’ll get into trouble. I ain’t say’n you’s a weak goil, I just wish I weren’t so poor so I could take you out properly.”

His husky voice makes me shutter and subconsciously lean into him, getting a surprised response from the gorgeous ginger.

“Annie, I- Does this- D-Do you like me too?” A simple reaction and he’s reduced to scattered woods.

“Yes,” I whisper. “Like I said, I don’t let social class come between me and what I want.”

He seems to regain his confidence and grins. “And what is it you want?”

I smirk and lean in to whisper in his ear: “Trick or treat, Albert.”

“Hmm… I ain’t sure I wanna take my chances with the trick…” He leans in closer and I feel his warmth surround me. “Or maybe I could ask ya out for a treat. Whaddya say, Annie?”

I lean in and give his lips a quick peck, making his face go nearly as red as his hair. “You seem like a treat yourself, handsome. I’d luv to go out with ya-!”

I’s barely gotten my woods out when Albert’s eyes light up and suddenly I feel soft lips be’n pressed to mine. I close my eyes and almost forget to stand, melting into Albert’s strong arms. Amidst the crowds of chattering kids and various Halloween celebrations all I can think of is him, no woids needing to be said to understand each odda. Once we pull apart for air Albert’s smiling like an idiot.

“God, I wish I would’ve started sell’n in Queens a long time ago! You wanna go on that date now?”

I kiss him one last time and start pull’n him towards the festivities. “Does caramel taste sweet?”

He grins and wraps an arm around my waist as we rush into the crowd. “I’ll take that as a yes!”

I'm actually getting very excited to share Geckos, Automata. I've been sick the past few days and have an event next Saturday, but I've been chipping away at editing in-between things. I had to rewrite some chapters toward the end. They were rather rushed. Not that I mind short chapters. Kind of relief to have chapters that are rarely over 2k and even some lower than 1k after Seasons, where I think the average chapter is 5k... (I should check that sometime.)

Geckos, Automata will probably be under 75k by the time I'm done editing and rewriting sections. That's refreshing. I'm so glad it's a short story! I can write short stories? WHO KNEW?! (So many of mine are long. Nearly every story in the dragon universe is going to be 250k+ on average, given what I have planned for them...) Anyway. Life is kind of weird. I am not finding work that I can do with my health, and transportation is an issue until I have a job. (I want to buy my mom's car off of her before my dad decides to trade it in when they go to get her a new one. The car was T-boned when a truck ran a stop sign, and the place that fixed it did a shit job so my parents had to put down another $1600 to further fix issues that were ignored. I would give them more money than a trade at this point, and the car is sufficient for minor errands.) Here's hoping my writing takes off, since apparently my health is just a shit show. But I do have coverage so I'm slowly but surely making appointments. Next month, I see a doctor about getting tested for Sjogren's and other issues. I've been going to the library in the next town over, and I plan to get two more library cards (one for the city nearby, one for my town) soon. I checked out Wolfsong by TJ Klune and need the rest of the books, the city has them but one of them has a huge waiting list... I am in love with this series! Anyway. That's all. Have a picture of "my" cats. (Roommate's, technically, but they're sharing.)

They are Barnaby and Mildred (yes those are OC names as well, but listen) and we call them BB and Millie. Or Princess Millie, Reverse Card (he has a spot on his back that's white, a spot on his white stomach that is black), Silly Millie, and like... a thousand other things. BB is complaining bc I put their fishing rod toy on the ceiling fan for a few minutes to go do something real quick before I went back to playing with them... (It's a ribbon. I didn't want them getting wrapped up in it.) Millie is my best friend. ;A; I'm slowly convincing her my lap is a place to snuggle on. BB is the most hyperactive cat I have ever met and likes my roommate more and thinks I'm just a food/treat dispenser and the person who should play even when I'm TRYING TO EAT AFTER PLAYING WITH THEM TWO STRAIGHT HOURS OMG SLOW DOWN CHILD I BEG YOU (They're 2+ years old and former outdoor kitties, we adopted them back in January. BB actually has the TNR clipped ear, hard to see in this photo but his gorgeous ear, I hate that they did that to it... ;A; )

So ahead of time this is a collaborative project with me, @lycanthrology and @thebourneultimatum <3 so Im going to be mostly describing my contributions because idk exactly what they were thinking or going for at all times but like I’ll probably reference lore that was their idea as well yk. credit to the people who made this movie <3

1.) how would you describe the world your story takes place in?

It sucks. Well it’s not so bad but it kind of is. It’s like close to modern technology, like some things are slightly futuristic and some are kind of outdated. There’s like a lot of high fantasy elements I guess I should have said that it’s mostly high fantasy first. The focus is on these 3 countries, 2 of which are at war with each other and then the third one joins later. All of them are kind of bleak in their own way lol 

region 5: a country with a mostly forgotten but extremely history, the ghost of which still haunts the people to this day. A lot of people particularly the country’s nobility tend to romanticize it, including after the war starts, but the reality on the ground is very different to what the propaganda + genuine opinions of those in power would have you believe (somewhat of a running theme lol). it’s like an eastern european type country with that kinda climate and everything. they used to be more religious in the past but now the population is generally more removed from that kind of thing. in their mythology their god is straight up dead anyway. it’s almost always cloudy overhead so the sun has a lot of significance whenever you do get to see it 

straesia: Once (like until like a few months ago) a very powerful and prosperous empire, lots of like cool high fantasy buildings and etc, but due to some internal political sabotage the country is now fucked. they started a war with region 5 thinking they could easily win. they did not easily win and now large parts of the country are being destroyed + overall the patriotism and idealism that used to be very common there is fading. culture overall like somewhat militaristic + etc. aesthetically it’s like very high fantasy but like now crumbling and all it’s very soulsborne. some interesting fun facts are that straesian armor is made to mimic the appearance of various wild animals in its design + some native straesians have sharp incisors

del maia: Supposed to be nice and pleasant and like on the surface it’s very colorful, very sunny, there’s a lot of islands (there’s a mainland and then an archipelago). It’s not like. Tropical it has a Southern European climate. Unfortunately there is also the presence of extreme violence basically out in the open for a variety of reasons it’s like ok. There used to be a monarchy and a royal family and etc but they were losing power in recent years in favor of various merchant families/companies that had an increasing hold over the country’s economy, especially bc they had better international relations and this country relied a lot on trade. So there was a sort of revolution + they got rid of the monarchy and replaced it with this kind of capitalistic oligarchy instead. It is just as bad as before if not worse because a lot of the people are pretty incompetent and also actively sabotaging each other so as to be the only one at the top. It’s like succession but with more colorful outfits

there’s some more details I could mention but that’s already getting pretty long lol :P

I love how it is extremely obvious who made which country. (Didn’t mean to say disproportionately more abt mine it’s just easier to like make shit up yk? Bc I don’t have to worry abt getting the details wrong) I am trying not to be too repetitive with mine like one of the main cities I’ve talked abt in Zeolan in the main ocs cinematic universe is pretty similar to the general aesthetic to this country. Like they have wizards (sort of. maybe I should call them something other than wizards) that work for the government too. The flavor is different on them though ok Im sincerely committed to this project any similarities are mere coincidence ok next question lol

4.) what would you say is the message, if there is one.

I think there are several I guess in the vaguest most general sense it’s like war is bad type stuff. There’s also capitalism is bad. Politicians are fucked and those in power don’t care about normal people. Pretty standard stuff but it’s in there <3 theres definitely some other elements too but I don’t want to speak for everyone else yk like what ideas they were trying to include. I would say those are like the main ones though 

5.) pick a theme song for the tv adaptation.

This is so much pressure ok um. Gun to my head Snakes and Martyrs by Tv on the Radio. It has nothing to do with the subject matter whatsoever it’s just the song I happened to be listening to most recently that’s remotely similar to the vibe. I think so far though there are definitely some commonalities with the tone + themes the 3 countries do each have different flavoring so like it’s hard to find a sound that works for all of them yk?

there’s this one fan fiction of ok I know how that sounds. It’s good ok. it’s about baron zemo yes from mcu movies stay with me. it’s basically completely original because it takes place before the canon timeline so the author is literally just making shit up + since it’s unfinished almost nothing of it has anything to do with canon mcu events at all. it’s like original fiction at that point it’s good though it is

To what degree do you use your OC as a means to explore your own romantic proclivities (or shortcomings)? Is your OC a self-insert and the relationship a form of wish-fulfilment and/or an means to explore certain fantasies? Or do you enjoy exploring something completely different to your own experiences and preferences?

Tl;dr: wish fulfillment and "they cute so make they kiss" 💖 More detailed yapping under the cut:

First thing I'll say is I have no ships with any of the major cast in FFXIV. Coz of the way I started this game, I can't picture any of my OCs as the WoL much less dating a Scion, so no WoLships here even if I would personally go off on an adventure with Aymeric or Erenville any day.

I think any shipping I do probably falls under wish fulfillment - I write ships, in general, to feel good, to idealise the improbable chances of people who find each other in an infinite tangle of potentialities and go, "you're it", to imagine the kinds of people I want to find each other and how they interact. My OCs and their other halves are the fictional friends whom I want to see fulfilled in that area of their lives, and to find joy in that manner - even if they're not there yet, and even if as they live in their stories, that joy isn't guaranteed to them (but I know it is, and I want to see it unfold). In some ways, because I don't know what that feels like, I play pretend to try and stretch my imagination enough to see what it could be like.

Anyway, onto the specifics:

- Remont's lack of a long-term ship/tendency to sleep with people without emotional attachment is, I think, the very small attempt at trying something that's the polar opposite of my own personal preferences (monogamous, long-term, emotions first before anything physical). My personal shortcoming is not knowing how to flirt to save my own life, so you can tell this is a Huge Disadvantage when Remont is supposed to flirt like it will save his. Since he's so different, it's difficult to play "make the barbies kiss" with him - which probably means I need to practice more but I digress. Do I enjoy it? I don't know, but I do think it's part of him, and so I'd like to see where this goes. The shipping-related question for him, I think, is the classic Regency romance trope: can there be a reformed rake, and how does that work long-term? (And can I write it convincingly?)

- Philomene’s lack of shipping is based on my experiences with my grandmother, and with other women in my life whose husbands unfortunately passed early. And they steadfastly carried on without even seeking out other partners, much less a second marriage. Their real life motives varied of course, ranging from "don't want nobody else" to "can't be arsed to go through all THAT again". This Dowager of mine just happened to have fallen straight into that kind of forever love that only comes by once in a lifetime.

Also, in the meta-sense, let's be real: in terms of RP, Philomene’s personality, age and monogamous cishet preferences means there's about much chance of her being in a ship as there is a warm day in Ishgard. I'm not particularly clever, but I do see the playground I'm in, and I accept the games being played, so to speak.

- Oudine went from no romance to 2 (AU) ships in nine months, so I know I've overdone something. Regardless though:

The Sharlayan AU: I personally like Au Ra men. When it came out that apparently Aymeric has a "peeled Au Ra" face, it explained so much. I clearly didn't think it through when @escherstrange-ffxiv brought Sirolimus out to play. And then they. kinda. looked like they fit!? But there's no way to get them together in (head)canon, so AU it is. And now they're in the slow burn process of finding out how they fit together. In this case, it's like having a slightly different OC and it's fun to see how a different life would have affected her, and how she's reacting to a handsome, grumpy/snarky Xaela.

Also look at these cuties. How could I not.

The actor AU: ...an unhinged request begging for my pixel daughter to be allowed to wed an old friend's otherwise unattainable beautiful pixel son sure seems very apt for Regency-romance tropes, ngl. This was just a case of "God they look good together and we're already here, let's just get em together, please please please". I am always thankful Izzy's player indulges my antics - and this is a helluva indulgence, possibly the biggest one I've received - coz he's (justifiably) precious to them. So I'm shipping them carefully.

MY RETROSPECTIVE ON THE MOVIE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3

On February 7th, I watched the third Sonic Movie with my best friend Mags. We’ve watched the previous 2 together in past years, and make no mistake in that we both kind of thought they sucked, but I just couldn’t help but hide myself away from all spoilers/info and to hold hope in my heart for this newest installment in spite of all the past errors made by the filmmakers because like… There’s not a lot of room for you to bungle Shadow’s backstory. The old cartoon Sonic X knew this when they adapted the game Sonic Adventure 2 to screen, they often went in wild directions (mech anime 3rd season???) but for that story they kept closely to the script outlines.

The idea of seeing the tragic ups and downs of Shadow’s story on the big screen in contrast to the “silly” adventures of the past 2 films was just gonna be a breath of fresh air I know it…. AND IT WAS!!! I actually really loved this film….. 💖

First off, I’m going to get into how it improved on the previous installments of the series or how it (regretfully) charted the same course in some places.

-The opening scene was a BANGER. Already it peaked my interest in a way no previous scene in the trilogy had…. -IT FEELS MORE LIKE THEY’RE LEARNING TO LEAN MORE INTO THE SONIC LORE OF EARTH JUST HAVING THIS WEIRD ALTERNATE GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY… Although the amount of explanation for G.U.N. activity in the movie still leaves a lot to be desired just like it also did in the past two movies. -I loved the appearance of the different environments and set-pieces that were explored in this movie… The military bunker in the flashback with the 70s theme was so good. -Hearing Idris Elba Knuckles again after so long to where I’ve forgotten most of the second movie had me like…. Good voice actor, but why’d they make him play his character like this. It feels like to the movie-makers the way he talks is just one long joke that they're over-my-shoulder expecting me to laugh at but I don't have the same brain chemistry as them in seeing it as a joke. (I was also going to wonder how they made an entire TV series around this character, but looking up more about that series apparently he isn't even much of a character in it...) -More just blatantly visible gay pining between Stone & Robotnik… Mags was as much of a freak about this part as me LMAO. -Mags also brought up that the pacing for the story felt weird, and I didn’t notice at first because I was riding the high of this movie, but I agree it does kind of feel weird the way story transitions so quick away from Sonic in the start straight into the main plot. (More thoughts on the plot later) -Yessss feed me with actual Sonic game references instead of your scenes focusing on your human OCs making racist cop jokes…. THE CHAO GARDEN & SHADOWS GUN & MOTORCYCLE SCENES WENT CRAZY…. (I also saw that slick biolizard reference y’all did…) The sonic fan in me was geeking out so hard throughout this entire movie…. -NOOO THERES STILL SO MANY SCENES OF YOUR HUMAN OCS MAKING RACIST COP JOKES….

Suffice it to say that I’m one of those people that thinks the human casts (barring Robotnik+Co & GUN) only ever drag down these movies and don’t add anything positive to them… If you the reader thought they were alright, that’s fine by me. Sonic in the way they’re telling this story inevitably needed to meet humans and make the journey he does with them, but I’m just always left wondering on if they really needed to feature them as heavily as they did considering it takes away so much time that could be used for character development and backstory of the actual animal characters of the franchise. Like people are filling the movie theater seats FOR these animated animal characters, but it feels like the filmmakers are insecure about that fact and want to highlight humans (and the Office-ass comedy scripts they give them) to try and give the movie more of a “mass market appeal”.

WELL… That criticism of mine sunk the past two movies for me in terms of enjoyment, but somehow it didn’t manage to ruin this third movie for me even still….

And that’s because the sheer -presence- of Shadow the Hedgehog in this film blasted me away in my seat. I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ON HOW HE WAS DONE IN THIS MOVIE….

His introduction gives a good amount of mystery to his character and I enjoy how the movie treats the viewer as if they’ve never seen this character in action before now, which is a no-brainer but I feel like would be an easy mistake for adaptation movies to make. (When I think about Tails and Knuckles, maybe I’ve just forgotten most of the previous movie, but I do sorta feel like I still don’t know these people… so Shadow just comes out on top in having the fullest characterization here)

On that one GUN commander dying... An established character death added some edge which is needed for a Shadow movie, but that edge kept being utilized by the human characters and I’m like, leave some for our hedgehog boy….

SHADOW'S FLASHBACKS WERE EVERYTHING I WANTED…. So they actually are very starkly different from the games and reinvents Shadow’s story completely, fitting it into the movie’s context, but the way in which they did that actually works out well I think in comparison to the ways they tried to do this in the previous 2 films…. Shadow is an actual alien like Sonic, but their whole thing is they mirror eachother in terms of who found them, with one family being loving and caring and the other being cold and scientific, until Maria… (Sonic Adventure 2 does not explain the history between the animal characters and humans on earth At All from what I remember… I usually enjoy reinterpreting sonic lore as them not just being weird animal freaks but I can give it a pass here in how it makes the story flow) I WAS KIND OF SCARED TO SEE HOW THEY’D PORTRAY MARIA TOO BUT THEY DID A DECENT JOB… I really felt for Shadow and his relationship with her… The stars scennnne;;; 😭

Trying to remember the death scene, I think the one thing they changed is instead of a soldier just straight up shooting her in the back, she dies indirectly from an explosion before that can happen… (Feels like an arbitrary difference like they could have just done it the original way. But hey, if they did everything the original way then Gerald Robotnik would have been dead this entire movie because in the original lore he was executed by firing squad after finishing the eclipse cannon—) (They do atleast avoid SA2's storytelling trap there of Gerald having previously programmed all of Shadow’s evil behavior into him instead of Gerald just being an active influence in his decisions and world view…) (It makes Shadow’s journey and progress in doing the right thing at the end all the more powerful if it’s this way)

The final battle between Shadow and Sonic is really peak too… Sonic having pushed to the brink of anger and his paralells with Shadow being highlighted even more was really great to see there… The moon scene at the end was very special too… 💖

As for the Robotniks! Well! They were funny in this movie, but the near-universal criticism I see online is that they should have stopped being funny by the tails-end of the movie and I have to agree. Gerald just drops the facade and goes full nihilism mode but actually no he’s still goofy with it in his DNA— Bluhh.

AND THE UNCEREMONIOUSNESS OF GERALD’S DEATH… Dude got ctrl-z’d. I don’t think it would have been that way if they had a different actor portraying him, but since they were the same they were like “audiences are gonna hate us doing this for the same actor twice”. IDC MAN… I CAN SUSPEND MY BELIEF….

Also very funny to think about how they totally made the decision to kill off Robotnik here because his actor did NOT want to be in any future movies, but the studio DID want to do another sequel.

(I got another little criticism here at the end too in that the plot with the new head of GUN went nowhere, like she just showed up in one scene to get smacked into the floor by gravity and get tricked) (Literally every time she got tricked it felt like she was going to turn around and reveal she actually knew the plan anyways, but then she didn’t. LOL?) (she only gets to play one role in the film and that's to be a plot device making GUN the enemies of sonic the same way they are in SA2)

Amy cameo in the end btw and she’s so cuuuute… I love the wizard hood look for her so much. I’m not excited about there being more than one Metal Sonic for her to just wreck house with because that could possibly mean they don’t focus on Metal Sonic’s individual character and story in the next one… Also Metal Sonic is for sure going to be a creation of Agent Stone who is stepping up as the replacement villain.

1)What is your most popular fic? Well, that's tricky, because I post on both ao3 and ff.net and there are wildly different results, and some are much longer than others. On ao3 it's To Love is to Hurt and on ff.net it's The Tauri: Fall (Our Mutual Destruction) which I'm working to get on ao3.
