I've got a new ship that I'm fixated on, not just "I like this" as I'm playing something or reading some fanfiction, but "I am thinking about them as I lie in bed trying to sleep" and "I'm watching other romances JUST to see their possible interactions and further characterization for MY SHIP" levels. Subaru and Cuilang are just. *chef's kiss*

I never see the MC as "myself" in these games, and admittedly that's why I typically don't play games where you can date (I mean, I'm also aromantic, though you'd never guess it when I latch onto ships like Ignis/Noctis or Jude/Alvin/Milla) UNLESS they're farming games. And I've been a huge RF fan since 2009 when I played RFF so fucking much on my mom's Wii in her living room that my mom started begging me to stop, then finally said, "Take my Wii. Just take it. I don't care if I never get it back." (She didn't. When I moved out, she told me to keep it.) RF4 is my favorite game of all time, but I do admit that I don't care for the romance in that one because I'm busy shipping the MC with Ventuswill and like Meg and Forte, and Dylas and Doug. I'm actually thinking about ways to stream me playing that for ridiculous amounts, since you can level up into the thousands in that game apparently...! (I have never actually finished Sharance Maze.) Anyway. Back to my ship. I LOVE THEM. And I gave them kids. I chose Hana, then Sora, primarily because they were my favorite designs, but also? Hana seems like she keeps her papas on their toes! And Sora seems really sweet too, I just wish his English VA didn't sound so much like a teenager... :( (I am sad I can only give them two, I do think they'd have more if they could, since Cuilang's favorite thing in the world is apparently children, and one of the reasons I latched onto his character so quickly was his kindness regarding them. Making them toys, and especially him telling Subaru to humor Kotaro's pranks! Which is also why I think he'd be fine with a kid that didn't tinker, the way Riku does, but love any type of child and be willing to customize his parenting to their particular energy levels/needs.)

I'm replaying the game, and I think I'll make the EXACT same choices in marriage/children, I just wanted to go over the story and do more farming/ranching instead of the big fancy cityscapes for the four villages that I don't want to dismantle just to redo them... I will also marry Cuilang earlier, I think...! But same kids in the same order. Hana's hair/eyes is perfection, but I worried about Sora with Subaru's eyes/Cuilang's hair... he turned out equally adorable! :D

So I've been looking at other romance events and character profiles in Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma... I play as Subaru, so I got curious to see what his likes and dislikes are if you play as Kaguya and try to gift him things. And I was in for a delightful realization, as a Subaru x Cuilang shipper: Subaru apparently dislikes items like the cans and scrap metals. Cuilang's favorites. When you gift him things, he'll often give you something in return, and it is... usually shit like cans and rare cans. It's hilarious, endearing, and wonderful. Cuilang: "I love and appreciate you, here's a rare can!" Subaru: "...thanks!" Two days later Subaru: "Hey Cuilang, you should have this rare can!" Cuilang: "You're so thoughtful about your gifts!" 🥰 Subaru is absolutely regifting him items back in the earliest part of the relationship, and I'm torn between "no Cuilang never figures it out because Subaru is so fucking smitten with him that he'll tolerate it, or Cuilang finding out and trying to give more thoughtful items further into the relationship. But it's just so cute. He loves these things so much, he wants to share them with his favorite person! WHO HATES THESE THINGS ACTUALLY

while it's definitely fair to not be thrilled about Pilika and Cuilang being DLC romances, I do highly recommend Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma (and I love both of those characters and romanced Cuilang, heavily shipping Subaru x Cuilang over here)

Please consider checking it out, it's like if Rune Factory - a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons spinoff - met Xenoblade and BotW/TotK with a tiny dose of Animal Crossing. I certainly have my own criticisms, and RF4 remains my favorite in the series, but I think this is an excellent introductory to Rune Factory if you've never played!

Maybe out of the blue but have you ever imagined some characters from different universes of yours meeting each other? And who/what would it be like, what parallels maybe would be interesting?

I'll go ahead and answer this one since it's not a prompt! (Work is kicking my ass.) I absolutely think of crossovers, and I also think of characters from the same universe but different books/times meeting one another! I used to think a lot about my characters from other stories meeting up with one another and either arguing or getting along swimmingly. I always felt like Toryn, from my story Cashmere but who was recycled to be Duncan's father in Geckos, Automata (it's never stated in the book tho), would clash with a lot of my characters. Particularly Lester, who has a habit of adopting children and animals, and Toryn... isn't really fond of either. (Backstory is I made an OC, Duncan, realized that's what I named Toryn's kid in an AU where he has an accidental child, and realized they could easily be the same person. Toryn and Duncan are also similar in appearance sooo...!) Uh. Anyway, I think sometimes about Hazel meeting Ambrose, even though he's younger than Ambrose's nephew (who isn't even born yet in Stargazers' Hill). They're from the same universe though! And technically, Ambrose is still alive when Rascal is written... But I mean, I think it'd be neat if they met when they were nearly the same age. (Ambrose was 17 around the time his nephew was born, and Frey's... 32, I think? While Hazel is 26.) I don't think of them as often as I used to, I'll admit. It's kind of a shame. I think I should consider all my -ester suffix named characters together, though. Lester, Esther, Nestor, Chester, Sylvester... I do not think that would end well. Especially when one of them is a massive jerk and another is a serial killer...
