I feel a little hypocritical saying it when I haven't gone all the way with this method yet, but I highly suggest everyone at the very least learn how to buy/use DIY HRT so they're prepared in case official means are no longer acccessible to them. it is obviously not ideal compared to official means to accessing HRT, and we need to defend trans healthcare. do not interpret this as me advocating for "giving up". but when the healthcare system fails us, DIY is an option that everyone has, and it's important to me that people understand that they have options. spending an afternoon reading up on how you'd go about DIY is free and affirming even if you don't need/want to DIY right now.

Make sure they don’t just check your T4, that won’t give you accurate results. A comprehensive thyroid panel, which typically includes TSH, total T3/T4, free T3/4, and thyroid antibodies at minimum is what I would recommend. On top of this, there might be an imbalance between your progesterone and estrogen levels (the former of which is usually not tested) and this imbalance can produce hypothyroid symptoms without showing up (yet) on a thyroid panel. If the thyroid panel comes back normal try adjusting your progesterone levels, if that appears to do nothing, try to ask for a sub-clinical close of thyroid hormone to see if that improves things.

I am pretty dismissive of Art intended for a mass audience that has explicitly political aims because I have internalized the Kurt Vonnegut custard pie quote maybe too much but a lot of times the art is more about reaffirming the creator's beliefs than any attempt to actually persuade. That's not to say that no art ever accomplishes moving the Overton window as it were but just that it's a lot rarer than people would think and it doesn't do as much.
