part of the reason the locked tomb characters are so memorable and complex is because they are very, very weird in the way only writers who understand that every human being is a little freak in their own way. harrow is the standout example of this—she is unnerringly pious to the rites of her religion in a way that to others comes across as zealotry but once we get into her point of view is revealed to be both, yes, because she is a zealot and also because the rituals and safety of painting her face, praying, etc calm her down. she eats penitently because she actually hates strong tastes. she is both schizophrenic and quite literally haunted, facts that recontextualize her behavior in gtn in an important way.

gideon is a butch and this universe’s version of a jock, and the first thing we see her do is try to escape harrow and the ninth and join the army (something that’s forgotten a little too often when people talk about her being “out of character” in ntn) because she wants to have a purpose, but we also come to learn that despite being raised in the literal dreariest place in the solar system she’s funny, sometimes even on purpose. she doesn’t know what a salad is. she reads sleazy porn magazines. she’s a talented swordswoman but is head over heels for every pretty woman she meets, to her own detriment at times.

every character is like this! they feel so real and complex because they have contradictions and weaknesses and opinions and incorrect beliefs and correct ones that are hard to tell the difference between.

I just gonna say to the arcane creator that if you mean Jayvik to look platonic then you Severaly missed the mark.

Honestly I'm like 90 percent sure that it evolved into full tragic romance somewhere down the production line even if it wasn't initially intended, but they didn't feel great about confirming two guys as a couple right before they (ambiguously) die. And even then it comes off as queerplatonic, not straight.

some of my friends and I (hi @merupasse and @cyclopsboxhead) are working on our own little version of the marvel universe a la elseworld or “what if?” and I’ve been rewatching the new timeline xmen movies so naturally I had to do my own little version of Professor X (and a little Magneto) pre-xmen. 

Really enjoyed how XMFC and DOFP reinterpreted the X-Men mythos through the lens of 60s/70s culture and politics, and I wanted to take that and push it even further. Charles’ pacifism fits in nicely with the hippie movement and I’ve been doing a lot of reading on 60s psychedelia lately so I decided to make him a Timothy Leary-type drug guru figure who uses psychedelics to develop his mutant abilities. (There’s a lot of very clear DOFP Charles DNA in this especially vis a vis addiction and telepathy.) Another fringe part of 60s psychedelia I’ve been deeply invested in is self-trepanation (yeah I don’t know either but if you go on your own little research deep dive I think you will understand) which is so perfect for this I couldn’t resist.

Mel semi-dared me to type: “No, leave me alone.” So I have to include it. But in all seriousness, I'll respond this once, because it does allow me to update people a little bit. Though please know that your notification did have me pause mid-writing. Now, I want to politely, and respectfully direct you to my description on both dash-only and on my blog's theme, I also want to point your attention to my pinned post, and I believe that it's even in my rules, but I could be wrong. Though let me repeat it here:

The depictions you'll find here are canon-strict, and so you can expect many analyses of all kinds here, as dissecting the characters that I write is what I'm passionate about, and what I'm here for (and to write, of course!)

I admit, usually I aim to write more threads/asks consistently even if I'm excessively slow, and though I haven't updated the dash about my circumstances for a while (as I'm decently private about my life), know that writing meta has simply come a lot easier lately when time has permitted me to be on Tumblr. Now, that doesn't mean I don't value people's interest in writing with me, and I will live up to the promises that I've made that I will get to that (as I have occasionally done lately, and was in process of doing again)— but when meta comes easier to me, then I prioritize that as of late, simply because stress' best counter is the distraction that comes the easiest. Now this isn't by any means a waste of time, as it plays into what I quoted above. Because ultimately, here's my thing: I make it exceptionally clear everywhere on my blog that I am canon-strict (or as Tumblr, sadly, disrespectfully seems to call it nowadays: a 'lore purist'), and that this leads me to write a lot of analyses left and right on the characters that I write, but these are fundamental to understanding my portrayals of them. If that isn't your cup of tea, sir, or ma'am, then maybe this isn't the blog for you, and I don't mean that with malice, or in disrespect, but simply as a simple rebuke. In that, I greatly appreciate you checking in on behalf of my writing partners, but I'm also quite certain that they have the capacity to approach me themselves if they have any concerns. 🩶: a battle of wills using the mics. jakurai’s love for yotsutsuji manifested in the form of sacrificing himself and dohifu trying to stop him using their love for their bond as mtr. at the end of the track it’s that love that’s saved jakurai, healed hifumi and elevated doppo’s status at work

ARC TAGS: one + two + three

While helping an incarcerated Will Graham recover his memories in an effort to catch the Chesapeake Ripper, Dr. Frederick Chilton attends the occasional chess tournament as an amateur player (~2000 elo). He meets Margot Hemingway—a twenty-three year old college student and chess grandmaster—at one such event. A romantic relationship between the two quickly develops. For varying but legitimate reasons, they both want to keep their relationship private (Dr. Chilton is mostly worried about Margot's safety in regard to the Chesapeake Ripper). However, their relationship is outed to and by the public a month in because astute chess fans notice Margot is constantly playing a user with the handle drchilton on the popular chess.com app.

The chess world is intrigued by their courtship and Dr. Chilton is invited to official, high level tournaments (all GMs or IMs) as a publicity stunt. For the novelty, and knowing he will never receive an invitation through qualified means, he attends one. As expected, he does poorly. But, his interviews while there are wildly charismatic and entertaining and he leaves the event with positive reception in the chess sphere. This spawns tournaments inviting him to come on as a guest commentator. He has yet to accept any offers.

Margot has a brilliant mind. She frequently wins or places high in renowned tournaments. She is also—unbeknownst to Dr. Chilton—a serial killer. For the most part, she kills discriminately and with intent. There is a secret society called The Organization—comprised primarily of old money men and their college student sons—which Margot targets: the college boys are not good people.

Rifat Hordiyenko—an FBI agent Jack Crawford recruits as an under-the-table operative—is tasked with profiling and hunting down the person who murdered Avery: a male college student, a member of The Organization, whom Margot killed. Rifat begins to connect college student deaths together and realizes they often correspond with chess tournament dates and locations. He is slowly discovering the existence of The Organization and honing in on Margot. He gives Margot the moniker the Prep Killer. The FBI has not publicly shared the existence of this new serial killer.

Rifat kills a college student (Kenneth) in an attempt to better understand Margot. He plays in a chess tournament as Kenneth, hoping the Prep Killer might be there. In one match, he is paired with Dr. Chilton. Margot's dark world is bleeding into Dr. Chilton's life. Dr. Chilton remains oblivious to this side of Margot. But for how long?

Think about this - Rhaenyra leaves for 10 days to search for Luke or any sign of him before she finds Arrax's wing and the cloak, and Jace arrives back at Dragonstone AFTER she has. But who sent the raven to the North to get ahold of Jace?

He also probably was doing so well in the Vale and in the North securing the alliances they needed and probably thought that, because Luke's journey was shorter and everyone was so confident that Storm's End would support them, that he was already back at Dragonstone and everything was fine because there had been no news until the worst news.

Travel time for a raven from Dragonstone to Winterfell if 4 days (add a day if Jace is at the Wall per the show for the raven to fly) so 5 days, if the raven was sent immediately (and it likely was, though probably not from Rhaenyra since she probably left immediately). Jace obviously traveled to the Wall with Cregan, which means Vermax was probably still at Winterfell (unless he flew ahead but unlikely as dragons did not like going near the wall and Vermax was young), which means they went by horse, which is 16-22 days of travel time. I suspect Jace was in the North at least 2-3 months after his time in the Vale (probably a week), and Sisteron and White Harbor briefly (like 2-3 days each), so 2 weeks before he gets to Winterfell, where he is for 2-3 months because he is said to have been hunting with Cregan as well, especially when 3 weeks of that was travel BACK to Winterfell so he could return to Dragonstone.

In retrospect, it's only like 55ish hours from Dragonstone to Storm's End on Dragonback, and then how long did Borros wait to send the raven to Rhaenyra at Dragonstone in the first place after Luke was killed by Vhagar and Aemond? How long did Aemond wait to go inside and inform the lord of Storm's End what had occured just outside his walls? He wasn't stupid - he knew that was like to shedding the first blood of the war (who really counts what happened in the small council, especially since that wasn't common knowledge / Aemond wasn't there anyway?).

I haven’t gotten to watch it yet! It came out while I was at work and then I forgot to watch it </3 I was told this one actually has Jayce and Mel in it for like a single shot so finally, one that has even the slightest bit of crumbs for me. I’ll come back to this once I get a chance to watch the new one tho!

thought again how overwhelmingly lonely akira would become after everything while time does its healing. u go from having a twenty-something ppl around u at all times to being alone. no one to knock on ur door in the morning, no ppl going in & out, no chaos of sudden fights. even in the (more likely) case where akira forgets its like. this haunting feeling of having forgotten something u shouldnt have. guy who goes to every social gathering ever to have that chaotic energetic experience of having so many ppl around again

People using websites COSTS those websites money. Users do not directly translate into revenue unless the users are the PRODUCT that the website is selling on to other parties via ads or data harvesting.

Which is to say, the reason AO3 has funding drives is because they're not selling your porn-reading habits on to interested third parties. Please stop saying 'they should just make money like other websites.' I am fairly sure you do not really want them to do that. I certainly don't want them to do that. It's a voluntary drive; if you don't want to give you do not have to. The AO3 IRS won't get you on tax evasion.

Also like. You can care about more than one thing at a time. Your outrage and energy and give-a-damn does not have to focus like a laser on whatever you've deemed The Most Important Current Thing.
