First off: it’s like your avid 2000s sitcom but with art‼️ The Taft’s (and in later seasons, the Wilson’s) are their neighbors and T.R and W.H.T would have silly angry dad neighbor hijinks (and they both hate the Wilsons together), Alice is the popular girl and there was gonna be a whole episode on her affair with William Borah, Kermit is the shy kid that gets into scuffles with Ted jr, Quentin and Archibald are the spoiled younger sibs, Ethel is the neutral younger sister and Edith is the mostly annoyed mom. Okay, several things here:

Griffin as a parallel to Altan; in different but the same way/s, both boys lost their homeland or at least their connection to it. And this has been shown to be a big contributor to their motives. For Altan, his need for revenge was masked by awesome righteousness and a "RAHHH JUSTICE FOR GOTHAM SPEER" attitude; I get a similar sense from Griffin--though Griffin seems a lot less unhinged than Altan.

Griffin as a parallel to Altan is something based on Robin's perspective and view of him but iN mY noT sO HumblE opiNion, I think they are pretty similar, if not the same characters just in different universes and timelines.

Griffin's "RAAAAHHH JUSTICE FOR GOTHAM OPPRESSED PEOPLE" motives/attitude; I'm calling it! I'm calling it! He's gonna go thru a disillusionment phase/moment where he's gonna realize his actions/the Hermes organization is not what he thought it was and then he's gonna go apeshit!

In all seriousness, while he is someone who the audience can actively root for, thiS iS pRobAblY THe saME thiNG We FElt whEN We firsT mET alTAn. And I think anyone who's read the Poppy War trilogy is well aware that rebels who are hot idealists tend to be abusive/downright manipulative with no remorse for their actions, regardless of who they affect. Altan cared about Rin, he still used her. Griffin gives glimpses of care for Robin. And still he uses him. So, as much as I can understand Griffin, I am also hesitant to fully like him because of his actions and what he stands for.

People often talk about the "Heroes would sacrifice you for the world, and villains would sacrifice the world for you" trope/line, but characters like Altan and Griffin are either the exception or the antithesis. Or just straight up the rebuttal to that trope/line. What they do makes them villains and they would gladly sacrifice their loved ones for the world they want to create.

Griffin and Robin's relationship; I can't with doomed siblings. Please bear in mind to whoever reads this that I have not yet finished the book and all of these posts are annotations that I can't leave on the pages because I only borrowed the book. Anyway.

I CANNOT with doomed duos or siblings. It hurts so bad it's good but also ouch. I can smell it from a mile away. Griffin is going to have a moment with Robin where he makes him choose between Babel and the Hermes organization OR JUST STRAIGHT UP HIM and Robin is going to choose him because he'll start having the same ideals as Griffin. It's just a guess but stiLL. ISTg iF thiS hAppENS.

In regards to their relationship as far as I've read, its complexity makes it so much more real. Griffin doesn't know Robin and Robin doesn't know Griffin. They cannot possibly develop a proper fraternal bond because they've been estranged for so long and because of the general dynamic. They don't trust in each other but Griffin is certainly reliant on Robin while Robin is in on his secret society thing because of personal reasons. It's a lose-lose thing as far as I have read.

Okay now to answer your questions. New stuff, nothing much there. I have been writing Rebel and Havenpoint (I should really post the next chapter) really slowly. Writing more chem notes than stories.

Rebel is a part of a series. I still haven't decided if it is going to be a duology or a trilogy. But there will be another book if I have the energy and will to write it.

And I have been concentrating on making two comic strips for my college scholarship. I finished the first one, one more to go.

Long rant below. Like really fucking long. Not joking.

Sacrifice is a placeholder name for my WIP. I haven't decided what its actual name will be. I am really hoping I don't abandon this WIP.

Like I did with Masque, Woven Worlds, Orphic Academy, Timekeepers, Card Thief, Games of the Astute, Mortal Bound, The Playground, After the afterlife (dumb name), Stolen by Silence, etc.

So Sacrifice is an Indian Dark Academia novel.

25 of the best magic users from all over India will be invited to attend a prestigious and mythical academy after they finish 12th grade. So they take this mysterious train ride to another fucking realm where the school is (nobody knows its exact location cause they all faint in the train). Also the academy's architecture will be based off on Indian architecture throughout the ages, so I am currently researching on that when I get time.

The students have a year to conduct a study in the academy. They will have access to all sorts of ancient scriptures and previous alumni's studies. At the end of the year the Dean will see what they worked on. If the dean is impressed by you project they will tell you the secret of life and death magic. The Dean is never impressed. If they fail to impress the Dean they go home with absolutely nothing and they would forget the place.

However, the people who went back home with nothing went mad after a while and killed themselves. Their minds are not able to process the magical place they had just been to. Being at the academy also manages to mess with the minds of a person. It drives them a bit crazy. Some people have suicided there or have killed somebody else. The students don't know this.

Spoilers after this point.

So a group of six students join together and decide to help each other with their projects so they can get the secret. One of the group finds out about the whole madness thing and tells the others about it.

Now each of the six students has a hamartia (tragic flaw). From jealousy to manipulative. This is actually a small experiment from my side because the main characters are not good people, so I am gonna try and make them likable. Its going to be so hard.

Anyways desperate and power hungry the group decides to find the secret themselves and steal the academy's resources and escape before the end of the year.

The others fearful of dying/going mad start to push the limits of their magic. They experiment with things that they are not supposed to experiment with. 

With every experiment their hamartia takes over. They start going mad. They become a fucking cult. They start to sacrifice the other students to ancient gods (in true ancient fashion) and become more powerful. Once all the students are gone they start killing each other and the last one left ends up destroying the academy along with themself trying to become the most powerful being.

enemies to friends-ish to enemies to lovers, mc is a badass and the li is so in love (hes also a menace but mc kinda covers that lmao)

this is a 3 book series with a new series that just dropped that happens after the events of these 3 books

the order is: the cruel prince, the wicked king, the queen of nothing, stolen heir (the new book) but there are also books you can read in between (that i havent read myself)

by far the best book series ive read, i would sell my soul to read it again for the first time

circe - madelline miller

this is a story about circe, a godess (i think) from greek myth. the writing was beautiful, but since its myth, if youre not interested i dont reccomend

now listen, i didnt actually read these two books but in the tv show the two series are shown at the same time and i like the characters in this one more

the idea is the same as percy jackson, except this time its about egyptian gods instead (also techically mc isnt a child of the gods)

it has 3 books, with extra crossover books w pjo (that are also really good once you have the basics)

the midnight library - matt haig

i'm actually not sure what category this falls into.

mc has an accident and ends up at a library at exactly midnight, where the weird librarian tells her that this library is her life (of sorts). basically each book in the library is how her life couldve been like based on some decisions she made

and she keeps going to these other versions of her life by reading the books until she realizes hey, she wants to live, and goes back to her original life

not my favorite, but still an okay one

dune - frank herbert

this is a classic, but it was really good

i dont remember the details, all i really remember was that i had sth for the mc

fr tho its really good, give it a go if long books dont intimidate you

this book is so well written istg

mc is a child, first of all. and i dont mean like a teen i mean shes 8 max, shes a literal child but its okay bc there isnt that much action in this one

the main idea of the book is about how precious time is, but its told through such an interesting way. there are time thieves that steal other people's time to live, making it look like theyre helping people save time on mundane things, and momo stops them (not in an insane way i promise)

the secret garden - frances hodgson burnett

this is a classic, but dont let that fool you this is a really well written book

this one has almost no action in it btw

mc is also a child here (shes maybe 12 at most), she moves into the mansion of her uncle after her family dies where she starts to behave like an actual child instead of some spoiled princess/lh

so one day while going on a stroll in the garden area (?) bc no one is there to take care of her now, she finds a secret garden and decides hey since no one seems to care for this garden, this is mine now

also there are other children that she befriends along the way that help her w the garden

if I'm being honest I have no fucking clue what it was originally - I first read the trilogy at age 10-11ish and I distinctly recall getting that specific ship-based neuron activation going on despite it not making any sense at all at that time to me

but right now as an adult, I'm finding myself deeply fascinated by the apparent psychological depth of their fucked up relationship, and the amazing ways they push and pull each other. granted, it might mostly be cause of the fantastic work the writers in this fandom do (lbr pullman has not given us all that much), but I can't recall any other ship I've ever been invested in with this kind of twisted, soul-wrenching, all-or-nothing kind of a dynamic. it's just?? so fun and addictive to think about??? there's so much to unpack and explore there, and I just can't get enough arghhh

I also kinda sorta think it might be some sort of weird escapism-like mechanism based on how my own life is? like when I myself was a sad little lonely blob I was prone to get invested in ships whose dynamics were ultimately cute and healthy. now that I've been in a healthy, stable relationship for a long time, I seem crave content that explores fucked up, dysfunctional relationships with a larger-than-life, albeit destructive kind of love. I can't think of any ship fitting this criterium better than masriel lmao

also they're fucking hot and the smut writers in this fandom are literally insane istg yall write the best sex scenes ive seen in my almost 15 years of reading m-rated fic

I don't really know what's unpopular and what isn't, but judging by the majority of fic I've read it seems that people headcanon them literally just going at it the moment they first meet and being unable to keep their hands off each other. and while yes, HOT, I do prefer depictions of their younger years with a more slow-burn approach - you know, angsty glances, self-restraint against everything, and - I cannot stress this enough - the attraction being intellectual even more so than physical. give me all your scholars falling for each other over mutual work au's
