SUMMARY: The call to be a Pro Hero has never been a question—not for Katsuki Bakugou, explosive and guarded, nor for Izuku Midoriya, protective and determined, and certainly not for Shouto Todoroki, who’s family legacy hangs over him like a shadow. Years after the War that upended Hero Society, these three men have helped rebuild a path to Pro Heroism for the next generation, tentatively heralding a new era of hope. But there’s danger lurking in this rebuilt world, danger that has the power to rekindle old fears and usher in new resentments, and as the trio branch out to find and end these threats, they each encounter a new challenge along the way—colliding with someone unexpected, and falling in love.
(A Pro Hero x Reader Trilogy; in which falling in love is a random chance all at once chaotic and exhilarating and incredible, for each of the Big Three)
The premise is simple: three heroes, three fics, and three different lives to live. Named for the Katy Perry song, The One That Got Away, the In Another Life trilogy was originally intended to be a series of five stand-alone fics that evolved, fairly quickly, into what we have today: three interconnected stories that let our Reader-inserts move throughout the My Hero Academia world, and eventually find where—and who with—they belong.
Started in 2020 when the manga was still on-going, the fics have diverged from the canon Horikoshi’s given us both in small and large ways. Despite where they separate (and where the fics have to stay faithful to their own canon, now), it’s always been my hope that they read like the love letters they are—to My Hero, to the boys, and to x reader fic at large.

Dynamight's type
Izuku has noticed that whenever someone asks Katsuki's certain questions during interviews he gets really irritated; it's usually things about love and relationships that bother him the most.
It's one of the many reasons why Izuku hasn't told his best friend he likes him romantically; maybe Katsuki is not interested in romance at all or he just hates sharing his love life with the world.
Although it's not like Izuku ever thought he had a chance; he probably doesn't. Sometimes he thinks about looking for someone to start a relationship with.
"Let's move in together," Katsuki tells him for the... actually, Izuku has lost count of how many times he has told him that.
But Izuku always thinks he doesn't mean it because it doesn't make sense.
"Why?"
"Just because..." Katsuki says this time, looking particularly frustrated.
"We don't have the need to," Izuku points out, getting a little bit confused by his friend's response.
"I know."
"Kacchan... what if one of us starts dating soon? Wouldn't that be–"
The look Katsuki throws at him is enough to make Izuku shut up immediately; the other pro hero not only looks angry, he also seems hurt.
"Are you seeing someone?" The way Katsuki asks the question makes it look like each word is hurting him somehow.
"No, but–"
"I'm not going to start dating an extra!" Katsuki growls and, as usual, he walks away more irritated than when the day started.
Izuku honestly doesn't get it.
However, he usually goes back to normal when his patrol begins.
Until a reporter finds him after an incident; just right the moment after Katsuki and Izuku manage to save a group of people from a villain.
Actually, there are a couple of reporters, one of them even tries to corner Izuku and instead of asking him about the villain or the civilians, she asks Izuku about romance.
Alright, Izuku has started to get why Katsuki gets irritated at those type of questions.
"Are you dating someone at the moment, Deku?" The young woman asks, smiling at him and using one of her fingers to play with her own hair.
Izuku doesn't understand; is she nervous?
"Uhh... no."
"That's great!"
Not that far from him, one of the reporters is asking about Katsuki's type... again.
"So what would your ideal date be, Deku?" The reporter manages to draw Izuku's attention away from his friend.
"Maybe an amusement park? Sharing a crepe?" The green haired hero doesn't mean to make it sound like a question, but interviews always make him feel flustered.
"That'd be a perfect date for me too!" The girl says. "Would you like to–"
"DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW MY FUCKING TYPE?" Katsuki's loud voice cuts off the reporter who's interviewing Izuku.
"Of course, Dynamight!" It's a good thing most of the reporters are used to Katsuki's explosive personality already.
Instead of answering right away, Katsuki gets closer to Izuku and to everyone's surprise, grabs the other pro hero's freckled face and kisses him on the lips.
"There. That's my type!" Katsuki growls as Izuku's face turns completely pink. "Him. Only this nerd. Now, fuck off!"
The female reporter who was asking Izuku questions looks particularly upset about what happened, although it seems like she's a little bit reluctant to go... but she does anyway when she notices Katsuki is glaring at her.
Izuku doesn't get his hopes up, because it's obvious that Katsuki only wanted them to stop asking questions about his love life.
"But Kacchan... they're going to think we are–"
"Move in with me."
"Why?"
It feels like this is not the moment to have the same conversation all over again, but there's something different in Katsuki's eyes this time; he looks determined.
"Because I'm in love with you, oblivious nerd!"
Izuku's face is on fire, he's sure of it; Katsuki just told him he loved him. It almost seems like it's a dream.
"Are you sure, Kacchan?" His voice doesn't sound shaky at all, which is something Izuku feels ridiculously proud of.
"Of course I am! Wouldn't be asking you if I wasn't!"
After a heartbeat in which Izuku thinks about all the time they've been together and tells himself this is going to work, he nods.
"Let's move in together, Kacchan."
Just a year later, Katsuki proposes to him and of course, Izuku can't help but tear up. He's never been so happy before.

Cheerleader!Deku x jock!Bakugou but hear me out…it’s sapphic…
Izuku with a cute high pony and bows, wearing her girlfriend’s team jacket over her cheer uniform. It’s big and warm and smells like Kacchan and Izuku steals it any chance she can get. Katsuki with short hair and muscles… idk what sport she’d play but she’s playing one of them and she’s 100% the star player. Team captain type vibes probably. A hot head on the field but then Izuku is running up to her and her scowl drops, replaced with the most whipped expression the team has ever seen.
Or Katsuki “hanging out” (standing around silently) with her team, only half listening to the conversation. She sees green hair out of the corner of her eye and her expression softens, eyes light up. She walks away abruptly to her friends calling after her, but she doesn’t hear them. Katsuki throws her arm over Izuku’s shoulders, startling the poor girl. The other girls on the cheer team giggle and excuse themselves, leaving the two lovebirds alone.
I’d write something with this but I don’t actually know anything about sports, might draw it one of these days tho. Idk I think it’s cute.

Plus One For All
so guys. can we talk about how there’s somebody chilling out inside of Katsuki’s mind who’s not supposed to be there.
Tumblr media
hello there Mister All Might Vestige sir. you should not exist, just FYI. you’re not some Nighteye-type plot hallucination. because if you were, you would not be appearing here as Cloud Might, a version of yourself whom Katsuki has never met and has no frame of reference for. ergo he did not imagine you. ergo you are, in fact, real.
which means Katsuki has One For All.
because that’s the only way he could have a Vestige -- which is indisputably what this is -- inside of him. he has OFA. so. where did he get it. how does he have it. and why is it only making its presence known now.
let’s discuss.
okay so I’m going to try and lay this all out as clearly as possible while also attempting to be as succinct as I can. but knowing me, I’m probably going to wind up sacrificing the latter in pursuit of the former. I’ll do my best though. here goes.
1. Heroes Rising is canon.
which is a fact we’ve recently been reminded of not once, but twice -- first with the appearance of Katsuma and Mahoro in chapter 405, and then in chapter 406 with the “Bakugou no Kacchan” callback. the timing of this almost certainly isn’t coincidental. Horikoshi wants this to be fresh in our minds.
mind you, it is extremely unusual for movies, even technically!canon ones, to actually be relevant to the plot. but BnHA may be one of the few exceptions. we’ve already seen movie 1 impact the series both with Star & Stripe’s backstory, and with Deku’s new gauntlets. so there’s precedent, and it’s something I am paying very close attention to.
2. Deku giving OFA to Bakugou is canon.
just in case anyone here hasn’t yet seen or been spoiled for Heroes Rising, that is in fact what happens in that film! so yeah, that certainly seems like an extremely relevant detail right about now.
3. we never found out why and how Deku got OFA back at the end of the movie.
okay so I was looking for a clip to link before we discuss this next part, but I unfortunately couldn’t find one that hadn’t been edited to avoid copyright issues, so you’ll just have to make do with this.
skip ahead to about 7:10 for the relevant part. for the purposes of this theory, we’re just going to ignore everything All Might says here, because tbh he has no fucking clue what’s actually going on and is just guessing wildly lol. however, I do want you to take note of one thing which will be important later. and that’s the fact that, when OFA “returns” to Deku’s body, it’s only his body which starts glowing, and notably not Kacchan’s. the latter just keeps lying there unglowingly. nothing to indicate any kind of transfer is actually happening between him and Deku, in other words.
moving on.
4. OFA and AFO are probably the same quirk.
as summarized here and here. which is relevant because if they are the same quirk, or close to it, then OFA can most likely do anything AFO can do. so file that away for later.
5. AFO was able to split his quirk and give it to Tomura while still keeping a piece of it for himself.
what’s more, he was able to do the same with Garaki/Ujiko’s quirk, and presumably other quirks as well. while it’s possible that this quirk duplication has nothing to do with AFO and is simply something Garaki was able to figure out using ~*~Science~*~, I think it’s more likely that the two of them used AFO’s quirk in some way to accomplish this feat. particularly since Tomura not only received AFO, but a bunch of its stored up quirkdata as well, such as the information stored in Ragdoll’s stolen Search quirk.
6. OFA responds to Deku’s feelings and desires.
or at least this is the case according to Banjou in chapter 213. recall this interesting conversation on how Deku first activated Blackwhip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he was thinking that he wanted to capture Monoma, and so OFA obediently activated his “capture Monoma” quirk. despite him being unaware he even had said quirk. it responded to his need, even though he wasn’t consciously trying to activate anything.
now then, let’s revisit that scene in Heroes Rising one more time.
7. during the climax of Heroes Rising, Deku was NOT thinking, “I need to give OFA to Kacchan.”
here’s the scene one more time for reference. this time you’re gonna want to skip to about 3:57.
here’s where we are going to get extremely technical, because this scene right here is the key to everything. Deku’s lines in this scene are, and I quote: “a way we can protect [everyone]... there’s just one way...!” but he very notably does not specify exactly what that “one way” is.
until we get to this scene a minute or so later, which spells it out for us very clearly.
Tumblr media
two One For Alls. as in, “with two One For Alls, we could win this battle and save everyone.”
that’s what he was thinking at the moment of the “transfer.” NOT, “give OFA to Kacchan.” but, “we need two One For Alls.”
which, I think, may have made all the difference.
8. OFA created a copy of itself to share with Kacchan, so that both of them could have OFA and use the two OFAs to defeat Nine.
let’s recap. OFA is AFO. AFO can clone itself. so it stands to reason that OFA can presumably clone itself as well. and that’s exactly what Deku wanted to do. make a second One For All.
he didn’t know that he could do that. but as previously established in the Blackwhip incident, OFA is more than capable of making its own executive decisions in key moments just like this in order to help him out.
which would mean that what we saw at the end of Heroes Rising was not OFA being transferred from Bakugou back over to Deku. it was actually just Deku’s OFA briefly self-activating (possibly in response to his delirious apology to All Might -- kind of a “no worries bro, you’ve still got your quirk actually, so go back to sleep and stop stressing over it” type of thing). and Kacchan’s OFA doing... absolutely nothing. it didn’t actually transfer back into Deku. it didn’t actually go anywhere.
let me repeat that: it didn’t actually go anywhere.
in other words, Kacchan still has OFA. and has had it ever since Heroes Rising. he just didn’t realize it. and neither did anybody else.
9. Kacchan’s OFA went dormant once Nine was defeated.
okay, so. remember all of this exposition from chapter 304?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically, if someone who already has a quirk receives OFA, using it will slowly destroy their body until it kills them. the Vestiges learned this from All Might while he was researching the past generations of OFA in chapter 241, incidentally. Heroes Rising takes place right around this same time (immediately following MVA if I recall). so by the time the film’s climax rolled around, the Vestiges would have known that giving OFA to Kacchan could have devastating consequences down the line if they did not take action immediately after the fight.
so they did.
once Nine was defeated, the Vestiges shut the whole thing down. the crisis was averted, and they no longer had need of a second OFA. they have this boy who is way too similar to Deku in terms of his willingness to put himself in harm’s way in order to achieve his goals. and they absolutely do not want any harm befalling this boy. more on that momentarily.
so they go dark. and they even seal his memory so that he’s no longer aware of even having the quirk. they are essentially in sleep mode. and if circumstances hadn’t eventually become desperate enough to force their hand, they might have remained inactive for the rest of Katsuki’s life.
now, you might be wondering to yourself, “why is OFA willing to go to such unusual lengths in order to protect Katsuki?” and well, the answer to that is pretty simple.
10. Kacchan does not have the same version of OFA as Deku.
Deku is ninth gen. Katsuki, however, is tenth gen. which means that his version of OFA has one additional Vestige. a Vestige whose presence immediately explains why OFA is so goddamn determined to protect him at all costs.
Tumblr media
:’)
long story short, while Deku’s version of OFA has proven itself all too willing to enable him in his increasingly suicidal mission, Katsuki’s version of OFA is very much a different story, on account of it being under the management of what I’m guessing is the most willful Vestige ever to exist. and said management being just the slightest bit unhinged when it comes to Katsuki’s safety in particular. seriously, you can’t tell me this is not exactly how a Deku!Vestige would behave. “oh hell no. no OFA for you!! and no memories either, because you can’t be trusted, goddammit. we never should have done this. what the hell were we thinking. if anything happens to him I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.”
so yeah. dormant.
right up until they literally couldn’t afford to be anymore.
11. OFA can self-activate in moments of crisis to protect its user.
Sports Festival. chapter 33. Deku vs. Shinsou.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aw yeah. it’s all coming together.
12. OFA reactivated itself in order to save Katsuki’s life.
I would now like to briefly draw your attention to this scene from chapter 405, in which Edgeshot explains how Katsuki was finally saved. please note my man is very clear that he did not restart Katsuki’s heart himself. he was basically just performing quirk CPR up until Katsuki’s own quirk returned him to life apropros of nothing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“what brought you back... was the power you’ve honed.”
except... that should have been impossible. because Katsuki was dead. meaning he should not have been able to activate his quirk on his own, on account of the whole “being dead” thing.
however, if he by chance had a quirk with just enough of a mind of its own to activate in critical situations in order to help its user. situations like being forced under mind control. or, perhaps, being stabbed through the heart. well then. that would certainly go a long way towards explaining all of this.
and oh hey, when exactly was it that we saw this guy, again?
Tumblr media
oh? it happened at the exact moment when his heart was stabbed through? you don’t say. well that certainly is interesting.
in summary:
Deku cloned his quirk in Heroes Rising and gave Kacchan a copy of OFA. owing to the hyperprotective Deku!Vestige inside Kacchan’s copy of OFA, it shut itself down once Nine was defeated, and all of Katsuki’s memories of having OFA were deliberately wiped, or sealed away. OFA itself remained inactive until TomurAFO stabbed Katsuki through the heart, at which point OFA was forced to reactivate itself to save his life. which it did, by forcibly restarting his heart.
that’s it. no idea how close to the money any of this is, but I think it would explain most of the lingering mysteries and questions about what exactly is going on with Katsuki. and I’ll throw in one last observation as well -- Katsuki has a nine in his name (BaKUgou), but not a ten. which I know sort of contradicts what I was saying earlier about him being the tenth gen, lol. but he both is and isn’t. if Deku split his quirk, Kacchan would in theory receive everything that’s currently in Deku’s quirk right now, and that includes Deku’s own power that he’s been adding to the mix. so he’d still have the Deku!Vestige. but he’s also still ninth gen, because he and Deku are sharing that distinction now. or at least I think the argument could be made at any rate.
so yeah. I’ve been obsessing over all of this for the past few days lol. what do you guys think?

Let's Talk About the Bakugou Problem
I've been enjoying the Bakugou slander here on Tumblr, but I haven't come across anyone that gets to the root of the problem with Bakugou's character yet. I think it goes further than him having anger issues, being annoying, or even how violent and abusive he is. Why I think Bakugou is a bad character is due to the effect he has on the plot, world-building, and the rest of the characters. There's a lot of layers here, so I'd like to take the time to talk as in-detail as I can while typing on mobile.
*Note: I'll be following the anime as it's easier for me to follow and pick specific examples. Manga readers if you have anything to add I'd love to hear it, even if it's against what I've listed here*
*Note: Bakugou fans you're more than welcome to read, though I warn you might not like what you see. I tried to keep this as constructive as I could without letting my own biases seep in (whether I succeeded is up for debate) so that everyone could read it whether you like Bakugou or not. I'm fine with criticism towards my points, I only ask that you remain respectful. I won't engage with anyone who disrespects me or other users*
1. Consequences
This is a big one among Bakugou critics, so I think it's a pretty good place to start. Bakugou has almost never faced actual consequences to his actions (there's a difference between something bad that happens to happen to him and the world around him not accepting his behavior). There are two instances that I can think of that there was a direct ramification to something Bakugou has done. The first was during the Deku vs Kacchan fight where Bakugou does get suspended for four days while Izuku gets suspended for three days. The other is when he and Todoroki fail the provisional licensing exam. However, there's a problem with these two instances I mentioned.
With the D vs K fight, Bakugou was the one who goaded Izuku out of the dorms and instigated a fight. Izuku was trying to get him to go back to the dorms so they could settle their "issue" under adult supervision. He was trying to do the responsible thing. For Izuku to only receive a day less of punishment seems unfair. Though, you could make the case that he should have ignored Bakugou, it's still very clear that one was way more at fault than the other and there was barely a difference in their punishment.
The provisional licensing exam actually did well with failing Bakugou. It was almost a great lesson; that he can't say and do whatever he wants and expect the world to roll over for him. Unfortunately, it's undermined by Todoroki failing as well. Yes, Todoroki failed because of Inasa. But a) Inasa attacked him first which should have resulted in disqualification (what was Todoroki supposed to do, not fight back when he was being assaulted?) and b) Inasa's entire character seems shoehorned into the story. He doesn't really add anything to Todoroki's character as most of his problems with Todoroki were already resolved back in season 2. He also contributes nothing to the overall story. Shindou, for example, has a hand in testing 1A and forces them to work together congruently. Inasa seems like he was put in the story simply to make Todoroki fail. Why does Todoroki have to fail? Because Bakugou does.
It seems like Horikoshi always softens the blow for Bakugou in a way, if he's dealt any blow at all. By not allowing Bakugou to face consequences on his own, he might as well not be facing them at all.
Why are consequences so important? Because Bakugou's privilege is a problem.
I don't think I've seen anyone address this. The root of Bakugou's behavior comes from the fact that he was allowed to do all those terrible things because the world around him was tolerant of it. Teachers turned a blind eyes when he bullied Izuku because he had a great quirk and Izuku was quirkless. He's allowed to do and say whatever he wants because he has a great quirk. While people seem to be harder on Izuku because of either having no quirk or not being able to fully control his quirk. This is a huge part of the story that was set up in the beginning, but was almost never addressed despite being persistent throughout. And it's the most present with Aizawa.
Bakugou attempts to attack a fellow student the first day of class? Simply restrained, no repercussions. Bakugou uses excessive force against a classmate despite his teacher telling him to stop? Nothing more than a few not-so-nice words. Bakugou assaults his partner and refuses to cooperate? No words at all.
Now look at Izuku. Doesn't have full control of his quirk? His teacher attempts to humiliate and expel him in front of his classmates on the first day of class. Saves a classmate in an admittedly risky rescue mission? Said teacher proclaims he lost his trust and labels him a problem child (despite the orchestrator of said mission- Kirishima- being in the same room and not getting spoken to at all).
(I don't know if Aizawa's projecting, but pandering to the kid with the strong quirk while simultaneously disliking All Might isn't a great look.)
Even before UA, Bakugou is praised by the heroes for his strong quirk against the sludge villain despite the fact that his quirk made everything worse while Izuku is scolded even though they were the ones who did nothing while he did what he could to save someone.
"All men aren't created equal." That's one of Izuku's very first lines and a central point of the story. It's something you expect it to address multiple times, especially in regards to Izuku and Bakugou. But Bakugou being spared from consequences every single time he does something terrible means that the statement is validated, but the problem still persists and is never rectified or solved. Even if you think Bakugou "changed," that doesn't make his privilege go away.
2. Plot Compensation
The story goes out of its way to make Bakugou seem like a better person than he is.
My first example is the Sports Festival, specifically his fight with Uraraka. In this fight, Bakugou is met with booing from the audience for not going easy on her. And right off the bat, this is weird. Because not only have we never seen this attitude toward women heroes before or after this, the show is trying to tell us something when Aizawa tears the crowd down. Almost as if saying, "The crowd is dumb and wrong and if you think like the crowd, you're dumb and wrong." Aizawa claims that Bakugou is treating Uraraka like a real opponent by not going easy on her.
...is he though?
Because we never see Bakugou stand still in a fight like he does with her. Bakugou's fighting style relies a lot on mobility. During his fight with Tokoyami, who he knew he had an advantage over because of the light from his quirk, he isn't standing still. During his fight with Todoroki he isn't standing still. He only does this with Uraraka. Because this isn't Bakugou showing respect, it's him still looking down on her. He doesn't see her as a serious opponent, just an obstacle in his way.
And I know this sounds like a bold claim. But if you recall, Bakugou immediately confronts Izuku after the fight and accuses him of giving Uraraka the idea she used during their match. He assumes it was a ploy from Izuku, implying that he didn't think Uraraka capable of coming up with a plan with the potential to work against him. This isn't respect for an opponent.
(Note: the only thing in Bakugou's favor is it's probably not because she's a girl. He just naturally looks down on everyone who doesn't immediately stand out to him with a show of power like Todoroki)
Then we have the revered scene with the League or Villains.
This scene is praised because it "subverts expectations." That the violent, angry kid doesn't want to be a villain. He wants to be a noble hero. Aizawa- again- silences claims against Bakugou, citing that he wants to win and he knows he can't do that if he's a villain.
My thing is, however, the League targeting him in the first place. Why would they do this? Bakugou clearly has a heroic quirk. He scored first on the entrance exam. If they did any research at all beforehand, they would know that Bakugou was at the top of his class before UA and is in the top five currently. And they'd know he has wealthy parents.
(You would think Dabi especially would draw parallels to Endeavor and would be aware that Bakugou's ambition and heroic quirk don't make him similar to the League who have been discriminated against, shunned, and abused for most of their lives. Even with his behavior at the Sports Festival, Endeavor isn't the noble and kind type like All Might and most other heroes. So I'm not sure why Bakugou's behavior immediately screamed villain potential)
Nothing about him suggests he's had a hard life like most of the League. Nothing about him suggests he'd want to leave his comfortable life and secured future to become a villain.
This scene sets up Bakugou's redemption, right? It leads us to the Deku vs Kacchan fight and All Might's advice is what makes him take on his "save to win" mentality.
But not only does this seem like a convenient plot device, it decidedly ignores the uglier part of Bakugou's decision.
Bakugou rejected the LOV because he saw them as losers. But what if they hadn't been losers? What if they had been doing as well as they were at the end of season 5? Merging and becoming the MLA front, organized teams, wealthy, successfully recruiting members right under the heroes' noses.
Maybe Bakugou wouldn't have outright joined them. But at this point before shifting his perspective, his answer might have been very different.
But the story goes out of its way to hammer in Bakugou's scarce good traits to take your focus away from his overwhelming bad ones.
3. Bakugou's Character Shift "Development"
The way Horikoshi wrote Bakugou in the beginning is very different to how he is portrayed later in the show. No, I don't mean his development. I mean the major shift in his character between seasons 1/2 and season 3/4.
Bakugou in the beginning of the show is cruel, meanspirited, and violent. And he's still all of those things throughout the show. The one difference is that it's played for laughs in later seasons.
Bakugou's actions and words in seasons 1 and 2 are portrayed a lot more serious than in later seasons. He's an antagonistic force, one that Izuku has to strive to overcome not just to be a good hero, but for himself as Bakugou has been one of the most prominent obstacles in his strive to become a hero.
Look at his behavior during the battle trials. It's something serious, something that has even All Might worried. Bakugou knew he could have very well killed Midoriya and didn't care. It's brutal and almost hard to watch because at this point in the show Midoriya is weak and tiny (visually, we know he's never really been weak) compared to Bakugou and can really only outsmart him to win.
We never see Bakugou display anything close to this level of violence in later seasons. Not in the Sports Festival or 1A vs 1B or D vs K or the licensing exam or even against literal villains. Season 1 went out of its way to show Bakugou's cruel behavior even using it as something Izuku has to learn how to overcome even if he has to risk everything.
By season 3, the perspective has changed. Bakugou name calling people, belittling people, yelling, and his acts of violence are now exaggerated for comedy. None of his actions are taken as seriously as they were before, despite some being almost or just as bad.
(It's worth mentioning that this was also around the time Bakugou began to get popular among fans)
A great example of this is in season 5 when he throws his headpiece at Izuku and makes him bleed. His casual act of his aggression towards his lifelong victim is present to make the audience laugh, despite the fact that Izuku was bleeding and the 1A boys are (rightfully) horrified.
(I'd like to add that there was no real reason to do this. Nothing he was saying would have exposed OFA and even if it had, he was done talking by the time Bakugou threw it)
If Bakugou had really changed at this point, this would have never happened in the first place. I can't call this changing or development, I call this his actions shifting into comedic relief and away from the serious connotations they previously held. By taking that away, it allows Bakugou to continue to do the same things he has all his life while under the guise of development. It undermines what's supposed to be his redemption arc.
4. Other Characters
Bakugou isn't the only one who gets a character shift. It's approximately the moment that Bakugou begins to get more attention that the other characters lose the substance they had at the beginning of the show.
The ones hit most notably by this are obviously Uraraka and Iida. They were Izuku's first friends, his original trio. More than that, they are set up as interesting characters with their own arcs and paths for becoming great heroes.
Even though I did have my complaints about her fight with Bakugou in the Sports Festival, it does turn Uraraka onto improving past her goal of becoming a rescue hero. She wants to become better in other aspects of being a hero so that she can succeed and keep up with her stronger classmates. She proved herself capable of this during her fight with Bakugou and it was the catalyst of her character development.
Iida was not only resolving himself with caring for Midoriya as a friend as well as being his rival and wanting to surpass him. There's also this darker side to him that no one expects from goody two shoes, straight-laced Iida that had so much potential for exploration.
Both of them are tossed to the side in favor of Bakugou. I would even go as far as to say that after season 2, they're almost irrelevant until season 6 and even then they're limited (before season 6 Uraraka's only character trait is that she ignores he feelings for Midoriya to become a better hero, which came out of nowhere and does nothing for her character). And they barley ever get moments with Izuku during time despite being his first friends.
Todoroki is a similar yet very different case. At the beginning of the show, he was intense and has strong feelings. (An interesting parallel is that if Iida was his friend becoming his rival, Todoroki was his rival becoming his friend and both relationships speak to Izuku as a character) Even if he didn't express them, we as the audience knew they were there. But as times passes he becomes flat and dull. Even though he's supposed to be part of the new trio, he's barley present (the dynamic between the three of them is uninteresting all around as it's basically Bakugou yelling at Izuku with Todoroki in the background. They never have any deep or heartfelt moments nor do they have good chemistry) and barely gets any one-on-one interaction with Izuku despite them being very good friends.
(I can't blame this all on Bakugou as the show also shifts from focusing to Todoroki to focusing on his own abuser which is part of the issue with his lack of character, but Bakugou's character does contribute to this problem of making the abusers more sympathetic than the victims)
Most if not the rest of 1A fade into the background after this, save for a few who have notable moments sprinkled in throughout the show. You can take this as a Bakugou prevalence problem, or it can be seen as Horikoshi just not knowing how to balance characters.
However, the character that suffers the most because of this is Izuku himself.
I don't think it's a bad thing that Izuku admires or looks up to Bakugou. I don't think it's a problem that he doesn't see anything wrong with Bakugou's behavior against him. Izuku grew up in an environment where that was normalized. That he's worthless because of his lack of quirk and Bakugou deserves to be on top because of his great quirk. Of course he internalized that, even though he knows that a quirk doesn't determine someone's worth. He was never given the tools or the means to beat that mindset.
What I despise is the fact that everyone around him enables it.
As I stated above, Aizawa is definitely the worst when it comes to this. Not only shoving Bakugou and Izuku together and making it Izuku's job to get Bakugou to cooperate, but hardly if ever condemning Bakugou when he lashes out against Izuku. Even without their history, what Bakugou does is wrong and should be treated as such.
Unfortunately and even though I love All Might, he's also guilty of this. It's true that he might not know the full extent of their toxic relationship, but All Might sees Bakugou instigate a fight with Izuku and decides it's okay to tell Bakugou about One For All. Bakugou did nothing to earn this honor: he hasn't shown Izuku support and hasn't been a reliable ally he could depend on. But even disregarding that, Bakugou had just been captured by villains who work for All For One. He was the last person on Earth who should have been entrusted with this secret.
The adults in Izuku's life enable and reward Bakugou's bad behavior and urge them into forming a relationship and partnership that frankly shouldn't exist (and only does to make Bakugou a better person and hero, it does nothing for Izuku). It's to the point where almost Izuku's entire character revolves around his relationship with Bakugou and how he improves because of it and how he helps Bakugou improve. And he further projects this when he "subtly" implies that Todoroki should forgive Endeavor, which feels like a justification towards the audience of his own feelings towards Bakugou.
5. Accountability
I mentioned consequences as my first point. But what many who want this miss, it goes hand-in-hand with accountability.
Unlike consequences, Bakugou more or less does take accountability in the form of his apology. But the apology was lackluster for a couple of reasons. The main thing is that it feels like a list of excuses rather than simply owning up to the fact that he was shitty and there's really no good reason for it. But simply explaining why you hurt the person you hurt isn't giving them the apology they deserve. It's making it about you.
Another thing, though, is that the apology is very scarce. It skips over the worst of Bakugou's actions. Nothing he said was anything 1A didn't already know. They don't know about the s*icide baiting which is one of the worst things he's done to Izuku (and that's only what we saw, who knows what Bakugou's been saying for years?). It also ignores everything he did in UA, which was a very big part of the problem. He treated Izuku poorly months prior to the apology and that shouldn't be ignored.
As far as accountability goes this apology isn't that great. But it's something. No, what's worse is that the other characters don't hold Bakugou accountable.
The other characters more often than not turn a blind eye to Bakugou's behavior. We've already covered Aizawa, but the rest of 1A is guilty of this too. No one says anything about the Battle Trials. Hardly anyone condemns Bakugou when he attacks or insults Izuku. Sometimes they'll chime in like Uraraka or Kirishima, but other than that no one outright tells him off. This is out of character for Iida in particular because he's such a stickler about rules and courtesy for others (he literally told off a six year old when he punched Izuku and tried to stop Mineta from perving on the girls, why wouldn't he do the same when it comes to Bakugou?). It's almost like the characters are blind to Bakugou's behavior.
What's weirder is that Mina and Kirishima- who were both stated to hate bullying- are friends with him. Why would the show go out of its way to tell us this only to saddle them into the "BakuSquad?" It doesn't make sense.
It's hypocritical that everyone in 1A is so tolerant of Bakugou but get annoyed with others; like Monoma for example. Or even Mineta because as much as I dislike him he's constantly being called out by 1A. It means that they know certain behavior is wrong and/or shouldn't be entertained, so we know they aren't completely unaware. But the fact that they largely ignore Bakugou's behavior and condemn Monoma's is so weird. You can't excuse one and not the other.
Conclusion
There's certainly more than this to my dislike of Bakugou. But I think I've mostly covered his negative impact on the story. Doing a deep dive into his awful personality is something I wouldn't wish on anyway. Many others have done that anyway, so I'm content to leave it out. But I hope you liked my little breakdown!

Pining Katsuki | BKDK Headcannon 💚💥
Tumblr media
It's 3am and Katsuki can't sleep.
He's thinking back to training earlier, when the two were sparring in one of the school's gyms. Izuku had tripped backwards over some debris from one of Katsuki's explosions. In a rush, Katsuki reached forward and caught Izuku around the waist.
Time had seemed to slow down. Katsuki remembers that he had instinctually wrapped an arm behind Izuku's head to cushion the fall. When they had hit the ground, Katsuki felt the hard impact on his arm and elbow, but luckily Izuku was safe and sound - wrapped in his embrace.
They had stared at each other for a moment - nose to nose. Izuku's face burned brightly - his adorable freckles lost in his flushed cheeks.
"Hey guys - get a room!" Denki called out from the sidelines, breaking the moment of tension. Katsuki roughly disentangled himself from Izuku, shoving his green haired classmate away, as he had stumbled to get to his feet.
"Watch it, Deku! Pro Heroes can't be clumsy as hell." He scowled, waiting for Izuku to get to his feet so they could resume their mock fight.
"Thanks for catching me, Kacchan!" Izuku had sputtered out, getting to shakily to his feet and starting to power up again.
Katsuki had ultimately won the fight.
He turned over the moment again in his mind - the way his hand had felt gripping Izuku's slim waist. The way tucking Izuku into his chest had felt so natural as they were falling.
Now, in his dorm room in the middle of the night, his face burns hot as he thinks about laying over his childhood friend - nose to nose in the heat of battle. What would have happened if he would have...
Katsuki shakes the thought from his mind before it can fully form. He whips out his cell phone and quickly opens up one of Izuku's social media pages. He does this every once and a while - when his feelings are all mixed up and he can't decide if he likes Izuku, or if he hates him. He likes scrolling through Izuku's Instagram page the most. He always rolls his eyes as he types in his classmate's IG handle - AllMight89. "So lame, Deku." He whispers under his breath as the page loads onto his phone screen.
Katsuki starts to scroll through image after image of Izuku. There are so many photos from the past year at UA - pictures of Izuku with classmates and Pros. Katsuki scrolls back a few months to one of his favorite pictures - a close up of Izuku at the beginning of the Sports Festival after he had won the obstacle course.
He loves the way Izuku's face shines with pride as he looks out into the stadium full of people, basking in the glory of his win. His curly green hair is absolutely wild and his UA uniform is charred from navigating the minefield. He looks so...goddamn heroic. Looking at this picture makes Katsuki's heart squeeze in a way he doesn't like.
When he's too tired and can't police his thoughts, he imagines Izuku looking at him that way - proud, exhilarated. What would it be like, to be the sole focus of his friend's intense gaze? To have it be just the two of them, alone. Would the world fall away? Would all of the unspoken things that Katsuki wished he could say come tumbling out of his mouth? Would he be able to apologize to Izuku for all of the goddamn bullying he had subjected his friend to in order to hide his terrifyingly intense feelings? He wonders if Izuku knew how he felt...could he ever forgive him?
Katsuki keeps scrolling through the page. Every once and a while, he clicks on an image to expand it and see Izuku's bright face as it takes up the length of his phone screen. He does this for a bit, zoning out as he clicks through the images. He's pulled from his mindless scrolling when his phone buzzes with a new text...
...It's from Izuku.
Katsuki checks the time - 3:45am. Why would Deku possibly be awake at this hour!? He hastily clicks open the text to read -
Um Kacchan - why did you just like one of my photos from 8 months ago on Instagram?
Katsuki's heart plummets. The hell? Hastily, he scrolls back up on the Izuku's profile grid. His eyes dart across the screen until he finds it. There - he's accidentally hearted a picture of Izuku celebrating his last birthday with his mother. The image is sweet - Izuku is blowing out a cake full of candles as his mother looks on with pride. They are both adorned in triangular All Might party hats. Just a few minutes earlier, Katsuki had thumbed through the picture and briefly smiled at the look of joy on Izuku's face. Now he looked down at his phone screen in abject horror at the tiny pink heart his tired fingers had accidentally awarded to the image.
DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT
Hastily, he unlikes the image - but it's too late! The damage has been done. He thinks the best way to get through this is to deny everything.
The hell you talking about nerd? Leave me alone it's 4 fuckin' AM.
Katsuki's rolls over in bed, panicking as he sees the three dots pop up on the screen to indicate that Izuku is typing. An image appears on the screen - a screenshot of an Instagram alert "Katsuki99 liked your photo."
"SHIT!" Katsuki yells out angrily, tossing his phone to the ground. He doesn't know what to do. He's embarrassed and mad and secretly happy that Izuku has texted him in the early morning when the rest of their class is no doubt asleep.
He sits in his bed, glaring at his phone that is now laying on the carpeted floor, abandoned. What the hell should he do!?
Suddenly, the phone screen lights up, casting a fuzzy glow in the pitch black room. Katsuki scrambles out of his nest of blankets and drops to the ground, grabbing the device up in shaky hands.
It's not a text this time, but an Instagram alert.
"AllMight89 liked your photo."
Fingers quaking, Katsuki clicks the alert and it takes him to Instagram. A few moments later, he sees that Izuku has liked one of his own posts from earlier in the year. It's a photo of Katsuki standing in front of UA on one of his first days of school. He's staring down the camera - mean mugging in his brand new school uniform. The caption simply says "Pro Hero in the Making."
Katsuki remembers making the post - he had been so excited to put on his crisp new uniform and to start taking classes at his dream school. He had made his mother take the photo, happy in the moment even as she roasted him for having such a nasty look on his face.
Katsuki clicks back to his alerts. AllMight89 liked your photo. His chest fills with warmth at the statement. His phone buzzes with a new text - from Izuku again.
That's my favorite photo of you.
Katsuki's heart does double time in his chest as he stares at the message. He has no idea what to do or say. After a few agonizing moments, he taps a hasty reply back.
He types out "You damn nerd." But what he means is: "I love you."
Izuku doesn't reply, and Katsuki is unable to get a wink of sleep for the rest of the night.

hey! i haven't seen mha in a looong time and i've never payed attention to bakudeku (mostly because i'm not the biggest fan of bully romance), but i'd love to see your take/interpretation/analysis on it? i've been a really big fan of your svsss metas and so i just thought, "hey, you know what, i'm curious to see zykamiliah's take on a ship i've never been interested in from an anime that i haven't seen in years! maybe i'll see something?"
not too sure if you already made a post explaining it (so sorry if you did!), but i've seen enough of the sudden rise of bakudeku reblogs on my feed from your account to ignite my curiosity lol
i just really enjoy hearing about ships because they're an amazing opportunity to explore dynamics and perspectives i've never given much thought/thought about before (coming from a rare pair lover... oh gyx/lbg, my sweet...) so i'd love to see bakudeku, a ship i don't quite understand (yet!) in a more understanding, different, and interesting light! and in complete honesty i trust your judgement with insightful character and ship analysis stuff, so... yeah!
heeey jade! sorry for the wait, i've been busy with work and irl stuff :DDD but i'm here now!
where to even begin lol... well, it's important to note that the relationship between midoriya izuku, the protagonist, and bakugo katsuki, the deuteragonist, is one of the main narrative lines of the manga, at the very core of the story. katsuki is izuku's narrative foil, their character developments are intrinsically connected (specially katsuki's!), and the same can be said about the themes of heroism, of what makes a hero, who can be a hero, what type of hero society needs, or if it needs them at all, etc., questions that also tie to the evolution of their relationship.
so from the start i was sold on this dynamic because i really like relationships that are at the center of a story!! i also like relationships with a complicated history with lots of drama and ups and downs, and i like that each character has their own things going on in their lives even if they are connected and one of the most important persons in each other's lives. big big bonus guaranteed to get my full attention if they are obsessed with each other lol
the thing is, deku and bakugo are in a bad place when the story kicks in. bakugo isn't an active bully, in the sense that he doesn't constantly seek deku out to hurt him, but he IS horribly mean and hostile, and that's because for years he's felt threatened by deku (and deku's heroic qualities), and wants to push him away, because he also feels that deku is looking down on him. the story doesn't shy away from showing and acknowledging that bakugo's behavior is atrocious and needs to change, and it works towards it consistently: he eventually atones, apologizes, and changes. on the other side of the coin, deku has always been paying attention to bakugo and, despite how the latter treated him, would chase him, observe him to the point he has bakugo's moves memorized, takes inspiration from his fighting style and even imitates him to give himself courage to do something specially daring and when he wants to "win" more than "save"; bakugo is his image of victory, ever since they were kids.
i scrolled through my bkdk meta tag, since it's been yeeeeears since i was involved in the fandom, lol, and found this post that tackles the bullying issue specifically and makes some very good points, if you wanted to read it! :D
the manga eventually addresses the problems in their relationship in "Deku vs Kacchan 2" (chapters 117-119), at the time bakugo is feeling turmoils for the part he played in All Might's end. to the question of "why does deku chase and care about bakugo if bakugo is so mean to him?" ch 119 has deku answer that himself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this fight is the turning point for their relationship, and for the rest of the manga their individual and dual development is mostly upwards. reading bnha is worth it, if anything, just for the beauty of bakugo katsuki's development.
another big aspect that got me hooked in their relationship from the very first anime episode (and first opening) is that they are
✨Childhood Friends✨
(strap in this is gonna get loooooooooong)
Childhood friends (Osananajimi) is kind of a huge trope in manga/anime, often as a romantic interest. According to some sources i quickly consulted in the internet, and some of the manga/anime I've watched, in Japanese culture osananajimi is considered one of the purest bond formed between people, with a level of closeness equal to that between blood relatives; formed at such an early age, at a time when societal restrictions didn't apply yet, the relationship is genuine because they still didn’t need or know how to hide their true feelings from each other. As the childhood friends grew up together, this is considered a special connection, somewhat different to those formed after societal norms and perceptions take precedence. Or, as makeste put it:
here we have two very young children who are introduced to each other at an age when they’re still young enough to have absolutely no secrets. they’re young enough to have not yet learned to be shy or self-conscious, or to downplay their enthusiasm so as not to let others know they care. kids that young don’t hide anything. they don’t lie or deceive. they don’t have agendas, and they assume that others don’t either. it is, in short, a very pure type of relationship in the sense that it’s honest and uncomplicated, that it is exactly what it appears to be at face value. their personalities are fully out there with no attempt at reining anything in. Katsuki witnesses the full force of Izuku’s boundless hero-worshipping energy and enthusiasm. Izuku witnesses the full extent of Katsuki’s relentless confidence and Peter Pan cockiness. both boys see each other for who they are in their entirety, and accept each other. this is a fundamental bond. there is trust built between the two of them at a critical, formative age. it’s a relationship formed so early on that it’s likely that neither of them can actually recall a time before they met the other. they are and have always been a constant in each other’s lives. they’re a lot like siblings in terms of that kind of closeness and complete understanding of the other, both the good and the bad. in fact I’d say that Izuku’s use of “Kacchan” (and Katsuki’s automatic acceptance of it) isn’t that different from a younger brother’s use of “Niisan” for his older brother. it’s very revealing of the type of relationship they have. and that includes the typical sibling squabbles as well. it’s very much a relationship that’s taken for granted; there’s no filter, no effort to hold back, no attempt at trying to tone down their behavior around one another. there is whining and bragging and squabbling and name-calling and tears, just as much as there is cooperation and respect and trust. because at the end of the day, the assumption is that the relationship will endure no matter what, so they can go at each other as hard as they can and it doesn’t matter. the other one’s presence is just a given. that’s the kind of relationship that this term “childhood friends” really encapsulates, I think.
The sudden change of their statuses when the quirks start to manifest is a major factor that placed them on opposite sides of the social hierarchy, and conditioned the way society and their peers would treat them. But despite this and the misunderstandings that happen between them and the falling apart of their relationship, the subconscious understanding between them remains intact through the years. They always flashback to their earlier memories. They probably didn't interact much in elementary or middle school, and even if they did, they interactions were already tainted by their social status and Bakugo’s hostility. They don't share their innermost feelings with anyone but each other. Like when Deku gets angry or determined to win and to surpass him, or when Bakugo screams and cries out his emotional turmoil at Deku. According to Japanese social rules those are selfish things to do. This relates to the concepts of honne and tatemae.
Japanese society is more regimented than one might believe just from watching anime. By middle school age, and even to some degree in primary school, children are expected to interact with their peers in a relatively professional way. This is especially true of relationships between students of opposite sexes. Such requirements aren't held for family or close friends, but for everyone else one is expected to be polite and not share their true feelings or say things too directly. This concept of dividing people into an in-group and an out-group (内外, uchi-soto) is somewhat hard for non-Japanese people to understand, but is central to interactions between people in Japanese culture. In fact, you can find plenty of examples of this and of the related concepts of honne and tatemae in anime if you look, but if you aren't looking for them specifically it's easy to miss. (source)
So, for example, you shouldn't show your true feelings/thoughts to other people, even more if they aren’t socially acceptable, because that may disturb the peace in the community. But because Deku and Kacchan are osananajimi that have known each other their whole life, that doesn't apply to them. By stating from the very beginning that Kacchan was Deku's childhood friend, Hori put them in a close relationship with each other with a level of intimacy, trust and a subconscious understanding not like any other. Kacchan is, in fact, closer to him than All Might himself.
Like, Deku has been calling Bakugo by his childhood nickname, Kacchan ("Ka[tsu]" from Katsuki + "-chan", which is usually used to address children or females in an affectionate way), even past the age he was excepted it to drop it. When they were 4 years old, the other kids called him "Kacchan" too, but growing up it would be seen as childish or disrespectful so they start to call him "Katsuki" or "Bakugo". This puts a level of distance between him and his peers that, regardless of what happened between them, didn't extend to Deku and Katsuki. And it had to cross Deku's mind at some point ( "Should I start calling him Katsuki/Bakugo too?") but he didn't or simply couldn't. Despite everything, he wasn't willing to put even more distance between himself and Bakugo. He deliberately refused to put formal distance between them, and more importantly, Bakugo just LET THAT BE.
___
Like, this was a great set up from the beginning for me. I knew there was a story there from the first episodes, and then "Deku vs Kacchan 1" happened, showing their childhood flashbacks and the misunderstandings that would persist until DvK2, and i was really into that lol They relationship was one of the main reasons I followed the manga.
i mean LOOK at THIS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
how i could NOT ship it i mean come on
Even their color schemes complement each other, and their costumes have the same/similar colors. they are are complementary opposites that share the same core: to become a hero, their admiration of All Might. Each of them has a quality the other lacks and needs to work on to become the heroes: heroes that win and save, as All Might put it. Selflessness and Selfishness: to help and save others, in one side, and to care for one's personal victory, in the other. Bakugo was obsessed with victory and glory, and Deku was willing to do anything to save others, to the point of self-destruction. These isolated qualities didn't made them good heroes, but combined, as the two learn them from each other, by the end of the story they really become two of the greatest heroes.
This connects with their rivalry, which is richer than any other in the manga because of the many layers to their relationship: they are obsessed with each other, want to compete with each other (for the rest of their lives!!!) and don't want the other to fall behind, specially after their misunderstandings are resolved. They also don't want to be left behind by the other. Because they love each other too much! Whether people interpret it as platonic or romantic or whatever in between (secret third they are like like four different types of greek love categories combined), they are each other's More Important Person outside of family members. Hell, Kacchan getting hurt is basically Deku's berserk button: he punches All Might in the face to save Katsuki during the end of term exam; he goes crazy protective and possessive when Katsuki gets kidnapped by the League of villains(Mr. Compress even calls him out lmao)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he goes crazy when Katsuki is hurt in front of him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and when he thought katsuki had died...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i mean. look at this romantic shit.
Tumblr media
_
lol and i feel like i'm leaving many other stuff behind, like Bakugo's apology, and all the little moments after DvK, and all the times in the last arc where Bakugo was thinking about Izuku constantly, and the finale where Katsuki cried because Deku had given up OFA and was going to be quirkless again, and the fact that he was at the heart of the mecha suit years-long project because he wanted Izuku's dream, their dreams, to come true. but tbh I only read them the one time and need to reread the whole manga again to refresh my knowledge. and i already shipped them before all this haha.
they are amazing characters in a really well done shonen manga they have a beautiful story 🧡💚

Note
What’re your bakudeku hcs?
honestly what are they NOT lmao
izuku cannot cook to save his life but he always feels slightly guilty because katsuki is always cooking them food, so every now and then katsuki will let him cook them lunch for work the next day and if anyone even gives a sideways glance at how truly awful their food smells during lunch, katsuki will glare daggers into them while taking mouthfuls of the stuff. he just loves to see the proud smile on izukus face when he finishes the entire meal raving about how good it was.
the one thing izuku is good at making is bread, even better than katsuki (katsuki is still totally the better bread baker but AGAIN he lies and claims he’s not great at it because he is in love and a simp for izuku and loves to make his boy happy)
katsuki took night classes on massage therapy during their lasy year at UA because he knows how bad izuku's hands and arms hurt (ESPECIALLY when the weather changes) and the only way he knows how to fix it is by massaging them. (he literally has to force izuku to sit down and let him because he’ll deny it till he’s blue in the face that he's in any pain)
they have codependency issues so bad after the war that they’re literally inseparable for WEEKS before adults intervene and force them into therapy. like they have some part of their body touching each other at all times type of separation anxiety. (the final straw was when aizawa walked into the dorm kitchen to find katsuki giving izuku a piggyback ride while he walked all about in the kitchen trying to cook dinner for the class. izuku was passed out taking a nap during the whole ordeal.)
katsuki always washes izukus hair and does his curly hair haircare routine because no matter how many time he takes izuku through it, he always manages to fuck it up on his own.
Izuku pretends to be bad at it on purpose because he loves katsuki washing his hair he finds it hilarious that katsuki hasn’t figured it out yet
katsuki knows
they never outright confirm to the media if they’re dating or not, they don’t do PDA a whole lot, but they’re close enough that questions and rumors run wild. even when the media outright asks them they’re so vague it’s actually annoying
‘dynamight, what are your feelings towards deku?’ ‘right now? pretty fucking pissed he took down the villain right as I was closing in on him. took all the lime light away from me, the fucker.’
'hero deku! how are you and dynamight going to celebrate his new ranking in the hero chart? I'm sure it's going to be... explosive.' 'I think we're all going out with our former class mates for dinner or drinks or something. And kacchan is really good at controlling his quirk, so there's not going to be any unnecessary explosions, thats why he made it into the top 10!'
they are literally REQUIRED by their government issued therapist to not engage in PDA because:
1. their therapist is damn good at their job and knows the media coverage and public opinion on their relationship will send the pair of them into a tailspin and
2. engaging in PDA will increase their codependency issues
They have a love-hate relationship with their therapist
the first time they argue after they get together is literally over groceries. because katsuki and izuku didn’t have any semblance of a friendship when they got to their teen years, katsuki didn’t see the midoriyas growing struggle with money. so when bakugo comes back from the store spending an extortionate amount on groceries that should've cost like ¥20,000 and he comes back having spent over ¥70,000 , izuku goes on an anxiety induced lecture about how careless katsuki was with their money, katsuki gets PISSED because he’s not careless and it spirals out of control until izuku finally burst out with ‘what are we gonna eat when all the food runs out and we have no more money’ and then, shocked and having no idea where izuku would that impression from has them sit down to have a conversation (okay actually i need someone to make this into a fic. shit i think i might make this into fic)
katsuki has a soft spot for mange-y and abandoned cats and will bring them home and take care of them until they're fully healed before rehoming them.
Izuku would never tell katsuki this, but he is very allergic to cats. He would rather die though than tell him and ruin his rehoming hobby.
izukus guilty pleasure is trash reality tv. (im talking like KUWTK and jersey shore type of trash reality tv) katsuki rolls his eyes at it and will tease izuku over it, but izuku will always find him standing behind the couch watching it while izuku is binging watching the episodes he's missed.
katsuki's love language is definitely words of affirmation but like done in the right way (aka the deku way) and physical touch (and also acts of service but it really depends on the person and the day)
izukus is acts of service and quality time (literally, katsuki will just sit next to him on the couch and let him ramble and ramble about what ever is in his notebook or on his mind for hours and izuku gets so much joy and love from that one small action)
i will fight tooth and nail for this take but katsuki is NOT the space heater everyone thinks he is. he's got very warm hands because of his quirk but out of the pair of them, izuku is the hot box when they're sleeping.
even though one of katsuki's love languages is physical touch he doesn't like people touching him or being in his personal space. besides izuku, the only other person allowed in his personal space is surprisingly todoroki
here's just a few headcanons i have. i'll probably add to this at different points because i definitely have more i just haven't ever written them down before

Katsuki is the type to give the silent treatment when he's jealous bc the entire time he had to acknowledge Rody existed close to Deku he just sat there seething like "i want him GONE.... i want him DEAD.... "
Hmmm, I wouldn't exactly call it a silent treatment because he makes it very clear when he doesn't like someone (from the outset or because they did something to make him mad). Normally, he wouldn't give a flying fuck and just curse people out but with more intimate subjects it's more underplayed. A scowl here, a shoulder check there, to both Rody and Izuku.
The only thing he keeps silent is why he's so pissy out of nowhere and it will take nothing short of a wrestling match for Izuku to get him to actually admit it. We would've gotten a Deku vs Kacchan part three right there if being out of Otheon didn't instanly calm him back down. Good luck getting a chance now, birdbrain.

Tumblr media
He felt Bakugo begin to tilt forward, placing him gently on a massive king sized bed with soft black blankets. He unlatched his legs from around Katsukis hips, allowing the blond to crawl onto the bed above him, straddling his hips. He leant back on his haunches, his hands resting flat against Izuku's chest.
“Fuck” He murmured, his eyes scanning every inch of Izukus body. He may still be fully clothed, but with the way Katsuki was devouring him with those ruby red eyes, he might as well have been naked. He was so hard and every shift of Katsuki’s hips sent a shot of pleasure through him.
Katsuki smirked and rolled his hips down hard against Izuku, the green haired boy letting out a desperate whimper.
“Fuck I need to get you making that noise again” Katsuki groaned as he yanked Izukus shirt over his head and launched it across the room, his own shirt joining it on the floor quickly after. He smirked up the smaller boy before latching his mouth against one of his nipples, swirling his tongue against the hardening pink bud. His other hand slowly gliding down to the large bulge in Izuku’s pants, his palm gliding over it. Izuku whined again, his hips bucking softly against Katsukis hand. Katsuki continued kissing across Izuku’s chest, before trailing up to the boy's freckled neck.
“Kacchan, please” Izuku let out a shaky whimper, his hips still rolling against Katsukis palm, desperate for some friction on his leaking cock.
“What baby, what do you need?” Katsuki smiled teasingly, his hand squeezing Izuku’s bulge as the boy squirmed under him. Izuku’s green eyes looked at him pleadingly, his heart skipping a beat at the pet name. Izuku whined again, too embarrassed to beg for Katsuki like his body wanted him too.
Katsuki let out a deep chuckle as he began to trail kisses back down Izuku's chest, stopping just above the waistband of his jeans.
“Don't worry baby, I'll take care of you” Katsuki murmured as he unzipped Izuku's pants, the smaller boy raising his hips to help him slide both his pants and boxers off his legs and onto the floor with the rest of their discarded clothing.
“Deku pass me that bottle”
Izuku could feel how red his face was as he glanced around for whatever Katsuki was talking about. His eyes finally landing on a small bottle of lube on the bedside table.
Oh
Izuku grabbed the small bottle and passed it back to Katsuki. His hand disappeared from his view as he heard the cap open and some of the contents of the bottle being squeezed out. He closed his eyes, waiting for Katsuki to touch him. What he did not expect however, was for Katsuki to take the head of his cock into his warm mouth at the same time his lube-covered finger circled around his tight hole.
Izuku's hands gripped the sheets as Katsuki twisted his tongue around the head of Izuku's cock, flicking it gently against his slit. He moaned as Katsuki finally pushed his finger into Izuku, pushing it all the way down to the knuckle.
“Kacchan” Izuku exclaimed, a yelp tapering off into a moan as Katsuki took his cock slightly deeper in his mouth. The slight burn of the stretch being soothed by the pleasure shooting through his body The blond chuckled, the vibrations reverberating down Izuku's cock and making him see stars.
Katsuki took Izuku deeper, feeling the boy's cock hit the back of his throat as he slipped a second finger inside him. Izuku's hand found home in the blond's hair, gripping the spikes tightly as he thrusted up into Katsukis throat slightly.
“So impatient ‘zuku” Katsuki teased as he pulled off for a moment.
“I’ll make you a deal baby, you can fuck my mouth while I stretch you open for me, but you gotta promise me not to cum okay? You're only cumming with me inside you tonight.” Katsuki smirked, his fingers scissoring the smaller boy open as he spoke.
Izuku nodded desperately, bucking back into Katsukis fingers slightly.
“Deal”
“Good boy.” Katsuki praised as he took Izuku's cock back into his mouth, taking it until it hit the back of his throat again. Izuku started to thrust into Katsukis mouth, and in turn thrusting himself onto the three fingers Katsuki now had buried in him.
Katsukis throat felt raw and full as Izuku thrusts his cock deep down his throat. He barely even has to move his mouth or hand, the green haired boy practically prepping himself as he fucks back on the fingers in him. Katsuki twisted and prodded Izukus soft insides, until he found the small raised area that would make the boy see stars.
“Fuck- Kacchan” He screamed as he felt Katuski rub his fingers over his prostate over and over. His body twitched as he buried deep inside Katsukis throat one final time before pulling the blond off by his hair.
“Sorry I was- fuck. I was going to cum” Izuku panted as his arm fell across his face, hiding his blush.
“It's okay, you did so well” Katsuki praised as he pulled his fingers out, wiping the lube on the covers before kicking his own pants and boxers off, finally freeing his aching erection from his pants. He reopened the lube bottle and poured an obscene amount on his length, dripping a bit extra on Izuku's stretched hole for good measure (and to see the boy squirm). Katsuki crawled back up Izuku's body and cupped his face, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead, reveling in how absolutely cock-drunk Izuku already looked. He rested his cock between Izuku's cheeks, propping himself on his elbows to look into Izukus eyes.
“Ready nerd?” Katsuki asked, rolling his hips slightly.
“Don’t call me ‘nerd’ when your dicks about to be inside me” Izuku giggled, his hand reaching up to cup Bakugos face. Bakugo smirked, twisting his head to kiss Izuku's palm.
“Fine, what would you prefer? Baby? Gorgeous? Slut ?” Katsuki teased, his hand reaching down to line himself up with Izuku's pleading hole.
“We’ve got all night to find out which ones are your favorite” Katsuki smirked as he pushed in, slowly, as he watched Izuku's face for any sign of discomfort. But he didn't find any, instead he watched as Izuku let out a loud whiny moan, his eyes rolling back slightly.
“There you go baby, taking me so fucking well.” Katsuki said through gritted teeth. “Fuck you didnt feel this tight around my fingers, you feel fucking amazing”.
Izuku let out a breathy whine as his fingers dug into Katsukis shoulders. He had never felt so full. He’d been with a few guys before, but nothing that had ever felt like this. Katsuki was bigger than anyone he’d ever been with, but more than that, Katsuki felt like he filled up every single space that existed inside him, like they were puzzle pieces fitting together and this was the first time he’d felt truly complete. He felt Katsukis hips push into his as the blond finally bottomed out. Katsukis hand rubbed gentle circles into Izuku's shoulders as the boy got used to the stretch.
“You okay?” Katsuki asked softly.
“Yea, just really big.” Izuku nodded, taking a few deep breaths as he worked to relax his body. Katsuki smiled down at him, soft eyes scanning the freckles on his cheeks and an even softer hand brushing stray green curls from the boy's eyes.
“I'm okay, you can move.” Izuku nodded, his hand twisting the sheets nervously. Katsuki slowly pulled back, before pushing back in. A few more of these slow thrusts and Izuku chuckled breathlessly.
“You can go faster Kacchan, I'm not going to break” He smirked with a confidence he wasn't sure he could actually follow up.
Katsuki smiled back, his red eyes glowing with hunger. He pulled back before slamming into the smaller boy.Izuku felt the air in his lungs leave him with every thrust of the blond's hips, his body rocking slightly on the bed. Katsuki leaned down and caught the boy's lips, his tongue exploring the inside of the boy's mouth as he kept up his brutal pace. His hips slammed against Izuku's skin, the sound of his thighs hitting the boy's ass filling the room. Izuku let out a whine, his eyes watering as the tip of Katsukis cock brushed over his prostate again and again.
“Kacchan, I-” Izuku whined, his head whipping back and forth against the pillow as his body quivered. Katsuki groaned in response, burying his head in the crook of the boy's neck. His hands came up to grab the green haired boy's thighs, hiking them up around his hips, the new angle causing his cock to go even deeper. Izuku couldn't speak, the only sounds escaping him were whimpers and whines as he wrapped his arms around the blond's broad shoulders. His blunt fingernails dug into his back as he clung to him. Katsuki's thrusts became erratic as he felt his orgasm nearing. He slid a hand between them and began to stroke Izuku's cock.
"Ka-" The boy tried to choke out, his voice breaking off in a choked sob.
"Come on Deku, cum for me"
That's all it took, his cock twitched in Katsukis hand, cumming on both of their chests as he moaned. His body tensing as Katsuki continued to fuck him through his orgasm, the over stimulation making him shake. Katsuki thrust once, twice more, before groaning and biting down on Izukus shoulder, his orgasm rocking through him. He thrusted lazily as he rode his high, before collapsing on top of the green haired boy. They lay there, panting and basking in the afterglow, Izuku's hands tracing random patterns along Katsukis back.
"Wow" he finally managed to say.
Katsuki snorted, his arms tightening around the other boy's torso.
"That's one way to put it" He smirked, his face buried in the crook of Izuku's neck.
Izuku chuckled, running a hand through the blond's sweaty hair.
"I can't stay here all night, I've got classes in the morning." He whispered, not really wanting to move but knowing he had to.
"You could just...not." Katsuki said, raising his head to look into Izukus eyes. "Stay the night. It's late, I'll drive you to class in the morning."
Izuku blushed, biting his lip.
"Okay" He agreed.
"Okay" Katsuki smiled, peppering the boy's face with kisses before getting up.
"Where are you going?" Izuku asked.
"Just grabbing something to clean us up with." Katsuki reassured him.
He wandered over to the door and opened it, revealing a modern looking ensuite. He returned a moment later with a damp cloth and began to wipe away the drying cum on Izuku's stomach.
"You okay? I wasn't too rough was I?"
"Mm, no." Izuku shook his head.
"Just a bit sore."
Katsuki hummed and continued to clean them up. Once they were both clean, he tossed the washcloth in the hamper and climbed back into bed. He settled his warm body back against Izukus, holding to boy to his chest and spooning him. Izuku wrapped his arms around Katsukis, reveling in the warmth and feeling the blonds breath against the back of his neck. He wanted to relax, he really did, but his mind was a mess. Was that a one night stand? Is Kacchan going to drop him off tomorrow and that will be it? Was it more? His mind raced as he clung to Katsuki, worrying that this was the last time he would get to be in his arms like this and that by morning he'd just be another notch on the bedpost.
“Nerd” Katsuki derailed his train of thought as he rubbed his thumb against Izukus arm.
“Hm?”
“Your thinking too loud, what's wrong? Wanna let me in there?” Katsuki chuckled, tapping the back of Izuku's head with the tip of his nose.
“I- hm” Izuku paused, gathering his own thoughts before speaking.
“I'm just wondering if you want to see me again after this” Izuku mumbled, practically burying his face into Katsukis arms.
Katsuki paused for a moment, before cracking up into a fit of laughter.
“Deku, did you think I just wanted you for a quick fuck? Oh God if you truly thought that then that's on me. Fucking of course I want to see you again, if it was up to me you'd be skipping class and spending all of tommorow with me” Katsuki laughed, kissing Izukus green curls as he held him tightly.
“Kacchan!”
“I'm serious!” Katsuki exclaimed, and Izuku could hear his smile in his voice. Katsuki rolled Izuku over in his arms, so they were chest to chest and face to face. Izuku laughed as Katsuki peppered kisses all over his face, as if he was trying to map every freckle that adorned his pale skin.
“Okay okay! I believe you!” Exclaimed Izuku, still giggling as Katsuki tightened his grip around Izuku's body, not allowing the boy to escape the onslaught of kisses.
“Yea?”
“Yes! I believe you! I swear” Squealed Izuku. Katsuki let out a loud sigh after planting one last kiss directly to the tip of Izuku's nose.
“Great, so no running off on me okay? I’ll take you to class tomorrow and then maybe after you let me take you out on a date, a proper one this time.” Katsuki suggested as he traced Izuku's jaw with his finger.
“I’d love that Kacchan” Izuku beamed, snuggling into the taller man's chest and letting out a small sigh of relief. He got to keep him, he got to keep Kacchan, this wasn't just some lucky break, he got a chance at calling this man his.
“Good, now sleep, i'll be here when you wake up. Goodnight nerd” Katsuki yawned, before burying his face into Izuku's curls and holding the green haired boy tightly.
“Goodnight Kacchan” Izuku smiled, letting his own eyelids drift close as he relaxed in Katsukis embrace.

I’ve been binge-reading your gardener!reader x bakugou fics and I LOVE THEM WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!
which is why I hate to do this to you
Situation in which there’s a high-scale villain attack and reader’s home and garden gets destroyed (along with most of the neighborhood and city) BUT reader doesn’t know yet because they were knocked out and injured during the attack and bakugou was able to save them and pull them out of the house but couldn’t save reader’s garden and so he blames himself for that and for you being in the hospital and doesn’t know how to break the news that your home and garden (and pictures of your mom) are gone!!!
Also if he isn’t pacing the hospital floor waiting for you to wake up, he’s out searching for Artemis and trying to salvage anything from your garden to bring to you (specifically any type of flower seedling or picture)
nonnie.... how dare you make me want to write angst. but thank you!! I'm in love with this pairing and am always looking for excuses to write more about it. hope you like this!!
::
Katsuki's blood ran cold when he heard the neighborhood they were being called to. Please be alright, please be alright.
It was a chant, a prayer that you were safe and sound with Artemis and your garden and your beautiful home. But when they arrived, him first- blasting through the skys as fast as he could- your house was a mess of rubble and smoke. He tore through the concrete with his heart in his throat. He didn't want to be in a world without you, and that's all he could think as he searched for you.
By the time he found you he was in tears, and seeing your beautiful face bruised and scraped dragged a sob out of his chest. He cradled you against him and let out a desperate cry that sounded like it belonged to someone else.
"We're over here, HELP US!!!"
::
As soon as he had you set up in the hospital he returned to your house, guilt keeping his heart in a vice as he saw the true scope of the damage. The villain had destroyed half the city in her rampage. And your garden, that you had painstakingly tended to for more than a decade, was torn to pieces. The photos on the toppled walls were cracked as he collected the ones of your mother. Its the least he could do after not protecting you.
"Some hero you are, Katsuki," he grumbled to himself, looking around for any sign of life in your garden.
He called for Artemis, gathered more momentos from your house, and waited anxiously for a call from the hospital.
When it finally came, he froze.
What could he say to you? Would you even want to see him after he failed you so horribly?
::
You woke in a white room, with pain everywhere. But your first thought was of him.
"Ka.." you tried your best to speak only to find your throat rough as gravel.
"Don't try to speak, ma'am." There was a bright voice beside you, and as you focused your gaze you realized that pro hero Deku was at your bedside. You frowned as you looked at him, your brain slowly coming to the conclusion,
that was wrong.
"He's here. He just... doesn't know if you want to see him. I'm sorry to say your house was destroyed in the villain attack, and he wanted me to tell you that your garden was also destroyed." Deku spoke on behalf of his friend as best as he could, but all you wanted in that moment, needed, was Katsuki.
"Please." It was all you could get out, but Deku understood right away.
"I'll go get him."
::
Katsuki paced outside your hospital room, barking orders to his subordinates through the phone, "Her name is Artemis, she's a calico. She should be in the neighborhood. I don't give a fuck what you do, find her."
"She's asking for you." Deku murmured casually, watching Katsuki immediately hang up the phone and fall silent.
"She shouldn't be." He muttered, self loathing evident in every word.
"Who are you to make that decision for her?" Deku frowned, with Kacchan he never pulled his punches and it was for a reason. Sometimes the only one who could make Katsuki see reason was someone willing to call him on his bullshit.
"I wasn't there! For fucks sake Deku I wasn't there the one time she needed me." Katsuki's words were distraught, and he refused to meet his friends eyes.
"She needs you now." Deku rested his large hand on his friends shoulder, giving it an encouraging squeeze. "Be her hero, Kacchan. That's what she needs."

Devotion
Izuku is convinced that Katsuki is mad at him because he hasn't stopped starting in his direction since he walked into the common room. A couple of years before Katsuki decided to apologize, Izuku thought he didn't like him at all because he was constantly glaring at him. However, now that they're friends it must be because he's simply angry with him.
He'd like to know why, but Izuku is still too nervous to do ask directly; maybe he should ignore him for a while or at least until Katsuki himself decides to approach him and tell (or more likely yell at) him the reason why he's pissed.
Izuku sits on a different couch, determined to focus on his conversation with Uraraka and Iida, although it's difficult because he swears he can feel Katsuki's eyes on him. It doesn't help at all that Ashido is constantly giggling and making fun of Katsuki for some reason.
He shouldn't look at him.
After a while (and he's not sure exactly how that happened) Katsuki ends up sitting on the same couch, right next to him, making it way more difficult to ignore him.
"Let's go study together, nerd."
Finally, Izuku turns his head in Katsuki's direction, ready to face whatever is going on, but feels absolutely confused when he doesn't see a frown or scowl on Katsuki's face.
What's going on?
Actually, now that he's paying attention he realizes that Katsuki is smiling softly at him; it's a smile that would be imperceptible if it wasn't because they were very close.
"S-Sure, sounds good, Kacchan."
"Let's go then," even the blond's voice is gentle; Izuku had never heard him talking like that before.
It's very confusing.
It happens again during the study session and afterwards when they go grab something from the dining room hours later. Then it happens again the next day during lunch and also in the classroom when Aizawa is not there; Katsuki has to turn around on his chair to stare at Izuku directly.
He should ask his friend (because they're friends now, right) but Izuku honestly doesn't know how to start that type of conversation.
Then he decides to ask for advice from his other friends first.
"Uhh... have you noticed that Kacchan stares at me a–"
"Finally!" Uraraka blurts out, looking almost relieved. "I knew you weren't THAT oblivious, Deku-kun!"
Oh, so they have noticed... why didn't they say anything before?
"I know he's angry, but I'm not sure why and he doesn't want to tell me! Well, I know I should ask but–"
"What?" Uraraka cuts him off again. "What are you talking about?"
"What do you mean?" Izuku says, noticing that Iida is getting confused as well. "Kacchan is always glaring at me lately that's what I'm talking about. I thought you had noticed!"
"Wait, hold on a second..." the girl takes a deep breath, looking like she can't quite believe what's happening. "You think Bakugo is mad at you?"
"Yes," Izuku nods. "Why would he stare at me so much if he wasn't?"
For a brief second, it looks like one of Uraraka's eyes starts twitching, but then the moment is gone.
"This is worse than I thought. Iida, help me!"
The tall boy looks from the distressed girl back to Izuku.
"It appears Bakugo is actually–"
"Nevermind, I'll do it myself." Uraraka sighs, putting a hand on Iida's shoulder to make him stop. "Have you ever tried to actually look back whenever he's 'glaring' at you?"
Blushing, Izuku shakes his head.
"I don't want him to yell at me."
"In the last couple of months, has he ever yelled at you?"
Oh, she's right. He hasn't, which makes the situation even more confusing.
"No, but–"
"He doesn't stare at you like he's angry, Deku-kun," she interrupts him, taking a deep breath before cupping Izuku's face in her hands, like she wants him to pay attention to every single word she's saying. "He stares at you like he's in love."
Feeling his face like it's on fire, Izuku starts shaking his head from side to side.
"That's n-not possible!"
"Why not?"
"Kacchan doesn't see me that way!"
"He literally does!"
Iida nods right behind Uraraka. Izuku closes his eyes, wondering if he's dreaming that conversation, however, when he opens them again, Uraraka is still narrowing her eyes at him.
"Ask him."
He won't, not now, probably never because that's ridiculous.

Alright, maybe he does need to talk to him about it.
But it's really difficult to say something; what if Katsuki gets mad at him for it? What if Izuku got it completely wrong?
What if Katsuki is actually angry with him?
No, he probably isn't because he hasn't stopped helping him train or study; he even spends as much time with Izuku as he can.
Izuku takes a deep breath, not even bothering to keep reading the All Might article he found online; it's useless, it's impossible for him to focus at the moment.
He can feel Katsuki's red eyes on him again; he knows his friend is staring at him.
"Kacchan..." Izuku turns around and blushes as soon as his eyes meet Katsuki's.
He's never seen him so relaxed before; Katsuki looks content, staring at Izuku like he's suddenly the most important thing to him.
It makes him feel nervous.
"Are you–" he can't finish the sentence because Katsuki leans closer and smiles at him fondly. Izuku can finally see it; it's a fond expression, full of warm emotions.
"Izuku," Katsuki looks nervous too, vulnerable; like he has just made a difficult decision.
"Maybe we should–"
Katsuki kisses Izuku on the cheek; it's a small, quick peck that leaves both of them red and speechless for a couple of seconds.
"You are very important to me, nerd," the blond mumbles; he's struggling with the words but he does as best as he can to get the message across. "I..."
Katsuki has never been good with words, most of the time he used to say the opposite of what he felt, but Izuku knows he's been working on that. And yet, he feels like there's so much more hidden in that sentence.
So Izuku kisses him on the forehead to let him know he understands; he doesn't need to say it if he's not ready.
Katsuki melts into the kiss and stares back at him like he's done many times before. This time the emotions are so clear for Izuku that he can't quite believe he mistook them for anger.
Then, Izuku thinks he's going to explode because Katsuki starts kissing him all over the face, but he takes his time, almost like he's determined to kiss every single one of the freckles on Izuku's face.
"Let me take care of you," Katsuki whispers, even though they're alone. "Let me adore you, nerd."
Izuku is glad that Katsuki still calls him nerd because it's the only thing that convinces him the conversation is a real one and he's not dreaming somehow.
He wants to say it back because he knows what it means, he knows what Katsuki is trying to tell him, but he's too flustered to do it.
"Okay, Kacchan," he says instead, knowing his freckles have momentarily disappeared under a very deep blush.
He hopes Katsuki understands.
Although it seems he does because the blond smiles triumphantly before giving Izuku a kiss on the lips.
A kiss on the lips that's a promise, a confession and a hopeful wish at the same time.
With a smile, Izuku closes his eyes and kisses him back.
