Don’t get me wrong I’m devastated that we’re not getting the karaoke scenes (mostly because they said we were and now are not, don’t get my hopes up like that abc) but really the annoying part is that this Madney story is being crammed into one episode. The way I understood it at first was that “oh chimney’s missing but is quick to resolve” but an hour and 45 minutes!?!? (I don’t remember the exact run time they said but it was something ridiculously long) that’s a lot bigger of a story, so why isn’t it a two episode arc?? One, Madney deserve it and two, surely when they were writing this episode they knew how long it was all going to be and then they filmed it and still thought it would all fit in one episode??? And then to know you have a lot of footage and promise people that a certain scene was going to be in it when there was a high chance it might not?

ok so here is my pitch for my dream buddie catalyst:
eddie and maddie are trapped in some sort of likely-fatal time sensitive situation together (drowning related probably because it's Them) (have they overused it yes is it still thematically appropriate YES) where one person could potentially sacrifice themselves for the other to survive. i want eddie and maddie using their combined experience and ingenuity to survive together and discussing who should be prioritized which means they talk about parenthood and how they both feel they've failed their children by "running," how their lives have been so defined by trauma and they don't want to scar their children any further by leaving them again. of course they're doing everything they can to get out together, but as the situation deteriorates throughout the episode(s) (c'mon something like this could be at LEAST a two-parter) they can't help returning periodically to the world's most morbid debate.
i want buck and chim on the outside both going out of their goddamn minds. they know that eddie and maddie are stuck (wherever), know that they're probably alive, but aren't sure in what condition and if they'll stay that way. rescue operations begin as everybody walks on eggshells around buck and tries to comfort chim, who wants absolutely none of it. time is running out.
eddie says that he couldn't possibly let maddie sacrifice herself for him and look buck and chim in the eye afterwards. maddie says that she couldn't do that either. she says that at least jee-yun would still have her father, and eddie says that christopher would still have buck. maddie says that of course none of them would just abandon christopher if something were to happen to him but—
and eddie cuts her off and says it's in my will. if i die, christopher will have buck. buck will have christopher.
they just look at each other for a weighted moment. maddie makes a decision. she says ...i meant it, you know. that i couldn't let you die down here (wherever here is i don't KNOW okay i'm not here to think up convoluted emergencies i'm here for drama) and look my baby brother in the eye knowing that i could have changed it. eddie says i know, okay, but it's different, you're his sister, and maddie says, yeah, but you're his... and she pauses. and eddie says what? best friend? partner? that doesn't—
and maddie says you're his. eddie, you're his.
and eddie... i want to see something slot into place. i want to watch him understand as maddie spills everything she's been suspecting since the day that buck came out to her and maybe since before she and eddie even met. maddie says you know, when i first came to california, you were all he talked about? you're still all he talks about. you and christopher. you're his. i couldn't... eddie, you're out of your mind if you really don't think that losing you would break him just as much as losing me. he would forgive us both, because he's buck, but i couldn't... i'm no saint, eddie, i want to survive. i don't want my daughter to grow up without me. but i can't do that to him. i don't know if he'd survive it. even if he did, the guilt would eat me alive.
meanwhile. buck is barely holding on to his sanity as rescue efforts are underway and time is running out. chimney is keeping it together as best he can but there isn't much that he and buck can do. he can't let himself fall apart because buck is already a stiff breeze away from clawing his own skin off and somebody has to keep their cool. something goes wrong—suddenly, their short amount of time has gotten shorter, and they may only have enough of a window to get one out before it's too late for the other. buck, who has been ranting and arguing and screaming this whole time... is silent. he is silent, and he stares straight ahead at nothing in particular, and we know that no matter which way the scales tip, his soul will be destroyed all the same.
eddie regards maddie for a moment. grief, heartbreak, anger, all flicker over him, but what settles is determination. he says that neither of them are going to leave again. that they'll survive together, or not at all, or leave it to the universe to decide.
of course they make it out. by the skin of their teeth, they make it out, working together, clawing their way back to life and love and possibility. maddie makes it out first, and eddie sees buck as she falls into chim's waiting arms. he watches as buck sees his sister, and reaches out to take her hand with trembling fingers and white knuckles, but there is no relief, no happiness in his red-rimmed eyes. just a deep, unspeakable grief, until his eyes slide past maddie and meet eddie's.
finally: relief. and then he is in buck's arms, a perfect parallel to chim and maddie, and we see eddie's face over buck's shoulder, and we know. he is in love, and buck is in love, and eddie knows, and he sinks into his partner's embrace with joy and acceptance.
after that, who knows? maybe a grand confession. a moment of quiet understanding. a passionate post-rescue kiss. a chaste, tender kiss in some kitchen or other. maybe eddie panics later, or maybe he's found peace for once. maybe buck has realized something and he makes the first move. maybe it happens immediately. maybe it takes a while, takes discussions about how it'll affect work and christopher and whether it's worth risking all that they have for all that they want.
and maybe they'll ask whether it's even a risk at all.

whenever i've imagined the upcoming bucktommy kiss (which is a lot) where buck initiates the kiss at the wedding once tommy saves chim, i imagine buck runs up to tommy and immediately kisses him in front of everyone. which is great and all, but now i think it'd be great if it starts with a simple hug first. like there's a slowmo scene of tommy getting off the plane, looking around for someone he knows, and then buck yells his name and sprints over, we hear tommy let out a soft "evan" before he's stumbling at the force of buck's body colliding with his as he hugs him so tightly. and as buck holds him, there's a few reaction shots. bobby has a slightly raised eyebrow, wondering when they got so close, athena looks a lil confused but happy nonetheless, hen and karen share a look, maybe we see buck's parents share one too (but less knowing/sweet and more worried), and eddie smiles a lil. let's out a sigh of relief because tommy is his friend too and he's glad he's safe. and THEN buck kisses tommy. and oh my god we get to see everyone's face switch immediately. the shock and the confusion and the pride. oh it'd just be so beautiful.

I love the big, ridiculous, dramatic disasters on 9-1-1, but I'd really love to see an episode where they don't go to a single call.
And I don't mean, the focus is elsewhere and we just don't see the calls. I mean they don't get a single call. Like the opposite of the quiet episode.
I want like, Buck climbing the walls, Eddie trying to pretend he isn't also bored out of his mind. Hen trying to be responsible and do responsible things but getting sucked into shenanigans. Bobby suspicious he gets to cook and eat an entire meal. Maybe Chim trying to avoid a conversation with someone and having to find excuses around the station to escape. Or begging Maddie to send them literally any job so he doesn't have to listen to Buck whining (especially when Tommy can barely respond to his texts because he's so busy).
And maybe they get one call and everyone rushes to get ready, gets in the trucks to go and then.... Slowly and sadly reverse back into the shed when they're stood down because another unit is closer.
I want them running out of things to clean, playing stupid games like fuck, marry or kill, doing personality quizzes ('Which animal are you? Buck and Cap both got golden retrievers!'). Just... The levels of stupidity they could get into with nothing else to do.
(And Bobby somehow gets an entire month's worth of paperwork done before he emerges into the disaster that is the firehouse, smoke alarm going off, feathers everywhere for some reason and just the entire 118 looking like guilty puppies)

Let me get a taste
{ao3 link}
“Hen asked if we’re fucking,” Tommy says as he sits down at their table with his cake.
“Uh, what?” Buck asks. There’s no way he heard Tommy correctly.
“Hen asked if we’re fucking,” Tommy repeats. He gestures between them with his fork. “You and me. Well, I guess technically she and Karen both asked. They ambushed me to ask about my intentions.”
He takes a bite of cake and eats it slowly, moaning at the taste, just to be an asshole and rub it in Buck’s face that he can’t have any. Buck sometimes wishes he was the kind of person who found that annoying, but he likes it when Tommy does stuff like this; teases him and plays with him just this side of mean. Really likes it. And Tommy knows it.
“What’d you say?” Buck asks, a little dazed, caught in the fantasy of licking frosting off of Tommy’s lip.
He wants cake so badly. It’s bad enough he had to skip the mac & cheese at the buffet, now this? The cake on Tommy’s plate looks soft and fruity. Fuck keto. Fuck bodybuilding. It’s not fair.
Tommy licks frosting off of his fork and Buck salivates. “I told them we’re taking it slow. You’re setting the pace, and I’m just trying to keep up.” He lifts an eyebrow and savors another bite of cake
Buck laughs. “You made it sound like we’re fucking like rabbits.”
“Mhmm,” Tommy says around the cake in his mouth.
“And you… also said we’re taking it slow?” Buck’s eyebrows pull together in confusion.
“I did. They’re gonna have a hell of a time figuring that one out.” Tommy smiles as he takes the next bite of cake, obviously proud of the trick he’s played on their friends.
“You might be evil,” Buck teases.
“You love it,” Tommy says, scrunching his nose. “And anyway, it’s none of their business. You’re not a teenage girl in 1954, going out with some biker from the wrong side of the tracks. You’re a grown man. You can suss out my intentions for yourself. I’d hope you know by now that I didn’t agree to a second date at your sister’s wedding just to get in your pants.”
“I do know that,” Buck assures him. Their sex life is pretty active—very satisfying—but they’ve spent far more time talking, working out, cooking, and even cuddling than they have with their dicks out. It’s probably the most well-rounded relationship Buck has ever had. He feels respected. “You’re a total gentleman.”
“I wouldn’t go that far. I have to admit,” Tommy pitches his voice down, “seeing you in that medal… I’m feeling a little less than honorable right now.” He gathers the last bite of cake onto his fork.
Buck feels a thrill run through his body at Tommy’s words, but he’s watching that cake with rapt attention. “Give me the last bite,” he says. He sounds pleading even to his own ears, so he doubles down. “Tommy, please.”
“No,” Tommy deadpans. “If you’re gonna break ketosis, you’re gonna do it with someone else’s cake.”
“I don’t want someone else’s cake, baby, I want yours.” Buck goes for charming, flirty, seductive, but he’s desperate. He hasn’t had any carbs in days and the cake smells so good. He’s about to launch himself at Tommy and take that last forkful of cake himself.
“Mmm, lucky me,” Tommy purrs. “Pretty boy wants my cake all to himself and here I am, just trying to keep up.”
Tommy pops the cake into his mouth just as Buck lunges at it. His hand lands on Tommy’s empty plate.
“Evil!” Buck gasps, laughing.
“You love it,” Tommy repeats around his mouthful of cake.
“I really do.”
Tommy barely has time to swallow before Buck is kissing him; open-mouthed and honestly a little too dirty considering where they are and which homophobic captains are still around. Buck is chasing the taste of cake and frosting on Tommy’s lips, on his tongue, and he can’t help but moan as the flavors swirl and burst to life in his mouth: vanilla and strawberry and Tommy. He’s never tasted anything better.
Tommy pulls back before Buck starts licking the sugar off of his teeth. He presses a hand into Buck’s chest to gently push him back into his seat.
“Easy there, Evan. We’re still in public.”
“We got medals for breaking the law.” Buck’s eyes are dark, hungry. Now that he’s had a taste he wants seconds, thirds. Tommy’s been teasing him and all Buck wants is to get his mouth back on Tommy and never come up for air. “We can do whatever we want.”
Tommy laughs. “If only that were true. Save your appetite, though. I might have some cake you can eat at home.” He smirks, eyebrow raised. “If you behave.”
Buck smiles, wide and flirty. “Is it keto-friendly?” He leans closer again.
“All protein, baby.”

If I were Buck right now I'd put a bi and a rainbow flag with "ally" on my Instagram profile, then post a picture of me kissing Tommy on the cheek, then turn off my phone.

the way some bucktommy's are reacting now that they've realized tommy might be gone soon is so funny to watch
they are actually, genuinely angry that "tommy was just being used"
like yes, of course he was; that's what a plot device is
and I've been saying this the whole time, but they really do live in a different reality
while we've been here watching a character we've loved for the past six years finally get a much-awaited queer arc, they came in and latched onto a character who has appeared in less than 10 episodes (out of a 106 episode run, mind you)
and I'm not saying they can't have their headcanons (most of which are just traits/plot points taken directly from eddie's character or things they had to pay lfj to pull out of his ass), but they really shouldn't be surprised when the story continues to progress in the same direction it was always going to
like, believe what you will, but at the end of the day the material in the show itself doesn't build him up to be anything other than a plot device to move the story forward
in the simplest terms possible, buck and eddie are the main characters, and tommy will be here just long enough to fulfill his purpose in their story

love to think about buck thinking all his problems are solved re: eddie hanging out with other guys that are not him. he is like. everything is so copacetic now hehe✌️😙 he was only ever feeling weird about everything because he was soo into tommy. but now he's seeing him and eddie's not a threat to him and he understands his feelings now!! he won't ever dig for information from a 13 year old, play basketball, or maim his best friend ever again!! he's freeee!!! until eddie rolls up to the station one morning talking about some guy from the 133 he met at one of the chief's poker nights. *cue the record scratch and horror music that starts playing in buck's head* buck is like, "ha ha ha, are you going to do pickup basketball with him too? or no wait, don't tell me he can fly a helicopter too and he's going to fly you out somewhere ha ha ha ha" and eddie just looks at him like 🤨 and tells him, "no he can't fly, but yeah- he's into basketball too so we'll probably get into that," with a little shrug like it's no big deal. and buck- buck is trying to keep his composure but his brain won't stop spinning and suddenly he needs to have a good look at eddie's fridge calendar and figure out how to convince chim to join him for another pickup game

Okay Oliver and Ryan with their dirty suits and everything is giving me major The Hangover vibes 👀.
Like what if Chim goes missing and Buck and Eddie are running around in a panic trying to find him.
Meanwhile Chim is just chilling in hospital with a juice box 🧃
Hen knows where Chim is (he called her) but she doesn’t say a word because with dumb and dumber occupied with trying to find him, she can actually get shit done 😂

so, more 7x06 buck's pov, and hopefully the last snippet before I post this lol
prev snippet
___
As soon as he sees Tommy walk through the door, he feels heat and want and desire mixed with affection and endearment consume him. Because this man – this gorgeous, cool, interesting man, with the most adorable cleft, and so smooth and charming he makes Buck turn into a blushing blubbering mess – this man is walking in, still in his turnout gear, completely covered in soot and ash, hands held up apologetically, a remorseful, worried look on his face. Tommy seems to have rushed here straight after work, clearly not even stopping by the station to change or shower, or even wipe his face, goddammit. And he looks hot. Buck’s seen firefighters look like this, hell, he looked like this himself many times, but there’s something about Tommy, in his gear, all dirty and disheveled, and here – something about this image takes Buck’s breath away, and he cant help the smile spreading across his face.
“Sorry I’m late.” Tommy apologizes, as if him being here at all, instead of passing out in bed after a long, exhausting shift, wasn’t making a thousand butterflies come to life in Buck’s stomach. “That fire was a beast.” he adds, and Buck-
Buck can only respond with a simple “So are you,” and crash his lips against Tommy’s. Because Tommy is. God, he’s such a beast.

Consider,,, the 118 is working on the plane crash, Eddie and Chim are teamed up together. The 133 comes to help, Captain Mehta sees Eddie and comes up to say hi.
Mehta: hey, Diaz! Where’s your partner?
Eddie: ah, he’s working with someone else today, he should be on the southwest side
Mehta: well, if you ever want to bring him on another poker date he’s more than welcome,,, just so long as he doesn’t gain anymore math superpowers
Chim drops whatever he’s holding and whips around to look at Eddie who looks like he’s just been struck dumb. Internally, Eddie is combing through all of his memories of Buck, realizing that maybe their relationship has never been quite as platonic as he thought. That maybe his feelings for Buck have never been platonic.
They’re at a disaster, though, and they can’t talk about it. They don’t say anything until they get back to the station, where Chim drags Eddie outside to talk.
Chim: Eddie…
Eddie: you can’t tell anyone, Chimney. I can’t… I won’t put Buck through any sort of conversation about all of *gestures at himself* this unless I know for sure what I want. Who I want.
Cue Chimney trying to keep a secret, Eddie being so, so fucking weird, and Buck being in his own personal hell because suddenly Eddie is avoiding him and spending all of his time with Chim of all people.

Idc if it's an episode or someone writes it but I need this in any way possible
Buck worked at a ranch
With cowboys
And we all know that cowboys are as straight as boiled pasta
Imagine for some reason they have to stop a fire at a small ranch and need both the 118 and the 217
IMAGINE Buck reunites with some of his old friends and introduces them and Tommy
And one goes FUCKING FINALLY !!!!
But Buck's confused because ??? Wdym finally???!?
And even tho He's always been AN ALLY™ he somehow missed that WOW none of his friends were straight
And it's even funnier because except for that one person, who knew Buck is an oblivious puppy, all of the others THOUGHT that Buck was out and knew he was bi but he didn't because he lived in a glass closet
And meanwhile Tommy is just trying not to laugh because somehow his boyfriend (who he truly loves) managed to live surrounded by queer men that wanted to jump him without realizing for a second that he's not straight.
He just went working at the ranch ogling everyone's ass without a single second thought to spare.

It really does make me wonder what else has been shot down by Fox. Because buddie is obviously the thing that we’re more able to clearly connect dots on even before Oliver started saying anything about any of it, but you know it’s not the only thing, we just don’t have the threads to pull on for anything else

Eddie Diaz I love you so much because even if it’s not Buck’s intention there is literally nothing that would take more attention away from a couple on their wedding day than the bride’s brother low-key coming out to everyone he knows by showing up with a man for his date. It would be all anyone was talking about. Eddie is so good for lightly, but firmly, calling him out on this. If Buck never kisses you Eddie, just know that I would. I would.
