🐚 ྀ࿓Aang is pretty much protective of you if you can’t bend. So if you are a non bender, you better believe this boy makes sure you are by his side at all times of the traveling. Even after he finishes the Hundred year war. He’s the avatar, of course there’s still petty ass people after him.

🐚 ྀ࿓now if you weren’t a non bender and had a bending skill of some sort, he is still protective of you. You could be a master at bending, and this dude will still make sure you are behind him in danger. You two are such a powerful duo when bending, now a good trio is you, toph, and Aang at all once.

🐚 ྀ࿓you two are basically platonic soulmates who are always found by each other. Like that one time you went to go shopping at a market, and Aang followed you secretly since it’s his job to protect you at all time. Or that one time you lost Aang in the crowd and he immediately found you by your voice in an instant.

🐚 ྀ࿓”I’m gonna kill that asshole…” “please don’t.” Those words basically describes your friendship with Aang. Literally after Aang got his grow spurt and he was taller than you, you better believe this now wise boy would put you on his shoulder to drag you away from fights.

🐚 ྀ࿓you are the chaos in the peace and he is the peace within the chaos. You two are two peas in a pond, yin & yang. You have your moments where it’s the opposite sometimes. But where’s the fun when you create the problems whilst Aang has to drag you away from causing more problems.

🐚 ྀ࿓smack his head…he dares you. He knows you do it for jokes. But this boy is tired of having red hand marks on his head and feeling the painful burn.. if you did one more time, he is actually putting you in rock time out. You could try to get out. But this airbender is making sure he is having a kick out of this.

🐚 ྀ࿓when training with Aang, he tries to go easy on while you don’t. Of course you care about Aang deeply like he does for you, but you ain’t no pussy. You literally used chi blocking on him cause he hesitated blasting you away with his airbending. At the end you had to smack his head for trying to not blast you. And of course he still didn’t learn his listen as he just dodges.

🐚 ྀ࿓Aang is very affectionate person, everyone knows that. So of course he is holding your hand, waist if you allow it, wrap his arm around your shoulder. He might not be that much of a touchy person, but it feels nice to have the person that’s like his other half by him.

🐚 ྀ࿓cuddles is a must if you or him have a bad day. Yes you once snored while trying to move away from the airbender in your sleep. Aang wasn’t letting that happen at all cause he pulled you to his chest as he falls asleep.

🐚 ྀ࿓random arguments with Aang is also a must as you two argue over the most stupidest things ever. Say for example, your favorite book was gone. So you accused Aang of using it for something actually dumb. Aang got offended as he dramatically gasp and blamed you instead for being so dense for not keeping up with your stuff. And that’s where you would tackle him and start hitting his head. Mostly smacking his bald head cause it’s funny😭

🐚 ྀ࿓this sweetheart of an airbender will teach you about his culture. Now if you are part of one of the nations, you teach him your nation of course. It’s like trading Pokémon cards for more Pokémon cards. He will probably do something so you can wear an airbender outfit, just so people can see you two are best friends for life. Literally.

🐚 ྀ࿓I can see you trying to ignore Aang for something petty, and Aang is not having it as communication is key. He will literally pick you up over his shoulder and put you down so he can talk to you face to face. He’s serious about you, so of course he’s not letting you be this petty.

🐚 ྀ࿓yk how Aang had his hair grown out, yeah you actually liked it grown out like that. It was cute and you told him that in confidence. At first he thought you were lying so you can make fun of it. But when he saw how you kept playing with his hair. He actually was thinking about keep his hair grown out like this. His darkish brown hair was suiting on him. He’d actually fall asleep with his head on you as you play with it.

🐚 ྀ࿓Aang will never forget the moment he almost went avatar state for you. All because you wanted to be reckless and almost died. A fire nation soldier tried to burn you alive, but you were quick to dodge it. While for Aang, he didn’t get a clear view to see if you dodged it or not. So this man’s tattoos glowed scared and worried. Mostly angry if you died as he was about to burn the solider. Kyoshi was telling him to. But that all stopped when you grabbed his shoulder. Aang stops to look at you and hug you tightly, his heart went back to normal sped.

🐚 ྀ࿓to end this off, you guys are practically platonic soulmates who are made to be by each other’s side. Aang agrees and you, you just nod while you stuff your face in food. And Aang eats calmly compared to you. So if you choke on your food, he is smacking the shit out of your back worried if you actually choke on your food.

Scout, Pauling, and Ludwig are the main three- scout, who’s an (admittedly shitty) airbender but not the avatar, who ran away after his father left. Once spotted by fire nation soldiers, he is presumed to be the avatar- and scout basks in the glory of his false identity. Pauling- a studious, too serious for her own good, non-bender, who’s Medic’s student. She’s of the southern water tribe, treating medic like her paternal figure after the disappearance of her aunt. Medic is (unbeknownst to pauling and scout) a blood bender who was exiled for his practices. He doesn’t seem to care for anyone or anything, also being very jovial and cheery.

All Pauling and Scout know is that Ludwig was exiled from the northern water tribe then fled to the south for an undisclosed reason. Pauling never bothered to pry and the Scout was too intimidated to. Here the avatar cycle has indeed been broken. It’s up to a group of nine ragtag men and one mousy girl to defeat Gray Mann.

And the main three villains are soldier, demo, and sniper who're all fire nation folk. Sort of the team rocket; never truly competent enough to cause real damage, that or their hearts truly aren’t in it.

Soldier's a fire bender who specializes in jet propulsion and was kicked out of the army. He thinks if he steals back the avatar, they'll let him back in. A weapon since childhood, once a bully, always a bully, or so he’s heard.Character arc being the realization the fire nation army isn't worth fighting for. Surprisingly, he is very good with spirits, opposite to his best friend, Tavish, who despises them.

Demo’s just trying to impress his mum and be a good friend to the Soldier. People pleasing tendencies, that's his character arc. He's supposedly a non bender who's mighty good with swords; but underneath his inconspicuous-ish eye patch holds a combustion bending tattoo. Only Jane knows this. Well-versed in calligraphy.

Sniper is a 26 year old yuyan archer who was discharged for failing a mission while he was young. He joined the other two with the same goal as the Soldier. His yuyan archer tattoo still remains. He's a non bender with excellent aim, who grew up on the rural outskirts of the fire nation. His character arc is something about not adhering to expectations and learning who he's fighting for; a combination of the demoman and the soldier’s lessons.

Spy's a crusty airbender constantly sporting a mask to hide his tattoos, and knife. Nobody has a clue where he's from and he takes orders from whoever pays him best. His airbending tricks are so subtle, the public believes him to be a crafty nonbender. Usually said tricks are only invisibility and voice alteration. While not assassinating political figures he traverses the spirit world looking for his wife, a fellow air nomad, avoiding physical aging in brief sprints of time. He returns on a well paid mission to kill the “avatar,” which was presumably the scout. Little does he know, that weird whiteboy is just some lame airbender. Who’s also his son. His bad.

Engineers the metalbender; an art perfected by his ancestors and passed down in whispers to him. I haven't developed him much. He teaches the Scout what he knows while obscuring information on how he got that metal arm. Him and the Pyro have a shared love of blacksmithing. From an explosion, he thinks..

Pyro's a spirit probably. Nobody knows what he is. Where he’s from? Pyro. What’s his gender? Pyro. Guy who sets things on fire. Presumably human judging by his questionable use of what looks to be fire bending. And also the Spy's companion! They met in the spirit world. He and the Soldier form a close bond quite quickly thanks to their good graces with spirits (to Tavish’s immense dismay).

Heavy's an earth bender who continues to win in underground fights. Residing in ba sing se with his three sisters and elderly mother, scout pauling and medic meet him in an earth bender championship. Despite what his appearance suggests, his patience is unmatched, which is his greatest strength. He has near -perfect seismic sense. He and the Medic get on quite well, and after the fire lord has been struck down, form a duo in the ring, earning even more won championships.

I've caved. Here's my Avatar The Last Airbender uni au and modern/non bender au headcanons.

Here's what I think the main kids uni majors/minors would be:

Aang: wildlife conservation with a minor in political sciences

Katara: medicine, education minor

Sokka: engineering, polisci minor

Toph: geology with a martial arts minor (changed my mind, education minor)

Zuko: forced to do law & politics by his family but switches to history/anthropology, keeping politics as a minor

Azula: law w a psychology minor

Mai: forced to do politics by family but wants to do art, history minor

Ty Lee: training in acrobatics and performance at a performing arts school and works at the circus

Suki: human relations and activism, martial arts minor

Yue: Dance major (same school as Ty Lee, polisci minor

Living situations:

Katara and Sokka flat together and eventually Aang becomes a permanent resident

Toph lives right across from them, she likes her own space and independence but she'd never want to be too far from her friends

Zuko lives with Iroh above his teashop and works there part time

Suki has a sharehouse with the kyoshi warriors (her hockey team)

Ty Lee and Yue get assigned room-mates first year and became pretty quick friends, they continue to live together afterwards

Azula has her own apartment (of course). So does Mai, but she spends so much time at Azulas she basically lives there. Neither of them would admit it but they much prefer it to having whole houses to themselves.

Yue is Inuit and Sámi and her family lives in north-east Canada

Suki is mixed Chinese, Thai and French-Canadian and live in an island off of Quebec

Have not decided where the uni would be but probably BSSU (Ba Sing Se uni) cause I know a lot of ppl use that as the uni name

I don't know a ton about US and Canadian geography so if y'all have ideas for what states or provinces the characters would hail from (especially what state/city Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee grew up in) I would def appreciate the suggestions

Aang has a Tibetan Mastiff called Appa and Sokka has a Siamese cat called Momo (he found him behind a dumpster looking for food scraps and Sokka knew he'd found a kindred spirit,,, much to Kataras initial dismay)

Aang grew up in a sort of hippie/alternative living foster home that taughtbuddist beliefs, he never knew his real parents but he was okay with that.

I'm a fan of bigcorp ceo Ozai but also political tyrant Ozai works as well so I'm srsly torn on that. Politician Ozai would either have to be a nation ruler or American ambassador because I like to think Zuko and Azula moved around a lot as kids so he couldn't have a job that keeps him in ine place. That's why I like the idea of ceo Ozai. He would still have a lot of political power and it would still mean moving around a lot plus him being super corrupt and exploiting his workers is fun for angst.

Oh and!! Zuko and Azula lived in Singapore for part of highschool and their family visited a lot for holidays. Since Tophs parents and Ozai worked together, Zuko and Azula were around at The Beifongs a lot and entertained themselves by making fun of Toph for hanging out with a "poor tree hugging commoner" like Aang

So... *leans against this post* I got invested into this idea and the discord server I'm in didn't help and grew it into an entire au, so now you guys get Our Life x Avatar headcanons made by the server :)

Cove would 100% be a water bender. However, he'd get his bending from Kyra instead of Cliff. Cove used to learn water bending from his mom, but when Kyra and Cliff got divorced, Cove didn't have anyone to teach him water bending anymore (since I see Cliff as a non bender in this au).

Derek is an earth bender. If his siblings are also earth benders, (or benders in general) I can see him being the one to try and keep everything in order and not chaotic. If they aren't benders, then I feel like Derek would be relied on a lot.

Now Baxter? he wouldn't be a bender. His family probably came from a lineage of benders and when Baxter turned out as a non bender, his parents would push him to be better in other things, but would always be disappointed that he wasn't a bender.

Baxter being a non-bender would make his feelings of inadequacy worse. He would have to find ways to stand out in a world where people can bend things like fire and water and move the ground.

Qiu would be a fire bender and would amazing at it. In step 1, they'd use his bending to impress people and their popularity would probably be bigger since he can bend almost flawlessly.

In step 2, Qiu wouldn't use their bending in public anymore and would only use it around the people he's close with.

Tamarack would be an earth bender, but she wouldn't be good at it. She wouldn't put too much time in training and wouldn't want to since she thinks earth bending would destroy the forest.

In step 2, Tamarack would try to practice her earth bending due to her being insecure that she can't bend too well, but she struggles with it.

Renee would be a fire bender, which helped her friendship with Qiu in their childhood. While she wouldn't be as good at it than Qiu is, she can manage it well

Liz would be a fire bender. Pamela would be a fire bender and Noelani would be a water bender. I can see Pamela and Noelani adopting Liz and a MC that they could teach bending to if they were benders.

As for Lee, she would be an Airbender.

Terry would be a water bender while Miranda is a Airbender.

Xavier would be a non-bender and it's one of the things that helped them and Baxter get along.

Now, if either MC is the avatar...

Cove would be surprised when you first meet, but he gets over it pretty quickly. He'd be glad that there's someone else who can waterbend with him.

When Derek meets an Avatar!MC, he would be shocked and it'd take a while for Derek to see it as normal.

An Avatar!MC would make Derek be harder on himself and push his earthbending abilities to be a suitable partner for the avatar.

Baxter's problem with seeing value in himself and feeling like he's not good enough to be with the MC would be doubled if he's with an Avatar!MC. 

When first meeting Avatar!MC, Baxter would freak out internally but keep a cool front

If Baxter is with an Avatar!MC, his parents would see it as an opportunity for better connections and Baxter would hate that because he doesn't want his relationship with the MC to just be something to satisfy his parents.

When Qiu meets an Avatar!MC they would be surprised at first but would take it in a stride and proudly talk about being friends with the Avatar to anyone that will listen

If asked, Qiu would be happy to help MC with fire bending (they get even more giddy if they’re at crush with the MC)

Tamarack would be in awe that they're the avatar because they can control all four of the elements rather than the social status and influence that comes with being the avatar

Noelani and Pamela would go into shock because they adopted a child that's the avatar, but would try their best to help an avatar!mc learn the elements

I NEED A BACKSTORY ON YOUR AU BUMI !!!

Sure dude! Just remember a few things about this before we start. It's an au, so none of it effects canon. I know this is gonna be a little brutal, but I like every atla character including aang and bumi. This is non kataang. Nothing against kataang, but I feel like this story couldn't work if it was. Keep an open mind, though. This could still be a fun little read.

Character death warning btw

We need to get a few aang details to understand bumi. First of all, air nomads are polyamorous (with women primarily having multiple male partners). Aang is also polyamorous in keeping with his culture. This to say, he gets a lot of partners. He tells them all about his sexuality first so they can completely be informed on having a relationship with him.

Aang works on a lot of things after the war but one of those things is rebuilding villages. That's where he meets kyoke

They fall for each other. Everything's great. He decides at 19ish to have baby with her. It's a little young, but he feels like he doesn't have much time and needs to have kids. At night he gets visions of his ancestors burning and begging for him to give them a chance to come back.

So he has bumi. And he loves him and brings him everywhere and excitedly tells his friends to watch for signs of bumi being an Airbender. They never come.

It's around when bumi is five that aang really starts to give up on bumi being a bender at all. No air nomad has ever had a nonbender before (as far as aang can tell, the records are hard to find now), so he is deeply ashamed. This puts strain on he and bumis relationship.

Now, kyoke loves bumi despite him being a nonbender, and loves aang despite him being around less and less. She knows she shares him with the world, she's okay with that. You know who isn't? Kyokes parents. She's unmarried, so they marry her off to Xohir. He's a nobleman who thought he could gain political clout with the avatar by raising his son.

Xohir is very disappointed that bumi is a nonbender. He thinks having an air bender would be more politically significant. Aang offers to help kyoke get a divorce, but she doesn't want to because she wants to respect her parents wishes.

Bumi sees this as abandonment.

Aang has three other kids. Yelaan, palkyi, and tenzin. They're all benders. Tenzins the air bender. Aang still has this feeling that he doesn't have much time so he's cramming all the knowledge he can into tenzin, which is time consuming. Bumi feels unloved because aang gets to teach the rest bending, but can't think of anything so personal to bond with bumi over.

Bumi bonds with Sokka. As a bitter teen he becomes an equalist. He keeps it secret since the equalist riots are intense, and benders really get offended by this.

Around this time, si Wong wants independence from the earth kingdom. Aang is doing peace talks to try to smooth things over.

The equalists assassinate aang, he is only 37-38ish years old.

Bumi tells tenzin that he was an equalist but he's not anymore. Yet he still feels guilty. Tenzin, who is only 15 years old, tells bumi that he hates him and asks for him to leave before he tells everyone else.

Bumi doesn't return to air temple island.

Things in si Wong boil over without peacetalks and aang. Because of their alliance with the earth kingdom, the United Republic must join.

Aang built a country with very little military presence (on purpose), but they need one for war. There is a draft. And bumi, unable to prove his religious exemption of being an air nomad, is drafted.

He will spend nearly 16 years in that war :)

Tied with the Kaigaku art on the recent poll was the Avatar AU. So here is some stuff on our Avatar the Last Airbender AU for Demon Slayer which we are calling Sticks and Stones.

Zenitsu is a blind orphan born in the Earth kingdom who unfortunately lives in Ba Sing Se. He’s also the Avatar. He spends a good amount of his childhood on the streets before the Earth Kingdom authorities finally get their directional geomancy to work and figure out who the Avatar is. Then he gets brought (cough kidnapped) to the Upper Ring and is protected (watched) by the Dai Li. The Dai Li impresses on him that it's essential he learns the elements in order according to the Avatar cycle so he learns Earth bending first. The Dai Li stall on getting him a proper Earth bending master never mind the rest of the elements. Once he does learn a bit of earth bending, he uses it alongside his enhanced hearing to navigate the world better. His animal companion is a badgermole by the name of Maru who he made friends with at age 10. Eventually Zenitsu realizes that something isn’t right with the Dai Li and escapes with the help of Genya who he sorta made friends with when he was on the streets. The two of them are framed for the death of the Earth King, making them fugitives.

Genya is a non bender that lives in the Earth Kingdom. His entire family, sans Sanemi, was killed by Fire Nation soldiers. Sanemi left him behind so he helps Zenitsu with the condition that they find his older brother on the way. Genya has some things to say and maybe some frustration to unload (a punch in the face). He starts out using a sword then switches to several long range weapons and finally settles on smithing his own gun. 

Sanemi is a non bender that eventually figures out he’s an air bender. He runs an illegal fringe resistance group focused on revenge against the fire nation. He’s a little too black and white and not the best about reducing collateral damage. He left Genya behind in the Earth Kingdom for safety reasons.

Inosuke is a water bender from the swamps so more like a vine bender. He likes covering himself in vines and making a swamp monster to destroy enemies. He has a catgator pet named Shine [she-neh] that he sometimes also covers in vines and rides into battle. His weapon of choice is a big club which he acquired from Giyuu (after much bugging). Makomo taught him how to wield it. He’s also covered in henna. He joins the Avatar’s little road trip on the way.

Aoi is a water bender from the Northern Water tribe and a healer who joins the Avatar’s group on their journey. Inosuke drives her insane because he didn’t know water could heal and is basically a self taught menace. She refuses to use water bending to attack but she does end up learning defensive moves in secret, affected by the rest of the group. Eventually she learns blood bending too. 

Giyuu, Sabito, Makomo, and Urokodaki are all from the Southern Water tribe. They are all water benders except Sabito. Urokodaki adopted the three of them after they lost their family to Fire Nation attacks. Giyuu uses a water tribe club, Makomo fights with an ice shiv that she creates with bending, and Sabito has a boomerang and a short sword. 

We have more but that will be for a future post. The state of the Fire nation and fire benders like Tanjirō and Nezuko requires quite a bit of explanation.

Yeah a couple of the early posts got kinda lost! But anyway! ml atla au my beloved!

So it's ML in the world of ATLA and it kinda... goes on its' own story arcs? It's not a 1-1 on either plot more just the characters in the environment and things playing out.

Marinette and Adrien share the Avatar role using my Split Avatar AU concept. I used this a few times in other places but short summary: One person has the Elements, one has the Spirit Nonsense. Both have to work together to use their powers and do their job. Sometimes literally as the Avatar State requires synchronization.

Anyway! Marinette has the Bending ability, starting with Waterbending and is from the Northern Water Tribe. Adrien is a non-Bender but has Spirit abilities, and is from the Fire Nation.

Various plots include:

General 'Marinette travels the world to learn the Elements. Gathers the Miracuclass as the new Team Avatar'. Nino and Kim are childhood friends that join her.

Emilie is in some Spirit-induced Coma. Gabriel initially reaches out to Avatar Mari to see if she can help, but she's just learned she is the Avatar and even if they weren't Split her abilities are so new to her. Gabriel starts looking into other routes.

Adrien meets Mari and feels some connection so runs away from home to join Team Avatar. Chloé and Sabrina come with him. Oh also Chloé is princess of the Fire Nation because I fucking can.

Kagami ends up joining because she was originally a bounty hunter sent to bring Adrien and co back home, but she fell for Marinette's charms and taking Adrien back would make her sad. Also she took her mom's dragon, Tatsu for this trip.

Mari and Adrien realize they have some fucky bond and end up needing to research, which leads them to a library(no not that one) where they meet Alya who is down to do research on the Avatar!

The gang runs into Lila who is a conartist, tricking people into thinking she's the Avatar by using her Bending to give an illusion that she's bending multiple elements. While Mari calls her out on this, she recognizes that Lila is a talented as hell Airbender and drags her onto the team. (Lila is getting power of friendshipped whether she likes it or not). Also Lila has a lemur named Bandito!

Alix is a Kyoshi Warrior. I think that speaks for itself!

Brainwash Underground Fight Club!!! this is my favorite side story! Basically Bob Roth had some connections that got him these kinda. Mind control mask things. And he was kidnapping kids with talented bending to compete in an undergroud fight club. Among the victims are Juleka, Rose, Mylene and Ivan. Juleka in particular is a powerful as hell Earthbender who became Champion of the fight ring. Team Avatar gets involved because they meet Luka who was trying to find where Juleka and Rose disappeared to.

They track down where Bob got those masks and they find Max who uh. Well he didn't /intend/ for his invention to be used that way! What he was trying to do was make a way for Spirits to be communicated with on this Realm without needing to have ones own spiritual nonsense. And a prototype was a mask to channel them but was scrapped due to, ya know, possession.

Zuko (and Sokka) in Avatar Chibi Short - Bending Battle

Watching the Avatar Chibi Short - Bending Battle was such a weird experience. The animation itself is nice and cute, but there is something truly messed up when Book 1!Zuko - the antagonist - is the only one non-abusive bender toward Sokka. And Katara, Aang and Toph are literally Sokka’s family and friends!

The short animation is about an argument between Katara, Aang and Toph whose element is the best (Sokka tried to join their bender game but his boomerang skill wasn’t taken into account). 

To prove her point, Katara - Sokka’s younger sister - froze him and literally shattered into pieces.

Toph used Sokka as a ball in a flipper-like game created by her earthbending. 

When Sokka outright said he is tired of being used as everyone’s dummy,

Aang used his airbending to turn him into a balloon.

and once Sokka fell down into lake, Aang was just laughing, so proud of himself and his element.

And there is Zuko (and I can't stress enough, in his Book 1’s outfit of the antagonist) who joined the argument by throwing a flame at Sokka…

except there is no visible sign that Sokka was scorched. Only the fish he held in hand catched the fire and was burned (cooked). 

And there is something to say about that scene, because the animation could easily mark that Sokka was burned in a comedic way - a bit of smoke or smoldering flame here and there - but it didn't. And yeah, in previous scenes there is no permanent damage done either, but we can see Sokka's distress (and pain in cause of Toph's bending?) but it is absent from the fire scene; Sokka's expression does not change at all, while the fish is literally on flame. Which is why I think Zuko's bending did not harm Sokka, and fire was actually aimed at the fish.

A fish that Sokka actually ate at the end of episode.

And even once the benders had another contest whose power/skills is the best, when Zuko was using his fire, he is the only one to actually warn others to stay away

while Aang, Katara and Toph just used their respective elements without any warning.

Look, I know this is chibi and not serious animation but damn, it truly hits hard how Zuko (and by extension, Iroh) is the only one person that did not use his element to abuse Sokka, the one non-bender in the group and actually seems to be caution of how dangerous the fire is (and how he couldn’t be aware if his face was burned with fire?) which fits nicely to the original source material and how Zuko did not use fire to burn people on purpose (as could be seen with Zhao during Agni Kai and how he apologized to Toph for burning her feets by accident).

All while Zuko is presented in his Book 1's outfit, when he played the role of antagonist.

On side note, this little animation would be great propaganda material for LoK's Amon and his Equalist movement, wouldn't it? Benders proving their might by abusing non-bender person? Oh yeah, that would be perfect propaganda.

The very personal ramblings about an AtlA AU by yours truly: A thread.

Look, listen. I am not making up a plot, because this is more like "which one is a bender/non-bender and what element were they bending if they were in an AtlA Universe".

That's all I have.

I am gonna take into consideration mainly AtlA. Feel free to suggest/discuss in comments, reblogs and replies <3

I am gonna insert a cut bc I assume it's gonna be long. Also, it's probably going to be several posts, sorry about this. It's gonna be 4-5 characters per post.

PREMISE

I am going to base my ramblings off the quote Uncle Iroh says to Zuko when he starts training again his nephew in S2, most notably the following:

[Drawing the Fire Nation symbol in the dirt] Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy and drive to achieve what they want. [Drawing the Earth Kingdom symbol] Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring. [Drawing the Air Nomad symbol] Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly concerns, and they found peace and freedom. [pause] And they apparently had great senses of humor. [Drawing the Water Tribe symbol] Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribes are capable of adapting to many things. They have a sense of community and love that holds them together through anything.

I am going to also consider my gut feeling, the characters personalities and all variables.

I am not taking into consideration LoK just because there are a lot of things that conflict directly with AtlA and also I am not trying to swing a bat towards a nest of particularly nasty wasps.

That said, here I am with the first part of my ramblings.

THE FIGHTERS

I am starting with them just because it's easier.

Tokita Ohma: I think he would be a waterbender. The water kata in the Niko style comes to my mind, I think the whole redirection speaks a lot of waterbending. He also like gains friends and gets along with everyone. He relies a lot on their support, starting from Yamashita Kazuo and then all of the other fighters. His approach is a "go with the flow" kind and overall I think it'd be perfect for a waterbender. Would he be the Avatar? Eh. Meh. Boring. I kind of am thinking of Koga as the Avatar, but I will discuss this later.

Kiryu Setsuna: I am having a lot to deliberate about him. Do I want him to be a bender? Nah. He would be Fire Nation, but in the way Mai is Fire Nation. He'd be a deadly hand-to-hand fighter, that's sure, he probably has practiced a lot, but I don't think he would be a bender at all. The man wants to NOT be flashy and firebending would really go against his "keeping a low profile" kind of schtik. Now, would he be a POISONS master? Hell yeah. He knows his herbs and will use them to harm, opposite to Dr. Hanafusa, who has the same skillset, but a different ethic around using that.

Gaolang Wongsawat: now, I think he would be a perfect Earthbender (tiger style). Enduring, solid, facing stuff head on, etc. I have also seen the punches and the kicks this man lands, they are as solid as the crust of the earth. I don't think he is good with changes and he needs something really big for him to do stuff differently. He is a very good earthbending master and he probably does the earthbending tournaments too. Hope he has not fought the Blind Bandit yet lol.

Hatsumi Sen: now, here is another easy one. He would be an airbender. Would he be an ORTHODOX airbender? Oh absolutely not. He'd be a nightmare, but his techniques are flawless and he has got the spirit of an airbender. And also a very good sense of humour lol, though Shino would not find it amusing. He technically is a master, practically he was never formally recognized due to the whole being unorthodox and lax following of the rules.

Yoroizuka Saw Paing: now, here I am very undecided, but I think that based on his backstory I can concoct something. Now, I fully believe he is a firebender all the way, but because his dad and his older brother died, then I think he would have been taken by the in-universe equivalent of Kiyoshi Island (Village of the Dawn?), and so the community and the village made him change. He may or may not be an honorary member of the Kiyoshi warriors, firebending and all.

i watched a bunch of videos on how bad the netflix adaption of atla is and anyway here's my ygo atla au thoughts

i guess yugi making the avatar is the easiest solution he is extremely aang-like (aang's kuzon speech and saying to zuko "do you think we could've been friends" is a stand out moment) and actually you know what his play tactics of evade and weave work well with aang's airbending (i was going to point to a specific fight with zuko but actually i'm watching the first episode it's every fight with zuko) so okay airbender it is

(i also like the idea of maybe pulling in some season 0 ideas of this alternate side of him that takes revenge and it's possible maybe he finds relief in his avatar state maybe he's so used to being powerless that feeling that powerful feels good and it scares him)

anzu is also a really good katara stand in ("DON'T YELL AT HIM") ultimate he asked for no pickles energy i actually think she'd do better as an airbender it would match her fairy deck and i think it'd be cute for yugi and anzu to grow up together in the air temple maybe he took her with her when he ran away it kinda muddies the whole "last airbender" thing and i like the idea of the yugi gaang representing all four elements so i'll stick with waterbender for her

honda is easy he's an earthbender look at him i do like regular guy honda and generally try to keep him un-magical in magical settings but that boy is an earthbender signed up with the earth kingdom army to fight firebenders and probably has a good reason for leaving and joining up with the gaang

katsuya firebender we all saw it coming i think it might be interesting to make him "mixed" and that also lets me do other things with serenity so maybe he's from an occupied earth kingdom town he definitely struggles to control his firebending he just gets too excited and isn't patient (much like aang when he learns firebending) and much like his arc in the show he gets stronger and more in control

seto kaiba is a zuko-esque figure to me, motivated by all the wrong things, pushing him to take extreme and harmful actions, even though deep down he is a good person, but actually you know who i love not giving magical powers to in a magical world? seto kaiba babyyyyyyy he has to scrap and create and bring himself up in a world where people have inherent magic abilities and that's just so him isn't it? i think it's possible he's a non-bender from another nation (i'm thinking earth kingdom? put your own thoughts in the replies) much like the mechanist from the northern air temple he was pulled and adopted by gozaburo for his technological mind and to create war machines, giving a position but no power, but seto kaiba is anti-war so he bounces the fuck out of there i guess that makes him not a villain and just like part of the gaang? maybe? idk i don't actually have like A Plot for this

Ty Laru headcannons

i know what you're thinking: this thing came out from the Chibi shorts, and Haru and Ty Lee don't even meet in ATLA!

But but.....

Why not?

These are all my headcannons that support a certain theory i'll talk later about......

They could have met the first time at Zuko's coronation, but probably they wouldn't have even talked. But then Ty Lee became a member of the Kyoshi Warriors, and this gives her the possibility to travel to the Earth Kingdom

Maybe it's a festival in Kyoshi island: a good reason to leave the Fire Nation with her comrades and go to the Earth Kingdom.

During this festival she can meet Haru: he is a friend of the Avatar, Zuko knows him. I don't believe it's love at first sight, but they meet again later, in a mission of the Kyoshi Warriors around Haru's village.

They have the chance of work togheter, and Ty Lee finds this guy pretty great. Haru is brave and kind, the same things that Ty Lee possibly liked about Sokka (??)

In the moment they become a couple they have a few problems with Haru's father, who doesn't exatly like Firenation people. They have a bad time there, but thanks to Mai, who supported Ty Lee and helped her with the old man, they can get together with Haru's father approval.

Haru would move in Caldera because of Ty Lee's job as part of Zuko's guards, but the Firelord and the Earth King give him the role of contact between their two countries, so often he travels in the Earth Kingdom too.

They has two child. The first one has Izumi's age, and they'll be best frineds as Mai and Ty Lee are. The second one was born years later, when both of her parents are kinda old. It's Pema.

I bet you heard the theories already, they are not mine, credit to whoever invented them (you're great).

There is the most famous theory about Ty Lee, that she is the descendant of some airbenders. And then someone said that Pema may be Ty Lee's daughter bc they kinda look alike. And it isn't weird that all of Pema and Tenzin's sons/daughter (don't know about Rohan but let's say he is) are airbenders? It's a great thing, ofc, but even a couple as Aang and Katara, both benders, has a son who is a non-bender. And Pema, a non bender, and Tenzin has three/four children who can bend? Maybe.... because of Ty Lee legacy. It's normal that children of non bender people can be benders (as Katara). Maybe Ty Lee's airbenders ancestors bending went throught the family till Pema's children? This could mean nothing, Pema could be daughter of some other airbender descendant, but that's how i like to see that:)

KNB Characters in ATLA

Okay pretend this is like, when the 100-year war is about to start, so the Air Nomads are still around.

Kuroko: Non-bender from the Southern Water Tribe. He's really determined about stopping the Fire Nation and learns how to use long range weapons that are easy to carry. I really want to say Boomerang.

Kagami: FIRE-BENDER there is literally no other option. He's actually the son of an Fire Nation soldier and Earth Kingdom woman and was supposed to be from the colonies but his parents died, and he got adopted by Alex, who's an Air Nomad.

Kise: Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe. He's not a prince but he's definitely nobility. He's mastered pretty much every form of sub-bending for waterbending; except the plant manipulation and blood-bending.

Midorima: Earthbender, like, what else? He's the son of an Earth Kingdom nobleman who's ruling a Fire Nation colony, therefore he's sort of friends with Fire Nation royalty.

Aomine: Waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe. His mom is chief and he's a bit of spoilt brat. He's the best bender they have and he's itching for adventure outside of their home to really test out his waterbending skills. He joins Kuroko when Kuroko heads out to check wtf is going on with the Fire Nation recently.

Momoi: Non-bender scholar, trained in hand-to-hand. Though she isn't a bender, she observed the waterbender healers and figured out how to do chi-blocking. She joins Aomine and Kuroko when they head out to ensure they don't do anything extremely stupid and die at sea.

Murasakibara: Airbender who sticks to the the Air Temple he was born in. Hella chill, very mellow, he's an expert in pulling pranks whenever he's bored and very good at baking pies.

Akashi: Prince of the Fire Nation, Firebender. He's mastered lightning-bending and is extremely obedient to his dad. He used to be friends with kids from the other nation(*ahem* GoM) when he was around 10 but his dad cut off all connection because he was, ya know, planning on starting the 100-year war.

Haizaki: Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe. He's not a noble and is highly competitive with Kise, whom he can never defeat. Their training was very similar and they're both some of the best benders but Haizaki is heavily focused on combat and never even attempts healing(which is why he can't reach Kise's level, Kise figured out newer techniques because of the healing thing).

Kiyoshi: THE AVATAR!!! No it's not just because his name sounds like 'Kyoshi'. He's from an Earth Kingdom town and knows he's the Avatar pretty early but he doesn't make a big deal about it. Then the Fire Nation starts decimating the Air Nomads and RIko urges him to start learning. Kiyoshi is honestly the only person who can be trusted with this amount of power and is closest in temperament to Aang. He's froma humble background and just wants to ensure everyone gets to live peacefully.

Riko: Non-bender who's a student, she learned about all sorts of bending styles out of curiosity and even trained with a sword on her own time with her dad. She's the one who plotted the training regimen for Kiyoshi's Avatar training.

Hyuuga: A Fire Nation, non-bender soldier who Kiyoshi and Riko run into on their travels to find a firebending teacher. Hyuuga is getting very suspicious about his new orders about conquering Earth Kingdom territories, but is initially reluctant to defy. But then he sees Kiyoshi and Riko, and the three get into some trouble and Hyuuga decides to join the two, having realized that the Fire Nation is getting ready for an all-out-war against the Air Nomads.

Himuro: He's the illegitimate child of a Northern Water Tribe noblewoman. She had met a Fire Nation soldier and the two had an affair. She had Himuro but abandoned him, and he was taken away by sailors to be raised in the Earth Kingdom. Himuro grew up on the streets and on pirate ships, with only a betrothal necklace from his mom to know of his heritage which was given by the soldier. He hates the water tribe for abandoning him, and is later taken in by Alex. So he sorta grows up with Alex and he later realizes Kagami's dad is actually also his dad, and that his dad was chased away from the NWT and began another life with Kagami's mom.

Nijimura: Earthbender who's from a downtrodden background. His dad works in crystal mines but is growing weaker. Nijimura had to take over his dad's work and while mining, he became an expert in bending crystals and other non-generic forms of earth.

Water Tribe: Jeonghan -he'd be either a non-bender focusing more on war strategy, or a water bender specialized in healing

Jun -probably a waterbender and warrior

Seungkwan -Could be both a non-bender or waterbender that specializes in healing. Either way he'd tag along on the adventure and no one knows how he's still alive (talked his way out of every mess)

Earth Kingdom: Seungcheol -an earthbender, probably well known in the underground tournaments

Jihoon -an earthbending master who prefers to keep to himself. But he's friends with Seungcheol so often gets dragged into things

Mingyu -an earthbender, probably self taught

Fire nation: Wonwoo -a firebender, very much zuko-coded, definitely a prince. travelling around for varying reasons

Soonyoung -a firebender, accompanying wonwoo on his journeys, encourages him to cause more chaos. 100% enabler

Chan -could be either a non-bender or firebender, also accompanies wonwoo. Constantly talking wonwoo out of soonyoung's plans

Seokmin -probably a non-bender, has a little teashop. might even have his little teashop in another nation while in disguise.

Air nomads: Joshua -an airbender, probably has a little shop too, or works in one of the temples. Doing his level best to live his peaceful little life. (he looks like he'd live a life that cabbage seller ngl)

Minghao -an airbender (he meditates, he literally jumps around doing tricks, the most aribender-like airbender around)

I don’t know if you have watched or heard of “Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)”, but if you have… Hear me out and recommend watching it if you haven’t seen it.

I’ve been thinking about Mortimer’s Handeemen characters as the Masters of elements of four nations. I think it would be really cool and an interesting idea of an AU of Mortimer and the others to bend their own elements in ATLA.

I think Mortimer would be a Firebender and bend lightning because knowing that Mortimer was mentioned as being a kind, loving, and father figure in the show, I think it would make sense for him using his fire to protect his friends and other good people instead of using it to destroy everything and harm others being fueled by rage, hatred and anger. And I feel like he would almost be like Iroh and both like drinking tea. I think they would get along pretty well.

For Nick Nack, I think waterbending would be fitting for him because he would use water to do watercolor paint, being the artist he is. And maybe he would be very skilled and talented as both fighter and healer. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Francis (Nick’s father and belong to @ericaportfolio) taught him Bloodblending to use it for evil and against others. It might be fitting for Francis to be both Waterbender and Bloodbender.

For Daisy, I think she would be a very strong and greatest Earthbender like Toph. And knowing how angry she’ll get and her “danger mode”, she would have the ability to bend lava, which also fits.

For Riley, I’m thinking either be an Airbender or Firebender. I’m not sure which would fit for her, but I think Airbender might work. And Rosco as a Flying Bison would make sense because he is a very large fluffy dog, and Flying Bisons are large and fluffy too. But what do you guys think?

Scout as a Firebender? Not surprised because she is a chaotic, little gremlin with her blue fire.
