I've caved. Here's my Avatar The Last Airbender uni au and modern/non bender au headcanons.

Here's what I think the main kids uni majors/minors would be:

Aang: wildlife conservation with a minor in political sciences

Katara: medicine, education minor

Sokka: engineering, polisci minor

Toph: geology with a martial arts minor (changed my mind, education minor)

Zuko: forced to do law & politics by his family but switches to history/anthropology, keeping politics as a minor

Azula: law w a psychology minor

Mai: forced to do politics by family but wants to do art, history minor

Ty Lee: training in acrobatics and performance at a performing arts school and works at the circus

Suki: human relations and activism, martial arts minor

Yue: Dance major (same school as Ty Lee, polisci minor

Living situations:

Katara and Sokka flat together and eventually Aang becomes a permanent resident

Toph lives right across from them, she likes her own space and independence but she'd never want to be too far from her friends

Zuko lives with Iroh above his teashop and works there part time

Suki has a sharehouse with the kyoshi warriors (her hockey team)

Ty Lee and Yue get assigned room-mates first year and became pretty quick friends, they continue to live together afterwards

Azula has her own apartment (of course). So does Mai, but she spends so much time at Azulas she basically lives there. Neither of them would admit it but they much prefer it to having whole houses to themselves.

Sokka and Katara r Inuit and from Alaska

Azula, Zuko and Mai are all Japanese American

Ty Lee is Japanese and Mongolian

Toph is Chinese and Singaporean (born in Singapore)

Aang is Bhutanese (so is Gyatso), but he grew up in Singapore. Him and Toph were childhood friends

Yue is Inuit and Sámi and her family lives in north-east Canada

Suki is mixed Chinese, Filipino and French-Canadian and live in an island off of Quebec

Have not decided where the uni would be but probably BSSU (Ba Sing Se uni) cause I know a lot of ppl use that as the uni name

I don't know a ton about US and Canadian geography so if y'all have ideas for what states or provinces the characters would hail from (especially what state/city Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee grew up in) I would def appreciate the suggestions

Aang has a Tibetan Mastiff called Appa and Sokka has a Siamese cat called Momo (he found him behind a dumpster looking for food scraps and Sokka knew he'd found a kindred spirit,,, much to Kataras initial dismay)

Aang grew up in a sort of hippie/alternative living foster home that taughtbuddist beliefs, he never knew his real parents but he was okay with that.

I'm a fan of bigcorp ceo Ozai but also political tyrant Ozai works as well so I'm srsly torn on that. Politician Ozai would either have to be a nation ruler or American ambassador because I like to think Zuko and Azula moved around a lot as kids so he couldn't have a job that keeps him in ine place. That's why I like the idea of ceo Ozai. He would still have a lot of political power and it would still mean moving around a lot plus him being super corrupt and exploiting his workers is fun for angst.

Oh and!! Zuko and Azula lived in Singapore for part of highschool and their family visited a lot for holidays. Since Tophs parents and Ozai worked together, Zuko and Azula were around at The Beifongs a lot and entertained themselves by making fun of Toph for hanging out with a "poor tree hugging commoner" like Aang

Azula!

Azula spend years in the asylum getting help properly and had an agreement with Zuko to be removed from the line of succession once he has acquired an heir in exchange for her freedom. This was all done in secrecy, no one but the two knows of this.

Azula now lives in Republic City. She struggled getting permanent jobs at first due to not having any prior knowledge of labor work but gets hired at the end, unfortunately it was not enough pay to make ends meet and gets roped into this mercenary group, the Kemurikage, and they makes use of her ‘skills’ there.

Azula seldom bends in her ‘job’ as her fire is wayyy too distinguishable. She only does so incase of emergencies. It also burns her uniform as well (they cut it from her pay every-time she needs a new replacement, which Azula thinks is ridiculously stupid).

Azula is mad, specifically at Sokka at the Mochi incident (No way she’s gonna get mad at Izumi. Never). She told him that he needs to talk to his Daughter, Sokka agreed but jokingly replied, ‘She’s techinically our daughter’. This makes Azula feel things she can’t fully describe and doesn’t know if its good or bad.. so she decides to talk to Izumi personally.

Izumi!

She’s taking her role very seriously as the future crown princess and Fire Lord. All the adults are worried about it.

Izumi doesn’t like it when people treat her as if she’s stupid and belittles her. She’s also very sensitive about her personal space and doesn’t like how people don’t take her study schedules very seriously .

Izumi and her Grandmother, Ursa, are very close! Izumi loves spending time with her whenever shes not with her Dad or studying. Ursa lets her do whatever she wants and (she secretly liked being coddled by her) but Izumi cant understand why her Grandmother looks at her in this sad-ish expression.

Izumi loves the Bluespirit! There’s a show about him and she can’t not watch it! (Zuko was very proud of himself whenever he listens to his daughter tell him about the Bluespirit)

Izumi likes sweets in general. In the Palace she gets them all the time, especially whenever she’s with Ursa; they both eat mochi together. She apologized to Azula about eating the mochi, but Azula tells her it’s ok and wasnt mad at all at her and lets Izumi eat off her stash whenever and however she wants it .

“Shut up. Like you didn’t miss me.”

Sokka smiled, leaned in to press his forehead against Zuko’s. Three months away at college suddenly felt like an eternity as they stood in the dark street, too eager to see each other to even get inside.

“It wasn’t that long,” Sokka said, and his heart still skipped a beat when Zuko’s eyes narrowed in reply.

“Liar.”

It was the longest they’d been apart since they’d gotten together.

Sokka smiled again, linked his fingers behind Zuko’s back. “Yeah.”

Divine’s phone buzzed on his desk, and he was quick to rise from his seat, shoving it into his pocket and grabbing his key. His roommate would likely be cooking, so he had to be quick, rushing downstairs to open the apartment complex’s door.

As soon as it opened, Jack stepped inside, shivering under her large coat. She had stuffed long blonde hair into her – well, his – hoodie, a facemask and sunglasses covering the rest of her distinguishable features. She wouldn’t take them off until she was safe in Divine’s room, away from any potential gawking eyes.

His hand took hers as he led her back upstairs without another word – her voice would give her away, after all. In a way, he was relieved his bedroom was on the opposite side of their flat to Yusei’s. If he had ever heard the two of them, their voices whispering late into the night or Jack’s soft moans, he had never said anything.

His key clicked in the door, and she made a beeline for his room, standing by his door as she slowly removed her glasses and mask, blinking her long lashes at him with a small smile.

And, as soon as his door was closed behind them, his arms wrapped tight around her waist, hers around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss, humming against his lips.

“Good day?” He mumbled as they pulled apart, Jack finally removing the layers of secrecy.

“Yeah,” She turned away for a moment, rummaging in her bag to find her pyjamas of choice – a black vest and a matching pair of shorts. “Did a shoot. Was… kinda fun, actually?” She sat on the edge of his bed, squeezing the fabric in her hands. “How about you? Busy with class?”

He nodded, turning away for a moment to save his document, closing the laptop over – he had been working for far too long, and he would much rather spend his time with her. In many ways, Divine still wasn’t sure how she had any interest in him. One decision in the summer, to take part in a silly tournament, had made him a winner in a far more important way.

“Mostly just been studying, yeah. Boring as hell, honestly. I’m glad you came by.”

He turned back round, smiling as he realised that she had already gotten changed, shifting further onto the bed until she was sprawled out, top riding up and exposing her midriff as she stretched out. “Yeah?”

He couldn’t help but follow her, settling beside her, a gentle tug of her hip pulling her onto her side, until she settled against him, a leg lazily wrapping around one of his. “Yeah.” A soft kiss pressed to her forehead, her fringe askew from the way she had flopped backwards a few moments prior.

The evenings usually worked like this. Divine couldn’t even remember the last time he slept alone in his bed, bar the occasional nap on her busier days. The thought of them moving in together crossed his mind a few times, though that would mean telling Yusei about who his girlfriend was.

“Do I get to see the behind the scenes of your photoshoot?” He mumbled after a moment of silence, tracing hearts along her spine, smirking as she gasped, wriggling closer to press herself against him.

“Course. You always do, don’t you?” It was true; Divine imagined her fanbase would kill him for a chance to see what she willingly showed him. “I took a few just for you, I’ll show you them later.” She winked, and his cheeks flushed under the inference.

She sat up with a smirk of her own, shifting until she was settled on his lap, thighs either side of his hips, her nails scratching patterns into the fabric of his loungewear.

“Got anything else to show me?”

OOOOOOOHHHH I love this; I have a few fics that could be qualified as "CLOSE" to mutations and superpowers, but not 100%. I have a lot more "changelings" than anything else. I've compiled together some of the ones on my MFL list as well, but I can't guarantee that they're mutants in them since I haven't read them.

If anyone has any fics that they can suggest, please do! I'm kind of into MCU fics right now so if I can have Sherlock-style in there too, that would be awesome! PLEASE let us know if you have mutant or Superhero Johnlock fics!!!

maybe he realized he was the avatar later in life. he was raised as an earthbender and had a different life ahead of him, but he discovered his abilities, and now he struggles hard to fill the shoes of the avatar who came before him

fire came to him easily, but air was the most difficult. hard to let go of all your earthly attachments when carrying your burden is all you know

elias is an airbender

he was chosen to train the next avatar, but was a bad influence on him. he pushed jon towards becoming a weapon, perfect for the broken system to use against its enemies. maybe jon learned what he was up to and disagreed with his teacher's ideals. maybe he ran away because of it

martin is a waterbender

he got his element from his father, who, of course, disappeared. his mother never taught it to him the right way because it reminded her too much of him. she forced him to waterbend the way she learned to earthbend, before she wasn't strong enough to teach him anything anymore. he didn't understand how he managed to fool his way into teaching the avatar himself waterbending, but he certainly isn't complaining about the benefits of his new situation. (other than the said new avatar being a bit of a dick)

tim is a firebender

he never channeled his fire from rage, always got it from his love for his friends. until he lost danny. he hides it well, but sometimes the rage inside him creates a firestorm on the outside too

sasha isn't a bender

she didn't need to be born a bender though to have talent. she's very intelligent and tends to be the planner for any missions this hypothetical "team avatar" goes on. people often take her for granted though, or treat her poorly because she's not a bender, even if she can typically keep up with the benders just the same

melanie is a firebender

she always had a burning fire within her, rage and passion mixing into one. but she glowed bright enough to burn anyone who stepped too close, metaphorically. and sometimes literally.

basira is an earthbender

she was always sturdy when daisy needed a shoulder to lean on. unshaking in her loyalty towards her. she had the strength to push through her problems. she didn't always know when was the right time to soften up

daisy is an airbender

air is the element of freedom, and daisy had way too much of it. the freedom to use her powers against others, get them hurt or killed, if it was in the law's name. i think she used the "pushing the air out of a person's lungs" trick way too much. (and during her confrontation with jon)

georgie used to be an earthbender

used to be. of course, when she was in uni, her school was attacked by a bloodbender. many students went missing during the incident, forced to drop to their knees, and haven't been seen since. georgie though she might've be lucky, having gotten away, with her chi being permanently blocked as the only consequence

Besides YOI, what are the other things you enjoy? I've seen you mentioned atla before, do you like atla too? I grew up watching atla and since last year I've been wanting to cosplay toph or ty lee but hasn't get the chance to do it. First, cosplay is an expensive hobby. Second, I have so many cosplay plans waiting to be executed. Third, I'm trying to do less cosplay at least until I graduate from uni.

Hmmm, I wonder if I still keep my short black wig or not... it seems easy to cosplay yuuri... what if.. 👀

My favorites? Hmm... I don't know if you have a preference for length, story type, anything, so I'll just share. I'm warning you I read mostly AUs lol, but I'll look up good canon compliant fics if you'd like.

I love ATLA, but I don't engage much in the fandom. No particular reason for that. I'll happily chat about it! Other than that, MDZS, TGCF, Brandon Sanderson's books in the Cosmere, Fruits Basket, Dragon Age, Persona... I love talking to my friend about Vampire Chronicles, she got me to read the books, but I didn't watch the old Interview with the Vampire movies or the new show and I don't think I will.

I'm currently watching Apothecary Diaries as well. No idea of I'll dive into fandom, but I'm enjoying the show a lot. And the novels, since I started reading them.

Only thing that comes close to YOI for me in terms of how much I like it is probably Natsume Yuujinchou. Completely different vibe, though.

What do you like? I'm open to recommendations too.

The recs:

One of my absolute favorites, an ongoing fic by my friend @stammiviktor, a call to motion. Not canon compliant, but they both still skate. Dealing with trauma from an abusive coach, healing, finding your power. And it's a beautiful relationship between Viktuuri, but I always feel that she does them justice. Whenever I recommend a friend's fic I feel like there would be the assumption that I'm biased, but she's been one of my favorite authors since before I ever spoke to her, read anything by her, she's incredible. (And she also has an ATLA AU.)

and all this devotion folded into me by my friend @crossroadswrite - I love this story so much I can't begin to tell you. Yuuri is a deity, Vitya adores him, they can't be stopped. This story is one of my favorites, but also, it doesn't show how absolutely hilarious the author is. Feel free to read anything else by her, pretty much anything will be clever and funny and beautiful.

Unsinkable, a Titanic AU. Don't be scared to read it, but if you want spoilers let me know. This story is absolutely stunning, and the podfic by the author is so good. Apparently they're an audiobook narrator? Anyway, everything about the story itself is done beautifully.

A silver splendor, a flame. Fantasy AU with elves and magic and temporary major character death that made me cry before making me smile enough to make my cheeks hurt. I want to commission a podfic of this one tbh. And I do also enjoy most fics by this author.

This one is actually canon compliant, Life, Love and Language. It's about learning each other's languages and communication. It's really sweet.

And this one is hilarious, Night is Young and the Music's High. This author is really funny, and it's not long at all.

Notes for my Sokkla Celebrity AU (Sokka's side)

Here are mores notes for my Sokkla fic, an ATLA Celebrity AU. The story is Azula-centric but I still made notes about Sokka (with mention of others) to flesh out everything Warning: Canon Characters' Deaths still occur

The notes of Azula's side

Without further ado, ATLA Celebrity AU (Sokka-centric)

Hokada & Kya are local musicians but it's like a side hustle for fun Sokka & Katara grow up with music Kya dies from cancer when Sokka is 13 Sokka gets interested in producing really young but gets side-track when Katara gets discovered and becomes the next big thing (think Taylor Swift) at 15 so Sokka starts a rapper career the same year (17) They both sign with Avatar Industries and that's how they meet Aang (since the beginning, Aang has had a crush on Katara which both Water Tribe siblings do not see) That year, Sokka met Yue, an opera singer incredibly famous in her field, and it was love at first sight 3 months later Yue dies in an accident in which he has survivor guilt as he was supposed to be with her (they had wanted to announce they were dating to the world) 6 months later, he meets Suki, a freshly made Olympic winner, at an event and while she shows interest, Sokka is reluctant They start dating and the media gets the news very quickly Sokka doesn't talk to Suki about Yue (Somewhere in between, Toph and Zuko join Avatar Industries) (Toph used to be a classical Opera singer but she quits for heavy metal) By the time Sokka is 20, he's not very happy about his life/career Suki encourages him to go to university, which he does: double major in sound design and engineering, pausing his musical career Become closer to Zuko, they related over anxiety, survivor guilt, etc Suki and him are good, but something feels amiss; so the whole cheating with Azula doesn't help, even if Suki knows it's false Around a year later (21), they break up over mostly distance, Suki moves to follow her trainer Sokka enters his fuckboy period that last a good year, maybe 2 While at uni, Sokka rediscovers his love for producing and starts working with the Gaang+Zuko with their music He starts to win prices as a producer At 24, Zuko asks him to help Azula with her next album

Thy Creature Modern/Zombie AU Part 1

This started as a joke but after talking with @fleurrice on the server... this is for real and its loooooong so like strap in. Spoilers for Thy Creature btw even tho this is an AU. BTW I WENT PAST THE WORD COUNT OOOOPS... I'll add a part two later...

Please this all came out because I wanted to see Victor as a nervous college student

Noah in the same major but fleurrice added on "he's the professor" and that's canon to me now.

He's beefing with some 19 yo (unofficial) TA 😒 (Justine). He's also beefing with Victor which I will explain later on. His students like him well enough though even if he's kind of strict. The type of asshole to jump a pop quiz because someone annoyed him a little. He has a good sense of humor and tries to be understanding because he's also been through some stuff.

Justine I think would major in hospitality. Instead of being Victor's maid I think she would just be a childhood friend who's mother was employed by his family.

Hanna would be an art professor of sorts. She has crazy social anxiety but when teaching she's passionate and encourages her students. A lot of students look up to her.

Ben would probably teach something with agriculture. He's a man of few words though... ever since his wife took the kids. Old shame.

Chris would be the alcoholic building manager. He's pretty grumpy. something abt the war .

Alex would be a social worker that had prior experience in hunting. She's very grandmacore and her attitude relaxes a lot of people. She's a good leader to them.

OKAY SO this is a really hyperspecific American thing but like how military recruiters bait highschoolers into joining on promise for free college tuition. Leon would be the sucker that believes in it. But they're German so I guess an alternative would be he's in college for now as a backup plan but plans on entering the military later on. He's kind of a jock but he's nice and popular. This is so oddly specific but I feel like he'd major in either buisness or engineering. Maybe even medicine bc I feel like he'd wanna help people.

This would start off similar to the plot of Thy Creature where Victor starts his research because his mother dies and he wants to know the meaning of life. What better way than to actually use her dead body!

Yeah starting off insane here. He uses his mother's corpse to make Siren. Don't ask why she has tentacles there's octopus DNA in there now...

Because she's the first specimen she's also the most unstable/crazy one. That's also why she's so powerful.

Anyways Victor is freaked out and locks her in his basement. But apparently not freaked out enough because he keeps experimenting.

Originally I was going to have Atlas/Loss and Raven/Not-Guilty at the very end but I think they'd be better here. Atlas is mixed with some horned creature's DNA and Raven is of course mixed with a raven's DNA. Raven is temperamental and thrashes in her bonds while Atlas is docile and doesn't really do much. Victor doesn't care he hates them both, basement time. Raven gives him a little scratch on the way out though...

Now Victor experiments on twins, Nameless and Creature. A byproduct of the experiment is that a zombies hair will bleach white. But sometimes it will stay the original color. Nameless is incredibly unstable, constantly attempting to turn into his more monstrous form. Creature however besides the white hair is perfectly stable. You almost wouldn't be able to tell something is wrong with it.

It runs away though lolllll... lolllll. Victor locks up nameless in his basement with the others. Now that he knows he can make a stable reanimated corpse he just keeps on chugging.

Creature kind of becomes a campus myth like the trash muncher. Mostly non-malevolent though.

Now Noah has caught on to Victor by now. He catches him trying to take something from the morgue but his higherups aren't too hard pressed about it because Noah doesn't have sufficient proof + Victor cleans up really well. Also Noah unironically beefs with a 19 yo for fun so not the most credible. But Noah knows.

Victor half contemplates just hitting Noah with a shovel and doing what he has to but that's hardddddd.

Fortunately for Victor! William Frankenstein found dead in a ditch.

Yeah so while the Creature was out n about it accidentally infected William bc it didn't know it can do that.

Victor immediately takes William's body to mess around. Noah hears about his loss and also about how his mom died and he's like oh no wonder he's weird around corpses. And kind of drops the matter because maybe he's just grieving.

Oh he's grieving alright. G-making r-his i-next eving-specimen.

He uses William's body to make Erysichthon/EL. This specimen is mostly stable, able to switch between monstrous and human at will. However... he likes biting people on purpose and noms Victor on the arm.

Basement time. Basements all over the place.

Now I didn't know if I wanted her to be before or after EL, but maybe after. Victor wanted to experiment on a young child, see how manageable it'd be. Thus he uses a young girl to make 701/Loneliness. She is mostly stable, but she's really hyperactive, so like average kid shit. Unfortunately Victor is kind of unfamiliar with children so he throws her in the basement as well.

Noah when his student makes 7 atrocities against man in his basement:

Victor's health has been declining drastically as well from his lacerations. He'd been growing more delirious.

While Victor's sleeping on his fucking futon on the floor, he forgets to lock the door... and well ... the monster mash comes out.

Instesd of having Nepe Victor/Regret as a final boss, Victor himself is the final boss. But instead he's infected and a shell of his former shelf. The nepes don't attack him because he has a "vaccine" against them in the form of being infected.

Yeah this whole time he's been using parasitic bacteria for reanimation. It made the nerves jolt and he's like I can work with this.

Worked a bitttt too well. The only way to kill these zombies would be to burn them.

Ofc they start infecting everyone on campus. All entrances are blocked by Nepes zombies. More specifically it's this unidentifiable biomass coagulating around the doors.

🤣🤣🤣 Noah's boutta kill this motherfucker with his bare hands. As soon as the first zombie enters the room he doesn't hesitate to hit it with a chair. Bro is PISSED.

You just know his ass is saying "I KNEW IT" the entire time. He distributes sterile gloves/masks to the rest of the team later on to prevent any sort of pathogens from going inside their bloodstream. But eventually they're going to need something better to filter that shit out.

As soon as Hanna sees what's going on outside she locks the doors to her classroom aaaaaand goes catatonic . Her students have to look after her till the others come.

Hanna unfortunately has to see her students die because plot. Hanna always saw her students like family even if they cycled out fast. They'd be nice to her because they know she's trying her best and vice versa. So it just. Especially sucks for her with the knowledge that these students will never grow up to be accomplished adults like she knew they could be.

Noah meets Justine again and asks her if she can help with talking to Victor to see if there's a way to bring the zombie nepes back to normal.

In reality he just wants to know where Victor lives on campus so he can go beat the shit out of him really hard. Justine doesn't have to know that tho.

They find EL in a corner passed out. He looks like a normal enough boy and he could just be one of the professors children. Hanna and Justine especially want to help him.

Noah is a bit reluctant but he is just a kid.

However as we established EL is kind of a freak. He breathes down their necks and he doesn't start anything just yet. He wants to see how many people are still remaining so he holds off on biting.

Creature comes in purely on accident. It manages to bite through the biomass in the front door and go inside.

Once the gang determine it won't really bite them + it's useful for plowing through the other nepes, they take it in as well.

The university seems to be split between 6 nepes (like the tower and it's 7 floors). Each Nepe has it's own mark. Like you can tell someone got mutated by Siren via the tentacles coming out of them. However Atlas doesn't really do much so his neck of the woods is a peaceful place.

Unfortunately EL realizes they're the only ones left and attacks before he gets attacked. He bites Ben and tries attacking Hanna before Alex shoots him.

They think Creature infected him... which technically it didddd but on accident and it did that to William not Erysichthon. But they still need it for killing the Nepe bosses.

701 bites people to make friends 😭. Her zombies are a bit like. Preserved. Like dolls. They can't move much because their joints are stiff and they've become colorless. Noah's a bit reluctant to hit a child but considering he's seen enough corpses already he's emotionally bracing himself. Chris however has no hesitation. Molotov her ass ❤

Yeah Chris has been making molotovs and shit with his booze. If it works it works.

Ben has started to go a bit insane from the infection. They muzzle and tie his hands up so he can't wound anyone. He can still speak albeit in broken words. They don't want to kill him because of the chance of a cure + he's not hurting anyone so if it's not needed they won't kill him.

Leon, Noah, Alex, Chris, and Creature have been the ones primarily fighting. Leon and Noah are incredibly jacked and let's just say... Noah is motivated by pure spite. Alex and Chris have survival experience so they know what to do in certain situations. And Creature is creature. It takes over later on for fighting while the others try to live the best they can. Hanna and Justine help with injuries.

Hanna also knows Victor had been up to something, on a particularly bad day she said she saw him in the halls carrying corpses and asked what the hell was going on. He admitted his plan to her and while it sounded insane, she thought perhaps... he could get her baby back. He promised to do so if she kept quiet and she did. She later pushed this memory to the back of her mind so she only remembered recently. That's why she went catatonic.

Justine is really concerned for Victor because she knows he hasn't been well. He hasn't et her take care of him either. Wouldn't even let Clerval or Elizabeth visit. So the fact this happened? Oh he's deaddddd.

The gang are focused on finding a safe way out but also to exterminate all the zombies so they won't escape either for the greater good. Noah himself is also trying to research the disease to reverse it because as luck would so happen, he has a hefty amount of medical knowledge. He's been serving as their medic as well.

Raven is terrifying to fight because she and those she infected, have wings and talons (which have grown over time). They fly down to try to slash at the group. Creature uses itself as a meatshield to protect them before finally beating the shit out of Raven and charring her. Bird down.

ELs back-! As Erysichthon. There's green mucus from the corners of his mouth. The zombies on his floor are the more traditional type, except their flesh is slowly breaking down into slime because of his saliva. (He bit them harder than he did Ben and Victor). Again Creature has to fight him and burn him down.

Atlas doesn't do much, he doesn't resist getting killed. His area is not a zone, more so a corner he's been pushed to. They keep him in that area as a way to ward off the other Nepe zombies because his presence seems to work on them like a relaxant. Which in turn makes it easier to kill them. They only kill him when his presence starts agitating Ben and making them all feel a bit sleepy.

Siren is terrifying to fight. Her zombies have grown tentacles. And once she latches on ohhhhhhhh. She is also the most powerful. Her flesh covers the exit. She releases a vapor that acts as a hallucinogen, making everyone see happy visions and want to never leave. Of course that won't do. Fry her ass 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Nameless' area rumbles with his growling. He can't control himself from mutating like every other day but he's trying to hold on to what little humanity he has. But he's also the most brutal. His mutant form literally eating out people's organs and leaving them half behind.

As soon as he sees Creature though, he feels more at peace. More in control of himself, as if it was his other half. But he still wants it to kill him.

He's almost able to control himself for good, but he gets triggered into his mutant form again, and because he can't stabilize himself and is a threat to everyone else, he gets killed. Sadge.

Now that all the major Nepe contaminants are gone, they can finally go to Victor and ask him what the fuck is wrong with him.

Victor's eyes have gone completely black and yellow (another sign of the infected). He's crazed with power but breaking down at the same time. He's begging them to save him but he's beyond saving. The skin that ELbit has gone gelatinous and raven's scratch marks have overgrown with feathers. Tentacle marks on his legs all that jazz.

Der Verlag der Uni Oxford wählt "brain rot" (auf deutsch etwa Hirnfäule) zum Oxford-Wort des Jahres. Das soll den Zustand nach übermäßigem Konsum banaler Inhalte im Netz beschreiben. Das passt ja.

Erster Dezember, es ist kalt geworden. Der erste Tag im Dezember soll doch auch neuerdings Winteranfang sein, das würde ja passen. Früher war das der 21. Dezember. Der "meteorologische" Winteranfang wurde, so sagt wikipedia, von den Meteorologen eingeführt, damit sie bei Jahresvergleichen präzisere Datenvergleiche anstellen können. Der erste Tag des Monats, in dem die Wintersonnenwende stattfindet. Winter ist bei mir dann, wenn Schnee liegt, oder es kalt ist. Ich bleibe bei der Wintersonnenwende, in diesem Jahr also am 21. Dezember, irgendwann vormittags. Ich erhalte Glückwünsche zum Sieg des FCSP. Sinnvoll wäre es doch, dies vor dem Spiel zu tun. Jetzt ist das Glück doch schon da. Der Glückwunsch ist eher eine Gratulation, ein mit- Freuen über das günstige Schicksal. Ein Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag wäre dann etwa eine Anerkennung, dass man das letzte Jahr unfallfrei überstanden hat. - Das lateinische gratulatio ist auch eher offen bekundete Freude, Freudentag, lauter Jubel und Dankesfest; und gratulor (Deponens) freudig danken, … Glück wäre fortuna, das ist aber auch eine Schicksalsgöttin. Die Germanen hatten übrigens gar kein Wort für Glück, aber das nur am Rande

Wochennotizen eines wunderlichen alten Mannes Die längste Nacht des Jahres steht bevor.

facebook nervt: Die Beiträge, die angezeigt werden, sind Werbung, allgemeine Fußball- Meldungen, merkwürdige Filmchen ("Reels"), und erst an achter Stelle ein Beitrag einer Person, die ich zuvor angeklickt habe. Ich denke, diese Algorithmen sind auf Nutzungsmaximierung geeicht. Welches Bild haben die Programmierer von mir? Meinen Geschmack trifft's nicht.

Es gibt etwas anzuzeigen, nämlich das neue Buch von Raoul Schrott: Atlas der Sternenhimmel. Schrott, ein Universalgelehrter im alten Sinne (hat etwa das Gilgamesch- Epos und Homer neu übersetzt).Er untersucht den Sternenhimmel und das, was verschiedene Kulturen in der Welt am nächtlichen Firmament sehen. In der letzten Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung erläutert er: "Ja, aber es war zunächst nur darauf ausgelegt, die Sternbilder verschiedener Kulturen zu dokumentieren. Wobei bald klar wurde, dass es nicht dabei bleiben kann: Denn zum einen stehen die Sternbilder nicht allein, sondern sind eingebettet in Sagen. Die aber sind mehr als bloße unterhaltende Märchen, sondern vermitteln das Ethos einer Kultur – und dann gehören da auch die Schöpfungsmythen dazu, weil sie erklären, wie der Himmel und die Gestirnedarin entstanden sind." La pensée de Ayn Rand resurgit depuis le début des années 2010. Entre 2012 et 2020, son livre Atlas Shrugged (La grève) arrive en deuxième position des plus grosses ventes aux Etats-Unis après la Bible, trente ans après sa mort.

L’ensemble des secrétaires d’état américains, Trump lui même et les libertariens argentins, allemands, anglais, italiens se réclament de Rand donc il faut s’attendre à une forte poussée vers des gouvernements minimaux et la destruction des normes sociales, environnementales et sanitaires. Il faut donc lutter contre cette idéologie car en théorie elle ne devrait pas être séduisante pour la masse des électeurs. Cette théorie rencontre du succès auprès des plus jeunes déçus par les choix des autres qui ne veulent plus compter que sur eux mêmes et ne pas subir les choix des autres.

Ayn Rand proposait un modèle de société au bénéfice d’une poignée d’individus considérés comme exceptionnels. Pourquoi est-ce un phénomène de masse?

Ayn Rand est née au début du XXème siècle, dans une famille de petite bourgeoisie russe. Elle avait 9 ans lors de la révolution bolchévique. La famille a perdu beaucoup de son confort. Elle a souffert d’un sentiment de déclassement. Les soviétiques ayant ouverts les universités aux femmes, elle a eu accès à une éducation supérieure, payée par l’Etat. Dans les années 1920, elle a émigré aux Etats-Unis.

Elle propose l’idée que certains humains sont exceptionnels et doués et peuvent vraiment améliorer le monde et ceux-ci n doivent pas être embarassés par les conséquences de leurs actes. Par exemple, c’est acceptable que des espèces animales ou des humains meurent pour l’amélioration de la civilisation composée d’une poignée d’humains exceptionnels. Le poursuite égoïste du plaisir personnel est la valeur la plus importante. Les valeurs traditionnelles véhiculées par les églises, comme l’altruisme, le don de soi, le partage et la solidarité permettent à la masse déméritante de s’accaparer les fruits de travail des humains exceptionnels. Les Etats ont succédés aux églises pour perpétuer ce qui est considéré comme du vol. Ayn Rand suggère que seules la police et l’armée doivent être assurés par l’Etat. L’Etat ne doit pas se mêler de la vie de la société.

Ayn Rand est une reformulation de la pensée de Nietsche. Dans Beyond Good and Evil (Par delà le bien et le mal), il y a l’idée d’un Übermensch (surhomme) qui tue, viole mais à la fin est le plus fort qui se reproduit et améliore l’espèce. Ayn Rand transfère cette idée sur le plan économique, ce qui rend ses idées plus acceptables. N’est-ce pas de l’hypocrisie puisque la guerre économique, en ôtant les moyens de l’existence, elle ôte les moyens de l’existence. “You take my life / When you do take the means whereby I live.” (vous prenez ma vie / Quand vous me prenez les moyens de vivre.) Pourquoi tant de monde adhère aujourd’hui à cette idéologie?

Premièrement, Ayn Rand est extrêmement populaire chez les patrons d’entreprises technologiques. Mark Cuban a baptisé un des ses yacht Fountainhead d’après le roman d’Ayn Rand. Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckenberg, Peter Thiel et Elon Musk sont des milliardaires qui adhèrent à ces idées. Ils considèrent qu’ils sont ces êtres exceptionnels. Ils veulent être comme Prométhée qui a donné le feu aux hommes sans se soucier des conséquences. Ils ne veulent pas qu’on leur tienne rigueur de leurs défauts, sans tenir compte des valeurs morales. Les géants technologiques d’aujourd’hui se revendiquent de Rand pour s’affranchir des règles et plaire à leur égo mais sont ultra interventionnistes dans la vie des individus ce qui contredit même la vision de Rand. Par exemple, Elon Musk veut coloniser Mars ou mettre des implants dans le cerveau des gens et donc il ne doit pas partager son argent ou respecter les lois. Ces milliardaires possèdent environ deux tiers des réseaux sociaux où ils font la promotion de ces idées.

Deuxièmement, poursuivre son bonheur sans se soucier des conséquences a un effet déculpabilisant pour les gens qui consomment à outrance. Depuis le début des années 2000, la prise de conscience écologique et sociale crée une anxiété et une culpabilité. Même les gens les plus modestes peuvent adhérer aux idées d’Ayn Rand pour se défaire de cette culpabilité. Tant pis pour les plus pauvres qui travaillent dans de mauvaises conditions, tant pis pour la dégradation de l’environnement.

Troisièmement, la plupart des gens ont un désespoir face aux problèmes du monde: guerres, environnement, esclavage, … Ils attendent un sauveur extraordinaire qui résoudrait tous les problèmes, un messie. Il y a moins de sentiment religieux mais le besoin est toujours là. Ils sont prêts à sacrifier leur liberté et une partie de leurs moyens de subsistance pour permettre aux êtres exceptionnels de trouver des solutions. Par exemple, Open Ai propose que l’intelligence artificielle gère l’agriculture. Selon eux, il faudrait les laisser faire et ne pas les entraver avec des lois.

Quatrièmement, depuis la seconde guerre mondiale, la sociale démocratie représentative occidentale est vue comme l’absolu de la démocratie comme le démontre Francis Fukuyama dans The End of History. Or ce régime est le plus démocratique actuellement mais ce n’est pas un absolu, loin de là. C’est le peuple qui élit dans un choix d’élites qui proposent toutes à peu près la même chose. Ce n’est qu’une étape sur le chemin de la démocratie. Ces élites sont intervenues dans tous les domaines de la vie et ont servi des intérêts particuliers plutôt que l’intérêt général, par exemple, en faisant la guerre pour des sociétés pétrolières, en ne condamnant pas des entreprises pharmaceutiques qui ont empoisonné des gens ou en utilisant l’argent des contribuables pour sauver les profits des actionnaires des banques. En se comportant comme ça, l’Etat ne remplit pas ses obligations. Si l’Etat se comporte aussi mal, il faudrait arrêter d’avoir un Etat. Cela conforte les gens qu’Ayn Rand a raison. L’administration Obama n’a pas renversé ce que Bush avait instauré: la guerre en Irak, le maintien de Guantanamo, le port d’armes de guerre par des civils, lois sur la surveillance, etc. Hollande n’a pas renversé les lois de Sarkozy: les peines plancher, la disparition de la police de proximité, les lois sur l’immigration, etc.. Cela donne l’idée que l’Etat est une impasse. C’est pareil quoi qu’on vote! L’Etat ne semble pas être la solution mais le problème.

Et pourtant, l’Etat est bien la solution. L’intérêt commun a crée les états parce qu’il fallait mettre les moyens en commun pour résoudre les problèmes. Par exemple, canaliser une rivière, construire une muraille, avoir un grenier, avoir des écoles, etc. Quatre mille ans avant la religion, les peuples ont crée des Etats capables de résoudre des problèmes qui dépassent les capacités des individus. Quand l’Etat se met au service d’intérêts particuliers, il trahit son lieu d’être. L’Etat Providence est une trahison. Ayn Rand confond l’intérêt général qui permet à la communauté de s’élever tous ensemble et l’état providence qui prend aux contribuables pour donner à des intérêts particuliers.

Mais c’est de l’intérêt général de soigner la population, de ramasser les poubelles et épurer les eaux usées pour éviter les épidémies. C’est de l’intérêt général de maintenir une armée et protéger ses frontières. C’est de l’intérêt général de maintenir des savoirs-faire avec des écoles et la nationalisation des secteurs stratégiques de l’économie. C’est de l’intérêt général d’éviter les famines pour éviter les émeutes, les vols, les violences. Si on détruit l’Etat, il ne restera que des ruines.

L’Etat doit intervenir dans l’économie mais il doit n’agir que dans l’intérêt général.

Il faut recadrer la notion d’Etat, pas la rejeter. L’environnement, les pandémies sont des problèmes mondiaux qui ne peuvent être résolus que par la coopération. Une personne ne peut pas faire face à ces challenges. Par exemple, éliminer la polio n’a été possibles qu’à travers les grandes campagnes mondiales de l’OMS (Organisation Mondiale de la Santé).

Il faut trouver une solution pour que l’Etat reste bien au service uniquement de l’intérêt général. Le référendum permettrait de brider l’Etat, de lui donner des limites. Il faut un Etat que les citoyens contrôlent. Il faut que les citoyens puissent agir à tout moment pour remettre l’Etat dans la direction du bien commun. C’est la même chose pour l’union européenne ou l’ONU. Ce sont de bonnes institutions si les citoyens en ont le plein contrôle, pas seulement en élisant des représentants.

Aujourd’hui, les politiciens utilisent leur pouvoir pour des intérêts particuliers, la corruption. Si l’Etat ne servait que l’intérêt général, ces personnes n’auraient plus d’intérêt à faire de la politique.

Personne ne va sauver le monde de la pollution, des guerres, des pandémies, de la famine.

Il faut la participation des citoyens, la coopération. Au niveau national et international, il faut le référendum législatif pour que le peuple obtienne les lois qu’il veut et le référendum révocatoire pour destituer un élu qui ne les représenteraient pas bien. La Suisse a ces deux types de référendums. Un Etat, des organisations syndicales et internationales pleinement démocratiques sont nécessaires.

It hadn’t made sense, but when did Jack ever?

At first, it was surprising to Divine that she had even wanted to come over – she knew he had a deadline and had agreed to the fact that he wouldn’t be able to talk to her all that much. It hadn’t made sense, but when did Jack ever?

She showed up later that evening with a bag containing pyjamas and her laptop, settling into his double bed to quietly focus on… Well, he wasn’t sure what she was doing at first. But the contacts had been taken out and replaced with her glasses, so she certainly wasn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon.

The room was filled with nothing, but keyboard clicks, a strangely soothing sound. The essay, which had been puzzling him all morning, started to flow with ease – part of Divine wondered if it was thanks to Jack.

A brief break had him unable to resist coming over to curl up to her, amused to realise she had stolen his Neo Domino University sweater from the end of the bed. “Were you cold?” He asked, glancing towards the screen. Suddenly, what she had been doing made a lot more sense. Squinting, he could see the names Fox and Dana somewhere within the paragraphs of text on her screen.

“No,” She smirked, confusing as ever, “I just like taking your clothes, they’re cosy.” She gained a roll of the eyes and a kiss in response, before he had to go back to his work.

After an hour or so had passed, he realised the typing behind him had stopped. Glancing back, he realised why.

Her laptop was closed over on the floor. And Jack? Well, she was wrapped up in his duvet, fast asleep, a small smile on her lips. As soon as the essay was submitted, he snuck into the bed beside her, just about getting her to share the duvet. Though, she let out a whine, pouting until his arms wrapped around her waist, creeping up her back under the sweater until she settled back down, burying her face against his chest.
