I've just read a diamond sky and gosh it's just such a heartbreaking dynamic between them, but so sweet while it lasts. I can't stop thinking about a fic of Alfred being manhandled and bullied into bed bc he's sick/exhausted and he's trying his hardest to stay even just a little bit professional, but in between Martha's omega fussiness and Thomas' alpha protectiveness, he just can't win. (He fucking won).

I feel like you're reading my mind, that was exactly the kind of follow-up fic I wanted to write to that fic. He's so good at taking care of his pack omega and alpha, but what about when he needs to be taken care of? Sure they asked him to be pack beta, but that means he has a duty to fulfill, and he can't be sick or tired when people are depending on him. Meanwhile Martha and Thomas are fussing over him because yes, Alfred is the glue in this pack, but he's the glue whether he's actively working or simply lying there. They want to be there with him, even if he's passed out and drooling. Even if he's not "useful."

Alfred's need to be professional and hold to his duty is so charming to me. Especially when it's contrasted with Martha and Thomas' absolute disregard for propriety and "proper" pack dynamics. Martha will growl and Thomas will purr and they'll both subvert their own stereotypes a million times over just to make Alfred laugh a little.
