more gabrily fluff - lucie admires her uncle and aunt

i wrote this so long ago while writing all my "missing gabrily scenes from chain of iron" pieces just after i finished the book and now they get to see the light of day

“The way he looks at her is so romantic,” said Lucie quietly.

Anna hummed beside her, pretending to be uninterested, but there was a small smile on her face. “Father is devastatingly in love with Mother,” she said, picking at her nails as her chosen method of feigned disinterest. “I wager he looks at her like that all the waking hours of every day, wouldn’t you say, Kit?”

“What?” Christopher looked up from his notebook, his glasses one sharp move away from falling off his face. “Oh, yes, Father and Mother. She’s been in here all night.”

Lucie could only observe wistfully, and brokenheartedly, at the look of pure love and adoration Uncle Gabriel gave Aunt Cecily as she rose from his side to pour him a glass of water from the nearby pitcher. Lucie could not recall any moment in her life that her uncle ever looked at her aunt with anything other than pure affection. Even when he looked at her with exasperation, as she was indeed still a Herondale by blood, there was affection. “Your aunt is the only one for me,” Uncle Gabriel had told Lucie one day when she was young and asked a great many questions about love. “I love her very much.”

“Mother was very frightened,” Anna added to Christopher’s comment. She flicked aside an imaginary piece of dirt from underneath her fingernail and stood straight. “She is just as in love with him and he is with her. I can’t imagine what would have happened if we’d lost him.”

“I thought you did not believe in love?” Matthew asked blankly behind them. Lucie jumped slightly—she had forgotten Matthew was there at all.

Anna only shrugged. “In most cases, yes. Love is a drug that can only cause you misery. But what my parents have is something else, I think. Something that cannot be explained with words.” She turned to Matthew. “You thought I wouldn’t believe in my parent’s love? I wouldn’t exist if their love wasn’t real. Neither would Kit or Alex.”

Kit, who had not been listening, perked up at his name. “What ho? I don’t exist?”

Anna ruffled his hair affectionately. “Sometimes it seems you do not, dear Kit,” she said. “Come along. I’m sure Father wants to see us.”

Alec: Okay, the kids' snack is in the refrigerator, their schedules are written here, they can watch TV but don't leave them unattended for too long and for no, but NO, reason do you let them take a nap. If they sleep their sleep cycle will be a disaster later.

Jace: Bro, relax, everything's going to be okay.

*Magnus in the other room*

Magnus: Okay. Let's go over it.

Rafael: Lunch at 1, snack at 3:30 and dinner when you return. Not eating anything Uncle Jace cooks, not leaving the house to hunt demons even if he says it's safe, and we can't play jumping on the furniture or walls either. We can't do dangerous spells that involve...

Max: I know! I know!

Rafael: But I'm saying it!

Magnus: Let him say one part, go ahead Blueberry.

Max: I can't do spells that involve: fire, breaking things even if they are small, summoning animals that do tsss, or psss, or ksss *putting hands in the shape of little claws*, levitating or summoning demons.

Rafael: We also can't listen to Uncle Jace if he has a new idea about a spell we've never done before.

Magnus: Very good! I am so proud of my little sweets, and what do we do if there is an emergency and daddy or Bapa can't come help?

Both: Call Aunty Catarina and Aunty Clary to save Uncle Jace.

I love the shadowhunter chronicles because it's truly one of a kind. what other book series can you say "Julian Blackthorn is related to every single parabatai and love interest of a Carstairs* yay soulmates" and that be a normal sentence. exactly, none.

I’m such a big fan of the TSC universe and all the shadowhunter lore but Magnus was kind of spitting facts here. The deeper you go, the harder it is to ignore the possibility of inbreeding 😭😭 Like sorry but if 20 unrelated characters are all descended from the same four or five families then how unrelated are you really??

But hey. The Cohort in Idris probably has it worse. They should resolve that soon.

Bc Kit is a great mix of Jace’s charm and sarcasm along with Simon’s humor, pop culture references, and nerdiness.

Jace getting a taste of what his angsty pining was like from witnessing Kit pining for Ty (was I really that bad?? Alec: yup!)

Have you ever wondered what will happen to the Lightwood necklace?

For years I've had this doubt about whether Izzy is going to give the Lightwood necklace to Magnus and Alec's daughter or if she's going to keep it for her own daughter and the Lightwood necklace would become the Lovelace necklace. Considering that the necklace actually belonged to Magnus who gave it to Camille who gave it back to him and then he gave it to Will who gave it to Cecily I think it would be a complete circle if Izzy gave it to Magnus and Alec's daughter, after all the necklace was actually created and enchanted by Magnus. On the other hand, I don't know how comfortable Alec would feel with his daughter having around her neck the necklace that HIS HUSBAND gave to his ex-lover who caused them both a lot of pain. And also I can picture Isabelle wanting to keep the necklace for her own daughter

I think the reason why TID’s found family aspect feels so intense to me is because most of the main characters really had NOTHING else in the world. Tessa was orphaned with a missing brother, Jem was orphaned, for most of the series Will might well have been an orphan, Jessamine was an orphan, Charlotte if I recall correctly was also an orphan. The London Institute was all they had. Hits hard when you think about it.

ahh love that you liked it, I also see him going to his siblings whenever they came during that month (as Kit probably would hvae moved out as he would be 18, and Anna lived on her own, but I guess they would go time to time to spend time with their parents) and demanding them an explanation for the number.

And when he didn't got it as Anna made Kit stay silent about it, he started asking them what happened in their fifth birthdays, and they told him they didnt remember as it was long ago, and Alex became exasperated with his older siblings and how useless they were for his doubt

Alex being exasperated with his older siblings is peak perfection and absolutely true. The vibe they give me is that one tiktok sound where it goes "you want a beer?" "he's 4!" "IDK WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH HIM"

I don't know if it was explained in TMI but since Jace had the identity of Jonathan Wayland throughout his youth does that mean that he had celebrated his birthday on the wrong day throughout his childhood

if so, imagine the first time he celebrated his birthday on the real day he was born or when he wakes up thinking it's his birthday and then he remembers it's actually not the case and it's the birthday of Jonathan Wayland the child he had unknowingly assumed the identity of for 16 years
