i've been meaning to watch the borgias for some time now? (tbh i get it confused all the time with ''reign'' for some reason lol)

So, important difference between The Bogias and Reign. The Borgias was on Showtime and Reign was on the CW, so Borgias was made for adults and has nudity. ;)

I can’t say much about Reign, actually. I watched exactly 1 ep. Also, some friends who I trust watched several seasons and warned me away because of a poorly handled rape plot. The Borgias only ran 3 season, and while there had been plans for an S4 or a wrap up movie that never happened (although you can read the screenplay), the ending still works.

So, what’s so great about The Borgias? First of all, the cast is fantastic. Jeremy Irons as Papa Borgia/Pope is soooooooo good.

David Oakes as his oldest son is a perfect little shit.

Joanne Whalley is a goddess as Mama Borgia. #lifegoals

But it’s François Arnaud and Holliday Grainger as Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia who steal the show.

Honestly, if you’re not ready to give yourself shamelessly over to an incest ship, I’m not sure why you’d watch this show. *snort*

But it’s also the great supporting cast, costumes, beautiful sets, and delicious backstabbing political plotty goodness. Even with its flaws, I can rewatch it over and over and over. If I had been a fic reader and writer when I watched this, man, I can’t even guess how much more it would have eaten my life when it aired.

Anyhow, it’s on Netflix. Give yourself a treat. :)

If past Allen is a bookman. Maybe what Allen did back then was partly for the clan's sake? His big priority was most likely Nea and whatever result Nea's actions would bring. But maybe because of Innocence and the Noah (since Bookman and Jr were with one and Allen strongly attracted the latter) Allen left the clan to protect them. We've seen neutrality does not protect bookman at all from either side. But unlike Sr most of the clan might act elitist thinking they're above that kind of danger-

2 so long as they keep up their traditions and ways (which might be stagnant). Past Allen might have been a critical thinker and that's why he got involved. Nea needed him. Humanity would someday die. Innocence desired him. He was a danger to the clan and saw the clan would be a danger to itself one day. Better go Nea's way to disrupt the abusive cycle. Bookman might be a critical thinker too. Taking in Lavi. Letting Allen follow destiny as the DOT. In his own way he might be trying to nudge-

3 things in a better direction. For all we know Bookman is very worried about the future. He knows things are bad for him, Lavi and possibly the rest of his clan. That's why he's so secretive. For all we know the bookman clan have fallen a bit away from their original purpose and he wants Allen and Lavi to set things right.

I think you have a major good point there.

If Past!Allen was aware that he was getting into a situation that would bring problems to the Clan i could see him be pragmatic enough to remove himself before it actuall hurts the Clan. If he got the interests of both Noah and Innocence knowing he was putting himself (and, as apprentice, by extension the whole clan) into the crossfire, then it would have been safer to remove himself from it. tbh it could also explain how readily he was to give away his life since he would have had to give up on his lifegoal in order to protect the Clan and it’s more than an enough good reason for him not to exactly plan another sort of future for himself and instead try to help.

There would be also perhaps a notion of “there is no recording of humanity possible if humanity gets destroyed” which would motivate him on Nea’s side once he realizes that his neutrality isn’t protecting him anymore. 

For all that it is worth I feel like Bookman’s influence over the Order had been hardly completely neutral, considering the amount of information about the Noah he waswilling to give out the moment they revealed themselves, and the way he himself would rather preserve Allen. I do feel like there is an understanding that this neutrality isn’t bringing them anywhere: but it does raise the question of what he used to think when they were on the Noah’s sides and it could be that Past!Allen opened his mind into doing it in a more critical approach, thus having him leave the Noah for a time and wait for whoever owuld be his apprentice.

Also depending on why Lavi was chosen, considering his eye remains a secret to the rest of the Clan, i do think this is hardly the choice of someone who priviligize entierely neutrality. Like you say it seems like he’s more nudging things in a direction he wants to. (also lest but not least, while Bookman did yell at Lavi initially for his attachement to others he had never actually chastized him with it again despite Lavi actually telling him that it hurt too much. )

So I could definitly see a more pragmatic approach to Lavi of, rather than just being convinced by his emotions and friendships (which is still something he could have done i mean, it’s Allen), convinced by seeing the stuff that were accumulating around him and removing himself in order to protect his clan, and if he was to remove himself to do so in a way that could benefit history.

At least to me that would make a lot of sense if they do go in that direction.
