I am actually so pissed. Currently replaying the game and we only have like 5 scenes with Nathan.

Why is his death of screen?? And why couldn't HE save Max in the darkroom? Because he obviously did feel a certain way about what has happened (his distressed voice mail proves that)

I am not saying he is good person, but I think it would be so much more interesting and twisted if he would have saved Max. As the obvious anti protagonist through out the game, it would be nice to see an other side to him. And for the plot!

thinking about. i dont know how to phrase this really but. chloe and frank.

like. when Chloe killed Frank i (, personally,) feel like her guilt from it was less because she killed Frank, and More because she Killed Someone (and their dog).

but!!! thats not to say she didnt feel guilty for killing Frank. because she definitely did. because on some level. despite everything. despite all of his shitty behavior. a part of her still cared for him. that tiny 15-17ish year old part in her still cared for him.

because that 15-17ish year old with intense abandonment issues in her only had. a small handful of people in her life that actually cared for her, and when THOSE few people aren’t even doing the best job at it— it’s no shit that Chloe’s standards for Good Friends are going to be Immensely dropped.

and so. it’s kind of like what happened with Rachel, but WAY less intense. when she found someone who didn’t hate her, and was willing to hang around her—after so so long of people hating her and not wanting to be around her— it makes sense that part of her would kinda latch onto them a little bit.

and so, even after all of the shit she’s learned he did— even when Frank starts to hate her— even when he threatens Max and her’s lives— part of her keeps remembering him as one of the few guys who stuck around when no one else did.

it’s just that. no matter how bad the person— if you’ve known someone for years, and they were one of the only nice people to you in a town where theres like. four people that are nice to you— it’s gonna hurt if you kill them. even if it was self defense. even if it was entirely their own fault— even if you two aren’t on even remotely good terms anymore.

ESPECIALLY for such a sentimental person like Chloe. taking that in consideration it makes me wonder. maybe she didn’t feel bad for killing Frank. maybe she felt bad for killing the person Frank used to be to her. but maybe she realized that That Frank already died long ago.

but yeah. im mentally ill. take everything i said with a grain of salt considering it is 12:07 AM.

Ok so like, I don’t think Max is/ever will be actually butch because Max doesn’t really put in any effort to be butch. It’s brought up by Chloe that Max doesn’t have a style and that’s kinda half true— she has a style but her style puts comfort above actual ‘style.’ Converse, jeans and a light jacket is a style, even if it’s a rather plain look. In my mind Max in LiS is honestly rather androgynous. She’s not trying to be fem or masc or whatever, she’s just wearing what’s in her closet. The less fuss the better.

When I say that I want Butch Max I guess I want Max caring even less than she does in LiS. She clearly has some anxiety over how she is perceived by others, see how she thinks about Victoria’s image, and I think a more ‘mature’ Max would leave that anxiety behind.

To me Max feels like the type of woman that owns like two dresses that her mom bought her to wear that she dreads putting on in formal situations then when she’s in her twenties she realizes that she doesn’t have to actually wear dresses or skirts and then proceeds to never do so again.

I guess I like that better than ‘Max wears a dress/skirt to feel sexy’ because that just doesn’t feel in character to me. Max isn’t girly or fem and she’s allowed to keep that when she’s an older adult! I like the idea that Max only wears jeans or doesn’t let her hair grow out or she owns two pairs of shoes!

I personally think the idea of her wearing a pair of slacks with, I don’t know, a nice button up or a vest could be more attractive and in character than her in a skirt or dress.

- i know max and chloe weren't in the same grade but i just know chloe was the loud ass kid in kindergarten who probably had rabies so in an attempt to shut her up the teacher made her sit with the quietest kid in recess who's only friend was her own teddy bear aka little max. this plan backfired tho bc chloe just ended up being 10x more talkative considering how it didn't take too long for her to realize that oh. she liked making the quiet kid laugh so now she's doing the wackiest shit to impress her. they finally got max to talk tho so that's a win

- ok but i just think chloe likes to carry max's bag for her whenever it gets a little heavy <33 most of the time it's a loving gesture, sometimes it's the guilt bc chloe also likes shoving her things in her gf's bag whenever her pockets are full like the masc lesbian she is

- joyce definitely once had to sit baby chloe down to explain how "girls can't marry each other yet sweetie" which only made her tantrum worse bc she kept demanding she had to marry max so they could live together someday and so william officiated their "wedding" in their backyard (i made a fic for this hc btw)

- taking this chance to spread my chloe anime stan hc like max may have had her pirate phase due to watching pirates and of the carribean but chloe got that shit from fuckin one piece

- hc that sometimes chloe would tie or pin a high ass balloon on max's hoodie so she wouldn't lose her in a crowd or even in the grocery aisle bc she tends to wander off a lot without saying a word like chloe would blink once and suddenly her gf is in a whole different store (13 yr old chloe blinked once and suddenly max was in a whole different state so yeah. she's not letting max's nosy ass out of her sight again)

- kind of an nsfw hc but chloe would totally be the type to make asking consent sexy like she knows max is new to all this stuff and so she always ask things like "is this okay?" "can i kiss you?" "may i?"

- max and chloe would absolutely do the "five second kiss" rule whenever they're fighting or when things are getting a little tense like chloe refuses to do it sometimes (even though it was her idea) bc she can't function properly when angry but she'd always end up laughing and smiling at the kiss in the end

- chloe is more verbally affectionate like so much so, the urge to tell max she misses her anytime max doesn't answer her text for more than 5 minutes gets stronger and stronger everyday

it’s actually so interesting to me how one of the main criticisms of why people didn’t like life is strange 2 is because daniel is “annoying.” and i don’t know if it’s just because i have a sibling (who albeit, is older than me so not the same dynamic as the diaz brothers) so maybe i’m not as affected by his childishness but like... he’s nine. that’s literally how nine year olds act. like, are nine year olds annoying? hell fucking yes. but this being a criticism of the game itself is so weird to me because that’s like saying you’re annoyed that their dog mushroom... barked. that’s what dogs do. and this is coming from someone who doesn’t have or ever want kids and thinks they’re incredibly annoying most of the time. tbh, i thought daniel’s behavior was pretty normal for a kid who had just watched his dad get murdered in front of him and is now on the run from authorities and also homeless, and is all the while coming to terms with his newly discovered supernatural abilities.

(Probably) A popular take:

I've been thinking a lot about "Life is Strange before the Storm" (my favourite part) how much Chloe is misunderstood. Many people see her as a failure doing everything to get expelled, smoking weed, breaking rules, etc.

But I feel her.

She never really got over her father's death. She's like Devi from "Never Have I Ever." But poorer never got the appropriate mental health care (most likely) because her mother couldn't afford it. As a person who went through depression myself, Chloe Price is a teenager who simply never got a chance to crawl out of that black hole that depression turns your life into. She just sunk deeper and deeper, and adults around her like Joyce, David, Welles, or other teachers never said anything that "slacking off," and grades dropping is a part of depression.

The only person (at that time) who she still clung onto, Max, ghosted her. Then, about 3 years later, the same happened with Rachel Amber gone. So I must say that those 6 months since Rachel disappeared and Max reentered Chloe's life was most likely the worst time of her life since her father passed. She literally had no one.

And lastly, of course, there is the fact that she asked Max to go back in time to let her die. She was willing to sacrifice herself for the whole Arcadia Bay without a second thought. (That is not only very selfless of her, but for me, it screams she wanted to die from the beginning:/ )

I must say I feel bad for her. She's still one of my favourite female characters in video games. All her behaviour is connected to mental health, her father's death, and all that unhealed trauma.

Since Life is Strange referenced Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Victoria is a reference) and I'm a big fan of BTVS, I think if LiS characters watch it, their favourite characters would be:

(The characters are Max, Chloe, Kate, Warren, Vic, and Nathan.)

Max: I think Max wouldn't really like the vampires and dark theme. Maybe it's too fantastical horror for her cuppa. But I think she'd relate to Willow the most. (A nerd who has no self-esteem then gets a magic power and gets too powerful she's drunk in it? Hell yeah.) And she'd love Tara a lot, the kindest character of all. I think Max would be very interested in Giles too. No, it's not because he's a teacher, she swore. He was very intellectual, it was very attractive! She watched when Chloe watched. It's more fun for her that way.

Chloe: Chloe would be that girl who is like "Yum, sista" when she met Faith and "I can't believe Faith is not gay. SHE'S DEF FRUITY AT LEAST." She would really empathise with Faith too (esp. her parental issues) and she would love her darkness. (Buffy had daddy issues too, but I think Faith resonated in Chloe more.) She'd think Spike was so fricking cool, at least in S2 when he was still a hardcore evil punk rock vampire, but not really after he got chipped. She'd be a little bit disappointed, but she'd still think he was hilarious. I think Chloe would be kinda annoyed at Angel's character, at least in BTVS. I don't think she'd continue watching after S5...? Maybe she didn't really care about the main romance plot lol (Hey, my mom's name is Joyce too! They are very different tho.) When Chloe stopped watching, Max stopped too.

Kate: I appreciate the soul and demons explanation, Warren. But, um, it's too dark for me. I don't really like vampires anyway...

Warren: Warren would LOVE this TV show. He'd be the type of person who SOBBED at Bangel. Bangel is so tragic, Max, I can't believe the universe doesn't want them together, WHY. He'd think Buffy was so hot, Spike was so cool, Giles was rad, etc. He loved almost every cool character. He'd be offended because a guy with his name was a pathetic, gross villain in S6. He'd really enjoy Spuffy too, he'd think it was so spicy ohohohohoho. Delicious, delicious. Then was kinda shocked at SR (iykyk) (but more like, "Oh, shit, they went there!"), cheered at the end of the S6, and then SOBBED again in the end of S7. I think he'd just enjoy whatever it was on the show and he'd think it's one of the best shows of all time. But my favourite is always Doctor Who, Max, always. He then would be off yapping about his analysis of each season and episode, or what he read on Reddit that he claimed as his own, and go blah blah blah bla--

Victoria: Same as Warren, Vic would be the biggest fan of the show. I think Vic would have Buffy as her favourite character. She'd be a Bangel shipper and a diehard Angel and DB fan. She'd be on Tumblr fighting the Spuffy fans. She agreed that Spike was hot, but the ship rivalry was just...yeah. But she'd secretly see herself in Cordelia. Victoria would ask, "I'm not as bitchy as Cordelia, right, Nate? Right??" and Nathan would just laugh his ass off, annoying her. Later in ATS, she came for Angel but had Cangel as a guilty pleasure. Cordelia's character development would kinda trouble her. Not because it wasn't good but because...well, she saw herself in her and could I be like that? Then she watched S4 and was so mad at them fucking up Cordy's arc.

Nathan: Nathan watched this show on and off because Victoria was watching it near him but he didn't like it. He wasn't too interested in a female main character and would be one of the people who was like: "She's hot but there's no way a girl that small can beat up people. (Stupid name, btw.)"

"She's the vampire slayer!" Vic protested.

"So fucking what?!"

He'd remember Riley and ask, "Where is that soldier guy?"

"He fucked off to Brazil a season ago, Nathan! Shut up about Riley already, he sucked!"

"Brazil again." (Iykyk.)

Everyone's faces look weird and don't match what they're saying, you viscerally feel it when you choose the wrong dialogue option sometimes, and you have one (1) objective on a post it note at a time and then you have 40 objects to look at and interact with in the way of you getting through that objective. And no one tells you what you can touch or not
