Energy Update: Solar Eclipse 21° Libra, 10/14/2023
Note: I've talked about eclipses many times before. I am going to make reference to past posts but try not to cross over too much of the same ground again. Please reference this post for more information.
On Saturday 10/14, we will experience a partial solar eclipse at 21° Libra. This is our first solar eclipse since the lunar nodes switched to the Aries-Libra axis during the month of July. In this way, this is a highly significant lunar event that will set the tone for the eclipse seasons to come over the next two and a half years.
The Set Up
October is an "8" month in a "7" year. During the eclipse, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury will be conjunct in Libra, Venus will be in Virgo, Mars in Scorpio, retrograde Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus, retrograde Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, and Pluto in Capricorn. The asteroid Chiron is sitting in conjunction with our North Node in the sign of Aries. All of our outer planets will be in retrograde motion except for Pluto who stationed direct the Tuesday beforehand.
There are a number of transits in play during this lunar event:
Stellium: Sun, Moon, Mercury, and the South Node in Libra (5° orb)
Solar eclipse square Pluto in Capricorn (6° orb)
Mercury in Libra opposed to Chiron in Aries (01° orb)
Venus in Virgo opposed retrograde Saturn in Pisces (04° orb, exact Tuesday)
Mars enters Scorpio (Thursday)
Mars in Scorpio trine retrograde Saturn in Pisces (01°, exact Friday)
Pluto stations direct 27° Capricorn (Tuesday)
Retrograde Neptune in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn
Chiron conjunct the North Node in Aries (7° orb)
When determining the significance of transits, one should consider the most exact transits and all transits involving the lunar event to be highly significant. Second to that, we take into account aspects to our personal planets. Outer planet aspects will color the general feel of the day but will, for the most part, not impact our individual lives.
In this way, we should note a strong opposition between the stellium of our Sun, Moon, Mercury, and the South Node in Libra and Chiron and the North Node in Aries. Additionally, both Venus and Mars are in aspect with Saturn, our planet of restriction and boundaries.
The Nitty Gritty
This solar eclipse will have mixed energy as it combines the energy of new beginnings from the new moon with endings due to its conjunction with the South Node. There is a lot of pain close to the surface which may be stopping us from stepping forward into the new beginning that we are looking for (Chiron conjunct the North Node). This is your cosmic reminder that pain isn't always the STOP sign that we think it is, but instead is more of a check engine light.
Pain tells us that there is something that needs attention.
You may be holding on to something too tightly. Both Venus in Virgo and Mars in Scorpio will be in tight aspect with retrograde Saturn all week. Saturn is often known as the planet of restriction, but this is because he is Father Time. Saturn, like the lunar nodes, is closely associated with the concept of fate - but fate very rarely means what you think that it does. Time is relentless, always marching onwards. If the old adage is the only inevitabilities are death and taxes, Saturn controls both. Saturn is the reminder that as time goes on, some of the options that we kept on the back burner slip away.
Every opportunity in your life has a limited half-life. We just can't do everything. Eventually, we need to choose.
That's where the lunar eclipses come in. Everything is a choice; but eventually, if you don't make a choice, the world moves on. There is an element of analysis paralysis at play here (Libra's greatest weakness) - somebody needs to shit or get off of the pot, metaphorically speaking.
Eclipses are the Big Hitter transits of the year - they tend to feel so far beyond us that it can be overwhelming. Sometimes it can feel easiest to run from this energy or to disassociate and hide your head in the sand. That's not an option when Saturn is in play - Saturn demands that you put in the work in your own life.
It won't feel comfortable for anyone, but those who are showing up, who are trying to make changes, who are keeping their eyes wide open and witnessing their own life - those are the people who will shine through this lunation.
This isn't to say that they will be able to control how the eclipses show up in their lives. Eclipses are wild card energy; the best we can do is enjoy the ride. But if you've made right in your life, if you know what you need to let go of and what you need to draw in - you may recognize it when eclipses give you what you need.
The same old eclipse advice is in play here: Stay VERY AWARE of what doors open and close for you during the upcoming eclipses and the two weeks between these lunar events. Eclipses have a way of aligning you toward your life path (astrology is, in essence, a study of who you are and what you were born to experience in this lifetime). This isn't as restrictive an idea as people would like to believe: there is no one way to walk your "life path" - you always have free will and choice. Still, the natal birth chart especially does highlight the parts of life where you will find the most rich and meaningful experiences.
As the eclipse falls on the Aries-Libra axis, we all - collectively and personally - are struggling in some fashion with the conflict between being true to ourselves (Aries) versus being part of the collective (Libra). With Chiron so tightly in play, we can see that pain is close to the surface. You may find yourself questioning some things you were taught as a child by your family, religious group, or culture - especially if you are undergoing a Saturn return, square, or opposition.
Aries teaches us that it is right - even holy - to be our own true selves. The pain of this individualization process is being highlighted by Chiron and the North Node's conjunction in the sign of the Ram. Chiron shows us that it hurts while the North Node reminds us that we should do it anyway. The one person that you always need to be accountable to is yourself. (Libras especially may find that idea triggering)
In a very triggery week, it is worth remembering that triggers can be sacred things too - they show us the parts of ourselves that need attention. If you are in a space where it is safe to do so, try leaning into the pain rather than away from it. There is a lot to uncover in the weeds during this time.
There is no easy this week. Life is just like that sometimes. Practice your very best self-care if you need it. This energy will lift at the end of the month after we go through our eclipsed Scorpio full moon the weekend before Halloween.
Do you like my work? You can support me by tipping me here on Tumblr or on Kofi. Every little bit helps.

Welcome to the Shadow of the Eclipse
October 4-31, 2023
Some introductory notes
The “shadow of the eclipse” is a time period lasting from 10 days before the first eclipse, to three days after the final eclipse. It is recommended not to start anything new, or schedule anything important, during these days - as usual I refer everyone to the 1981 wedding of Lady Diana Spencer to the Prince of Wales, as an example.
Of course we live in a place/time which scoffs at letting astrology help with the timing of events - therefore don’t lose hope if something falls unavoidably within the eclipse shadow. Just be prepared.
I wanted to take a more thorough approach to delineation, this time. I hope it’s helpful.
South Node Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse happens when the New Moon lies close (in the Zodiac) to either the North Lunar Node, or to the South one. It occurred to me to do a little research on whether which Node is involved, makes any difference - and yes, it does.
Astrologers call the South Node “the dragon’s tail” - Steven Forrest calls the South Node, “the dragon’s butt” - because here we are “pooping out” what we don’t need and can’t use. (One person’s poop, however, is another person’s fertilizer.)
Eclipses conjunct the South Lunar Node, like the October 14 one, have an outflowing (outpooping?) of energy. They tend to feature external events which we have to “rise up to.”
If you’d like to note how these have affected you in the past (always a good idea to check “what happened last time”), here is a list of the previous South Node solar eclipses in this century:
December 14, 2001, 22°56’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2002, 11°58’ Sagittarius
November 23, 2003, 1°14’ Sagittarius
October 14, 2004, 21°06’ Libra
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
September 22, 2006, 29°20’ Virgo
September 11, 2007, 18°25’ Virgo
August 1, 2008, 9°32’ Leo
July 22, 2009, 29°27’ Cancer
July 11, 2010, 19°24’ Cancer
June 1, 2011, 11°02’ Gemini
July 1, 2011, 9°12’ Cancer
May 20, 2012, 0°21’ Gemini
May 10, 2013, 19°31’ Taurus
April 29, 2014, 8°52’ Taurus
March 20, 2015, 29°27’ Pisces
March 9, 2016, 18°56’ Pisces
February 26, 2017, 8°12’ Pisces
February 15, 2018, 27°08’ Aquarius
January 6, 2019, 15°25’ Capricorn
December 26, 2019, 4°07’ Capricorn
December 14, 2020, 23°08’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2021, 12°22’ Sagittarius
October 25, 2022, 2°00’ Scorpio
October 14, 2023, 21°08’ Libra
Going down that list was a very uncomfortable trip down memory lane for me. When those South Node eclipses affected me, it was generally a harbinger of some difficult “external event” which I had little to no control over - which is not the same thing as saying “it wasn’t my fault.” I brought some of it on myself due to bad decisions. Some karma chickens coming home to roost, in other words. Not all of them were dire, though. One in particular gave me something of a respite from what had been happening in my life - it was conjunct my natal 12th House cusp.
Saros Series “7 South”
This eclipse is part of Saros Series “7 South.” Bernadette Brady writes,
The individual experiencing this series will find that huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through his or her life very rapidly. Either way the individual will feel that everything is moving at great speed. (The Eagle and the Lark)
Previous Saros “7 South” eclipses in Ms M’s lifetime:
September 11, 1969, 18°53’ Virgo
September 23, 1987, 29°34’ Virgo
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
Not quite as depressing for me personally.
Whatever Shall We Do?
1) Determine which of your natal houses this eclipse falls in.
2) Determine whether the eclipse makes an aspect to anything in your chart. Use a 1° orb. In my case, the conjunctions, squares, sesquiquads (135°), inconjuncts, and oppositions made the most obvious impacts.
3) If there is a close aspect to a planet, check to see which house(s) that planet rules. One South Node eclipse was conjunct the ruler of my natal 4th House, and I moved three months later.
4) Avoid strenuously negative thoughts. If you put a lot of energy into anticipating that something is going to be horrible and painful and disastrous, well, guess what - that’s exactly what’s going to happen. If you catch yourself falling into a panic, try to refocus the energy into “the best possible outcome.”

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗜𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 : 𝟭𝟳 𝗝𝘂𝗹’𝟮𝟯 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟭 𝗝𝗮𝗻’𝟮𝟱
This is first nodal return for those born between Dec 2004 to June 2006. First nodal return wakes us up to our destiny - why were in born in the first place … to learn what, to perform what, to initiate what. Then this is second nodal return for those born between Apr 1986 to Dec 1987. This provides a reset if we have been on an old path for far too long loosing its purpose for this life. A new life mission is given.
For all of us look back to these years as everything from that time shifts!
For those born between Aug 1967 to Apr 1969 this is third nodal return & like every nodal return we get extra impetus to explore our life’s purpose but in third nodal return both north node & south node of our natal chart have matured which reduces the frantic finding nature of these interpreted as “malefic” in Vedic & glorified as “ambitious” in western astrology. Truth is somewhere in middle. We are found & we know ourself. There are less mindless escapades yet it’s no less bold phase of life

Intuitive Astrology: Aries Solar Eclipse March 2025
The Aries Partial Solar Eclipse on March 29, 2025, celebrates a graduation point and the completion of a cycle we have been working with since April 2023.
Let’s take a moment to cast our minds back two years ago. How has life shifted for you since then, especially when it comes to your relationships and how you show up in them? Are you feeling more aligned when it comes to the people you choose to surround yourself with? Have you had to do away with relationships, or perhaps relationship dynamics, that were no longer serving you?
Since April 2023, we have been working with the Aries-Libra Eclipse cycle, a cycle that has been guiding us to grow and evolve when it comes to our relationships and our identity. We may have been guided to get real with ourselves and with those around us and to create more authenticity.
Perhaps you are able to see how you have evolved in your relationships since this time. Perhaps you are able to now see yourself more clearly and are feeling more confident about the person you are when surrounded by others.
As the last Eclipse in this Aries-Libra cycle, the Aries Solar Eclipse on March 29, represents a culmination point where we are able to feel and honor the rewards of all our efforts. This Aries Eclipse indicates the opening of a new pathway to better, more aligned, and healthier relationships. It represents the opening of a pathway to honor ourselves and our truth, and to feel confident about who we are and how we present ourselves to the world.
Take a moment to breathe all of this in and celebrate the journey you have taken when it comes to these energies. Perhaps journal or write down all the ways this energy has moved through your life and evolved to where you are today.
The Aries Solar Eclipse is a Road Opener
The March 2025 Aries Solar Eclipse is not just a graduation point for reflection, but also a road opener to how we want to move forward with this new knowledge and wisdom. It is a power time to set intentions around what we wish to call in, especially when it comes to the relationship with ourselves and others.
Solar Eclipses are supercharged New Moons, and bring the start of a new lunar cycle. Fresh energy will flow under this Eclipse, which will help us to shake of the stale and stagnant energies of the past and to welcome the new energies of the future.
With the Blood Moon Eclipse stirring the winds of change and transformation earlier in the month, this Aries Eclipse may feel like a welcomed burst of energy that could help shift things and get us looking in a more optimistic direction.
Welcome this fresh energy into your life. Know that doors are opening for you, so stay open to what may come your way.
The Solar Eclipse in Aries
While there is a lot to celebrate under this Eclipse, some potent karmic energy is flowing as well, which may stir some intensity and heated emotions. Aries is a fire sign and can sometimes get us stuck in our ego or heady emotions. We may feel irritable and frustrated or find ourselves no longer wishing to tolerate certain behaviors.
We will have to be mindful of these energies, but to also allow ourselves a safe and supportive outlet to release and express ourselves.
Anger and other heated emotions often stem from a deeper place of sadness or even a willingness to control. Observe where these deeper emotions may be coming up for you and see if it helps to create a shift.
As much as we want to control the outcome, it is not always in our power. Use the Eclipse energies instead, to ask for strength, to ask for guidance, and to ask for support as you move through any challenges.
Cosmic Energies Around the Aries Solar Eclipse
At the time of this Eclipse, both Mercury and Venus are in retrograde, which points to a need to move with conscious intention and to look to the past for guidance on how to move forward.
There are answers in our past or past experiences that we need to pay attention to under this Solar Eclipse.
Perhaps it is only when we look to the past and observe the patterns that we are able to make sense of how best to move forward.
Both Mercury and Venus in Retrograde can create some miscommunications or even fogginess, so be mindful of this as you navigate what the Eclipse brings. Be patient, and don’t be in a rush to make concrete decisions. Allow things time to unfold; by the end of the lunar cycle, we should have a greater understanding.
-Forever Conscious

Astrology of the Week

“Eclipsed” by Misty
✨Monday, March 24th: Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (Rx)
This Mercury retrograde period brings a lot of re-evaluations regarding the ideas we want to bring to life, potentially even old ideas that we previously let fall to the wayside. The sun meets up with Mercury, revitalizing our minds with a fresh burst of solar power. Old concepts and conversations can now be looked at from a fresh new perspective.
✨Tuesday, March 25th: Mercury Rx sextile Pluto
As Mercury continues retracing its steps, it goes back to this aspect we last experienced on March 5th. After this enlightenment from yesterday, Pluto adds some focus-power to our minds. We’ll be wanting to get to the root of things today.
✨Thursday, March 27th: Venus Rx enters Pisces & Venus conjunct Neptune
With Venus in Aries, love is a battlefield. Now, Venus retraces its steps back into Pisces, where love becomes more of a fairytale —especially with Neptune coming into play. This feels like the make-up period after a fight with someone you love, when things can once again feel dreamy and cuddly. This is a great time to engage your sense of fantasy, especially when it comes to artistry.
✨Saturday, March 29th: Solar Eclipse in Aries & Mercury Rx enters Pisces
This day marks the last of the eclipses in the Aries/Libra cycle. Since 2023, we have been on a collective journey learning lessons about self vs. other, autonomy vs. dependence, and self-assertion vs. people pleasing. This has been a time of mastering the art of balancing our authentic selves within our interpersonal relationships. Solar eclipses are super-charged new moons to set us on new paths. It’s time to take all of these relational lessons into our next chapter.
Mercury retrograde entering Pisces this same day grants a wonderful opportunity for processing —maybe even mentally escaping— any of the eclipse craziness we’ve experienced this month. This will be a good day for reflecting and reconnecting to your oneness within.
✨Sunday, March 30th: Neptune enters Aries
We are experiencing important outer planet ingresses this year that mark the start of a new era. Neptune —the planet of dreams, illusion, and confusion— spends around 14 years in one sign, and for the last 14 years it was lost swimming with the fish. Today, it enters the sign of the pioneer, the warrior, and leader. The art of astrological prediction requires looking at the past in order to look to the future. The last time Neptune was in Aries was from 1861 - 1875, when we saw:
✨The American Civil War
✨The abolition of slavery in America
✨The invention of dynamite
✨Completion of the first transcontinental railroad
✨The start of the 2nd Industrial Revolution
This is the start of a deeper story unfolding when it comes to the illusion of leadership, and the illusion of the self-made person. This also speaks to the dream of striking out on one’s own in pursuit of freedom and autonomy. These next 8 months will be a taste of what’s to come for the next 14 years, as Neptune makes one final dip into the waters of Pisces later this year.
