in light of recent events, i am seeing a lot of posts talking about punching nazis and fighting nazis. and that is good and all, but at the end of the day it is worthless if your activism starts and ends at condemning the nazi salute. antisemitism and nazism are more than sieg heiling and spray painting swastikas on a wall.
if you truly care about nazism, learn about its characteristics. learn what it really means. learn how it has affected and still affects jewish people. learn about antisemitism, about dogwhistles, about stereotypes. learn how to identify it when it's hidden, when it's not coming from right-wing white supremacists who openly hate jews, when it's coming from friends, or relatives, or other left-wing groups. identify what antisemitic beliefs you hold. fight antisemitism even when it is directed at jews you don't like or you disagree with.
and, above everything, support the jewish community. learn about their history, their culture, their customs. love jews more than you hate nazis.
international holocaust remembrance day is next week (january 27th). if you truly want to be an ally to the jewish community, condemning elon musk is not enough.

Antisemites really do just pull Talmud citations out of their asses and hope that gentiles don't know how to look it up. If some Nazi goon on twitter says "Sanhedrin 59a: It is not forbidden to murder a gentile because gentiles are like unto beasts," I can just go on Sefaria and look, and see that the Rabbis discuss nothing even close to that (never mind that any Rabbi who asserted such a thing would get his ass beat by later commentators). Nowhere in this debate is the notion that gentiles are like wild animals, or even whether it's permitted to murder gentiles at all, brought up? This conclusion that the Nazi comes to must be made out of whole cloth, or else repeated from someone else who made it out of whole cloth.

Make Some History
For @drarrymicrofic slander. Two things I love! Discussions about law, and Drarry! And flirting!
"It's complete rubbish! No one cheated. It was an amicable breakup. But Gin's getting Howler after Howler, and the Harpies have had to beef up security." Harry tosses the newspaper onto Malfoy's desk. "Skeeter can't get away with this again. I want to sue her and the Prophet for slander."
Malfoy shakes his head. "Actually, it's libel."
Harry blinks. "Isn't that the same thing?"
Malfoy chuckles. "While I'd normally love to make a crack about your lack of intelligence, Potter, it's actually a common misconception. Libel and slander are both types of defamation, but libel is published content, and slander is spoken, as in a speech or conversation."
Harry hums. "Interesting. You really know your stuff."
Malfoy scoffs. "I'm only one of the top defamation litigators in the Wizarding World."
Harry leans back in his chair and props his feet up on Malfoy's desk just to see if he'll scowl. Which he does.
Harry smirks. "So, do you think we'd have a case?"
Malfoy snorts. "Well, it'll take a lot more than a single conversation with you to actually determine that, not to mention that no one's ever won a defamation suit against the Prophet. But," he grins, wide and a bit unsettling, "that's because they've never been sued by me."
Harry swings his legs off the desk and leans forward toward Malfoy, holding out his hand. "So, you'll do it?"
"Potter," Malfoy says, taking Harry's hand in a firm shake. "Let's make some history."

maybe stop committing genocide if you don't want the shit rightfully beat out of you. How many Palestinians have you murdered again?
oh shit you got me. i, personally, have killed probably 10,000 palestinians from my home in kentucky. i'm actually personal friends with benyamin netanyahu, too, he comes to our kabbalat shabbat services regularly on his private jet or something. he also always makes sure to bring fresh christian babies' blood for us to use in the matzah we eat every shabbat afternoon. damn, i really thought i was hiding it

Summertimenoir's 1k followers celebration - My top 10 Old Hollywood actresses
4. Jean Harlow
I was not a born actress. No one knows it better than I. If I had any latent talent, I have had to work hard, listen carefully, do things over and over and then over again in order to bring it out.

Republicans are absolutely 100% manufacturing consent for pogrom-like violence against immigrant communities, specifically Haitians. That is true. Haitians keeping their children home because of increased threats and harassment is a cause for alarm.
But seeing people already call it a pogrom... nobody has been chased out of their home, nobody has been murdered, nobody has been raped, nobody has posed with the bodies for grizzly photo-ops. I don't know, this all fits into the larger narrative of liberal~leftist apathy toward anti-Jewish violence, taking it and washing out its historic Judenhass connotations, and applying the term to anyone even when the conditions haven't been met yet. At the least, there's a lot about historic pogroms that the general American public just don't know about. They're not aware of just how brutal and swift they were. All it takes is a little education, but clearly it took me wanting to become a Jew to even try to learn more about Jewish history so I don't have a lot of faith in the vast majority of gentiles.
It's a complicated mix of emotions where like, it's appropriate to be nervous and scared for these communities, but I find myself annoyed that most of these accounts just don't care when entire Jewish communities are harassed and have libel spread against them. A lot of online leftists certainly didn't care, in fact celebrated, the October 7th pogrom!
Let's hope nothing escalates further, but it is not appropriate to just take terms from Jewish history, not understand the actual implications of these terms, and throw them at the nearest Republican politician. It's just like invoking Hitler. And when you also apply these terms to Jews, I know you are not operating in good faith.

there is a very cruel irony that, at the same time as people progress a blood libel against jews—that our self-determination is just an excuse to murder children—people are appropriating the figure in jewish tradition that represents infant mortality—a demon that exists to murder children—as a figure of female empowerment & individualistic self-determination
