બાળગીત – સાચી શીખ (BaaLgeet – Saachee Sheekh) …. Live ….
A Gujarati Rhyme on the Moral of The Story of – The Liar Shepherd Boy and Tiger …. “A Liar’s Truth Is Not Believed"
 Singer : Vanita Thakkar
 Lyrics :
This Gujarati Rhyme describes the moral of the story of The Liar Shepherd and Tiger, in which a mischievous shepherd boy used to shout for help, pretending that a tiger had attacked and the villagers used to run to help him. He would then laugh and say that he was merely joking. The villagers stopped believing him. One day, when in fact, a tiger attacks, his calls for help remain unanswered ....
The first four lines of the song say that falsehood always harms, even when it is enacted as a game or joke.
The second paragraph of four lines says, one who lies, even as a joke, gets trapped. Truth gets revealed and the liar has to repent.
The last paragraphs says that one who acts thoughtlessly, later has to repent and such works may even cost one's life.
Note :  This is the live recording done on 15th June, 2023 …. Background sounds were inevitable. Please use headphones for better results.

so as of trial 5, here's the number of times people knew shuichi lied in the trials:
kokichi: probably every time tbh. he played along in trial 2 when kirumi was being implicated (because he also, by then, figured out kirumi was sabotaging the trial). he starts poking fun at shuichi by trial 4 then eventually gets pissed off (though tbh I think he was more so mad at gonta and shuichi's lying just tipped him over from annoyed to really mad). but he pretty much let shuichi do whatever he wanted for the other trials.
maki: 3x. the first time was when shuichi faked an alibi for her in trial 2. the second time was and when he lied about tenko dying immediately in trial 3, which maki would know because she's the one who told shuichi that tenko's death wasn't instant. interestingly, maki corroborates shuichi's lie to kokichi when asked, and kokichi was just like "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ mmmkay sure whatever you say." the third time, he says in trial 5 that there's no lock in the cockpit of the exisals, which again maki would know because she piloted one of those things herself. but to be fair, she was also lying about not using an exisal in the first place.
kaito: 1x. he helps corroborate shuichi's lie about maki having an alibi in trial 2.
keebo: 1x. shuichi lied about keebo not being able to see through his flashlight function lol. it was a pretty bad lie. keebo was flustered and just said he didn't remember anything.
kaede: 1x. shuichi tries to steer the class away from kaede once in trial 1.
I'm not counting any of his lies involving himiko since none of them seemed effective lol and they always make it seem like shuichi was just humoring the supernatural options rather than outright lying or falsifying evidence, unlike the rest of the time where he actually does make up alibis and fake facts to steer the case along. so when himiko is the target of shuichi's lies, it never seems like he's lying to or about her.
there was also a lie in trial 5 where it comes off more as "wishful thinking" than an actual lie, so I don't think kaito would have caught it as a lie.
so to conclude, kokichi and maki both have the most experience and knowledge of shuichi being a lying liar who lies.

finally finished the priory of the orange tree after putting it off for like a year, and putting aside the fact that it's insanely boring, way too long, and the romance is lackluster, it certainly was a choice to, in a book at least in part about finding common ground and coming together, basically go "religion a is correct and good and its believers can continue on their merry lives, but religion b is a 100% incorrect wrong bad lie founded by a wrong bad misogynistic lying liar, and everyone who believes in it should convert and in fact we're going to end the book by heavily implying that the recently-converted queen is going to slowly but surely pressure the entire country to convert because their faith is wrong and bad". like that was certainly a decision that samantha shannon made.
#idk i don't love an entire religion being painted as objectively inherently bad and wrong#especially since none of the six virtue's actual teachings are that bad like#and also esp since the only other thing we learn about galian berethnet is that he was fucking r/ped by his own mother#and was so distraught upon learning this that he killed himself#the fact that aside from that its just like 'he was a lying liar who lies and hated women' just didn't sit right with me...#the priory of the orange tree#priory of the orange tree#the roots of chaos#anti booktok#samantha shannon#like the entire time before this was revealed i was like#'ah its so obvious - both faiths are going to end up being a little bit wrong and a little bit right'#'of course it will be revealed that cleolind and galian actually worked together to defeat the nameless one'#'and learning this will really press into the characters that they themselves need to work together to defeat him again'#but instead like????#and like even with the kalyba stuff it would have been so easy you can say like:#cleolind and galian worked together but kalyba (canonically posessive and jealous and willing to do horrible things to keep galian w/ her)#uses her magic to make cleolind believe that galian betrayed her which she then goes and tells her priory#+ in an effort to keep as low a profile as possible for herself while disguised as cleolind she makes galian believe that he did everything#and when her disguise falls he's so distraught that he kills himself and so the only one who knows the truth is kalyba#who certainly has no motivation to reveal the truth

Doing a rewatch of Midnight Mass 'cause it's that time of year. This series had so, so many epic monologues, but this remains one of my favorites. Mike Flanagan will own my heart forever simply on the power of this one scene, that hit me like a sledgehammer because it was like he reached into my head, snatched up my thoughts about organized religion, and put them on the screen for everyone to see.

hiihiii i love the way u write shidou smmmm so if ur requests r still open id like something with shidou + lies <3
Hellooo thank you!! Shidou zoomed his way into my favorites and I really enjoy writing him, haha! Here's a bit of him hanging with the smoking group T1
The problem with lying, Shidou had found, is that you end up fooling everyone involved. If you spend time trying to deceive someone, the people close to you will also believe it. If you continue, it will affect all those in proximity. And, if you do it for long enough, you’ll start to deceive yourself.
Shidou had certainly lost track of his lies for a while. Right before it had all come crashing down around him, he’d almost believed all the beautiful tales of hope and health he’d been spreading. He’d almost seen the world as the place he’d been describing.
And then the truth hit him; it crushed him. Seeing all the blood on his hands, he’d tried to swear the whole thing off in what little time he had left in this life. But, like his other habits, it was a difficult one to break.
He exhaled smoke into the room, listening to Mikoto go on about the busy days of his office job. Shidou was concerned how he still spoke about everything as if he’d be heading right back after all this.
He wanted nothing more than to sit him down for an examination. There were several reasons he may not remember his crime -- it was most likely the emotional shock, but Shidou couldn’t rule out the possibility of a head injury, an illness, a seizure, a stroke, or even it being a side effect of whatever drugs Milgram must have given the prisoners when bringing them here. It took everything in him to let Mikoto be. After all, no one was going to request help from a “killer doctor,” and he didn’t have any of his usual equipment.
So he just stood and smoked in silence.
“What about you?” Kazui asked. “My line of work definitely stressed me out, too. But I don’t think I’ve seen you bat an eye at anything since coming here.” He nudged Shidou. “Are you just as cool under pressure as those movie doctors?”
Shidou’s lips angled to a smile. “I suppose so. Though, I believe they look calm because they’re meant to appear perfectly competent. I’m calm so that patients don’t realize I am imperfect.”
Was that all he was, when he killed those people? Just ‘imperfect’?
Seeing the way Mikoto’s eyebrows shot up, he clarified, “I’m very competent, mind you. But no doctor is perfect. Many patients will panic if you show even the slightest sign of doubt.”
He teased, “so you just lie to everyone all day? Damn, remind me to watch out the next time I go in for a checkup.”
“No, it isn’t like that.” Wasn’t it?
The other two continued the conversation, but Shidou grew quiet. Was that something else he’d started to believe? Another thing he’d convinced himself was normal when, in fact, it was very, very wrong?
“I get that. Confidence is really important when dealing with dangerous situations.”
“Heh, I’ve definitely put up a bit of an act around here for some of the younger prisoners. I think it’s been helping, they seem calmer from when this all started.”
That’s right -- his goal was always to help, to calm. He watched Mikoto rub his temple absently, and knew another headache was approaching and knew what to do for it. He’d helped Haruka get over a cold the past week. He and Kotoko had discussed nutrition tips the other day. He was still doing good. The smile that he put up for the others was still doing good.
“Well, I’m glad we’ve got a professional around here.” Kazui gestured his cigarette to Shidou, snapping him away from his thoughts. “Nothing against the guard, but it’s nice to have someone like you who can help me look out for everyone.”
“Yeah, feel better about being here already!” Mikoto slung an arm around him. The boy's expression showed he was trying to appear in on some joke. “So, doc, you think that all of us are getting out of this crazy place in one piece?”
Shidou wanted to warn him the situation was more serious than he knew. Milgram was not a big joke. He was not a man to be trusted. He was not a man to be forgiven.
But old habits die hard.
“Oh, I'm sure of it.”

it's so upsetting cause, the way i see it, there's a group of like three people here who can very well be walking around committing these crimes, except if i say they went in and out through the window of the bedroom/bathroom to kill eva & hideyoshi, lambdadelta would probably say this isn't a valid answer 🫠

do you think in some fucked up way c!dream genuinely thought he was helping in exile? like, obviously, he knew torture was bad and was knowingly manipulating c!tommy and having a power trip, but on some level do you think he thought even if he was being cruel it was balanced out by the good he thought he was doing? do you think he thought l'manberg was a bad influence, do you think he thought c!tommy needed a guiding hand? do you think he saw isolating him as showing him that all the world really cares about is power? do you think he genuinely thought c!tommy was happier as his obedient protege?
and do you ever think about what that’d mean for his big happy family?

I have been informed that lying is supposed to be harder than telling the truth?? like it's supposed to take more brain energy??
but when I lie, it's typically because it's easier to give a simple, false explanation than it is to remember all the details on the spot that are required to be truthful. like, lying is near effortless, I don't have to think about it at all
tbh it probably looks like I'm lying when I'm telling the truth because it takes me so long to respond and I get all fidgety

Tfw I randomly feel extreme amounts of anger and annoyance towards someone because they just criticised my shit decision from before
And I get more and more aggravated by them being in my territory and forcing me to do dumb shit for no reason so I snap???
And they go: oo haha you're so angry! Your face got so red lol (my face literally never goes red, even during workouts, only in extreme circumstances)
And I'm like: well you called me an idiot! Thats a good cause for anger!
Them; Nooo I didn't! Why are you lying!? I called you a moron*, not an idiot!
Me: um????? Moron is literally worse than idiot though, why does it matter??
Them: What, you going to go and tell [my partner] I called you an idiot? That's how a rumour spreeads, you know? It's not true!
Me: but you literally called me a moron! Why are you making your case worse??
Them: but I didn't call you an idiot! Liar!
Them: you're not contributing anything to the house anyway! Youre not interacting with other household members at all!!!
Me: ?????I literally do???? all the time?????
*I'm not sure if "debil" translates better to moron or retard, but generally its a stronger insult than "idiota"
