If anyone is interested, this is where I read the English translation of the novel Auspicious Pattern Lotus House (MLC). It's updated every week or so, and it's surprisingly well translated despite being an MTL. Or at least it seems like it is, since I don't speak Mandarin lol.
Honestly I haven't found another English translation that's readable, so thought I'd share it in hopes others can enjoy it as well! 😊🪷
Edit: as another reader said ~ it's readable to the point I didn't realize it was machine translated since the human behind it seems to be doing more than copy pasting to google translate, and the notes talk about sending phrases, etc. through different places and coloquial translation references.

ah yes... when he killed li lianhua forever by reviving li xiangyi and then prepared (and proceeded) to kill li xiangyi forever. in front of the single person who has been desperately devoted to both (or one, or whichever version of this single individual in front of him).

So i found an extremely interesting commment on bilibili from someone who had bought and read the entire og lhl script and also watched the show
Tumblr media
translation: ask the director, so much fluff got deleted…. the script was filled with so much ship content, better than a lot of danmei novels i’ve read. In the later periods it was a solid reciprocal relationship, xiaobao was so top energy, and xiaohua really liked to sajiao (playing cute). When xh when to explain to xb that he didn’t kill his dad his first sentence was “i’m sorry i betrayed your trust, i was wrong okay?”. when xb went to save xh from the palace, xh was tortured for information and xiaobao helped him dress his wounds, and also broke the hand of the man who hurt him. xb felt so bad for him he started crying and xh started to sajiao “i’m very glad that you came to save me, but look (waves handcuffs), i had it under control” xiaobao also asked “how are you” xiaohua replied that shan gudao went to the palace to find the mother bug and xiaobao replied “i was asking how your wounds were”…… also when xiaobao broke out of the trap improving his original swordplay his opponent wasn’t qi mushan but li xiangyi….lastly when xiaobao gave xiaohua his qi xiaohua’s internal monologue was “the world only wants the all knowing, all capable, godlike li xiangyi, but at least someone still insists on treating me like the normal person li lianhua, that is enough” it’s all gone i’m so mad

wip wednesday—well, it's still wednesday somewhere.
have a bit of the fic that i'm not writing, which is unfortunately one of only two things my brain is currently willing to produce words for.
Fang Duobing jerks awake into the grey light of morning. In bed next to him, Li Lianhua lies still and silent. His breath isn’t rattling the way it has since they found him on the beach. He’s not shivering. He always shivers.  Fang Duobing's hands hover anxiously, and tears spill down his cheeks, because this stillness can mean only one thing; can mean only that after everything, they’ve failed. He’s failed. Li Lianhua died right next to him, pressed against his side, and he didn’t even notice. The feeling catches in his throat and chokes him, and a desperate, gasping sob falls from his mouth. He carefully keeps his hands to himself, burying his face in them rather than stretching them out, because when he touches Li Lianhua, it’ll be unavoidable. It will be real, and he’s not ready to live in that world yet, not when he can cling to this one, tears or not, for even a moment longer.  ‘Xiaobao?’ Li Lianhua’s voice is morning-rough but steady, and Fang Duobing discovers that his hands move of their own accord, pawing through the blankets to find Li Lianhua.  ‘Xiaohua,’ he gasps, still shoving blankets aside. ‘You’re—’ His hand touches warm skin, and he gives up removing the rest of the blankets and flings himself on top of Li Lianhua, as careful as he can bear to be, but desperate to know that he’s still there. Fang Duobing rests his forehead on Li Lianhua’s bony shoulder. ‘I thought you were dead,’ he says. ‘You were so still; you were so—’ ‘What have you done?’ Li Lianhua cuts him off so sharply that it makes him pull back far enough that he can see more than the shoulder directly in front of him. ‘I was so scared,’ Fang Duobing says. ‘I  thought—’ ‘What have you done?’ Li Lianhua asks again, sounding panicked.

Ficlet:
Di Feisheng and Fang Duobing outlive Li Lianhua by decades. On the twentieth anniversary of the day he finally succumbed to the bicha poison, Di Feisheng and Fang Duobing park the Lianhua Lou by the East Sea to visit his grave.
They are about to leave when the ocean mist clears, and they see smoke in the distance. Perhaps a raided village? Judging by how thin it is, it has been burning for some time. Di Feisheng and Fang Duobing are not as spry as they used to be -- gray streaks in their hair -- but they are prepared to investigate when they hear a cry.
The current washes up a baby in a basket, like an offering to them both. Fang Duobing rushes to pick it up, and when they finally make it to the village, they find that a local family has been massacred, their manor burned to ashes.
They raise the child as Li Anle, but call him Xiaohua or Huahua as a nickname. For the child is precocious as he grows, taking to martial arts as if he was born to carry a sword. When Di Feisheng first teaches him to spar, he rams the wooden sword into his chest as if he could see the spot where his scar is. When Fang Duobing brings home a dog, Huahua insists on a list of increasingly outrageous names, beginning with Qilin and ending on Hulijing.
The first time Xiaohua hears Di Feisheng call Fang Duobing by his milk name, he giggles and sings out "Fang Xiaobao!" the rest of the day, careless and unfilial. Fang Duobing does not have the heart to chastise him. And when Xiaohua begins dueling with the neighbors, he always uses his winnings to make Di Feisheng chicken legs for dinner. They try to convince themselves that it's because they miss their friend, that they're old and sentimental, but they're terrible liars, even to themselves. So they watch the child skip rocks along the East Sea, and when he turns around, they catch the sharp and clever glance of someone who did not merely wither into the earth, but like a lotus, transformed.

this college au isn't getting out of my head so here y'all go, some headcanons
despite being the first in the world at age 15 LXY still ended up with crippling self-worth issues and imposter syndrome.. makes me think he'd be a burnt out fgli (first-generation low-income) student at a rich school.. university au (this has nothing to do at all with my experiences as a fgli student at an ivy league school lmaoo)
of course FDB is a shoo in legacy student and at first LLH is is incredibly annoyed bc FDB is clearly a rich kid who got in with his parents money
the name i picked for FDB is 择信 ("zéxìn" or "to choose faith"). his dad's name is 则仕 ("zéshì" literally "officer" the author is laugh at us so that zé didn't work, i picked another one to better fit my intention. same sound though.)
he's still called duobing as a nickname bc he was a sickly child, but fang zexin is what appears on official documents and his student id. of course his mom and his aunt still call him "xiaobao" and later on so does LLH
FDB abuses his "xiaohua" priviledges and when he extra wants something he'll pull out "xiaohua'er"
just them warming up to each other to deal with school stress. think of all the shenanigans!! i feel like 3am on a school campus is when you feel like you can do anything super well, even make empanadas when you've never made empanadas before (did i do this freshman year? yes.)
bonus: LXY has a phd in bio-med and is a famous researcher, but he's getting a herbology? nursing? (still deciding tbh) degree as LLH and passing it off as his first undergrad. he made a small fortune from his first go around so he can afford it, but i feel like he donated most of it and/or gave it to QMS + QP + SGD
yes i made LXY a genius progidy med student who got into college at 15 and wrangled a phd + patent at age 18. he's literally every asian parent's golden child wet dream. no wonder he disappeared and changed his name and only resurfaced 10 years later.
FDB is of course an engineering and business student (dual degree, our xiaobao is a champ) and he buys all the school swag cuz he has the spirit
bonus bonus: fdb is a professional college fencer lmaoo. do they have professional college martial arts?
bonus bonus li'er is a part of the family staff but the fang/he family pays handsomely so she's kinda uppity. she doesn't understand why her young master is hanging out with someone 1) obviously older and 2) obviously poorer
FDB of course falls in love at first sight bc LLH happens to be the most drop dead gorgeous person he's ever seen and reminds him vaguely of the researcher that helped with the cure to his childhood illness. surely there's no connection right..
FDB is 20 when he starts college bc he took a two year break to do an internship at his mother's company. it looks great on his resume and conveniently works well so i can line up canon ages
FDB finds out LLH is living in a van and immediately tries to move him into his dorm (freshman year). of course that doesn't work out, but i think around sophmore year, once they've started dating, he would've whittled down LLH enough for him to agree to live together in a house off-campus. LLH tries several times to convince the 20yo that he can do better than some old man who's just starting his undergrad at age 28 (my man breathes lies). FDB is literally signing their lease as he speaks.
bonus bonus bonus (and my fave): LLH makes those terrible tiktok recipes that never work but he keeps trying and the first couple of times FDB actually tries pretending that LLH's cooking is fantastic
bonus x4: DFS went to trade school and owns a handyman service (he makes bank doing it) and the jinyuan alliance is his crew of fixers. FDB is convinced DFS is a mob boss because LLH is always calling him Di 老大 (lǎo dà) when he comes around to fix LLH's rundown van. DFS gives LLH the i'm in love with u family discount but he'll never admit to it. the two of them have known each other since grade school.
bonus x5: DFS and LXY both did the same martial arts extracircular and were known rivals (affectionate) in those circles. they were constantly swapping between placing 1st and 2nd in tournaments.
bonus x5 extra bonus just for me: at one point LXY did call DFS "gege" before he grew out of it / they drifted a part. obvs they reconcillated bc LLH needed a van guy and DFS under all those scowls does care for LXY a lot.
bonus x6: LLH and JLQ absolutely know they are cousins (just bc it's hilarious for me if they do). they don't talk about it but JLQ hates him for "stealing" DFS's attention since their naptime days. he's her cousin timmy. LLH doesn't even know that he's seduced the love of her life, he's just vibing. DFS tries to explain to her that he's gay and has never been interested in women, but she doesn't believe in homosexuals exactly like in canon lmaoo
bonus x7: SGD and LXY were both in an orphanage before they got adopted by qi mushan and qin po. SGD protected LXY like an older brother, but got more bitter and jealous as LXY clearly displayed genius level academic excellence and as a by product got more attention (more care into selecting schools, more time dedicated to LXY's extracirculars, more time spent driving LXY to conferences and stuff as his research gained more traction)
can you imagine the pressure little xiangyi would've been put under to excel, and to excel bc he got this chance when all the other kids at the orphanage didn't? qi mushan and qin po weren't exacty rich, i imagine he must've felt so stressed being bombarded with scholarships and whatnot while his brother steadily closed himself off from xiangyi
nothing just imposter syndrome going off the charts when rumors started going around that a mistake in LXY's research cost someone their life. that no one should've trusted a teenager to be that smart. that some orphan kid just wanted attention and should've never been given a chance. it breaks him.
unintential pressure from qi mushan, qin po and SGD. why was he protected / saved / chosen if not to make their lives easier and to make them proud with his achivements. he's carrying his made-up expectations of their expectations and SGD's expectations
something something my dad was drunk one night and came on campus and told me i was the hope of our entire family bc i was the first to get into a good school and i could make something of myself. i was 18 at the time, same age as when LXY during his famous battle, and i just. feel some type of way. like. the man was carrying the expectations of the entire jianghu on his back. how was he not gonna be overwhelmed and break down?
bc this is a modern au i can make LXY go to therapy :) it takes a few years for him to be convinced to go (he is asian after all LOL), but he does go eventually and it helps him get the will to start again. FDB knows and actively encourages and praises LLH for taking care of himself.
LLH still carries the same self-hatred he has for his younger self bc he thinks his arrogance caused a mistake in his research and ended up causing ppl to die. he's working on it, okay, it's gonna take time
i'll end this with some crack: FDB accidentally hears DFS call LLH "xiangyi" and proceeds to give him an entire speech abt deadnames and such. it's bc he's seen LLH react to being called "xiangyi" before (come on, this guy was a prodigy and he's back at uni, some of the professors are bound to recognize him) and it's never pretty. he ends by saying "it's not like lianhua is running away from the law, he's not doing anything wrong" yes he thinks LLH is trans lmaoo. the entire time, DFS is giving him an incredious look. LXY was in fact running away from the law (or at least the press lmaoo). LLH is just standing there with an amused look on his face like "my xiaobao is a little confused, but he's got the spirit"

WIP Wednesday
It's somehow Wednesday again! Enjoy DFS and FDB trying to comfort LLH during a nightmare.
(You can find more excerpts here.)
A-Fei cut himself off, head whipping around to look at Li Lianhua. “Xiangyi?” All trace of the storm had vanished, leaving only worry in its wake.
Fang Duobing sat bolt upright. “What’s wrong?”
Li Lianhua’s hand twitched.
Huli Jing whined and shifted to drape herself across Li Lianhua’s knees.
“Where’s the incense?” a-Fei snapped, glancing frantically around the room.
“What?”
“Incense,” a-Fei bit out. “From the parcel. Find it. Now.”
Fang Duobing bit back his demand for details. “On it,” he said instead, yanking the parcel from his robe and tugging at the strings. Damn it, why had he tied them so tightly?
“Xiangyi, it’s alright,” a-Fei said, his gruff voice gentled. He tapped Li Lianhua’s pulse point repeatedly. “You’re in Lotus Tower. You’re safe. It’s time to wake up.”
A nightmare? He should have known. Of course a-Fei would have something for treating them, and of course he wouldn’t have wanted to talk about–
“–No,” Li Lianhua mumbled, “no, don’t–”
“You’re safe, Xiangyi,” a-Fei said more urgently, squeezing his wrist and giving it a shake. You’re free. Now stop fighting and open your eyes!”
Oh, shit, if he was dreaming of whatever happened earlier, and he tried to destroy his heart meridian again–
“–I can’t wake him up,” a-Fei hissed. “Hurry.”
“Understood.” Fuck it. Fang Duobing snapped the string in half and tore the packaging open. Dried herbs spilled on the ground like tears.
“Don’t do this,” Li Lianhua begged, his voice breaking.
“It’s not real,” a-Fei said, gripping his shoulder, “whatever you’re seeing, you already survived it. It can’t hurt you. Follow my voice and open your eyes.”
Duobing’s fingertips finally bumped something long and thin. “Found it,” he said, jumping to his feet. Fuck, where was the incense burner? He’d stowed it when he’d driven the Lotus Tower here, which meant it was–“The kitchen. Hang on, Xiaohua’er,” he said, sprinting to the front of the Lotus Tower.
Fuck fuck fuck. He yanked cabinet drawers open, feeling around the pots and pans, until–
“–I got it,” he called out, rushing back into the room, shoving the incense stick into the burner as he went.
A-Fei had shifted to his knees, his dao abandoned on the bed, and had one hand splayed over Xiaohua’s chest, preemptively radiating qi, and the other wrapped around his wrist, fingertips to pulse, hovering close to his lips. “Light it,” he snapped, not taking his eyes from Xiaohua. “Xiangyi,” he murmured, “Lianhua. Xiaohua. I’m here. Xiaobao’s here. No one else. We won’t let anyone hurt you again. It’s a dream, alright? Just a dream. Open your eyes.”
Fang Duobing shoved some clutter off the nightstand, slammed the burner in the newly cleared space, and fumbled in his robe for his flame stick.
Xiaohua thrashed wildly. “Stop! Please stop!”
Fang Duobing lit the incense, capped the flame stick, tossed it somewhere, and rushed to the bed. “It’s ready!” he said, holding it out to a-Fei.
“Bring it here,” a-Fei said, twisting to the side to make space while still keeping a hand on Xiaohua’s heart.
Fang Duobing sat on the edge of the bed, against Xiaohua’s hip, hovering the incense burner over Xiaohua’s chest, and tried to waft the fumes closer with his free hand. “Like this?”
“Let me go,” Xiaohua sobbed, “Please, Shiniang, let me go!!”
Wait, then the healer was his shiniang? Shit, of course, why hadn’t he thought of that before? That would explain everything–
–Why did a-Fei look like he’d just been stabbed?
“A-Fei?” he whispered.
A-Fei blinked, and the raw devastation on his face turned into cold, consuming rage. “She’s not here. We won’t let her hurt you again.”
Oh. Oh no.
“It’s ok, Xiaohua’er,” Fang Duobing said. “We won’t let anything happen to her.”
A-Fei shot him a look of such abject hatred Fang Duobing was vaguely surprised he didn’t gut him with his dao on the spot.
“Trust me,” Fang Duobing mouthed at him. “We won’t let her sacrifice herself for you. We promise.” He grabbed Xiaohua’s free hand and squeezed it. “You saved her, ok? You’re both safe. No one has to die. You’ve done enough. You can rest now, alright? Just breathe. That’s it. Nice, deep breaths.”
He stroked Xiaohua’s hand, keeping up a steady stream of encouraging murmurs, until the faint tremors coursing through his arms had stopped, until his breath evened out, until his face had once again gone slack with restful sleep.
Fang Duobing gave Xiaohua’s hand another squeeze, placed it carefully back on top of the blanket, and forced himself to release it. “Sleep well, Xiaohua’er,” he whispered, tucking a flyaway wisp of hair behind Xiaohua’s ear.
A-Fei hadn’t made a sound since Fang Duobing had started speaking, other than the rustle of fabric when he changed position, removed his hand from Li Lianhua’s chest, and slipped back into his earlier post in the corner.
Maybe his headache was acting up again?
A-Fei looked mostly normal: the dao was back on his lap, his legs were crossed, and he seemed to be meditating again. The only difference from earlier was that now he was holding Li Lianhua’s wrist in both hands, and his head was ever so slightly bowed over it.
He thought back on how gutted and horrified a-Fei had looked when Li Lianhua had shouted his Shiniang’s name. How furious he’d been when Duobing had promised to keep her safe.
There was no way he was as fine as he was pretending to be.

Sun Wukong Raids the Bottomless Pit (1983) 孙悟空大闹无底洞
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Director: Li Zexiang Screenwriter: Fang Xianglong Starring: Ding Bolu / Ding Bofu / Li Xiaohua / Han Fengyun / Zhan Hui / Yan Shuqi / Sun Aizhen / Shi Fengying / Xie Guangsheng / Zhu Lili / Zhang Wanfa / Huan Xuanhua / Li Shaowen Genre: Opera Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Language: Mandarin Chinese Also known as: 孫悟空大鬧無底洞 Type: Retelling
Summary:
The Golden Rat Demon led a group of demons to occupy the bottomless cave of Xiankong Mountain, and planned to capture Tang Monk, marry him first and then eat his flesh, in order to achieve immortality and become an immortal. The Golden Rat Demon seduced Tang Monk in every possible way, and then went to the hall to force him to marry. But Tang Monk was only thinking about the scriptures, and his Zen heart was not moved. The Golden Rat Demon finally became angry and wanted to cook and eat Tang Monk. When Sun Wukong came back from begging for food, he learned that his master was taken away by the demon again. He was very anxious and beat the mountain god with a stick. Only then did he know that his master was taken away by the Golden Rat Demon, the owner of the bottomless cave of Xiankong Mountain thousands of miles away.
He immediately led his junior brothers Bajie and Sha Seng to explore the cave. During the process of Wukong and Bajie looking for their master, Bajie was confused by the demon fire and was captured by the demon, and Wukong was almost destroyed by the thousand-jin gate. It turned out that the Golden Rat Demon had a red fire pill with boundless magic power, which made it difficult for Wukong and Bajie to deal with. Wukong had no choice but to ask for help from Guanyin of the South China Sea and got a treasure bottle. At the critical moment when the Golden Rat Demon ordered to cook and eat Tang Sanzang and Bajie, Wukong turned into a bee and went into the cave for the second time to save his master. Tang Sanzang and Bajie had no hope of survival, and the Golden Rat Demon was very proud. Sun Wukong showed his true form and accused the Golden Rat Demon of forcing Tang Sanzang to marry him, which had violated the heavenly law. He persuaded the Golden Rat Demon to change his mind and release his master.
The Golden Rat Demon relied on the Red Fire Pill to defeat Wukong again. Wukong was enraged and started killing again. He waved the golden hoop and swept through the monsters. Sha Seng and Bajie took the opportunity to save Tang Sanzang. The Golden Rat Demon knew that it was difficult to win with swords and weapons, so he once again offered the Red Fire Pill. In an instant, the whole cave was on fire and smoke was everywhere. When Bajie saw the fire, he pulled Sha Seng and ran away. Wukong offered the Guanyin treasure bottle in the fire, and the treasure bottle poured down from the air to release the huge waves of the East China Sea, which immediately extinguished the demon fire and drowned the monsters.
The Golden Rat Demon threw out two embroidered shoes and turned into his own image. The three golden rat monsters fought against Wukong, Bajie and Sha Seng, but were eventually suppressed by weapons. The golden rat monsters knelt down and begged for mercy, but Wukong swung his stick and beat them down. Guanyin came and asked Wukong to show mercy and hand over the golden rat monsters to her to be taken back to heaven for punishment. Wukong obeyed. Guanyin took the boy and the dragon girl to capture the golden rat monsters and returned to the South China Sea. Tang Monk and his three disciples once again embarked on the long journey to the West to obtain scriptures.

Für Speak Your Language Day 2024.
Do feed this to Google translate; it goes through quite smoothly, I checked. Only the nicknames aren't rendered consistently, but you will get who is who. Pointless MLC fluff with de-aged Liansanjiao.

Tales from Tianji Manor
Relationships: implied Fang Duobing/Di Feisheng/Li Lianhua
prev/final/read on ao3
Tumblr media
He Xiaohui saw this day coming, had been dreading the arrival of this day, inevitable as it was.
There had been countless letters slowly making their way to Tianji Manor once people caught wind of the fact that the Lotus Tower and its master had settled there for the winter, each one of them either seeking Li Lianhua’s advice, insight or help for their matters.
Xiaobao had dismissed them at first, responding to every letter with a polite acknowledgement and apology that Li Lianhua was down for the month with a mysterious illness and hence unable to attend to their matters for a period of time. But despite the polite refusals, letters kept pouring in, eventually amassing in a small corner of her office.
(A glaring reminder that her son and his partners would have to leave eventually. That they could not stay for an indefinite amount of time. That they had to make their own path in the world, too).
He Xiaohui is not foolish enough to think that they would be happy staying for an extended period of time, either.
She knew her own son well enough, and knew that he took after his biological mother.
Xiaobao was a free spirit, and had the same wanderlust in him. Li Lianhua was a wanderer, free as the wind. Di Feisheng had never been one to stay in one place for long. None of them could be tied down-they were each destined to travel the jianghu, with its miles of dazzling scenery that knew no bounds.
So it was no surprise when Xiaobao announced at dinner one night that they would be leaving in a week.
A week, He Xiaohui’s mind blanks. At least she had time to prepare.
“Are you sure you have the blankets packed? the herbs? Have you kept the food? Hulijing's items?” He Xiaohui asked, inspecting the bags in A-Fei’s arms, “aren't you one bag short? I packed six bags of food-”
“I have them,” Xiaobao announces from the second floor, where he had been putting away the supplies that she'd prepared for them.
He Xiaohui mentally runs through her list of items: the food, done. Blankets, done. Clothes-
“A-Li! Where are the winter clothes?” She stops the girl on her way back to the Manor, who gasps in realisation, immediately making a break for the Manor.
A-Fei looked a little overwhelmed from all the bustle, the countless servants hurrying to and fro from their Lotus Tower to the Manor, plying them with endless amounts of goods.
“Uh…thank you for your generosity,” Li Lianhua stumbles out of the Lotus Tower hesitantly, “but I don't think we can fit much more in here, Madam He.”
They had moved the Lotus Tower to their front gate, the poor horses straining under all the additional weight in the house.
Xiaobao looks around wistfully, his behaviour at odds with how excited he had been earlier at being able to spread his wings after months of rest, though she can see how he reigned it in for her sake.
“Silly boy, it's not as if I won't see you again,” He Xiaohui says gruffly, elbowing Xiaobao as she directs her next words to A-Fei and Xiaohua, “I'll see you every month for dinner, right?”
They nod, either not realising the trap they had just walked into, or not minding that they had agreed to return every month.
It had been livelier with the three oddballs in her Manor, a breath of fresh air to the otherwise stale estate, and she will miss them sorely.
“Take a walk with this old lady, Xiaobao,” she says, following the pebbled path towards their backyard.
“Mother,” Xiaobao starts, half a protest ready on his tongue, but follows her anyway, easily catching up to her in a few strides.
“So eager to leave already?” He Xiaohui tuts in disapproval, “your partners can wait a bit.”
They walk in silence for a bit, her Xiaobao waiting for her to speak.
“You are very lucky, Xiaobao," she pauses by the koi pond, the fishes making for a serene sight as they swim lazily, “to have met not one, but both of your soulmates in this lifetime.”
“But being together with them out there, out in the jianghu where they are widely known will be hard. Especially for A-Fei,” she continues, turning to watch Xiaobao as his initial confusion and indignance morphs into understanding, “don't forsake them when that time comes. I will personally break your legs if you do,”
She shushes Xiaobao's protests with a hand, “I won’t say anything more, every relationship is different. Just-” He Xiaohui pinches Xiaobao’s cheek, “Treat them well, you hear me?”
“Of course,” Xiaobao says solemnly, his eyes misting over as he pulls her into a hug.
He Xiaohui, He Xiaofeng, and Zhan Yunfei stand atop the steps to the entrance of Tianji Manor, watching the retreating back of the Lotus Tower.
“Well,” He Xiaofeng declares, clearing her throat, “We will see those brats again in a month. It’s not like they’re leaving forever.”
(“Two of those 'brats' are older than you,” Zhan Yunfei quietly says, side-eyeing her sister).

Pairing: Li Lianhua/Fang Duobing
Rating: T
Word Count: 4,119
Summary:
“Fang Xiaobao ah, Fang Xiaobao,” he said with a smile. “Do you know? The Xiaobao I know and care for is someone who, whether frail and sickly in a wheelchair or a strong young martial hero, is kind even to ants, even to corpses, even to enemies. Who has a heart large enough to cherish the world and all its creatures. That is the zhiji who knows and understands me best in this world. That is the man I treasure. And that would never change, no matter your physical state.”
For a moment, Fang Duobing just gazed at him, raw emotion welling in those lovely eyes that were always too expressive, and were at that moment suspiciously shiny.
“Li Xiaohua…” Fang Duobing gave a watery chuckle. “You really know how to make a guy's heart race, huh?”

An idea for you
We all know everyone loves to hug and cuddle MK
So what if as a baby/toddler young child when he's really upset with them his response is to ban them from hugs temporary.
Like he sees nezha and Mac arguing and being mean to each other. He chucks his toys at them and tells them to stop being mean and to hug and make up.
They refuse and his response is
Toddlermk: until you two hug and make up, you don't get hugs from me!
And they don't take it seriously of course, but sure enough for the next three days when they try to hug him he fights, bites and yells at them. And he doesn't believe them if they say they made up because he didn't see it.
Sooo eventually they have to make a show of apologizing and hugging it out to get MK to believe them.
Jia li holding a calm toddler xiaohua: what happened to you two?
Mac and nezha have bite marks and scratches on thier arms.
Nezha:xiaohua is upset that we had an argument and refuses to let us hold them till we make up.
Macaque:starlight-
Xiaohua: *blows a rasberry*
Nezha:we made up xiaohua now let your baba hold you before he starts crying.
Mac: I am not-
Xiaohua: I WANNA SEE IT
Mac and nezha: *eye twitch*
Mac without looking at nezha: I'm sorry nezha
Nezha not looking either :likewise.
Xiaohua: NOW HUG.
Mac and nezha internally groan. Hug and then xiaohua jumps from jias arms happily into Macaques while Jia is trying not to laugh her ass off and get in trouble with her boss.
Nezha: I am still your superior.
Jia: ppppffffttt-

You could tell me more about Baizhu from AGST! Anything I don't know yet.
Random fact dump about my boy.
If it wasn't obvious from his appearance in this form, the form of "Baizhu" is invented entirely by him, it doesn't exist, no one looked like that, this is a form he made himself.
Unlike the other ghost kings, the form of "White Snake" is completely unconnected to his body. Only Junfeng knows what his body looks like.
While San Lang has the most names of the cast (seven), Baizhu has the most nicknames (five). They all come from Junfeng.
Baizhu is the only character to explicitly state their sexuality. (Not with modern terms, within the time setting.) With most of the cast, you can interpret it from things, but Bai is the only one to make a definitive statement.
Bai has the most secrets surrounding his death. Every other character is either famed for their death (The General died to allow his army triumph and went down in history, for example) or we learn it in the story (Xie Lian, Lan Xiaohua, San Lang). Everything we know about Baizhu is at some point revealed to be a lie, some of which are even lies to his husband.
He has a little house in a village that he lives in and is considered a part of the village by everyone else despite them all acknowledging "this man that's clearly part snake in some way is very weird" because he's a doctor and kind to them all and they like that.

Yessss, Li Lianhua knew he didn't have much time left, so he tried to push Xiaobao away so hard. He had managed to not get close to anyone for 10 years. Then this determined brat came into his life and became so important to him, despite Li Lianhua's attempts not to allow it. Did you see the deleted scene where Li Lianhua is bedridden and Fang Duobing calls him "xiaohua" (little flower)? I was shocked! Such a cute pet name.
