Guys, queers. Specifically my fellow queers.
I work at a library. We do this thing where, every so often, we weed the collection. It hurts to see books go, but it's necessary to make sure there's room in the library for new materials.
I have seen so much support for the library in text, and I've seen folks pass around those beautiful "queer your library" flyers. Keep doing that. That's great. Nothing wrong with that. But you HAVE to turn your words into action. We MUST remember to actually go to our local organizations and libraries and actually, with our own fucking hands, interact with these materials we want to see more of.
My branch is medium-sized for a library, maybe a little small. We don't have as many materials as I'd like, but we have fundamentals. Tell me why, even with all the verbal support I've gotten from my local community for the library as a resource for our LGBT+ community, every single trans biography and a good chunk of our vaguely queer theory books were on the list. This isn't a scheme to take the books off the shelves, it isn't another bigoted American governmental push. The only thing we look at when we weed is how long it's been since the last time the item was checked out.
Three years.
No one in my community interacted in any meaningful way with the few books on trans life and history we physically had on the shelves for three fucking years.
I promise you the materials you want and need are there, but this isn't a horde. This isn't a static safety net. You have to use them. You MUST use them or, in the future, maybe in three years, they *won't* be there anymore.
This isn't a vague post, there's no one person I'm hinting at or calling out. I'm not even talking directly to anyone who's directly in my line of sight. I just want everyone to hear this. Big library, small library, whatever. Doesn't matter. Please, we cannot be losing our shelf visibility like this.

Seen someone say “I can’t die, I got graves to dance on that hasn’t been dug yet.” And honestly, that goes hard. We need to keep that energy.

Before I get back to fully posting normally I also want to put this out there,
If you live in the United States,
If you become a member of the Satanic Temple you are legally protected by your First Amendment right for "Freedom Of Religion" to your own bodily autonomy.
The Satanic Temple is legally recognized as a church by the IRS and the Federal Court System. The are in multiple lawsuits against states such as Texas, Idaho, Missouri, and Arkansas that are implementing strict abortion bans.
This Bodily Autonomy also includes LGBTQIA+ members and Transgender individuals seeking medical attention
You can contact them and they will fight for you and your rights to practice your religion
This link brings you to their RRR Campaign page for more information:
Signing up is free and you can easily find a congregation near you, and it's not exclusive to the US, but for what's currently happening in the US following the presidential election, I'm making this post for you. You're also able to purchase a membership card and certificate after you join but joining is completely free.
One's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone.

THE KIDS ONLINE SAFETY ACT IS DEAD.
It has been confirmed that Republicans have spiked KOSA and now KOSA is "dead-on-arrival' at the House, at least in its current state.
But this is not the end.
There are so many more bills that can do the same thing KOSA was planned to do. And also- KOSA will be back, probably by next year.
Nonetheless, I congratulate all of your efforts in this fight to protect fandom from being heavily censored and for things like mental help and sex education to be hidden from people in need. Take a moment to step back and breathe, but remember to continue fighting, ESPECIALLY when KOSA comes back.

to everyone who feels underrepresented, misrepresented or unrepresented; everyone who can’t express themselves, their gender and/or sexuality in a manner that feels comfortable to them; to everyone who experiences dysphoria, who is misgendered and deadnamed every day; to everyone who’s closeted because they’re not ready or they don’t feel safe; to everyone who’s flag isn’t on this post: I see you. You are loved!

Urgent News.
One of the largest threats to queer safety, especially queer youth on the internet, is the KOSA bill. It is effectively a censorship bill that will make access to the internet for queers, nigh impossible and constantly monitored.
Now of course the council's concerns may lie within the queer, but the bill will also affect pro-Palestinian messages, activism, truthful information, etc. It will make it difficult to look for sexual health information, information on Palestine, Sudan, the Congo, climate change, queer history, queer info in general.
It is a bill that the USA is going to use to effectively stop all the criticism against them, all the information on the genocides committed in the name of capital, and block out safe spaces for queers in and out of the closet.
And it is being discussed whether to have it added to the FAA. What does that mean? The FAA was the same way the Tiktok ban was passed so easily, a way for the US to pass bills without much resistance. So you might be thinking:
What is to be done?
Well for one, if you are a member of the council reading this, you are obligated to reblog this and spread the message far and wide. And we mean it. Whether through posters, posts, shouting, protests, whatever you can do, you must do. Even if you aren't a council member, morally you should still do it.
As evidently the internet is in jeopardy.
Other than that, sign these petitions, spread these links and urge others to do so. Call your representatives, email them, mail them, fax them. And again, urge others to do the same.
You don't need to be American to spread this or sign these. And you should care still even if you aren't American, as this will be a global effect if KOSA passes.

We must do anything and everything to keep the internet safe. For all.
So do not fall into despair that we will fail, and do not become complacent thinking we will win. Become active and make sure we win.
For in the dark we endure, and in the light we fight for who you call impure.

I know people were making memes about the situation but this is actually scary for the lgbtq community because what just happened will most certainly hand that man presidency now.
the shooter just made his chances of winning the election skyrocket.
this is real life. Trump will certainly be heavily protected and he’ll be fine, he’ll most likely win solely because of this incident. but queer and trans people won’t be protected and they will be the target of the hatred that has now been fueled by this incident. no matter who the shooter was, they will target us.
to all my queer and trans friends, please please please please look after yourselves and each other. please stay safe

non-trans queers NEED to give a fuck
I have been thinking a lot about this metaphor about collective security that my History and Theory of Genocide professor told us about in his class a bit ago lately. With everything that has happened to trans people in the past few weeks alone, seeing the reactions, or lack thereof of other queer people has been really gross and disheartening and angering. Basically the metaphor goes like this; picture you live in a place where you and everyone else around you has a beard. You walk outside one day and someone you see in public's beard has spontaneously combust into flames, maybe even a couple peoples beards are burning. He says that if you should choose to ignore this instance because it is "not your beard and not your peoblem" and choose not help to put it out "you had better go home and get a bucket of water and hold it under your chin, because soon your beard will be burning too.”
I have seen so many queer people with platforms who spend so much time talking about queer sexuality based topics turning a blind eye and not mentioning the full fledged erasure of trans history from STONEWALL, where trans people played an integral and VITAL role in our history and our path towards safety. A trans man was brutally tortured for over a month and then murdered by multiple men. Trans people and trans inclusive language are now excluded from all offical medical research documents. They cant even play sports, and so many people are spending more time talking about same sex marriage making its way back to the supreme court. Which IS scary and IS terrifying but i urge you all to hold yourselves accountable. Talk about what is happening to your friends who dont know. Tell your straight friends. Find protests and attend them if you can or a the very least make a concious effort to keep yourself educated and up to date on the struggles of our trans brothers and sisters, who fought with us for all we have won through the fight for equality.
Dont spend all your time waiting and worrying about when we are going to be on fire when your neighbors are already burning. Idk. Take care of your trans friends, check in on them, and use the litttle or large influence you have wether it be on some big social media plaftorm or just the influence you have on your friends, your ability to bring these topics up in your political and historical courses and in discussions with your classmates. None of us are going to be safe if some us arent. that is all.
