Anime of the day: Levius
Released: 2019
Arena warriors with cybernetically enhanced abilities vie for fame and money as civilization emerges from the ruins of war—or perish trying. The globe entered the Era of Rebirth in the 19th century, emerging from the destructive fires of war. The countries have become enthralled with the sport of mechanical martial arts. Fighters with cyber-augmentations convert their bodies into vicious fighting—and killing—machines and their blood into steam. Young Levius is one of those fighters that compete in arenas and are determined to win only to survive.

Fandom Saturday, Levius
Decided to watch this for Deo.
It was surprisingly good in my opinion. I was initially skeptical because it's boxing for robotic arms and people will choose to amputate them in order to fight, and, like, why?? But anyway, the main character, Levius, gives me a lot of Deshi vibes and Natalia lowkey gives me slight Stag vibes, which I always look for in an anime. 😅 And for being so short, it really pulls on the heartstrings at times. Not majorly so, but enough.
It's an alternate reality where machines run off of steam energy that is somehow bonded with blood. And what makes Levius different from all the other fighters is that even though he's undefeated, he purposely fights at a disadvantage, by choosing to keep his real arm.
One was lost during the war in which he was a civilian casualty, losing his father and his mother became comatose. He spends the show trying to find his purpose in life, the reason he fights. There's a certain desperation there and a will to live mixed in.
I really like the dynamics they play with, and the underlying battle between human and machine that they have going throughout the whole thing. And it looks really good for being cell shaded, in my opinion.
Anyway, it was good and worth watching, and it's short. Like this post!
Thanks for reading!
