2023 fic round-up
Total works: 26 plus two old fics I uploaded from 2004 and 2008, across 6 fandoms
Fics I started writing on the power of irresistible vibes hoping a cohesive plot would turn up and it did:
Banquets have burned for you - Haladriel, M, written for eastwynds for the Haladriel fic exchange. The second time I have leaned heavily on Aeschylus for fanfic (first was years ago for Battlestar Galactica which lends itself very well to Greek myth and tragedy, but it worked for Numenor too). I am slowly coming round to writing a sequel for this one next year some time.
Say it like the sunrise when it’s talking to the fog - Celeborn/Glorfindel, Silm-LOTR, written for @yletylyf for the Trick or Treat exchange. Saw the pairing on a pinch hit list and the vision struck me like some sort of revelation. This was so much fun to write!
Things I wrote this year that I would not have seen myself writing:
Longfic: Shadow-Bride, Haladriel, now at 30 chapters and nearly 170k words. I have always been a shorter fic person and haven’t done epics and I am so pleased this one’s still going fine. It’s helped to have the basic plot already planned while the space around that structure has let me develop it as it’s gone along. This fic is my beloved precious baby.
Mpreg: technically (because it’s a shapeshifting Sauron taking the form of Galadriel), in To hold all the promise of blue-velvet dark, TROP, Celeborn/Sauron. I am pleased with how much this one stayed ambiguous w/r/t whether Sauron was indeed doing this to get to Galadriel or whether he started off with that intent but just got more into it than he'd planned, one thing led to another, etc etc. I think probably the second one.
Favourite AO3 tag used this year:
'Sapir-Whorf hypothesis as a metaphor for the pain at the heart of your marriage' on Softest of Tongues, Silm-LOTR, Galadriel/Celeborn.
Things I couldn’t get enough of writing this year:
Noldor-Sindar drama. I just. It’s so compelling, and I think all? of the elf/elf pairings I’ve written use it as background somehow.
Celeborn/Sauron - like @liminal-zone I have gone fully off the deep end with this one. It’s been a speed run from “haha what if THIS crackship?” to “please be seated for the 57-slide Powerpoint presentation on how It All Makes Sense.” Started when I wrote a Twitter Haladriel promptfill where Sauron referred in passing to “your pretty Sindar prince” and, well, here we are.
Galadriel and Celeborn’s marriage: I have many thoughts about established relationships as fandom ships which are for another post, but, this one’s got a lot of intriguing hints in the canon plus Noldor-Sindar drama plus more ways to write about Galadriel so I am very into it now.
Trying to fit Celeborn into Rings of Power canon, which led to the whole series offics with half-Maia Celebrían being raised by a Celeborn who knows that and is a good dad to her while working through some things himself.
Individual bits I was really pleased with:
Description of Annatar, the only time I’ve written him: [Celeborn] thinks of tiny, whirring cogs, all turning in perfect precision; of fine metal filigrees making up each fibre of Annatar’s hair, of his skin as some kind of silk stapled into place at the seams. Rarer gifts than gold, Celeborn/Sauron, Silm.
Maedhros in my Third Kinslaying Elwing/Maedhros fic knowing how to do a double hip carry for baby twins: It would make every nightingale sing, Silmarillion.
Modern-day Sauron in Blood Sugar (Haladriel) having a print of Caravaggio’s ‘David with the head of Goliath’ on his wall - the painting in which Caravaggio, in exile and facing a death sentence for murder, painted the severed head with his own face as a gift to the cardinal who could grant him a pardon.
Sauron in Tar-Mairon of the Shire (TROP fluff) as the Lord of Gifts giving away presents on his birthday, Hobbit-style.
Strangest anon hate comment:
Among all the “ugh kys freak” comments which do get a bit repetitive after a while, the one that accused me of ‘pretending to be a multishipper’ stands out. Wut.
Fandom resolutions for 2024:
I’m staying away from goals around fic completion or targets because that doesn’t work for me. Instead, I’m making more of a conscious effort to write and enjoy the things I like the way I like them. This is a pretty basic fandom tenet and I shouldn’t need reminding, really, but sometimes in polarised, fighty corners of fandoms or places where there’s a lot of fanon it can feel like anything outside fandom norms will come across as starting discourse, and there’s nothing more stifling to writing and generally having fun in fandom than wondering “what’s it going to sound like I’m saying here?” all the time.
The other fics:
The Stars My Destination, Babylon 5. Bester thinks about the nature of death.
Life After Death, Alias - wrote this in 2008. found it in my old LJ archives and uploaded it this year.
When all the leaves are gold, Silmarillion, Galadriel/Celeborn. Everything is fine in Doriath. Everyone is happy in Doriath. No you can't leave.
All that Glitters, TROP sequel to that - where Celeborn has been for the past several centuries.
Civil Twilight, TROP, Haladriel and Galadriel/Celeborn, continuity fits with the previous two fics, I love this one and am so pleased with how well it worked.
Changeling, Silmarillion, Fourth-age Maglor. Wrote most of this in 2004 (it's old enough to vote!) and never finished or posted it because the Tolkien fandom used to be terrifying to me; finished and uploaded this year.
A green thought in a green shade, TROP Galadriel/Celeborn, another 'where has Celeborn been?' angle.
Made of sterner stuff, TROP, Disa, motherhood, ambition, dwarf culture.
So Wide a Sea, TROP Haladriel and Galadriel/Celeborn. Wrote this near the beginning of the year and then said afterwards that it was kind of fun to write Celeborn but I probably wouldn't be doing it again. [comedy trombone noise]
All the kinds of alive you can be, TROP, and it's Celeborn/Sauron but Sauron in the guise of Galadriel so - pairings are messy. I was playing around with doing a longer 'what if Sauron took the form of Celeborn' thing which I'd done a bit in Shadow-Bride and then thought "wait..."
I have loved flowers that fade, TROP, Haladriel, went in a bit heavy on the Athrabeth.
Suo Gân and Arda Sahta, TROP, baby half-Maia Celebrían being raised by Galadriel and Celeborn. I got so yelled at for writing these and at one point I had multiple anon hate comments on AO3 and people self-righteously condemning Those Haladriels on Twitter, which given it's G-rated fic about a baby which was all correctly tagged and not compulsory reading was I feel a bit of an overreaction.
As little might be thought, a followup to those with Celeborn talking to Elrond about fatherhood.
Weighed against our future, TROP. Haladriel 'missing scene on the road to Eregion' fic.
The turn of the tide, TROP, 4th-age Haladriel angst.
Though I sang in my chains like the sea, TROP, Haladriel, gapfiller for ep2 and their time on the raft.
And white winter, on its knees, TROP, little Haladriel 'what if she accepted the raft proposal' fic.

Honestly this analysis on this Tav was really good! It is an interesting perspective, and I think your idea of the self centerdness is really good one. When I wrote it, I was thinking like they (Tav and Gwen) had different priorities, but I really like the other layer you added to it!
Those poor servants indeed, they were already thinking they were gonna get beheaded (thankfully, Gwen wouldn’t let that happen). Also, loved the idea of some of them really thinking “oh this poor girl, Raphael tricked her or something”
If Gwen had legit tried to get away, he would absolutely be dragging her ass back, have the ceremony even if she was crying through everything, but thankfully that didn't happen. Also I laughed way too much at "because he is stupid, sentimental, weak, not really a devil just a pathetic little cambion, he is basically a human but even humans are not a disgusting half breed, he is just a wretch, a mistake, something not even a mother could love, and nothing will ever change this reality, not power, not the crown, not being the Archdevil Supreme, nothing, for he will always be just Raphael, Raphael who is not loved nor has been wanted by anyone, much less by himself, no matter how much he desperately and pathetically tries to pretend otherwise" 🤣🤣 i know this is probably supposed to be his inner monologue but it was just too funny imagining it was someone else saying it to him
Also, I had planned on making them have like an argument but i was like "y'know, i ain't got time for writing arguments, let's go for sel deprication instead". And yes, Raphael was very much like "is this bitch for real" when she started saying Tav "deserved" it more than her, i guess also because Gwen can be very insecure sometimes and considering how interested in Tav raphael originally was, poor girl let the anxiety get the best of her.
And yeah, I think he would be a little more okay with possible gossip because he already went through the whole ordeal of deposing Asmodeus, so everyone else would be like "yeah no, let him do what he wants man"
AND YES the reason he was scandalized with the color was very much because this is the hells, the dress code is blood red and black, but Gwen very much wanted to go with the traditional white dress route.
And legit, I had to put the power invested in me by raphael cause i was like "i can't just put any god here, this is hell there are no gods...and plus it would make sense hehehe"
The crown/tiara part was something that really only came to me the moment i wrote the scene so thank you very much!
Also, totally okay with the alias (i didn't really notice which one it was but i really do not mind). And yes, i could see like at least Avernus returning to it's former glory now that like blood war is over, and both of them are in charge
I think Tahlia's reaction would depend on how well Raphael acted if they had time to talk. Because like he is the guy that got rid of the devil that was bothering Tahlia and if he showed that he treated Gwen right, he would be very pleased by him, the title of archdevil supreme being just the bonus. I think because Raphael is a chamer and good at convincing people, he would find a way to get the mother's approval.
And if i write the sequel, i'll be sure to tag you!
The Runaway Bride
Raphael x OC (Gwendolyn Gray)
Summary: After accepting Raphael's proposal, it is finally time for the wedding. But what will happen when Gwendolyn starts to doubt herself?
This is the part two/continuation of Betrayer, so go read that first.
A/N: these two are definetly a couple i would come back to in the future, if anyone were interested. Anyways, have fun reading it!
I'm tagging @fiendish-appreciation because you liked the first part and showed interest in this so idk i thought i should tag you. Anyways, to the fic.
Read on AO3

If there was one thing Gwendolyn had dreamed of since she was a child, it was of having a big wedding ceremony. Like the ones she read about in books or the fairy tales her mother used to tell her before bed.
She used to fantasize about where she wanted it to happen, who would be present, and she’d even draw what she wanted the dress to look like.
Of course, things didn’t exactly turn out as a young Gwendolyn had once imagined. For one, she didn’t imagine her wedding would take place in the Hells. Or that hundreds of thousands of fiends would be in attendance. And she’d never believe that the groom would be the archdevil supreme himself.
But most importantly, when Gwendolyn imagined herself getting married, she’d always believed her mother would be there, to walk her down the isle and help guide her through the day.
She also thought her friends would be there. But Gwen guessed that that’s what killing your companions get. The ones she hadn’t betrayed, who weren’t there when the fight happened, had also left her. The only one who remained had been Scratch.
Since the moment she had woken up, on the day of the wedding, Gwendolyn had felt lonely.
After she had eaten breakfast alone, since according to tradition, the couple wasn’t supposed to see each other yet, the servants had drawn her a bath and helped her wash herself. Then they dressed her, fixed her hair and were now finalizing putting makeup on her.
Scratch was laying at her feet, and every moment she got, she would pet him. At some point, when the servant attending her had left momentarily, she whispered to him. “Oh Scratch… I feel so alone. I wish Mother was here.”
As Gwen looked at herself in the mirror, she felt a sudden sadness. She was supposed to be surrounded by friends and family, she was supposed to be laughing and having fun. Instead, she was feeling lonelier than she had in years.
Not only that, but Gwen had another fear, one she hadn’t told Raphael about. While he was still at least half devil, she was mortal. Although she had spent some time in the Hells alongside him, understanding how ruling worked, she still feared that his, soon to be hers, subjects would reject her.
“You look beautiful, mistress.” One of the servants spoke, taking her out of her own head. Gwen turned to look at her, a young elven woman, and nodded her head in thanks. “Something wrong, mistress? You seem kind of sad.”
Gwen shook her head. “It’s…nothing. Just wedding jitters.” She gave the servant a tight smile. The elf didn’t seem convinced but decided to drop the topic. She walked over to her mistress, veil in hand.
Before the item could be placed on Gwen’s head, the tiefling raised a hand. Wait. I have to go to relieve myself first.” She stood up from her chair, and various servants went after her, to hold her dress, but Gwen said “I’ll go alone.” She gathered her skirts and hurriedly left the room, Scratch following her.
As soon as she got out, Gwen looked around the hallway, and seeing nobody there, she opened up a portal. Before she walked into it, she turned to the dog. “Scratch, be a good boy and stay here. I’m just gonna go get some air and I’ll be back.” And then, she left.
…
Raphael’s day had gone as he had planned.
Everything was in order - the flowers, the music, the decoration - the guests had arrived on time and he looked great, having ordered a tailored garment for the occasion, shaved his beard and trimmed his hair.
Now, it was only a matter of time until the ceremony began. He waited in his room, sipping on wine. Everything was peaceful until Korilla burst into the room.
“We cannot find her.” The warlock said. Raphael raised an eyebrow and she explained. “I went to the mistress’ room, to bring her to the aisle, and when I got there, all her servants were saying she had gone missing.”
Raphael stood up, furious. “What? How come she left and nobody saw it?” Was his precious partner, the one who had betrayed her friends for him, running away? That couldn’t be. “Gather everyone. I want every corner of the Hells turned over until we find my runaway bride. In the meantime, go tell Mol to entertain the guests.” Korilla nodded and left to go after the others.
Raphael smashed the glass of wine he was holding. After everything they had gone through, she would dare leave him now, embarrassing him in front of his subjects?
No. He would not allow it. The wedding would happen, had she wanted to or not.
… Half an hour had passed, and he had no sight of where Gwendolyn could be. She had left no trace, whatsoever, and she was not to be found in any of the rooms she would normally be - the library, her room, the dining room or even the hellish gardens.
Raphael began to panic. How could a mortal such as she evade him in his own realm? He was so deep in thought, he hadn’t noticed Scratch’s presence until the dog licked his hand. He jumped back in surprise.
“Not now, Scratch.” He tried to shoo the dog away. Raphael had never liked dogs, but for Gwendolyn, he made an exception, considering how attached she was to him. He sighed and looked at the creature. “It seems that your owner has run away.”
At that, Scratch’s ears picked up and he wagged his tail. Then, he began to howl, almost as if he was trying to tell Raphael something. “What is it, boy? Would you happen to know where Gwendolyn is?” Scratch howled again and Raphael got an idea.
“Korilla, come quick.” He summoned the warlock. “I know where she is.”
…
Tahlia Gray had been buried in the gardens outside her home. To mark where she was, Gwendolyn had planted a couple of seeds of forget me nots, and although she hadn’t been there in years - as she was serving in the Hells as Raphael’s consort - the flowers had survived and were now in bloom.
Gwendolyn sat on the bench outside her home, the one that faced the flowers. Tears streamed down her face, as she spoke to herself. “I always thought this would be the happiest day of my life.” She sobbed. “Instead, I’m feeling more lonely than I ever could.” She walked towards the forget me nots and plucked one from the ground. “I wish you were here today, mama.”
Gwen stood there, clutching the delicate flower to her chest, when suddenly, a familiar voice spoke from behind her. “So this is where you’ve run off to.”
“Raphael.” She gasped as she turned around to face him, and immediately lowered her head.
“Gwendolyn.” He spoke, voice full of anger. “Are you trying to run away? To turn your back on me? You should know by now how foolish that is.” Raphael walked closer to her. “I will always come back to find you.”
“I…I didn’t mean to run away.” She said, quietly.
“Then what are you doing here?”
“I…” She turned her back to him. She didn’t want to admit to him how lonely and scared she was. “We’re not supposed to see each other yet. Mother always said it would bring bad luck.”
Raphael was about to reply when he heard her sob. At the mention of her mother, he began to piece together what could be happening.
“Gwen… tell me what is on your head.” He said in a softer voice. When she didn’t reply, he placed a hand on her shoulder, getting closer to her. “Please.”
That made the dam break. “I just feel so alone.” She turned around and looked up at him. Through her tear filled eyes, she could see how his gaze had softened. “This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life but everyone is dead. My mom is not here, she won’t get to walk me down the aisle or see me in a wedding dress.” Gwen stopped to sniffle.
“Tav, my friends and companions, they are gone and it’s all my fault. I don’t deserve to be here, getting married and becoming a wife to the Archdevil Supreme after all I’ve done
She took a deep breath. “And I’m so scared that I’m letting you, and all the other fiends down. Tav would have been a much better leader and consort than I ever will. They should be the ones having a happy life, not I!” Gwen put both of her hands in her face and cried.
Raphael’s eyes were furrowed. Although Gwen had expressed some guilt over what she had done years ago, but now he had realized the hole was much deeper. He wrapped his arms around her in a hug, allowing her to cry on his vest.
He caressed her head as he spoke. “Tav was an ungrateful, scheming, lying bastard who got what they deserve. They could have never reached your status. You have gotten where you are because you took destiny into your own hands and made your own path, that lead you to me.”
Raphael took her chin in his fingers and raised her head towards him. “Look at me. Tradition be damned. I would have not chosen you if you hadn’t proven yourself worthy every step of the way. I would not have come here, in the middle of nowhere to come and get my bride, if I didn’t think you were to be the one to rule besides me.” He looked at the flowers and then back at her.
“And even if your mother isn’t here today, you know how much she had loved you. You gave her the best years of her life.” Gwen nodded. “I’ll make this promise to you. As long as I live, you will never be alone.” Raphael finished his speech, grabbing both of her hands and kissing them, while looking at her mismatched eyes.
“Thank you.” Gwen finally said. “I’m sorry. I should have talked about this long before, and now I’ve ruined-”
He interrupted her. “You have ruined nothing, my dear.”
“But, you´re planning?” She looked at his vest.
He shook his head. “This day is as much about you as it is about me. Even if I’d prefer everything to be in order, exceptions can be made, especially if it is for you.”
“And your clothes…I messed them up, as I imagine my makeup is as well.”
“I am the King, my dear. I can magic those away.” He kissed her on the cheek. “Now, let us go. Your subjects wait for you.” Raphael offered his arm.
“Wait.” She turned around and grabbed a few more forget me nots. “This way mother will be with me.” Gwen smiled and took his arm, allowing themselves to return.
…
After cleaning themselves up, the ceremony proceeded with no more troubles.
Gwendolyn walked down the aisle alone with a bouquet of white roses, magnolias and forget me nots in hand. Her dress was grand and white, with golden embroidery. Raphael had protested due to the color, but they had come to an agreement - he could plan everything else as long as she chose how the dress would look like. A sheer white veil covered her face and Mol, who was now a young adult, was placed behind her, holding the train of the dress.
Once they reached the end, where Raphael was placed, Gwendolyn gave Mol the bouquet, and turned her attention towards him. He was quick to lift her veil up. Due to having no better person, Korilla had been chosen to officiate.
“Do you take this woman, Gwendolyn Gray, daughter of Tahlia Gray, the Hero of Baldur’s Gate, to be your wife?” Korilla said.
“I do.” Raphael answered with a smirk on his face, placing the ring on her finger.
“And do you take this man, Raphael, son of Mephistopheles, Archdevil Supreme, Lord of the Nine Hells, to be your husband.”
“I do.” Gwen smiled as she put the ring on his finger.
“Than I, Korilla Hearthflame, with the powers invested in me by Raphael, pronounce you husband and wife.”
Before the costumery kiss happened. Korilla had produced a cushion with a delicate tiara that much resembled the Crown of Karsus that Raphael wore.
He took the tiara in his hands. “Kneel.” He commanded and Gwen did so.
“With this, I make you not only my wife, but my consort, my partner, the one who will rule besides me, the one true Queen of the Nine Hells.” His voice boomed across the room. “Are you prepared to bear the burden of the crown?”
“Yes, my King.” She said. Then, she felt the tiara be placed on her head, and Raphael’s fingers lifted her face.
“Then rise, my Queen.” He offered his other hand and she grabbed it.
Once she stood up, Raphael pulled Gwendolyn close and kissed her on the mouth. With one hand on the back of her head and the other on her back, he dipped her as they kissed, which made her gasp, as the room erupted into cheers.
Later on, the newlyweds were sat beside a grand table, as guests appeared before them to grant their wishes and present them gifts.
Gwen looked around the room, how happy everyone seemed as they ate and danced. She looked her wedding ring, still not believing it had happened. And finally, she looked at Raphael, her husband.
She placed a hand on his wrist. “I want to thank you. For everything you’ve done for me.”
He put his glass down and smiled towards her. “It is I who should thank you. I would not be here today if it wasn't for your efforts.”
Gwendolyn smiled. “I love you.”
“And I you.” He replied, reaching forwards and kissing her delicately.

we’re in a class and i sit behind and all you ever do during the lessons is watch cat videos and youtube and it’s extremely distracting-Elucian C:
One Monday, at 9am, Elain Archeron took her seat in the lecture hall, pulling out her notebook and wide array of colorful pens. The professor was already at the front, setting up the projector. Everything was as it should be, as it had been for the previous weeks of the semester. Actually, it was better, because so far there wasn’t any–
A man with red hair took a seat in the row in front of her, and she let out a silent sigh. Since the beginning of the semester, her Plant Biology course had gone the same exact way: she arrived at roughly the same time as her professor, got prepared to take notes, then had her view partially obscured by a guy who did nothing but watch cat videos for the entire eighty minute lecture. She did her best to focus, but between his brightly colored hair and the constant movement from his laptop, she failed as often as she succeeded.
Today, she was determined to succeed.
She watched with hyper-focus as the professor began explaining the basics of photosynthesis. She already remembered all of this from high school, and her mind began to wander, until before she knew it, ten minutes of the lecture had passed with her watching cat videos over the guy’s shoulder.
No! she berated herself. Photosynthesis. The Calvin Cycle. She had already been forced to teach herself the names and responsibilities of each part of a plant because of him, and photosynthesis was much harder to understand. Summoning her courage, she reached forward and tapped him on the shoulder. “Excuse me?” she whispered.
He took out one earplug. “Yes?” he said as he turned around.
Elain’s mind blanked. He was gorgeous; his red hair complimented his eyes, one a beautiful russet, the other gold and made of glass, its presence at least partially explained by a scar spanning from above his eyebrow to down his cheek. And there had been a soft accent in his voice, a gentle lilt that she couldn’t identify. Irish? English? She would have to listen to him talk more to be able to tell. Was he a foreign exchange student? Or had he moved here when he was younger?
She realized several moments too late that he was still looking at her expectantly, and she hurried to cover her mistake. “Can you please stop playing those videos? They’re really distracting.”
He smirked. “I’m pretty sure I can use my laptop however I want, but thank you for asking.”
Something in her caught on fire. “Why would you sit in the second row of a four hundred person lecture hall just to watch cat videos? If that’s how you want to spend your class time, at least go sit in the back!” She sat back in her seat, breathing heavily from such a quiet conversation. Her sister’s lessons about standing up for herself must have been getting to her.
He blinked, cockiness gone. “I’m–sorry,” he said. English, she decided, then second guessed herself a moment later. He clicked out of the web browser and opened a word document, focusing on the professor for the rest of the lecture.
But for Elain, it was too late. Even if the cat videos were gone, she didn’t know how to focus knowing there was a male model sitting in front of her. A male model that she had just yelled at… insulted… ruined any chance with…

Born This Way, Baby
Pairing - Lewis Hamilton x Bisexual!British!Reader x Daniel Ricciardo
Word count - 2.3k
Content warning - Sexism, swearing.
Synopsis - As the first female driver in F1, you have to fight to prove you deserve your place in the paddock. But unable to keep quiet, you accidentally let slip a secret that could change your career forever.
Author’s note - This is very self indulgent as I just wanted to throw a little positivity out there for all my fellow queer F1 fans. Also, while this is in no way romantic or sexual, just kinda soft and sweet with a bit of flirting here and there, the upcoming sequel is pretty much just a very smutty threesome so keep your eyes peeled 👁👄👁.
P.S. apologies for making you British, It was just easier for me to write it that way lol
It’s not easy being a woman in a man’s world. From the moment you won your first competition as a kid, you knew you’d have to work twice as hard as everyone else for half the reward. But you didn’t care. You just wanted to be the best. So, on that fateful day the call came from Williams, asking you to take their second seat for the next season, you jumped at the chance. And there you were, the first woman ever to take an f1 seat in the history of the sport. And it felt amazing.
The media were in a total frenzy, with you plastered all over the front pages of newspapers and the trending pages of Twitter. Something along the lines of ‘is this allowed?’ And ‘this shouldn’t be allowed’ and ‘women are ruining the sanctity of formula one’ and whatever other bullshit the sexist pigs in the mainstream media were peddling. But that didn’t phase you. If anything, it only spurred you on. To prove them wrong, work your way up, and one day be the first woman to lift the championship trophy.
The summer break was fast approaching, and you had already become a fan favourite, known for your trademark wit, confidence and ambition. Your relationship with the other drivers was pretty solid too, giving just as good as you get with a little flirty banter thrown in there for good measure. This weekend was Silverstone, your home race, and your plan was to push hard and take your first points. Time to prove you’re not going down without a good fight.
You run your fingers through your hair, anxious sweat collecting at the nape of your neck. The press conference was usually one of your favourite things. A chance to talk to the media and the fans, answer some questions, both serious and stupid, and try to psyche out the other drivers to the best of your ability. Today was different, however, as the home press hadn’t been so kind to you over the past few months, calling you a gimmick, or a grab at attention and ‘woke points’ on behalf of your team. Total bullshit, of course, but that didn’t stop them.
You feel a tap on your shoulder and turn around, dropping your headphones so they hang around your neck. “You okay?” Lewis asks, offering you a small smile of reassurance. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine?” You respond, not sounding too sure of your statement. “Just be yourself.” He says, patting you on the shoulder. “Terrible advice.” You laugh, “have you met me?” Lewis laughs and you instantly feel a little better. All you have to do is be your regular, charming, funny self and they’ll be good to you, right? Lewis is called away by someone in a Mercedes team shirt, and you pull your headphones back over your ears which greet you with your favourite song. You wander over to the corner of the room, resting your head back against the wall and closing your eyes, just absorbing the music. Your phone buzzes and you fish it out of your pocket. A text from your closest friend on the team, James, just three words, ‘prove them wrong.’
A stressed looking woman in a headset ushers you all towards the door, and you take a deep breath, throwing your headphones down on a random chair. You steady your breathing, before heading into the room, the sound of camera shutters and chatter from the journalists fills the air, but you tune it out, thinking only of your own breathing. You take your seat between Lewis and Daniel, who you exchange smiles with before leaning back in your chair. Okay, (y/n), time to turn on the charm. Smile for the cameras.
Attention isn’t on you as the conference begins, but instead on Lewis and Lando, after all, it’s their home race too, and they were in with far more of a chance than you for the win this weekend. You bounce your leg unknowingly as a way to get out all the nervous energy becoming pent up within you, that is, until you hear your name and immediately snap back into the room. “(Y/n)?” The reporter asks. “Sorry, I was off in a world of my own just then.” You laugh, leaning forwards to reach the microphone. “That’s okay, I can understand you’re under a lot of pressure, your first home race and all.” The reporter says. “Yeah, just a little.” You say, gesturing your arms wide and the room chuckles. “Do you have a plan for this weekend? As of now you’re yet to score, so, any goals, targets?” “Points? Just one would be nice?” You laugh into the microphone, “At this rate I’d sell my left kidney for a tenth place finish.” The journalists chuckle and you smile at the crowd. Another reported steps forward with a question. “Your appointment to Williams this season came as a bit of a shock to the community, with a lot of people saying you’re only here as a token of diversity, what do you have to say about that?” “Well, it’s bullshit.” You say, “So far this season I’ve proved myself a strong opponent. My gender has nothing to do with my ability to perform. So anyone who says I’m just a diversity hire, or whatever, I’d like to see them get in a car and take me on. I guarantee I could beat them. Easy.” “That’s quite a claim.” The reporter sputters, and you scoff. “Then prove me wrong.” You say, sitting back in your seat and smirking to disguise the seething rage rising in your stomach. The other drivers chuckle, and the reporter suddenly becomes silent, taking his seat in the audience.
The reporters questions pass from being race-related into more personal chat. A few questions pass about Lewis’ dog, Daniel’s new merchandise, and some other things you aren’t really paying attention to. “A question for (y/n), if that’s okay?” A young female reporter asks, and you perk up. “What’s your favourite kind of music to listen to before a race?” She looks to you expectantly first, a light in her eyes anticipating your answer. “Ah, I have a good playlist I always listen to that really gets me in the mood. A bit of Britney, some Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Cupcakke, and Dire Straits. Of course.” You laugh. “Share that one with me, will ya?” Daniel asks. “Sure. It also doubles pretty well as a sex playlist,” You smirk. “We’ll have to test that one later,” he says, winking at you. “I’ll be in room 282, wearing one of your stupid new beanies and nothing else.” You flirt back, winking towards the audience. They laugh and the question moves on.
“This one comes from social media. Sonia asked, Daniel, what’s your favourite pick-up line?” “Ah that’s hard!” He grumbles, “I have so many good ones.” “Test your best one out on (y/n)” Lando shouts down the line. “Alright, alright,” he says, exhaling deeply, “hey (y/n), do you know what my shirt’s made of?” “High viscosity elastane?” You ask, and he pouts at you. You roll your eyes, “Alright, Daniel, what’s your shirt made from?” “Boyfriend material,” he says, pointing at himself with his thumbs. “Ah, it hurts” You say, clutching your chest dramatically, “It’s so cheesy!” “Alright then, Casanova, what’s your best line?” He chuckles. You clear your throat. “Hey Daniel, are you from Mississippi? Because you’re the only miss whose piss I sippy.” You collapse into laughter, and the other drivers join you. Daniel looks at you with a raised eyebrow. “Alright, fair enough, that one definitely works better on the ladies.” You laugh, but then pause as you realise what you just said.
There’s an echo of confusion across the audience, and a weedy looking man stands up to shout, “(y/n) is this you confirming the rumours that you’re a lesbian?” You sigh, throwing your head in your hands on the table. “Why can’t I keep my bloody mouth shut!” You shout at yourself, bringing your head back up to face the journalists. “This isn’t the time and place for this, guys, thanks.” Lewis says, breaking the tension. “It’s okay, I don’t mind, I was bound to open my big stupid mouth eventually, wasn’t I?” You say, leaning in to the microphone. “To address the rumours, I am not a lesbian. I like girls. I like guys. But really I just like people, y’know?” “So you’re bisexual?” Another man from the audience shouts up. “I tend not to use labels, but for the sake of print and Wikipedia or whatever, yeah lets go with that. I’m bisexual and born this way, baby. Now someone else answer a question before I start spilling more of my private information. I fear my credit card details will be next.” You laugh, sitting back in your chair and resting your head in your hands. Oh fuck.
The press conference ends without any further issue, and you head out into the waiting room with the other drivers. “Well, that was terrible.” You laugh. “When I said be yourself, I didn’t mean you had to come out in front of a bunch of journalists.” Lewis laughs and you grumble. “I told you it was terrible advice.” You groan, slapping yourself on the forehead, “I’m an idiot.” “I can’t help but feel kinda responsible.” Daniel says, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “Nah, it’s not your fault, I just have chronic foot-in-the-mouth disease.” You reassure him, “It could have been worse, they could have brought up the fact that my pick-up line was about drinking piss. Imagine the headlines, (y/n) admits to having a piss kink.” You laugh. “Yeah, that’s definitely worse.” Lewis says, and you all chuckle.
Race day arrives, with you qualifying in 8th position, your best start to date. A hybrid of bad luck and botched pit stops leaves you fighting for fourth place with two laps to go. “(Y/n) we currently have P4, keep fighting, be smart and we can finish well.” The voice from the radio calls. “Do I have permission to go for it? I wanna go for P3.” You shout through your headset. “Be smart about it.” The voice replies, and you grin. “Gotcha. P3 baby lets go.” You shout, your eyes fixed to the track you know like the back of your hand.
The finish line approaches, and only a tenth of a second separates you and the Red Bull in front. It’s now or never. You go for the move, and cross the line at almost the same moment as the car alongside you. “Did I get it? Did I do it?” You shout into the headset. “We’re just awaiting confirmation,” he pauses, “yes! You did it. P3, (y/n), P3!” “Fuck yeah!” You shout down the headset.
You pull into the paddock, and sliding your car into the P3 spot felt amazing. You detach your wheel and hop out of the car, jumping higher than you had ever done before. You remove your helmet and set your hair free, unfastening the tight braid and shaking your head to loosen the strands. Your team wait behind the barrier, and you launch yourself at them, screaming, shouting and hollering as loud as possible. You wander over to Lewis who you learned had comfortably taken P1 and wrap him in a tight hug. “You’ve more than proved them wrong, (y/n)” he whispers in your ear, and you grin. “Damn right I have” You respond, nudging him on the shoulder. “I got you something, well, actually, it was Daniel’s idea, but he didn’t think he’d be here to give it to you.” He says, as a member of his team from beyond the barrier tosses him a cellophane packet. He opens it and unfolds the material - pink, purple and blue. The colours of the bisexual flag. He wraps the flag around your shoulders and you grip it at your chest. “Thank you.” You say, giving him a cheeky wink. “Any time.” He responds.
You stand proudly on the podium, your flag still wrapped tightly around your shoulders as you receive the trophy. You feel so indescribably proud of yourself. No longer just the first female driver on the podium, but the first queer driver up there too. You had a lot to prove, and a whole new world of biases and fears to face, but in that moment it didn’t matter. As the music begins to play, you grab your champagne bottle from the floor beside you and give it a sturdy shake, immediately turning it on Lewis. He seemed to have had the same idea, as he begins to spray you relentlessly with the fizzy liquid. As the fizzing dies down, you take a deep swig, and Lewis throws his arm around you. “We should do this again.” He says. “Definitely, I could so get used to this.” You respond, before taking another gulp. You grin out to the audience and notice that among the sea of British flags are at least a dozen pride flags. You raise your flag up behind you and everyone cheers wildly, and you finally understand for the first time just why they call it pride.

stole all the air from my atmosphere
Read on ao3
Summary: Han Joonhwi thinks maybe pulling all-nighters wasn’t so bad after all, even when you’ve practically finished studying ages ago.
Rating: T
Word count: 1,577
Notes: Inspired by a poem by Timothy Joshua. And totally optional, but I recommend listening to this song while reading.
~
Hey, all. Thanks for waiting patiently for an update. This fic is in response specifically to a request I received here. I know a lot of people have been requesting for a sequel to ‘gave me no compasses, gave me no signs’ as well; truthfully, I’m not sure if this fic is in the same ‘universe’ as that one — all I can definitively say is that this still follows the canon. So, I’ll leave it up to you to decide if it’s the same timeline or not. I have a lot of fic ideas lined up for an “official” sequel, anyway. ;)
The Solhwi brain rot just gets more potent as we anticipate the new episodes — I absolutely love receiving plot ideas from all of you, and while it’s a challenge to interpret it in my own way, I still hope that it’s on par with your expectations. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments. You can send me a message anytime too! I know I say this often, but your continued support really really keeps me motivated to write. Would love to make new friends as well, if we can help it.
Okay, the note is getting too long now. As usual, the fic is under the cut, and all mistakes in this fic are mine. Enjoy!
~
There was that moment, when you stole all the air from my atmosphere; when my heart pounded within the might of all the planets.
It’s the third time Han Joonhwi has bit his tongue in the past ten minutes, attempting to stifle his oncoming yawns, trying not to cause any disturbance. He fights his drowsiness as best as he can, hoping that his companion wouldn’t notice — and yet, as his luck would have it, the moment he couldn’t hold it in any longer just so happened to be the exact same moment the person next to him lifted her nose from the book it was buried in.
Without looking at him, she flips another page. Tone commanding but masked with concern, Kang Sol mumbles, “Just go to bed already.”
So much for being lowkey, he thought. Joonhwi stretches himself awake, thinking of the perfect response: casual enough to make it look like he doesn’t care, but caring enough that she wouldn’t push him away. “Not until you’re done,” he finalizes.
Sol scoffs, tossing her pen lightly on the table. “You don’t even take this class.”
Well, of course he knew that. But Kang Sol A — truthfully, he prefers to omit the distinction: no matter how many Kang Sols there are in Korea, or hell, even in the entire world, he’s only got eyes for one — is not getting anything out of him. If getting Joonhwi to admit his true feelings was her goal, she’s far from reaching it.
“You know why I’m here,” he sidetracked.
Unconvinced, she turns to him with a provoking look, and Joonhwi already knows she’s about to go on a long-winded rant. “Yeah, yeah, I do,” she started. “You want to hang out with me but instead of just asking like a normal person, you make up this lame excuse about how I need to study even though I was already planning on doing that anyway. You practically finished studying ages ago so you just sitting there doing nothing is really rubbing salt in my wounds.”
He watches her with both his hands on his head, suppressing a smile. Finding an opening, Sol pushes his chest lightly. “I don’t need you here. Get out.”
She said it so weakly that he knows there’s no way she could have meant it. Making sure she doesn’t lose her balance, Joonhwi quickly takes hold of her wrists and gently places them back on the table. “You talk too much,” he breathed.
Sol purses her lips in annoyance and propped her chin up with her hand. “Yeah, well, that’s why you’re dating me,” she pouted.
If she keeps putting him in his place like this, he might actually have to walk out, but not for the reasons she’d expect him to, like his supposed exhaustion. Joonhwi knows Sol doesn’t do this on purpose, but she naturally has a way of making him flustered, and he’s trying really hard not to lose his cool right now.
She stomps her feet lightly on the ground, groaning. “This is too difficult,” she complains, leaning her head on Joonhwi’s shoulder.
Really, really hard.
It’s funny how Sol can say something one minute and then completely contradict it by the next. She says she doesn’t need him there, but clings onto him like her life depended on it. Not that Joonhwi was complaining — but he does want to have a little fun with her. He wanted to stir her a bit with something like, I thought you didn’t need me here? He knows she hates being called out for snappy remarks that she only ever means as a joke.
But a quick glance at Sol, in her favorite pajamas and one of Joonhwi’s sweaters, on the very rare occasions she has her hair down, bangs falling on her eyes, Joonhwi decided against it. Her vulnerability shouldn’t be treated with ridicule; it should be met with an equal amount of softness. After all, no one else but Joonhwi gets to see Sol like this — he finds that as a privilege which shouldn’t be taken for granted.
“Okay.” He gives in. “Let me have a look.”
Joonhwi holds his palm out to ask for the reading material, which, as usual, Sol rejects. “Didn’t we already talk about this?”
He feigns innocence. “Talk about what?”
Her head feels heavy on his shoulder. “I need to be able to stand on my own if I’m going to survive law school hell,” she reminds him. “You can’t keep coming to my rescue for every little inconvenience.”
“So this is just a minor setback?” Joonhwi teases. He couldn’t help it.
“No,” Sol cries, “it’s a major obstacle.”
She snuggles up against him, and Joonhwi could literally feel the heat rising to his face. Nonetheless, he lightly holds the side of her head for support and asks, “So what? Are you just going to give up?”
“Of course not,” she mumbles, her breath hot on his neck. Joonhwi knows the law well, but he feels like this should be illegal.
“But sometimes I wish I was just naturally smart like you.”
He lets out a soft sigh. Like many other things, the pair have talked about this before, and Joonhwi has never denied that he and many others have had a significant head start over Sol. But this is what he’d always tell her:
“If everyone in this school had half as much of your wit, every crime in the world would have been solved by now.”
To which she’d grimace and respond with, “Yeah, tell that to the F I got in Criminal Code.”
But tonight was different. Sol wasn’t coming from a place of defeat, she was saying this out of frustration. She was probably thinking that maybe, had her life choices been different, she would have had it easier. That maybe, had she been as lucky in wealth and opportunities as everyone else, she wouldn’t need to work twice as hard as them. So that maybe, like Joonhwi, she could just comfortably sit in silence with him and enjoy his company.
Right now, he’s treading murky waters and he’s afraid that one wrong move could give Sol the wrong idea. Joonhwi has never been the type to open up to people, but she never made it difficult for him to do so. With Sol, honesty was just the default. Telling her things he’d never entrust with anyone else came as easy as breathing.
He takes her hand and gingerly intertwines it with his own. “I didn’t have it easy at the beginning either,” he admits. “Law school wasn’t even a part of my plan, and yet here I am.”
This is at least one thing he knows Sol could empathize with. After being betrayed by the last person he’d ever expect to hurt him, Joonhwi’s life took a turn. To an extent, he was motivated by rage. But mostly, he was just trying to find a way to turn that pain into something useful, trying to make sure no one else has to go through what he did. And call him foolish for being too hopeful or optimistic, but he believes this is something he and Sol can do for each other. They’re two sides of the same coin: the law owes Sol an apology, and Joonhwi is coming to terms with the fact that he might never get one, ultimately being robbed of the opportunity after his uncle’s untimely death.
Joonhwi knows his words bear significant weight to Sol. There’s a lot of things he wants to say to her but right now he just settles with, “I think you’re smart enough. If anything, you need to stop going overboard. What if you get sick again?”
She lifts her head and stares at him with doe eyes.
“That’s why I’m here.” He raises their interlocked fingers to show to her. “Why do you think I’m holding your hand? It’s so I can pull you out from under when you’re drowning in all of this.”
Sol slowly breaks out into an endearing smile, trying to repress her laughter but failing. “Heol. Han Joonhwi, since when were you so sentimental?”
Joonhwi doesn’t know where this newfound bravery came from, but he kisses Sol on the forehead lightly. “Since you needed it.”
Sol blinks, her expression unreadable, and Joonhwi fears that he may have done the wrong thing. But much to his disbelief, she instead grabs him by the collar and closes the gap between her lips and his. They crash against one another in perfect rhythm, and Joonhwi mentally slaps himself for not doing this sooner. Never has he felt more at peace than at this very moment, which was ironic considering he was supposed to be the one doing the comforting. And yet, the lines blur when he realizes that even when their methods are vastly different, they’re at their best when they’re in tune with each other’s needs.
And right now, this is what he needs the most.
Much to Joonhwi’s dismay, Sol finally pulls away; they’re both out of breath.
Still in a daze, he musters up the courage to ask such a stupid question. In fact, he’s surprised he could even speak at all. “What was that for?”
“You’re not the only sentimental one here. If you’re going to kiss me, do it right.”
That was when I knew, you were worlds more, than just a first kiss.

Old School X is a project interviewing X-Files fanfic authors who were posting fic during the original run of the show. New interviews are posted every Tuesday.
Interview with tatooedlaura (Laura Sprys)
Laura has 28 fics at Gossamer, but the big treasure trove of her stories is at AO3, where she has 193 fics. Thank goodness for the richness of the X-Files and for talented, creative people like Laura who can find so many interesting ways to tell tales in the show’s universe. Big thanks to Laura for doing this interview.
Does it surprise you that people are still interested in reading your X-Files fanfics and others that were posted during the original run of the show (1993-2002)?
Maybe reading mine but reading older fic in general is something I still do and something I still find entertaining. I do wish i could get into my old fics and post a warning that some of those were written before the author: ever had a drink, ever had sex, ever had a boyfriend, ever lived on her own, ever had a real job, or ever experienced much of anything in the real world.
Then again, fanfic is a perfect time capsule for the age and it’s always fun to see where the originals started and how they’ve grown.
What do you think of when you think about your X-Files fandom experience? What did you take away from it?
Back in the day and up and through today, it has always been a fun experience. From it, I’ve learned to love writing. I’ve learned that fans are crazy, weird, wonderful, generous, talented, committed, passionate, and imaginative. In a fandom, you can think whatever you wish and write about anything you like and because I’ve been around so long, I’ve gotten to watch the storylines shift and the relationships change ...
Social media didn't really exist during the show's original run. How were you most involved with the X-Files online (atxc, message board, email mailing list, etc.)?
Originally, I never had much interaction with people other than ones who sent emails commenting on my fanfic … the internet at my parents house was dial-up and I had to access through the AOL free disks that arrived in the mail so, for the most part, I didn’t have the bandwidth or the connection speed to do more than upload stories and download episode guides.
Good lord, I remember submitting a story and having to wait upwards of two days to two weeks before the new batch of stories was posted ... then ephemeral came around and you could actually have your story up in under a day ... all ya'll who started on tumblr and ao3, you have it great, let me tell you :)
One thing that stands out in my mind still (and I’m still friends with her on Facebook) was a woman from western Canada who I stumbled across somewhere while looking for the blooper reels. She offered to send me her copies on VHS for my collection. I don’t think she asked for payment and one day, a package arrived from a lovely woman near Lethbridge, bloopers playable, tapes labeled in clear printing. I still appreciate that 20 some odd years later :)
What did you take away from your experience with X-Files fic or with the fandom in general?
Fandoms are crazy places. Tread lightly at first but enjoy what you want, ignore what you don’t, rewrite what you hate, and write what you love. Don’t be an asshole when you don’t agree with someone … when you do, tell them …
What was it that got you hooked on the X-Files as a show?
I was on board from the first episode. It was a show about two people who you felt were destined to be together but weren’t, and wouldn’t be for years. It was a cop show about aliens and a monster show with cops. I was in the right place at the right time in the right frame of mind and there was just something that clicked and I never looked back. Friends were not allowed to call me on Friday night and once it switched to Sunday, I made sure that my parents got us on early evening bowling league so we’d be home in time to watch. Even my boyfriend (eventual husband) knew to shut the hell up from 9-10pm, even if he was sitting next to me on the couch (with my parents in their chairs watching as well)
Also, my 56-year-old dad had a crush on Scully from the start so that was entertaining as hell as well
What got you involved with X-Files fanfic?
I have been writing stories in my head for literally as long as I can remember. Watching some episode, I honestly don’t remember which one, I suddenly had an idea for a story about Mulder and Scully. I had never written a story with pre-existing characters before and it was totally foreign to me. How do you write a character with a current storyline. It was weird, it was difficult, it was some of the most fun I’d had writing up to that point.
Suddenly, I didn’t have to explain or describe the characters, think of jobs and mundane things … they already had those … and it was great.
Honest-to-God, my first fic was written, in pencil, on a yellow legal pad by flashlight while lying with my head at the foot of my bed so I could see my parents coming down the hall if they happened to wake up at midnight to go to the bathroom. Later fics were written by the light of an 10” TV/VCR combo with me still lying with my head at the foot of the bed. I still have those old legal pads somewhere and I remember having to type them in secret, having to wait until the house was empty for 20 minutes to an hour at a time. Uploading them was always unnerving because of the slow dial-up and the fact that I didn’t have my own email address, but had to use my dad’s. I’d have to make sure to check it whenever I could, intercept the feedback I’d get off gossamer.
I was such a damn rebel.
What is your relationship like now to X-Files fandom?
Well, I now know how to interact with people given tumblr and AO3 but it hasn’t changed much. I contribute a little more now that I understand posting on social media but mostly, I still just write like a fiend and post, read voraciously and give kudos and likes often, comment some and reblog.
Were you involved with any fandoms after the X-Files? If so, what was it like compared to X-Files?
I dabbled and have a favorite ‘Fringe’ fic … I tried to read a Harry Potter fic once … I type ‘West Wing’ occasionally in ao3 and tumblr ...
And nothing, absolutely nothing, has ever caught me like the X-Files did in regards to the fandom experience.
I have shows I watch and re-watch and re-watch but no two characters have ever had me writing and thinking and planning like Mulder and Scully. No other combo has ever made me write upwards of 300,000 or more total and still have plenty of stories to tell.
I’m okay with this.
Who are some of your favorite fictional characters? Why?
Aside from Mulder and Scully and the gentlemen three of Frohike, Langley, and Byers … I love all Scully’s nieces and nephews in my ‘Life’ series … I also love Corduroy (picture books), Harold (purple crayon fame), Neville Longbottom, the characters from my own novels, Katniss (book not movie), Anne Shirley, Elnora (from the Limberlost), Will Stanton/Merriman/Barney/Jane from ‘Dark is Rising’ and 10,459 others …
I’m a children’s librarian so most of my favorite books are those written for the younger and YA crowd. I like my job :)
Do you ever still watch The X-Files or think about Mulder and Scully?
I watch this show all the damn time. I will think about Mulder and Scully when I have nothing else to think about, normally writing and editing whatever story I may have in the hopper at the time about them.
My husband laughs when I have the show on. He knows all the episodes with me and it’s one of my comfort shows that I don’t have to pay attention to when it’s on. During it, I have edited books, decorated cookies, been sick, been recovering, simply wasted a perfectly good day because I could.
My 17-year-old daughter keeps it on while she does homework and works out.
It’s a staple at our house and no one is allowed to make fun of it, even though we all know that parts are completely ‘make fun-able’
Do you ever still read X-Files fic? Fic in another fandom?
I read fic all the time … I have worked my way through AO3 starting from the beginning and if it was more easily readable on a phone, I’d work my way, once again, through gossamer.
Restated from above: I dabbled and have a favorite ‘Fringe’ fic … I tried to read a Harry Potter fic once … I type ‘West Wing’ occasionally in ao3 and tumblr ...
Do you have any favorite X-Files fanfic stories or authors?
I have all kinds of favorites on tumblr but right now, I honestly don’t remember most of the names … I pretty much read everything that comes through my dashboard and every few days, i read through the newest posts on AO3 … I love you all!!
What is your favorite of your own fics, X-Files and/or otherwise?
Of X-Files fics, I love my newer stuff … I read “Life” and its sequels every few months … ‘Your Place or Mine’ is another one I will read … actually, I’ll just say it .... I read all my own fic over and over again …
With fic, you get to write the characters as you want to see them and write situations that you want to see … I write for myself most of all and I love to read what I wrote :)
Do you think you'll ever write another X-Files story? Or dust off and post an oldie that for whatever reason never made it online?
I write them all the damn time. I have tons of snippets and half-finished that I occasionally glean things from but while sometimes, old stuff morphs into new, sometimes, it just needs to gather that dust and live a quiet little forgotten life in some backhand folder on my dropbox account ...
Do you still write fic now? Or other creative work?
First question is answered above.
As for other creative work, I have published two YA novels, have the third in that series in editing … I have five other novels in the hopper in various stages of ‘good lord this needs an edit or twelve’ …
I am writing things constantly in my head or on my laptop … most is crap … stome sticks … some turns into fic and some turns into books …
But the point is, I am writing, in some form, at all time :)
Where do you get ideas for stories?
Some two sentence conversation will spark an idea … the line of a song will inspire an idea … a word will start a sentence which will turn into a paragraph which will tumble straight into a story … and sometimes, stuff just pops in my head for no damn reason at all ...
What's the story behind your pen name?
On gossamer, I am L. Sprys because that was my name at the time :)
On tumblr and AO3, I’m tatooedlaura because my name is Laura and I have, now, six tattoos (yes, I spelled it wrong in my handle but that’s life) … when I decided on the name, I think I only had two
Do your friends and family know about your fic and, if so, what have been their reactions?
They do now … it took me years to crack and tell them … my husband has never read them, nor have any of the people I have told (as far as I know)
Now, I don’t really care who knows … I’ll tell them I write smutty X-Files fanfiction and family-friendly X-Files fanfiction …
I am too old at this point to be embarrassed by what I like to do. If they laugh at me, I tell them they only get to laugh when they’ve published a book and I pull up my books on Amazon … I’ve only had to do that once and it shut them right the hell up …
Is there a place online (tumblr, twitter, AO3, etc.) where people can find you and/or your stories now?
Gossamer: L. Sprys
Tumblr and AO3: tatooedlaura
Is there anything else you'd like to share with fans of X-Files fic?
I love you! I see you! I appreciate you! I hope you enjoy! Don’t judge me for my grammar issues! I will never be able to spell the word ‘excersize’!

List of my works
Saved By Deception
Description:
Mikasa is an independent, strong, and self-made successful woman. She is a force to be reckoned with in a field dominated by men.
What happens when she is held hostage by an arrogant, jerk who is the leader of one of the most dangerous and powerful gangs that exist?
Will she follow the orders of this chauvinist pig or will she make his life a living hell?
Comedy, drama, angst, smutty lemon, and a cat. This story is a wild crazy ride.
Author notes:
You don’t need to read or watch anything prior this book to understand the story. It’s mostly comedy, but there is also action, angst and smut. Topics I addressed here are feminism, the struggles of the LGBTQ community, PTSD, rape, and abuse of power.
Some reader’s reviews:
“I totally loved it from beginning to end!!! It was such an amazing rollercoaster! I was so invested in this story that I ended the hole thing in one day!! If you write and post the sequel, well... count me in!!! I wish I could give more kudos!!” - Avalon_Titania
“It took me a while for the story to settle down, to figure out what it means to me, and to finally comment here. But here we go. Reading this story was an amazing journey which gave me lots of joy, some tears and unaccountable amount of smiles. Now, thinking about it makes me feel warm and grateful that you shared this work with us. I love how freely you wrote about everything, how you broke various stereotypes, and spoke about the things that matter. All of this, while managing to make us laugh in every chapter! You are a truly amazing writer and I would gladly read the sequel if you decided to share it too.” - Not_Orange
“I just found out this story. I can’t believe I missed this. This is amazing 💐💐. I haven’t finished the story yet, I felt that I need to leave a comment first of how amazing and funny the story is. I can’t wait to finish this and omg the sequel. Sign me up for the sequel, needs more stories of them. It’s just, we haven’t got enough stories of them 🤧🤧.” - avaleen
“I LOVE your story! I adore the way you depicted the characters, how you mixed fun and dark themes, and most of all, I really enjoyed the way you included some schooling on the feminist cause, sexual abuse and the psychology behind it. It was very well done! I can’t wait to read the following story! I found a few grammatical mistakes here and there and sometimes, the way you build your sentences could need to be a little lighter but overall, nothing that really disturbs the story. Thank you for writing this, this is probably my favorite Rivamika story. Keep up with the good work!” - Valkorian

The power of death
Description:
Mikasa is a woman suffering from clinical depression. There is one thing that she is sure of: she wants to die. But when she received some unexpected news that makes her death wish a reality, she starts to wonder if that was really what she wanted. She starts a journey to discover the truth about her biological parents that gave her up for adoption when she was a baby. This journey will guide her to cross paths with someone as broken as her, someone that hates her to death for what her biological family did to him. Will she have the courage to, for once, fight to live? or will she let him drag her to hell with him?
Author notes:
You don’t need to read or watch anything prior this book to understand the story. Topics I discuss here are depression, anxiety, anti-depressants, racism, genocide, LGBTQ, terminal disease, racial trauma, euthanasia, adoption. It has comedy and smut but is mostly angst oriented.
Some reader’s reviews:
“Why am I suddenly crying?!? I will always remember this story... I loved every single character of it, both with their funny and dark sides. Because that's life sometimes... 🎭 Thank you author for this beautifully written story!! I already miss it “ - Levi_is_a_dilf
“Dude this book was great, not to mention all of your books are! Always so well thought out & planned. The fact that some chapters if not all were hours long really shows how great of a creator & genius you are as well! Anyways can't wait to read this again once my forgetful brain has erased my memory of the whole plot.😅” - lolzleigh
“The most beautiful conclusion to one of my fave stories!!! I'm honestly so moved and proud of the message you wanted to transmit there. The last phrase sums it up , to never give up easily because of a difficulty. A bad day doesn't indicate a bad life. Thank you author for your hard work, I'm looking forward to your next story!! 💪🏻🧡” - Leyla
“ Loved it!!!! You have such a beautiful smart and unique way of writing, I love the way you express their personalities including their silly moments Please don’t stop writing I love your stories and I’ll be looking forward for your next work!!” - Fiorylita

Twisted Fate
Description:
Eren and Levi share a secret about Mikasa's past. Mikasa confesses her feelings to Eren, only to be rejected. After watching her almost die, Eren realizes he has feelings for her, but she has already moved on to Levilandia.
"I thought they hated each other"
Before losing hope he thinks that maybe... if he tells Mikasa who the captain really is... he might have a chance, or fuck it up?
Is the Ackerman bond stronger than a lifetime of memories together?
Jealousy, drama, a shared secret, and Titans, what could possibly go wrong?
Author notes:
Everything needed to understand the story from ‘Attack on Titan’ is added in the story already. Optional reading or watching of ‘Attack on Titan’ anime if more information about the general universe is desired. It’s a comedy but also has angst and smut. Topics I addressed here is the difference between a healthy and a toxic relationship.
Some reader’s reviews:
“Omg this is by far one of the best stories I’ve read!! You’ve done such an amazing job at capturing the characters!! I’d love to see a continuation of this story or just more rivamika” - mori87
“So I binge-read this fic and devoured it in half a day reading between breaks at work and on the way home till I'm done right now just before midnight -in my time zone anyway- and BOY THAT WAS SOME FIC!!! It had me laughing so hard at times and holding my breath waiting for what's to come at times. I loved the way you portrayed Levi here. This arrogant, annoying, funny, caring fighter and leader and the way you made Mikasa an even more bad-ass warrior. Looking forward to reading more of you.” - Marwa_Aslaa3
“ Thank you so much for this amazing story! I read the whole story in one sitting and I can't remember when was the last time I was so happy about something. It made me smile and giggle the whole day, it made me feel warm. You are a true hero and have the ability to give magic to the sentences you write”- Not_Orange

How to be happy
Description:
What would happen if Mikasa was pulled out of her universe into ours after Eren saved her? What would happen when Levi is pulled out of the rumbling straight into Mikasa's apartment in our world?
Author notes:
It is necessary to read or watch ‘Attack on Titan’ prior this book to be able to understand the story. This one can be said that is half canon verse half Alternate Universe since Levi jumps to our universe straight from the rumbling. This is one shot I did for Rivamika week. It’s mostly fluff and a little comedy.
Some reader’s reviews:
“ What can I say? It's perfect as always ((X You really are talented in writing so I hope you'll keep doing that in the future! I think we (rivamika peeps) all agree to say that you're a special someone in this community (as well as our Dildo Queen, this one may be my own thought though^^) (Saved by Deception story reference) I'm glad you participated in this event because this one-shot was wonderful, inventive and fun to read! (this will be a VERY long post)
✨Time to criticize Yashahime ✨
First of all:
I will only criticize the writing aspects, so don't expect me to say anything about the animation since I barely know about that stuff
Because of this I also won't address anything of Sessrin or the discontent because of Moroha's and Inukag's separation because that's more of a fandom thing
And this is only the opinion of someone who isn't any kind of expert in writing or something like that
Uff, Yashahime finally ended and it was... Interesting.
So let's criticize it :)
So first of all let's tell the ✨the good things✨ because even if there are more bad things, infact there are very little good things, we have to give credit where credit is due.
Good things :D
The girls' originality
Something that I saw other fandoms have complained in their own "next generation sequel" (like in boruto) is that the kids were just a "copy paste" of their parents, and when Yashahime was just announced I saw the same concerns (specially with Setsuna and Moroha)
But in the end I think any of them ended up being just female Inuyasha/Sesshomaru, and all were able to be their very own character.
Half of their relationship
Ok, I'm specifying that only half because sometimes the twins would be a little unfair with Moroha, but then be her "new family"(?), But then they proceed to leave her behind, and then AGAIN being like bff's so there is no consistency.
But in the first episodes Sunrise got it right and we could see a pretty good and functional dynamic between the 3 that was consistent and made sense.
Each one had a defined role that worked, Towa was the "moral" one, Setsuna the "cold" one who took more drastic decisions, and Moroha intervenes mediating both and brings information that may help please both sides. (At the beginning)
Moroha
I'M SORRY, I'm sorry, I can't help it, it's just that she has so much charm and is so lovely and innocent. And you can totally ignore the fact that she's InuKag's daughter and still love her just because her personality brings so much to the story.
It's such a shame that they didn't really use all her potential but I'll get to that later.
Aaaand that's all ;-;
Now let's go to the interesting part...
The bad things D:<
Towa
This point I actually want to explore it further in another post, because there's a lot I want to talk about her to specify what exactly went wrong and how I would have managed her but here I will leave it simple.
Towa in any way possible wasn't properly used, and even if almost every character suffered of bad writing, she was the most affected one.
She honestly isn't interesting, everything that could have been done with her according to her backstory was completely wasted, because even if she was the one with the least tragic story, there was a lot to work with (I mean, just look at Kagome's case and still most of the fandom loved her)
She kept changing her personality and ideology according to what the story needed, and at some point her only trait was "Setsuna's protective older sister"
And don't even get me started with how overpowered she is without any kind of training (I get she knows how to fight with bullies, but clearly that isn't the same as fighting demons with demonic energy)
Phasing
When people argue if the phasing is too fast or too slow, I think it's both, but in the worst way possible.
They waste so much time in scenes that aren't really that necessary or could be much shorter, and rush at incredible speed things that should actually be worked slowly and carefully.
The fights
I only can remember two or three that I actually liked because most of them were just exchanging hits with the sword, sometimes an special movement and that's all.
Half of the battles didn't affect the story in the least, and the worst of all was how the villains were defeated wether because they were lame as fuck or because Towa's random power up appeared out of nowhere.
Meanwhile in Inuyasha even if we didn't always had the best fights of all anime, we did get some pretty interesting choreographies and some villains really had an impact on the characters in a natural way.
Talking about villains...
Naraku is laughing from his grave
You know? I'm not a Naraku fan, but he was a bastard that you loved to hate, he maybe wasn't the most powerful character when we talk purely about his strength, but he was intelligent as fuck, he was always one step ahead, he had some pretty interesting abilities and plans, with him he brought other AMAZING villains (or anti heroes) like Kagura, Kanna, Hakudoshi, the weird baby, or even Sesshomaru back at the beginning, and the best part was how he was written being a complex character (like when he struggled with his human feelings for Kikyo)
But on the other hand we have Kirinmaru, Zero, the four losers (I mean, perils), probably my boy Riku, and who knows what other random villains.
First of all, ONLY RIKU would be a good villain (maybe I should have put him in the good things ;-;)
But then we have the four perils who, out of them the only one who seemed to know what he was doing was the green guy that did weird witchcraft, but the rest? They are just randomly bothering people because they have nothing else to do and honestly they didn't seem to be that powerful.
I'm not sure about Kirinmaru because I don't see anything clear with him, I mean, I'm not even sure if he's a villain.
And Zero... *Sighs*
I don't get what the hell she's trying to do. Anything that she does makes sense. She's just alive because of Riku, without him she can't do anything.
Like seriously, half of the world was after Naraku's ass, even his allies, and still he could get away with it. Zero can't even get her army in order to take care of 3 fourteen years old girls.
(Sorry for letting myself go with this one ;-;)
Not using half of your characters
I guess the best example is Moroha because even with an interesting backstory, mysterious abilities, and most of the fandom's love, they just used her as comedic relief for most of the series instead of developing her character or explaining better her spiritual abilities or Beniyasha.
And not only her, Hisui and the rest of the demon slayers were more of a background character. For example, in Hisui's episode we should have gotten to meet him, Gyokuto, and Kin'u better, but they preferred to focus in the twins AGAIN and not work the MirSan family. (Guys, first season and I still can't tell Hisui's definitive personality)
Same Takechiyo, Kyubi, Yawaragi, Kohaku, the villains, some past characters, sometimes even Riku. Basically every character who isn't Towa and Setsuna are walking tools for them to use whenever the plot needs it.
And no, I'm not saying "The twins shouldn't be the protagonists", a I'm saying "SIDE CHARACTERS AREN'T JUST PLOT DEVICES, THEY ALSO DESERVE DEFINED PERSONALITIES AND CHARACTER ARCS TO MAKE THE WORLD RICHER, OTHERWISE IT FEELS LIKE THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND THE PROTAGONISTS"
Inuyasha knew when and how to dedicate an episode to a character, Yashahime doesn't.
Lack of character development
No one, except for Setsuna who is learning to rely and trust more on the girls, has any kind of development (sorry Moroha (・ัω・ั)).
I see Towa exactly the same as in the first episode, and because of how they've barely put attention to Moroha, she has barely shown any growth as well.
And I guess Hisui learnt how to trust his dad, but again, I can barely tell which is his personality, and the rest are background characters.
Powers / Abilities / Weapons
Here they neither explained ANY of the characters abilities properly or made them more powerful making sense.
Towa, just randomly learnt how to concentrate her demon energy in a sword and just keeps getting new abilities without training, and any of them seem to have any effect on Towa like (idk) having the risk of running out of energy. And at the beginning I liked how she struggled with her other demon abilities like smelling things but then they just forgot ;-;.
Setsuna's stick just produces wind and lasers without explanation, and her sealed power doesn't really work naturally.
And Moroha... EXPLAIN BENIYASHA BETTER. SAME FOR THE SPIRITUAL POWERS, that was supposed to be impossible!!! And again they recognized that at the very beginning, why did they forgot about it later???
There barely has been any "world" expansion
Something that Inuyasha never really got into was the "demon society", because with the exception of some tribes they never mentioned anything related to that BUT...
With that thing of Inu no Taisho and Kirinmaru apparently being "royalty" I thought they would talk more about that "Demon hierarchy" or if "Setsuna's courage trial" was something like a demon tradition (damn, that was honestly pretty interesting) but NO.
The topic has been barely mentioned and let's keep saying over and over again what the audience already knows for 24 episodes.
Weird Exposition
The way they threw information at us was pretty weird, like it didn't feel "organic" because instead of the girls getting into whatever situation where "x" character tells them certain things because it is related to what is happening, again, they chose pretty weird ways.
There were like 1,000 different options to tell us what happened to InuKag and Sesshomaru and all of them, like the girls talking with Myoga or Kaede...
BUT THEY CHOSE TO BREAK THE FOURTH WALL.
Comedy
I'm not saying Moroha is a bad comedy relief, she actually came with many good jokes, but you can't leave only ONE character to take care of the comedy. Towa and Setsuna also came with some good funny moments, so why would they only reduce the comedy to Moroha????
(In Inuyasha EVERYONE gave amazing comedy moments, even Sesshomaru)
And the worst part is that they only use the same joke with her most of the time! Losing her bounty and being poor.
"Atmosphere" (?)
I Promise I don't want to sound pretentious with this one ;-;
Those scenes where we were supposed to feel sad because of someone's death, intimidated because Kirinmaru appeared or excited because of a fight didn't work out.
I don't know exactly why but I think that it is because of a combination of lazy animation, bad selection of soundtrack, weird dialogue and the characters' lack of reaction.
So now that I think I've said all the points that they got wrong, let's get to the conclusion.
They stablished side plots or mysteries everywhere and didn't really do anything with them.
The girls never advanced with the story, they just kept running in circles around the same point during 24 episodes. (And no matter how long or short a story is, you can NEVER do that or you'll lose the audience's attention).
And with or without a second season, they made terrible mistakes that won't be able to be fixed. If it is only one season, TERRIBLE, they left way to much things uncovered, and if they plan another season, ALSO TERRIBLE, they rushed essential things and if they work them again they'll repeat one of their biggest mistakes.
And honestly I really tried to love this sequel, almost up to episode 12 I really tried to appreciate the small good things but they just kept slapping me with disappointment every single episode, and if they release a second season, I'll watch it but this time only expecting the worst of it.
In resume, yo can only truly enjoy Yashahime if you completely turn off your critical sense, and expecting nothing from it, otherwise you'll only keep asking yourself "why?"

how did you get into writing fic? i'd love to start but idk even where to begin! I loved adats so I was wondering do you have any advice?
Oh my goodness! I am so flattered you’ve asked me this. Yes, I can absolutely help. I’ll throw a bunch of rambling under the cut.
I started writing fic probably when I was... sixteen years old? A lot of my early works were oneshots. I couldn’t figure out how to do anything plot heavy for the life of me, so I just stuck to AUs or whatever I felt like. I wasn’t in any particular fandom -- I really wrote whatever I had ideas for. I remember I tried once to do a plot-heavy story and I received a review absolutely ripping it to shreds. Like, it was so cruel I cried lol. I ended up deleting the fic. Years later, I get what they were trying to say (basically, more substance, less style), but at the time it cut to the quick. Really, it was only when I was in my twenties that I started writing work that was longer and/or better.
The fandom that helped me actually write plot heavy work was a historical-based fandom. As I’m a historian, it was perfect. I got to use my research skills and knowledge to create works that, above all, aimed to feel authentic. I mainly read historical fiction, so I was familiar with how that genre worked. Miraculously, people loved my work. I think I wrote about ~200k in the period of a year? These were several short stories (20-40k) and a few oneshot filler fics. While I was part of this fandom I also helped organise a Big Bang which was a lot of hard work but was extremely rewarding. Along with that, I interacted mainly with other fic writers, so I spent a lot of time chatting to people about ideas and encouraging other writers, and it just created a lovely medley where no concept was impossible or any line of dialogue too difficult. We supported each other and it was truly like a little commune. I gradually stepped away from the fandom mainly because it was just a part of my life at a very specific time, and almost as soon as that time was over, my love for that story/ship faded, but I firmly believe I figured out a lot of how/what I do now purely through that experience.
Regarding ADATS
With ADATS, it stemmed entirely from wanting to “explain” three months in canon (at the end of season three). I was interested in the idea of season four setting up Will/Mike in canon, and I wanted to test the source material to see if I could draw from what already existed to create something authentic. I began with that simple idea: what happened from July to October in 1985? Then I thought about the major themes I wanted to hit -- family, friendship, coming of age, sexuality -- and I nested them around the bigger concept: how do I get Mike from being ostensibly straight to realising he is gay? That meant thinking of two steps: Mike discovering his attraction to guys; Mike discovering his attraction to Will. Those two concepts were separate “arcs” that needed addressing in different ways. Balance was key to weaving them together and making the reader feel like they knew what was coming (and that they felt smart for putting the pieces together) without just rushing through and going “now kiss!” That’s partly why ADATS needs a sequel, lol: because it’s not finished!
Writing process
The first thing I do when I start to get an idea is I write it down. Sounds obvious. But when you have a killer line of dialogue come to you in the shower and you think “I’ll remember that” -- reader, you will not remember it. You gotta get it down ASAP! I do that the whole way through, as generally I’ll be thinking of scenes I’m stuck on and then it’ll just come to me and I’ll quickly jot it down.
The next thing -- or what I do in the meantime -- is start structuring. I plan. I try to plan a lot. Sometimes it’s okay to write “and something happens here to get them here”, because you’ll figure it out later, but for the most part I’ve discovered that planning is like gold and you can’t get enough of it. I break my work up into generally 3-4 parts/sections, and I treat each section like a mini story. So each part needs a conflict and resolution, and it needs to flow into the next section. You need to have a feeling of things evolving and maturing. Once I’ve planned those little bits, I start thinking about the bigger plot arc and how I can drop in hints along the way. I’m probably not a subtle or skilled enough writer to yet pull off that sort of gasping twist you get in really excellent books, but I’m trying to get there. It’s hard, is what I’m trying to say, but that’s okay, because we’re all learning.
Then I generally do aesthetic stuff. Sounds stupid, probably. But nothing helps me get more into a mood than doing a Pinterest board or -- most of all -- making a Spotify mix. I start thinking about the vibe and the general atmosphere, and then I almost exclusively listen to that mix when I’m working. Sort of like muscle memory? Just to get the creative juices associated with that particular selection of songs.
Another thing I’ll do along with plot structure is character structure. This is a biggie. I mean, a story is nothing without characters. So I’ll just jot down a bunch of bullet points of characters and particular aspects that I want to highlight or remember. I hate continuity errors in fiction. Like, if someone says they work on Maple Street but later in the fic they’re working on Pine Street. I hate that. So I keep note of specific things that my main character might notice at repeated points in the story (colours, places, smells, names, sounds -- so they’re all consistent even as the narrative evolves). That’s another thing -- your characters’ motivations. Not everyone is going to be a huge player, but they all do serve a purpose. The most important character is obviously your main character. I personally think it’s important to let your M.C. be an arse at times. They’re going to be mean, they’re going to misinterpret things or fly off the handle... just let ‘em. Let them be wretched humans, and then bring them back and make them realise what they’ve done. Let them learn! I love consequences in fiction, lol.
At the same time, I’ll probably start writing. We’ve already written down some snippets of neat dialogue or descriptions, but now we should start the actual process. For me, I used to start at the beginning. Usually this was the most fleshed out anyway: I’ll have a clear idea of the beginning and the end, but nothing in the middle. These days, if I have a scene in mind that I can’t forget, I’ll just write it. It will possibly get scrapped or rewritten, but that’s okay, because at least you’ve got it down and now you can devote your brain power to something useful (like figuring out what the middle is supposed to be). I’ll have half a dozen of totally out of context scenes just littered in my Word document that I’ll add to as I go along. Eventually, though, you’re going to start writing properly, and that’s when you write your opening scene.
Opening scenes: super important. Every time I write a scene I think: what is the point of this? What do I want the reader to learn or takeaway? Sometimes you do have filler scenes, but they also serve a different purpose (perhaps to establish a group dynamic or to explore/describe a character’s surroundings). Mainly, though, every scene should push something forward in some way, whether it’s character development or a plot point. So, with an opening scene, I always think you have to establish: where you are; who you are; what they are doing; where they’ve come from (in a philosophical and practical sense); and where they’re going (ditto). That doesn’t have to happen in the first paragraph -- that would be silly. But if you sprinkle that information in over time it’ll gradually build up a picture of your character and that way the reader can get an idea of who they are. You basically need to give a snapshot of what your story is about. This also goes back to the character creator stuff: where they are at the start should be different to where they end up. How that happens is, of course, because of plot, and because you’ve structured everything to the nth degree, we’ve got a very clear progression of that character’s growth (/s easier said than done lol).
General advice
Write down everything: every idea, a bit of dialogue, a description, whatever. Write it down. Doesn’t have to be neat. Just has to be on paper. You can’t remember everything, so if you’re spending time trying to hold those things in your head, it’s taking up space for new ideas to come along.
Structure, plan, structure, plan. Sometimes it’s boring and I hate it. Other times, when I’ve not written in a few days and I open the Word doc and think wtf is this supposed to be, I am very grateful for Past Me for leaving such detailed notes. Seriously, it helps so much. Oneshots don’t really need planning, in my experience. You just get those out there. But multi-chaptered stories really do, even ones that “just” focus on a relationship.
Whatever you want to write, commit to it. Space goblins invade Hawkins? Do it. Eleven and Max find themselves in a cult akin to Midsommar (2019) and must escape? Yes. Just... whatever you want to do, remember that you’re writing it for you. Write what most interests you, what makes you when you reread it go AHHHHH I LOVE THIS!! Because that makes it a thousand times easier to actually get on with the writing when you enjoy what you’re doing.
Write a lot. Every day, if you can, or at least at designated times. Occasionally I have a very specific headspace/vibe I have to be in, but sometimes it just hits me and I’ll say to my partner “I need to write now” and just disappear, lol. The more you write the more you write. It’s so, so, so true. Cannot emphasise this enough. When I wrote that ~200k in twelve months? It was because I literally wrote every. day. Or near enough. Remember that some days you’ll write 200 words, and other days you’ll write 20k (this happened to me with ADATS -- part of the reason I finished it so quickly was because I had sprints of writing 10k+ at a time that only happened because I was in the rhythm of it). Write, write, write. Who cares if it’s crap! No one will see it until you are ready. In the meantime, just write!
Probably last of all (although I could go on and on) is connect with other writers. If you’re struggling to start, sometimes just talking about it can help a huge amount. I hope it goes without saying that you can message me whenever you want, anon or not, and I will talk to you. We can talk about ideas or I can beta stuff, whatever you want! Find like-minded people and talk to them about what you want to do. Another thing this helps is in advertising your work when you do publish. I see a lot of first time fic writers get super down because they publish their magnum opus on AO3 but no one comments. Honestly, it’s because no one knows you’ve published! You don’t have to be tooting your own horn every which way, but just actively talking about your work and even collaborating with other content creators with get you hyped and other people too (and the input and encouragement other fandom members give is just... out of this world. Anon messages helped me finish ADATS when I was really worried I wouldn’t [that’s the truth]. Seriously, support is everything). When you have people excited about your work, you get excited. It’s really as simple as that.
I could go on but this is already horrendously long. I hope even a bit of this helps! If you want to chat or have any more questions, just hit me up any time.

Oh, Baby - Ch.2

Pairing: Daddy!Dean x Reader
Word Count: 1905
Summary: The Winchester Family prepares for Thanksgiving
A/N: Hey y’all! So originally I planned for this to be the Sequel to my One-shot Oh, Baby. As I was writing it I realized I have so much more I want to put into this story so I’ve decided to turn it into a series. Let me Know if you want to be tagged!
The sound of giggles floated through the bunker as Dean and Sam walked through the door. “Luna May Winchester” you say sternly as she splashes water all over your shirt again.
“I sowy mama” She blows you kisses as you finish washing her off.
“Is that my little bug i hear?” Dean asks as he steps into the bathroom
“Daddy!” She squeals trying to get out of the tub to him.
“Careful baby it's slippery” Dean walks over to the bathtub scooping her up in a towel. “Oh i missed you bug” he kisses her face all over, giggles spilling from her lips.
“Well now that daddy is here mommy is in need of some dry clothes” Dean takes luna to her room to get ready for bed as you walk into the shared bedroom and put pajamas on.
“Daddy read stowy?” Luna asks as Dean puts her rainbow pajamas on and brushes her hair.
“Go pick one out bug” Luna jumps down from her bed and walks over to her reading corner, she grabs three books before running back to her bed and crawling underneath the blankets.
Walking into Luna’s roomas Dean opens the first book, as you sit on the other side of Luna, running your fingers through her hair. Finishing the second book, Luna's eyes close softly as soft snores fall from her lips.
You both kiss her one last time before closing her bedroom door. “How was it? Is Jody all settled into the new place?” you ask
“Yeah, now she's just gotta paint and replace the living room floor and she's done. She really turned that old piece of junk around” Dean replies as you both walk into the kitchen to find Sam eating.
“Hey sam” you hug him quickly before making yourself a mug of hot chocolate. Dean pulls out leftovers from the fridge as the three of you relax and hang out. “So Thanksgiving is coming up, I thought we should invite people over and have dinner?” You question the boys as they eat their dinner.
“Yeah, that could be fun. I’m sure Eileen would love to visit and see Luna!” Sam says excitedly at the thought of seeing Eileen. You chuckle softly at Sam as you finish your drink, resting your head on Dean's shoulder.
“As long as there's lots of pie I don’t care what we do” Dean replies. Shortly after finalizing Thanksgiving plans everyone retires to their rooms for the night.
The next morning you roll over in bed to wrap your arms around Dean only to be met with a tiny body. You open your eyes to see Luna holding back a giggle “What’s so funny baby girl?” you ask her with a smile as you begin tickling her.
“Momma Stop!” she squeals in laughter. You scoop her into your arms as you walk towards the war room.
“Where's daddy and Uncle Sam?” You question the ball of energy wiggling in your arms, as Luna slips from your arms to the ground she takes off running screaming
“Unca Sammy gots a puppy!”. Your eyes widen as you follow behind your daughter. As the war room comes into view you see Dean frowning at Sam who indeed is holding a very small puppy.
“Dude, it's a puppy not a monster, what did you want me to do? Abandon it and let it die?” He looks at Dean questioningly.
“Maybe if you weren’t Mr. Health nut and always going on runs, we wouldn't be in this mess!” Dean responds. Walking into the room you lean against the wall.
“So we have a dog now?” You question your husband as Sam sits on the ground so Luna can play with the puppy.
“No, we are getting rid of it” He responds looking at you sternly.
“Daddy! NO!” Luna cries holding the puppy against her small body. You smirk at Dean as big fat tears roll down Luna’s cheeks
“Like I said, we have a dog now” you say to your husband who now looks defeated.
“Come on unca Sammy!” Luna pulls Sam with her as she chases the puppy down the hall. Kissing Dean softly you tell him
“You’re the best dad, now I have people to invite, a meal to plan, and a grocery store trip to make. Maybe you and Sam could take Luna to the park today, she misses you.”
Thirty minutes later you are sipping coffee at the table as you write down a grocery list. Dean walks into the kitchen, Luna’s small ladybug backpack in hand.
“Luna’s all bundled up, its a little chilly today. We are going to get dog supplies and then head to the park. If you need anything just call ok?” He confirms with you as he kisses your forehead.
Nodding you stand up following him to the impala to say goodbye to your daughter. Opening the back door you double check her buckles and kiss her forehead. “Be good for Daddy babygirl.” You tell her
“I am!” She grins widely showing off her teeth
Laughing softly you close the door and wave as the impala pulls out of the garage. Going back to your room you grab a pair of skinny jeans with a cream sweater, deciding to dress up slightly you grab your new pair of booties, zipping them up.
Grabbing your bag you put the grocery list inside and grab the keys to your car. When you arrive at the grocery store you groan, debating your choice to have a thanksgiving meal as you see the store filled with people.
Grabbing a shopping cart you quickly gather your list of supplies filling the cart to the brim, you consider grabbing a second cart, knowing how much the hunters loved to eat. In the end you manage to get everything into one cart and head to the checkout counter. Once you checkout, you are glad about the credit card scams for once, seeing the large total of $378.43.
Putting the groceries into the trunk of the car you shiver as the wind picks up. If the weather kept this up it would be snowing in no time, you thought to yourself. Turning the car on you turn up the heater as you listen to the soft acoustics of the music drifting quietly throughout the car.
Once you are you notice it’s already two in the afternoon, quickly putting away the groceries you grab your phone begging to make calls to your family. Dialing Jody’s number first you heat up a small lunch for yourself.
“This is Jody.” She answers after the third ring
“Hey Jody! It’s Y/n, I was calling because we decided to do a last minute thanksgiving and we wanted to invite you and the girls.” You tell her happily
“That sounds perfect Y/n, we were just talking about plans for thanksgiving. We will head down there in the morning, it’ll give us plenty of time to catch up and see that gorgeous girl of yours.” She responds
“Great! We’ll see y’all then!” Hanging up you make your way down the list inviting Jody and the girls, Garth, Charlie, and Bobby. You hadn’t seen everyone in a long time and having them in one place together kept a smile on a face.
This year was extra special for another reason, as you finish eating you can’t help but smile down at the small bump of your stomach, two weeks ago you took a pregnancy test. At first you thought it was a stomach bug because Luna was just getting over it.
Turns out, it was another baby. You couldn’t wait to tell Dean about the newest addition but you were worried as well. With the news of your second child coming you had been thinking more and more about leaving the hunting life, you hadn’t shared any of this with your husband but you knew eventually you would have to tell him.
Keeping yourself occupied you clean the bunker, getting it ready for guests. Everyone would arrive tomorrow for Thanksgiving and stay the night. Making sure each room had clean sheets and pillows for your guests. Distracted in cleaning you don’t hear the bunker Door open.
“Mama! I Home!” Luna runs into your arms giggling as she wraps her body around your.
“Hi baby girl, did you have fun at the park?” You ask her, her cheeks and nose slightly rosey. Adjust her so she’s sitting on your hip you walk out of the room to look for Dean.
“Yes! And buttercup plays me!” She tells you excitedly
“Let’s get you warmed up bug” you pour some milk into a mug heating it up in the microwave.
“Pizza delivery!” Dean says as he walks in dropping two large boxes on the table.
Pressing her cold hands onto your face Luna giggles as you gasp at the cold touch. Pouring the warm milk into a sippy cup for her you set her down in her chair, glaring slightly at your husband.
“What?” He says around a slice of pizza.
Saying nothing you grab plates for everyone and dish some for Luna. Sitting down next to her as Sam comes in to eat as welll.
Throughout dinner Luna had begun to start sneezing and sniffling and your husband still had yet to notice. This only added to your annoyance. Once Luna was finished she was basically half asleep. “Sam, could you put her to sleep please, I need to talk to Dean”
“Sure thing Y/n” Sam quickly lifts Luna from her seat bolting from the kitchen recognizing your tone.
“I’m sorry?” He asks unsure of why his wife was now pissed at him.
“Dean! She just got over the stomach bug and now she has a cold! You can’t keep her out so long especially without the right gear! Her hands were freezing cold!” You snap at him
“I’m sorry y/n, you know how much fun she has at the park and with the dog we just lost track of time. She seemed fine and I even made her wear a jacket. I’ll take care of this ok?” He holds your hand rubbing his thumb against you softly.
“Just, don’t it again please.” you say, the annoyance leaving you. “Let’s just go to bed, we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.” Standing up you put the leftovers in the fridge before walking to your room with Dean.
Dean sits you on the bed unzipping your shoes and rubbing your feet softly, moaning at the feeling you lay back closing your eyes and drifting to sleep.
Opening your eyes you feel Dean's lips on your neck “Morning baby” he says gruffly
“Mm” you smile rolling over on top of Dean, straddling his hips. “Good morning” you lean down kissing him. Your lips capture his in a fight for dominance.
“I could definitely get used to waking up like this” He smirks as you run your hand down his chest
“Can’t help myself, you’re just so damn irresistible Mr. Winchester” You lean down kissing his neck
He flips you over quickly pining you underneath him “Don’t start something you can’t finish baby” He runs his hand down your body kissing you all over
“We’ve got 15 minutes before she’s up” You gasp as he reaches your sweet spot
“That’s all I need” he smirks, pulling the sheets over your entangled bodies.

A03 Tag Game
Oh heyyyy @mentallydatingahotcelebrity thank you for tagging me in this and making me feel like an ACTUAL WRITER MY GOSH, even though it took me five days to actually do it...
How many works do you have on AO3?
Nine, which is a pleasant surprise. I thought it was more like five... Plus, one of them is a compilation of 31 little ficlets I wrote for an Ineffable Holiday challenge last year, so I suppose in a way you could say 39. I'm relatively new to writing fanfic, so I'm actually proud of myself for having this many already.
What is your total AO3 wordcount?
39,850. My goodness. That many words of fanfic. Astonishing. And that doesn't even include the stuff I have yet to post. I wonder what the word count of my original writing must be???
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Four fandoms... Good Omens (mostly), The Politician, Crimson Peak, and Only Lovers Left Alive. For someone who loves Tom Hiddleston and all his work, I have the dickens of a time writing for him. No idea why. I have an old Loki fic that I keep meaning to edit and post, but you know... Something shiny and new always comes along.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Well, this will be interesting... I have no idea. Lemme just casually provide links to subtly hint that you (yes you) ought to go read my words. Just kidding. Or am I?
1. Dreams and Plans (Good Omens fic) Awww, this is the very first fic I posted! And I'm still super proud of it, so this makes me happy.
2. Holidays in the South Downs (Good Omens compilation) See, this is the one I expected to have the most kudos. It's the compilation I mentioned earlier, so I fully expected it to have the most engagement.
3. Baby Blue Transistor (Good Omens fic) Clearly, my readers are a Type. This was a "Good Omens Lockdown" fix-it fic. Because NO WAY was I going to let Crowley sleep through the pandemic and leave his angel all alone. And Aziraphale wasn't about to let that happen either.
4. Shelter from the Rain (Good Omens fic) Aw. I love this one. Writing it made me happy.
5. Crimson Past (Crimson Peak fic) It's flippin' hilarious to me that this one makes the list, since it's literally just something I threw on ao3 for a lark. But I guess if you've only got nine options to work from... 💁🏻♀️
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I always respond! I just get so excited at seeing that someone cared enough about something I wrote to have a reaction to it! And more people who have the same interests! It's just! So cool!!! Lucky me, so far I haven't had any really negative comments, but I would hopefully do my best to respond well to those if they ever come my way.
What is the fic you’ve written with the Angstiest ending?
Hmm. Probably Crimson Past or Will You Stay?
Crimson Past is about the aftermath of what happens in the movie, so I mean...
And Will You Stay? is a little moment between Payton Hobart and River Barkley from The Politician. Yeah. If you know you know.
I love a good bit of angst, but I mostly tend to write happy endings if possible, because I love the characters I write for and just want them to be happy. Is that too much to ask???
Do you ever write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?
S...sort of? I mean, kind of. I'm not sure if it really counts. BUT ANYWAY let me talk about my most recent endeavor, okayy?
Lonely Nights is a semi-crossover of Only Lovers Left Alive/an original character that's based on the "story" of Ben Platt's cover of "You and I" by Lady Gaga. Trust me, I know it sounds weird, but to me the music video has such a strong character and even narrative that it totally counts in my brain.
Anyways, it has like 5 kudos because it's supremely random, but I had such fun writing it that I'm currently writing a sequel. And maybe even turning it into a trilogy ye gods above save me from myself.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
If I have, I deleted it and repressed the memory. Luckily I'm not big or popular enough to garner that kind of attention. Unless, as I said, I repressed it all. Apart from Good Omens, honestly the fandoms I write for are small enough that people just seem grateful for ANY new content, so it's a win-win situation. 🤣
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Oh no, I can't write smut to save my LIFE. I'm not sure why, I love reading the stuff, but somehow I just feel so foolish trying to write it. I'm much more the "fade to black" kind of writer.
I did just write a quick little rather steamy moment for Ben, my Lonely Nights + Unnamed Sequel OC, but even that was written from the perspective of an unwitting observer and was intended for comedy purposes, so yeah. And both participants were fully clothed throughout.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware... Again, being small and in tiny fandoms has its advantages.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not technically, although I am currently indebted to Mental (hi!) for donating like half of the good ideas for my current WIP, and being a cheerleader for the other half. So in a way??? Anyway, shout-out to you for being amazing, Mental. 💞
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Don't ask me that. That's mean. I could be here for days. But as of THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT, my top three (in no particular order) would have to be The Ineffables (GO), River/Payton (The Politician), and Ben/Top Secret New OC from my WIP.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Honestly, I'm pretty sure it was the Curious George fandom when I was like five years old... But that's not on ao3, so. I bet my mom still has the original manuscript somewhere in her house though, so you never know.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
It's a toss-up between Lonely Nights/its upcoming sequel, purely because I'm having so much fun with them, and Give Me One Weekend, a Politician fic, because it makes me happy to write about my boys being happy.
Okayyyyy, I'm gonna tag @missarisanitewrites even though you've probably already done this... But just in case you haven't. Mainly, I'm just a fan (curses on you for that Professor!Tom nonsense) and wanted to tag you, so. Hi. No pressure.
And also @broken-lycan because Ummmm hello you're super talented and ought to flaunt your words at every opportunity and also I miss you so Hi.

August Reading
This is officially the most books I’ve read in years and I’m still on a roll.
1) Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (Four Stars)
I found myself enjoying this more than I did Uprooted, which surprised me because I really did enjoy Uprooted and the spins Novik put on her magic system (standard magic vs. working magic in your own way). I blame it on the fact that there’s fae in here. XD Granted, the Staryk king was a major dick but I still found him entertaining because he’s a fae; of course his morals are going to clash with humans. Also ice fae. Need I say more? XD And the tsar...my goodness. Couldn’t stand him at first, but then he showed to be just as much a victim AND having barely a brain cell to run his own freaking country. And I’m saying that generously. At least it’s heavily implied he’s realized how lucky he is to have his wife by his side (’cause she totally saved his tush). The found family juice was strong in this one and I enjoyed every second of it.
2) Boys Run the Riot Volume 2 by Keito Gaku (Four Stars)
I actually enjoyed this as much as I did the first volume so it really should be four and a half stars, but that ending was so not okay. O_O I imagine volume three is going to be more emotionally tense. *hugs baby boy*
3) Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Volume 11 by Izumi Tsubaki (Four Stars)
There’s no denying that some of the humor is becoming hit or miss but I still chuckle more often than not. <333
4) Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Volume 12 by Izumi Tsubaki (Four Stars)
See above. I’d totally keep buying the volumes as they come out in English because it’s pretty much modern Ranma 1/2 in terms of character development not being the main priority in its narrative. As long as it makes you chuckle; it’s doing its job.
5) A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik (Four Stars)
Yo, yooooooo. I can’t live in that world. I can’t. I do not envy the characters. If I lived in that world and found out I had magic powers, I’d be screwed. Anyway, I highly enjoyed El and her snark. I didn’t expect this to be a dark comedy and dark comedies are actually up my alley. XD It was nice watching her slowly develop some genuine friendships in an otherwise hostile environment and her dynamic with Orion is where I don’t care where it goes as long as they care about each other. Platonic, romantic, quasiplatonic. I’ll take it.
Also, I’m still lowkey reeling from that last sentence. Best believe I’m buying the sequel.
6) To Your Eternity Volume One by Yoshitok Oma (Three Stars)
I didn’t know how to feel about this one. I mean, it’s well-written but I couldn’t decide if this is the type of story I want to follow because the premise, while fascinating, can possibly lead on the depressing side. I mean, I freaking watched a child get his leg infected and die in his sleep in the first freaking chapter (which I totally saw coming given who the author is, but dang). But judging from screencaps I saw of the manga and the themes going on, I’ll probably continue. Or at least follow the anime.
7) That Kind of Guy by Talia Hibbert (Four Stars)
It’s Hibbert. She writes; I read. All I have left is Wanna Bet? (which apparently got renamed The Roommate Risk) but I look forward to reading it sometime in the future.
8) Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson (Four Stars)
I was gonna wait until the start of September to read, but I ended up starting early and finishing early. Monday’s Not Coming broke my heart; Allegedly freaking betrayed me. Like, it’s been two days and I’m still lowkey pissed. XD And the worst part is you can totally recall what counted as hints to the twist and, YMMV, but I thought it was clever. Disturbing, but clever. I found out people either loved the ending or hated it and honestly, both are fair.
9) Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson (Four Stars)
I speed through this in two freaking days. I had to know who killed the man so I could shake their hand. Then when I found out who they were (minor spoiler), it was like, “Yo, he deserved to rot in jail, not this.” Then it was revealed that they started the assault but the finishing blow by the other person was justified. I appreciated that while the novel mentioned a tragic backstory and let you realize why he partially turned out the way he did, it absolutely did not justify what he did to all those girls. Not at all.
Plans for September
Technically I’m ahead of the game because I was gonna read Allegedly and Grown in September, but that means time for other books. <3 So far, I already got started on Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson. So:
1) Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tifftany D. Jackson
2) the book S got me for my birthday; I forgot the name but it’s safe in my room for the time being
3) The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
4) White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson
5) The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
I would roll the dice for the TBR game but this list is enough. XD
#faye reads#as of tonight i've read 59 books#last year was 51#year before was 57#dunno why i've rarely encountered a reading slump this year but i'm not complaining#three months to go

WARNING: Very N S F W. Includes sisterly incest, cunnilingus, anal play, tickling, foot worship, and as you probably expected... food kink.
Notes: HAPPY CORONATION DAY! I've been hanging onto this since I posted chapter 5 both because I wanted to make sure it was just right, and I thought it deserved to be released on an important day in the fandom's history: the date Elsa was crowned Queen of Arendelle in 1844. (We know this thanks to some smart cookies on Reddit haha)
So I know this should technically be from Elsa's POV if I continued to follow the convention I set up for myself, but I decided to keep writing it as Anna. It's been her story from the beginning and it should end as her story. Plus it's an epilogue, so it doesn't have to follow the rest of the fic's format! So there! AHAHAHAHA… I don't know, I'm tired.
And YES, this is the end. No sequels, no Epilogues-To-Epilogues; the MSB grand finale. I know a lot of you may have not seen my mention of an epilogue in the notes for last chapter, so hopefully you'll see this! If any of you want to continue Elsa and Anna's story in your own spinoff fanfics, be my guest (but please credit me); otherwise, I consider MSB to be at its natural ending. Hope you all enjoy the last slice!
In all seriousness, thanks to everyone who has waited this long for what is essentially a one-off smutty fic about D*sney sisters to be finished. I owe so much to this story; it changed my life in a very literal, very unexpected way. Elsa and Anna's true love thawed my jaded heart and encouraged me to keep writing, even when I was sank deep in the darkness of a miserable life, and to explore who I am in ways I never felt brave enough to do. I'm in such a better place now than when this began. It's been a pleasure being part of this fandom, and hopefully I will continue to enjoy it for a long time to come.
Until we meet again,
Jessex

EPILOGUE
Min Søsters Bursdagsmadrass: Anna
~ Five Months Later ~
Okay, okay, not quite five months have passed since we saved our kingdom from my sister's magic. Closer to four-and-a-half. But the time has flown by so much that it feels more like a week.
Kristoff and Sven came galloping up to the gates just as we were exiting. The ice boy was a lot less shocked that I was arm-in-arm with Elsa than I expected; probably because he pretty much already caught us in flagrante delicto before. He tried to offer congratulations, and I gave him a big hug to cut through all that awkwardness.
Olaf showed up not long after. Well, we came across a puddle that used to be Olaf; I'd know that carrot nose anywhere. Before I could start sobbing, Elsa calmly created a little ice-flurry and rebuilt him as easy as if she were breathing; he was disoriented, but didn't take long to be back to his cheerful self, hugging us and congratulating us on figuring out that we belonged together. That made sense the more I thought about it. Seriously, why wouldn't our snow-baby always know his parents should stay together?
Naturally, there were a few people who came to the levee that didn't condone our love. I wish I could say differently. Most of them were either too afraid to speak out against us — probably because my sister was some kind of ice witch, that tends to make even the bravest of men need a change of underwear — or they were genuinely happy we were happy, and summer was back. But one or two tried to shame us. Didn't go well, considering we were the monarchy and surrounded by supporters. More insisted we needed a king, at the very least for the purpose of heirs. I tried to tell them that Olaf was our heir, which got a lot of weird looks, but Elsa insisted that it was our decision if and when we crossed that bridge. I guess that's why she's the queen, right? I mean, can you imagine me as the queen of Arendelle? No way!
Hans was tried and convicted of treason against the kingdom. I didn't even go; I didn't want to look at him again if I could help it. But I watched from the castle walls with my sister as they led him away to a ship bound for the Southern Isles. We figured his family would make sure the sentence was severe if they wanted to maintain a good trade partnership with Arendelle. Plus, we wouldn't have to deal with him still being in our home. Win-win.
We also shipped old Weaseltown out. He can peacock-strut and backstab on his own turf.
Everything flew by a lot faster after those first few days. Kristoff was our new icemaster general — totally a real title, thank you — and Olaf's cheery presence got everyone used to the idea of magic. The people slowly grew to accept that their queen had a queen of her own. At first, we tried not to be too open with our relationship, but even though everybody thinks of me as the free spirit, it was Elsa who decided we should begin taking walks through the kingdom, hand-in-hand. At first, we got a few stinkeyes, but little by little, they saw we were happy, and not hurting anyone with our taboo love, and… it just became normal, I guess.
Which is fantastic! I mean, if they didn't I would have bought a whole collection of lutes to start smacking them with, but that didn't turn out to be necessary. Good thing; a co-queen shouldn't brawl with her subjects. Looks kinda bad.
As we hit the middle of December and the weather was turning colder without my sister's influence, I started scheming. We had enjoyed four wonderful months of getting to know each other all over again. Even though I'm basically a big ball of libido, somehow Elsa convinced me that we shouldn't just start banging each other's brains out every day. How dare she! But I have to admit, having that sex-free courtship time was somehow a magic all its own.
Because we were behind. By thirteen years. I found out just how well-read my sister was, since she had ploughed through book after book when she wasn't trying to practice controlling her magic. That was something we had in common, since I was often equally bored; it turned out we had read a lot of the same books, and we could compare our thoughts and feelings about them over many, many cups of tea. She never did start talking to paintings like I did, but when I introduced them to her, at least she was bemusedly giggling behind her hand instead of openly mocking me, or telling me I needed medical attention. And we went horseback riding, and swimming, ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. Started going through our parents' things at last, painful though it was. Learned about the kind of adults we had become since we last knew each other as children.
And kissed, sure. Just because we didn't start rolling around in the bed sheets right away didn't mean I was going to let us be complete prudes.
However… my sister's birthday was fast approaching, and I knew I had to do something big. Maybe in a literal sense. So the scheming turned to plotting, and the plotting turned to planning. And then the plans got put in motion leading up to her big day.
~ o ~
"Alright, alright, Olaf! I'm going!"
"Sorry, Elsa, but there's no time to waste!" I could hear him replying to her from the other side of the door. I could just barely see her slippered feet and his snow stumps through the crack underneath. So weird doing that from the inside this time… "I guess. I've never had a birthday, but Anna told me this is your biggest one yet, and we got a schedule to keep!"
"Okay, little guy," she laughed at him easily. Even though I couldn't see, I could just picture her petting over his head. "Thank you."
"Yep! And oh, I was supposed to do something else, it was… yeeeessss! Anna told me I should 'get lost for the rest of the day'. So I guess my question is, does that mean until sundown? Or midnight? And how lost do I have to get? I can get lost just in this castle, it's so big, but she was pointing at the gates when she said it…"
"Tell you what. Why don't you go pay Kristoff and Sven a visit? That should be far enough."
"But I won't be lost if I know where I'm going," he told her in a patient tone, as if she were the one who was missing something instead.
"My mistake," she laughed fondly. "Just have a little adventure outside of the castle and we will see you in the morning."
"Okie-dokie! Have fun, don't do anything I wouldn't do! Or do, because you're not me, so you should be doing things I wouldn't do? Maybe? Especially if I'm going to be getting lost and you don't need to be lost. I don't know if that's exactly…"
He was still talking by the time his voice started to fade around the corner. The rest of the sentence was cut off by Elsa knocking on my door.
"Go away, Elsa," I called back at her in an exaggeratedly pouty tone.
"Anna," she sighed. "Yes, I know I was the one saying that to you for a decade of our lives, but this joke is starting to get a little old now."
"Whaaaaaat? No, I don't think so."
"It's officially old as of today. Now, may I come in, or will you be coming out?"
"Think we both already did that last part," I giggled. "Did you, um, prepare?"
"For the love of- yes! Though I don't know why, I let Gerda bathe me thoroughly, and now I am standing outside your door, scrubbed raw and regretting that I listened to her, because you are being a pain in the-"
She didn't finish that thought because I unlocked the door just then. But I didn't open it for her. I was too busy scampering across the floor of my chambers to stand by the bed, grinning from ear-to-ear like a loon. And don't judge, okay? I'd been planning this for a long time.
"Um…" The door creaked open, and one of her baby blues peered around the inside of the darkened room. The sun had already set, so it was only the moonlight and the single candle on my bedside table providing illumination. "A-Anna?"
"Please enter," I said in a pretentiously royal tone.
"Oh, your robe is like mine," she said with a small smile as she eased the door shut behind her.
"Yep! Silk, from the East! I mean, you fill yours out a little better — especially up top. But that's one of the gifts. And I figured, hey, might as well get one for me, too!"
Barely glancing down at the blue silk covering her sizable assets, she shook her head with a small laugh. "It's very nice, thank you. But I thought I told you I didn't want you to make a big deal about my birthday; we should be focused on the Yule festivities for the kingdo-"
"No, no, no," I teased her with a wave of my index finger, bouncing on my heels excitedly. "This is the first time in thirteen years I have been able to celebrate this with you. Give me this one, okay?"
"When can we stop saying the number thirteen and start really enjoying our lives again?"
"When it's been fourteen years. Now… can you take that robe off and hop up on the bed for me?"
Oh, that shrewd little smirk that blossomed on my sister's face. It was both breathtakingly beautiful and super sexy. She was all the time, anyway, but there were moments that it stood out a lot more. "Ahhhh. So that's what all this is about, is it? You think tonight we are going to break our courtship."
"Mmmmaybe. But even if we don't, I still want more with you tonight. If that's okay," I added hastily, fidgeting with my hands behind my back.
"I see." Elsa stepped forward to smooth her hands up and down the green silk covering my chest, teasing her fingernails over my neck. Definitely not making it any easier to stop my lady parts from launching a hostile takeover of my brain, I can tell you! "And… this is very important to you, isn't it?"
"Y-yeah." Clearing my throat, I said, "And I understand why courting was important to you. And it's been great! Really, I loved getting to know you all over again, and we have been having so much fun. But… maybe just a little playing tonight? Please?"
As she glared across into my eyes, I brought my thumb and forefinger up between our faces, half an inch apart. That was all it took to make her burst out laughing.
"That little, hmm?" she finally chuckled as my cheeks burned. "Okay. I assume once I am in position, you will tackle me on this bed?"
"Yeah. Well, not 'tackle', but I'll join you. I just want you to feel how soft it is first."
That got Elsa's eyebrows raising in slight surprise. "Soft, hm? Did you get yourself a new bed for my birthday?"
"I dunno, did I?" I gasped. Hoping my acting skills were at least good enough to hide how excited I was.
Not quite. But at least Elsa hadn't fully figured out my cunning scheme. She pointed at my face and hissed under her breath, "There had better not be anyone hiding in here."
"Hiding? Wait, why would I stick anybody else in here and then tell you to take off your clothes?"
"How should I know? Sometimes you have a really strange sense of humour, Anna."
"Not that strange! Surprise creepy people sounds plain old mean!" But before she could say anything else, I placed a hand over my heart and raised the other one. "I do hereby solemnly pledge that nobody is going to jump out of the wardrobe at you. Or anything else like that."
"Fine, I believe you," she laughed as she stepped from her slippers and let the silk fall from her shoulders, exposing her smooth, pale back. Even now that we had been going for walks and rides, she was still white as alabaster, despite the alternating tans and sunburns I had.
"Mmm…"
"Again, my birthday seems to be full of gifts for you," she accused playfully with a little glance over her shoulder at me as she approached the bed, moving to climb atop it. "Little pervAAAHHH?!"
SPLAT.
Nope, I definitely couldn't hold back anymore. I wrapped my arms around my middle and burst out into gales of laughter, shaking all over and trying my best not to fall down. "ELSA! Your face — you should see your face!"
"I'm- what is- ANNA!" my poor sister finally burst out as she slipped and slid everywhere, defiling all my hard work. "What is the meaning of this?! What IS this, where did- is this CAKE?!"
Cackling and bouncing up and down as I clapped my hands, I finally crowed, "YES! Isn't it incredible?! Doesn't it look just like my bed? I mean, it did before you jumped on it, but even still, the rest of it!"
God, she looked hilarious. I was laughing, but was doing my best not to actually point at Elsa while I did it. And anyone would have laughed; her face covered in so much chocolate and frosting, a huge chunk falling from her chin to splash onto her right breast even while she blinked at me in wonder. Never had our regal queen looked so un-regal.
"You… made… a bed-sized cake… just to play this prank on me." She scraped some of the frosting from her eyelids and flicked it away, turning slightly so she could kneel on the layers of confection. That only made me laugh so hard I snorted like a pig. "This is… I have no words. I literally have no words, I could never have anticipated this."
"Aww, don't be grumpy," I teased breathlessly as I got rid of my own robe, dropping it right next to hers. "Just because I got you good this time! You freaked out, it was the most amazing thing I've watched in my whole life!"
"Yes, well, the show is ov- Anna, what are you doing now? Don't tell me- are you going to jump into this cake with me?! That's insane!"
I hesitated. "Well… I was before you called it 'insane'…" But then I approached the edge of the bed, hands on my hips. No way was I going to chicken out that easily. "This wasn't just a prank. I really wanted to do this for you."
That finally got her to laugh, and when she started she found it hard to stop. I laughed with her, watching her slap her caked thigh a few times. But before I could join her on the bed, she suddenly breathed, "Insane… but beautiful. I've never seen a woman more lovely in the entire world."
My heart skipped over a beat, and I hoped she couldn't tell how hard my nipples were in the low light. "Ahhhhh, now you're just lying. We both know you own a mirror."
"Nice try," she laughed, biting her sugar-coated lip for a moment to weather my counter-compliment. Then she tilted her head slightly while asking, "Why? This is the strangest surprise I have ever received — and that includes that certain birthday of yours. But I can tell it means a lot to you, so could you help me…?"
Great. Now I had to actually face the music, and it was going to take a lot of exposing of feelings. So I took a deep breath before throwing my inhibitions to the wind... and letting my knees sink into the cake.
"That is so wrong," I groaned, feeling one of my eyes twitch.
"I know. But once you get used to it, it's… still wrong, but interesting." She was leaning slightly on one arm, moving her legs out to one side. Always so ladylike, even in a big mound of baked sweetness.
"So here it is," I sighed. "You and me, even when we were really little… chocolate was our soft spot. We could never resist it. And especially after my birthday, when we bonded over it again… I knew your birthday had to be something big, since I could finally celebrate it with you. Something that mattered to both of us. And fun! I thought fun was really important, too. Took me a while to figure out just how I wanted to do this, but once I had this idea, I just… I knew. This was the only thing that would be good enough."
Though she had been listening with a small smile, my last sentence wiped it away. Why? What did I say wrong? Her cake-slicked hand lifted to caress my cheek.
"Anna, anything would have been good enough. Even if this had turned out to be a normal bed, I would have been so happy. How much you spend, how much you plan these gifts, it's sweet but you don't have to go to so much trouble. Don't you know my favourite gift is you?"
My lips only got the chance to part very slightly — when she booped me. She booped my nose with frosting on that finger. The Queen of Arendelle, everybody.
"You little stinker." But her words kept me from retaliating. "You… you mean that, huh? That I'm enough?"
"I do." Her lips pecked mine. "You always have been. I'm just sorry I wasn't able to show you until these past few months. But now, I get to make up for lost time."
Sliding closer, I whispered, "Same here."
And that was as far as I could get before I was attacking her mouth. Elsa welcomed me gratefully, humming as she pulled my body closer. I knew she was getting cake all over me, but I had kind of resigned myself to that when I concocted this whole crazy scheme. Literally concocted.
Which was what she asked about next. "How long did this take to bake?"
"Oh, a couple of days. The trick was keeping the parts we already made fresh so they wouldn't spoil before we finished the rest of it. Kristoff helped me with that, grabbed me a few blocks of ice; normally I would ask you to do it with a little magic, but I mean, since it was a surprise for you that would have been pretty stupid."
"Yes, I suppose so," she giggled, rubbing her fingertips against each other experimentally. "Smooth frosting… buttercream?"
"Of course! And I wanted to add a bunch of berries, but then it wouldn't have looked like my bed, because I don't normally have a bunch of berries on it." While Elsa laughed again, I slipped my arms around her waist. "And yeah, I know you still think it's weird I wanted to be in a cake like this. Plus it's a big waste of food. But for just this one birthday, the first one since we reunited, I wanted to give you something so big it was literally all around us. Like we're part of the cake instead of just the other way around."
Her voice was so gentle and warm when she responded, "I believed you the first time, Anna. But thank you for elaborating. I love knowing how you think, how your mind works. My amazing, clever sister."
Again, we kissed, deeper and longer and with no inhibitions. We tried to restrain ourselves when we were out in public, of course, but alone in my room? Nobody looking over our shoulders? Free as wild horses.
By the time we came up for air, I was no longer the clean one because we had been rolling around in the cake-bed. Sure, I still felt guilty for putting the castle cooks through so much work just so we could wreck it, but at least Kristoff and I gave them a hand — and I gave them the day off once they were through. Anyway, basically the only places where chocolate and frosting hadn't accumulated multiple layers was our faces, because they were so close to each other that nothing could get in between them.
"Are we supposed to be eating any of this?" Elsa laughed, running her finger through some on my shoulder.
"Well, yeah. I wouldn't have done this if it was just for show; this might as well have been a big frosted mud pie." Then I held up…
"Anna, where could you possibly have been hiding that?!"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Elsa merely blinked at me for a few seconds until I caved. "Okay, I had it in my butt."
"What- that sounds incredibly painful!"
"No, no, I was just clenching my cheeks on the handle. Obviously! Like I used the handle outside your door that first time. Come on, do you really think anybody would stick the pointy part into anywhere that sensitive?"
"Well, it is you," she laughed as she reached for the fork. Our fork. "Though I suppose I admire the control you have over your muscles back there." Then she hesitated, her brow furrowing. I could figure out what was holding her back.
"I also took one of Gerda's very thorough baths," I informed her to put her fears at ease. Which made her finally take it with a slight shake of her head. "Oh — and I helped one of the servants mop the floor before we got started in here. Trust me, when I say you can eat off the floor, I really mean it this time."
"You really have thought of everything; such attention to detail. It's almost a little scary."
"Love makes you a little scary sometimes, I guess."
"I guess." Then she slid the fork through some of the cake that we hadn't already rolled in, bringing it up to my lips. "After you."
"Oh! Wait… you first, it's your birthday."
"Diving into it counted as me going first," she chuckled. "Besides, I tasted a little on your lips once they caught some from my lips. Go on." And since I had no argument against that, and she was looking at me with those bemused, insistent eyes, I took the bite into my mouth.
"Ohmyghob, ibzo goob!"
"Anna, manners." Which I could appreciate the irony, since there were very little manners involved in rolling around in a giant cake. Probably. Maybe they do that more often in Corona…
"You have GOT to try this," I gushed once I had swallowed, grabbing the fork and scooping up another big bite for my sister.
"Can't I have a different fork?" But I wasn't budging. And she knew how important that particular utensil was to the both of us. "Gerda bathed you the same way she bathed me, didn't she?"
"It was like standing in a geyser."
"Fine." She accepted her first proper bite. Her blue eyes slid closed in ecstasy as she hummed her approval, eventually nodding after she had chewed for a moment.
"Amazing, right?" All she did was nod, raising a hand to give the okay symbol. So I helped myself to another bite, clutching my hand to my chest as tears welled up in my eyes.
Seriously, it was that good. Best cake I ever had in my life, up to and including the one with my sister's extra frosting.
"Okay," Elsa panted a couple minutes later when we had eaten our fill for the moment. "I was teasing you before, but I take it all back; I do want to live here and sleep here."
"Surrounded by layers of chocolatey goodness?" I giggled as I flopped onto my back, spread eagle in piles of sweet perfection. It was like Heaven, or Valhalla or whatever you believe is the good afterlife.
"Exactly. Fun and function." I glanced over to see she was lying on her side, propped up on one elbow so she could look down at me with a smile full of so much affection that my heart skipped a beat. "So very you."
At first all I did was chuckle a little and smile up at her. But then when she leaned down to kiss my chest, I let my eyes fall closed as a little sigh escaped my lips. "Mmm…"
"You were after something like this, I believe?"
Opening my eyes again, I was just in time to see her tongue slide across the meat of my right breast, the one closest to her. The track of freckled skin she revealed by cutting through the chocolate confection gleamed from her saliva, and it was somehow both offensive and arousing at the same time.
"Y-yeah. Something like that." I cleared my throat and caressed along her back, through cake and hair. "But you don't have to. If that whole courting thing is so-"
"We can take a break," she interrupted with an impish smile. "One night, for both Yule and my birthday. And for you, because I know how hard it has been to keep your hands off me."
A blast of air exploded from my lungs as she licked again. "HAH! W-wow, somebody's conceited in here, and I think her name rhymes with… with, uh…"
"With what? Jelsa?"
"No, that's not a thing."
I was still trying to think of a rhyme for her name when she found my nipple, and my squeal blasted every thought out of both of our minds. My chest was a feast for my sister for the moment as my conscious thoughts faded, simply letting her enjoy me. Because I enjoyed it just as much. A few times, she hit the nerves just right that I twitched, digging my nails briefly into her back and making her hiss in response. Some extra added fun.
Then she started moving down my stomach. I knew where she was going; this wasn't our first time trying this particular activity. But the butterflies were as fresh as ever, and my thighs tried to trap her head there.
"Oh, not tonight?" she purred.
"Reflex," I panted shortly, trying not to laugh at the cake all over her face now. Because even though it was funny, it also wasn't… since she was about to go to town on me.
Oh, she did. She really, really did — and it blew my mind so much more this time, somehow. Maybe it was because for the past few months, I only had that fork handle for company in my bed. Being pent up and needy tends to make the release ten times stronger, you know.
"Elsa!" I whined after a few hours. Okay, it was probably a minute or two, but it felt like so long! "You're really… how did you… get this good?!"
By the time she came up for air to answer me, she was gripping my ass cheeks to hold my pelvis closer to her face. "You're worth trying my best for, Anna. And… I may have practiced on an ice-replica." When I laughed at that, a frosting-smeared eyebrow arched. "Ooh…"
"What?"
"Oh, nothing. Your backside is so firm, and I felt it flexing in my hands. Powerful."
"Y-yeah, I exercise a lot. Could probably pick up a gold coin with it."
"Really?" I felt her poking around back there, and I clenched — again, reflex. "Wow. Do you think… you could squeeze this?"
Before I had any chance to ask a question or protest, I felt a finger sliding between my cheeks. What in the fjord was Elsa doing?! It felt wrong, and disturbing… and hot? Was it hot somehow?! Maybe, but only because it was her, and she had already been going down on me, I'm pretty sure; if anybody else had tried that, especially when I wasn't already chomping at the bit to get off, their hand would be kindling for the fireplace in the corner.
So don't let anybody tell you Elsa is a prude who would never do anything like that. That whole regal facade is just a smoke screen. She can get just as wild as me.
"Wow, your muscles really are strong," Elsa breathed in honest surprise, not just teasing me. "I'm impressed."
Freya, I tried so hard to hold it together. To control my reaction. But as she dragged her finger back from my crack, brushing the little forbidden spot that I had been trying not to think about, I shivered and let out a little moan. Dooming myself.
"Anna?"
"Yes! I m-mean, hello, yeah, you can… you can start back in on the goods now! Remember my goods? Right there in front of you?"
"No, wait. Did you enjoy…?" Probably trying to spare me some embarrassment, she didn't finish the sentence. Instead, she raised her frosting-covered finger and flexed it in my field of vision.
"Oh, did I really get cake in there, too? Sheeze, we've really been going crazy!"
My nervous laughter made it way too obvious I was just trying to distract my sister. Why was I so bad at that sometimes? She looked at me suspiciously for a moment, then glanced at the finger, then back at me.
"Anna-"
"Please, can we not-"
"Anna, it's okay. If you want me to leave that alone, I will; I was only asking how you felt about it. That's all."
Though her words didn't dial back my embarrassment, it soothed away the anxiety spike. "Oh. Well… no, I didn't mind that much. Not really. It's just because… like, after all you've been doing to my clit and tits, I'm kind of sensitive… everywhere. So it was pretty interesting, but I would never ask you to do it again! That's too big a favour!"
Elsa thought that over for a moment, and I finally started to relax. Then she kissed my inner thigh. "Just relax, my love. My Lord Anna." I groaned, thinking back to the coronation ball. Even though it all worked out okay. "I'll take care of you. And all you have to do is ask, and I will stop or change what I am doing. You can always talk to me, alright?"
"Okay," I said, completely relieved. My queen was so sweet to me, always taking care of me as much as she could. Making me feel safe.
Well, I did feel a little less safe when she started kissing closer to my behind. And then when I felt two thumbs pulling the cheeks apart, I wriggled all over and gasped out, "WHOA! Elsa, are you- you're not gonna-"
"Just going to try to get the cake in here," she laughed softly. "Unless you have objections."
Did I? The whole thing was too weird to have any objections. And while I was still trying to come up with one, I felt that wriggling tongue press somewhere I had never wanted or needed it to go. Was Elsa really doing this? She really didn't mind? We did enough wrong and taboo things already that this just seemed like one step too far! But the way she was going at my ass suggested she didn't agree.
And it was… different. Not good, not bad; just unsettling even while it was stimulating. When she was still at it a minute later with no signs of stopping, one of my hands started trailing the handle of that trusty fork down my stomach. Maybe, if I could take care of the main attraction, a little sideshow in the back room wouldn't be so bad.
"Mm?" she hummed, tongue still sliding over my taut skin. She must have seen my fingers moving, because she drew back with a chuckle. "Oh, did you need me to move along?"
"Y-yeah, Elsa, I… we could try that again later, but right now I'm…"
With a solemn nod, she went right back to going down on me. Who could complain about a girlfriend like that? Just takes care of my needs without any complaint. What an angel.
"Oh ffff- MMM!" Yeah, I had to scream into my hand to let out some of my energy. Luckily, it wasn't the one holding the fork or I might have stabbed myself in the face. A minute later, I gasped, "Elsa! I'm almost there! Almost there!"
My sister did not slow down until I actually was there. It felt like she had six tongues instead of two — which she might actually have been able to pull off if she used her ice powers, but I didn't feel her mouth get any colder. I came so hard and shook all over, and the whole time Elsa just held onto my hips and devoured me like I was the best cake she had ever tried. Which was probably how she felt.
Once my heat faded, she lowered me into the cake again and smirked. "That happened awfully quickly for someone who didn't like me playing with her a little lower than usual."
"Y-yeah! Well… you… let me get pent up for multiple months!"
"That is fair. I hope my apology was satisfactory."
Pretending to think real hard about it, I screwed up my face and tapped my chin. Elsa laughed. "Weeeeeelllllllllll… on one condition."
"What condition?" She started when I moved to pin her to the bed. "Oh!"
"This one." My chosen target was her neck. She shivered a little when I ran my tongue along it, enjoying the rich chocolate mixing with the light purity of her skin. I wanted to eat Elsa whole.
"Anna… you… make it hard to breathe."
"Elsa…"
"N-no, I… I'm really-!"
With a shock, I realized she meant the way my hand was pushing into the middle of her abdomen. "OH! Shit, Elsa, I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" As she took a deep breath, I caressed her side. "Better? Man, I am just really dumb sometimes…"
Elsa pulled me down into her embrace. "We already covered that. You are not dumb. You have never been dumb."
"You sure? I mean, not that I'm trying to argue with you, but you keep saying that and then I keep doing dumb things."
"Because you're excited. I am, too; I've just had a lot more practice... controlling myself."
For good reason. But since she wasn't judging me, I pushed myself back up to begin devouring the cake covering her ribs and stomach. She giggled a couple of times, and I smiled at the way her abdominal muscles flexed under my lips, bumping up against my nose. I could have kept eating off her and exploring her for hours and never got bored. Not once.
"Mmhhh, this really is so good," I sighed as I got closer and closer to the finish line. "The cake, you… who could ask for more?"
"I'm glad you… approve." But I could tell she was nervous. Why? It's not like this was the first time we had done anything like this; just the first in a little while.
"Elsa?" She didn't answer right away. Watching her bite her lip and look anxious was cute, but I still prompted her, "Hey. You okay?"
"What? Oh… yes, I'm fine." My face must have looked extra unconvinced, because a second later, she relented. "I'm still a little afraid of losing control of my powers when I…"
"When you what? Oh, wait, you're- right, got it, you don't need to explain. But hey, even when you've done that before, all you did was give me a little extra blast of snow. I don't mind a cold cake."
Tittering the slightest amount, despite the fear in her eyes, she reached down to run her fingers through my sugar-matted fringe. "Neither of us do. And I know you're probably right, but I can't help but worry I will hurt you for a third time. I don't think I could take that."
"Me, either. But you won't. I hear you, I do, but I know you have a handle on this now. You've been doing so good! Nobody in Arendelle is scared of you anymore. So just… let me do the magic this time."
That was that. Even though she was still biting her lip, her brow still creased, she didn't protest further as I kissed the inside of her thigh, devouring the frosting I found there. But I still didn't like that she was wound up so tight. So I figured hey, why not try to loosen her up?
"So, if I get a couple of fingers in you and really start going to town… does that make this pound-cake?"
Oh, now she looked mad. I barely had enough time to register the movement before her foot was pushing into my face, trying to shove me off the bed entirely.
"Hey, whoa whoa, Elsa! Come on, I'm sorry!"
"Why don't I believe you?" she demanded in a would-be stern voice. The answer might have been because I was laughing up a storm. But I caught sight of her smile, which told me she was just trying to mess around with me. One of the many things I had been missing over the past thirteen years.
"Truce! I'll keep my corny jokes to myself if you don't shove me the rest of the way off this bed!" Really, I already had to whip one leg back and brace against the floor to keep from falling as it was. But she slowly began to relent. "Thank you."
"I ought to put my finger back in your 'fork holder' for that one," she grunted.
"It was one time! I don't go around carrying forks back there all the time, you know!"
"Actually, no, I don't know that. Because I never inspect the back of your dress when you are casually walking down the halls."
"You could, though…" As she just shook her head at me, I decided to get a little more playful.
"AH! Not my feet — don't bite my feet, you know how ticklish iyyyahahahhaaaa!"
Too late. My teeth were nibbling all over her chocolatey toes in retaliation for almost being knocked on my butt. The way she began kicking was extremely dangerous, but at least now my childhood memories were intact; I remembered learning by watching our father that you had to hold her leg steady when you tickled her, or you were asking for an eyeful of flailing heel.
"STOP!" she cackled. "I'm- I am about to ruin this cake! Anna!"
Right away, I broke off with a laugh. No matter how much fun I was having, it wasn't worth ruining an entire cake-bed by making her wet herself. "Okay, okay. Yellow frosting is as bad as yellow snow, I guess."
"You… monster!" But she was still laughing a little, cheeks flushed, chest rising and falling in an attempt to regain her breath. Which looked like she had been doing something else.
Flawless. I was head over heels, alright.
"Sorry. But do you know how cute you are when you get tickled?"
Clearing her throat, she pushed up onto her elbows before answering me. "That is… because I didn't get to run around outside the way you did. Not after my ninth birthday. So my feet are…"
Oh. Well that was a sad reason for them to be extra sensitive. But I decided to simply kiss the one I had been attacking and say, "Perfect. You were gonna say 'perfect' right? Because that's the only answer I'm accepting right now."
Shaking her head a little at me, she let out an exasperated sigh that was followed by a small smile. "You're too kind to me."
"Nah. Just know you deserve the best."
Again, I kissed, and she hummed as her smile grew. When my lips parted to let my tongue slide between two of her toes, she rolled her eyes and pulled her foot away. "Fine, I get it, you love every inch of me."
"Glad we got that straightened out. Now, I have my eye on a couple of pastries… one sec."
Her hand raised up to rest on the back of my head when I attacked her chest. I figured she would probably appreciate having some time to recover before I went back between her thighs. The sounds floating out of her lungs were every bit as enthralling as if I had gone straight for the crux of her thighs, of course, but at least this way I could enjoy my cake a little longer.
"You are… so persistent." I switched to the other peak, my hand wrapping around the mountain below and kneading just enough to add pressure and pleasure without causing pain. "Mmmhh, and I almost want to ask if you have been practicing on someone else!"
"Maybe I made an ice-replica," I shot at her as I moved back down. Her grin was so huge. "Okay, I'm ready. Let's do this."
"You make it sound like you're about to go cliff-diving!" she laughed.
"Oh, I am. I'm about to dive down deep into your sound."
Elsa's lips parted, probably to reprimand me for another corny line. But all that came out was a moan when I pressed my mouth tightly against her soft folds through the frosting and chocolate. And I intended to clean every speck of that from her by the time I was finished.
My Elsa. My queen of snow and ice, grace and beauty and power. The only woman in the world. My mind and heart were full of desire for the goddess I was making writhe with my every teasing touch. And it wasn't just that she was the most beautiful girl in Arendelle, not that she had given me an orgasm so recently. This was about way more than repaying a debt or physical beauty; it was my sister. The one person who had always been a part of me, and who always will.
"A-Anna!" she gasped — well, she had been doing that for a couple of minutes, but this one was louder and stronger. Somehow, I just knew what she meant. "I'm… I'm still scared! I love you!"
I loved her, too. But I wanted to show her in some way besides slowing down to tell her with words. So I moved one hand from her hip to push our fork into hers, which had been clutching uselessly at another pile of birthday cake. And wow, did she respond! My hand was caught with the fork between our fingers, and it was such a tight grip that I felt like she would never let me go again.
Which did as much for me as I might have been doing for her.
There was more snow this time. Somehow, I had kind of expected that; I mean, when you tell an ice witch that she shouldn't hold back with her power, you're going to get more power. Makes sense, right? But even while I was still feeling her flesh pulse against my lips and tongue, her juices running down my chin, tiny pinpricks of cold were dusting my back in the spots that weren't covered by chocolate.
"Oh," I panted when I finally came up for air, satisfied that she no longer needed little licks for little aftershocks. "Snow! See? I told you everything would be fine. And this isn't even that bad!"
Though of course, we were both looking around at the winter wonderland filling the room. It was only a couple of inches deep, but spread over that large an area it still added up to a decent amount.
"It's… a lot," she panted. "But at least there aren't any… nothing dangerous."
Scoffing, I crawled up to lay my head on her shoulder, curling my entire body around hers as tightly as I could. Needing to be that close to her now. "Dangerous? You? Come on, you're a big pussycat."
"We both know… that's… a stretch." Finally, she cleared her throat and simply took in a couple of deep breaths so she wouldn't be so winded. Then she turned to look into my eyes with a smile full of afterglow and affection. "Thank you. For that, for all of this; for my perfect birthday night."
"Yeah. You got it. I'm always going to show you how much I love you, no matter how big I have to go to get the point across."
"Anna, you don't have to. I already know." We shared a firm kiss. Then she crinkled her nose. "Oh, that's… did you really enjoy me adding that to your cake? It's so strange."
"Maybe I wouldn't have if I didn't know what it was," I admitted with a giggle. "But knowing? Oh yeah. Totally hot."
"If you say so." Then she suddenly looked horrified. "Oh no — my lips have- you were kissing-"
"All I tasted was Sister-Queen and cake," I headed her off before she actually said it out loud. "Don't have to make it even more gross. Seriously, you didn't run away from my butt? I thought that would be a fate worse than death!"
"No, no," she reassured me, completely contented now that we had both enjoyed ourselves and could relax. "I wasn't lying for your benefit; it wasn't that bad. Especially when mixed with chocolate cake. Though I agree with you about my essence on this subject; probably wouldn't have enjoyed it not knowing what it is, or by itself. Well…"
Running my index fingertip in small circles on her stomach, I prompted, "Well?"
"I could try it by itself. Maybe. Someday."
"Go ahead. I won't… well, I might judge a little, but since we're already sisters who knock boots, it's not gonna hold a lot of water."
"Mmhmm. I suppose that's a valid point."
"Ohhhhh, I just wanna lay here forever!" I burst out as I curled even harder around Elsa, and she laughed again, nuzzling into my hair. "Though I do have another bath ready in the next chamber. I'm no doctor, but it's probably not the best idea for us to leave cake in some of the places we have cake right now."
Nodding, she whispered, "In a minute. This is so comfortable. Actually, I'm surprised we're not sinking all the way down to the floor."
"Oh — yeah, that's because we took a bed-sized wooden box and made the cake on top of that. Like, it's pretty much a bunch of little cakes smushed together in a grid pattern to make one huge sheet cake, and then we just put the icing all over it and down the sides with the right colours and patterns. So it looked like a real bed, with a quilt and all."
"Clever," she chuckled, scratching at my rib cage just enough to prompt a giggle from me before she stopped. "Really, I was flabbergasted at first, but now I really admire all the work you did for this. Because it turned out to be a lot of fun."
Her praise made my heart glow. "It did, didn't it? Chocolate cake slumber party. Go me."
We both fell into the kind of comfortable silence you can only have with family. Lover, sister, friend… Elsa was all of those things to me. And we had beaten all the odds and found our way back to each other, and we were alive, and our lives were wonderful. There wasn't much else I could ask for.
"I love you, my Anna," she breathed into my hair before rolling over to prop herself up on her elbow and look at me. I mirrored the gesture, gazing into her eyes.
"Love you, too, Majesty. And I always will."
Elsa kissed me hard and long, and held me close for such a long time that time itself ceased to hold meaning. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill anniversary of being born, but I finally knew: what we had? Different-good. The best kind of different a princess could ask for.

Part 2
This is part 1.
Can you tell how tired I was getting by the end? This is life under meds, but given the other benefits (I think?), I’ll take it for now.
When I woke up the next morning, I had a whole lot I was thinking about and it’s stuff I want to say given I said a lot, but didn’t cover this stuff. I’m still happy with part 1, I think that’s just how I write, moving from subject to subject more or less organically and it does show me to more unstructured even if there is a vague plan for how I want the piece to go.
Anyway let’s get going.
As always, mild spoilers for well, everything. If you haven’t seen this stuff and are mildly interested in watching them then ah, you may have a lot of catching up to do. I don’t think I’ll drop any real hard spoilers for anything but you never know.
Ghost In The Shell is an Outsider story
There are whole stacks of lore you could dive into with Stand Alone Complex in particular, with Motoko having been in an aircraft accident and getting her first shell (cyber-body) at a very early age, what that means, the thing with Kuze (avoiding spoilers here), and the extended cast - not that Paz, Boma and even Ishikawa get a whole lot of time anyway - but it’s not really that important.
Looking at just Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 film, and even more-so his 2004 film Innocence (not really a sequel but usually regarded as such), the narratives cast the characters very much as Outsiders. In the first film, Section 9 is already at odds with the government in general and while it’s subtle, Aramaki as a department head is certainly different from his contemporaries, even if we don’t see much of it - again, so much more of this in Stand Alone Complex. Motoko’s early conversation with Togusa in the first film is probably the most telling as far as playing it loud. She speaks in pragmatic terms to why he’s there, but this is a precursor to what will ultimately transpire for herself at the conclusion of the film, something very intentionally written into the film. Batou is also an Outsider in more ways than one, not only in the role he plays in the department but in the very clear personal boundary between him and Motoko. There are boundaries between Batou and everyone and they become more apparent in the second film. Togusa is easy pickings so I’ll leave him alone, suffice to say if the film needs one, he’s the audience’s window of ignorance which is why he’s discarded so willingly half way in. He gets his time in the spotlight in Stand Alone Complex and it’s pretty amazing.
As for Motoko... I admit it is difficult separating my understanding of her character from Stand Alone Complex and attempting to just isolate what’s shown of her in the first film but I’ll try.
I mentioned the film’s centrepiece montage in my previous journal, in which we might say Motoko is the centrepiece but if so, she probably shares it with the city itself, and I feel much more is being said about the two together rather than separated simultaneously. This would be one of the first indications of Motoko’s sense of identity, of otherness, isolation, questioning. Again the scene that plays it most loud would be diving on the boat and her speech to Batou. There are other moments tho; single frames of her face, looks, movements that are lingered on, I feel like Oshii is constantly telling us about her and what she’s going to do, but more important than that, why she’s going to do it and how she feels.
Ghost in the Shell is a film about great emotion, and not like I’d know because it’s been a long time since I’ve looked into the discourse around it, but I suspect no-one really talks about it as a film about feelings.
I realise these days I talk more and more about moods and art being mood pieces. I labelled my Instagram account as being “A catalogue of moods” and I’m very fond of the use of the word in vernacular. It might seem flippant but it’s immensely empowered, especially for me as an individual when I understand my moods and can translate them into, via and thru art. I do appreciate many struggle with Oshii’s cinematic language as it can appear cold and detached and that’s fine, but it’s anything but for me - it’s immensely emotionally charged, it just appears differently to what audiences are perhaps accustomed to seeing. It’s a different language that perhaps takes time to learn, but it’s all there.
This couldn’t become more evident than in Innocence (the Ghost in the Shell 2 moniker I think was a western addendum). Batou takes centre stage and is immediately presented as bluntly as possible as an Outsider, reaffirmed later by Aramaki who also cements Togusa’s position in limbo.
I should pause and say that within the GitS canon, I feel Togusa is definitely embraced by Section 9, so he’s not wholly an Outsider to the department, but for obvious reasons, he doesn’t fully share all of their daily or philosophical concerns - hence not wholly. He would also definitely be an Outsider to most other members of the force after joining Section 9, but unfortunately I’m not here to love Togusa, poor guy - I feel like he’s always a bit unloved. Someone write a giant essay in service to his greatness. He actually is great.
But I adore Batou in Innocence. I love his story, his struggle, his emotion. I love how present Motoko is without ever appearing on screen and then when she does, the impact she has on everything, especially with the lines she delivers, one of which I quoted to open the last journal. Batou is in many ways a shadow of what Motoko was and is/has become, just in physical form, mirroring her in a real world manifestation with the natural physical limitations that comes with.
For some reason I feel like I need to inject a comment about Batou putting the jacket/vest on Motoko’s body. I don’t know if people perceive this as an act of masculine modesty but it’s not how I read it. I did stumble on this action for years but as I began to interpret the films as Outsider stories, I realised that he does this as an act of inclusion, and that Motoko consents, permits him to and doesn’t immediately react with violence or technological recourse we know she is well capable of, indicates it’s mutual. Their inclusion isn’t just about the boundaries of the Section 9 department but extends beyond that, an inner circle that may only contain the two of them - inside which there are still boundaries between them Batou can never cross. Those boundaries become infinitely more apparent after the final events of the first film, and the second film effectively is all about how he feels about them. He is an ultimate Outsider, but so is Motoko in the state she now is in.
Section 9 is a department of stray dogs. Individuals who haven’t quite fit in where they belong, and found belonging with one another. Then, after a time, one of them moves on - at the conclusion of the first film, and then another feels an almost permanent and ultimate sense of separation - more or less the duration of the second film.
Ghost in the Shell isn’t about technology and sentience and hacking and corporations at all. It’s about loneliness and belonging and acceptance and affection. It’s about how that feels.
I’m Not Sure Why People Struggle With David Lynch Films
I need to stop talking about anime. Honestly I looked at the list at the start of the last journal and thought hell yea Sky Crawlers, Jin-Roh, Haibane Renmei and Lain let’s unpack some shit! but honestly I’ll run out of time and I should really draw from a variety of mediums and sources.
OK I’m not being facetious when I say Lynch’s films are fairly straight-forward narrative-wise. Again, it’s hard for me to position myself in a place where I’m not into the stuff I’m into and maybe that’s what gives me the cinematic language familiarity to parse them but that just sounds like wanker bullshit to me. I don’t mind if folks don’t like Lynch films, that’s fine. But they aren’t difficult.
So in the context of everything else, even on that short list on the last journal, plus how I keep trying to shift the discussion of works from the pragmatic reading of them to an emotional reading of them from a mood perspective, I feel as tho the same process can be applied to Lynch. So much about his films are about how they make you feel, or I’ll say - how they make *me* feel. It might be grandiose to assume I’m feeling the correct emotion, that these are the moods that David Lynch himself is attempting to create and evoke and thus, I am interpreting them correctly but hey - I enjoy the hell out of the films, feel I understand them and watch them over and over again so that’s all I’m basing it on.
That’s not to say there are things I dismiss as meaningless or that I don’t understand in his films, it’s just that I don’t have to parse them immediately at first watch and perhaps that’s the audience’s problem. I don’t know if reverse-diagnosis is appropriate but looking at how much hand-holding there is in other directors’ films might be just as telling. I mean I saw Nolan’s Tenet and was about the least confusing thing I’d ever seen in my life but apparently *that* confused people, and you know hey that’s fair I guess, but I mean Nolan did a whooooole lot of audience hand-holding in that film, I mean, the dialogue was terrible. There was so much unnecessary exposition, which I generally find in all of his films, so if an audience can’t follow that then OK sure, Lynch is going to be a problem.
The thing is popcorn cinema is totally OK. I watch it. I really love it, I’ve written about it before, it’s good Industry. There’s a lot of great creativity in popular cinema, I don’t at all think poorly of it and I love seeing a really well produced, Hollywood picture... but I guess if that’s all you consume, and I guess if folks’ short-format episodic media (aka series - think Netflix, HVO etc.) is more or less to the same standard, then it begins to make sense that anything outside of that isn’t going to make sense.
Long story short - Lynch films tell simple stories where the feeling of the film is as important as the narrative of the film. To understand the story, you have to understand the feeling, and vice-versa.
Surprise surprise, it turns out independent and deemed “fringe” film-makers... aka Outsiders... make films about Outsiders.
Now I wouldn’t know if any of the Marvel films thematically are about Outsiders or Outsider culture, they probably are and very loudly at that, but the reason I’ve never included one in my catalogue of moods is they all read the same way. Not only are Marvel films mostly indistinct from one other to me, they’re also mostly indistinct from much of popular culture in general. That doesn’t make them bad, some of them still have some pretty awesome stunts, visfx, even parts of the narratives, funny jokes etc. in them, but on the whole they’re not useful to me as things I deem truly valuable in the long-term.
It’s OK, I’m not at all going to lament the proliferation of Marvel films, a lot of them have been pretty cool and they keep people in work. Meow meow meow “the death of cinema” mate, sure - I find it more difficult to find the sorts of films I like but that’s always been the case. Humans will do what they do, it’s not a read on cinema, it’s about being an Outsider and what that’s all about. True, maybe weird shit like Lynch and Noe might be more difficult to make, but the weird-indie corner was also dominated by white men and that needs to change, so who knows what the future holds.
Can you detect the point at which I took my meds and started getting tired?
Ghost in the Shell // Innocence // What We Want // What We’re Left With
Growing up as an Outsider, I feel as tho the first Ghost in the Shell film carries the weight of isolation, questions of identity and belonging, ultimately of acceptance, empowerment and liberation. Then Innocence brings to bear very similar moods but states that things may not necessarily change for the better, they simply change state. I love that in both narratives, the main texts of hacking or corrupt corporations, crime etc. are the least common denominators and barely relevant to heart of the films. I think about the theme of icons in Innocence, icons operatively being the dolls throughout the film, and the final image of Togusa’s daughter’s gift. As humans we assume we’re to take the position of biological humanity as representative of sentience, taking moral priority over all other beings. Earlier in the film we think Togusa is in limbo, but at the conclusion Motoko asks the question, or perhaps states that perhaps we’re all in limbo together.
I think that’s a significant part of what growing up as and being an Outsider is like, what it feels like. Christians have this saying about “living in the world but not of the world” (derived from a bible verse) and honestly I don’t think they know what it means because they just operate like a cult, but I think queers and folks with long term mental health conditions have a better idea. We are pushed out to the fringes of our social groups from an early age, long before we know or understand what’s different about us. Our peers and the adults around us do this to us because their social behaviours are so well hard-coded, even they may not even know precisely what’s different about us, they just do - and they’re right. We are different. And they don’t accept us.
Maybe I am starting to get a little more upset that weird/different art is becoming more difficult to fund and make, because it’s for us, for me. It speaks to me. You already have so much, and representation and inclusion is so important. I don’t just need queer cinema, I need weird cinema, I need moods. I need quiet, introspective, pensive, reflective, Outsider moods.
I still feel like an Outsider. I have a few people who understand more about me, but I don’t think I have a place, not in a real sense. I have never felt that. Art is one of the few places I feel any connection with anything, and connecting with people is a very odd thing to consider - honestly, I actually would really like to connect with people but the unique combination of being queer *and* autistic comorbid with bipolar makes it really tough, more difficult the older I get. And now all you want to do is fund Marvel movies. I can’t feed off of that.
I’m getting tired, I’m not making any sense. It’s time for bed.

Artemis Fowl’s hideous movie: A firey review
Today I’ve decided to see the nefandous movie known as “Artemis Fowl”, just because my aim is to completely destroy that movie as that movie destroyed the book series. Caution for there will be spoiler from both books and movie. You can read my first impressions from the trailer here, and I can say that they did not change.
First thing: Disney decided to “unite” the first two books from the Artemis Fowl’s series in one movie, which is not a good idea at the core, but they failed completely, not only because of the alteration of the plot that such a cut requires, but also because the movie fails as a stand-alone, since it ends without the defeat of the villain, thus opening for a sequel, BUT IF YOU NEED A SEQUEL YOU COULD HAVE DONE ONE MOVIE FOR THE FIRST BOOK AND ONE FOR THE SECOND AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
So now I’ll list the pro and the cons of the movie.
Pro (very few):
The Ireland is as always wonderful, I longed to see the green shores, visually it didn’t disappoint at that point. Fowl’s Manor was also ok, I liked the setting, less the colours of the building.
The graphic was actually great, I loved the representation of the LEP technology and the City of Haven. In general, all the movie was a pleasure for the eyes and a knife in the heart and brain for the story.
I actually didn’t mind the cast, since the beginning. I had no problem with a black Butler, or Juliet, and to me Holly didn’t seem too young, actually she was as I imagined her. Female Root didn’t bother me, because the change of sex didn’t affect the character, so kudos to that. The actors also I think they did a good job; the problem is the writing for some of them as I’ll show later.
I was so happy to see Foaly, I was really scared that they would have cut him. We’ve seen him very little, but he didn’t seem OOC.
The Haven part was okayish? I mean the plot of the LEP instability was from the second book and it was mixed with the Mulch-Holly encounter which was from the first book. The whole scene in the end kinda works, and it is one of the two watchable scenes of the movie.
The launch from E7 with the lava vamp was very impressive, I really liked it.
The kidnapping scene until the beginning of the Fowl Manor scene when Holly wakes up was actually good, can we pretend it’s the only scene from the movie?
The battle with the troll at the Manor was also okay, a little bit different from the book but not too much except for one thing: Artemis that shoots and jumps, and he doesn’t fail doing that. That character is not Artemis Fowl II, not in a million years. In the later books Artemis is forced to move a little to save his life, but he remains unable to perform notable physical task, he’s at best as able as us couch potatoes.
End of pros of the movie, total watchable time: ten minutes at most.
Cons (very long list)
The movie has problems since the beginning, the first scene is the abduction of Artemis Fowl I, so it seems okay, but then we see THE HUMANS ARRESTING MULCH DIGGUMS. That is NOT possible, the existence of the People is concealed and it remains concealed, if Mulch is arrested, half of the premise of the series, the reason why the LEP acts in the first, the third and the fifth book (which is stopping mud people from learning that fairies exist) is cancelled. I understand that they wanted to preserve the narration technique from the books, which is that the author is Artemis’s biographer, but it doesn’t work this way. Mulch can work as a narrator, but you can’t have him narrating it to humans. In later books, there’s a character who would’ve worked very good as the role of the listener, and is Dr. Argon, who works in a clinic in Haven, and he actually has this role in the last book.
Since the beginning the entire movie revolves around the search of this “Aculos”, which is the source of People’s magic. This thing doesn’t exist in the books, but the real problem is how it is used in the movie. It works as a deus-ex-machina at the end to resolve the father’s abduction, because they finished the time screen, but they still had to save him. So no mission on the Artic, no learning to become a team, just magical teletransport (which doesn’t exist but ok).
Artemis in the first scene is surfing. Book description of Artemis Fowl II: “Riding was the only form of exercise that Artemis had taken to. This was mainly because the horse did most of the work.” He’s also described as having “two left feet”, he is not the perfect specimen of humanity, he is the greatest genius that isn’t able to jump a rope.
The scene with the psychiatric seemed great (ignoring the reference listed in the following point), but it was completely ruined at the end: Artemis would’ve never stormed off that way, he is not a normal teenager, he is practically an adult in a teen body. He’s controlled, he doesn’t externalize emotion to people, he controls them perfectly and is capable of acting and disguise his true character if necessary, and he’s able to play the emotions of the people he has in front.
Angeline Fowl is dead in the movie. That completely cancels the reason that triggers Artemis’s redemption. At the end of the first book he gives back half of the gold obtained by the people for his mother’s health, and in this book his family is pretty much the only thing he cares about besides his goal. Until the fourth book almost all his good actions are triggered by guilty conscience, caused by thinking of what his mother would’ve wished he would be. Angeline is the first positive force in Artemis’s life, and her worsened health is one of the reasons that we see such an evil Artemis in the first book.
The worst part of the movie is the fact that Artemis Fowl Senior knows about the People and works to protect them. Oh boy, I cannot even begin to list how much every word of that sentence is wrong. First: the Fowls were never protector, only criminals (yeah in the movie we are told they are, but they are justified by their motives, in the books they are criminals who care only for themselves). Second: Artemis Fowl discovers the Fairy People all by himself, it is the first time that the readers understands how clever he is, Artemis begins from zero (or only with the tales and legends) and he discovers the existence of the People, he manages to have a Book and have it copied, he decodes it and learns the language and the rules and exploits them for his plans. The Artemis in the movie doesn’t do that, he has everything already prepared by his father (to the point that I actually was led to believe that Book! Artemis was the father, but not such luck unfortunately). He is not a genius, he’s a normal teenager. I repeat: THAT. CHARACTER. IS. NOT. ARTEMIS. I will call him Orion from now on, since calling him Artemis is an insult.
Mulch mentions Butler’s name. OH. MY. GOD. His name is SECRET! Only his family and his dojo master know it, and he reveals it to Artemis in the third book because he’s in a death-or-live situation. There is no way that Mulch knows his name.
Artemis Fowl Senior was not abducted by Fairies, it was the Russian Mafia. People don’t usually mess with humans, it’s Artemis II that goes and start the interaction by kidnapping Holly.
Opal Koboi (who doesn’t even appear in the first book) is revealed to be the villain almost at the end of the second book, in a twist similar to the Bellweather’s one in Zootopia. Revealing it at the beginning takes away the twist.
After the call, Orion doesn’t deduce anything about the kidnapper and makes no plan, which Book! Artemis would’ve never done, but we are in front of his dumber twin soo…
Why put the plot that Mulch is a giant dwarf? He is not so much taller than other dwarfs in the books, I don’t see the point of this plotline.
Another invented plotline: Holly’s father. Holly has a parent who died heroically but it’s her mother, and she died because of mud people. This, in the books, is another reason why Holly doesn’t trust Artemis the early books, but in the movie is the reason why Holly trusts him, because their fathers worked together, exactly the opposite. At the end of the book, Holly relates to Artemis’s pain of having an ill parent, but it is pity, not trust.
Again, Orion does nothing but follow instructions, ok, let’s move on.
Juliet is too young; also, why did they make her Butler’s niece instead of his sister I don’t know.
This point deserves a standalone post, however I will start mentioning it here: I’m Italian, I’m fed up with the stereotypical representation of my country. It’s racist Disney, stop it.
Because of the Book’s rules Fairies cannot enter in a human building without permission. If they do, they feel ill, vomit and on the long run they might lose their magic. In the movie Orion invites Holly in the Manor but she was not affected by the rule at all. Also, this is the reason why the LEP recruited Mulch, he entered in so many human houses to steal things that he lost his magic, so that rule doesn’t apply to him anymore.
I only noticed when it happened that Orion changed in a suit after half of the movie. Artemis had to be forced to wear jeans from his mother.
The scene where Butler defends the Manor is also in the books but here Orion fights, I mean he’s not Artemis, who would have observed from a window
Why Opal claim to act for the People? Opal doesn’t care at all about the others, she just wants the powers for herself.
Why are Orion and Holly bonding? It’s too soon, they literally have no reason to trust each other at this point. Also of course Orion is so stupid that Holly manages to make him take off his sunglasses, he’s lucky that she was not book! Holly, because she would’ve knocked him down.
Mulch enters the Manor and tries to open a safe, and Orion declares that’s “exactly what he wanted”. Since I still hoped that that character was Artemis, I thought that either the safe was a test to prove Mulch’s ability before recruiting him or a trap. No, instead it was the fact that Orion isn’t able to open a safe inside his own house. How am I supposed to believe that this person is a criminal mastermind? He’s just a normal heroish-movie teenager.
Holly isn’t able to heal Butler just to create drama, also the almost death scene is supposed to be in the third book.
Artemis’s mastermind plan to overcome the People technology: not present
At the end they are all friends, even if they actually needed four books for that.
As I said before the magical resolution that they use to save the father does not work. There is no tension, no scene, no action for something that it was constructed at the beginning of the movie. The reason of everything is resolved in a magical PUFF.
Now that I see him more Artemis Fowl Senior is too kind and invested in his son since the beginning. He is supposed to be rigid in his education until he’s saved (one of the reasons why Artemis is also so stern).
They changed everything but they cut some of the best scenes: the beginning in Ho Chi Minh, Mulch that knocks out Butler, Holly’s escapade…
Artic mission (and therefore the evolution of characters that happens there which is a lot): not present
Goblin’s riot (and the plan to put out Opal Koboi): not present
This movie has the characters named after the ones in the books, it has the setting and the technology, but it has nothing to do with Artemis Fowl II’s history. They did the absolute worst they could have done plot wise, firstly because Orion says that he’s a criminal mastermind but he’s not even clever and the only criminal act that he does is the kidnapping (but we know from the beginning that it’s for the good of his father and the world, where in the books we discover later that he wants to save his father). As I already said the beauty of this series is that it shows Artemis redemption, from villain to hero, it’s a long road and it’s done gradually.
Second: if you want to make a stand-alone movie of Artemis Fowl, you could just adapt the first book. Opal is of course the most important and interesting villain of the series, but each book works also as a standalone itself. Even without a sequel, ending the movie with the victory of Artemis against the People works well.
If you did want to adapt the first two book in one movie, there was only one way to do it well, and it’s Zootopia. Really that movie is a more faithful adaption of the first two books.
In the end they only managed to make a movie without not only a good plot, but also an ending. As I said at the beginning, the movie ends with Opal still on the loose, so congratulations: you achieved nothing at all.

Inuyasha Sequel: a rant
Put this up this earlier on a post I re-blogged, tried to edit a part or two where I didn’t like the way I had phrased it, and ended up messing up the whole format I wrote this in. Luckily I wrote this as a draft earlier anyways! So I did a some fixing and now I’m just copy-pasting it again and making it a text post instead. This will be very long and a little nit-picky but I wanted to make a post ever since I heard about the upcoming sequel to Inuyasha, Hanyō no Yashahime. I did put a TLDR at the end for those who don’t want to read everything. Not sure how many people in the fandom still follow me and will see this, as it's been a long time since I was actually active in the fandom, but it's hands-down both my favorite manga and anime of all time and I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately so I had to post something. Before reading this be sure to read all of the translated character bios for Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha so that this makes sense.
When I first heard that Inuyasha would be getting a sequel I was excited! But after reading up on it, to be completely honest I'm not feeling this sequel anymore. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but hear me out. Firstly, it seems like Rumiko is mostly involved in the character design aspect and the writing is up to Katsuyuki Sumisawa. The music will be produced by Kaoru Wada which is great! And from what I’ve seen and read online a number of others who worked on the original series will reunite so hopefully the story will go well. However, knowing Rumiko isn't personally writing and not knowing how much input she has or will give makes me unsure about watching. The original Inuyasha anime followed and was based off of the events in the manga, and there was no manga prior to this for it to be based on. Depending on what happens this could be an alright sequel or a total miss. Unfortunately sequels in general are known to be disappointing in some way.
Secondly, if I hear anything about Rin being the mother of Sesshomaru's twin daughters I'm out. This part will be a SUPER long and in depth explanation on why I think this way, feel free to skip if you're not interested. Please don't come for me on this, I'm here to explain my thoughts and feelings on the sequel and the theories around it so far, not start an argument. I'm more than aware that there's plenty of controversy out there on this pairing and personally I do not support it. I never saw their relationship as more than a friendship, or something akin to child and guardian as Sesshomaru and Jaken are basically Rin's caretakers up until she goes to live in the village with Kaede. He definitely cares for her deeply but I can't see it in a romantic way, being that Sesshomaru isn't even a character focused on romance to begin with. He learns compassion through Rin's second death but that doesn't mean he loves her romantically. As a reminder his main goal is to seek power and be powerful, and it's stated that he needed to learn compassion and grief in order to mature. It's what helped him learn to wield the Tenseiga at its full potential. In addition, she was really young when they first met and still was when she went to live with Kaede. The idea of Sesshomaru (an adult) having romantic feelings for a kid under ten years old (around eleven at the end of the series, and still a literal child in all ways) and waiting for her to age with the intention of marrying her sits totally wrong with me. Age wise I realize that Inuyasha is decades older than Kagome and that his father was much older than his mother, Izayoi, as well. The difference here is that Kagome was a teen when she met Inuyasha (who not just physically, but more importantly mentally was also a teen) and clearly Izayoi was old enough to conceive Inuyasha and give birth. As far as the audio dramas (more specifically "Asatte") go they're generally considered as an outtake reel and are essentially parodies, or a form of satire. Some will debate on this but realistically there’s plenty of reasons this is true, and those who take the time to properly check them out understand that. For me I've always had a headcanon that at some point in her teen years Rin would inevitably develop a one-sided crush on Sesshomaru and that he would ultimately set boundaries and reject her, seeing her as more of a close companion than a love interest and wanting her to live with someone she can grow old with. He gave her the choice to follow him and it's most likely that she would, but I think that once she began aging he would want her to have somewhere to settle, given that he enjoys roaming and seeking out other powerful beings to battle. It's strange to me that they decided to give Sesshomaru hanyō/half-demon children in general but based on the artwork we've seen it's fair to guess that they might have made Sesshomaru and Rin a pairing in this sequel.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I want to clarify that if you ship them together I'm not writing this here because I want to hate on your ship for no reason, or in order to create an argument on if the pairing makes sense, these are my thoughts and opinions on the matter and I’m voicing them because it’s what I believe. I already know that somebody won’t like this and will take it personally. People usually say that once Rin is an adult the pairing is acceptable but I disagree. I find it quite creepy that someone would think it would be alright for an adult to wait around for a kid to grow up with the intention to marry and/or sleep with them. Watching from a distance is the same exact thing, after making an impression on the child... let’s not normalize this. In this situation it would be grooming. We all have our own opinions when it comes to our ships and fandoms and I try to respect that but I can’t get behind this one.
Next we have the apparent lack of parental figures for the heroines. Where are the original Inuyasha characters at? Moroha's character bio says she barely knows her parents (Inuyasha and Kagome, our former main protagonists) and has been alone since she was young! It makes me think either something has happened to them or some kind of bizarre event separated them. And sorry, not related, but why does she transform by PUTTING LIPSTICK ON?? That part threw me for a loop.
When it comes to Setsuna and Towa their parents are absent too. I find it difficult to believe that Sesshomaru wouldn't keep track of his children given how he treats Rin and reacts to her going missing in any capacity. Especially if he happened to be fond of whoever their mother is. One daughter works as a taijiya/demon slayer for Kohaku and the other mysteriously transports to Kagome's era and is raised by Sota (I thought we had finished with the time jumps when the well closed but apparently not. When the Bone Eater's Well closed after Kagome's return it gave a sense of finality and closure to the story, and showed that Kagome had chosen where she was most happy and felt she belonged. I think that bringing the theme of time travel back into the sequel makes it feel repetitive, like something right out of a predictable fanfic. Props to Sota for taking in and raising a child who showed up out of nowhere though).
Another thing that came to mind when I read these character bios was why Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter and Sesshomaru's daughters are the exact same age. Of course there's nothing wrong with that. It only struck me as odd because suddenly everyone is having kids at the same time. And so far there's no mention of other characters like Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Jaken, Kaede, or Miroku or Sango's three children or where they are. One might expect that a story focused on the children of some of the original Inuyasha's main characters would feature appearances from those who had important roles in the previous series and their children. Which brings me around to wondering what made twin daughters a trend? Two sets of twin girls is a unique choice (Sango and Miroku's twin daughters. For such a small group of parental characters, what are the odds of two sets of twin girls? Where is the creativity and again why the repetition?).
Lastly, Sesshomaru's daughters lack some of the common yōkai/demon characteristics we see on Inuyasha and other characters. Their ears are human, and they have no markings or otherwise (that I noticed) with the exception of Setsuna's mokomoko/fur which is similar to Sesshomaru's. So perhaps they take more after their human mother? Given that Inuyasha seemed to inherit strong genes from his father it's interesting that they did not. Their ages also interest me as they appear to age the same way as humans do. Yōkai/demons are known to have a longer lifespan than humans and appear to slow down or almost stop aging at some point. Perhaps this confirms that the slowdown in aging occurs once they reach the equivalent of a human teen?
Overall Inuyasha was a fantastic manga and great anime on its own, and I never got the feeling that it needed a sequel. As a stand-alone it was everything it needed to be. I thoroughly enjoyed both formats of the original, though I do have a tendency to disregard certain parts of the anime. I always preferred the manga more when the anime dragged out certain scenes (Shichinintai/Band of Seven arc for example) or straight-up excluded, changed, and added others. Taking that into consideration the sequel might end up being the same for me in that way, but rather than one scene that plays out for too long or an excluded, altered, or unnecessary added scene, if it’s not any good I’ll simply disregard it altogether. When the anime comes out I certainly plan to try watching it out of loyalty to the fandom, and due to the fact that it's "technically" canon (without Rumiko being the writer I don't necessarily consider it canon, much like how some folks do or do not consider the movies canon) but I get the feeling that I'll wind up giving up on it in disappointment.
TLDR; Overall I'm left questioning if the sequel is worth watching (for me) given what I've read and heard so far, but nonetheless I will give it an optimistic try! I'm currently wondering how much we'll see of the original Inuyasha characters, if we get to find out what happened to them, if the number one pairing I'm not fond of will make an appearance (and cause me to drop the whole thing), and questioning parts of the character backstories and designs (why is there a repetitive and recurring theme of time travel and does it end up hindering or ruining the story, why do the protagonists all lack parents, and why do the hanyō/half-demon characters lack common yōkai/demon traits and does it make them more human than demon?).
