No, there is no universal trans experience. Yes, there will always be trans dudes who have it easier than you, or were lucky enough to get their gender affirming care younger or cheaper or easier than you. They're still trans. I don’t think allo people understand: you get everyone else. Almost every single fictional character is allo. Every character that exists is allo until proven aro/ace/aroace. So on that rare occasion when we actually get representation, and when it’s genuinely good representation, please just let us have it. Many allo people are respectful, and I thank them for that, but it’s impossible to ignore the massive problem in fandom culture of downplaying the importance of, or even downright erasing, an aro/ace/aroace characters’ identities. Aro characters are shipped all the time, which is fine if you understand the nuances of the identity and see that it is a complex thing to be aromantic, but I see a lot of people who don’t, and think that they can say ‘oh but aro people can date’ as an excuse to ship a character. This happens with ace characters too, they are sexualised in fandom all the time (I’m not talking about any characters specifically, but I’ll tag a few who come to mind). Again, this is understandable if you understand, but if you are sexualising an asexual character just because you find them hot or just for the sake of it, surely you understand why we are upset. This is not me trying to pick a fight, I’m just an aroace who is frustrated. 

You guys get everyone else. Just let us have the few who we see ourselves in.

i think people should be more vocal about intersexism, actually, even if they're perisex. especially if they're perisex, actually.

to perisex trans people, they really only see "discrimination based on someone's assigned sex or expected gender" as a transphobia thing. it's not. because the idea that someone should have one immutable "typical" sex, either male or female, that corresponds with gender roles, expectations, and likenesses is also the foundation upon which intersexism is built.

sex is a complicated subject, and i don't know how much i don't know about it. but what i do know is that it's deeper than just "male and female, penis and vagina, sperm and eggs, XY and XX" that a lot of people tend to push or subconsciously adopt. yes, even within the trans community. as trans people, we should be well aware of not only the complexities of gender, but of sex as well.

the reality is, many of the things we as a community say "never happens" (i.e. forcibly transitioning children with hormones, surgeries, etc. against their will) does happen to intersex kids for no other reason than cosmetics and "making them look Normal".

a lot of intersex people are not cis. a lot of intersex people experience gender dysphoria. so many resources about intersex people, so many people talking about intersex people, only gloss over them, pay them lip service, use them to talk about unrelated issues, or straight up treat them as diseased, disordered people to be cured. hell, even the second source I cited uses the term "disorders of sexual development".

this would be unfathomable if it were happening to any other group, but somehow this rage does not carry over for intersex people. and i think it should carry over, actually.

this is only scratching the surface. hell, this is barely even that.

all i ask of you is to keep your ears and eyes open to intersex experiences, especially when you're discussing sex and gender. keep your language as open and inclusive as possible.

“it’s not fair” seems to be a theme of the season especially in how the people around the bad kids don’t seem to realize that it’s not fair for them either.

cassandra doesn’t realize it’s not fair to kristen that she’s a teenager with a life and other responsibilities who is the sole being keeping a god alive.

the rat grinders don’t realize that it’s not fair that they get to xp level with critters while the bad kids have to save the world. they don’t take into account how each of them have died before and/or watched their best friends die while coming extremely close to death. the bad kids have experienced so much pain and exhaustion and they don’t even get the special treatment that the rat grinders have accused them of.

porter straight up ignores how gorgug is going to struggle with a 400% courseload because he took a hit to his pride. he sees a student so passionate that he’s willing to do four years of school in one and doesn’t think to cut him a little bit of slack.

it’s not fair that adaine grew up with shitty parents and now has to work eight hours a day to pay for her equipment in exchange for getting rid of them. it’s not fair that kristen has to dedicate everything to a god at 16 years old when she has so much else she needs and wants to do. it’s not fair that gorgug has taken on a 400% courseload because of porter’s pride. it’s not fair that fig is cursed to be unlucky and has something going on that she doesn’t understand at all. it’s not fair that he has to work so much harder to get into college and has to manage his entire party because they aren’t as passionate about school as he is. it’s not fair that fabian was abandoned by his mother and is so, so goddamn lonely or that he had to kill his father.

and while everyone else is whining about how unfair everything is (except for cassandra who is valid in her concerns), the bad kids have taken everything in stride. they don’t complain to anyone even though they absolutely have the right to, not even each other.

adaine refused to tell her dad about the things she needed, despite the fact that he would have helped, and got a job. kristen takes the blame for hurting cassandra and keeps dropping the ball because she can’t handle everything and feels so guilty. gorgug took the courseload because he’s so passionate about the things he wants to do and is trying his goddamn best to keep up with it. fig hasn’t talked to anyone about her confusing situation until it caused major problems because she was going to suffer it in silence. riz plasters on a smile and takes everything that he can get in hopes of it impressing schools. fabian hints to his friends that he wants people at his house but never confides in them or questions his parents even though they both had so many issues.

it’s especially not fair that none of them feel like they’re allowed to say it’s not fair. that they take everything in stride until they will someday break down.
