I just realized why lestat marked Tom, like the big stupid idiot I am
(I know everyone else probably already figured this out, but this is MY blog and I get to post whatever deranged thought crosses my pea brained mind.)
When I watched that scene in episode 5 where they're at the bar talking to Tom, I was confused as to why exactly. Why does Lestat mark Tom? If he's marked to kill, why does he wait almost 2 decades later? Well I realized, as all realizations come, in the shower.
Lestat has been planning on killing Tom the whole time.
(Warning before you click read more, this post is a lot longer than I first intended holy fuck)
Well not the whole time. Just right when Louis realized that Anderson and Fenwick had screwed him over. Maybe even longer if he knew it was a trick ("ridiculous of you to mix human and vampire business it always ends poorly"). Notice how he's upset with louis when he kills the guy who's microaggressive with him, cus lestat wasn't there (even if he was there I have my doubts Lestat would understand microaggressions, but he would have definitely killed him for touching Louis.) But tells Louis he's proud of him for killing Alderman. I think this has to be because he witnessed the disrespect first hand. He didn't give a fuck about the money, what he DID care about was that those two disrespected not only him, but Louis.
Even with Lestats little understanding of race relations of the time in America, he did understand hierarchys. He's from 1700s France for God's sake. It's no coincidence wanted to be king of mardi gras. Lestat came to New Orleans and saw himself as the king, even if no one knew it. And he wanted Louis to be his queen. Honestly I could make an entire other post about how Lestat almost literally saw himself as if he was a King and Louis his beloved Queen, which is why he thought it was okay for him to sleep with other women (mistresses and playthings of the king should mean nothing compared to the queen in lestats eyes) but that's getting off topic. I only bring that up because I'm trying to paint a picture of how I think Lestat sees disrespect done to Louis. To him that goes beyond disrespect or rudeness, it's irreverence.
You begin to notice if you watch scenes with them together. Because while I wouldn't say lestat is good at controlling his anger, he's definitely great at concealing it until it erupts (props to Sam Reid have to be given here) lestat is always on the verge of fury when talking to Tom. It starts as a distaste then as he begins to fall more in love with Louis and become more protective of him, his anger builds. Claudia was wrong about one thing, it was no petty slight that was the reason Lestat killed Tom first, it was a loooonng time coming.
I could list every detail I think supports this but I'm sure you get the gist by now. My main point is really the layer of complexity this adds to not only the story, the characters, but also lestat and louis' relationship. Consider it for a second, Lestat saw all his violence as justified, everything he did one can see it through the lense of him punishing the disrespectful (take a shot every time I say disrespect in this post jesus christ). "I bring death to those deserving" indeed. Lestat has a god complex out the wazoo, and every attack, torture, and death he caused was righteous to him and thus enjoyable. Louis on the other hand didn't see himself so highly. He may seem confident but if you look through the cracks it's apparent Louis's self worth in near nonexistent and he's horribly insecure. I think lestat thought when Louis was made a vampire he would see himself as Lestat saw himself, and as Lestat saw Louis. But again, another post for another time.
Despite Louis' insecurities (or perhaps because of them) louis revels in the violence lestat commits for his sake. That's probably why louis is so quick to forgive lestat about the priests. For a brief moment Lestat truly said the truth to Louis and Louis could forgive him because of it. As lestat says, he doesn't kill the priests to intimidate Louis, nor does he do it just because he enjoys it. He does it because he sees them as humiliating Louis, charlatans that don't deserve Louis' sorrow. Louis didn't want the priest's to die, but he could understand why lestat killed them, simply because for once in his goddamn life lestat told the truth, and louis loved that truth. That truth being that lestat killed and mutilated and committed such horrors not just because he liked it, but because he did it out of a fucked up sense of protection. Him killing the priests was essentially a knight killing a dragon to earn the princess' hand in marriage.
The worst part is that Lestat doesn't even realize it. Not fully anyway. Let's be honest with ourselves, lestat doesn't understand Louis. Obviously there's the race, background, culture differences that lestat doesn't understand nor seems inclined to try, but there are better posts about that made by smarter people than moi. I'm mostly talking about lestat doesn't understand louis' mind itself (louis' mind in a vacuum I suppose you could say) he understands Louis' desire for violence sure, but he doesn't understand the core of that want. Honestly I'm on the fence of if he ever understood that Louis loved it when lestat was protective in the first place. I guess it can be dumbed down to Louis wants Lestat to kill to protect Louis and to protect the family (and anyone who deeply disrepects them), lestat perhaps understood a little at one point, but since he sees everyone as a threat and everything is a slight to him, he has no trouble and qualms with delighting in the torture of people Louis views as innocent. Louis' heart is a bit dark, but ultimately human, so he's disgusted by lestats violence towards the undeserving. Lestat can no longer read Louis' mind and even if he could, Louis doesn't quite understand the difference himself (that's why he tries to hunt for criminals briefly) so the cracks of miscommunication starts to form, and neither of them even realize there is miscommunication.
Therein lies the importance of Tom Anderson for season 1. Not much of a character, more of a plot device in human skin. Claudia can see that Lestat hates him, but doesn't understand why, nor does she care to get to the depths of that. (*Mr house voice* understandable) I think it's notable that Louis rarely brought him up, he didn't understand the depths of lestats love. Nor did he know about Lestats 3 decade long grudge, all because Tom disrespected Louis.
Now I'm not excusing Lestat's actions, I just think it's interesting how this one throwaway character reveals a whole level of complexity to the relationship between him and Louis, and better sheds light on not only Lestats personal philosophy but louis' as well. Even Claudia to a degree.
Anyway, uh. End of essay. Bye.

EDIT, because idiots apparently want to reply with their BS and make up their own ideas of this post defending Anne Rice, Sam Reid, and the FICTIONAL character Lestat because they are "white":
I'm pointing out facts. Claudia was based off her 5 year old daughter that died of Leukemia. Louis represented herself and her grief during that period. Lestat initially represented her husband, until later when Lestat became who Anne wanted to be (and I'm sure she didn't want to be a cheater and an abuser). Her tragedies are what created The Vampire Chronicles and these wonderful nuanced characters, and this tv show would not exist without her. SO YEAH, NONE of what the show changed represents Anne or her vision. I'm also pointing out that it is NOT OKAY to take your shit out on a real life person, an ACTOR (Sam, again), who has NOTHING to do with the creative choices, or otherwise, being made. But sure, read into it what you want 🙄 Again, if you don't like the FACTS, BLOCK ME.
---
EDIT 2: JESUS CHRIST. I just saw a post comparing Sam Reid's award nomination to that piece of shits presidential win (you know who, I'm not giving it a name). Are y'all fucking serious??? And I thought I couldn't hate this new fandom even more. Also, NEWS FLASH: Even if the show decided to keep everything and everyone canon, Lestat IS and HAS ALWAYS BEEN the LEAD of THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES. It had NOTHING to do with racism or with Lestat being "white" in the books because pretty much ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS WERE CANONICALLY WHITE--even LOUIS, CLAUDIA, AND ARMAND. That was my point in my orginal post that someone tried to twist. It was ALWAYS planned by Rollins, or whatever his name is, for Lestat to eventually lead the show/seasons as Lestat DOES IN THE BOOK SERIES. It was ALWAYS about Lestat because Anne Rice was Lestat. Yes, Louis took a back seat in the books, but it had NOTHING to do with RACISM. Louis represented a dark time in her life and that is WHY she originally planned to leave him behind, and I'm so glad that she decided against it and that book Loustat got their happy ending. STOP using your BS about LOUIS BEING PUT ON THE "BACK BURNER" FOR THE "WHITE MAN". Dang, it's so exhausting and draining explaining to the simple folk that love to tear down my beloved childhood books and characters that brought them their damn tv show.
---
Damn, I really hate this new fandom and the Interview with the Vampire tv show for ruining Anne Rice's vision. Because of all these changes to the characters, storylines, and the timelines, certain characters (Lestat) and certain actors (Sam Reid) are getting shitted on because of these changes. Freindly reminder to all the newbies and show-only fans: pretty much all the book CANON main characters are WHITE. Even this new fandoms precious Louis, Claudia, and Armand. The damn show kept Lestat white and made him a cheater and an abuser, and that's where the shit show all started. Sam Reid has been dealing with this bullshit when it is not his fault in how the damn disrespectful writers and show runners decided to take the show, and who the damn award shows decide to nominate. PLEASE BLOCK ME IF YOU CAN'T SEPERATE FICTION FROM REALITY. If you feel the need to bash an ACTOR (Sam) who has shown nothing but kindness to this fandom when it is not returned or deserved. You sick fucks must be real proud of yourselves knowing you fuck with his mental health based on a fictional show (as Sam stated he could not sleep after seeing god knows what online). PLEASE BLOCK ME, YOU'RE DOING ME A HUGE FAVOR AND SAVING ME A LOT OF TIME. Thanks 🖕😊

for @iwtvfanevents... a good number of my favorites have already been recommended, just adding to that list.
an exploration of claudia's feelings after louis takes back lestat:
"You take the pieces of a man and help him put himself together. Then he bring the fire back into the house and dreams of himself as ashes. and I’m just there to choke on the smoke. again. "
a fun(ny) role-play between louis and jonah:
"You might wanna restrain me, officer. I’ve been a bad, bad boy."
lestat cares for a pregnant louis:
".... carried like a bride over the threshold. He hid his face there, safe against Lestat’s throat, and Lestat smiled at him, ghosting a kiss across his temple. He carried Louis through the interior door and into their bedroom, laying him carefully across the satin bedding."
louis' finding through integral memories:
"Ain't nothing wrong with you, child... And if there is, it's not in God's will to heal it today."
louis and jonah:
"Louis had grown accustomed to this thing they shared. He settled in the comfort of having and being with Jonah when they were able. It had become a sacred secret and a constant he relied on... he removed all the secret parts of him he allowed himself to be for the past few years with each article of clothing and prepared himself to be someone else when morning came."
all up in armand:
He looked into Armand’s mind, and all he had experienced doing so earlier was multiplied infinite times. He was in a hall of mirrors, watching his own mind being observed in the mind of another, an almost overwhelming whirl of sensations, both physically and mentally. He had never felt closer to another person, even when stripped naked and entirely vulnerable in the arms of his former lovers. He tried momentarily to catalogue it all, to capture just a snapshot of the impression it left upon him, but he found it impossible to think of anything else. He was in utter rapture.
louis goes back in time:
"Louis descended the staircase making his way down into the living room and took in the familiar wallpaper, the couch he had helped Lestat pick out. He walked further into the room and picked up one of his beloved books that Lestat had gifted him early into their relationship."
antoinette will be much agreeable to our life together:
"However long it would take for Louis to unlearn her manipulations, realize how she’d selfishly urged him to murder his true love, appreciate their new surroundings and fresh possibilities, and finally become grateful for Lestat divesting them of that little viper, Lestat could wait."
trauma, introspection and love:
"The first time he did it, he didn’t know that love could be falsified. That it could be caustic. He didn’t know that the love of his life could the reason he lost himself. But he knew it this time and yet he did it again like an idiot because he liked them too much to be rational"
what have we done to each other:
"It took a while for Louis to realize that everything he had built was crumbling and it’s place was a wide necrotic chasm consuming him and his family."
love, care and support:
"Growing up, he always felt like the blood family he was raised with would be around for every moment in his life and witness him having a family of his own."

My Ranking of Anne Rice's Books
Full disclosure: My ranking is totally not based on the quality of AR's writing (which I absolutely love); it's just reflecting my own personal preferences for certain characters, plots, and themes. Some of her books I deliberately chose not to read; while some I only read once and didn't care for them, hence their low rank on my list. (I saw the Feast of All Saints movie but never read the book.)
S Tier: The Witching Hour, The Vampire Armand, Taltos, The Wolf Gift, The Wolves of Midwinter, Blood Communion
A Tier: Cry to Heaven, Servant of the Bones, Blackwood Farm, Prince Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Memnoch the Devil
B Tier: Realms of Atlantis, The Vampire Lestat, Lasher
C Tier: Blood & Gold, Interview with the Vampire, The Mummy
D Tier: Blood Canticle, Tale of the Body Thief, Merrick, Angel Time, Of Love and Evil, Pandora, Vittorio, Violin
(I used the tier template here as my base.)
MY THOUGHTS (I tried not to spoil anything):
S Tier: Spectacular!
13/10 The Witching Hour
My favorite Anne Rice book. The plot was utterly insane. The buildup surrounding the mystery of The 13, and the Door, and what exactly Lasher was and what he wanted was SO good. I thought Rowan was a effing idiot, but I LOVED seeing Michael slowly realize what his purpose was, in the face of this loooong tragic history about the "eunuch" Mayfair husbands. Julien Mayfair is really the GOAT! I was on the edge of my seat; it's a legitimately scary ghost story! IMO Lasher is AR's best villain, cuz he's so awful. (I'm waiting for Season 1 of AMC's Mayfair Witches to finish before I watch it--I'm already bummed from the changes I heard about. [EDIT] I watched it, and it's trash. 🤦)
10/10 The Vampire Armand
I am HELLA biased. TVA was one of the very first AR books I read in full, and I was hooked. Marius/Armand are my favorite vampire ship, leave me alone--the Renaissance was a different time; read a book. Armand and Lestat are my fave vamps, cuz they're both fabulous and crazy. But I empathized with Armand more, because he was so YOUNG. I saw the IWTV movie before I read TVA, and was so shocked that he was just a kid! (Antonio Banderas was fiiiiine AF though!) I was fascinated by Marius since TVL, and getting to see him in his natural habitat was such a treat, as he tried to deal with his feelings for his beloved black-winged angel/demon Amadeo. Plus we got to learn A LOT about the Children of Satan/Darkness, and it was SO effed up what happened with M/A & Santino.
10/10 Taltos
This is the payoff I was waiting for after The Witching Hour. I could care less about Lasher--ASHLAR was precisely the type of Taltos I wanted to know more about. I loved getting his perspective on all the Celtic lore about the Picts and Stonehenge, and the dwarves, etc--it was so mythological; I love it. And the whole icky background about the Talamasca, and the lengths they went through to get the Taltos together...dang. SUCH a good story. 10/10.
10/10 The Wolf Gift & The Wolves of Midwinter
These two are tied--the WoMW sequel flows perfectly from TWG, and I never read one without reading the other immediately after. AR is famous for her vampires, but IMO her werewolves are her very best immortals. They're just really well-adjusted to immortality, and are a big happy wholesome family, the way the rest of her immortal species are NOT. Like, there are very few setbacks to being an AR werewolf, compared to other types of supernatural--especially if you have Margon and the Goldings looking after you (Stuart, you lucky bum!). I want to live at Nideck Point, throwing holiday festivals and carousing with the woodland creatures. I guess kinda like WoMW slightly more, because it continues following the pack as they settle in together, but TWG sets up AR's werewolf universe so perfectly that it gives it that slight edge.
10/10 Blood Communion
I hate that AR was so nasty to fanfic authors and scared a lot of the fandom away, cuz all I want is 500k+ on The Chateau Era, as the vampires live together being fancy and lavish and finally getting their ish together. Blood Communion only gave me a taste of that, cuz it was so dang short (the illustrations were such a cute touch!). But my favorite part was definitely when Armand flipped the eff out over Marius--I was like YES! FINALLY!!!! ^0^ I was so tired of this will they/won't they thing that had stretched out between M/A ever since QoTD, and I just wanted them to come clean about how they REALLY felt. Plus, I was glad/relieved that Louis & Lestat finally ironed everything out; I felt really bad for them, for once! I just wanted more, but I kinda felt Blood Communion was likely where AR was gonna end everything, and TBF it was a really good stopping point.
A Tier: Awesome!
9.5/10 Cry to Heaven
Who knew reading about castrati could be HOT!? This book made me cry--the title was apt! Guido is one of my favorite AR characters; I felt so bad for him!!! Tonio reminds me a lot of Armand, but...I felt worse for Armand? Like, yeah, being castrated sucks, but Tonio got to have this amazing career, and the book ends on a high note--LOL! But Armand was literally psychologically tortured for 300+ years and never really recovers--he gets Trinity Gate & Night Island & his coven, but he's clearly unhinged and maladjusted. I just felt that Tonio was lucky to have a support system in Guido & his patrons, and Armand was decidedly more unlucky, and hence more tragic? Whatever--this was a really good book, even without any supernatural elements.
9.5 Servant of the Bones
I looooooove this book~! I'm a sucker for mythology and world religions and immortality and all of it--this was SO GOOD. If supernatural creatures were real, I legit think AR might be on to something--you can't tell me SOMEONE didn't do human sacrifices like that, trying to make their own "genie" or whatever. VERY Solomon's Ring. And I love how AR threw in all these historical events & characters--making deals with the "devil." It was so creepy; yet thoroughly tragic, as usual with this woman. I just wish we got a bit more clarification on what exactly Azriel was--cuz there's NO WAY he's an angel/djinn/demon, if everything that happened in Memnoch & Angel Time was legit. Is he just an incredibly powerful GHOST, like Lasher??? 🤷 (Azriel would beat the dog snot out of Lasher in a fight, IMO. He's just way more experienced.)
9.5 Blackwood Farm
I LOVE AR's ghost stories. Between Amel, Lasher, Azriel, and Goblin, I pitied Goblin the most. He's VERY similar to Amel, but because of the way he was created, and how he had to exist, I just really felt for him and just wanted to give him a HUG--my poor baby! :( I enjoyed seeing Lestat in a domestic sphere, with the grandma tryna adopt this whole vampire living under her roof, cuz the Blackwoods are like: meh, what's another spook; we're used to weird shenanigans in this family. XD And Mona Mayfair--she won me over here, cuz I did NOT like her around Michael & Rowan; get friends your own age, brat. I'm mad at what AR did with Merrick Mayfair though, like really???
9.5 Prince Lestat
AMEL. O_O I was already fascinated by whatever Amel was when Maharet gave her backstory in QoTD, but once AR started fleshing (LOL!) him out in the Prince Lestat trilogy I was like yaaaaaaaas~! I need DETAILS! As much as I like the other VC books, I really enjoy reading QoTD and PL back to back, cuz it's just a natural continuation of what happened to ALL the vampires afterwards. And it's effed up. Lestat's one bold soul, cuz I would NEVER.
9/10 Queen of the Damned
The hype was real! Maharet's lovely, but Mekare's the GOAT. I was TOTALLY on board with Akasha's plan though, NGL. But you could tell that she was crazy, too. However, getting Amel's perspective in the later books, and seeing what happened with Rhoshamandes, I sympathize with Akasha even more, cuz how much of that was REALLY her???? But yeah, she had to go. (I cannot wait to see who AMC casts--no one can beat Aaliyah's performance, but I want to see them at least try to prove me wrong.) However, the build up to the concert and facing Akasha was a bit too drawn out for my liking (I could care less about Tough Cookie and Killer and all the random AF auxiliary vampires that showed up at Armand's, or the compound. And I DO NOT like Devil's Minion--I love Armand to pieces, but Daniel was INSANE, and vampirism ALMOST turned him into another Nicky, which I was NOT feeling).
8.5/10 Memnoch the Devil
Dante's Inferno meets Dracula. I like this book. But it was confusing, because I was like what was the point? I would've tried WAY harder to keep Lestat in Hell, if I was serious about making THE Devil's Minion. I felt like MtD was an elaborate excuse for AR to bench Lestat, so she could focus on Armand & Marius & Louis for a few books. Like, we know Lestat's trash, but dang--just leaving him on the floor like that? XD And Memnoch's even more mysterious than Azriel in SotB, cuz what is he really? He was able to psychologically torture Lestat in that church from...another dimension?? WHERE was Lestat's eyeball REALLY? Were they LEGIT demons? Like...? Cuz I had the same questions about Louis in Merrick, like, was what he was seeing REAL? We know powerful vampires like Armand can use the Mind Gift to create whole worlds in people's heads. So who knows what actually happened to Lestat.
B Tier: Bravo!
8/10 Realms of Atlantis
I like the alien plot--SUE ME. It's weird AF, and I don't really like what happened to Amel (I'm undecided about trusting that he's redeemable and if he can be excused for being a literal MENACE), but I enjoyed getting those final answers. In TVA Armand said he saw a city of glass when he turned, and I nearly jumped out of my seat when I read RoA, cuz it tracks! And the alien parasites made sense. Look at what happens when regular HUMAN ghosts gained autonomy in AR's books. Look at GOBLIN in BwF. Look at Memnoch even--whatever he is [EDIT: I'm not buying AR's weak AF retcon that he's a ghost Replimoid, cuz then what was Angel Time for?]. Of course a whole extraterrestrial species would have drastic consequences on humans.
8/10 The Vampire Lestat
A must-read for context and mining information, but TVL's never been a book I ever go back to just cuz I want to reread it for funsies. But I enjoyed it WAY more than IWTV, mostly cuz the tone was drastically different.
8/10 Lasher
Anne Boleyn. Really? XD And folks wanna complain about aliens? XD I was not here for Lasher--let the devil speak and tell his story blah blah blah. I was with Michael the whole time, just counting down to when Lasher would stfu already so we could get back to business. There was NOTHING Lasher could say to make me care. Regardless of what he was when he was alive, in death he was thoroughly EVIL. Lasher's a very interesting parallel with Lestat, who was also very religious and wanted to be a priest and was physically & prematurely ripped from his home and from his life. And yes, vampires are mass murderers, and Lestat likely killed way more people than Lasher. And they're both totally selfish; parasites feeding off the living. But it's the METHOD that bothers me with Lasher. Vampires killing just to drink blood is one thing. But Lasher RUINED that family--it was SICK, the things he did to the Mayfairs--both in the past, and present. He DELIBERATELY drove people crazy and abused people for sport and strategically hunted the "eunuch" husbands and turned women into his sex toys, and god knows what he was up to with Julien--and for WHAT??? Lasher was NOTHING like St. Ashlar, and it shows. Bye, Felicia.
C Tier: Can't Love It
7/10 Blood & Gold
I was so hyped for Blood and Gold, cuz Santino was just a PLAGUE upon these poor vampires! I got a lot of answers that I really wanted after TVA, but I understand why some people hate Marius, cuz really my guy?????? It really is his way or the highway. I still love Marius, but my opinion of him definitely dropped quite a few notches--I was PISSED at him just like Armand was, all the way up to Blood Communion.
7/10 Interview with the Vampire
Groundbreaking, iconic, never done before, etc etc. But IWTV is one of my least favorite AR books. I honestly think she just got better as she kept writing. But also the tone of IWTV, and especially Louis as a character just never appealed to me. Louis never had a personality other than bitterness, like…. I just couldn't relate to him at all, like what are you complaining about???? If you hate being a vampire so dang much, END IT. Lestat honestly impressed me (Armand's patience was impressive too!), cuz I'd've been GONE, and left Louis to his own devices; eff how pretty he is. The movie--as fun and awesome as it is--definitely didn't improve my opinion of Louis; he was even more mopey, wtf! (AMC's IWTV handled Louis BRILLIANTLY, and went a LONG way endearing me to Louis, where I absolutely LOVE him now--protect Louis at all costs!)
6/10 The Mummy
This was REALLY good, until it wasn't. I got similar vibes with SotB, as ancient civilizations grappled with magic and immortality and the divine and the dead/undead--my bread and butter. But Ramses just reads as way more naive and clumsy than Azriel. It got tiresome, seeing Ramses scramble to fix all the mistakes he kept making, like omg dude--LEARN. And what was the purpose of that girl? Whatever her name was. Like...yawn. And then Cleopatra.... 🤦 Why is she so evil? Is it just the brain damage? What a walking disaster--and Ramses was AGAIN at fault! I couldn't take anymore, it got frustrating.
D Tier: Didn't Care
4/10 Blood Canticle
This book was DEPRESSING. First of all, I honestly don't understand why Lestat was even there? Just let Quinn & Mona & Rowan & Michael deal with it--a drug/gun cartel? REALLY? Morrigan! Ashlar was one thing, but come on, REALLY?? I was so bummed! Then Rowan had the NERVE--! I was disgusted. I never liked her, but even the scraps of empathy I felt for her EVAPORATED. Poor Michael! :(
4/10 Tale of the Body Thief
I was squicked out. There was nothing appealing about this situation. If he was in his OWN body, like if Dr. Fareed could "cure" vampirism, that would be one thing, but this was just...no. And poor David! I liked Mojo though?
4/10 Merrick
God, spare me. I never liked Louis in the books, so this was just one long psychological torture experience I wasn't feeling. Especially since I couldn't really be sure if the ghost was legit when I first read it. But having read so much more of AR's ghost stories, I'm more convinced now that it was the genuine ghost that had it out for Louis, which is awful, cuz that really puts into perspective what was going on in NOLA vs Europe/Paris. So, I feel bad for him--but the most interesting part was getting Lestat's reaction.
3/10 Angel Time
I barely remember what this book was about. It was a murder mystery in a hotel near a church in Cali somewhere and an angel selects some assassin because....? IIRC he went back in time and infiltrated a pogrom or something disguised as a monk? And.... I...don't remember.
-/10 Of Love and Evil
I own it, but literally don't even remember what this was about.
3/10 Pandora
I could care less about Pandora/Lydia/whatever her name was. I do not like this woman. I get that she's bitter about Marius ditching her, but omg. Stop. You don't see Bianca complaining; get over it already. There was something about bees and the Talamasca and Pandora being worshipped and....something.
-/10 Vittorio
I own it, but I literally don't even remember what this was about.
-/10 Violin
This was an impulse buy. I was so hyped at first, cuz I thought this was gonna be about Nicky and Lestat. Then I actually read the summary, and was immediately like wtf. But I gave it a go cuz there's wibbly wobbly timey wimey ghost stuff going on, but.... Nah.
Thanks for reading!

I love how in the midst of this tale of tragedy, Louis takes the time to point out how he has better fashion sense than Lestat. "Claudia was my beloved daughter, I loved her unconditionally. Also, Lestat tried to argue about this skirt I bought her and I shut that idiot down immediately."

thinking about Lestat in episode 3 'this should be our anniversary' scene and the episode 5 'It’s easy to get carried away when you’re young and in love' scene. Lestat being all irreverent and playful in tone at the start. Lestat's humour falling away in the scenes as he realises it's being met with disapproval.
Lestat just being so removed from everyday humanity that between Louis's and Claudia's minds being closed to him and his own disconnect that he's doing irrevocable damage to his own relationships through his inability to read the damn room
#gifs of both scenes were on my dash and now i can't stop thinking about them#interview with the vampire#lestat my (beloved) idiot

“I now understand why Elizabeth refused you. You really are the most boring, ordinary, unremarkable person there could ever be. It would make sense for a beautiful woman like her to prefer a man of adventure over worthless naval scum like you. I only turned you out of pity and now I’m starting to seriously regret that choice.” He felt bloody tears brimming in his eyes but he forced himself not to cry just yet. “Let me repeat myself once more so I can get it through you thick, idiotic skull. I. DONT. LOVE. YOU. I could NEVER love you. Not now, not ever. That is where my heart stands. You mean absolutely nothing to me and you never have.”
—————————
Lestat jolted awake from yet another nightmare, his head throbbing from the painful dream. 300 years... it had been 300 years since the last time he spoke to his beloved James Norrington. 300 years since he’d been forced to give him up to Armand in exchange for Louis’s freedom. Lestat could barely take the pain anymore. He was so desperate to relieve his heartbreak that he considered Releasing James once and for all just so he could stop being tormented by the last words he ever said to him. However, he knew that Releasing James would mean he’d never feel his beloved again. He’d never know if James was alive or dead ever again.... and that was a fate worse than death.
Letting out a heavy sigh, Lestat pulled himself together to prepare for the concert that night. He and Stacee were all set for another powerful concert, since music was his only solace anymore. Stacee could tell Lestat was depressed as they prepared, watching how Lestat tuned his violin in an even more depressed manner than usual. But of course, like always, the depression vanished the moment they went on stage.
The power of rock n roll brought Lestat back to himself, giving him the strength to be the man he once was. He proved his power through his voice and his violin, rocking his undead heart out for the entire concert.
But then he heard it.
After the concert was over, he heard a voice... one he thought was long gone. A gorgeous deep baritone voice with a timbre that ran a chill down his spine. He literally dropped the bottle of tru blood in his hand the second he heard it, causing one of their roadies to exclaim in surprise. Lestat, however, didn’t hear him.
His focus was solely on James Norrington.
Lestat followed the man out into a back alley behind the concert venue, watching as Armand left on his own hunt. The second James was alone, Lestat stepped out of the shadows from behind him.
“This feels rather familiar, Monsieur... except I’m the one following you this time...” He said, his voice cracking with emotion.

I know this is a silly funny meme but I was a big anne rice girlie growing up so now I am thinking way to hard about this. Also I haven't actually gotten past the first season bc I don't have the streaming services rn but I hope I've seen enough spoilers to make my point.
Guillermo seems to have drawn the same conclusion the interviewer boy (listen that's the only title I remember him having I don't think he was ever named but he was played by Christian Slater in the movie) did in the film but moreover from the book. I just. I think it's so neat!!!! (Also my poor beloved Louis is so, so tired. He tried but by god.)
Louis's whole interview boiled down to "immortality and vampirism SUCKS dude pun not intended it's just bad. I'm telling you so you can warn others AVOID vampirism and immortality." And the interviewer just heard about and witnessed all the cool and homoerotic stuff Louis and other vampires did and was like "dude I GOTTA be a part of that."
And for the record, at the end of the book, it states that once Louis left, the interviewer looked back at the tape, found the last know address of Lestat, and went off the hunt him down to become a vampire.
Guillermo, my sweet little fucking idiot, as far as I can tell, is doing the exact same thing.
(Louis would probably gonna cry his eyes out if he realized just how many people wanted at some point to be a vampire after hearing his interview.)
watching season 5 has me thinking Guillermo didn't consider the consequences of becoming a vampire enough
#to be fair antonio was amazing in that movie i adore him#what we do in the shadows#wwdits#guillermo de la cruz#wwdits season 5#wwdits spoilers#interview with the vampire

Hello love, I’d love to request vampire prompt 13 with Ivar, if that’s alright? Thank you and have fun writing 💕
WARNINGS: Mention of Disliking ‘Twillight’ (it isn’t me, it is just what I think Ivar would think about it), just Vampire! Ivar.
“I’m cold because I’m dead. Figuratively and literally”
“I thought that you had overcome the depressed era, Edward Cullen” you muttered as you raised up to grab another blanket for yourself, meanwhile your vampire boyfriend huffed out annoyedly at your favorite nickname for him.
He preferred to be called Lestat, which you reserved for whenever he was a drama queen (which did happen a lot more than you might think), since it was ‘a better piece of literature’ than ‘Twillight’.
And you weren’t even allowed to call him Erik, after the beautiful blonde vampire of the show ‘True Blood’, although they were both Vikings vampires, having been turned long ago, enough for them both to be cocky assholes.
And fucking gorgeous.
“… don’t complain, babe, I told you to grab a blanket”.
In his defense he had actually, but you had ignored his warning since you had just thought bout how wonderful it’d be to cuddle close to your beloved fanged-boyfriend, just for him to completely surprise you with a cold cold chest.
You’d have to change his ringtone to ‘Cold-hearted’.
“… I am not complaining, I am making fun of you” you retorted, knowing that you were annoying him and secretly hoping that the teasing would get him to ‘warm up’ in some ways, but as you settled back, after you had wrapped yourself in a burrito of blankets.
“I was a king in the past” he muttered with a solemn tone that made you cackle, completely disrupting his ‘royal discourse’ “… and now I am belittled by a human that has less than a small particle of my age”.
“… I am your girlfriend” you shot back, gently turning the face of your gruff vampire, his eyes revealing his nature, profoundly electric of an azure that had hit you like a punch in the stomach when you had bumped into him in a desperate run to the grocery store, after your period had started suddenly and you had no pads at home.
And you were desperately craving chocolate.
You had been annoyed by Ivar’s reaction, as he moved away from you with a lightning speed, something that should have already made you think that he was a vampire, but back then you had been just too pissed to notice.
You hadn’t thought nothing till that the stranger had appeared again in your life.
But you had found him right in front of your door.
You had been scared at first, but the man had gruffly explained that you had dropped something from your grocery bags, and it had taken you a few minutes to realize what he truly meant, because you had been caught staring in his beautiful blue eyes.
And then you had realized that you had dropped both your chocolate and a pack of pads.
You had blushed and thanked him as he simply left you muttering that he thought you’d need it, something that got your cheeks to darken since you wondered what he truly meant with his words till it hit you that you knew that, somehow, you were bleeding from down there.
You had then found him again in the grocery store shop, mostly wandering and picking up what looked like cheap wine, and eventually you had ended up drinking it from the expensive glasses that looked like they belonged to another era, at his house.
Ivar, himself, belonged to another one.
You had soon found out.
And you hadn’t let him live it down.
At first you had used the humor as a coping mechanism, because you were a bit terrified by the creature that Ivar was deep down, because you had soon realized how easily he could have overpowered you, not solely for his own strength but for his years of experience.
You hadn’t also known how to ask the most dangerous of questions, but eventually Ivar had answered them all by himself (although you had to say that with his telepathy you weren’t sure it was simply ‘intuit’).
He had explained that through all the years he had been a vampire, he had learned how to hold back his thirst, mostly depending on bags of blood he and his family were allowed to monthly, since apparently they owned multiple medical center for the sole purpose of collecting blood for themselves.
And he had proved you this when you had accidentally nicked a small leg meanwhile shaving and Ivar, who was waiting for you to get ready, had actually bandaged your cut, showing you much more care than anybody in your life.
Completely unbothered by blood.
His medical knowledge certainly helping him.
‘I was a physician not too long ago’ he had muttered back then, delving a soft kiss to your wounded leg ‘… and then I became a lawyer’.
‘You are the dream of every mother!’ you had shot back, as you gently cradled his face closer, threading your fingers through his hair.
‘… more like the nightmare’.
From then on it had been an easy road for you both, although sometimes you thought about the fact that you’d be old and grey and he’d be at the same age you had met him.
Something that made you realize that after all ‘Bella Swann wasn’t such an idiot.
“Warm enough, girlfriend?” he muttered as he gently set you against his chest, gently putting his chin above your head, meanwhile his arms brought you closer, and then with one last graze to your neck, he grabbed the remote, to switch on the TV “… now, can we watch a movie in peace?”.
But much to his chagrin the first few words he heard from the TV were:
‘How long have you been seventeen?’.
And with a smirk from you, he knew he was thoroughly fucked.
“Oh, c’mon, you could learn a few tips about being a ‘glittering vampire’!”.

five facts for new muses: gabrielle
a nonbinary lesbian with wholly masc leanings born centuries before the identities were properly named. doesn’t give a good god damn about pronouns, and i might reflect this in threads, and encourage my partners to follow their muse’s vibe on gabrielle to follow the trend. their past relationship with a man was purely based on societal expectation to marry and produce children, and as a mortal they never delved their sexuality beyond revenge fantasies of openly cuckolding the marquis with half the village. it was only after being brought into the blood that they could identify and react to their true feelings for the fairer sex.
they give precious little fucks about the hierarchy or undertakings of wider vampire society. unless they have to come rescue their idiot son from his own stupidity, don’t drag them into it. even if it does involve their son, don’t drag them into it. they won’t come when called, only when he actually needs them, and in their own sweet time. they have always been this kind of parent to lestat, pushing him aside when things are fine and coming to rescue and soothe him the moment he is in over his head.
anne has boomer issues in her texts. we all know that. the whole idea of gabrielle as a white person going to africa to be worshiped is some really unfortunate caucasity, and oddly a theme anne revisits with david and the whole glorifying the great white hunter archetype. so we’re going to cut all that bullshit bc i as a white person am not touching it with a ten foot pole. gabrielle just wanted to be alone in what they perceived as a place largely untouched by the western power structures that restricted them the whole of their mortal life. they avoided locals and did their best not to be discovered abroad. they were just trying to vibe somewhere the world they knew cannot find them.
keeps up with whatever the vernacular/hot new slang is in any given generation. for a hermit, they do cling to certain habits from their mortal life, and this includes consumption of media. literature remains their preferred poison, but they have delved into visual and auditory media as it evolved with the centuries. see my joking but am i really post about their misusing slang just to fuck with younger/internet savvy bloodsuckers for an example of their meme knowledge. they’re st ill super well spoken but they just pepper it with phrasing that makes one realize they have an understanding of the modern world beyond what most give them credit for.
they are well aware their son has a memoir. every time he tries to shove it at them, knowing their dear mother has not read it, they calmly intone ‘suddenly, i have no concept of literacy’ and lob it over their shoulder. when their son’s work is concerned they are suddenly jared, 19. and nothing he can do can stop this. if he ever really wants to show his ass they’ll turn to his dearly beloved and discuss his memoirs with candor.

Hang on a minute I'm a fic writer I can literally write this myself uhh little oneshot under the cut I guess or on AO3 here.
February, 1975:
"What is this, beloved?"
Armand steps into the room to find Daniel sitting at the little wooden dining table. He has his tape recorder set out in front of him and is already settled into one of the hardback chairs. There is a pack of cigarettes as well, the first one lit and hanging from the corner of his mouth. His eyes light up as he spots Armand.
Daniel merely nods over to the chair opposite him, clearly wanting Armand to take the other seat. "Humour me, yeah?" He says, keeping his cards close to his chest for now.
Armand is immediately suspicious, his eyes narrowing as he looks back towards the tape recorder. Ever since he'd seen the results of Louis interview he'd sworn never to give one of his own, an argument that he'd had with Daniel on more than one occasion during their romance.
"It's not an interview." Daniel sighs, flicking some ash into a little circular tray. "Not as such."
Sometimes you'd think that it was Daniel who was the mindreader, not him. Still, he's curious now, so he sits down, one long leg folded over the other and hands curled neatly into his lap.
"If it's not an interview, then what is it?" Armand pointedly asks.
Daniel shrugs, looking bashful now as he averts his eyes. "Just me asking you a few questions, that's all."
Armand tuts. "So it is an interview."
He leans forward and plucks the cigarette from between Daniel's lips, bringing it to his own and inhaling deeply. The nicotine doesn't do anything for him, but the simple motion is soothing. A familiar ritual.
"Well, sure, technically." Daniel rushes to explain himself, gesturing with his hands as he does so. "But it's not about past stuff, I know you don't like talking about that. But what about other things? Things that you do like talking about?"
Armand frowns, passes the cigarette back to Daniel. Their fingers brush, warm against cold.
"I do not understand. What do you want me to talk about if not my past?" He asks, tilting his head slightly to one side, as if the new perspective will help him in spotting Daniel's angle.
Daniel snorts. "You're not your past, Armand." He casually dismisses.
"Then who am I?" He presses, fully aware that it's not the first time that he's asked someone that he loves that very question.
Daniel is silent for a moment. He props his hand on his chin and just looks at Armand. Then he smiles, leans back, and flicks some more ash into the tray.
"You're you, man. An immortal idiot who has a bunch of really weird hobbies like, I don't know, dismantling every blender or alarm clock that he comes across. Who wants to go to the opera one night and then watch a kids movie the next. You're someone who buys designer clothing when you and I both know that your favourite thing to wear is my ratty old sweater with the holes in it. That's who you are, and frankly, it's fucking fascinating. You're fascinating."
Armand doesn't need to breath. What is air and oxygen when you're already dead? Regardless, he feels his chest ache and his heart stutter and he sucks in a gasp that he doesn't technically need.
Daniel thinks that he's fascinating? To Marius he had been a pretty object to paint, to Lestat he was a fleeting fancy, and to Louis he was... well, it was complicated these days, but he still felt the sting from when he had called him boring.
"So where do you want to start?" He was briefly aware of Daniel talking to him still. "How about the blenders? You were doing some experimenting, right? Before you started taking them apart?"
"I- yes." Armand finds his voice again, somehow. "But are you sure that you want to listen to me talk about something so trivial? Won't it be boring for you, beloved?"
Now it's Daniel who is frowning. He'd started to put a tape into the little machine but now he pauses to look up in concern.
"No? Why would it be boring?" He replies. "Not only is it the perspective of a 500 year old vampire on modern day inventions, but it's also something that you're passionate about. And fuck, I just love listening to you talk, boss. Everything you say has some greater meaning behind it, you know? Like you pick out every single word that you say carefully."
Armand smiles now, truly smiles. He reaches for the packet of cigarettes and takes one for himself. He might as well get comfortable if they're going to end up being here for a while.
"I love you, Daniel."
His beloved boy blinks, blushes, and ducks his head. How he so adores seeing him flustered. Armand lights his cigarette with a simple thought and nods back at the recording device as he settles into his chair.
"Start the tape."
What if Daniel was to call Armand the fascinating one? Armand, after having been abandoned time and time again, literally called boring by Louis, and then finding out that Daniel (some random human picked up in a bar) was able to hold Louis' attention and uncover his innermost secrets, what if he was to tell Armand that he thought him to be the fascinating one instead?
