So dc fanon is weird, blablablablabla, we all know this, but most of the fanon stuff at least makes some sense to me. Like Tim's weird coffee addiction? That stemmed from him drinking some energy drinks and off brand coke in canon. Jason's pit rage? The need to babygirlify him so they give him an easy out for his whole murder thing(plus I'm pretty sure at some point it was mentioned that someone could go crazy after MANY dips in the pit, but I don't remember where I read that so don't quote me), and Cass using asl is a misunderstanding of how reading body language works.

The one fanon trope I will never understand, however, is Stephanie's apparent waffle obsession. Where did this come from?? She has nothing to do with waffles. I remember her eating waffles at some point, and hey maybe even she said she liked them who knows?? But how does that justify waffles becoming a major part of her fanon personality????

I've seen Bruce eat a sandwhich before, but nobody calls him sandwhich obsessed. I'm pretty sure that Jason said he liked chili dogs at some point but nobody makes an ao3 tag about it. Why is Stephanie eating waffles different?? Was there a major plot point in which she fell in love with a waffle or something that I didn't read?? I wouldn't put it past dc writers to do that, but if the reasoning behind this is anything less than her marrying a damn waffle I plan on shooting somebody.

-> Killer. Like u said Anon, I think he IS the most likely candidate! I don't think that it's a meal he'd have eaten often, nor would he openly joke about it, but I think that somewhere like the Temple where he was raised, or on the streets after he left Chara (the Black Market wasn't picky-) would be where it happened.

-> Nim. Oh. Yeah. She would've, I'm sure. (Also tbf I have no idea if I said that or not, my memory is SO bad, I'd probably have to check w/ Ancha lol- but for this let's imagine she's not.) I don't think anyone would be able to convince her if she knew what it was up-front (she thinks humans are lesser, but kinda in the way ppl don't usually think of brown bears as a food source?) But she's definitely had it before. 'Exotic cuts' that she never bothered to fact check lmao. Fancy and expensive, so she bought them!

-> Dust. Now, this one is a little weird, but I have good reason! Dust has a reputation to uphold when he's a crime lord, and has to get along with leaders of other crime branches to keep his power AND keep the lines running. One of the other kingdoms (which I'm establishing is basically full of shape-shifters which eat human flesh) was a prime source of income for Dust because they had a LOT of animal meat they weren't harvesting. In meetings, well, sometimes the meal involved the dishes of that kingdom, so human flesh! (He will NOT admit it didn't taste bad.)

-> Fresh. And no, not for the reason he'd normally know lmao. I think that Fresh's connection with the beasts (which I now realize are kinda stand-ins for his furby collection-) leads some of then to bring him gifts! And he lives usually out in the wilderness so a hunt is a hunt, y'know? Monsters are off-limits but like. If the beast brings him *just* the meat? He takes his chances abd hopes it's not People. (Some of it is, and he knows it, he could definitely identify it if given to him 🙏)

-> Reaper. He's not proud of it anymore, but back in the day when he was the general? Bringer of Death? Yeah, he ate a guy once. Used it as a fear tactic against their enemies, which in his defense DID work. But he wouldn't do it again. He would recognize the taste tho!

Soooo..... 5 of the New Age characters would be able to describe the taste of human flesh! (At least for the main cast lol-)

-> Geno: Tried to do it "for science" when he was in the academy working on decay magic. (He reversed the decay enough that the flesh was fresh, he was curious!) He was told that if he did they'd suspend him, so he missed his opportunity :(

-> Cross: Can't tell you about the taste of flesh, but human blood used to get into his mouth all the time when he worked in his old kingdom, so he could tell you about that instead!

I think about how so many resources for dealing with a hoarder house situation online come from a perspective of hatred and frustration for the person(s) perpetuating the hoarder situation in the household, and I think to myself. Would perhaps people have better results by treating the hoarder with a modicum of respect and applying harm reduction strategies to the situation? Like with addiction?

The household we live in teeters in a weird spot where multiple rooms (living room, porch, back room, guest room, upstairs bathroom) are slowly being overtaken with storage boxes.

It's not a filled-to-the-brim hoarding situation yet, but if I'm not actively organizing and cautiously removing items, it came become a really frustrating environment to live in. Blocked closets, hallways you have to squeeze through, stuff like that.

Bu I've been trying to find resources for helping someone out of a hoarding mindset, and so much "advice" approaches the person having the mindset with distaste.

"The problem with hoarders is that they don't think it's a problem!"

That's usually because they see the hoarding as a solution to some other problem, like resource insecurity, or compensating for memory loss via keepsakes. Maybe we should take those fears seriously and help them dismantle it all on their own terms?

I've been thinking for a while that I might do like a series of posts spotlighting media and stuff which have slob scenes and stuff

Anyway I'm going to do it.

So, today I was working on the epilogue for Slob City and I was thinking about soft drinks because of the soft drink taps in the story. You may or may not know, but I do not drink soft drinks so I wondered what people actually think of Pepsi and Coke so I was looking it up on Reddit and saw someone quote a movie and I was like... this quote sounds interesting... and so I looked it up and found the movie and here it is, today's

Slob Spotlight: Idiocracy

The basic plot is an average guy gets put into suspended animation and gets woken up 500 years in the future (2505). In those 500 years, human intelligence has decreased dramatically (because smart people had less kids than stupid people) and society is in shambles. The average Joe (his name is in fact Joe) is now the smartest man in the world and is confused by this weird new society.

This film is probably the closest thing to Slob City I've ever seen.

Fair warning though: it has a lot of slurs in it. The slurs are never directed at characters who they would actually apply to and 99% of the time it's from characters who are probably not smart enough to realise they are slurs but the point still stands.

There's a moment early on which is the source of the quote I alluded to earlier which I'll let speak for itself:

Everyone drinks this 'Brawndo' which is some sort of sports drink. They even use it on crops. Corporations own the FDA etc so laws and recommendations have been changed to benefit them. Even smoking is more common.

Also they've got no idea about waste management and garbage is piled up everywhere.

And the TV channels and films are the dumbest things ever. Like the most popular film is called 'Ass' and it's just video of someone's bum for 90 minutes (plus some farting). And there's a whole channel called the Masturbation Network. On that note, the society is hypersexualised to the point Starbucks now sells sex.

The film ends with the main character becoming president after he saves them all from dying of famine by watering their crops with water again, and it's implied society will eventually fix itself since his kids are smarter than everyone else, but also the idiots are still reproducing like rabbits so who knows.

It's also not too bad a film. It's also kind of depressing to think how society is kind of drifting to this sort of thing (or it's hot if you want things to be like that. I'm sorry but I have said that in my normal life I'm not a slob and so I don't actually want the world to be like this but I mean if I were in the mood and really like dissociating myself from my real world concerns I could find it hot but when it strikes too close to home it just makes me kind of uncomfortable).
